Hey! You there! I see you contemplating reading this blog, and it makes me smile, like this It cold,

Hey! You there!

I see you contemplating reading this blog, and it makes me smile, like this

It cold, windy, rainy, but the forecast is for an amazing day. In case you can’t tell that was a reference to how great my day is going to be. Not only am I going to ensure amazing quality of day by forcing smiles and optimism all over it, but circumstances are in my favor. For being at work for 10h I will be in meetings and supplementary training for about 6h. A 4h work day but having 10h of productivity? Sounds like a win to me.
Besides the great lineup at work, I am also only on my 4 day compressed work week schedule for one more week, then onto a regular 8-4 schedule which will allow much more weekday time with my amazing girlfriend. Bonus points for that.
My girlfriend and I have been going skating a few times each week lately and we are having a ball! I love it for my background, and she now has proper skates of her own and is learning at a quick pace. It’s great to be active and back on the ice so much.
It is gettin closer to the end of November every day, and that means getting closer to my own place! The new suite I’ll be living in is starting work very soon, and that means my very own personal sanctuary. Add another bonus point to the board.
With so much stuff going on, and so little time left on this sktrain ride (this blog brought to you by adam’s amazing iPhone) I’m going to wrap this up with a “have an awesome day” and a ” hope you leave a comment if you enjoyed reading:) “
All my best
Cheers
Adam

By Heru (H. Emmanuel Ofori-Atta)

Oh what a beautiful day it was when I threw away my t.v.
Or should I say Tell-Eye-Vision?
You see, I got tired of strangers telling me how I should look, feel, or listen.
I got tired of strangers showing me how other people are living,
and therefore how I should be living.
And by the way, what does watching a football game on t.v. have anything to do with
celebrating a so-called day of Thanksgiving, oops I was mistaken, I meant Thanks-taking.

Oh what a beautiful day it was when I threw away my t.v.
Or should I say Tell-Lie-Vision?
No more lies for me.
Mental sabotage I won’t be missing.
So many potentially great people are caught in a psychological prison.
Our minds are programmed by t.v. programs, we’re caught in a media prism.
And this box called t.v. has become oh-so popular.
So many Sisters are caught in soap operas.
So many Brothers living their lives like they’re in the next show of cops and robbers.
We even get our slang from this thing called t.v.
The police are now called Five-O, is this Hawaii?
So many people are just bored, lonely or just plain lazy.
You’re spending time with something that weakens your human development,
and you’re telling me that you ain’t crazy?
Imagine cuddling up with something close to your foe.
Instead of learning something that strengthens your community or humanity,
all you did in your lifetime was learn how to quickly turn from channel 7
to channel 5 to channel 4.
Outstanding, exquisite, you did it.
You’re out of sight.
Remember, every time you turn on your t.v.,
you are inviting people into your home who you would not normally invite: RuPaul?
Let me be more explicit,
if you cannot throw away your t.v. tonight,
you have no right to look down at a crack or heroin addict.
You see, your addiction is stronger because you’ve been practicing it much, much longer.

Now, let’s deal with those commercials that influence people to buy things they normally
would not buy and wear things they normally would not wear.
It all begins when a young child starts to stop-sit-and-stare.
It all begins when a young child starts to stop-sit-and-stare.
There goes one, there goes another, hook, line and sinker.
T.v., Tell-Lie-Vision does not prepare you to be an independent thinker.
Just like back in the day.
Just like back in the day when every one wanted to be cool like Fonzie.
Now, ’nuff people have become Puff Daddy zombies.

Oh what a beautiful day it was when I threw away my t.v.,
or should I say Tell-Eye-Vision?
Mental sabotage I won’t be missing.
By now you can tell that I am on a liberation mission.
So right out my window, I threw away my t.v. or should I say Tell-Lie-Vision?
But I bet the stray dogs can use that box for pissing.

So, yeah, I acted like a dick (pun intended) and who am I bullshitting? She was my type and it sucked being brushed off. Anyway, the city of Ottawa is really small so, I figured our paths would cross again sometime soon. My attitude during the evening had been unacceptable and I promised myself that, the next time we will meet, I would apologize.

As expected, I saw the girl at a party. She was sitting near the bar with a friend. I hesitated before going to talk to her. I wanted to buy her a drink, but I did not have enough money. I had a $ 20 note: this was not enough to pay three drinks (one for her, one for me and one for her girlfriend…). Note to all ladies: it’s all fine and dandy to hang out with your friends at a club, but you become unapproachable when you’re surrounded by your posse!

In spite of my financial woes, I took a deep breath and went in for the kill.
- You are not dancing today, I asked.

- No, I’m tired. In addition, the music is not good, she said with a smile, recognizing me. She turned on her stool to face me properly. Damn, she looked good and, hell yeah, I was on top of my game, as usual!

(Her friend must have caught on to the vibes: my game was tight, her friend was safe with me and she was quite obviously the 3rd wheel in this club; she promptly disappeared for most of the night. Cudos to all women who do not cock-block!)

- By the way, my name is Pascal-Olivier
- I know. I’m Betty.

Editor’s Note: At the time, I was quite popular in the city of Ottawa. Girls nicknamed me The French Boy, because of my accent.

In my opinion, there is nothing more horrible than hearing a French guy speaking English with a heavy accent. All my life, I tried to get rid of that damn accent. I wanted to sound like Nas, the New York rapper. Unfortunately, all my efforts were in vain: I could not pronounce words like Americans and it was frustrating.

I had no idea that my accent was my charm. Apparently, the girls thought it was “exotic.” Often, the Lord gives us blessings and we, poor fools, try to get rid of them.

That night, Betty and I exchanged phone numbers. I realized she was not only a sexy kitten but also a very intelligent girl. We didn’t dance at all, too busy talking to each other, telling stories and jokes, laughing, in spite of the loud music.

Amazing, ain’t it? We were both in the night club and instead of dancing, we were talking. She told me about her life. She was studying medicine, her dream was to become a pediatrician. I wasn’t saying much, except for the occasional smooth line and joke. I was just listening, looking at her with admiring eyes: there’s nothing sexier than a smart woman. Note to all women: if you have nothing between your ears, you will be nothing but a sex object for men.
Corny as it may sound, that evening, instead of having a woman over in bed, I got a friend in my life. The next day, I was so impatient to see her again. I took my phone and I called:
- What are you doing tomorrow night? We can go see a movie, I suggested.
- Excellent idea! It will do me good, I’m a little stressed out right now because of the exams, she said.

Now, here’s the truth: usually, when I invite a chick to the movies, it’s not because I am dying to see the film. For me, the cinema is an ambush. It is where I devour my prey. In the darkness, one sees my real nature. As soon as the daylight disappears, I transform into a werewolf. Without realizing it, the poor girl had fallen into my trap. MOUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Ahhh passwords. What a great idea. Protect my sensitive data, emails and other personal information with a special password that only I know. Of course, it seems as if we need passwords for nearly everything we do on our computers.

Many of us have fallen into the trap of using easily guessed passwords, and/or using the same password for multiple accounts. There are dangers in both of those scenarios.

Using a password that contains a word can be quickly and easily hacked with simple software programs that are easy to find on the internet. Even if you throw the required number or symbol on the front or back of the password does not make it that much harder for these programs to crack your password.

Using the same password for multiple accounts increases the risk of having one of your accounts compromised, and once they have that password, they may be able to access other accounts with it. This is especially true for email accounts.

It is likely that if a hacker was able to get into your email account, they could find other passwords and account information by searching your saved emails. How many times have you sent yourself an email with your account login name and password?

A good way to create a password that is easy to remember for you, but hard to crack is to use an acronym. Come up with a sentence that you would remember, like My kids love to play soccer. Now, turn that sentence into an acronym like this; Mykdsl2plyS0cr or Mikl0v2Ps0cer.

There are also several software programs that allow you to store passwords in a highly secure database, allowing you to only have to remember one password to access that program. A software program we recommend is Password Dragon (Free Download). This is an easy to use intuitive program for windows users. For Mac users, try PasswordVault Lite (Free Download).

Passwords can be a pain, and many of us may hate using them, but they are necessary to keep your ever increasing amount of personal information in cyberspace safe and secure.

inQuo.

Nov 17, 2009 A NATIONAL Environment support officer persistently wanted to meet the mother of an underaged smoker in private and even texted her for sex, a district court heard.

The complainant, a woman in her 40s, reported Koh Hui Chong to the authority and a trap was laid when he turned up at her flat on May 6 last year.

The 43-year-old admitted to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau officers he had contacted the woman with the intention of having sex with her. He even brought along three condoms.

He had hoped that if the complainant had sex with him, he would then not take any form of action against her teenage son for smoking and littering.

The court heard that Koh had caught the woman’s 15-year-old son and another boy smoking in a prohibited area at a playground in Serangoon Central earlier on April 28. He obtained the boy’s details from his EZ-Link card and told him he would be booked for underaged smoking and other offences.

Koh, who pleaded guilty to trying to get sexual favours from the boy’s mother, is expected to be sentenced on Dec 1. He faces a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a jail term of up to five years.

A few days ago I posted in the middle of the night how I was being kept awake by a mouse in the walls. Set out some traps, wait for it to come in and bang–catch a mouse. The traps are still sitting there. We don’t have a mouse. I think we have a chipmunk. The thing is driving me mad. Every night it does more damage. Every night I try to scare it away. Every night I get no closer to figuring out how to get rid of it.

There are plenty of ways to catch a chipmunk, some lethal, some more pacifistic. The problem is that I do not know where to set any trap at this point. It isn’t coming into the house yet, thank the mammalian goddesses, but I also can’t find where it is traveling in and out of the walls. I naively filled in one tunnel early in the invasion. It hasn’t touched that spot since. Now I can’t find any tunnel. The spot it seemed to have gotten into the house has offered no signs of animal travel lately. It has another route in and out.

Rat traps, Haveaheart traps, hot pepper, whatever, I am willing to try it at this point, but where to place any such device or deterrent? That is the question. My plan at this point is to get some traps and just set them out and about near where I thought it was getting in. Maybe I will get lucky. That will tomorrow’s task. Too late tonight. Maybe by filling in its tunnel it is trying to find a new way out by tunneling in the wall. I don’t know. If I set out traps and they offer nothing, maybe I will unclog the original tunnel and set the traps there.

In any case, this critter needs to go. And soon. Chipmunks are cute, but I am willing to resort to violence if necessary. I would prefer I find a way to simply get it out and keep it out, but that may prove fruitless. Stay tuned for more reports from the front lines.

When I first started in system administration, I asked a colleague who was talking about SNMP what the ETLA* stood for.

His response: Simply Not My Problem.

SNMP – The Simple Network Management Protocol, is something that a lot of people get hung up over in relation to NetWorker. There’s usually two complaints:

Why do I have to pay for SNMP integration?

Where’s the MIBs?

The first question is more easily answered after answering the second; there are no MIBs (well, no official MIBs) for NetWorker. NetWorker doesn’t support being controlled by SNMP; instead, its SNMP “module” simply supports sending SNMP traps – broadcasts onto the network.

So now we return to the first question – why do I have to pay for SNMP integration?

The short answer is you don’t. I wouldn’t. If I were back to being a regular system administrator and someone walked in with a quote for NetWorker and included the SNMP module in it, I’d grab the quote and draw a big red line through it as being a complete waste of money.

Why pay for being able to send SNMP traps when there are free tools available for practically every operating system that allow you to do just that?

As to whether you should get hung up about NetWorker not natively supporting SNMP traps without any additional licensing – honestly, it’s not worth getting worked up about. NetWorker has a very extensible notification system where you can assign any action (read: executable with any command line actions) to practically any event within the system. With that much flexibility you can whack a free SNMP utility on the system and go to town.

It’s been a while since I just showed some outfit concoctions- amongst the reviewing, social bemoaning, and a storm of updates, simple ensemble entries got left by the wayside. As matters have died down and I’m trying to prune my 99,000+ inventory, I pulled on these outfits that I had in folders for a while. Both have elements of punk and goth in them – hence the PunkGoth/GothPunk title. With the first set, I actually managed to find a skin that matched the character on the tee and built from there with rich reds and blacks. The second one began with the tutu and a need to do something with all that skin while keeping things fitted. Personally, I think this set-up with the fishnets makes my legs look a mile long.

There are plenty of cockroaches here in Uganda. At night when I go to the jacks, I open the door and shine the torch in. I catch a glimpse of a few black things scuttling away into the dark corners. But I’m relaxed as I take my slash as they don’t attack humans… OR SO I THOUGHT!!!!

A loud scuttly buzzing sound wakes me up in the middle of the night. It’s pitch black and I can’t see a thing. I listen to the buzzing scratching sound to try to pinpoint where it is and calculate it’s size and species, daredevil style. I can’t tell if it’s inside or outside my mosquito net, but it’s definitely close. It sounds too heavy to be a mosquito so I’m not too worried about malaria. Maybe it’s a moth in distress or something. It has probably caught it’s leg or wing in the net somehow. I don’t mind moths, so I try and go back to sleep. After a few minutes the buzzing and scuttling seems to be getting closer. I’m having a hard time trying to get some sleep, so I think about maybe getting up and grabbing a container of some sort to trap it and throw it out. It’s also starting to freak me out a bit because it no longer sounds like a moth. I can hear a hard shell and scuttly legs. So I’m lying there when suddenly a horrible heavy hard leggy wingy thing lands on my temple just by my ear and I JUMP LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER OUT OF THE BED, scrambling through the mosquito net as if I was trapped in a cobweb. I’m rubbing my hands all over my head trying to get the thing off but there doesn’t seem to be anything there. I turn on the light, and I can still hear the scuttling and buzzing. The fecker is there beside my pillow… moving around… a big dirty cockroach. I grab a little lunchbox and move stealthily towards my bed, begging the filthy cockroach not to go hiding under my blankets or down the back of my bed… he seems to be relaxing a bit, he’s just scuttling his legs around.

BAM! I cover him with the lunchbox and I can see him jumping and flying around inside. I slip a piece of paper underneath and place him on the floor and just watch the horrible thing being a big dirty cockroach in my lunchbox. I check my phone, it’s like 3am. The doors in the house are solid metal and they make an awful clatter when they open, I don’t want to wake everybody while throwing the roach out, so I decide to leave him at the other side of the room until morning.

I walk back towards bed and look at my bag on the floor. It’s wide open, exposed to the elements, exposed to the cockroaches. I don’t know if I was hallucinating out of tiredness or what, but I was sure I could hear more scuttling in my bag… I got back into bed, hoping that I was only hearing things, but at the same time making a personal note to smash every pocket and sock with a thick book before putting them on in future. I tuck the mosquito net into the sides of my bed and then check around with a torch for any stowaways. All clear. I head to sleep to the sound of scuttling. Hopefully that’s just the guy in the lunchbox.

Schlumberger announced an agreement with Rock Deformation Research Ltd. (RDR) to provide the RDR str

Schlumberger announced an agreement with Rock Deformation Research Ltd. (RDR) to provide the RDR structural analysis module within the Petrel* seismic-to-simulation workflow. RDR is a structural geology consultancy focusing on research associated with deformation and fluid flow in the subsurface.

“This is the first Ocean* partner plug-in to be released as a module with Petrel. The RDR plug-in, combined with the wealth of prospect assessment and uncertainty analysis capabilities in Petrel, provides unmatched power to reduce risks associated with exploration,” said Olivier Peyret, VP Software Products, Schlumberger Information Solutions (SIS). “This new module demonstrates the strength of the growing community of Ocean developers who continue to expand the Petrel model-centric workflow.”

The new RDR module enables comprehensive analysis of seal and trap, two of the key risks in an exploration play or prospect. Together with the PetroMod Petroleum Systems module’s source, migration and seal analysis capability, Petrel now gives explorationists a unique environment to reduce all the key risks associated with exploration.

“We are pleased to bring high-quality intuitive structural analysis capabilities to the global market within Petrel. This will enable geoscientists and engineers to quickly build structurally sound models in the world’s leading reservoir modeling package,” said Steve Freeman, technical director, RDR. “We also found the Ocean platform to be an extremely productive development environment.”

In addition to enhancing fault seal and structural analysis, the new module includes fault juxtaposition and property mapping capabilities, such as permeability prediction, clay mixing and smearing algorithms – critical tools for development and production environments. This further extends the Petrel workflow to model faults correctly and characterize reservoir compartmentalization to achieve an accurate history match and predict reservoir performance correctly.

This module will be available for Petrel 2010 and will be exclusively sold and supported by SIS.

Sitting ankle-deep in the last twenty-four hours of a week that will not be easily forgotten. Waitin

Sitting ankle-deep in the last twenty-four hours of a week that will not be easily forgotten. Waiting for little claws to scratch holes in the side of my brain… little feet to scurry across my consciousness.. waiting for a noise, anything, something…. just to make it alright.. because this week was bleak and no amount of Bon Jovi up loud on a weekday “morning” (late Afternoon) while in a dressing-gown eating coco-pops moons and stars is going to fix it. He is out there somewhere… beneath a leaf… very wet.. squeaking curses and looking round for options… im just waiting.

The week started just like any other – with a Monday Morning. I was riding a freshly rolled wave of rediscovery – I had once again found myself listening to the tried and tested power ballads of Bon Jovi, and for the first time in a long time there was no amount of shame or secrecy to come with it… It seemed i was “old” enough now have no shame… yet “young” enough to realise.

It was a reading week: for some this means a chance to catch up on work, get an essay done and get ready for any tests to come, for others it’s a holiday, a mid-term, a reason to go out get drunk and forget everything to do with college. For me it was simply a disaster. I wanted to do the work, get the essay written, read that book… but instead i was waking up with the moon and sleeping at sunrise… playing internet games and watching shit movies… shit SHHIT movies (Saints and Soldiers – watch at your own peril).

And so the week kept to the usual 7 day routine, by the time I found myself watching re-runs of Top Gear and inspecting the lint that had collected in my belly button, the week had decided that it would suddenly be Friday morning. The previous few days had not really come to much, and the period between Monday and this most fateful moment in the earliest hours of Friday can be summed up in very few words; sleep, broke, Bon Jovi, Dressing-gown, Top Gear…and… broke. This mid-semester melt-down I guess was to be expected, and I knew I had fallen into it’s vicious circle by the time i was huffing and puffing at football on Tuesday night. It was clear i wasn’t far from a complete shut down.

…….

The first scratches went by unnoticed… i now wonder what it was like before i was fully accustomed to the noise, before I would stop still and prick my ears at any hint of a noise between the walls. It was only after a few minutes of this weird clicking underneath the hall floor that i decided to investigate…. when the reality dawned that little creatures were now living below the floors i was fairly amused and content to say the least. At least i was happy i wasn’t going mad, my mother could hear it too. A mouse, “just” a mouse. It was nothing to get too bothered about, it would scuttle along downstairs… staying warm over the winter and then leave and everyone will be happy.. right?

I was happy with that thought, it was only as i was settling down for another late mornings nothingness that it dawned on me that my relationship with this mouse was going to be far more personal. The blur of this tiny creature making a break for my bedroom door and then retreating back beneath my bed was enough to freak the living shit out of me. The fucker had invaded my room, had broken that unspoken barrier and infiltrated my sanctuary and made me feel like an alien in my own world.. the little hairy fecker.

At first i didn’t want to kill him. My first sights of the thing, and his tiny thumping body was enough to tell me that he was freaking out as much as me. He had found himself trapped in this awful position and had no way out, some big human shining a torch in his eyes, surely he’ll just let him get on with things ad harmony would be restored…surely!

And as i shone the light in his beady little eye i devised a cunning plan to trap him and let him go. Blocking up the gap beneath the bed with any clothes i could find i cut off his options.

Checking my watch- the hands were pushing 3.30am – and this was supposed to be an early night, an attempt at salvaging the end of a long unproductive week – god damn! This little fucker is messing everything up!

I was in a weird state of limbo - Every moment i took my eyes off it i was afraid he had run off somewhere… into one of his little holes.. there were times in that room that i had no idea what i was doing… sitting completely still waiting to hear him do something…wondering how i had found myself in this position; bent over on my floor with a torch shining from between my teeth, jamming pairs of pants beneath the bed and moving furniture to give me the best possible access to the it… I looked around.. after 4am now… the room a mess, a weird silence in the house.. trying not to wake anyone up… but determined not to lose this opportunity to sort out our “mouse situation” in the most humane fashion. I had reached new lows.

My attempted capture had failed.. he had run off with my cheese and was happy to eat it in front of me, safe in knowledge that i was unable to do anything to stop him. I was insulted, hate boiling up in me… pure.. tired hate… i despised this creature who was stealing my sanity. I wanted to suck him up in a Hoover and burn the bag… i was happy to do anything that would remove this thing from my existence.

I could hear noises again.. something strange was happening this night and the mouse was only the beginning of it. The scratches on the walls ere getting into my head… i was begging for sleep and peace.. I imagined the mouse population was plotting against me.. and then the lights went.

At first i thought it was just my room, as if the mouse secret police were about to come crashing through the windows and fill the room with tear gas, apprehend me crimes against the mouse population. Yet i noticed a lack of any light… not even from the street, and it wasn’t long before I found myself struggling to see anything at all… the world had stopped breathing.. and every light had been extinguished for as far as i could see (which wasn’t very far at all). I naturally dived for the camera and began documenting this most incredible event – as far as i was considered i was the only thing on earth, buildings and whole civilisation had simply disappeared right in front of my eyes. Faint car noises and head lamps plunged through this fresh darkness… struggling to find their feet, moving daintily through the black. Above me the earth was reunited with the universe. For the first time i could remember the stars extended from the darkest point in the centre of the sky right to the horizon where the city would usually burn away the darkness. Yet at this moment as i sat silent in my open window the world was truly asleep.. and space bled into our atmosphere and we were silent, we were now moving around a sun… we were now finding our way beneath a universe of suns, me the mouse… we were all in the same boat and simply reduced to animals with our senses.

At this point the opportunist photographer in me had struck gold – i was clicking madly, finding new ways of seeing the world around me – i was fuckin’ extatic. The mouse hunter side of my persona however had failed – Failed Royally!

By the time the world had coughed and chugged back to life… it’s first breaths spewing light back out into the universe the mouse had dissappeared. I once again felt trapped… violated. I stood still – very still. Barely breathing… listening hard – very hard – the sort of listening that reveals a low ringing and makes you woried that all that loud Bon Jovi was some day going to turn me fully deaf.

And then i heard it, that scratching.. he was in the wardrobe.

My mother was awake by now and the light had allowed me to read my watch…. 6am. I was truly convinced that my life had hit rock bottom. Not only was i once again at the end of a long pointless day bumming around the house, i was now trying desperately to corner an animal that was proving to be both far faster and more intelligent than me. At this point i was in no mood to compromise, disturbing the little critter from his hiding place I jetisoned the contents of my wardrobe in his direction as he darted around my room. Books, pants, bags and lamp shades all flew in his general direction. It was futile, and even when he dived to scramble past the clothing barrier under the bed my attempts and pumling the tiny turd through the clothes was to no avail. He was simply to fast for a run down insomniac like myself. returning to his familiar position beneath the bed, i lay motionless on my side on the bedroom floor, torch in hand, one eye closed so as too peer accurately through the small gap beneath the bed. We were conversing with our eyes, like two boxers in our corners during a fight. I had respect for him now, it was not going to finish this way… and the 7 and half hours of this Friday had gotten the better of me. I blocked up the rest of the gaps and made for the couch.. Round one to the mouse.

The next morning he was gone, however traps had been bought – he would be back. My twittering had gathered a crowd on the internet.. other than the reality of the situation that i had truly gone absolutely bonkers there was a debate as to what to do with the “poor little thing”. I had expressed my intention to kill and some agreed while others believed he deserved a chance. At this point I can’t honestly say that i knew what i wanted to do… all i wanted was my life back on track and this miniscule mop of hair was between me and normality… it was him or my sanity.

So the traps were set and I went on with my life. Though part of me knew he wouldn’t be back.. he knew that my room was no place for both mice and men. Yet as i lay awake on Saturday morning (because Saturdays come after Fridays I believe) at 4.30am, i could hear him scratching at the wall and moving from place to place. Getting on with his life i suppose, he probably didn’t even like it here, it was dusty and old… and the humans played awfull 80’s rock up way to loud while he tried to sleep! But he had probably decided it was best to stay rather than brave the cold and find somewhere better. And now he was only out of an attack from a hairy human.. and probably petrified to do anything. As i lay there i wondered what i would do If he did hit a trap.. would he die? Would he be stuck but alive? Would I care?

Saturday happened, and eventhough I ventured from my home this time i still felt it was yet another wasted collection of minutes and seconds. And only a short two hours ago I was slipping into bed at the early hour of 1am… an attempt to do what i had failed to do the night the mouse arrived. Just before bed I had consulted Yahoo to see what is the best bait for a mouse. It said peanut butter, I read sticky sugery spread and within minutes marmelade was applied to a mouse trap. This time though i decided to put it in the hotpress, the place where i thought the mouse had first made it out from the wall and into the “human” space. I left it down and closed the door.

Lying in my bed, i sort of knew i wasnt going to get to sleep very easily. I was half listening for a noise.. half thinking about our chances against France in the second leg of our World Cup qualifier… thinking about music…about what i could be doing if i wasn’t in bed… about how i was never going to wake up at 9am even thought the alarm was set…

Snap!

I was suddenly focused on one thought. Holy Fuck i got him. I was deadly still, I didnt know what i was waiting for, i didn’t know what to expect… a noise? There was nothing, and i didnt even hear him walking around… I eventually rolled out of bed and threw on some clothes..

I cracked open the hot press door. My eyes adjusted to the light, on the floor i could see the trap had snapped and lay upside down… a small trail of marmelade led to some blood… and the blood led to a small hairy mouse. He lay on his side, a small smatter of blood was behind his back. He was dead.

I closed the door and announced the news to my mother before going to get a bag and some kitchen roll to mop it up. The second i heard the snap i had felt both regret and relief… and as i opened the door I wondered if it needed to come to this.

It didnt occur to me at first that the mouse was now standing upright.. but eventually as i moved my hand closer i realised that he was alive.. he wasnt moving, and there was clearly a bit of blood on his back but he was definitely alive. I moved my hand in never the less, hoping at least to release him into the wild somewhere far away. Yet as i moved in he revealed he could run, and at the last moment he over came his initial shock and scuttled drunkenly past my feet and back into my room.. behind my shelves and then into the corner.

My mother had joined me at this stage, and we closed in on the petrified prisoner. It was either my slow reactions or my lack of conviction that allowed him beneath my bed once again. And so we found ourselves back to this familiar setting.. in our corners.. ready for round 2. But this time things were different. He was injured.. ready to be knocked out.. suffering and in pain… wonering how he had found himself in this mess… I was left with no choice but to move in for a final punch.. finish it before it is all drawn out.. and with a jab of a metal pole I thought i had finished things.

Yet still he stood!

At this point i had only admiration, if not a bit of frustration too. And eventually my mother and I trapped him under an upturned waste paper basket.. we had him now.. and my mother decided we should drown him.

I found this a little strange yet more so that she should do it with a hose… surely you would need to submerge a mouse rather than simply sprey him.. yet sprey she did… and as i expected he was wet… but not drowned…

If anything it had made things worse! He was now bleeding… stabbed.. wet and cold… and trapped.. he was still alive though and Icould see he had not been injured as bad as i thought, i think i missed him with the metal pole (missed by accident… or on purpose… well thats a subconscious thing…). But he was truly a broken mouse by now..

I convinced my mother to bring us out in the car at 3 am to let him free far enough away from the house so that he would not return on his own. It was only as she was backing the car, extremely slowly, out of the drive that i realised she wasnt 100% up to the task, and as we eventually moved up the road.. me in the passanger seat with basket/canvas (we used to canvas to block off the end of the basket) and the mouse within… my mother revealed she had a full bottle of wine working away at her liver!

So there we were… my mother, the mouse and I driving drunk through a residential area.. and it occured to me that perhaps we should have just killed the mouse instead of killing us all! But we kept going.. the mouse wasnt moving so much now, i hoped it was because of fear.. but we rounded to the far side of the block and i exited the car… lifted the bin and lightly threw the mouse free into a bunch of leaves… he sniffed a little but didn’t move.. I expected him to scamper away as fast as possible.. but instead he slowley limped towards the leaves… he was wet, injured and bleeding, probably hungry, and now out in the cold with no shelter. I quickly realised that I was essentially killing him very slowly, and instead of simply doing one or the other, caught between two minds i had reduced his existance to nothing with the intent to kill but not the conviction.

And so hear i am wondering if it will return, and if it does will i be relieved or annoyed? Will I accept it in my room or simply trap him again and this time kill it and kill it good.

I expect to hear the noises anyway, there must be more of them here. And there probably will be more in the future.

And here I am at the arse end of the week, with nothing to show for it except a half dead mouse and a hotpress that smells like marmelade.. I feel guilty but happy… relieved but sorry… satisfied but empty.

I wiped the blood up from the floorboards where the trap was sprung. It had dried in already… i had to scrub hard. Then i wiped my hands clean… and tried to get it out of my head.

Perhaps this will finish it up.. get it down in writing.. and let history swallow it up. Yet i cant help feel that this event will resonate a little… pop its bloody head up every so often..

And the clock ticks 5.30 and here i am… burning into a 7th day of nothing.. waiting for a Monday morning, because thats how the week always starts.. wishing i was still in bed! And all those good intentions to sort it all out, wake up early and fall asleep before midnight like all the normal people with burn up in the sun…

”the best layed plans of mice and men often go awry”

YUP! Used the same image episode from episode 1 for episode 6, whatever, I’m liking it even though there are tons of other images out now for Kämpfer. You may be wondering why I went from reviewing episode 1 to just skipping ahead to 6, right? well… I dunno really, didn’t think too many episodes in this series were worth reviewing, going over, very much like Railgun sadly which I thought would be awesome but is turning into a complete flop(I don’t know what else to say…) The screenshots taken from the Sweet Lovely anime blog~! as usual…

Mikoto jumps off the building she’s standing on and attacks Natsuru. She destroys a water tank sending all of the water spewing out, Mikoto after finished her first attack says that during her worldwide travels she’s practiced her fighting skills.

SUMMARY

At the start of the episode our main charcater Natsuru begins to daydream about kissing Sakura(the lesbian), and having some sort of romantic moment, while hes really kissing Shizuku, but he wakes up and it turns out to be a dream. While he’s up(bullying his little tiger messenger)he smells curry coming from his kitchen. He looks outside and a girl is suddenly knocking on his room’s door.He turns around and finds his childhood friend ,Mikoto, who has made breakfast for him…

and is naked, well except for an apron, HADAKA APRON!!!XD

Natsuru asks how she got here in the first place but Mikoto completely ignores his question and just mentions that she has now returned. And shementions that she came about 2 days ago,she didn’t see Natsuru at school so she decided to come to his house. But Natsuru asks how she actually got inside his house, she picked the lock, its essential for any archeologist…

Censorship…

And Natsuru tells her to do something about her clothes since they’re”embarassing”

Mikoto thought Natsuru would like this.

Natsuru has had enough so he takes off his shirt, and then Mikoto’s apron falls to the floor. And the scene cuts off to Mikoto and Natsuru who are both waiting for a bus.Mikoto begins to talk to Natsuru as Akane stands behind a light pole and watches the two talk in jealousy. UH-OH…

Mikoto notices Akane glaring at them and Akane walks over to the two of them.Mikoto “introduces” herself to Akane, but when Natsuru tells Mikoto Akane’s name they both realize they know each other, they used to live in the neighborhood and were also good friends. However Mikoto mentions that her and Natsuru have been friends since they were little(which in the harem world puts her ahead of Akane…), and that they ate breakfast together this morning, leaving Akane shocked.

So Akane really does like(want) Natsuru.

Akane says that she doesn’t fell good and heads off to school by herself. Mikoto asks Natsuru is Akanes girlfriend which he of course tells her no, and then she asks if she’s the girlfriend of the female Natsuru(LOL). Mikoto asks Natsuru next if he still has a crush on Sakura(the lesbian), but like most boys his age when he gets asked that question, he says “mind your own buissness. Mikoto begins to confront(?) Natsuru but his Kämpfer bracelet being to glow and he runs off before he can transform in his female form. But Mikoto looks inside of a bag she has, it turns out she’s got a messenger(like Natsuru’s, Akane’s, Shizuka’s) inside of it.

Natsuru while in “his” female form arrives to school and finds a group of “his” followers, who are all girls… Natsuru asks the group of girls what’s going on, they grab “her” shoulders. It turns out that it is the second day of the cultural festival, and Natsuru’s class is doing a maid cafe, which involves “her” dressing up as well.

And it turns out that “her” costume has the shortest skirt…

There are no guys in the cafe, it turns out that the only people lusting(and looking) at Natsuru are the girls… and it turns out that from the previous beauty contest that Natsuru-san is the most popular of all the girls. Natsuru goes to serve the first person and it turns out that it’s one of his friends(so there was A guy).

The guy eventually leaves after drinking the “coffee” and the VIP guest madam(Shizuku) arrives. Shizuku is here to see her maid, and it turns out that she paid the other girls running the cafe just to see Natsuru.

Shizuku takes a seat and Natsuru recommends that she order the “coffee”, but one of the other maids arrives with black tea instead.Natsuru tells shizuku to just take her time, but Shizuku insists that Natsuru sit down next to her. While sitting down Shizuku tells Natsuru that the new Kämpfer will be arriving soon(wonder who that could be…). Shizuku interrupts Natsuru and another person arrives to see Natsuru, Sakura(the lesbian).

Click for a larger image of them wearing their maid costumes~! sorry can’t find a swimsuit one, but I’ll make one soon!

Outside the cafe there is a LONG line where people are waiting JUST to see Natsuru,Shizuku, and Sakura sit together…since they are the 3 “beauties” of the school.

Sakura-san begins to compliment everything Natsuru-san does, acting like a complete suck-up. Sakura tells Natsuru that she’s perfect and she asks Shizuku if she agrees. Shizuku says she looks perfect, but would look even better in a magican’s costume or something. Shizuku begins to mention things that would make Natsuru-san cooler, mainly things that she already has and is already able to do, teasing/hinting at Natsuru’s abitlities.Shizuku tells Sakura to comand Natsuru to do anything she wants her to, since Natsuru is a maid. Sakura thinks hard about what she wants Natsuru to do, and Shizuku insists that Sakura command Natsuru to kiss her.Sakura say she’s fines with a kiss, that is if Natsuru is. Sakura get’s ready to kiss, but Natsuru asks if it’s okay if they did something else.

Sakura(happily) decides that instead of a kiss the two could go out together for the rest of the day.

They go out(for the day) and enjoy the festival. One of Sakura’s friends across the room calls her over and Sakura goes off to say hi to her. While waiting for Sakura Natsuru notices a girl looking at her from across the hall. Sakura comes back out and wants to go into a haunted house attraction that’s open at the festival. When they enter the “haunted house” they find that it’s pretty dark inside, scared, Sakura grabs Natsuru’s hand and tells her not to let go. While they’re looking around a tool or something comes out of nowhere almost hitting Sakura, however she doesn’t notice. more objects come flying out of nowhere and Natsuru manages to dodge them all. Natsuru attack the person who’s throwing things at the two knocking the person out for a while, as the person falls Natsuru notices that the person is a Kämpfer and has a red bracelet instead of blue(blue means it’s an ally while red indicates an enemy). The person runs away and Natsuru leaves Sakura alone in the haunted house. While chasing the “person” they jump out of a window and Natsuru follows behind. it turns out that the Kämpfer is actually Mikoto (*GASP*) and has now figured out that (female) Natsuru is a Kämpfer (I’m assuming Mikoto doesn’t know Female and Male Natsuru are the person).

Natsuru tries to tell her to not fight, but Mikoto tells her to just ,SHUT-UP! and MIkoto says that she Never like her in the first place and want’s her to die(that’s cruel…). While she begins her second attack Mikoto says the Natsuru is full of herself, having all of the boys and girls fall in love with her, even Natsuru(male). Right when she splits a tree that Natsuru is in front of in half Akane (comes to the rescue~!) saves Natsuru before it’s too late. Akane points her gun at Mikoto ready to shoot and say that “I’m the only one allowed to kill this stupid faggot!” which leads to Mikoto comenting on Akanes foul mouth(after Akane called her bitch and a fuck…), and then Akane says (about her language) that it’s not as ugly as (Mikoto’s) your face! The two begin to fight and Natsuru interrupts them by shooting fire in the middle of their battle. Shizuku shows up and traps Mikoto using her chains. She shows Mikoto her red bracelet and Mikoto asks if they’re supposed to be allies.

Shizuku tells both Natsuru and Akane to both transform back, and Akane says… “Damn. Fuck you, you snobby-ass bitch!(LOL). but Natsuru is confused and doesn’t knowhow to transform back. Natsuru yells at her bracelet to change back, it glows, and there goes…his male form…in a maid costume…(change back please!!!!)

Shocked,Mikoto faints.

It’s the end of the day and Mikoto brings out her Messenger dog-like-thing, Choking Stray Dog (whose voice by Mamiko Noto oddly…)who introduces itself. And Akane comments on the Messenger’s voice saying it’s “Soothing, Just like Mamiko Noto’s”… Shizuku mentions that Natsuru has forgotten something.

Natsuru begins to apologize to Sakura, who is upset that Natsuru let go of her hand(yuri~!). Natsuru says that “she’ll” make up for it, and will do anything Sakura wants her to. So Sakura says that she wants Natsuru to come over to her house.

THOUGHTS

So it seems as though there trying to get back to the main story, as opposed to episodes 3-5 which focused mostly on yuri, especially episode 3. The story in this series though is a bit of a problem as it seems to move to fast or rush through things. The first two episodes seemed so rushed in terms of story, two new Kämpfers are shown in those episodes, and there a fights in both. I wish it would take some more time explaining and going through things as opposed to rushing. And things are getting to be a bit to predictable at this point. They kept mentioning another Kämpfer over and over in this episode and it was very obvious who would end up being, Mikoto. Mainly since they’d already foreshadowed it in the end of the last episode or so and the start of this episode. And it seems as thought tha fanservice at the start wa just thrown in to try and get people to buy DVDS or something, a marketing strategy(?), and they didn’t really give Mikoto a proper introduction in my opinion(Similar to Nmph’s in Sora no Otoshimono)and just rushed her intro to get to the fanservice. However if there’s one thing that’s saving the show (for me) it’s female Natsuru, and Akane’s dirty mouth(hence why I threw in some of her lines). And the humor isn’t good her either, it’s just cheap references to seiyuu which most of the time aren’t even funny, like the one in this episode, but there are some funny moments, just not laugh out louds.

And speaking of a decline in quality, the art sure is jumping around in terms of its quality, one episode it looks fine, next it looks like crap, this episode looked OKAY, but it seems as though the next one will be the next crap one. And the battles aren’t getting any better either, they’re just stale, nothing really going on but a bunch of talking, and the animation really isn’t helping out much either.

The series was enjoyable at the start but now it’s quality(if it had any to start with) is declining, almost to the point where there is almost nothing good about it. And the fanservice, what fanservice? if there was just a slight bit more fanservice it would all be good, but sadly it’s not, however there’s plenty of yuri to be found here, just not all that fanservicey.

Was there anything really good about this episode? hmmm not really, nothing but Akanes foul mouth really. As for the story, there’s nothing for me to talk about here honestly.

So not too good of an episode really, I’ll probably continue to watch, and hopefully things get better, which seems unlikely, it’s very mixed here…

I’m curious about the manga, so I think I may give it a try. But I sure do hope the new Negima chapter is out by now…

NEXT EPISODE PREVIEW

OH! Whod’ve thought, the next episode has even more yuri.

I found a nice lady on a nice farm to take my feral rooster. With the coop empty, I set the trap up

I found a nice lady on a nice farm to take my feral rooster. With the coop empty, I set the trap up again.

The very next day, I had a second rooster trapped. He spent one night with us, then went to the farm to join his brother.

And this morning, Byrd trapped a feral hen in the coop. This is not the momma hen of the roosters; this is the roosters’ sister. She is a smooth tan color, very pretty.

We are going to try and integrate the hen into our flock. We made this decision in part because the momma hen and the third rooster were still in our yard this morning, and we needed the trap cleared quickly so we could try to catch them, too. So we dumped the feral hen into our chicken coop.

So far, she’s scared, and the other hens are doing a bit of pecking as they reinforce the idea that she’s the lowest chicken on the totem pole. But they haven’t really fought or anything. I think it will work out.

Unfortunately, the process of catching and moving the feral hen into our coop was noisy and chaotic, so the remaining rooster and hen ran off and haven’t come back yet. No worries, it’s only a matter of time. So far we’ve caught a chicken every single day that the trap is open.

Now I have to come up with yet another chicken sound to name this chicken. So far we have used: Peepers, Squawkers (deceased), Cluckers (deceased), Cackle, and Bawk Bawk. (The oddballs are Miss Red and Crooksie.)

A favorite trap of wrathful gods, the slaughter nimbus is a dim, barbed halo of energy that hovers above the brow of sneering idols. More than mere ward, the slaughter nimbus acts also as a locus for the zealotry of a god’s devotees, fueling the radiant flames that scorch intruders and infidels alike.

Slaughter Nimbus

Level 13 Solo Blaster | XP 3,200

Trap

A crimson halo rings the head of a deific bust, exploding into radiant flame when a guardian monster is wounded.

Perception

DC 16: The character notices the nimbus.

Additional Skill: Religion

DC 28: The character recognizes the nature of the trap.

Trigger

When a non-minion guardian creature (determined by the DM) within 10 squares of the slaughter nimbus is bloodied, the trap attacks.

Attack

Immediate Reaction Close burst 25
Targets: One, two, or three creatures in burst
Attack: +18 vs. Will
Hit: Ongoing 2 fire and radiant damage per creature in burst (save ends). The slaughter nimbus trap does not need line of effect to creatures in the burst for the purpose of calculating ongoing damage. Aftereffect: The target is stunned (save ends).
Miss: Ongoing 1 fire and radiant damage per creature in burst and within line of effect (save ends).
Effect: The slaughter nimbus trap is disabled for 24 hours. In addition, allies in the trap’s area of effect gain a +2 power bonus to damage rolls until the end of their next turn.

Countermeasures

- An adjacent character can dispel the slaughter nimbus trap with a DC 28 Religion or DC 32 Thievery check.

Godwrought Slaughter Nimbus

Level 33 Solo Blaster | XP 124,000

Trap

A nimbus of flame swirls around the head of a statue carved by gods, the soul energy binding it threatening to explode outward at the slightest transgression.

Perception

DC 31: The character notices the nimbus.

Additional Skill: Religion

DC 40: The character recognizes the nature of the trap.

Trigger

When a non-minion guardian creature (determined by the DM) within 10 squares of the godwrought slaughter nimbus is bloodied, the trap attacks.

Attack

Immediate Reaction Close burst 100
Targets: Up to six creatures in burst
Attack: +38 vs. Will
Hit: Ongoing 2 fire and radiant damage per creature in burst (save ends). The slaughter nimbus trap does not need line of effect to creatures in the burst for the purpose of calculating ongoing damage. Aftereffect: The target is stunned (save ends).
Miss: Ongoing 1 fire and radiant damage per creature in burst and within line of effect (save ends).
Effect: The godwrought slaughter nimbus trap is disabled for 24 hours. In addition, allies in the trap’s area of effect gain a +5 power bonus to damage rolls until the end of their next turn.

Countermeasures

- An adjacent character can dispel the godwrought slaughter nimbus trap with a DC 45 Religion or DC 48 Thievery check.

Encounter Uses

- Placing several minions within the trap’s range is an effective way to maximize the damage dealt. Because the slaughter nimbus can count creatures outside of its line of effect, a clever DM might use the trap to foreshadow a nearby warren of creatures.

One AM. Our nocturnal guest is back. It has chewed right through the wall for the second time. I plastered up the hole it chewed last night, but I guess I started that project too late in the day and it was wet enough for our friend to smooge through. Persistent little bastard.

I bought a couple traps a week ago and set them outside, on the outside of the wall in which our tiny mammalian guest has decided to be so industrious. How can you not catch a mouse when you leave a trap outside? But I didn’t. One of the traps disappeared. I never found it. I’m thinking it became a couch in the new pad. But that’s just speculation.

These traps are called “the better mousetrap.” I bought them on the recommendation of a fellow hardware store patron who said “Those work really well.” Better mouse trap? Better at what? Causing frustration? Offering free meals to rodents? They don’t stay open, which is a good feature once a mouse has been caught, but not such a good feature before then. I moved the remaining trap inside, next to the new hole in the wall, and propped it open with a rock. I am not hopeful.

Lying in bed, typing on my iPod, I can hear something downstairs, but it might just be my imaginaton. Tomorrow I am going to get some standard mousetraps. And plug the hole again. And hopefully get a better night’s sleep.
