Call me a skeptic, but there seem to be inherent problems with the way we process information in our courts. I pose the following independent scenarios for your consideration.

We rush to judgement in order to assign reasons to what happens. If we can assign blame promptly, then we can create the illusion that we and our loved ones are safe once the source of the blame has been identified and removed. If you doubt this, watch the respect that is automatically given to a police witness’ testimony in District Court.

When a witness testifies, he can be cross-examined to show that he has a bias or an interest in the subject of his testimony. Incredibly, police witnesses are given the benefit of the doubt by disregarding their inherent interest in cases where they made the arrest. Do they not benefit just as a salesman benefits when he makes his quota of sales?

When an arresting officer testifies that a driver arrested for a DUI performed poorly on field sobriety tests, or that a driver admitted he had so many drinks before driving, or that he drove within minutes of drinking — why should the officer be believed in the absence of some form of externally verifiable corroboration?

Generally, a motorist who is stopped by an officer has a right to refuse to take any field sobriety tests. An officer is not required to tell the driver that he has this right of refusal. Yet, we consider the driver’s participation in such tests voluntary and freely made. this practice simply fosters distrust between citizens and the police.

Asa ca…Evrika! Am gasit despre ce e vorba…se cheama Off-road arena synchron trial , va avea loc weekendul care urmeaza, 28-29 noiembrie in zona din spatele Palatului Copiilor, in Tineretului, si  se anunta foarte interesant:

Masini, ATV/Quaduri, Motociclete care trec peste obstacole de multe ori la limita legilor fizicii pe un traseu de cateva sute de metri care testeaza limita atat in ceea ce priveste vehiculul cat si pilotul. Obstacolele traseului vor fi recreate intocmai dupa obstacolele naturale intalnite in competitiile de off-road.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Okay, popped the nose one because.. I couldn’t stand it. The cheek one is like un-poppable. It sounds weird and gross, but it felts like raised body tissue, if that makes any sense.

UGHHHH and my moisturizer = not working. DRYNNESSSSSSSSSSS. It’s everywhere, but you can’t really SEE it except on like the area around my mouth/lower cheeks.

Sigh. Feel very ugly right now. Don’t get me wrong, skinID does seem to be working. However, the two blemishes in very inconvenient spots = horrible.

I added ARGH as a tag because I’m very frustrated right now lol.

Two blemishes, go away quickly please.

OMG tomorrow is Thanksgiving!

FML.

Sigh.

And.. and dryness please leave! I’ll have to get the fracking moisturizer now sigh.

Day Eight is November 24th, 2009

Dryness as usual. Tightness too.

Okay, I’m the stupidest person ever because I forgot I had an Oil Free Moisturizer from Proactiv lol… So I tried it and it actually works!

SO the two annoying blemish problems (cheek, nose) are getting worse, which means they’re getting better I guess. It’s slow going and I’m kind of freaking out since uh thanksgiving is this week. Not only that, it’s not like I can stay home everyday and not see people lol I have to tutor tonight so… that’s going to suck. I might put on a teeny bit of cover-up… Sigh I don’t know.

So yeah. Usual, for now, which is dryness, tightness, and a couple of blemishes.

If you were thinking why I was quiet for more than a month , I can have an excuse . I was busy in making arrangements for the main project, getting funds, registering as academic project, getting projector, deciding the budget etc etc(not to mention taking rest for looooong time). So finally to open my mouth I thought I would make a prototype of this which is a MTMini of course .

So I will write about how I made it so that it helps people getting into this field easily.

Hardware:

All hardware I required was a carton(23cmx15cm) , a web-cam(normal USB 2.0 and 10 fps), and a piece of paper(A4 size).I did not use any plexiglass but for someone making it I will advise to use plexiglass as it gives support and will produce better blobs.

The photo shows all things used.

I dint except too much from it as it had lesser configuration and all but it really turned out pretty good. The camera had 10 fps and it still managed to perform pretty well . Also I was happy for the blob quality . I felt like I had the best config for CCV in the world .

Software:

Well the base of it is CCV. I used v 1.2 . for receiving the video and process it . I will post a few pics of the images captured .

I tried and did the demo of the photo app and Fluid solver to people which worked quite well and demonstrated about the actual use of multi-touch. I will have to use PyMT as there is not a lot of good flash apps to show up with MT Mini.

So Finally as thanks giving I want to thank all people who provided the hardware parts like webcam (Suraj), Carton (Chaitanya) and Paper (LP).And of course thanks to seth sandler’s idea,NUIGroup and of course the people who did bare me for this and all my friends .

Next I will be deciding about the dimension of the LLP setup which I am building. So this much for now .

How “bad” do you have “it”?  Yes, seriously, ask yourself that question.  Do you not like your hair color? Eye color? Are you stressed out? Do you have little to no “free” time? Well, this week (sorry for the delay in this post by the way!), let’s see how “bad” our Prophets used to have “it.”

None of us will ever have a trial or test like our Prophets, ever.  The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to see every trial or test as an empowering experience.  I am sure many of you have heard that see a person’s true character based on their behavior when they are under, well, it’s true.  On Friday, November 27, 2009, Muslims around the world will commemorate a specific trial given to our Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Ismael (Ishmael).

Prophet Ibrahim (a.s.) wanted a son his whole life and Allah (s.w.t.) blessed him with one at an old age through a second wife, Hajar, since his first wife Sarah was not capable of reproducing offspring.  So how did the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe test this Prophet?  After Ismail grew up, Allah (s.w.t) gave Prophet Ibrahim the command to slaughter his only son.   But why slaughter and not kill his son, isn’t it the same?  Let’s think about this.  Prophet Ibrahim (a.s.) could have thrown his son off a mountain and his job would have been done plus he would’ve obeyed his Lord’s command.  But nope, God said he had to “slaughter” his son.  Wow.  Just think of annihilating anything you love in this world.  Could you do it?

The beauty of this story is that all the characters in it obey their Lord.  Ismail (a.s.) even told his father that he should execute the command with a sharp sword so that a) the cut is fast and so that b) he does not become weak and disobey the commandment.  So to keep a long story short, Prophet Ibrahim (a.s.) goes to slaughter his son and he is relieved of his duties by his Lord and told he passed his test of obedience.  Even better, he didn’t even sacrifice his son, but a ram instead!  That is a miracle and why we should entrust all our affairs to the One and Only Lord of the Universe.

So just as a reminder to all of us as we celebrate Eid  Al Adha this weekend, there is nothing, no exam, no test in life, no sickness or illness, that we cannot overcome without putting our faith in Allah s.w.t.  And if you need more proof, I give you the best proof there is to reiterate my statement:

2: 155 Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere,

2: 156 Who say, when afflicted with calamity: “To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return”:-

2:286 Allah tasketh not a soul beyond its scope

Sahih Bukhari 7.548 Narrated by Abu Huraira, the Prophet (PBUH) said:

How remarkable is the case of the believer! There is good for him in everything, but this is not the case for anyone except for the believer! When the believerreceives any good, he is thankful to Allah, and gets a reward; and when some misfortune befalls him, he endures it patiently, for which he is (also) rewarded.”

Okay so I haven’t posted for a while but I have been rather busy of late. And the next obsession I created for myself was finding some kind of software that would allow me to sign into Facebook chat, (seen as though Facebook killed MSN).

Well I found better.

IM+ and Beejive (pronounced b-h-v, I think their touchy about that one). These are both BlackBerry apps that allow any user to log into a variety of chat services including Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Google Talk, AIM, Yahoo… and of course MSN (amongst others).

These each come with Push IM services that allow any BlackBerry user to shutdown the app and have IM emailed direct to your inbox. Very useful if you want to prolong battery life and still catch messages from friends or clients.

In honesty the preferable UI would have to be Beejive over IM+. Beekive looks more finished and professional looking; IM+ seems to offer a rather basic design that I don’t fully commit to. Beejive gives you confidence to use it.

There are 2 key downsides to the apps. Beejive and IM+ seem to suffer at times connection issues which can result in errors been sent via email which is not entirely useful. Also the prices of these apps for the BlackBerry are phenomenal. I certainly do not want to have to pay £25 for IM+ when I change my phones like underwear. Beejive is an improvement at around £18 but even so, when the iPhone users get a $9.99 price – a slight insult.

Overall both offer a 30 day Free Trial to use, if your interested take them up but if you can’t justify the money – well, its your call. You could always try ebuddy.

Ali Dayan Hassan, senior South Asia researcher for the US-based rights watchdog Human Rights Watch is at work in the United Kingdom. He is also the British HRW South East Asia consultant to the the Lord Chilcot inquiry that will try to decide what was the overriding factor that took Britain into the Iraq war. This is a “crucial secret” the Chilcot inquiry could unlock. Key could be what assurances Tony Blair gave George Bush in a series of bilateral meetings, notably at the president’s ranch in Crawford, Texas, in April 2002.

The five man investigation committee that is holding a hearing that the leader says will last most of a year to investigate what actually was the reason for the Iraq war, and was Britain complicit in the torture of captured terrorist suspects.

The session will be televised on the BBC so it appears London will have a “circus” to watch on the “Tellee”about the same time that we have the travesty called a trial in New York for KSM and his four co-conspirators!

It appears the British have the same Human Rights “shill” as we have here in the USA.

What troubles me is the fact he may be called as a witness for the defense of the Terrorist Five” scheduled by Obama and his  Attorney General in New York.

The following is an article that Hasan wrote for Dawn, Pakistan’s only English newspaper.

“ISLAMABAD will be sealed off so that President Musharraf can welcome US President George Bush to his capital. Bush is making the journey to compliment and compensate Musharraf on services rendered in the ‘war on terror’.

Musharraf is hosting Bush to bask in the glory of a renewed alliance with the United States and to strengthen his faltering grip on power. Nowhere is human rights on the agenda.

In the run up to the trip, Bush has praised general Musharraf’s “vision for a democratic Pakistan” and his commitment to “free and open elections” Unless Bush knows something that Pakistanis do not, it appears that the continued disregard and undermining of the Pakistani Constitution, the marginalization of mainstream political parties, and the failure to hold a credible election is an odd formula for a democratic Pakistan and the Bush administration’s broader commitment to “fostering democracy in the Muslim world.”

The skewed view of President Musharraf held by Bush is certainly based on shared values. But rather than the shared value of democracy that Bush likes to speak about, what Musharraf and Bush have in common is a shared commitment to the priority, above all else, of the ‘war on terror.’ Bush has been gushing about Musharraf’s role therein, appreciating his “commitment to joining the world in dealing with Islamic radicals who will murder innocent people to achieve an objective.”

Bloggers note: this is the same Musharraf that identified the man scheduled to be tried with four other terrorists in New York as ” the man who had been recruited by the 9/11 mastermind, Khalid Shaikh Muhammad, who had trained a 12-man suicide squad intended to hit US interests around the world, and conducted reconnaissance of Heathrow airport in preparation for a possible attack” Source: BBC News.

“Given the conduct of the Bush administration in this context, the US president’s appreciation of the Musharraf government is hardly surprising. International human rights law contains no more basic prohibition than the absolute, unconditional ban on torture and “cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment.” To date, the Bush administration’s understanding of the term “torture” remains uncleared. 

And to make your blood boil even more I offer an excerpt from an article written by Ali Dayan Hasan for the Dawn Internet. The only Pakistan Newspaper that is printed in English”.

DOES THIS SOUND LIKE IT MAY BE USED AS A DEFENSE ARGUMENT IN THE TRIAL SCHEDULED FOR NEW YORK?

”British officials knew that Pakistani intelligence agencies routinely used torture, were aware of specific cases and did not intervene,” HRW’s senior South Asia researcher, Ali Dayan Hasan, said.

Such complicity had been confirmed by unnamed UK and Pakistani officials, the report said.

bloggers note: unnamed sources is a way to say this cannot be verified!  

”A key lesson from the past eight years of global efforts to combat terrorism is that the use of torture and ill-treatment is deeply counter-productive,” Mr Hasan went on.

”It undermines the moral legitimacy of governments that rely on it and serves as a recruiting tool for terrorist organisations. ”The evil of terrorism does not justify participating in or using the results of torture. Until an independent inquiry is held and those responsible held accountable, Britain’s reputation as a rights-respecting nation will stand tarnished.”

 Some one ought to inform Mr Hasan that all WAR is immoral, but unfortunately there is only one option–to surrender to our attackers!

I would remind the reader that those who blow themselves up to kill innocent people, chop heads off Journalists, and plant IEDs to kill anyone who drives the road are religious zealots dedicated to kill anyone they feel is not Islamic! And need I remind you of the Zaccarias Moussaoui trial as an example of the bad result that can happen in the New York trial?.

But a better case for an accurate preview of what can go wrong is that of USA v. Karim Koubriti and his other co-defendants in the Detroit terror trial.  As I’ve noted in excruciating detail, after Koubriti was found guilty by a federal jury in Detroit, his lawyers and PC prosecutors conspired to get the verdict overturned.  The Justice Department (yes, it was President BUSH’s Justice Department) indicted the prosecutor (who beat the absurd charges).  Terrorist Koubriti is now living in my hometown making his way to becoming a U.S. Citizen (with the DOJ’s help).  And he’s suing the prosecutor, Richard Convertino.  That’s what can happen here with KSM and his buddies.

Winston Churchill said something that is worth quoting at this point. He said; “A prisoner of war is a man who tries to kill you and fails, and then asks you not to kill him!

A witness in the trial of former Head of YUKOS oil Mikhail Khodorkovsky, and former Group Menatep Director Platon Lebedev, revealed in court on Monday 23rd November that a secret and illegal parallel investigation is underway for a new case against the two political prisoners, used by the prosecution to put pressure on witnesses.

Nadezhda Sheck, a former employee of the International Financial Alliance MENATEP said during her cross-examination in court that investigators: summoned her into the Prosecutors Offices on Wednesday 18th November, just two days before her testimony in court on Friday and was interrogated regarding a new investigation against Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev. Ms Sheck signed a non-disclosure agreement and was prevented from sharing any additional information in court on the subject of her questioning last week.

This new information shared by the witness in open court on Monday is a clear example of how the prosecution continue to use illegal tactics and place undue pressure on witnesses before giving their testimony in court. Under Russian law, use of secret parallel investigations against defendants to obtain information or meet with witnesses in the ongoing trial is prohibited practice.

In response to the witness’ revelation, Judge Viktor Danilkin openly aided and abetted the prosecution, threatening Ms Shek with criminal liability if she discussed further details of her recent interrogation.

Commenting on the new evidence of corrupt practices by the prosecution and Judge Danilkin’s reaction, Vadim Klyuvgant, Khodorkovsky’s Lead Defence Lawyer, said:

“The whole time this second case has been going on, we have been relentlessly insisting that there is a parallel investigation taking place. What the witness Shek said – this is just one of a multitude of illustrations, evidence that there is a parallel inquiry going on – constantly, ceaselessly, secretly, and illegally.”

“…the behaviour of the presiding judge…shows a major shift in his position. If before he merely sat by silently and did not try to stop all this illegal activity by the party of the prosecution as a whole – both that of the prosecutors in the courtroom and that of the investigative bodies behind their backs, about which we are learning – today he openly aided and abetted them. He helped conceal the traces of this activity, even to the point of intimidating the witness, even to the point of obvious discrimination against the defence in relation to the prosecution during the questioning of the witness, when the prosecution has the opportunity to ask everything it wants, irrespective of whether this does or does not bear a relation to the case.”

“…the court has no right to intimidate a witness. A witness in court is obligated by law to answer all questions irrespective of any other circumstances whatsoever. Intimidating a witness with some kind of consequences of some kind of written undertaking, made with respect to some obscure case — this is simply a complete and total outrage.”

So my ignorant father is apparently pissed and trying to get out of paying for everything. As if I haven’t accepted responsibility for my actions with school, but because he has some wife he is responsible for (not that I don’t like Aimee, but…) I may have to stop going to school. It is evident now more than ever that I need to seek out scholarships. Please Lord help me!

Well, Rick and Aimee, if you someday read this, this is what I have to say:

I screwed up. I overestimated my ability in school and failed. This is not to say that I am not smart. I have 12+ years of academic excellence to prove that this is a one time mistake.

I am not like others. I was stupid last year. Stupid, cocky, and underachieving. I thought I could coast through my education. But this experience has taught me how to grow into an academically adequate person, and I full-heartedly believe in myself. Yes, I hid my grades and I lied. But I was scared, and going through and identity crisis. I have always been the brainy, intelligent one that wanted to learn.Suddenly, I was the one who failed out of college. College is all I have ever wanted to do with my life thus far. And I failed. That was an emotional, self-loathing roller coaster that terrified me, yet also forced me to grow up. I am ready to return to NIU a better, older, more improved Rikki.

The important thing now is that I have taken steps that will lead me back to NIU and I can start fresh with a new slate, 4.0 GPA, and I can make things happen for myself.

Dad, if you get out of paying and I do not get to go to school as a result, I hope you know that we will be done. FOREVER. I understand the consequences of my actions but I will get my college degree, even if your bull-headed stubbornness slows me down. I am better than you in so many ways, and this is one of them. I may have screwed up, but part of being an adult is accepting responsibility. This is what I am doing.

More than once you have treated me like dirt, you have put me on the back burner. I have come to learn that I don’t need you in my life, as much as I may want you there. If you push me hard enough, you will lose a daughter.

In closing, and this goes to everyone, do not let things stop you from getting what you want, even if that thing is yourself. I made one of the biggest mistakes that I will regret for the rest of my life. But I also know that I have grown as a person, and I know that if I didn’t keep working my way through school, I would learn to hate myself. Even if it’s your own flesh and blood looking down on you as a disappointment, you can find better family out there that will believe in you, share your strife with you, and pull you up when you are so far down you can’t even recognize yourself. This person is my mother, the strongest, most amazing woman I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Everyone, please pray for my mom tomorrow as she goes to battle my father in court. We desperately need some financial stability as far as school is concerned, and the little bit from my Dad would be a God send. Please please pray. I know I screwed up and hardly deserve it, but I still ask for forgiveness and reassurance that me and my beautiful mom can breathe a little bit and focus on other things than my Dad’s vengeful trial. What a looooooooooser.

Dad, I hope you enjoy your life with Aimee. She’s going to be the only family you have left when it’s all over.

Okay, I just noticed that my days are messed up. Because I tend to update at all hours, the days aren’t correct. Right now, for instance, I’m updating for Monday, November 23rd, but it’s about 1 AM so the timestamp will read November 24th.

I know sleeping late isn’t good, but I try to sleep at 12 am or 1am at the latest

Anyway, so I’ll internally date too. So this is for Monday, Nov. 23.

Very dry in the morning! And it’s kind of going full-faced now. Bottom line is I need the moisturizer agh!

The cheek blemish is getting worse! Well, I mean it’s on its way to come to head, you know? But it’s a horrible process. I don’t want to leave my house lol
More bad news:

1. Blackheads on my nose. I don’t really get blackheads these days. Well I do, but they’re not bumps. I have two on the side of my nose that are bumps. Sucks.
2. Two new pimples. Small, though, and I don’t worry about them at all. Even if I was clear, I think I’d be like ugh but not a biggie, really.

So the cheek one and the blackheads make me nervous (first one VERY because it’s red and horrible and totally too flamboyant, and the latter because I never get those and what the hell is going on here). I have dryness and tightness, the latter not being horrible, but the first being very annoying.

Yup.

This Crafting Profession has been a favorite for a lot of people ever since its revamp which included the addition of Hybrid Potions at Rank 40.  Lately, with Butchering’s changes, it’s become more popular than ever.

Quick Explanation of Crafting in WAR

WAR has a two-stage crafting system.  The first stage is handled through a “gathering” profession and the second stage is the actual “crafting” profession.

Here’s the rundown:

Apothecary - Crafting Profession – Makes potions with various temporary effects.

• Butchering - Gathering Profession – Harvests monsters for items to use in making potions.
• Cultivation - Gathering Profession – Grows plants and fungi to use in making potions.

Talisman Making – Crafting Profession – Makes talismans that can be added to worn items to boost stats.

• Magical Salvaging - Gathering Profession – Deconstructs items for the parts to use in making talismans.
• Scavenging - Gathering Profession – Harvests players/NPCs for items to use in making talismans.

At the time this guide was created, all Gathering professions were viable for use in each of their respective Crafting professions.  However, each Crafting profession has its own pros and cons, as does each gathering profession.  It is best to understand those pros/cons before selecting your professions, however you are able to change both your Crafting and Gathering profession at any time (however at the loss of all progress).

Crafting Storage

Most of the items you will use in your crafting will be tradeable, thus can be stored not just in your own inventory, but also your Personal Bank Vault and your Guild Bank Vault.  The exception to this rule currently are the Hybrid Seeds that are looted in Tier 4.

You have two options now for storing them in your personal inventory though.  Crafting items will automatically (upon purchase/loot) go to your Crafting Item Inventory.  This is the third tab of your Backpack as shown in the picture below.

This special inventory space starts with only one bag, but you gain more bags by leveling your crafting professions.  You gain a new bag for each 100 points you earn in each profession, giving you a total of five bags when you’re done.

If you run out of space here, items will start to automatically go into your regular inventory.  Items can be moved back and forth between the two types of personal storage areas by right-clicking on them.

Finally, no discussion of Crafting Storage would be complete without mentioning the Mail System.  :p

All tradeable items can be sent back and forth between alts (alternate characters on your account) and friends, then left in your mailbox unopened for a good deal of time.  Proper mailbox use can extend your personal storage space for tradeable items infinitely.

Selecting your Crafting and Gathering Professions

As a new player, your first exposure to Crafting trainers comes in Chapter 2 of the WAR Story.  (The PvE towns in WAR are designated as Chapters and the PvE road moves you through these Chapters in sequential order.)  If you are on a Trial Account, this is the only place you can learn these professions.

Those players with subscriptions to WAR can also train in their Capital City (Altdorf or the Inevitible City).

It costs no money to train or re-train a Crafting profession.  You can change your profession at any time, however you will lose all progress you have made in that profession.

The Apothecary, Cultivator and Hedge Wizard (Talisman Making) trainers also are Merchants selling items for their respective craft.

Once you’ve made your choice, it’s time to level your profession(s).  For the sake of this guide, let’s assume you’ve made Apothecary your Crafting profession.

Apothecary Overview

Apothecary is all about making potions, potions and more…dyes.  Go figure. 

Of the two full Crafting professions, Apothecary is the one with the most “wiggle room”.  In other words, there isn’t just one way to make things.  Yes, only certain ingredients make the potions you want.  However, the additives you use can vary from things that make  you more potions with each craft to things that make the duration on potions longer.  Because of this, you have the freedom to make potions that fit you and the way you play.  (Granted, some additives are almost required for certain potions to maximize their effects.)

As you can tell from my first sentence, Apothecary is the “bulk” crafting profession.  Not only do you need to make lots of potions just to use, but you need to go through lots of crafting sessions just to get the lucky rolls to get the good potions as well.  It’s not uncommon to sit down with a couple hundred ingredients and knock out a bunch of potions all at once just to get 30-40 of the ones you really want to use and toss the rest on the Auction House cheap or just Merchant them.

Once you get to end-game Apothecary, you’ll want to hunt down the rare ingredients for Liniments.  These Hybrid potions are must-haves for Potion Makers.  This can take quite a bit of effort, but is worth it in the end.

Compared to Talisman Making, there is a lot more work involved, however because of the usefulness of potions and their limited nature, it’s well worth the effort.

Must-Have Addons for Apothecary

There really is only one Addon you need to have for Apothecary:  Crafting Info Tooltip.

To be honest, it’s a must-have for all Crafting/Gathering professions.  It’s just that good.

Why?  Because it shows you the “hidden” crafting information for each item when you hover over them in your inventory.  This is invaluable information for all crafters, especially when you want to make very specific things and at maximum potency.  Understanding the information it provides is the key to being a great crafter.

Go to Curse.com and do a search for this Addon and download it.  I prefer to manually install all my Addons.  It’s not difficult.  However, if you’d rather not, you can use the Curse Client instead.  (I’m not a fan as it’s always had issues on Patch Day when the new versions of addons come out and the old ones don’t always work.)

Note:  Some people like to use another Addon that is supposed to do a lot of the work for you when making Potions, however once you understand the math behind Apothecary, there really is no need for any additional Addon beyond Crafting Info Tooltip.

Leveling Apothecary

While I usually recommend just buying your ingredients to level the first 25 points in these professions, with Apothecary I don’t.  For one, it’s a lot more expensive to do than with the other professions.  The main reason though, is that you should be leveling either Butchering or Cultivation at the same time so you should have loads of free ingredients to use to level with.

What you do need to buy right away is at least one stack of 20 Apprentice’s Glass Vials.  Grab 40 if you can afford it.  You’ll need these while out running around so you can level your skill as you go instead of stocking up on ingredients and then doing it all at once which can just crowd your inventory at lower levels.

Just as with Talisman Making, the skill level of your Main Ingredient is what determines your ability to raise your skill with each craft.  (ie:  Once you hit skill 25, you need to use level 25 ingredients to continue leveling quickly.)

Once you have your Vials, open up the Abilities window and click on the General tab on the far right.  Drag the Apothecary icon to your toolbar.  Click the icon on your toolbar to open your Crafting Window.

Kinda empty, huh?  Open your Crafting Inventory and right-click on a Vial to load it into the window.

Now you’re ready to start.

The top-left slot is for your Main Ingredient.  You can simply right-click it in your Crafting Inventory to load it into the window.  The bottom three slots are for your additives.  These are primarily going to be taken up with Stabilizers in the beginning, however later you’ll also want to include things like Extenders and Duration modifiers.  More on those later.

Once you have added your Vial and your Main Ingredient, you will want to add a couple Stabilizers (these are prevalent in both Gathering professions or you can buy Water off the Merchant) until the Stability bar on the top right is all the way up in the green.  Once it is, hit the Brew! button.

You can continue leveling your skill in this manner by making “junk” potions until you hit 200 skill.  However, since you’re probably also leveling your character as well, you might as well learn to do it right and make things you’ll actually use in combat.  Use your “junk” ingredients to grind regular potions with and use your better ingredients (ie: additives) for the ones you want to use for yourself.  By leveling in this manner, you’ll always stay stocked with helpful potions, as any good Apothecary should!

Note:  If you have lots of higher-level ingredients, you can use the Apothecary skill potion (Alchemist Tonic) to boost your skill by 25 points for 30 minutes.  You can even make your own if you’re in a guild with access to the Guild Hall Merchant once you’re skill 50.  The item you use as the Main Ingredient is called Aggregate Compound and costs 1 gold.

Second Note:  You can also craft these items to help level with and sell the resulting Potion on the Auction House if there’s a market for that on your server.  There is also a level 100 ingredient called Revivification Compound that makes a Resuscitation Potion that is usually in fair demand, although the ingredient alone costs 15 gold.  I would save this for end-game crafting when you can make multiple for each ingredient due to the cost.

The Four Categories of Potions

While certain potions override others when you use them, there are four general categories of potions that can be used with each other since they don’t override the other or trigger a reuse timer.

• Insta-use Potions – Heals, Energy and Damage Absorb/Shield potions fall into this category.
• Stat Potions – Basic stats like Strength and Willpower, as well as the Hybrid Liniments, fall into this category.
• Defensive Potions – Things like Armor, Thorn and Resist potions fall into this category.
• Combat Potions – Molotov, Flame Breath and other combat potions all fall into this category.

Keeping this in mind, a skilled Apothecary can keep themselves and their friends outfitted with a full complement of potions to help them achieve victory in battle.  (For example, as a Tank in RvR at Rank 40, I like to use a Liniment and a Resist potion while also having both types of Heal potions ready and a Napalm potion for fun.)

Basic Potion-making Information

Once you have a bit of practice under your belt and are familiar with how Apothecary works in regards to making a stable potion, it’s time to try your hand at making potions you can actually use as opposed to just leveling.

With six different items that can be combined in various ways, this is where Apothecary becomes more complex than Talisman Making.

First off, when making potions for actual use, Vials matter.  Using the highest level Vial you’re qualified for is a must in these cases.  As they go up in level, they add both Stability and Power which are two very important factors in making good potions.

Second comes the Main Ingredient.  You will want to pay special attention to the level of the ingredient you’re using and the Power it is going to provide your potion, as well as its Stability rating.  The total Power of your potion is going to determine the Rank of player that can use it as well as how strong it will be.

Next come the four different types of additives for your potions:  Stabilizers, Extenders, Multipliers and Stimulants.

Stabilizers do just what they say, they stabilize your potion so it will be successful.  These are required in nearly all potions you will make, so get familiar with the different kinds available to you.  (Currently Cultivation provides the best Stabilizer in the game: Goldweed.  This Stabilizer not only acts as its namesake but also adds a Multiplier to the potion.)

Extenders increase the duration of the effect the potion will have.  Maximizing duration is great for things like basic stat potions, Heal over Time potions and others.  However, they are completely unnecessary on things like Direct Heal potions or Energy potions.

Multipliers do just what they say, they multiply the number of potions you get from each crafting attempt.  These are great for things like Direct Heal potions where you want to make lots of them all at once.  (Currently Butchering has the best Multiplier in the game.  It allows you to make six potions with each crafting attempt.)

Finally, Stimulants increase the chance of you making a better potion.  Every crafting attempt you make has a chance to “crit” and create something better than the basic potion.  Using these ups your chances of that happening.  (That being said, it’s rarely a viable additive in the long run.  Extenders are much more desirable for potions that you want to last and Multipliers end up providing you with more of the potions when they do “crit” so there really is no reason to use Stimulants often.)

Armed with this information, you should be able to experiment with various combinations and create some very useful potions for yourself and your friends.

Making Dyes

You didn’t think all Apothecaries did was make Potions did you? 

Both Cultivation and Butchering provide Pigments that can be used to craft Dyes by an Apothecary.  Here’s how it works.

Once you have a Pigment from your Gathering profession, you’ll need to go buy both a “Wooden Mortar and Pestle” and an “Alum Root Extract” from the Merchant.  These are both required to make Dyes and do not come from anywhere but the Merchant.

Open your Crafting Window and right-click the Mortar and Pestle to load it in.  This creates a new Dye-making version of the Apothecary window.

Once loaded, right-click the Pigment you want to turn into a Dye, then right-click the Alum Root Extract.  Once you have all three ingredients in, hit Brew! to make your new Dye.

Note:  Cultivation’s Pigments are tied to the level of the seeds as well as specific seeds once you’re using skill 200 seeds.  Butchering currently just drops the various Pigments at random, regardless of your skill level.

Once you’ve leveled your Apothecary skill to 200, you’re ready to learn more!

The best thing to do is to go to the following web sites and read up on the information they have to offer.  They are also places you can ask for more information on things that you aren’t sure about.
