OK, I don’t want to alarm any Canadian women out there, but did you know when you go into surgery for say a hysterectomy, it is common practice for a group of medical students to come into the operating theater and do an internal pelvic examination while you are still friggin in lala land? That’s a group of strangers tinkering in your “you know where!” Hell no, they don’t tell you before or after, it’s friggin standard procedure. OK, everyone else at ease, evidently in the US and Britain they have to have specific consent. However, back to them Canadians, evidently pelvic examination by trainees is “implicit.” OMG.

Psst I sense a few eyebrows being raised. OK, here, read the article for yourself GlobeLife.

The means of learning management system imparts the corporation with a lateral methodology to expand

The means of learning management system imparts the corporation with a lateral methodology to expand the forte of the employees and warrants perceptible concerns of individualistic conducts and procedures. A LMS is able to execute numerous tasks, executive decisions from arranging trainings, to tactical demands like scrutinizing any training flaws, supporting training sessions in compliance with commercial interests.

Almost all businesses exhaust many characteristics in trying to maintain a classroom setting in trying to offer the trainer and learner with variable options. Output can be increased with the help of a learning management system that can influence rising expenses and accomplish the set goals competently. E-learning modules can be obtained by the instructors and trainees the moment these training modules are in place.

Modernizing these performances is uncomplicated like financial allocation, employee sign ups, controlling appraisals, creating statements, etc. The ROI on training is effortlessly determined.
With the aid of a LMS, the workforce can chart their professional aspirations, and supervisors recognize the advancement on the basis of the employee assessments. This system allows flexible management of computing executives and administration expertise.

Analyzing this system permits the clientele to study the employees and impart skill sets accordingly, which also offers computerized official recognition for security protocols and administrative responsibilities. The workforce that receives obligatory training-tutorials and advancements to complete aptitudes is for a precise position.

The organization looks forward to the responses and opinions from their staff about efficacy of these programs. This facilitates better re-evaluation of the training outcome and indirectly affects productivity.

Huge business entities have many employees and numerous subdivisions; a LMS acknowledges the entire skill and categorizing expansion requirements. Authorization to sanction training appeals, observe the staff’s improvement, create reports to appreciate employee inclination and assess job related implementation to understand employees prerequisites.

Organizations lacking this system end up with extra funds being expended for these training needs and they’re incapable of making comprehensive reports and the statistics may be erroneous.

Summing up this system entails high end training modules that caters to supermarché needs for workforce training, organizing subject matter, lay a foundation for learning, revising modules to coordinate with performances and positions. The amount of time spent on these programs, trainer accessibility, training efficiency, planning courses, etc. aids the management. It becomes necessary for the administration to continue tracking employee guidance, arranging the finances for training other peripherals which are considered important for the smooth functioning of any organization and can be acquired with a LMS.

Realised that having went for that MYG Learning Day (talk on sexuality) someone should probably writ

Realised that having went for that MYG Learning Day (talk on sexuality) someone should probably write something on it also. It has been ages since I last wrote anything intelligent (actually, I’m not sure if I ever wrote intelligent stuff before, but nvm) so please bear with the language and all.

Another thing to take note of is this: the venue is the same school which I graduated from, in the very same classroom which i had a few modules. So you can imagine me sitting at a desk with someone giving a lesson in front, it’s REALLY like going back to class all over again. Therefore, the natural thing for me is to go into ’sleep mode’ about 30 secs in. Hence the lack of detail.

.

The first part of the lesson (the first 30 secs which I was still awake) talked about how our intellectualy disabled trainees ae also able to feel emotions and sexual desires and sometimes display actions that are not very appropriate.

We can relate to this part as even I already know and seen some trainees’ actions going out of line, despite my relatively short time here (and I’ve only taken care of grp C trainees, so rightly or wrongly, I’m using the grp C trainees’ functionality to represent the functionality of BK’s trainees as a whole). However that is almost all tt is relevant to us (read: and then I fell asleep).

========

The remainder of the session deals with higher functioning trainees, who are of a totally different nature from what we are used to dealing with. They are talking about trainees who are capable of having at least a functional conversation with you, trainees who are able to tell you that they are interested in someone in the opposite gender; who are able to listen to your reasoning that irresponsible sexual behavior is bad; who are able to surf the internet for porn and in one story, even get married.

It’s eye-opening for sure, but ultimately the ways to deal with the trainees (eg. teaching them the correct names for the various body parts, telling them about STDs) are generally not applicable to our project.

.

I mentioned that part about teaching traines the correct name for body parts ie. call te private body by its proper english name instead of slangs like ‘bird’ or whatever. Apparantly, one important reason is that should trainees themselves ever become victims of sexual hararessment, they can tell the police clearly exactly where they are violated. This takes up another core of the session: highr functioning trainees are more prone to falling victim to sexual criminals. A stranger can offer them simple things like a coke or a burger first and somehow lead them to bed next. This could be due to the trainees feeling obligated to return the favour of that burger or coke (and not knowing where to draw the line), or maybe the trainees just want to make new friends.

Strategies to solve this problem include teaching trainees about what appropriate actions are with different people. (You can ’shake hand’ with a ‘volunteer/teacher’, you can ‘high-five’ a ‘friend’, you can ‘hug’ your ‘parents’, you should ‘ignore’ ’strangers’ and NEVER, EVER allow ANYONE to touch you – except for ‘parents’)

=========

I may have simplified things a little too much here, but as you might be able to tell, I felt tt a lot of things are not relevant nor applicable to us. That being said, there are still some interesting things to learn. Like how in other countries, some parents take their ID son to patronise sex workers to satisfy the son’s urges. Or how professional working people in the weekdays gather together and provide sexual services to the IDs in the weekends. (damn, i feel gross just typing that last sentence. it is one thing to know that there are cultures vastly different from ours. it’s another thing entirely to know – and accept – how far these differences can be)

.

Another thing I am rather ashamed to admit is this. when i first joined BK, and someone was telling me that BK has the lower-functioning trainees, I remember thinking: “sian. that means more troublesome.” And over the sessions i do feel quite frustrated when i ask for simple things like “wash your plate”, “go for a walk” and i’m not sure if the trainees even understand what i say. Taking care of higher functioning trainees, I reckon, would have made the life of a volunteer so much easier.

Now i realise it’s not true. I learn that trainees with higher functionality just presents a more complex series of problems. I mean, the absolute most important question I can ask about the trainees I usually handle now is “do they know how to go to / use the toilet themselves?” That cannot be compared to, say, a higher functioning trainee coming and saying that he/she has been sexually violated or raped. Totally different nature. And this realisation would probably be the greatest take-away from this Learning Day.

-chenyang

PS. MAY edit and upload the PPT slides used for the session when able to find time

I think I overstressed my trainee today – she wasn’t bubbly and fun by the time she got

I think I overstressed my trainee today – she wasn’t bubbly and fun by the time she got to go home. In fact, she looked worn out and overwhelmed. Tomorrow will be a better day. I have never trained on this step and I suppose I’m expecting more from her than what I should. Tomorrow we will take it slower. My last trainee was almost to the shadow phase so pretty much knew everything and was comfortable handling stuff – I forget the one now has only been here four weeks…

I am exhausted too and ready to go to bed even though it means I’ll have to be up in six hours to get ready for work again. I’m not walking the dogs because it is raining – they aren’t happy about it but such is life. I should do more – exercise or something but I can barely keep my eyes open.

I am still depressed. I tried to pull myself out of it today but wasn’t able to, I think I still managed to fake it pretty well. I’m in a mild funk – that kind of quiet desperation that strikes me when things aren’t going well OR when I haven’t seen the sun in weeks. I’m still thinking that I might go to the tanning beds on Monday if the sun doesn’t shine by then.

Had a great time with my younger sister after work. She was up to do a bit of shopping and wasn’t planning on heading home until 10:30 or 11pm. I offered to let her spend the night with me but told her she’d have to be up at 5:30am so I could leave for work – or she would have to drop my key off at work before she left town as I only have one key. She opted to do some more shopping and drive home. I don’t like the idea of her being on the road this late but she couldn’t be deterred. I couldn’t stay out any later, I am exhausted and the dogs needed out.

We thought briefly of going to a movie but the one we wanted to see is no longer in the theaters so that was good – it saved us from ourselves because I really need to go to bed. She so rarely comes up that I wanted to spend more time with her but I just couldn’t. I’m thinking I’ll see about taking a Saturday off next month & go down to visit her.

Anyway, it is that time – absolutely hate the idea that I’ll feel like I barely went to sleep and it will be time to get up again… It isn’t so bad if I don’t have a trainee because I can spend the first couple hours resting my brain a bit but with a trainee we have to jump to it right away to make the most of our time.

Training ypourself out of a job Published: October 2004 The Bible compares life to running a race (1

Training ypourself out of a job

Published: October 2004

The Bible compares life to running a race (1 Cor. 9:24-27; 2 Tim. 4:7; Heb. 12:1). As the generations overlap and children are nurtured to adulthood, each generation is like a runner in a relay. Children are trained by their parents. After maturing, they become parents and train the next generation of children to maturity. Each generation needs to get the baton of maturity from the previous one and pass it on to the next one.

Three major stages (activities) in life are child (trainee), parent (trainer) and grandparent (mentor, or advisor). At each exchange in a relay, the new runner needs to get up to speed before receiving the baton, and the runner with the baton needs to hand it over at the right time. This illustration can be applied to many aspects of life, including families and Christianity. Let’s see what the Bible has to say on this subject.

Moses And Joshua
Moses, a great leader, led the Israelites out of captivity in Egypt, established them as a nation, and prepared them to enter Canaan. Two months after Israel’s exodus he appointed Joshua to lead the battle against the Amalekites (Ex. 17:8-15). Joshua had been Moses’ assistant since his youth (Num. 11:28) – a trainee with on-the-job training. Joshua became familiar with all that Moses did. They worked together. It is not surprising that God appointed Joshua to succeed Moses by leading the Israelites to capture and occupy Canaan (Num. 27:12-23).

It’s interesting to note Moses’ relationship with Joshua. First, after the defeat of the Amalekites, God told Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven” (Ex. 17:14 NIV). This event was recorded for Joshua’s benefit. He was reminded that he had been given the task of opposing the enemy and that God had given them a great victory. Before entering Canaan, Moses commanded Joshua to remember past victories and trust God for future ones (Dt. 3:21-22). Second, Moses was to “commission Joshua and encourage and strengthen him” for the task ahead (Dt. 3:28). This commissioning was observed by the nation that he was to lead (Dt. 31:7-8; 34:9).

Elijah And Elisha
Elijah was a Jewish prophet (800 BC) who prophesied against idolatry in Israel. God told Elijah that Elisha would succeed him as prophet (1 Ki. 19:16). No one is indispensable, and eventually we have to hand over our roles in life to others. Elisha then “set out to follow Elijah and became his attendant” (1 Ki. 19:21). Elijah and Elisha travelled together (2 Ki. 2:1-6). Before he was taken to heaven, Elijah was told by God to visit Bethel, Jericho and the Jordan. Each time, he asked Elisha to stay behind, but Elisha insisted, “I will not leave you.” He was a faithful trainee.

Jesus And The Apostles
Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God came to rescue people from their sins (Mk. 10:45). During His public ministry, He chose twelve men, “that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach” (Mk. 3:13-19). These men, called apostles, were trained while they were “with Him” and then sent out to preach – both while He was on earth and afterwards (Mk. 6:7-13; 16:15-16). They followed Jesus, heard His teachings, and witnessed His miracles as well as His life, death and resurrection (Mk. 6:1; Acts 1:21-22). Jesus said His relationship with the apostles was like that of family (Mt. 12:49-50). He explained the parables to them, but not to the people (Mt.13:10,36; Mk. 4:34). He told them about His future suffering, death and resurrection, but they didn’t understand until after the resurrection (Mt. 16:31; 20:17-18; Lk. 18:34; Jn. 2:22).

Paul And Timothy
Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles (non-Jews), took Timothy on missionary journeys (Acts 16:1-5). Timothy was a young man with a good reputation in the local church. He was one of Paul’s helpers, a “fellow worker” (Acts 19:22; Rom. 16:21; 1 Th. 3:2). Timothy served with Paul in spreading the Good News “as a son with his father” (Phil. 2:22). This is how he was trained to maturity. When Timothy had proven himself, Paul sent him out on his own, to strengthen the believers at Thessalonica who were experiencing trials and persecution (1 Th. 3:1-6). Paul sent him to minister in Corinth, recognizing that Timothy was “faithful in the Lord” and “in carrying on the work of the Lord” (1 Cor. 4:17; 16:10). Paul also sent him to Philippi because Timothy unselfishly took a real interest in their welfare (Phil. 2:19-22). Timothy was with Paul when he wrote his letters to the churches at Corinth, Philippi, Colosse and Thessalonica (2 Cor. 1:1; Phil. 1:1; Col. 1:1; 1 Th. 1:1; 2 Th. 1:1; Phile. 1). The Bible also contains two letters that Paul wrote to his trainee, Timothy.

Parents And Children
Parents have the task of training the next generation to adulthood. Solomon wrote, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it” (Prov. 22:6). Parents are responsible to develop each dependent child into a self-sufficient adult. This involves both training them and then releasing them (Eph. 6:1-4). Children should be trained to be adults, and when they reach adulthood they should be released from parental supervision and sent into the world.

Training is like helping the next runner get up to speed before receiving the baton of maturity. Parents have only about 18 years to train their children. During this period, children should be given increasing responsibility until they are ready for living as an adult. If the training is deficient, the next generation will not be prepared to run the race of life. And if the baton of maturity is not handed over, they will be hindered. Releasing is handing over the baton of maturity. It’s like Joshua being commissioned by Moses to lead the nation, like Elijah’s cloak being left for Elisha, and like the apostles and Timothy being sent to distant places. It’s like graduation, when the trainee is released to work without a trainer.

Parents should progressively release their children into the world outside the home. It begins when children go to school and learn to socialize with others and respect other authorities. Later, they go to work and learn to assume responsibility and support themselves. Children become more independent when they leave home, and when they marry (Gen 2:24; Mt. 19:5; Mk. 10:7; Eph. 5:31) and establish a new family.

When a child reaches adulthood, parents should give them independence so they can experience the consequences of choices and learn from experiences. They will never mature if their parents continue to protect them from these consequences. They also need to gain experience making their own decisions instead of having them made by their parents.

Now let’s look at the applications of these principles from the Old and New Testaments to the roles of trainees, trainers and mentors in the family and the Church. Trainees are young in the faith, trainers are mature in the faith, and mentors are retired from training to an advisory role.

Trainees
If we are trainees, are we willing to be like Joshua, Elisha, Timothy and the apostles? They served willingly and were eager to learn. Joshua obediently fought the enemy and courageously opposed the majority report when he spied out Canaan. The others left families and occupations to be with their trainers. Paul told Timothy, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity” (1 Tim. 4:12). This was written to Timothy when he was about 33 years old. He was to be a good example so as to avoid any criticism. Is our behavior worthy of the Lord we serve, or does it cause others to criticize Christians as being hypocrites?

Trainers
If we are trainers, are we willing to be like Moses and Paul? Are we training the next generation to maturity, or are we hindering their development? Are we looking for trainees? Moses and Paul saw the potential in Joshua and Timothy. All new Christians have potential. Do we see the potential in the next generation? Such potential is not realized unless it is developed. We need to help convert “potentials” into “actuals.” Like Moses, we need to give them tasks to do and help them develop their strengths. Like Jesus, we need to treat them as family members. Like Paul, we need to treat them as fellow workers. Are we willing to have others share in our work? Paul even included them as co-authors of the letters he wrote.

As the next generation matures are we releasing the baton so they can run their race? Are we handing over responsibilities? Are we training ourselves out of a job, so others can carry on when we are no longer able?

Mentors
Just because we’ve trained someone and handed over a responsibility, that doesn’t mean we can retire and do nothing. The Levites served in the tabernacle from 25 until they retired at 50. After retirement they could assist by mentoring: “At the age of fifty, they must retire from their regular service and work no longer. They may assist their brothers in performing their duties at the Tent of Meeting, but they themselves must not do the work” (Num. 8:24-26). If you have retired from service, are you now mentoring someone? Ideally each person in active service should have both a mentor who has already served, and a trainee who is preparing for service. Otherwise the baton of faith and service may be dropped. Let’s now apply these principles to evangelism and the local church.

In Evangelism
“Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of a hundred and ten. After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the Lord nor what He had done for Israel. Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals” (Jud. 2:8-11).See how the baton of faith was dropped between the generations. Parents had not taught and trained their children (Dt. 4:9-10; 6:1-7; 11:19; Ps. 78:3-7; 145:3-4).

On the other hand, Paul wrote about Timothy: “I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also” (2 Tim. 1:5). Here we see the Christian faith being passed through three generations. Like the apostles, it is our responsibility to preach the gospel to each generation and each community. This should be a high priority for each Christian and each local church.

In The Church
Paul also commanded Timothy: “The things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others” (2 Tim. 2:2). Here we see the truth being passed through four generations (Ps. 78:1-7). Paul had nearly finished his part of the race (2 Tim. 3:6). He had trained Timothy, who was to train the next generation, and these were to train the next. It is like four runners on a relay team. In this verse, I changed “men” to “people” because the Greek word is “anthropos,” which means “human being.” The same word occurs in “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man (people) of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17). Everyone in the local church should first be trainees and then trainers.

Biblically, the Church is to train the next generation and release them to serve. We need to identify spiritual gifts in the next generation and give them opportunities to develop and exercise these gifts. This means being willing to share responsibilities and not hold onto them selfishly. There should be trainees in each ministry. There should be a handing over of responsibilities to those trained. And there should be mentoring of the trainers. If this doesn’t happen, a local church will shrink as workers die.

Also, we need to work as teams and not as individuals. For example, Paul worked with teams of evangelists and helpers, not alone. This means having more than one person who can do a job. Paul’s list of helpers in Romans 16 is a good example of this.

Sustainable Families And Churches
Let’s pass the baton of faith and service to the next generation: by training our children to maturity and then releasing them to develop as adults; by spreading the faith to all generations; by training younger believers in service, partnering with them and then releasing them to further develop their gifts and take more responsibility; by supporting those in active service as a mentor when we get to the grandparent stage. This means that everyone will be involved in the many activities of the family and the local church as either a trainee, a trainer, or a mentor.

Hey Everyone! We here at SPP adore the Training Program, and we love everybody’s enthusiasm for it!

Hey Everyone!

We here at SPP adore the Training Program, and we love everybody’s enthusiasm for it! We know that it’s a great way for all of you to help your friends, receive great items and coins, and even make new friends in the process! The positive feedback that we constantly get about the Training Program has been amazing, so thank you!

The intention of the Training Program is to reward people for helping new friends with their pets. However, we have also found that some people have been taking unfair advantage of this program.

So we have a come up with a solution to make the SPP Community more balanced while keeping the fun of the Training Program for those of us who love it. In order to keep the Superpoke! Pets Community positive, fun, and friendly to all, we have decided to adjust the program rewards as follows:

Trainee badge will reward 250 coins
Trainee level 1 will reward 500 coins
Trainee level 3 will reward 1500 coins
Trainers can graduate a maximum of 30 trainees per month (Which should be enough for most trainers!)

I’m happy to say that the Training Program is here to stay so you can still help friends and meet new people! However, we must adjust the reward logic to address the gaming of the program by creating fake accounts in order to earn more coins to hoard items in the Pet Shop. Creating multiple accounts is against Facebook’s policy as well and has made it unfair for the rest of the Community.

While we are adjusting the rewards, we are going to be adding rewards to features we have now, and will have in the future. As a first step, we will be increasing the coin rewards you can receive from Gardening items!

The adjustments to the Training Program will be happening soon. We would love to hear your thoughts on this, so please feel free to share! Again, thank you so much for understanding, we are doing our best to keep this Community and SuperPoke! Pets the best Community out there.

So Christmas in Enkenbach. To say the least it was amazing. It was different and fun with new tradit

So Christmas in Enkenbach.

To say the least it was amazing. It was different and fun with new traditions, stories and laughs.

I decided to host another trainee get together over the holiday’s because I thought it would be great to spend them with people I liked and would have a lot of fun with. Also I knew that some people didn’t have anywhere to go for Christmas and I couldn’t just let that happen. So like Thanksoween I had about 6 people staying with me. But this time it was for 5 nights! My goodness did I have a lot of shopping to do. You see, during the holidays all the stores are closed by noon on the 24th till the 27th, and unfortunately this year the 27th fell on a Sunday when stores don’t open either. So I had to shop for up to 8 people for 4 days. Luckily it all worked out.

4 trainees showed up on the 23rd, one of them with a vehicle. It was a hoot to go shopping with all of them. Believe me 5 young, english speakers get a lot of stares in German grocery stores. So with the car laden with our goodies we began preparing for Christmas. We had a projector to watch movies on, we had board games, gluwein, lots of food, a Christmas tree and each other (aw). I was unfortunately on the brink of being sick so I had to go to be early the first two nights to avoid bedrest for the holidays.

The 24th was a pleasant day where we were able to sleep in, go for walks, make delicious food and hang out. We did a lot of just hanging out. At 4pm was the Christmas eve service that I participated in with the choir. It was so nice to have a Christmas eve service like at home. German’s don’t have as many Christmas songs as we do – or they just choose not to sing as wide a variety. But at least we get Stille Nacht with people who can sing in German. During the service another trainee joined our group to make us 6 for Christmas Eve. For dinner we had an appetizers night, a tradition of one of the trainees. We were treated to spinach dip, capris salad, roasted chestnuts and even sushi!

Christmas morning I headed to the morning church service whilst everyone else slept (again I went to bed early to avoid sickness and the rest stayed up to who knows when) This was also really nice to do as it’s something I’ve done my whole life. I’ve always loved going to chruch on Christmas morning so it was special to participate in some of my own traditions. By the time I came home everyone was up and we had a delicious Christmas brunch of pancakes, bacon and mimosas. Everyone who’s family sent them gifts open theirs and I got a HUGE surprise.

I told my family to not send me gifts this year as it’s just more things to have to move at the end of the year. But my mom doesn’t listen to me when I talk like that so I was sorta expecting something anyways. But when a letter came a week early wishing me a Merry Christmas from the family I believed that she actually heeded my words this year. BUT instead she sent my gifts to my Committee family to hold until Christmas day. They in turn got those to my Host family and then while I was at choir practice they got it up to my apartment and hid it in my broom closet. So Christmas morning I got a proper surprise with beautiful gifts from my family.

So then we celebrated Christmas by talking with another trainee over skype, a good walk, ugly sweaters and a feast. I attempted duck and succeeded and we had the usual fixings that come with Christmas dinner finished with a chocolate triffel. Then we had a fun little gift exchange and attempted to make eggnog. Not a good idea let me tell you – but I won’t actually say anything more.

Oh and I got to talk with my family on Skype for about 2 hours! It was really special to see them all sitting in my living room as always. I almost cried when I saw them but held it together and just remembered how lucky I was to be able to see and talk to them for free! I’m glad they’re all in good health and that Christmas went well for them too.

Saturday morning was another one to sleep in, take it easy. We started with scrambled eggs which was also kinda lunch. Then after the usual activities of a lazy day we went over to the Committee family’s house for an English hymn sing! It was so fun to sing out of the blue hymnal with four part harmony! (sorry for those who don’t understand my Mennonite terms) And we sang some non-Christmas hymns too, even some Easter ones. Then we stuck around for pizza and Apples to Apples. It was a great way to spend Boxing Day/Second Day of Christmas. They don’t do the Boxing Day thing here instead it’s just called second holiday-day.

Sunday was much the same except it concluded our Christmas celebrations. It was kinda sad, but at the same time I was a little ready to have my space back…and I’m going to see the trainees again for New Years so I dont’ have much to miss.

The last entry for now on work experience. It’s quite sad, but quite uplifting in a way too.

A LOVING daughter brought forward her wedding day and held the ceremony in her dying mother’s hospital ward so that she could witness it.

Cancer patient Liz Hay saw daughter Carol marry her fiancé Ian Murdoch in Ward Two at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. Just hours later she fell asleep and never woke again.

The couple’s wedding date was moved forward by a month to 24 November when Mrs Hay fell seriously ill so that she could be there for the happy occasion.

The 50-year-old from Muirhouse, who was the co-ordinator of the North West Carers’ Centre, was told in July that after beating breast cancer seven years ago the disease had returned, this time in her liver.

Her family were told she could survive for years but by the start of November she was taken into hospital with just weeks to live.

Carol Murdoch, a 27-year-old trainee teacher, said: “Just at the start of November, she was taken in and told she didn’t have a lot of time. We thought it was weeks, but a scan came back and suddenly we realised she had days.

“The ceremony was supposed to be at six o’clock but we brought it forward to three. She was that poorly.

“As soon as it was done, the nurses took her to another room. She went to sleep and didn’t wake up again.”

Mrs Hay died two days later.

The couple had originally planned to hold their Humanist wedding beside Loch Morlich last Saturday.

The hospital ceremony was attended by Mrs Hay’s two sons, two daughters and three grandchildren – the youngest only two months old.

Her husband Charlie, 55, praised the hospital staff who helped with the wedding arrangements.

“The nurses did it all so nicely. It was great. Liz was up the whole time and she did a wonderful reading,” he said.

Mrs Hay lived in Edinburgh nearly all her life. She was born in 1959 in Dreghorn Barracks and met her husband at the Edinburgh City Mission in 1979 while she was working at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.

In 1994 Mr Hay, a woodwork teacher, had to retire early when he was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Moving around was painful and he needed constant support.

His wife not only started caring for him but became involved with founding the North West Carers’ Centre, a charity which runs projects to support and train carers in Edinburgh.

Despite having to devote so much time to her own caring duties she was the charity’s chairwoman for more than ten years.

Liz Hay

She also commanded Loanhead Air Cadet Squadron, was chairwoman of the Silverknowes Primary School board, a leader in the Boys’ Brigade and a keen Aberdeen fan.

She had started building five doll’s houses before her death and youngest son Andrew, 20, a trainee technology teacher at Edinburgh University, has pledged to finish the project.

“She didn’t have a lot of time for hobbies,” said Mrs Murdoch. “But her and dad used to love going for drives all around Scotland. She loved it here.”

One of Mrs Hay’s last wishes was to raise money for good causes and instead of leaving flowers at her funeral on 3 December, guests donated to the staff who helped organise the wedding so they could have a Christmas night out.

The £1,000 they have already raised will also go to the Maggie’s cancer centre at the Western General Hospital.

Mrs Murdoch said: “Mum was always putting others first. That was mum. When she got told she had the cancer that wasn’t going to stop her.”

I don’t know whether it’s a blessing or not that in the blogworld, you can get away with defamation, misspellings, wild conspiracy theories and swearing (oof) just because nobody’s reading what you’re saying.

So I’ve officially been inducted into tram-world. It’s a depressing world, full of genuinely aggrieved people and a lot of knocking on doors in the snow. But what’s cheered me up through all this is the other side of tram-world. Namely: tram-related puns. They’re truly wonderful. Enjoy.

On the reality documentary ‘Art Of Seduction’ featuring MBLAQ aired on 4th November, Rain was seen being strict and giving advice to the group.

MBLAQ is a group produced by Rain, and they performed for the first time during Rain’s concert in Seoul on 9th October, they then had their debut stage on 15th October with the song ‘Oh Yeah’.

And during this documentary episode, it shows Rain and MBLAQ before and after these 2 performances. Rain said before his concert to the MBLAQ boys, “If you look at the ground, it means you have lost to me.” showing them encouragement for their first performance.

But after their first live performance on tv show, Rain made a 180 degrees change into a strict producer. After the performance he said, “I can’t even give 5 points out of 10 points for it”, “When I was watching it, I have many dissatisfaction”, “You don’t look like you are enjoying it but as if you were doing it as a chore”, “Others don’t know how I have taught you”, “Really really cannot make it” etc

With the reveal of Rain’s features as a strict producers, TV viewers commented, “He looks like a boss”, “Rain after all. Even his scary and strict features look cool” etc

By Reese Bagwell
January 12, 2010

It’s still cold but the sun is shining brightly and it’s a bit warmer. I did some presentations today for the benefit of the trainees and the interns as well as the Teaching Staff.

It is quite obvious that the youth in these classes are very motivated, very eager, very intelligent and perhaps more than a little overanxious. I am encouraged by the quality of the trainees. They are eager to please and impress. They are very thankful for this opportunity. The educational concentration (majors) of the vast majority are business related (finance, business admin., finance, etc.).

They all- to a person- are deeply interested in (a) travel and (b) care for their families and (3) American culture. The majority of them (about 2/3) view their education and future work here w/PBPO as a stepping stone to “bigger and better” vocational opportunities. Surprisingly (at least to me), a healthy minority of them (the remaining 1/3) view their opportunity at PBPO as a means to progress up through the vocational ranks of the company.

Tonight we went into Kunshan, just on the outskirts of Shanghai to one of the most unusual restaurants I have ever seen. The name of the establishment was Ali Baba’s Kabob Kunshan. I kid you not! It is a German style restaurant, with a truly international German, Greek and Chinese faire.

We ordered what essentially amounted to a sampler with vegetable Kabobs with schnitzel, lamb and chicken, with a Greek gyro each and a Chinese dish consisting of more vegetables, rice, and spicy beef and chicken. I think it was the most schizophrenic meal I’ve ever tasted but, amazingly enough it all managed to mesh in an internationally delicious way. Guess you’d have to be there…..er, here. I am invoking the preventative medicinal powers of some Zantac tonight, I’m sure!
