The luxury watch brand A. Lange & Sohne was originally established by Richard Lange in 1868 in Glashutte, which was regarded as the forefront of watchmaking in Germany. The brand’s attention to detail has won a lot of admiration from watch collectors and many consumers.

In the early years of development, the brand mainly manufactured watches to serve the rich and even monarchs. In 1898, the manufacture of a unique jewelled pocket watch as a present to the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire has gained a lot of prestige to the brand and most people regard the brand as a symbol of noble.

In 1994, the launching of the splendid timepieces including the Lange 1, the Arkade, the Saxony and the Tourbillon has satisfied the needs of those people who are fond of mechanical watch movement and complications.

The brand stopped manufacturing for a long time since it was destroyed by an aerial bombing during the war in Europe. And it did not begin its production until the reunion of Germany. In 2000, the brand was purchased by the famous Richemont Group, and soon it gained a large market share with the excellent traditions of the A. Lange & Sohne brand.

One prominent feature of the A. Lange & Sohne collection of watches lies on their hand engraved components. They are regarded as a combination of art, innovation and perfection. For those people who are in the pursuit of perfection, these watches are really a good option and they are worthy every penny of your hard earned money.

Image : http://www.flickr.com

When looking at the outside of a log cabin, one could assume that in natural and traditional as the exterior, but you might be wrong. The interior of these buildings are as diverse as families are due to the fact that every family is different. Traditional does not mean home decor needs, animals and trees. There are ways that you can use this decorative without using style and design. Where should we start in the traditional home decor?

Traditional home decor findsConsideration of the basic design of the house, including the wall designs. In a log cabin, there are usually non-smooth walls that you have to paint or decorate otherwise, because they are wooden planks. The floors are mostly made of wood, too. This can be a major challenge in the search for traditional home decor, because he needs to improve, and the logs, so that will complement the beautiful interior and friendly environment.

The shadow of the wood, which accounts, will be home to dictate some of yourDecisions in the traditional home decor. Different shades of blue with white accents are a very popular color choice for log homes because they work well with many different shades of wood. If you have a very dark wood, then you might want to consider bold colors draw, including deep red and dark green in your facility.

Have when choosing your color scheme is not the only decision you make, however, is. Traditional home decor for a log cabin would be shorter curtains, veryrugs, and few wall decorations. Area rugs are used to a touch of softness and color to add, however. The furniture is usually convenient, comfortable chairs, upholstery fabric, well you have to go with the log cabin design.

The traditional home decor, you should consider your personal preferences and personality, too. Excluding this is your room is not so inviting and comfortable for you and your family and feel that the most important isTarget. Look through magazines, websites, and stores in the home, to see which songs appeal to you, so you an idea of what you want and need for your home. Your log cabin should be a place of solace and refuge for you and your family. By carefully selecting your pieces of furniture are, you create a warm and cozy home for you, your friends and your family.

Siel Marschall is a German, family owned, outdoor goods manufacturer, who has been honing their craft since 1896. Made from some of the finest quality fabrics, and nearly all by hand, they still claim, “Our best machines are still our hands”.

The Canoe Day Pack (my latest obsession) is made from the same canvas that once topped Willys Jeeps during WWII. This waterproof canvas, along with leather straps and brass buckles, makes this Day Pack a dead serious piece of luggage that’s guaranteed to last long enough to find its way into the hands of your next of kin.

Just one member of the Siel Marschall family, they also produce clothing, footwear, and fishing equipment, all worth a peek. Check out their site for the full details and availability.

___________________________________________________

If you are a bit like me you are a lover of traditional folk as well as of contemporary folk music. And if I’m not mistaken, you will love those lovely four ladies from Canada playing folk just in the vein of the good old days. They hail from Whitehorse/Yukon and founded their band back in 2007. The name of the band is Annie Lou and their self-titled debut saw the light of day back in May 2009. The four members of the band are: Anne Louise Genest (guitar and vocals), Kim Barlow (clawhammer banjo and vocals), Lindy Jones (upright bass and vocals) and Meredith Bates (fiddle).

The first thing you will notice is the old and traditional sound of the tracks. You really get the feeling of the traditional folk sound – and what is the great thing about this, even the self-written songs sound as they were sung long time before. The band managed to catch the spirit of the traditional songs and let itself be guided by it to come up with this old and new, dusty and windy result. The combination of banjo, acoustic guitar, upright bass and fiddle works very well and creates a beautiful atmosphere of nostalgia especially in combination with the three wonderful voices taking turn in the songs or singing in duet or trio.

As folk fanatics you surly have heard about the Daniel, Fred & Julie release on You Have Changed Records that is going to be released in a few days. Even though I had no opportunity to listen to the whole thing, I can agree with those voices which call it one of the best folk albums of 2009 (check out the great post over at Herohill). But I don’t want to write about Daniel, Fred & Julie here. I just wanted to say that Annie Lou can be seen as the other side of folk music covers. And I think that the two records work very well together because they combine two different styles of interpretation. On the one hand there is the spares sound of acoustic guitar driven folk and on the other hand you got those emphatic fiddle and banjo driven style.

So what’s to say at the end of the post? Maybe that you have to check out their music over at MySpace and their personal homepage and that you have to buy your copy of Annie Lou at cdbaby.com without delay. A great record that deserves some blog love.

In an oddball pre-Thanksgiving op-ed piece in The Forward, Rabbi Jacob Neusner tells the story of hi

In an oddball pre-Thanksgiving op-ed piece in The Forward, Rabbi Jacob Neusner tells the story of his beginnings as a Reform Jew, his rabbinical education and career as a Conservative Jew, and his eventual return to the Reform fold.

It’s an interesting story, which you can read in full here.

Here at The Shuckle, we’ll look at a few of his more bizarre statements about Reform Judaism.

First of all, you have to understand Neusner’s dichotomy (false? jury is out on that…) of Jewish life. He declares that American Jewish life is composed of self-segregationist and integrationist elements. He places Conservative, Modern Orthodox, Reconstructionist and Reform streams in the integrationist camp, meaning that they seek to be integrated into broader society and that they find their truths in many places, including in the Torah.

The self-segregationist group, according to Neusner is composed of “Orthodox groupings such as Hasidism and yeshivish or Mitnagdic Judaism,” who find truth only in Jewish traditional learning. OK. Fine. Without giving it too much thought, this seems like a fairly apt dichotomy, though I might argue that most dichotomies of religion fail at some point. But that’s for another blog post.

Neusner is fairly “triumphalist” about Reform Judaism, as Rabbi Andy Bachman noted in a brief Facebook wall post about this today. And triumphalist he is:

Today, however, I have returned to the convictions (if not to the cuisine) of my youth — not because they are expedient but because they are compelling. After a half-century of apostasy, I affirm Reform Judaism as the American Judaism both of my personal choice and of our communal necessity. Indeed, I have come to believe that if Reform Judaism did not exist today, American Jews would have to invent it.

He then goes on to decry “The sorry state of Conservative Judaism.” I’d argue that the Conservative movement has actually been the more bold of the two lately. Just compare their Hekhsher Tzedek with the URJ’s new “Let’s eat less red meat, but not acknowledge that mindful eating is a Jewish tradition” initiative.

But then he gets to the bit that really gets me upset:

Over the past half-century, however, the integrationist Judaisms have sometimes seemed to lose sight of their convictions. Modern Orthodoxy has been under siege from its right flank, while even Reform Judaism has chosen to re-adopt some traditional rites. The outcome of this reversion to tradition has been to effectively present the integrationist Judaisms as less authentically Jewish than Orthodoxy.

He’s so close to being on the nose that it hurts me to read it.

Have “integrationist Judaisms” been seen recently as “less authentically Jewish than Orthodoxy”? Yes. But is that recent phenomenon only? I’m not sure. Is it because the Reform movement has realized that people like ritual? No.

Neusner incorrectly identifies increased ritual observances as Reform’s true plight. In my eyes, as any regular reader of this blog will know, that is the Reform intellectual community’s latest triumph! What has led to us being seen as “less authentic” is an obliviousness to or an unwillingness to thing about framing and branding, as any reader of BZ will know.

Ironically, if you buy into BZ’s reading of this situation (and I do), you will see that Neusner is guilty of the very thing that has led to the sense of diminished authenticity he’s upset about. “Reform Judaism has chosen to re-adopt some traditional rites.” Here he buys into the framing of the word “traditional” offered up by the right. He agrees with them, implying, “If it’s a ritual more common on the right, it is something truly worthy of the word traditional.”

I reject that. I’m a Jew of tradition and of Reform and there is no contradiction in terms in saying so.

If one has experienced what it’s like to join someone else’s family in their different traditions, expectations and personalities, one knows what it means to connect in an evolving world of Traditional and Digital mindsets.

Outgoing messaging versus conversational engagements. Perfectly rendered imagery versus user manipulated graphic elements. Even optimization and incremental tracking versus network ratings are just examples of similar patterns with very different tactics. Although they feel very much the same, when the rubber hits the road these differences can really make an impact to a team, a product, an audience and even a brand.

Not just coexisting, but growing and prospering in a relationship together can achieve successful cohesion. Real success won’t happen overnight. Just like that family dynamic, it’s the simple things that make a difference and the simple things that audiences will notice most.

The subtleties that make us different are exactly what make us unique. The more we can learn about, nurture and hand-pick specific nuances that have graced us for decades or been established just in the past year, the greater the opportunity for success.

A camel herder relaxes as he waits for customers to come by and purchase fresh camel milk. One can see many camel stations like this one on the outskirts of Jeddah. Those camels with straps visible on their torsos are actually nursing mama camels wearing bra-like contraptions which inhibit the babies from nursing. This allows more milk to be available for paying customers. Camel’s milk sells for 20 riyals (about $5 US) for about a gallon. It is richer in vitamins and other nutrients than regular cow’s milk and has proven health benefits like controlling diabetes and blood pressure and constipation.

Time travel in Bukchon

Have you ever wondered about the Seoul in 1960s or even during the Joseon dynasty?

What do you think about it? Do you think it would be really different from now or just same?

As we live in 21C many of you have never seen the image of Seoul in the past.

However, there is one way to experience Seoul from the past.

It’s trip to Bukchon Hanok Village.

In Korea, there aren’t many places to experience the traditional housing. Since many of the residents of Koreans has changed during 1960s. Before that every people lived in Hanok (Traditional Korean house). However, during total development and industrialization many Hanoks were demolished and tall apartments were built in that place. Now we can see Hanoks in Folk Villages or rarely very few in normal streets.

Surrounded by Gyeongbokgung (palace), Changdeokgung (palace) and Jongmyo (Royal Shrine), Bukchon is a representative residential area concentrated with Korean traditional house, Hanok in Seoul. It is also called ’street museum in the unban core’ with having many historical spots, cultural heritages and folk materials. Bukchon Hanok village is in the center of Seoul. No one can imagine about traditional houses in that place. Bukchon is different from Insa-dong which is famous between visitors for traditional thing. Bukchon is not a made up street which is filled up with shops and events. Hanoks in Bukchon is real residence for many Koreans. So visitors can feel the real atmosphere just as from past.

As you get off in front of the subway Line 3 Anguk Station. You can see the entrance of the Gyedong-gil alleyway street.

At the beginning of the Gyedong-gil alleyway there is a Bukchon traditional culture center. In culture center you can see the neat and standard form of Hanok. And in room there are 3D simulations of building Hanok and structure of it. People can learn about Hanok with enjoyment with 3D simulations. What is more interesting is that you can meet many traditional Korean culture experiencing programs there. Such as drawing, learning traditional musical instruments, making traditional knots, experiencing tea ceremony and so on. There are so many things to enjoy in Bukchon culture center.

As you go into through Gyedong-gil alleyway you can see many shops which looks like it’s from 1970s. Out of dated signboard hung on the shops, untidy goods on the shelves and so on. However, this street gives us pleasure of retro and nostalgia.

At the end of the Gyedong-gil alleyway there is a school which looks like the boarding school from western. This Choong Ang High school shows the coexistence of Korean and Western culture.

Turning around in front of the school you can go through the Gahoedong-Gil Street.

In Gahoedong-gil Street you can see many residences of famous person including historical figures. You can also see many galleries to visit around here.

What is interesting in these streets there are photo spots where you can take really good shots.

Photo spot notice is on the street. All you have to do is step on it and take incredible photos.

Most of the houses in Bukchon Hanok village are Hanoks. And some of them are opened for visitors offering interesting exhibitions or experiences.

There are also many guest houses for foreigners. Visitors can stay in Hanok and experience the lifestyle of traditional Koreans. Many guest house owners are fluent in English and know a lot about Korea. So it would be a great experience to stay in guest houses. Many centers offer everyday experiences to enjoy and there are bunch of exhibitions to visit. It’s also convenient to go to other place since it’s located in the center of Seoul. There is more information about Bukchon Hanok Village in the site

http://bukchon.seoul.go.kr/eng/index.jsp

This site is all written in English and Korean, Japanese and Chinese sites are also provided.

Bukchon village center also provides travel guide brochure written in many languages. There are information centers which is equipped with many brochures and kind helpers.

There are some tour guide programs a few times a day.

If you want to feel the real Traditional Korean life style, this Bukchon village will flatter your senses.

Why don’t you ride a time machine to back in history of Korea!

Sanur is a tranquil beach town in Bali Island, and is located about 15 minutes drive from the bustli

Sanur is a tranquil beach town in Bali Island, and is located about 15 minutes drive from the bustling city of Kuta. A vacation to Bali is considered incomplete without taking a tour to this traditional village. Situated on the opposite side of the island’s southern peninsular, near Denpasar, Sanur has a long history dating back to 913 AD, the details of which are inscribed on an ancient stone pillar, namely, Prasasti Blanjong, which in turn is enshrined in a glass case at the rear of Blanjong on Jalan Danau Poso in the south side of the town.

It is at this place where the Dutch forces landed in the beginning of 1900s to begin their quest for Bali. Further, Sanur boasts of the first luxury beach resort in Bali which was built more than 30 years ago. Sanur is now a much preferred destination for comfortable long stays, since it is not as feverish as Kuta or Nusa Dua. It is also a place where ancient Balinese ethnicity and modern comforts exist in harmony.

The major draw of Sanur is undoubtedly its magnificent white soft sandy beaches, stretching south for about six kilometers with gleaming tidal crystal like water and ending in the mangrove marshlands opposite to the Serangan Island. Since it is bordered by a reef-sheltered lagoon, the Sanur beach is considered one of the safest in the island.

An array of activities can be enjoyed in the beaches such as canoeing, paragliding, and jet skiing. Additionally, the placid waters between the reef and the shore make it excellent for such activities as wind surfing, paddle boating, and swimming, particularly during high tide. Certain parts of the reef are filled with fish species, which make it a great spot for snorkeling. One can also enjoy fishing in the area, for which the assistance of local boatmen as well as cruises are available. In times of low tides, the beach appears to be wide due to its natural formations.

In contrast to Kuta beach, the beach in Sanur allows guest to enjoy a range of activities such as volleyball and sun bathing. The beach area also has a paved walkway, which is perfect for activities such as jogging, walking, and cycling. Above all, the beach allows visitors to savor the picturesque views of the surrounding including the magnificent vistas of the sunrise. Also, stunning is the scenic views of the sunset, during which the beach area is dotted with sail boats.

Sanur is an important religious center, the evidence for which is a plenty of temples found here. The village is also home to many colorful ceremonies as well as traditional festivals and dances conducted here. One of the most popular festivals conducted here is the Sanur Festival, during which the place is thronged by large number of people. Further, in order to experience the traditional aspect of Sanur, a variety of options are available in the form of dances such as Barong, Janger, and Kecak and traditional puppet shows with themes taken from such great epics as the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. Also, a unique cultural art form of Sanur is Tabuh Rah, which in turn is a part of a sacred ceremony.

A not to miss attraction in Sanur is its local art market, where you can see an array of traditional markets selling items such as handicraft specialties, clothing, paintings, ceramic items, and other unique accessories. Above all, the nightlife in Sanur is truly vibrant with a continuum of nightlife bars and clubs.

When comes to accommodation, tourists can choose from a variety of choices including traditional Balinese accommodation and western style luxurious accommodation. Many of the hotels are coupled with high-end facilities and amenities. Additionally, majority of the chic hotels come with excellent restaurants serving a range of cuisines from Asian and western cuisines to Balinese cuisines. Apart from restaurants within the hotels, you can also find a large number of restaurants and eateries along the beachside, from where a variety of sumptuous meals can be tasted. For unique dining experience, Sanur has some superb choices in the form of open air cafes and restaurants.

For those looking for privacy, some excellent accommodation choices are beachside villas and bungalows, each of the designed with luxurious facilities. These accommodation options are also great for those who are vacationing with large group. In addition, many of the service providers in the region provide packages crafted with accommodation, dining, sightseeing, transportation, and facilities to enjoy some of the top activities in the area.

The internet undoubtedly serves as one of the best sources to find the most suitable accommodation option that goes with your needs. Travel magazines, yellow pages, and reviews are the other sources to search for a suitable hotel or resort in the area.

Firstly, lets clear up what I mean by the term ‘traditional cardio.’ I mean the sorts of things you would do in a gym, i.e. running, cycling, cross training, etc. These are the activities you DO NOT need to do.

Why? Let’s clarify exactly what cardio means. It’s basically getting your heart-rate up to a higher level and keeping it there. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you have ever tried one of my home/circuit training workouts, I’m sure you will agree you most definitely achieve this objective. And I can assure you there is no traditional cardio in them whatsoever.

It’s important to understand I am NOT saying cardio in itself is not necessary. It’s just the monotonous, traditional forms of cardio that we can avoid.

Today’s Takeaway – If you can implement the right exercises in the right format, you will see great fat loss results. Compared to this method of training, traditional cardio is both outdated and ineffective.

I have to say the last time I made a demo reel was for my 2004 Vancouver Film School Demo Reel back in 2004 and it took three months with less sleep. Today I would say my Fantasy Wedding Photography Demo Reel is taken me more than three months of the making; I would proud to say my art work has taken another step forward. As music goes I have chosen “Send me an Angel” by Real Life in the 84; this is a song that I will never bore. As you notice I do like angle in my photography (I’m a lucky guy; I do have an angel at home that look after me) and that is why the song is selected.

I hope the slide show will inspire you folks out there as a lover, photographer, artist or just passer by. If you do enjoy my work please leave me a comment how I can improve.

Thank you and enjoy

examples of batik. they are not just motives, there are philosophies behind them.

Today, 2nd of October 2009, Indonesia created another golden history. United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has already inaugurated that batik is the traditional heritage from Indonesia, in Abu Dhabi. Hopefully, the recognition from UNESCO vanished our neighbouring countries to claim that batik are theirs.

Before batik, Indonesia has already registered other traditional cultural practices and natural sites to UNESCO, such as wayang puppetry, keris, Komodo National Park, Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple, and Sumatran Tropical Rainforest. Indonesian government has done very great job as they conducted so many historical, cultural, and many other researches to convince UNESCO that batik is ours, and they’ve got it.

Suddenly today, so many Indonesians wear batik, updating their status on facebook, blogs, and twitter with word: BATIK. That’s a piece of good news, at least we are as Indonesian aware that batik is our own heritage. Hopefully we can learn the good of batik, and just not to wear it because of this UNESCO’s recognition. I hope we can appreciate batik better!

Indonesians tend to be followers. When so many people wearing batik, they will follow as they think it’s trend to wear it now. My question is : why all of us don’t wear batik from long time ago? And most importantly, why we need to show off to the whole world that we are wearing batik. So what?!

Quoting from curator of Batik Museum in Yogyakarta, Pragoya : “So many people think that batik is just a motive on a piece of cloth. Actually, batik is the technique of creating motive on a piece of cloth and further down the philosophy.”. Yeah, as a proud Indonesian, at least we spend some time to learn something what’s the philosophy about. No point of confronting with our neighbouring countries about batik, but we do not know exactly what is batik. And that’s why, our neighbouring countries unable to claim batik, because they do not know the philosophy of batik, which so many batik artists in Java master.

That confirmed that so many Indonesians do not know much about batik, including me.

Archeologist teacher in Gadjah Mada University, Timbul Haryono also said that “batik is the philosophy passed down from our ancestors. We need to learn what’s batik exactly.”

So from now, I’m happy that so many Indonesians aware that batik is ours! The recognition from UNESCO is just an introduction for some of us, and now we need to start loving and be proud of batik.. It’s one of our identities form Indonesia. Appreciate batik, from wearing it, or maybe learn the philosophy of it!

Head of Education Department in Solo, Indonesia confirmed that his city, Solo, already put batik lessons inside their curriculum. “This is to ensure that our students love batik,” said Rakhmat Sutomo. This is one of the ways to promote batik into our society.

And please note too, that batik is not just our heritage related to clothes. Remember in North Sumatra, kain ulos is ours, too! And also, our heritages are not just about batik. We are rich of cultures. We have a lot, which has not been confirmed by UNESCO.

But for now, let me say happy batik day for all Indonesians!!!

www.cartoonstock.com/…/c/creative_thinking.asp

In schools today there are more demands being placed on students at an earlier age. It is important that we are allowing students to think creatively. Resnick states, “In a society characterized by uncertainty and rapid change, the ability to think creatively is becoming the key to success and satisfaction both professionally and personally.” I agree with this statement. We need to equip students with the ability to think outside the box for a solution to a problem. At times, educators discourage students from solving problems a certain way because they are not doing it the traditional way. It is vital that we nurture and validate creative thinking so that students feel comfortable taking chances
