For a relatively austere sport, there are all kinds of fun toys you can pick up. This week I invest

For a relatively austere sport, there are all kinds of fun toys you can pick up. This week I invested heavily in winter running gear–I’d like to make it through the 10k with all my digits. I also wouldn’t mind finishing–I’m worried that if the weather gets too awful, I’ll walk out. The first time I ran in the rain, that’s exactly what happened.

So, the new equipement is:

-fancy new running gloves that convert moisture into heat.
-thermal headband–I was worried it would soak up sweat and work against me, but so far it’s been surprisingly awesome.
-moisture-wicking jacket, with thumbholes at the bottom of the sleeves. (For whatever reason, I am drawn to pink running outfits. In real life, I almost never wear pink, but have this crazy desire to dress like Runner Barbie. Go figure.)
-a cold-weather, moisture-wicking, long sleeve shirt that I can’t find the link for. In any case, warmer than my normal long-sleeve running shirt.

I’m hoping this’ll be enough–but not too much–for the 10k. I’m going to wear sweats over all that walking to and from the race, and leave them with the bag check people. Running in the summer was logistically a lot easier.

In terms of distance preparation, I think I’m there. On Friday, I ran 5.5 miles, and once again felt surprisingly good through the first 5. The last half-mile wasn’t even too bad, especially considering there was a 45-degree hill for a small part of it. I think the plan for today is a 2-mile hill/running in the cold training run. Running the 5.5 felt good–I was beginning to worry that magically hitting 5 last week was a fluke. I’d never felt that good running for that long. But it couldn’t have been that much of a fluke.

I think for the next big run (which I suppose will be the 10k), I’m going to bring a protein bar with me for immediately after the race. After 5.5, J made a comment that I really needed to eat something, and I had no idea what he was talking about until ten seconds later, when I felt all dizzy. Especially considering I have to theoretically drive home after this thing, having some food on hand is probably smart. Maybe one protein bar on me and one in the car. Hmm. I will think on this.

Yesterday I once again let my daily mile/equivalent slack. I’m hoping that once class is offi

Yesterday I once again let my daily mile/equivalent slack. I’m hoping that once class is officially over (as opposed to mostly over), it’ll get easier. I tells ya, running 1 mile per day is tougher than it sounds. To me, at least.

Today is my planned medium-sized run before the long run this weekend. I’m planning for a 5k, so as not to push myself too much, so I can really bust out later. When I was training for the 5k, my Wednesday runs were about half of whatever I was doing during the training. So, extrapolating that model to now…3.1 miles today.

I still haven’t officially signed up for the Christmas 10k. It started getting colder, and I’m beginning to wonder how good an idea this really was. On the other hand, I have weird issues with treadmills. I get ankle cramps a lot more readily on them, my feet get numb occasionally, I run slower on treadmills than in real life (which makes no sense to me), and that big ole STOP button is right there in my face the whole time. Not to mention that hill training is a lot harder when you control the incline (for me, “a lot harder” = non-existent). So in a perfect world, I would run outside during the winter as much as possible. But I start to, and then think “But…chilly.”

We signed up for a lottery to enter a spring 10 mile race as a pacing race for the half marathon. I’m really hoping we get in. But we’ll see. If that doesn’t work out, I’m sure there will be others.

My own pet peeves: people getting on the treadmill right next to me when there are twelve other treadmills available. People not wiping down the treadmill when they are finished. People talking to me when I obviously have enough reading material to have taken down part of a small forest. And most of all, people getting on the treadmill that I have claimed as my own.

I have been doing a lot of video editing which means that i have been sitting down a lot and because

I have been doing a lot of video editing which means that i have been sitting down a lot and because i am OCD i dont take enough breaks and when i do i want to eat like a pig and then quickly get back to making more movies. i have a new approach that i am going to start implementing, which i will get to later. I realized recently that all of my clothes have gotten tighter, uncomfortably tight. One day i was sitting at my computer and i thought i should really put on a different pair of pants because my jeans were squashing my belly up into this “sharpe dog mold” that was then getting pressed into my belt. It was a scary moment for me when i realized that these were my baggy jeans and that my tight jeans are just hardly un-walkable. This means that i am getting in shape again, that my fingers are no longer going to be the only ones bench pressing and looking stronger than my biceps. Tonight was great. Going to the gym, i hate it. in the middle of working out i sometimes love it. when it is over i am flying. I got to feel my ass from the inside not just from it rubbing up on my jeans, that sounds dirty but not what i intended. I could feel my ass muscles not just the flab. So today i am weighing in at 134.5 which is about 15 – 20 pounds heavier than usual. I dont really care how much i weigh but care more about how i feel. I love feeling strong and flexible and that is all i am striving for. I am not into dieting. Just toning it up. I want to have the best body that i have ever had in this lifetime over the period of this next year. I could always wait until i am 70 to get in the best shape that i have ever been in but i would prefer to be in it now while i can fully utilize it. So i am going to hand out fitness secrets that i am making up as i go along and you can copy them if they sound good to you and if they end up working for me. Today i did 30 minutes on that treadmill looking thing that has bars so you can pretend like you are skiing. I strive to get at least 10 minutes a mile so by the time i am done i have doe about 3 miles and i usually get half a mile in on the cool down. sometimes i just make myself go as hard as i can for the last 15 seconds of every minute or every other minute, this seems to keep the momentum up. Then i did 35 pull-ups and dips with the gravitron set on 70. I would like to be able to do a real pull-up sometime in this lifetime. the last time i could do it i was in 3rd grade and i was one of the best in my grade. 3rd grade has come and gone long ago and fortunately i dont weigh 50 pounds anymore or whatever weight 3rd graders happen to weigh. I wish someone would have told me in 3rd grade to keep doing pull ups because if you wait until you are nearly 100 pounds heavier its going to take a long time before that happens. i hope to be lifting my own weight in at leas 6 months. I also did a lot of abs working out too. Alright. Time to clean the kitchen, or just go to sleep

I’m having a hard time getting out the door lately. It’s not that I don’t want to, and it’s not that I don’t have a plan. I’ve hammered out how bridge from a Couch to 5k program to a half marathon training plan, and I’m excited about it. I just can’t find the bloomin’ time! And that is frustrating.

With the weather getting cold and it raining for what seems like a week, I can’t just hop out the door, run for 25 minutes and be done. I wasn’t stretching when I did that (which was bad) but I was getting out (which was good). With it being dark and my subdivision being a construction zone, it makes for a run that is at best creepy and at worst dangerous. Which means I’m relegated to the gym… which usually means at least an hour commitment, and that’s tough right now.

Last night I thought I would spend some time with the Wii Fit Plus instead of going to the gym… and I still spent over an hour to get a workout that wasn’t quite what I need. The good news is that I got some movement in!

Soooo… I’m discouraged. Time and sunlight are low. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get some mileage when it’s o-dark-thirty (either AM or PM after work, hah!) I’d love to hear how you work around that wintery stuff. Maybe I need to be told “suck it up and go?” How do you change your running when time is short and so is daylight?

(the real intention of this blog is to direct those who are planning to buy elliptical trainers to an honest and preferred Amazon Affiliate Elliptical trainers page. Read through the buying guide article)

Treadmill for sale

So you have decided to buy a treadmill for your own use at home and give yourself all the privacy. Having decided, you’ve got to be a bit watchful when buying from places which are running treadmill for sale campaigns. There are quite a few places you can buy them online, from reputed, exclusive treadmill stores but telling a genuine store from a phishy one is difficult considering the level to which the spooky websites stoop down and the kind of money involved.
Tips to buy from treadmill for sale websites
Here are a few simple but essential checks to make sure of guaranteed best deal on a treadmill of your choice.
1. The checkout page, that’s the page where you enter your payment information (credit card number etc) must be 128 bits encrypted. When a page is 128 bit encrypted, its protocol will be “https://” instead of the normal “http://”. That “s” which follows the normal “http” stands for “secured” and any page, whose URL starts with https://, will certainly not redirect to a spooky company and your money safely reaches the merchant you intended to pay, guaranteed.
2. Pages secured to receive payments are certified by government (FTC) licensed agencies Thawte and Verisign and you can view their page security certificate by clicking on the “lock” icon found on the extreme right of your browser’s address bar. Your browser is designed to automatically display the lock icon at two places, one at the address bar and at the bottom most right corner of your browser. Click on any of these icons to view the page’s certificate, at’s validity periods, digital signatures etc.
3. The same rules hold good for genuine affiliate sellers too however in most cases, they have they let you checkout from their venders’ pages. For example, all of Amazon’s affiliates link you to Amazon’s checkout page after you have chosen your treadmill.

The biggest advantage of buying treadmills at a sale is that of varieties and price ranges unlike in a normal sale store. If you act smart and are not in a hurry, often you will find a discount deal and eventually turn out to pick the best treadmill on sale.
Treadmill for sale – Advantages
If you have been procrastinating over the decision to buy a treadmill or going to a gym for a long time for a variety of reasons, buying from a “treadmill for sale” campaign is for you. With them you can turn the opportunity in your favor by doing the due diligence and eventually bending the cost and time factors to your advantage. One visit to a treadmill for sale website changes your notions permanently, irrespective of your purchase budget is. You may ask me why should you not buy from a neighborhood store, but remember, you will have to cope up with the nosy salesman and the follow-up calls you get from them almost everyday. Unless you like the air conditioned ambience and the free coke, there is practically no reason why you should not buy from the comfort of your home with a few clicks.

You can buy or browse more treadmills at treadmill for sale

HealthGenie Stores for tradmills at http://www.healthgenie.org/treadmill-for-sale.php has a unique distinction of being the leading Amazon associate over the short two years. Each treadmill for sale there is in stock so that you don’t waste time anymore waiting for your order to arrive at your door. Your order is processed and shipped on the next day of placing the order

If you still do not know what a treadmill is, I am seriously going to bang my head against the wall now. There are a few types of treadmills available, these are the electric treadmills and the non electric ones. Simply put, electric treadmills run on electricity, but non electric ones do not! If you are looking for a high tech gizmo, then the answer is definitely the electric treadmill.

Price: $999

Hello Readers,

In my treadmill buying guide five mistakes you will make buying a treadmill I told you to shop in a good neighborhood. Well, I’m going to introduce you to one of the better treadmill brands out there right now, Sole Fitness. Today I’ll be writing up a full review of the Sole F63 Treadmill. Soul Fitness is known for designing some of the more comfortable consumer grade treadmills on the market. Sole’s reputation for designing and manufacturing high-quality treadmills is so pristine Hilton Hotels has made Sole it’s only treadmill supplier for its entire chain of upscale hotels. Back when I worked at a treadmill retailer the salesman would mention the Sole-Hilton connection to sell treadmills. Let’s get on to my review of the Sole F63 Treadmill.

The Sole F63 Treadmill keeps up with most other treadmills in the thousand dollar price range. The Sole F63 Treadmill has a 20″ x 55″ running area. You will be hard-pressed to find a treadmill that ships your home for $1000 with a larger running area. I’m sure they exist somewhere, perhaps in Imagination Land, but I personally have not come across any. The Sole F63 Treadmill has a top speed of 10 MPH and is propelled by a 2.5 HP motor. Once again, the Sole F63 Treadmill matches everyone else in its class. I do think it is worth mentioning that the Sole F63 Treadmill has a 15% incline which is significantly more incline then a few other treadmills that retail for a $1000.

This treadmill does outshine many of its competitors in one category, comfort. I really wish there was a way I could let you all try out the treadmills I review, but I suppose you’ll just have to take my word for it that this is one of the more comfortable treadmills I have ever used in all my years in the fitness equipment industry. I can easily see why Hilton Hotels would want to partner up exclusively with Sole Fitness. Put simply, the Sole F63 Treadmill is comfortable.

I also want to mention some of the cool features this treadmill has. For instance, you can hook up your iPod to built-in speakers and not have to wear earbuds or headphones. This is especially useful for people like me with very sensitive ears! The console is very intuitive. There are dedicated speed, incline, and program buttons which makes it easy to adjust the workout or switch to a new fitness program. I really wish every treadmill had dedicated program, incline, and speed controls. It makes a treadmill much more user-friendly!

There is only one drawback to the Sole F63 Treadmill. As comfortable and easy to use this treadmill is it is only backed by a one-year labor warranty. A couple years ago this would have sufficed. However, Smooth Fitness offers a full 2 year labor warranty on the Smooth 5.45 Treadmill. I really would like to see Sole match Smooth’s labor warranty.

I’m sure if you bought this treadmill and took it home and never read my review you would be very happy with your purchase. Sole Fitness makes one of the best treadmills out there. The specs are in line with just about every other treadmills that retails for $1000 and comes with plenty of cool features like fans and iPod compatibility. However, this treadmill is beaten, if ever so slightly by the Smooth 5.45 Treadmill. You’ll be happy if you buy this treadmill, but I recommend giving the Smooth 5.45 Treadmill a look first.

Looking for a cheap treadmill but don’t have the money to stretch all the way up to an electric model? Well you best option may be to get a manual treadmill for little more than the price of a meal at a good restaurant. By that I mean you can find one for between $100 to $200, not a price tag that will scare even those of us who as on a real tight budget.

It true that a non electric treadmill isn’t going to live up to the standards of the more expensive models which work under their own steam, but beggars can’t be choosers and it will certainly be better than nothing.

If times are tough at the moment then picking one of these could be the difference between getting fit and remaining in your current state of ill health. I started off with a manual treadmill myself and to be honest couldn’t go back to one now no matter what the circumstances, I’d rather run outside in the rain. But, if you need to get started why not buy one to tide you over until you get a little more money or find a bargain electric device on the second hand market?

Today it was almost 70 degrees in upstate New York. Considering it was snowing last week, I was one happy girl! I even did a couple minutes of sprinting outside… in shorts! Unheard of in October.

The hunger monster decided to come out of hiding today. Don’t worry, I took care of him. He has now retreated to back under my bed.

Lunch: Tribe Roasted Garlic Hummus, craisins, spinach, mushrooms, Laughing Cow Swiss and yellow mustard in an Italian Flat-Out Wrap…

…and a Dark Chocolate and Walnut Nectar Bar. Please, don’t discontinue these Clif!

I went to the gym today to knock out my 1 mile training run and do a little cross-training on the side. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that our gym’s new treadmills have fans attached to them! They’re incredible! Anyway, here’s what went down:

5 minute warm up @ 4MPH

10 minute run @ 6MPH (10:00 pace)

5 minute cool down @ 4MPH

20 minutes @ resistance 12 on the ET

Nothing too exciting, but it got the job done! :)

Mariani dried apricots make delicious pre/post-workout fuel. I was popping these little suckers in mi boca all day!

If you look closely at the above picture, you can see my giant Marc Jacobs hat box in the background. That’s where I store all of my precious MJ handbags, wallets, clutches, ect. It’s basically the one thing I would grab if my apartment were to burn down. (I don’t have any pets here. Don’t worry, I’m not materialistic heartless!)

Well, today Marc – yes, we’re on a first name basis – launched his Spring 2010 handbag collection online! I died. But now I’m back and ready to give you all my opinions. Because, really, what would be the point of living if we couldn’t OOH-AND-AHH over gorgeous, over-priced handbags? (Hypothetical question, people. Again, I do have morals.)

Okay, I love the unique detailing on different parts of this bag. I like the pattern on the strap, the stitching on the bag, the bows on each side and the big balls (that’s what she said). However, I’m not sure if I like it all together? It’s a bit much. Maybe not so much if it was being carried down a runway, but definitely if I tried carrying this piece to class.

Favorite! My mom even called me and told me she knew this would be my top pick. It’s just so whimsical! It’s loud without being obnoxious, it’s completely different from anything I’ve seen before and it doesn’t have MARC JACOBS plastered on the front in large, bold print. It just screams spring!

I love the bright, bold color and I love the zipper detailing. I’m just confused as to how you actually get inside? (I hope that’s not what he said.)

Whoa! The 80’s have arrived. The text on the straps is pretty unique, but besides that, the bag doesn’t do much for me. I’m sure that it would do even less for me if I saw the price tag.

Well, this is… different. I’ve gotta say, as weird as it is, I kind of like it. I love the Miss Marc characters and I love pirates - Johnny Depp, duh - so I do think this is cute. I probably would never spend my own money on it, but I wouldn’t hate it if I got it for a gift.

That was fun, but it’s back to the books for me. Hope your hump day was hump-tacular!

Do you have a favorite designer? Do tell!

Many people are put off the thought of buying used electrical equipment because of bad stories or unfortunate experiences in the past. With most electrical items you will want to buy should be new so that you get something that has a warranty. The reason I advise people on a budget to consider the possibility of getting a used treadmill is that oftentimes you can find exercise equipment which has rarely been used.

Many people get a treadmill with the intention of getting fit and using their purchase on a regular basis but the reality is that many do not have the motivation to keep up their promises to themselves. This allows those of us with an eye for a bargain to pick something up cheap if we know were to look and what to look for.

Of course you might have to consider treadmills that have no guarantee but if you can find someone with a little knowledge should be able to buy relatively safely and with the bargains that are available it will probably be worth the effort.

Look to get a treadmill model from a company who produces high quality machinery and you’ll be getting exercise equipment which is build to last through many years of pounding. The best treadmills are expensive when new but they are build to last, make the most of the fact.

In my previous post, I have talked about using electric treadmills as a form of exercise to keep healthy. I forgot to mention that there are non electric treadmills in the market as well. These are cheaper than electric treadmills as they do not need power. They are also known as manual treadmills, where by walking, running or jogging on the treadmill you are powering it! As you put in more effort to overcome the friction of the treadmill, you are actually burning more calories and hence many people claim that using manual treadmills are actually better then electric treadmills. Perhaps you should try both to see if this is true.

I don’t quite know exactly who Jin is, but he is excellent. I accidentally found a song of his

I don’t quite know exactly who Jin is, but he is excellent. I accidentally found a song of his and OH MY GOD I have never heard such excellent Chinese-American rap in all my life. DOWNLOAD.

I’m supposed to be doing something that is not this (as is usually the case), but this time it’s not homework, or coursework, or tidying up, or feeding the unicorn. I am supposed to be RUNNING.

Because guess what I do now? I run. I actually run. I don’t just feebly propel myself forwards in a lame ass attempt at catching a bus or running after a stray piece of paper or escaping capture from a herd of drug dealers with pitchforks. I ACTUALLY RUN.

The other day I even went into JJB to get myself some running trousers. I don’t even know what the phrase ‘running trousers’ really encompasses, but I was determined to find something reasonably attractive to run in because hello? LYCRA? No.

And so I bought some Nike running trousers, or whatever they are, and I can safely say that never in my conservatively clad life have I ever had the words JUST DO IT sprawled across my behind. But, you know, you only live once. And actually? It’s not so bad. I just don’t go outside.

And then I dug out my trainers, which I bought back in Year 8 (totally not even exaggerating there, I really did) because they were pink and cute and had BW on the laces and I totally told people that I’d had them made for me even though my Dad would rather drown in a big tub of poisonous beetles than pay for me to have personalised trainers because, you know, SOME PEOPLE HAVE NO WATER and whatnot.

And then I got the treadmill out and looked at it for a while and attempted to stretch but gave up because, you know, the government might be watching, and I looked like a loser. And then I dug out my ipod and a bottle of Hydroactive and finally I got on and pressed start and balanced my ipod on the treadmill and left the safety cable dangling because you know me, I LAUGH IN THE FACE OF DANGER. And then I actually started running and feeling all good about myself because I wasn’t sat on the sofa eating M&Ms and watching Gossip Girl reruns.

And now comes the unfortunate part of my story. If the government had been watching, I fear they would have looked on in shame and sent me an immediate letter demanding instant exile because IT WAS THAT SHAMEFUL.

In my defence, though, I absolutely blame the Black Eyed Peas because I was totally innocently running/bopping along to Boom Boom Pow like the cool girl that I am and then all of a sudden I am getting a mouthful of treadmill. It was like, Boom Boom Smash. And the smash was my face, and the boom boom was me getting all tangled up in my ipod headphones, yanking helplessly at the off-cable, failing, and being thrown halfway across the room.

I FELL OFF THE TREADMILL.

I absolutely could have died. It was the scariest slow-mo moment of my life. I was merrily running along, wishing I was Fergie but without the dreadlocks, and then all of a sudden I was tripping up all over the place and flinging myself in the vague direction of the sofa in order to avoid a severe face-grating incident. As if my face needs any more uglyisation as it is.

And then I checked the time on the treadmill (1.03 minutes), took off my running trousers and my faux-initialed trainers, put on my pyjamas, and watched Gossip Girl.

Moral of the story?
GIRLS SHOULD NOT RUN. Especially not on treadmills, and especially not when they think the quadricep is a back muscle.

So forgive me for procrastinating, but I am somewhat reluctant to set foot on the treadmill. I suppose I could go out onto actual read roads but, you know, I have JUST DO IT across my arse.

On an entirely unrelated note: If You Were Mine – Marcos Hernandez. I found it on my oolllddd Windows Media Player playlist and was all, wtf is this? And then I played it and it was like, uber-deja vu. I remember car journeys in the dark, my old purple Walkman, wistful daydreams, candyfloss, webcam on MSN, and singing along to it with someone whose identity escapes me. If it was you, comment me. We can totally reminisce about the days with Marcos Hernandez and Escada Magnetism and those lovely yellow shirts and everything else about my lovely little year 9 life.

I am now, however, going to go for a run. Wish me luck. I NEED IT.

you know you love me, xoxo

Keeping fit is one of the most enjoyable and life enhancing activities I do each day – and now that my kids are growing up, they’re getting involved (and enjoying) keeping fit too. It’s a perfect start to a healthy lifestyle for them in my book.

My favorite piece of equipment at the moment is our new home fitness treadmill. It’s a Perspectiv ES ProForm treadmill that even has a 7 inch tv screen in the console, so I can watch the old reruns of friends while I’m doing my run.

The kids actually prefer the MP3 player interface which lets you connect pretty much any type of MP3 player and pipe the music through the rather impressive (at least for a treadmill) acoustics speakers. The sound is very good quality – certainly a lot better than I would have expected.

We’ve had the unti just under a month now, and so fart I’ve covered 97 miles – which was a real pleasure thanks to the ProTech 5 adjustable cushioning system – it lets you adjust the amount of cushioning to help protect your legs, knee and shins. I used to suffer with shin splints quite badly so I have the cushioning set to maximum, and after 97 miles to date my shins and knees are just fine.

Click To Read Horizon T91User Reviews

Well, the fires are still raging but my city seems to be benefiting from a shift in wind patterns and it’s not nearly as smoky as it has been. It’s a lot easier to breathe today but my allergies are still terrible! I keep hearing from CNN that the fires should be contained by 15 September. That means I’ll be cooped up in my house for about two more weeks. I suppose that means I’ll have more time for treadmill reviews and schoolwork.

Today’s treadmill review is in response to another e-mail I received from a reader. This e-mail is from Ted and Southampton New Jersey. He has been so kind as to allow me to publish his e-mail on protreadmillreviews.com. Take it away Ted:

“Dear Johnny,

I’m about 60 years old and I try to stay active as much as I possibly can. I walk my dogs and to the liquor store but it’s just getting too hard to walk in the cold. The cold really makes my bones ache which means I can’t really walk in the winter. I’m looking for a treadmill because I want to be able to take my daily walk no matter how cold it gets outside. I don’t need a top-of-the-line treadmill; I just need something that will let me walk at about a 2 mph pace that is not going to breakdown on me.

Sincerely,

Ted”

Well Ted you have come to the right place. I can certainly help you find the treadmill you’re looking for! If all you want to do is walk and have a reasonable assurance that your treadmill won’t break down on you I strongly suggest going with the Horizon T91 Treadmill. The Horizon T91 Treadmill is reliable, inexpensive, it offers far more features than its competitors do in the $600 price range. If you’re looking to spend less than $1000 on a treadmill the best place to start is HorizonFitness.com.

The Horizon T91 Treadmill goes far beyond any other competitor in the $600 price range. There are nine fitness programs. Many manufacturers often neglect to add or simply don’t care to make the investment in designing quality fitness programs for their treadmills, particularly in the under $1000 price range.

The Horizon T91 Treadmill can reach a top speed of 10 mph, not that you need anything that fast Ted, but it’s a testament to the quality motor Horizon Fitness has included with this treadmill. Many other treadmills in this price range come with a sub par motor that will buckle over the long haul or under pressure. In contrast, the Horizon T91 Treadmill’s 2.0 HP continuous duty motor has plenty of power and stamina to last for years and years. In fact, the only warranty issues I’ve personally dealt with in over half a decade of selling Horizon fitness treadmills have been attributed to delivery men chopping packages. In the off-chance something really does go bad on your treadmill you’ll be covered in full by the one-year parts and labor warranty.

I really do hope I helped you Ted. If you don’t think the Horizon T91 Treadmill is for you feel free to send me an e-mail at johnny@protreadmillreviews.com. That goes for anyone else with a treadmill or elliptical trainer question too.

I’ve been hard at work this weekend repairing my computer. I tried to illegally download music I already own because I can’t find the CD for the music. Unfortunately, I got infected. Then it spread to two other computers on my network and now everything is a mess. I’m almost back to normal, well, at least normal enough to write another Smooth Fitness Treadmill Review. I’m trying to get through all the good stuff right now because the busy season is coming and I really want to help you find the better treadmills in the ocean of fitness equipment out there. So, without further delay, here is my Smooth Fitness 645 Treadmill Review.

Labor is more often than not the single largest expense for most businesses. If a business can cut labor, a business can grow profits. That’s why so many treadmill companies out there will offer staggering lifetime warranties on things like motor and frame but leave the labor warranty short, often times less than 3 months! A good treadmill offers a 1 year parts AND labor warranty. A great treadmill manufacturer like Smooth 645 Treadmill offers 2 year parts AND labor. That’s right, if anything breaks down on the Smooth Fitness 645 Treadmill Smooth Fitness will cover everything from the bearings and bushings to a certified treadmill repair person to come to your home and fix your treadmill. The two year warranty is perhaps the single most compelling reason to own a Smooth 645 Treadmill.

Let’s not forget about performance. Smooth Fitness on the whole is one of my favorite treadmill manufacturers. Smooth Fitness dominates the $999 – $1500 price range. (Sole Fitness does give Smooth Treadmills a run for their money. I’ll have more on that later.) The Smooth 645 Treadmill is equipped with a very powerful 3.0 continuous duty horsepower motor that can handle users up to 350 lbs. The running area is equally as impressive. This treadmill felt incredibly spacious when I ran on it. It’s no wonder either, the Smooth 645 Treadmill has a full sized 20″ x 60″ running area that isn’t cluttered up by unnecessary framing as many other treadmills are.

This treadmill does have somewhat of a weak point. The maximum speed is 11.2 MPH. I really would like to see a higher top speed. 12 MPH would satisfy me and be fast enough for just about everyone to train on. One other little thing, I have seen better consoles out there. I really do like dedicated program and speed level buttons. The Smooth Fitness 645 Treadmill lacks dedicated control buttons. It would be a nice upgrade when Smooth Fitness redesigns their models next year. Just a thought Smooth Fitness.

Overall, this treadmill just feels great to use and it’s backed by one of the better warranties you’ll find in the treadmill world. A good warranty tells me the manufacturer is confident in a treadmill and the Smooth 645 Treadmill certainly has a warranty to be proud of. It’s very roomy and spacious and should be able to accommodate just about everyone from tall lanky runners to people who have a few pounds to lose. My final rating is a 4 out of 5.

Well, I officially kind of love Mondays. It seems by Monday of each week I really hit my stride. M

Well, I officially kind of love Mondays. It seems by Monday of each week I really hit my stride. My directives become natural & easy to accomplish. Today, I even had plenty of time to read & have a nap!

But first things first. The World Police & Fire Games ended on Sunday. Obviously, I did not have time to 1. attend five events earlier in the week. Also, my car is now uninsured & most of the events were held in cities outside Vancouver.

So, on my day off, I got a coffee (thanks, Salinger!) & trudged a mile through the rain to the Vancouver Convention Centre, which was listed as the day’s venue on the WPAG website. There I was told that I would have to walk 30 minutes in the opposite direction to the Plaza of Nations, where there was only one event left. They were doing something called Muster.

This was the first assignment I seriously contemplated not completing. But I thought that would set an unhealthy precedent, knew I should put in the effort, & went anyway. Turns out that Muster is a test of muster. Oh.

Teams of firemen competed to see who could set up a ladder, climb it, & hand up buckets of water to fill a big barrel on top of a platform the fastest.

I watched at least five competitions between ten countries. I hold that these were discrete events & consider my mission accomplished!

After relaxing with a smoothie (unfortunately verboten during the working week) with Braden, I headed to Jess & Braden’s place & helped Jess set up her website. No rest for the wicked! Then we got some delicious Thai food & watched Bedazzled (the original version). I think it parallels this project very closely. But who am I? Dudley Moore? Or Peter Cook? Rent it & tell me!

Also came up with many ingenious ideas for the project. I am positively brimming with ingenuity these days.

Upon arriving home, I’d received Adam’s video clips! I cobbled them together & they are very informative & funny, despite the unfortunate but apparently inevitable watermark.

He demonstrates the core exercises he’s assigned to me & then, as a lovely bonus, takes us on a tour of his high school bedroom & shows you what I wrote in his yearbook! It was hilarious, if only to me.

Those of you interested in getting in shape should watch the core exercises in particular! I’ve found them extremely beneficial & not so easy as they look. Those of you merely interested in stalking me should skip the core exercises & watch the bedroom tour. You’ll get an intimate glance of me at fifteen.

I am officially somebody who works even on my days off. I’ve got to cut that out.

Anyway, this morning I was really on top of my game. I 2. woke up early & 3. did core & warm-up. Then Braden kindly let me into his building so I could 4. run 1.5 miles on their treadmill. I did it in 15 minutes! When I began, it took me over 11 minutes to run a mile. This time, (I admit I walked one “lap”), a mile only took me 10! I love seeing fast results. Now, I feel like my muscles want to be active. This is particularly difficult, as I’m exercising under the shadow of Week 6. When I post the schedule, you’ll see what I mean!

Also, I 5. stretched.

The escorts across the street are making fun of me again. They make fun of me because I’m always up late writing. They probably think I’m playing some sort of internet game. I suppose I am, but it’s a very exciting one. Anyway, my reward is in heaven.

I went home for a shower then met Braden for lunch (so I could 6. eat a meal within an hour of my workout). I had some potato leek soup & a 7. kale salad.

Goodness & fun are still mutually exclusive.

When I arrived home, I checked my mail. To my delight, Ptolemy had sent me a book! It’s his most famous one, Paradise Fever. & he included a lovely autograph! You should all buy it & read. Then maybe you’ll understand why he’s so smart & interesting.

He's tied with Simon Armitage

I’m getting quite a collection of interesting autographed books. I got Amy Hempel to autograph one for Bella, & Simon Armitage gave me a lovely & very decorative autograph after a night of heavy drinking at Old Town. Boy is my life exciting.

Once upstairs, with the help of a friend’s mother, I tracked down the number of one of my favorite high school teachers. I called her, but she wasn’t in. I 8. left a voicemail with my number.

Then I crawled into bed with my new book & the Chancellor. Very compelling read! Made it halfway thru then dozed.

Afterwards, got a wrap & went to Jess’s, where I helped her transcribe an interview for a documentary. I love repetitive mindless labor, & this was no exception! I’m now considering applying for a job as a transcriber (transcriptionist?), so I can transcribe things on my day off & make money for a new computer. That should show you the abundance of energy I have these days!

Then we went bowling. In a cool little place where the balls are little balls that don’t have holes in them, & there’s no computer for scoring (must admit, in Michigan I became a habitual bowler, if a very bad one). We had some trouble figuring out the scoring, but once we managed, wow! In our first game we both bowled under 100. In the next two, Jess bowled 150 & 163 respectively! She’s a natural. I told her to join a bowling league. I, on the other hand, remained in the much less impressive 60-80 range.

The bowling shark.

Now I’m home. All I have left to do is 9. play a sport (or do a fun physical activity I can imagine myself doing consistently). Well, when I was at the store today, I picked up a jump rope. I’m going to skip some rope before bed. Don’t tell me that’s not a sport. Bike riding & hiking were suggested options & my third grade self begs to differ.

I’ve also instituted a new fun idea! I’m giving a gold star to my favorite comment each day. Whoever gets the most gold stars by the end of the year will get a present from me! I’m really good at giving presents, & I love doing it. The first two have gone to Jacqueline & Ptolemy. But who knows who will get one next!

There are other fun, participatory ideas that will soon be revealed.

Adam gave me some very useful tips on posture a few posts back. So now I’m making sure to switch my purse carrying shoulder off each day. & consciously lowering my right shoulder whenever possible.

Planning for my busy day & dinner party tomorrow! & so am off to bed. Keep up the good work everyone.

The story? A Japanese band called Sour created this synronized web cam video.

The result? Eye candy! Probably my favorite music video since the Ok Go treadmills in “Here We Go Again”

I love when bands come up with cool ways to showcase their music… and it has a viral component. I saw it and wanted to share it on my blog… don’t you want to do the same?

I originally discovered the Sour music video on the Amensia blog.

I don’t have the knees I did 20 years ago. I used to be able to run 6 miles almost every day

I don’t have the knees I did 20 years ago. I used to be able to run 6 miles almost every day and be fine. Years of playing tennis, weight lifting and wearing heels have had its affect on my joints. I have to be really careful and work smarter at my cardio.

I went to my gym today, since I ran 3 miles both Sat and Sun. My knees weren’t the issue, surprisingly. It was my lower back that got tight. I need new shoes and running on pavement can be pretty harsh. I get bored staying indoors, like many of us.

So, I’m hittin’ the elliptical and watching all these women who think they’re making themselves work harder by putting the ramp on level 7. It looks like a really steep climb. So what do they do? They clamp their hands on top of the machine and hang on for dear life.

People…if this is you…and men do it, also….realize you’re sabotaging yourself. It’s like locking your elbows on the stepper. Half your body weight is taken off, so you don’t burn as many calories. Aren’t your arms REALLY tired after holding yourself up on the treadmill? Try walking this angle WITHOUT holding on. A lot harder, isn’t it? You’re only burning about half the calories by using your upper body to hold you in position. I would rather see you keep the incline at 3 or 4 and see you swing your arms to keep up the momentum, than to see your incline at a 7 and see bulging biceps and arms because of you holding on to the machine.

Make your body work more. You’ll see more happen in terms of weight loss and toning up.

Talk to you later,

Rona
