J’aimais bien mon pote C. De parents hongrois, il vivait en Suède. Il absorbait les idiomes à une allure stupéfiante. Il m’a répondu : non, j’ai suivi ma scolarité entière à Göteborg ; j’ai appris à manier le suédois dans tous les styles. Ma plume est assez agréable paraît-il. En revanche, je n’ai jamais exercé mon hongrois dans des situations sérieuses. Je me débrouille pour le comprendre et le lire mais je ne saurais pas l’utiliser dans des démarches administratives, professionnelles, commerciales, juridiques.

Bilingue : la réalité

Le bilinguisme réel signifie une aisance similaire dans l’une et l’autre langue, quel que soit le style, quelle que soit la situation – car il est impossible de traduire avec finesse sans connaissances culturelles. Le phénomène est très rare : l’écrasante majorité des humains cultive un idiome dominant, typiquement la langue maternelle.

En français, la pratique développe des affinités permettant de décrypter les informations autour du texte brut. Analyser en quoi Jules Renard n’écrit pas du tout comme Albert Cohen, les attitudes et allusions implicites chez un interlocuteur,  les différences fondamentales entre un article du Monde et les ragots de Paris Match, comment s’adresser respectivement au syndic et à un collaborateur de travail. En une phrase  : les relations sociales subtiles et variées selon les situations exigent une sensibilité linguistique élevée.

En anglais et en italien, la même démarche préside : cultiver des affinités pour affiner la compréhension (lecture, écoute) et la production (écriture, parole). Shakespeare, avec toute l’estime que je lui dois, ne sera d’aucun secours dans les actes quotidiens. Habiter à l’étranger, comme le soulignent Céline Graciet puis Audrey sur NakedTranslations,  signifie : les contacts et les contrats concernant logement, banque, travail, démarches administratives, santé, choix de produits dans les commerces, instructions dans l’entreprise, bavardages professionnels ou amicaux, orientation et transports… toutes les négociations, transactions, conversations que nous menons naturellement dans notre environnement habituel.

Rareté des bilingues, y compris traducteurs

Pour sûr, je me débrouille en anglais et en italien et, je l’espère, en français surtout ; les fameux “bilingues” hexagonaux,  les anglicisants “opérationnels”, les rédacteurs veillant à leur style en français et d’autres encore ne dédaignent pas mes services à l’occasion !  (notamment quand ils croient les obtenir gratis) Pour autant, je ne suis pas bilingue et parmi mes rencontres, même si les nuances ne passionnent pas les clients et les recruteurs, je n’ai guère rencontré de collègues m’affirmant, les yeux dans les yeux, qu’ils sont “bilingues”.

D’une part à cause du nombre d’anglophones sur la planète : par la force des choses, chaque population décrit des réalités locales et cultive des expressions traditionnelles. D’autre part à cause de l’étendue des connaissances humaines : ouvrez un magazine sur l’automobile, l’informatique, les collectivités locales, la législation, les composants de l’alimentation, les figures de style ou n’importe quoi d’autre ; à perte de vue s’étale la richesse vertigineuse des mots sur l’hexagone – imaginez l’ajout de toutes les variantes régionales. Le patrimoine linguistique englobe les variations  les plus extrêmes.

L’expression “langue maternelle“, malgré le mécontentement de la HALDE, recouvre un fait linguistique d’importance cruciale en traduction. Je n’ai pas une souplesse égale du français vers l’anglais, ni par le vocabulaire, ni par le style. Toujours, je doute :  mes tournures sont peut-être compréhensibles et grammaticalement correctes, mais correspondent-elles à la situation ?

La familiarité dans ma langue et, à un moindre degré, avec l’anglais et l’italien, me permet d’appréhender les nuances fines de la communication humaine, depuis le registre vulgaire jusqu’au plus précieux, l’ironie ou la solennité, le classique banal ou le cordial, sans négliger l’intuition devant des vocables relevant d’une spécialisation ou les allusions indirectes. La communication humaine, même restreinte à l’écrit, ne saurait se borner à des informations purement fonctionnelles.

Il y a quelques mois, je me trouvais en présence d’Italiens devisant tranquillement entre eux tandis que je vaquais. Je recueillais quelques bribes de la conversation. Une jeune femme contait une quelconque anecdote, lorsque mon intérêt se déplaça depuis son discours vers son timbre chaud, vibrant, grave.

D’une seconde à l’autre – j’ignore comment – je me suis détachée de mes connaissances linguistiques, plongée dans le ravissement simple d’écouter cette langue que j’aime tant dans sa musique, son rythme, ses gammes portées par cette voix délicieuse. Je me suis laissée bercer ainsi du chant de l’italien sans en saisir les paroles, jubilant du fugace retour à ce plaisir fondamental : le son de la langue, dépouillée de signification. Émerveillée, j’étais.

A force de progresser et de pratiquer, cette occasion se raréfie. Pourrais-je me distancier de l’anglais au point d’en oublier le sens? Je ne sais comment résonne le français à des oreilles étrangères – je ne le saurai probablement jamais, ma curiosité demeurera inassouvie.  Ce léger regret se glisse parfois dans mon esprit lorsque les ressources audiovisuelles, les causeries chez des relations ou les échos dans la rue procurent à mes tympans cette joie : le charme  que recèle la mélodie des paroles incomprises.

Attention aux conventions typographiques d’une langue à l’autre, surtout en matière de titres. “Le colonel” ; “madame Anderson” ou “Mme Anderson” ; “Mlle X” ou “mademoiselle X” (je vous renvoie au Bordas cité dans le message #1 de la série, d’ailleurs si vous vous y retrouvez mieux que moi, n’hésitez pas à corriger).

(4) “Sir“

Sans me prétendre très versée dans l’art épistolaire, à ma connaissance une lettre débute en général par “dear”. Les us et coutumes de l’époque (1865) étaient-ils différents? Les correspondants employaient-ils habituellement “sir” ? Ou bien, est-ce là une formulation chargée de sens ? Un esclave s’adressait-il à son (ex-)maître par “sir” ou bien l’auteur veut-il au contraire marquer sa volonté de traiter son ancien maître en égal voire en partenaire commercial? Dans la restitution en français, il ne sera pas question de broder autour du “monsieur” : le lecteur ne saisira pas forcément la nuance de cette expression à elle seule. En revanche, comprendre la valeur du “sir” fournit un indice sur l’attitude de l’auteur et donc sur le ton général de la lettre, qu’il faudra alors restituer autrement via le lexique et les tournures.

(5) “They go to Sunday School, and Mandy and me attend church regularly.“

N’importe quel lycéen saisirait le sens. En revanche, pour traduire, l’affaire se corse. Les enfants fréquentent l’école du dimanche. L’école du dimanche ? Est-ce la formulation française ? Parle-t-on d’école du dimanche en France ? Il me semble qu’il est plutôt question de catéchisme chez nous. Que les enfants de Jourdon aillent au catéchisme le dimanche, le mercredi ou le vendredi ne modifie pas le sens de ses paroles : je doute qu’il insiste sur le fait que ses mouflets vont à l’école le dimanche et pas un autre jour, il exprime plutôt leur implication dans des activités chrétiennes. Or, en français, les vocables chrétiens correspondent bien souvent au catholicisme alors qu’aux États-Unis, la population tend plutôt vers le protestantisme – ou dirais-je, les mouvances protestantes. Nous ignorons quelle confession remporte l’agrément de Jourdon et de sa famille, aussi convient-il de ne pas le rattacher à une tendance chrétienne particulière. Concernant le “catéchisme”, aucun souci : Lexilogos n’indique pas de marquage particulier entre courants chrétiens. En revanche, il en va tout autrement pour “attend church”. Aller à la messe ? La messe relève du lexique catholique. Aller à l’église ? “Édifice où les fidèles de la religion catholique ou orthodoxe se réunissent pour l’exercice du culte public”. Ce qui reviendrait à sous-entendre que Jourdon est soit catholique, soit orthodoxe, alors que rien ne le laisse augurer. Le flou s’impose : il va falloir prendre de la distance avec le terme et monter d’un degré dans le champ sémantique avec une expression telle que “assister aux célébrations”. La mention du catéchisme précède cette formulation : dans le mouvement de la phrase, le lecteur comprendra que cette famille est chrétienne pratiquante. Pas plus, pas moins.

(6) “I got my free papers in 1864 from the Provost Marshal General of the Department of Nashville“

Les “free papers” ne sont pas forcément si évidents à traduire (il aurait reçu des journaux gratuits? ). Je me doute bien qu’il a obtenu un document attestant sa liberté (et je le confirme, avec des nuances). Là ne réside pas l’écueil. La question renvoie à : existe-il un terme figé et couramment employé pour désigner ces paperasses ? Là, j’avoue, je sèche. Comment trouver cette info ?

Entrons dans le domaine de la terminologie. Le “Provost Marshal General” constitue une unité sémantique, et non une addition de provost + marshal + general.  Le réflexe naturel porte à ouvrir un dico pour trouver une correspondance française avec “Provost Marshal General“. Or, méfiance : le dictionnaire de 2009 fournira l’équivalent français de cette fonction en… 2009. Si le terme est identique, son contenu (la fonction réelle du personnage) a très bien pu évoluer depuis 1864. Auquel cas, calquer sans réfléchir constituerait un splendide anachronisme doublé d’un éventuel contresens : l’expression choisie devra refléter la réalité de ce métier. [ton pompeux] Nous touchons là l’essence de la terminologie et du travail de traduction : les mots ne renvoient pas qu’à des mots, les mots renvoient à des réalités. [/ton pompeux] C’est là qu’interviennent les connaissances culturelles et… la consultation d’un expert.

Je me suis adressée à M. Monney, citoyen suisse, traducteur, chef de projet, officier d’état-major général, blogueur et twitterien (Touitère, saycoule!). Je le remercie chaleureusement de son explication limpide et instructive, que je me fais un plaisir de partager avec mes lecteurs :

“Provost Marshal General” équivaut à “chef de la police militaire” ….la version moderne du “prévôt militaire” – après la séparation des pouvoirs, en l’occurrence du “préposé à l’armée d’ost” si l’on remonte jusqu’au Moyen Âge.
Si je prends l’armée suisse pour exemple – mon domaine d’expertise, jusqu’en 2004 le pendant du “Provost Marshal General” anglos-saxon était le “chef de la police militaire” ; depuis, sa dénomination s’est transformée en “chef de la Sécurité militaire”.

“Provost Marshal General” est, comme vous l’avez écrit, une fonction et non un grade (capitaine, colonel, bridagier, etc.). Certes, avec les transformations des forces armées, les prérogatives exactes de la fonction ont changé. Toutefois, la mission de base du “Provost Marshal General” est restée la même : commander les différents éléments des forces de police militaire qui lui sont attribuées ; enquêter sur tout délit ou infraction commis au sein des forces armées (entre militaires ; envers une loi ou un règlement) ou commis par un civil à l’encontre d’un militaire et inversement ; exécution des peines). En somme, il reprend au niveau militaire, toutes les prérogatives accordées dans le monde civil aux organes de police et aux préfets.
A l’époque (1864), dans l’armée américaine, on trouvait un “Provost Marshal General” par préfecture ["Departement“], voire région militaire dans d’autres armées. Plus tard, on en trouvait un par composante de l’armée : Navy, Air Force, etc. Aujourd’hui cette fonction s’exerce pour l’ensemble de l’armée, depuis le Pentagone.
Pour les prérogatives exactes d’un “Provost Marshal General” de 1864, notamment en situation de guerre, là, c’est avec un historien militaire américain qu’il faudrait discuter.

Après lecture, place à la réflexion. Je pourrais aller enquiquiner un expert ès histoire militaire américaine et un autre expert ès histoire militaire française pour dénicher une correspondance aussi exacte que possible en y consacrant plusieurs jours d’affilée. Pourquoi pas. Toutefois, ici, il s’agit d’une missive dont le propos central ne sera pas affecté par une légère approximation. Les nuances entre les fonctions des représentants de l’armée ne pèsent pas dans la compréhension du texte dans son ensemble, ni du paragraphe, ni de la phrase. Ma démarche insisterait sur la précision du terme s’il était question d’un récit entre militaires ou d’un document technique sur les grades et fonctions dans l’armée américaine. Ici, ces efforts constitueraient une perte de temps : je dispose, grâce à M. Monney, d’un degré suffisant de fiabilité au regard de cette lettre. Les spécialistes en histoire militaire comparée sont cordialement invités à corriger.

(7) “Please send the money by Adams Express, in care of V. Winters, esq, Dayton, Ohio“

Je suppute, à première lecture, qu’Adams Express renvoyait à une sorte de Western Union. Au pifomète, je pioche dans wikipedia (en anglais bien sûr) où j’apprends qu’il s’agissait d’un service postal. Toutefois, je doute que nombreux soient les francophones à connaître cette entreprise. Équilibre délicat entre clarté et précision, sans toutefois perdre de vue que le thème de la lettre ne consiste pas à tenir une conférence sur la structure et l’évolution d’Adams Express : il ne s’agit que d’une mention informative en cours de récit et dans laquelle je ne décèle pas d’allusion particulière. Un ajout explicatif et bref s’imposera, par exemple : “le service postal Adams Express”.

Quant au “Esq.”, nous naviguons dans les eaux du système juridique anglo-saxon, toujours dans la perspective de 1865 pouvant différer du système contemporain. Les fonctions réelles de lawyer, esquire, notary, solicitor, barrister et j’en passe ne correspondent pas avec exactitude au vocable français proposé par les dictionnaires. En l’occurrence, là encore la précision minutieuse est superflue : le lecteur n’a pas besoin d’un cours magistral sur les nuances terminologiques en matière de droit, ce détail ne porte pas à conséquence sur l’articulation du propos général. En revanche, il est indispensable d’indiquer un équivalent français permettant de saisir le fil du récit. N’étant pas très calée en la matière, après une promenade sur wikipedia, je me risque à formuler “notaire”. Les juristes sont cordialement invités à corriger.

(8) “Say howdy to George Carter, and thank him for taking the pistol from you when you were shooting at me.”

Allusion culturelle évidente en guise de pique finale avec risque élevé de confusion sans même s’y arrêter une seconde à cause de son ambiguïté : George Carter a-t-il arraché l’arme des mains du colonel Anderson pour l’empêcher de tirer sur Jourdon ? Ou George Carter a-t-il récupéré l’arme des mains du colonel Anderson pour tirer à son tour sur Jourdon ? Un peu d’histoire ne nuit à personne, surtout quand il s’agit de choisir les mots propres à restituer une bonne blague : George Carter, esclavagiste, gesticulait pour récupérer son cheptel d’esclaves fugitifs grâce à qui sa petite affaire tournait rond. Après la guerre, la main-d’œuvre bon marché sur laquelle se fondait amplement sa fortune ayant pris la poudre d’escampette, la ruine avala le monsieur (quelle tragédie hein?). Reste que je ne suis toujours pas certaine d’avoir pigé la vanne, même si je penche vers la solution n°2. Soyons sages et adoptons l’option de conserver ce flou (les zones de flou sont parfois volontaires, surtout dans les documents juridiques).

Dans le cadre d’un contrat, je signalerais à mon client les hésitations sur certains termes. Le sens normal d’honnêteté entre individus se juxtapose à l’anticipation : ce geste lui évitera de se sentir floué en cas de précision ou correction ultérieure. [Aparté : j'ai toujours trouvé d'un ridicule achevé ce principe enseigné aux aspirants-traducteurs au lycée puis à la fac : ne jamais laisser d'omission, quitte à écrire "n'importe quoi" (sic). En contexte de relations réelles, cette culture d'esbroufe laisserait augurer des instants animés avec la clientèle voire avec les juristes qui défendent la clientèle. Voilà, merci d'avoir survolé mes rouspétances].

Loisirs des traducteurs

Je n’ai guère rencontré de traducteurs écrasés par l’ennui. Hors travail et activités annexes de comptabilité, démarches commerciales et autres paperasses, ils ne restent pas le moins du monde embarrassés de leur personne. Comme la plupart des gens j’imagine, mes collègues ne manquent pas d’agréments bien mérités après leur labeur. Malgré certains mythes tenaces, ils ne raffolent pas des heures sup’ ars gratia artis – surtout que les commandes ne sont pas toujours exaltantes…

Cependant, un avantage très appréciable du métier réside dans l’accès à des ressources amusantes sinon instructives en langues étrangères, surtout quand notre idiome maternel n’en propose pas de restitution satisfaisante.  Tous les jours, je lis en anglais (moins souvent en italien) pour m’informer ou pour rire. Je ne traduis pas mentalement mes lectures : je les absorbe dans leur formulation d’origine, me régalant de la saveur propre à chaque langue dans ses subtilités.

Il arrive qu’au gré des butinages, un traducteur éprouve le coup de foudre pour un document, au point de souhaiter le partager tous azimuts. J’en viens à la situation où se trouve l’auteur (auteure, autrice, auteuse, peu importe) de ce blog. J’en profite pour proposer aux lecteurs (et lectrices, lecteures, lecteuses) une balade dans ma caboche quand je travaille. J’espère que cette étude de cas illustrera mieux qu’un assommant discours théorique les compétences et le temps nécessaires à une traduction ainsi que les hésitations inhérentes à ce métier. Quant à mes collègues, j’espère de leur part des commentaires pour m’améliorer.

Contexte :

Après la Guerre de Sécession, d’anciens maîtres ont cherché à récupérer leurs anciens esclaves, faisant miroiter des promesses de vie meilleure en cas de retour au bercail. Sir: (4) I got your letter and was glad to find you had not forgotten Jourdon, and that you wanted me to come back and live with you again, promising to do better for me than anybody else can. I have often felt uneasy about you. I thought the Yankees would have hung you long before this for harboring Rebs they found at your house. I suppose they never heard about your going to Col. Martin’s to kill the Union soldier that was left by his company in their stable. Although you shot at me twice before I left you, I did not want to hear of your being hurt, and am glad you are still living. It would do me good to go back to the dear old home again and see Miss Mary and Miss Martha (3) and Allen, Esther, Green, and Lee. Give my love to them all, and tell them I hope we will meet in the better world, if not in this. I would have gone back to see you all when I was working in the Nashville hospital, but one of the neighbors told me Henry intended to shoot me if he ever got a chance.

I want to know particularly what the good chance is you propose to give me. I am doing tolerably well here; I get $25 a month, with victuals and clothing; have a comfortable home for Mandy (the folks here call her Mrs. Anderson (3) ), and the children, Milly, Jane and Grundy, go to school and are learning well; the teacher says Grundy has a head for a preacher. They go to Sunday School, and Mandy and me attend church regularly (5). We are kindly treated; sometimes we overhear others saying, Them colored people were slaves down in Tennessee. The children feel hurt when they hear such remarks, but I tell them it was no disgrace in Tennessee to belong to Col. Anderson. Many darkies would have been proud, as I used to was, to call you master. Now, if you will write and say what wages you will give me, I will be better able to decide whether it would be to my advantage to move back again.

As to my freedom, which you say I can have, there is nothing to be gained on that score, as I got my free papers in 1864 from the Provost Marshal General of the Department of Nashville (6). Mandy says she would be afraid to go back without some proof that you are sincerely disposed to treat us justly and kindly—and we have concluded to test your sincerity by asking you to send us our wages for the time we served you. This will make us forget and forgive old scores, and rely on your justice and friendship in the future.

I served you faithfully for thirty-two years and Mandy twenty years. At $25 a month for me, and $2 a week for Mandy, our earnings would amount to $11,680. Add to this the interest for the time our wages has been kept back and deduct what you paid for our clothing and three doctor’s visits to me, and pulling a tooth for Mandy, and the balance will show what we are in justice entitled to. Please send the money by Adams Express, in care of V. Winters, esq, Dayton, Ohio (7). If you fail to pay us for faithful labors in the past we can have little faith in your promises in the future. We trust the good Maker has opened your eyes to the wrongs which you and your fathers have done to me and my fathers, in making us toil for you for generations without recompense. Here I draw my wages every Saturday night, but in Tennessee there was never any pay day for the Negroes any more than for the horses and cows. In answering this letter please state if there would be any safety for my Milly and Jane, who are now grown up and both good-looking girls. You know how it was with Matilda and Catherine. I would rather stay here and starve—and die if it comes to that—than have my girls brought to shame by the violence and wickedness of their young masters. You will also please state if there has been any schools opened for the colored children in your neighborhood. The great desire of my life now is to give my children an education, and have them form virtuous habits.

Deux bémols (on dit des bémaux?)

Deux paramètres majeurs altèrent ce travail par rapport à une prestation professionnelle :

1) Le temps. Normalement, en entreprise autant qu’en freelance, le donneur d’ouvrage fixe une échéance de livraison. Or, nul ne m’a commandé cette traduction : j’ai tout loisir de l’étudier à ma guise, selon mes horaires et les caprices de mon inspiration. (j’anticipe la question : non, je n’ai pas comptabilisé mes heures sur ce projet)

2) La relecture. N’importe quel étudiant le sait déjà : un œil extérieur décèle les erreurs et les maladresses que le rédacteur voit de trop près pour les remarquer. Dans le cas présent, je n’ai pas fait appel à un relecteur qualifié.

Des dictionnaires, pour quoi faire ?

Le document ne présente guère de difficultés en termes de compréhension. Néanmoins, mon métier consiste à restituer le mot juste dans le respect du style pour aboutir à une lecture agréable en français. Même lorsqu’un passage me semble limpide, je ne rechigne pas à farfouiller pour m’assurer du sens d’une expression, préciser la sémantique ou jongler entre les synonymes puis vérifier que le terme envisagé correspond bel et bien au sens anglais. Je ne traduis pas des mots ; je traduis le contenu des mots et leur interaction au sein du texte et avec la réalité.

Association d’idées : porté par sa vocation sacrée de transmettre la culture et l’art, le traducteur s’occupe de romans, poèmes et contes.

A vrai dire, dans le domaine de la traduction, le littéraire ressemble à ce qui émerge :

J’ajoute même que le littéraire n’est assurément pas le créneau le plus lucratif. Pour un seul Jean-François Ménard évoqué dans la presse, combien d’anonymes ? Tiens, sauriez-vous énoncer au débotté le nom du traducteur qui nous a transmis cette splendeur : Les Piliers de la Terre ?

En sus de la culture – sympathiques coutumes, légendes et produits tellement exotiques à arborer lors des mondanités – la langue reflète institutions, procédés de fabrication, écosystème, réalités sociales, système économique, spécialités industrielles, médecine, histoire… Sans oublier les correspondances professionnelles, même si 75% des cadres français affirment pratiquer une langue étrangère, voire plusieurs.

Dans l’ombre, à différents maillons de la chaîne, les acteurs de l’information diffusent ces savoirs et ces savoir-faire parmi spécialistes et profanes. Au fil des traductions, les échanges et nouveautés se tissent une place dans les mentalités, concepts et pratiques dont émergent de nouvelles approches dans la société les recevant. Après avoir été récolté, le concept mis en circulation à bon escient possède une valeur non seulement marchande mais également humaine. Pas forcément pacifique d’ailleurs : le conflit larvé ou ouvert, avec ses procédés de diplomatie, d’espionnage, de propagande et de développement technologique, recourt lui aussi aux experts des langues. [edit 4 mai] D’ailleurs, cette implication n’est pas sans danger…

A titre d’exemples :

Le Courrier International, HS d’octobre-novembre 2008 sur la santé, publie en pages 62-63 un article intitulé “les labos font leur marché“. L’auteur, Sylvie Lasserre, traite de la bioprospection (ou biopiraterie), à savoir l’opération menée par les laboratoires pharmaceutiques en chasse de nouvelles molécules – par exemple issues des végétaux. Ces géants visitent des peuples méconnus, leur soutirent leurs connaissances, puis s’en repartent formuler et vendre le médicament. Quant aux royalties versées aux peuples à l’origine de cette manne, la problématique semble demeurer un tantinet obscure. Je suppute, sans trop me risquer, que cette recherche présuppose des interprètes et autres linguistes aux connaissances pointues (chimie, pharmacie) – sans parler bien entendu de l’ensemble de la commercialisation ensuite : pubs, présentations et modes d’emploi vers les différents marchés.

Je pourrais également citer la barrière entre médecins et patients étrangers, ne pouvant communiquer que par le truchement d’un interprète. Au vu des enjeux humains et financiers, un professionnel qualifié et formé dans le domaine médical s’impose lors de ces entretiens. Pour les anglophones, le NY Times se penche sur les effets physiques et psychologiques de l’isolement linguistique chez les malades.

Enfin, entre traducteurs aussi, la circulation des savoirs, savoir-faire et idées engendre des progrès individuels et collectifs. Si, à l’ESIT, le prof de dernière année en traduction économique se montre pointu et précis dans sa spécialité, son attitude reste au moins aussi marquante : lui, l’expérimenté rompu à son art, ne cesse d’inviter son auditoire à formuler des suggestions. Puis il écoute, réfléchit et explique en quoi la proposition fonctionne ou non, sans hésiter à souligner la pertinence d’un propos de la part d’un étudiant plus jeune que lui de décennies de vie et de pratique. Je m’efforce de conserver à l’esprit cet exemple, non tant pour des raisons sentimentales que dans mon intérêt professionnel.
