Pour ceux qui ne l’auraient pas encore découvert, notamment sur Facebook, Traveler IQ Challenge est un petit jeu en flash qui calcule votre QI sur la géographie, pour savoir à quel niveau de connaissances vous vous situez.

Le but est simple, on vous demande de situer telle ville ou tel monument célèbre du monde, et vous devez vous approcher au plus près du point exact de ce lieu, en visant avec la souris sur une map monde… Grossomodo, c’est un peu comme si vous jouiez aux fléchettes.
Plus vous êtes proches de la cible, plus vous marquez de points. Dans le même cas, plus vous êtes rapides à répondre et plus vous marquez de points. Au final, 12 niveaux de difficulté croissante vous sont proposés, à vous de passer au suivant à chaque fois.

Pour finir, vous pouvez faire ce jeu sur d’autres thèmes par la suite, comme l’Europe, les monuments classés au patrimoine de l’UNESCO, les drapeaux, etc…

TravelPod was pleased to accept the award for Excellence in Social Media Applications at the Canadian New Media Awards in Toronto on Tuesday.

This year was the first time an award was given out in this category. Its purpose is to reward a website that “demonstrates excellence is connecting a community of users through a variety of different tools and functions”.

Thanks to the hard working selection committee, the judges and everyone who participated in the event.

Foreclosures hit another record high in August. According to CNN Money, 304,000 homes were in default and 91,000 families lost their houses. More than 770,000 homes have been repossessed by lenders since August 2007, when the credit crunch took hold. The numbers are staggering. While the worst hit area has been California, no state is immune to the crisis.

If you’ve ever wondered how widespread the problem is in North Texas, the Dallas Morning News recently launched an interactive foreclosures map. On a brighter note, here’s a different map that provides hours and hours of fun. It tests how well you know your geography, so not only is it fun, it’s educational. The Traveler IQ Challenge lists certain locations across the world, and you have to find that location on a map. The faster the better because part of your score is based on how quickly you can pinpoint the location.

Via le forum de PostCrossing, j’ai découvert un petit jeu ( en anglais mais qui se comprend très bien si on le parle pas ) pour les adaptes de géographie, voyages, …

C’est un jeu qui tourne autour du carte du monde ( ou d’Europe, d’Amérique, d’Asie, etc .. ).
Le jeu vous demande de localiser un lieu où vous devez placer un drapeau rouge ( la machine corrige en mettant un drapeau vert, histoire d’apprendre un peu en même temps quand même :-p ). Vous marquez des points, il y a différents niveaux à passer, …
Ça vous dit même de combien de kilomètres vous vous êtes trompés ( au mieux, je suis tombée à 6 kms de la réalité ^_^)

J’ai testé le “World Capitals”, où il fallait placer le drapeau des capitales demandés sur une carte. Pas toujours facile quand on vous demande de placer la capitale de la Grenade sur une carte de la mer des Antilles ^^
Mon score : 111

Puis j’ai fais le ” USA Challenge” mais j’ai perdu au 1er essai car certains noms de lieux m’étaient inconnus. Genre situer sur une carte des USA ” West Point” ou des stades de base ball, c’est quand meme sportif ^^ C’est un peu comme si on demandait à un japonais de situer la Beaujoire ^^
J’ai retenté une seconde fois, j’ai passé la série des lieux mais j’ai buté sur la localisation de villes comme Brownsville, Tulsa, Spokane, .. ( et d’autres que j’arrive même pas à orthographier ^^ )
Mon score : entre 100 et 109

Je me suis aussi essayée au ” Photos of the World” où une petite image ( sites naturels, monuments, skylines, … ) et il faut plaisir le drapeau de sa localisation sur la carte du monde… Et bien, sportif aussi car un monument aux morts, bah, ça peut se situer partout surtout quand c’est aussi représentatif d’un pays qu’un bloc carré noir ^^
Mon score : 107

Les drapeaux du monde c’est vraiment hardos, surtout que je suis tombée sur une série Moyen Orient / Asie alors les drapeaux du d’Afghanistan, d’Oman et de Taïwan, on les croise pas tous les jours …
Mon score : 96

Comme c’est quand même rigolo, je me suis risquée à la ” Amazing race”. J’ai eu une série sur les drapeaux ( encore des bien compliqués du fin fond de l’Asie ) et 4 séries sur des villes à situer sur la carte du monde
