My local walmarts had a really good selection of skylanders stuff today!

I have never seen the jumbo puzzle erasers before. There are three characters, Swarm, Crusher, and Tree Rex! They are pretty cool, they are $2.98 each.
They also had the dog tags and trading cards. Ranging in price from $1.98 to $2.98 each!
They also had a great selection of the characters in stock. They had numerous giants and the single pack hot dog, chill, hex, and series 2 wrecking ball. I haven’t seen very much at the local Walmart stores lately, until today!

I was out looking at cards and saw that the release of the next set of MTG, The Dragon’s Maze, is scheduled for May 3rd! I also noticed that it mentions at least one Mythic Rare land, and also talks about the re-release of some shock-lands from earlier in the block. Mythic Rare lands are always neat since they aren’t all that common a choice for that rarity, and I’m definitely looking forward to the release. I actually already have it pre-ordered for my business, as the prices rise dramatically right before the set releases. It also has a Ravnica-esque emblem:

And then the set symbol, a combination of the previous two:

I think it looks pretty sharp ^^ (kinda literally, that point on top looks like it might hurt…) All in all, I’ll be very happy come May!

Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful day!

I’ve created a monster. But a good monster. I don’t have kids so my only hope for passing on my love of sports cards goes to my nieces and nephews, or my best friends kids. For the longest time it looked like the end of the line..but there is a glimmer of light.

My nephew turned 9. He loves hockey. He discovered hockey cards. He discovered his Uncle’s hockey card collection. He left home with a “starter” box of about 3,000 various junk wax cards and a hope from me he would actually enjoy them. And to my joy he did!

I’m trying not to push him to hard, but I make sure whenever I see him I have something to trade and he has gone to the Card store in his hometown with his dad. They live in a small town so it was a small shop. This past weekend I took him to my favorite card store in Toronto. He was blown away. I figured I would just take a quick visit and maybe check for a few cards for The White Whale and he wanted to go through EVERYTHING on my want list. I had to explain to him that we would be there all day so we settled for spending an hour or so poking through the packs and boxes. Looking at the displays. The look on his face was priceless.

I asked him what he wanted to collect. He said “Same as you Uncle Trevor” which I had to admit was pretty cool. So I bought him a few packs of 12-13 OPC Hockey.

Little bastard held me hostage for a Black Rainbow I needed!

I have trained him too well.

4 More Black Rainbows

After being tired one night, I decided to hop onto Hulu to find something to watch, I saw Star Trek Original Series, I remember Star Trek when I was a kid, so I watched it.

I am now addicted to Star Trek, I was a star wars kid growing up, obsessed with Star Wars lore and games and movies, but that has changed.

Star Trek is probably the most funny and addicting show I have ever watched. I can’t wait to watch more later tonight.

On a side note, I feel like playing a Trading Card Game, but don’t know which one is good. I think I need to do more research…

Boros is a fun deck to play because you succeed by mobbing the enemy under in large waves of troops, and what isn’t fun about that?

“Boros Battalion” intro pack deck list
Creatures (25)
1 Armored Transport
1 Bomber Corps
1 Boros Elite
2 Canyon Minotaur
1 Court Street Denizen
2 Daring Skyjek
1 Ember Beast
1 Firefist Striker
1 Firemane Avenger
2 Fortress Cyclops
1 Foundry Champion
1 Ordruun Veteran
2 Skyknight Legionnaire
1 Sunhome Guildmage
2 Warclamp Mastiff
2 Warmind Infantry
3 Wojek Halberdiers
Other Spells (10)
1 Act of Treason
1 Aerial Maneuver
2 Arrows of Justice
2 Boros Keyrune
1 Mark for Death
1 Mugging
1 Righteous Charge
1 Shielded Passage
Land (25)
1 Boros Guildgate
12 Mountain
12 Plains

I used this deck personally, and I can’t emphasize enough the importance of Muster the Legions. It doesn’t come with the deck, but it makes 1 soldier each turn, for each turn it is out (1 soldier turn 1, 2 soldiers turn 2, etc.) This especially works with foundry champion, who deals damage based on how many creatures you control.

Spark Troopers, Wojek Halberdiers, Bomber Corps, and any other card with battalion on it is good for this deck, allowing them all to use their effects and leveling the opponents field.

Aurelia, the Warleader, and Aurelia’s Fury are both good cards for this deck, worthy mythic rares for their costs. Aurelia goes and gives you an extra attack phase for all of your creatures except her, and Aurelia’s Fury allows you to tap everything and get rid of your opponents spell casting ability, clearing the way for your troops.

Firemane Avenger is good, allowing you to deal 3 damage with battalion (3 Firemane Avengers would be fun >:D ).

All in all, a very nice deck, pretty decent straight out of the box….

Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Stairs slugged 265 career home runs and holds the all-time MLB record with 23 as a pinch-hitter. Phillies’ fans will best remember Stairs’ moonshot in Game 4 of the 2008 NLCS off the Dodgers’ Jonathan Broxton that led them to victory.

During Stairs’ 1991 season in Harrisburg, he hit .333 with 78 RBIs, 13 HRs, and 23 SBs. For his efforts, he topped Jim Thome and Jeromy Burnitz to win the Eastern League MVP.

Stairs’ career came to an end when the Nationals released him in the middle of the 2011 season. He now coaches ice hockey in Bangor, Maine where his daughters attend high school. This past Wednesday Stairs celebrated his 45th birthday.

Land (26)
1 Dimir Guildgate
12 Island

Some of the major cards in this deck are:

Consuming Aberration - The star card of this deck, it allows you to discard cards off your opponents deck until he discards a land, every time you play a spell. He then gains power and toughness for every card in your oponnents graveyard, making him extremely powerful in a milling deck.

Wight of Precinct Six – Strong for the same reason Consuming Aberration is a good card, gains +1/+1 for every card in your opponents graveyard.

Whispering Madness – The other rare of the deck, allows you to have everyone discard their hands, and then everyone draws cards equal to the most discarded this way. So if you have no cards in your hand, and your opponent has 5, then he discards all 5, and then you both draw 5 cards. It also has cipher, making it reusable by dealing damage with the creature you equipped it to.

Dimir Keyrune - My favorite keyrune in the new block, it has 2/2 and unblockable, making it great for later in the game when your enemy is stronger creature wise and you can’t tough him. Also helps you ramp up mana faster as an artifact.

Grisly Spectacle – Destroy a non-artifact creature, and then have your opponent discard cards equal to the creatures power. A case of “The bigger they are, the harder they fall”. Plus, isn’t it just so much fun to blow up the enemy with their own card?

A few good cards to put in are Lazav, Dimir Mastermind, to help take advantage of the creatures you’re milling, and Mind Grind, Allowing you to pay 2 mana +X, and have your opponent discard cards until he has discarded X lands.

All in all, I got this recently and it is way easier to play with right off the bat than the Golgari deck was (not to say the scavenge mechanic is no fun). A great deck over all.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful day!

My best friend and I took a roadtrip to the Baseball Hall Of Fame. I don’t remember much about what happened that night (we stopped in Syracuse for the night on the way back to Toronto and sampled many of the fine (and some not so fine) local brews)

The BBHOF was fantastic though. Seeing as it was off season it was very quiet. I would expect the place and town to be rammed full on a nice summer day or during inudction weekend. Outside the hall pretty much every store on the main street is some type of memorabilia shop. Not surprisingly, there wasn’t much Hockey stuff.

The HOF is well set up, has a ton of excellent exhibits and kept too 40-somethings entertained for 4 hours. Of course for me one the best parts was the Card display.

As a novice baseball collector it was great to see the history of the cards spread out. I spent a ton of time, just looking at each year so I could get a feel for the progression of design, style and stars.

Now I know many people are out there who want to go or dream of going so I don’t want to post too many pictures or give away details other than to say definitely worth it if you get a chance to go.

I found this in a drawer under a tangle of old white Apple cables. I lived and died for The Mod Squad, I won’t lie. They were cool, troubled, and bad ass – Peggy Lipton in her size zero hip huggers, Clarence Williams III and his Black Panther-esqu je ne sais quoi. And then, ahhhh, Michael Cole. We were married in 1968, in a small, private ceremony in my tiny bedroom which was wallpapered in Tiger Beat sourced photos – a shrine to our love. My dad had a second cousin who was a pretty big actor out in Hollywood. He came to visit us once in Connecticut – he drove up the driveway to our raised ranch in a shiny Cadillac convertible, with his stunning wife in tow. He was besties with Aaron Spelling, and brought me a dog eared script from The Mod Squad episode he had played the bad guy in. Before I knew it, my Mod Squad dreams came true. A couple of months later my dad, my two brothers and I drove onto the Paramount lot. I macrame’d a groovy belt especially for the occasion, and wore a purple fringe vest I bought at Olvera Street the day before. It was the best day of my life. At least I thought so back then. It’s nice to go back there for a moment or two, thanks to this tired, worn Mod Squad Trading Card.

With most of the cast for Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy still not even cast yet, fans are feverishly waiting for more info about the project. Marvel has just released 6 images of trading cards that will come out in parallel with the “Guardians of the Galaxy #1” comic book by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Steve McNiven.

The storyline of Guardians of the Galaxy revolves around U.S. pilot Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who ends up in outer space, in the middle of an intergalactic conflict where he then goes on the run with the titular galactic freedom fighters.

The Guardians of the Galaxy are galactic freedom fighters who oppose the evil Badoon race – a reptilian-like alien species. The latter occupy the earth of the 31st century. In the original Marvel comics the Guardians team up with Captain America and Thor, who have traveled in time to stage a rebellion against the Badoon.

The cards show us Iron Man in a space suit version of Tony Stark’s armor. Could this mean The Armored Avenger will make an appearance in the movie or is this card only tied into the comic book? (My guess…don’t hold your breath.) Only time will tell but in the mean time speculation is all we have until more members are cast and plot lines are revealed.

F.Y.I. rumor has it that Adrianne Palicki of “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” is in the running to play the part of Gamora. What are your thoughts on that?

Guardians of the Galaxy will be directed by James Gunn and currently stars Chris Pratt as U.S. pilot Peter Quill, AKA Star-Lord. The movie is expected to be released on August 1, 2014.

The story advised is that Wagner was towards his cards currently being inserted into something that children would gather. So the production of his cards stopped abruptly. It is assumed that much less than 100 of his cards exist in this set. The 1909 T-206 Honus Wagner card has offered for as substantially as $2.eight million.[33]
Sets of cards are issued with just about every season for key professional sports activities. Given that companies usually need to spend gamers for the suitable to use their photographs, the vast vast majority of sports activities cards feature specialist athletes. Amateurs appear only seldom, usually on cards created or authorized by the institution they compete for, this kind of as a university.
Several older sports cards (pre-1980) command a high price today this is because they are really hard to uncover, in particular in top quality affliction. This took place because many children applied to location their cards in bicycle spokes, where the cards had been effortlessly damaged. Rookie cards of Hall of Fame sports stars can command thousands of dollars if they have been relatively nicely-preserved.
In the 1980s, sports activities cards started to get produced in increased numbers, and collectors commenced to keep their cards in greater affliction as they became more and more aware of their probable investment worth. This trend continued effectively into the 1990s.
The proliferation of cards saturated the market, and by the late 1990s, card companies began to create scarcer versions of cards to maintain a lot of collectors interested. The latest trends in the pastime have been “game utilised memorabilia” cards, which normally attribute a piece of a player’s jersey worn in a authentic expert game other memorabilia cards incorporate pieces of bats, balls, hats, helmets, and floors. Authenticated autographs are also common, as are “serially numbered” cards, which are generated in much smaller sized quantities than common “base set cards”.
Autographs obtained by card manufacturers have grow to be the most collected baseball cards in the hobby’s historical past. This started off in 1990 in baseball when Upper Deck randomly inserted autographs of Reggie Jackson into boxes. They are frequently referred to as “Certified Autographed Inserts” or “CAI’s”. Each the athlete’s and card company’s reputations are on the line if they do not personally signal these cards. This has produced the most authentic autographs in existence.[citation required] These cards all have some form of printed statements that the autographs are authentic, this way, no matter who owns the autograph there is no query of its authenticity. CAI’s have branched out into autographs of famous actors, musicians, Presidents, and even Albert Einstein. Mostly these autographs are reduce from flat things such as postcards, index cards, and plain paper. Then they are pasted onto cards. In 2001, a business named Playoff started getting autographs on stickers that are caught on the cards rather of them really signing the cards. There is sturdy opposition against these kinds of autographs due to the fact the gamers by no means even saw the cards that the stickers were affixed to.[citation wanted]
The competition between card corporations to generate quality sports cards has been fierce. In 2005, the long-standing sports card producer Fleer went bankrupt and was purchased out by Upper Deck.

Pretty much, true to the Evolve mechanic of the Simic, the strongest creature you have makes this creature its equal, plus one, and allows you to draw that many cards. So if your strongest creature has 6/6, then Zegana is a 7/7 and allows you to draw 7 cards. Great for the end game 6 mana cost, pretty much a large creature and a huge draw card rolled into one. (Kinda like how all of the Simic creatures are multiple creatures, rolled into one…. almost made a pun there.)

A good card for any Green and Blue deck, it doesn’t improve all that much in a Simic deck, but is the perfect topper for an already high-powered Evolving field. My favorite of the two Simic Mythic rares.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful day!

The Speculative Fiction Foundation

P.O. Box 782

Cedar Rapids, IA 52406-0782

Dear Mr. Campbell,

Amongst the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and a variety of PC games a more traditional game still manages to flourish: Magic: The Gathering. This is a card game that immerses its players into the fantasy world where they are Planeswalkers, who control powerful sorceries and enchantments, in a battle to see who will be left the winner.

This twenty year old trading card game, that utilizes its players’ skill in strategy, imagination and logic, is still played by a large number of people, even though, video games are consistently taking over the gaming world. The creators at Wizards of the Coast are still producing newer versions of the cards and people are still buying them.

Curiosity as to why Magic is still so popular and access to an interview with, Mike Gillis, one of the employees at Wizards of the Coast, have caused me to research the topic further. I propose writing a non-fiction short-story on Magic players. I plan to immerse myself in the culture and gain the answers to why this game continues to keep players interest. This will fit well among the fantasy stories, poems and articles about science fiction, fantasy, swords and sorceries that make up the essence of Aofie’s Kiss.

This piece will run in the normal 4,000 word limit for non-fiction pieces with pictures of the playing cards I have encountered along the way.

Thank you for your consideration of this non-fiction short story. I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

This might ring a bell as it’s an updated version of The Sudden Realisation that started off my little trading card series.
Selected by Montreal in the first round of the 1998 amateur draft, Brad Wilkerson would go on to have a solid eight-year Major League career for the Expos/ Nationals, Rangers, Mariners, and Blue Jays. After a breakout campaign in 2002, Wilkerson finished second in National League Rookie of the Year voting to Colorado’s Jason Jennings.

The Owensboro, Kentucky native struggled in his first professional season in 1999 as a member of the Senators. In 138 games, Wilkerson collected only 99 hits on his way to an average of .235 while striking out 100 times. Wilkerson found himself back in Harrisburg to begin the 2000 season and the difference was night and day. He excelled, hitting .336 with 36 doubles (one off the single-season team record) in only 66 games before earning a promotion to Triple-A Ottawa.

Wilkerson was inducted into the Collegiate Baseball Hall of Fame as a member of the 2012 class for his distinguished career at the University of Florida.

Ah, the happy days of Roger Clemens, before his career took a downturn, before he left the Red Sox and found an allegedly steroid-fueled pitching rejuvenation in Toronto, and before he joined the Yankees and became the mound-dwelling lightning rod of baseball’s inflated numbers era. Yes, in 1992 he was still a figure viable enough for a baseball card chase set and “superhero” puffery. (In some ways, this part of Clemens’ career was much like David Hasselhoff’s pre-burger ”One to Grow On” era.) This was when all he had was a heater, when he had yet to add an on-field temper to his arsenal, one that fueled bat-throwing incidents and inspired potential targets to take karate lessons to protect themselves from the Rocket’s wrath.

Fleer baseball cards. 1992. BE THERE (OR ELSE).

And now onto Mythic Rare number 14, with only one more card left to review in the series!

This card deals 2 damage and heals you 2 hp when it enters the field. It also will disappear for your opponents turn, then reappear, dealing another 2 damage and gaining you another 2 hp. And finally, with the haste it gains after you do this once, it can attack before disappearing once more, which is pretty nice with its 5/5, and the fact that (unless I’m mistaken) you can exile it from your graveyard and return it to the battlefield just like normal. So only exiling instant kill cards can remove Obzedat, making it definitely worthy of its Mythic Rarity.

All in all, one of my favorite non-planeswalker mythics of this set for its adaptability and almost invincibility. A very nice card….

Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful day!
