<p class="MsoNormal">Prima atestare a lor a fost in jurul anului 550 d.Hr, cand “slavii, sclavenii, sclavinii, sklavenoii&#8221; au &#8220;iernat&#8221; in Imperiul Bizantin.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In 987, Vladimir cel Mare al Rusiei Kievene, se boteza la ortodoxismul crestin, la Chersoneu, luand numele crestin de Vasile.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Apoi, intorcandu-se la Kiev, a distrus toate monumentele pagane, inclusiv sanctuarele inchinate lui Perun, urmand a ridica biserici crestine in locul lor.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Religia “pagana” a slavilor, precrestina, a fost una de esenta indo-europeana, cu character uranian dar si cateva elemente solare.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In fruntea pantenonului slav, sta “Zeul Suprem”, “Mai Marele” sau Dumnezeu (Бог, Bog).</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Acest termen are origini indo-europene, fiind intalnit si la vechii iranieni, sub forma de “<em>bay</em>”, cuvant ce inseamna <em>“zeu</em>” si reprezinta “un zeu ce ofera”, milostiv, generos dar si puternic.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Domnul profesor Sorin Paliga este de parere ca adjectivul “<em>bogat</em>” ar deriva de la aceasta veche radacina indo-europeana, avand un atribut essential al divinitatii zeului.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Un alt cuvant folosit de slavi pentru a desemna zeul supreme, a fost “<em>gospod</em>”, care inseamna “<em>domn</em>” sau “<em>stapan</em>”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In ziua de azi,<span> </span><em>“gospod</em>” sau <em>“gospodin</em>” se foloseste mai mult sub forma unui apelativ de politete.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Originile cuvantului sunt tot indo-europene, <em>Gos</em> din <em>Ghosti</em> si <em>Pod</em> din <em>Potis</em>, care insemna s<em>tapan</em>.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Forma veche a cuvantului, e posibil sa fi fost <em>ghostis-potis</em> “stapanul oaspetilor”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Radacina ineo-europeana <em>ghostis,</em> inseamna “strain” si “oaspete”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Parerea mea este ca acest termen “bog” e posibil sa fi fost un alt epitet al lui Perun, ca atribut explicativ al puterii sale absolute asupra oamenilor.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Conform traditiei slavilor rasariteni, lumea era dominate de un grup divin format din sapte mari zei, primul si cel mai important fiind Marele Zeu Perun “Перун” apoi Veles, Hors, Dažbog, Stribog, Simargl dar si zeita numita Mokos.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Se pare ca zeul Perun al slavilor, era inrudit cu Perkunas “</span>Perkūnas” al popoarelor baltice, avand aceleasi attribute explicative si semnificatii sacerdotale; ambii facand parte din pantenonul religios indo-european.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">O alta inrudire intre Perun mai exista si cu zeul Perkele al finlandezilor, care mai era numit si “<span>Ylijumala” sau “Ukko” dar si cu </span>Pajonn al laponilor, Parjanya (<span class="unicode">parjánya</span>) din Hinduism si Perendi al albanezilor.De asemenea, este echivalentul lui Thor sau Donar al germanilor si Taranis al celtilor.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Perun mai era numit<span> </span>Perkun sau Perun (Serbia), Perkun (Polonia), Perun (Rusia, Bulgaria) sau Parkelj (Slovenia).</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">El face parte din categoria zeilor indo-europeni ai tunetului si fulgerului, attribute explicative ale puterii divine prin excelenta intalnite la indo-europeni.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In limba lituaniana, Perkūnas inseamna <em>tunet.</em></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">La Congresul de tracologie din Sofia, din anul 2000, Al. Fol a propus o explicatie destul de interesanta a acestui oronim stravechi, cum ca ar fi de origine traca, tracii venerand muntele Pirin din Bulgaria, regiune Blagoevgrad (sud-vestul Bulgariei), i-au impresionat pe nou venitii slavi, iar acestia ar fi imprumutat numele muntelui si l-ar fi transformat in zeu (litolatrie).Alte personae spun ca numele muntelui Pirin ar fi pus in cinstea zeului Perun.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Cert este ca radicalul “per” din cuvantul Perun, inseamna <em>foc </em>(focul fulgerului), avand ca origine indo-europeanul “pur”, care inseamna <em>foc</em> (pyros in greceste inseamna foc).</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Tot Sorin Paliga mai crde ca forma veche a cuvantului Perun trebuie sa fi fost Pur-un si ca slavii ar fi preluat de la indo-europeni (in special vecinii lor traci) doar radacina cuvantului pur, care inseamna foc. Perun mai era numit de catre slavii vechi “Zeul focurilor de pe Cer” dar si “zeul tunetului si al fulgerului”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Aceste explicatii ale semnificatiei cuvantului Peru nisi au rostul deoarece se stie foarte bine ca slavii vechi, isi incinerau mortii, focul avand un rol purificator etern (focul sacru).</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Perun era reprezentat ca un barbat cu o statura impunatoare, cu parul de argint si mustatile aurite, ce purta un ciocan (vezi ciocanul lui Thor), o secure de razboi si un arc, cu care tragea sageti din fulgere.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In cinstea zeului Perun se faceau deseori sacrificii de cocosi si capre, iar pentru ritualurile importante inchinate zeului, se sacrificau tauri sau ursi.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Conform “Cronicii Primare Ruse”, numita si “Croncia lui Nestor calugarul” (O lucrare istorica a Rusiei Kievene ce cuprinde anii 850-1110, scrisa in Kiev in jurul anului 1113, de un calugar numit Nestor) slavii mai sacrificau in cinstea lui Perun si oameni, prizonieri de razboi.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Acest ritual avea loc in fiecare an, timp de noua zile, perioada in care avea loc festivalul inchinat in cinstea zeului, in mijlocul verii. Aceste sacrificii aveau loc in varful muntilor sau pe dealuri ori coline (caracter urano-solar).</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Ziua dedicate lui Perun era ziua de Joi.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Arborele sfant al lui Perun era stejarul, exact ca in mitologia scandianva.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dupa crestinarea slavilor, cultul lui Perun a fost asociat cu cel al Sfantului Profet Ilie, cel ce gonea ca nebunul cu carul de foc prin Cer si pedepsea dusmanii prin fulgere.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Se spune ca Perun avea o consoarta numita Perperuna dau Dodola, similara lui Sif, consoarta lui Thor sau Prende a albanezilor, consoarta lui Perendi, zeul tunetului si fulgerului al albanezilor, avand origini illyrice.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Perperuna apare ca o zeita a Naturii, a ploii si legenda spune ca atunci cand ea isi mulgea vacile, pe Pamant incepea sa ploua, oamenii proslavind ploaia ca pe un dar de la zei.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Primavara era dedicata Perperunei.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Urmatorul zeu ca importanta, in mitologia slavilor, era Veles (Велес), Weles in poloneza, zeu ce mai era numit si Volos (<span lang="RU">Волосъ</span>). El era un zeu domestic, ce avea in grija sa animalele domestice, in special cirezile de vite dar si caii, fiind considerat un zeu al prosperitatii domestice.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">El ne apare si ca un zeu al apelor, avand un character chtonic de zeu sub-pamantean, ce se ocupa cu inselatoriile, fiind un dusman inversunat al lui Perun. (vezi Loki si Thor) dar si ca un vrajitor.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Batalia dintre Veles si Perun apare ca un mit important in traditiile religioase pagane ale slavilor. El apare ca un barbat mai in varsta, purtand barba si fiind imbracat in piei de animale sau blana, avand deseori un ciomag mare in mana.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Conform Cronicii Primare Ruse, Veles sau Volos apare ca un zeu al vacilor si taranilor muncitori, ce se ocupau cu cresterea animalelor, fiind de asemenea un zeu al razboiului, asemeni lui Týr al scandinavilor.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Inainte ca Vladimir sa se crestineze, cele sapte statui ale zeilor primordiali din mitologia slavilor, se aflau in marile centre urbane din Rusia Kieveana, in special Kiev.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Interesant este ca statuia lui, singura din cele sapte, nu se afla pe colina sacra a Kievului, alaturi de celelalte, si undeva la campie, intr-un teren plat aproape de o piata.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">De aici s-a tras si concluzia ca Veles ar fi fost si un patron al comertului, protector al comerciantilor.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In opozitie cu Perun, care avea statui in locuri inalte si primea sacrificii in aceleasi locuri, Veles era venerat in locuri de campie sau chiar pesteri sau paduri.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Ca influente toponimice, avem in Macedonia de Vardar, un oras numit Veles, in partea centrala a tarii, chiar pe raul Vardar.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Ca etimologie, e posibil sa aiba origini indo-europene. La indo-europenii vechi, “wel” insemna “lână”. In rusa, “volos” mai inseamna si “păr”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Odata cu mitul “bataliei dintre Veles si Perun”, zeul a fost asemanat cu un dragon urias sau un zmeu.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Se spune ca motivul dusmaniei dintre cei doi (Veles si Perun) este reprezentat de faptul ca Veles i-ar fi furat copilul lui Perun, nevasta sau vacile. Este de asemenea un act al provocarii dintre cei doi:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Veles, sub forma unui sarpe urias, se strecoara viclean din pesterile Iadului, al carui stapan este, apoi se incolaceste pe Copacul Vietii, urmand a asedia casa cereasca a lui Perun, din varful copacului. Perun se apara, atacandu-l la randul lui pe Veles cu traznete. Veles dispare, urmand a se transforma in copaci animale sau chiar oameni. La final, este ucis de catre Perun, iar acest ritual al mortii readuce totul la normal; tot ce furase Veles, este eliberat din Cer, cazand sub forma unor stropi de ploaie.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Acest mit al furtunii avea conotatii sacerdotale si traditionale asupra vechilor slavi, schimbandu-le sezonul in timpul anului.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Perioadele secetoase si uscate din an erau interpretate ca rezultate haotice ale hotiei lui Veles. Furtunile si fulgerele, tunetele si traznetul ca o batalie divina dintre Perun si Veles, iar ploaie si curcubeul, ca o victorie a lui Perun asupra lui Veles si restabilirea ordinii universale.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Acest mit ciclic, se repeat in fiecare an; moartea lui Veles nefiind permanenta deoarece Veles lua in fiecare an forma lui de balaur, urmand a introduce starea de haos a Naturii asupra oamenilor.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Vechii slavi nu vedeau in Veles un zeu negativ,rau. Acest razboi dintre Perun si Veles nu era un razboi clasic al dualismului dintre Bine si Rau, ci se baza pe principiile ciclice ale Naturii.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Veles mai apare si ca protector al muzicantilor calatori si al muzicii per ansamblu; in timpurile pagane, muzicantii inchinau libatii cu mied in cinstea zeului.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dupa crestinarea slavilor, a fost transformat in “Sfantul Vlas sau Vlasius ori Volos, protectorul animalelor”.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Zeul Hors, Chors (Khursun in limba scitilor) reprezenta Soarele personificat sub forma divina.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Singurele informatii despre zeul Hors le avem din Cronica Primara Rusa si “Povestea campaniei lui Igor”, un poem epic rusesc anonim din secolul XII.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Ele ne spun ca zeul Hors reprezenta Soarele cel Vechi, ceea ce in mitologia slava inseamna ca odata ce zilele devin mai scurte, si Soarele se misoreaza in Emisfera Nordica, si moare in timpul sarbatorii pagane slavone numita Korokhun (<span>Корочун), sarbatoare ce avea loc odata cu solstitiul de iarna.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>In aceasta data, Hors, ce simboliza vechiul Soare, devine mai mic si moare, odata cu solstitiul de iarna (21 Decembrie), urmand a invia pe 23 Decembrie, sub forma unui Soare nou, numit Koleda sau Kolyada (</span>коледа, коляда), numele original slavon pentru Craciun.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Se spune ca Hors este infrant de catre Zeul Negru dar reinvia, fiind divinizat de catre slavii vechi ca un zeu al vindecarii, al supravietuirii, al triumfului impotriva bolii si slabiciunii, fiind considerat “Maestrul Ierburilor” sau pur si simplu avand atributele unui vraci intelept.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Ca zei similari in alte mitologii importante, ii avem pe Asclepios al elenilor, Apis al egiptenilor si Baldur al scandinavilor.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>In timpul solstitiului de iarna, slavii vechi dansau un ritual religios numit horă (horo-</span> хоро la bulgari, kolo-<span>kолo la sarbi, croati si in Bosnia si </span>Khorovod-<span lang="RU">хоровод</span> la rusi.)</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Dažbog</span> (<span>Dazhbog</span>, <span>Dazbog</span>, <span>Dazhdbog</span>, <span>Dabog</span>, <span>Dajbog</span>, <span>Dadzbóg</span>, <span>Dadźbóg) este un alt zeu important, venerat in timpul cneazului Vladimir al Rusiei Kievene.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>El apare tot ca un zeu solar, similar lui Helios al elenilor. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Din punct de vedere etimologic, este compus din verbul <em>da-ti</em> “a da” si <em>bog </em>“zeu”, sensul cuvantului compus ar putea fi “zeul darnic”, “zeul daruitor”.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Existenta lui ca zeu important este de asemenea mentionata in Cronica Primara Rusa, </span><em>Codexul Hypatian</em> (un amalgam de cronici medievale slave, rasaritene, ce cuprinde Cronica Primara Rusa, Cronica Kieveana si Cronica Galitiano-Volhiniana) dar si in “Povestea campaniei lui Igor”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Daca e sa ne luam dupa aceste cronici medievale, i-am putea atribui un character chtonian; zeul fiind descries ca un “pastor al lupilor” sau un demon urat ce stapaneste lumea subpamanteana si calatoreste deseori printer oameni, cu diverse scopuri “diabolice”. Dar sa nu uitam ca aceste cronici au fost scrise in special de calugari, smintiti de dogma iudeo-crestina, sau mai corect spus, avand o rea vointa.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Dažbog a fost considerat insusi Diavolul, aceasta acuzatie bazandu-se pe cateva dintre atributele sale pagane chtonice si similitudinea Diavolului din demonologia iudeo-crestina.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Se mai spune ca Svarog era tatal lui Dažbog, de accea anumiti istorici au incercat reconstituirea lui dupa matricea lui Svarog.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Alti mitologisti sunt de parere ca Dažbog ar fi un alt epitet al lui Hors, in acest fel putandu-se explica atributele solare ale zeului.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Vladimir Toporov, un filolog rus, era de parere ca numele de Hors ar fi de origine scitica (iraniana) si ca ar fi un alt nume al lui Dažbog al slavilor.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Rusul Boris Ryabakov era de parere ca Hors reprezenta Soarele ca divinitate, iar Dažbog ar reprezenta doar puterea solara a lui Hors.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Conform legendelor si traditiilor slavilor de est, Dažbog a fost un mare erou al neamului lor, divinizat dupa moarte, datorita respectului oamenilor pentru faptele sale eroice populare.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Stribog</span> (Stribozh, Strzybog, Стрибог) este zeul si totodata spiritul vanturilor, aerului, ghetii, frigului si Cerului, avand atribute de character uranian.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dupa vechile traditii slavone, el ar fi “stramosul vanturilor din cele opt directii”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In cronicile vechi ruse, atunci cand apare, Stribog este asociat cu <span>Dažbog. Etimologic, numele sau ar corespunde unei filiere iraniene (<em>sri</em> inseamna slavit, venerat) sau <em>srira</em> care inseamna “frumos”, un epitet des intalnit pentru a descrie vanturile si puterea solara.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Originea numelui ar putea fi si tracica, derivata din <em>sreu </em>care inseamna “a curge” (Strei, nume de rau in Romania-Strymon, azi Struma, rau in Bulgaria).</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>In acest context, Stribog ar putea fi un zeu al apelor, un protector al apelor curgatoare si protectoare.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>In limbile slave comune, <em>srei</em> inseamna “culoare”.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Simargl</span> (<span>Semargl, Semargl-Pereplut) apare in documente ca doi zei, <em>Sim</em> si <em>Rigl</em>.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>E posibil ca forma originala a cuvantului ar fi <em>sedmor-golv</em> “cel cu sapte capete”.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Este considerat a fi echivalentul lui Simurgh din mitologia persana, un grifon cu corp de caine.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>El apare ca un leu inaripat, cateodata si sub forma unui caine inaripat, exact ca in mitologia iraniana, de unde s-a si tras concluzia ca ar fi un zeu zoomorf scitic sau sarmat.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Trebuie mentionat ca Simurgh era considerat “grifonul sfant” la vechii iranieni si avea un cult extreme de raspandit.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Conform “Cartilor lui Veles” (un text vechi slavon, pagan, scris pe niste scanduri de lemn, ce cuprinde o perioada cuprinsa intre secolele VII – IX) Simargl</span> ar fi tatal lui Skif (fondatorul Skifiei, Scitiei).</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Este mentionat si in Cronica Kieveana, ca fiind venerat de slavii pagani, inaintea crestinarii lor fortate de catre Vladimir si Iaroslav. Despre el se spune ca ar fi protectorul semintelor, ca element principal al fecundatiei vietii pe Pamant, dar si ca protector al plantelor si vegetatiei.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Mokosh</span> (<span lang="RU">Мокошь</span><span>)</span> Mokoš <span>este singura divinitate feminine din seria celor sapte zei primordiali ai slavilor de rasarit. Ea este “zeita care toarce lana”, fiind deseori reprezentata cu diformitati seminificative antropomorfe (capul mare si mainile lungi).</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Domnul profesor Sorin Paliga este de parere ca zeita </span>Mokoš ar fi echivalentul zeitei geto-dace Bendis, cea care torcea soarta tracilor sau “cea care innoada soarta oamenilor”, ce apare ca o zeita a sortii si a destinului.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Un munte din apropierea capitalei Cehiei, Praga, ii poarta numele (Mokošin).</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Originea cuvantului pare sa fie din radacina balto-slava, unde <em>meksti </em><span>sau<em> makstyti</em></span> inseamna “tors” sau “impletire” sau cuvantul <em>mok </em>ce inseamna “ud”, putand fi considerate o zeita roditoare a campului ud, udat de catre Cer, de masculinul Cerus, de catre Perun, Stapanul Lumii.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In rusa, <em>meshok</em> inseamna “sac”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Mokosh mai este si zeita datatoare de viata a oamenilor si chiar a zeilor. Este posibil ca ea sa aibe si attribute cosmogonice sau chiar teogonice.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Este posibil ca acest cult dedicate zeitei Mokosh sa fie pre indo-european, avand una tribute asemanator cu cel al Mamei Mari, ce incepe odata cu Paleoliticul Superior pana in Neolitic si Bronz, indo-europenii pastrand mari influente asupra religiei lor mostenite de la cei vechi.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Odata cu aparitia iudeo-crestinismului, rusii au numit-o “Sfanta Parascheva” sau “Sfanta Vineri”, ziua de Vineri fiind dedicate zeitei inca din timpuri pagane slavone.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Un ritual dedicat zeitei Mokish se numea <em>Mokrida</em> de la <em>mokr</em> “umed”, ritual la care se aduceau jertfe ce constau in materiale textile, in special din lana, in, prosopuri sau tricouri, ritual ce se mai pastreaza si astazi in Rusia, in bisericile crestin-ortodoxe.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Mokosh era sarbatorita pe 28 Octombrie, o zi din perioada cand se prepara canepa pentru a se face haine.Femeile nu aveau voie sa lucreze in aceasta zi, intru cinstea zeitei. Femeile care nu ascultau de aceasta datina, erau sortite pieirii, imbolnavindu-se sau orbind. Foarte interesant este ca si in traditia populara romaneasca, “cine coase vinerea ramane orb”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Ca zeite echivalente pot mention ape Hecate sau chiar pe Afrodita.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Referitor la perechea zeitei, unii mitologisti au considerat ca Perun ar fi fost sotul ei.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Cu aceasta zeita, am incheiat pantenonul principal al religiei slavone, compus din sapte divinitati primordiale.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">As mai putea enumera o serie de zei, destul de importanti.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Svarog</span> (<span>Сварог,</span> poloneza <span>Swaróg) este zeul focului, o divinitate solara, ce reprezinta Soarele etern, sub forma ciclica, simbolul lui fiind zvastica (kolovrat).</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Se pare ca acest zeu avea un cult al focului specific, reprezentand un spirit sub forma de foc vesnic, flacara focului etern reprezentand spiritual nemuritor avand si un rol de purificare.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Svarog reprezenta focul din vatra oamenilor, cel care ajuta la prepararea mancarii, vitala pentru existenta materiala umana, dar si focului din cuptorul unde se fabricau arme si unelte de lucru ori de lupta, asemenea lui Hefaistos al elenilor sau Vulcan al romanilor.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Fiul lui Svarog se numea <em>Svarožič</em></span> (forma latinizata e <em>Zuarasici </em><span>sau<em> Zuarasiz</em></span>) ceea ce reprezinta un diminutive al zeului mare, Svarog. Perechea lor era intalnita si la slavii apuseni, de pilda la polonezi sau la stramosii cehilor si slovacilor de azi, sub numele de <em><span>Svarasič.</span></em><span> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>La aceste grupuri de slavi apuseni, e posibil ca Svarožič sa fi reprezentat si un cult al razboiului si al jertfelor pentru razboi, respective al razbunarii fata de dusmanii de neam, ca misiune divina.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Mai este posibil ca <em>Svarožič sa </em>fie un alt epitet sub forba de diminutive al lui Svarog.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Tot Sorin Paliga ne spune ca Vladimir cel Mare, inainte sa se crestineze, adica prin anul 980, a construit un complex de temple unde erau venerati Perun, Veles, </span>Dažbog, Hors, Stribog, Simargl si Mokosh. Aici, vechii slavi isi sacrificau fii si fiicele. Mai tarziu, pe acest loc aflat in Kiev, unde a fost acest complex religios pagan, s-a construit catedrala Sfantului Vasile.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Petar Skok, autorul dictionarului sarbo-croat etimologic, considera urmatoarele: radacina <em>svar</em> poate fi asociata verbului <em>svariti</em>, care e posibil sa fie imprumutat din goticul <em>swaran </em>(engleza “to swear” a jura).</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In hinduism este numit <em>Svarga</em>, in mitologia slavilor, <em>Svarga</em> este Raiul, imparatia lui Svarog, parintele.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Svarog mai este reprezentat uneori ca un balaur ce scuipa foc. Alte mituri vechi il reprezinta ca pe un faurar cu puteri divine.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Tot in aceste mituri, Svarog lupta cu <span>Zmey-</span> (<span>Змей,</span><span> </span><span>zmiy</span>, <span>zmaj</span>, <span>zmej</span> and <span>żmij, romaneste zmeu) o fiinta mitologica asemenatoare dragonului sau balaurului, ce ia partea raului, fiind mereu infranta de catre reprezentantii Binelui. In mitologia crestina, Sfantul Gheorghe ucide balaurul ce reprezinta pe Diavol.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Legenda spune ca Zmeul ucidea oamenii, iar Svarog hotarase sa razbune oamenii, asa ca el lua un cleste de fierar sip rinse zmeul, dupa o lunga aventura de urmarire, dupa care il folosi pe zmeu in scopuri agricole, incepand a ara cu el.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Alte mituri spun ca Svarog, dup ace prinsese zmeul, folosi gura lui ca sa faca un canal ce separa lumea vie <em>Jav</em> de lumea mortilor <em>Nav</em>, urmand a adduce legea divina aplicata oamenilor ca lege sociala, numita <em>Prav</em>.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Simbolul capitalei Sloveniei Ljubljana este dragonul (</span><span lang="SL">Zmajski), unde avem si un pod celebru numit Podul Dragonului (Zmajski most) construit in 1901 de catre imparatul Francisc Iosif al Austro-Ungariei.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="SL">Ce ar fi foarte important de mentionat, este faptul ca<em> zmeul</em> nu este decat un imprumut al slavilor de la vecinii lor traci, insusi cuvantul<em> zmeu (</em>&#8220;zmey&#8221;, unde &#8220;y&#8221; este &#8220;u&#8221;) reprezentand un cuvant tracic.<br />

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="SL">In religia neo-pagana rusa, Svarog este zeul suprem, cu atribute creatoare ale vietii pe Pamant, dar si atribute teogonice si chiar cosmogonice, ce face parte din Triada Divina numita <em>Triglav</em>-</span>Триглав (<em>Trihlav</em>, <em><span lang="PL">Trygław</span></em>) ce reprezinta un grup de trei zei: Svarog, Perun si Dažbog.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Mai tarziu, Dažbog<span> a fost inlocuit de Svantevit sau Veles.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Aceasta triada era reprezentata intr-un stil policefal (trei capete). Aceste trei capete reprezinta Cerul, Pamantul si Infernul (lumea subpamanteana, iadul).</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>In iudeo-crestinism, Svarog este asociat cu Arhanghelul Mihail, cel care ucide pe Lucifer datorita rebeliunii acestuia impotriva lui Dumnezeu si a legii divine instaurata de acesta.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Animalele sale sunt: un mistret, un bou cu coarnele de aur, un cal si soim numit Varagna.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Tribul slav numit <em>Rani</em> sau <em>Rujani</em> de la <em>Arkona-</em></span><em>Аркона</em> <span>venera acest zeu, in cinstea caruia a fost construit marele templu dedicat lui Svantevit de la <em>Arkona</em>. Numele de <em>Arkona </em>mai apare si sub forma de <em>Archon, Arcon, Arekunda sau Arekonda</em> si se afla in Germania de astazi, pe o insula in Marea Baltica, numita Rugia (Rügen).</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">La templul de la Arkona era reprezentat tinand in mana Cornul Abundentei.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Tot in templul de la Arkona, Marele Preot ce se ocupa cu prevestirea oracolului, observa evenimentele ce vor avea loc in viitor, prin comportamentul unui cal alb, simbolul zeului.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>La sarbi si la croati, este cunoscut sub numele de <em>Svetovid.</em> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Conform traditiei, zeul Svantevit avea patru capete pentru a putea privi spre cele patru puncte cardinale (policefalia era intalnita la vechii slavi sub forma antropomorfa). </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>O alta traditie spune ca negustorii nu puteau cumpara ori vinde marfuri, pana nu aduceau ofrande lui Svantevit.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Asdar, el avea un character solar, dar si vegetal, templul de la Arkona fiind dedicat cultului agrar al zeului.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Din punct de vedere etimologic, prima parte a cuvantului <em>svet</em> inseamna “sfant” sau “lume” si se pronunta <em>svetu</em>. Partea a doua <em>vit</em> sau <em>vid</em> inseamna “a stii” sau “a vedea”.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>El apare ca un zeu al razboiului, al fertilitatii si al abundentei. Isi poarta intodeuna sabia intr-o mana, iar in cealalta mana tine un corn cu care bea <em>mied</em> sau </span><em>medovukha</em> (o bautura asemanatoare miedului la rusi.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">El are un cal alb, puternic si frumos, ce sta mereu in templul lui; preotii avand grija de cal. La vreme de razboi, el porneste pe calul lui cel alb.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Se spune ca daca slavii pagani castigau o batalie mai importanta, Victoria lor era oferita de catre Svantevit.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">El era reprezentat cu patru capete, doua privind in fata catre viitor, iar celelalte doua in spate catre trecut, asemenea lui Ianus.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Cultul lui Svetovid se apstreaza partial la sarbi, in iudeo-crestinism, odata cu sarbatoarea inchinata Sfantului Vitus “Vidovdan”.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Un alt zeu ce face parte din mitologia slavilor, este Rujevit-Ругевит <span>(Rugiewit</span>, Rugiwit). Se pare ca ar fi varianta locala a zeului Perun, fiind divinizat de catre <em>Ranii </em>din Rugia, insula din Marea Baltica unde se afla celebrul templu de la Arkona, ultima cetate pagana a slavilor.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Templul lui se afla pe aceasta insula, intr-un loc numit Charenza sau Karentia, loc ce reprezenta centrul administrative al tribului <em>Rani.</em></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Rujevit era personificat sub forma unui zeu cu sapte fete, la fel ca si Porevit- Поревит (<span>Porewit,</span> <span>Borevit</span>, <span>Borewit</span>, <span>Prove</span>), zeul padurii si lemnului.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Templul lui din lemn se afla tot la Charenza sau Karentia, unde se gasea si statuia zeului, reprezentata cu cinci fete si venerata de catre preotime.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">El era reprezentat sub forma antropomorfa, mai exact un om cu barba sau zoomorfa, sub forma unui tap si cu organelle genitale marite, reprezentand fertilitatea masculine si Natura. El are grija de ceic e s-au ratacit in paduri si pedepseste oamenii care distrug padurile si omoara animale.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Conform lui Czesław Białczyński, sora si sotia lui Porevit se numea Leša, zeita cunoscuta si sub numele de Borana.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Odata cu raspandirea crestinismului, Porevit a fost identificat cu Satan sau cu demonul slav Boruta.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Chernobog<em>-</em>Чернобог <em>(Crnobog</em>, <em>Czernobóg</em>, <em>Černobog</em>, <em>Zernebog)</em> este “Zeul Negru” in mitologia slavilor, echivalentul Diavolului din mitologia iudeo-crestina. Numele sau este compus din radacina <em>crno</em> “negru” si <em>bog</em> “domn”, “zeu”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Nu se stie cu exactitate daca a fost intradevar un zeu venerat de catre slavii pagani, sau doar o “porecla” aparuta odata cu iudeo-crestinismul, atribuita vreunuia dintre zeii vechi slavi. Insusi epitetul sau de “zeu negru” denota faptul ca in spatele acestui nume se ascunde o eticheta negative, pusa in stilul iudeo-crestin.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Pe baza unor texte de secol XII dintr-o cronica slavona, mitologistii au construit un zeu in antiteza, numit “Belobog” Белобог.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Tot la slavii din zona baltica, mai exista un zeu numit Podaga (Подага) . El era zeul vremii, vanatorii de tot felul, inclusive pescuitul, dar si al agriculturii.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Era venerat langa Luebeck, in nordul Germaniei.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Boris Rybakov era de parere ca acest epitet (Podaga) era unul feminine, atribuit unei zeite a Pamantului si Naturii.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">O alta zeita alaturi de Mokosh, era <span>Živa-</span>Жива (<span>Šiva</span>, <span>Šiwa</span>, <span>Siva</span>,<span>Żiwia</span>, <span>Sieba</span>, <span>Razivia) reprezentand fertilitatea si dragostea, numele ei insemnand “cea vie”.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Perechea ei masculine este zeul Siebog, ce personalizeaza casatoria si iubirea.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Ea era adorata de catre slavii din zona baltica.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">El este descries sub forma unui om cu barba lunga, tinand intr-o mana o facile, iar cu cealalta tinand un leu.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Ipabog (Ипабог) era un semi-zeu in mitologia slavilor, fiind si un mare erou si un vanator iscusit. El era reprezentat cu o forma mica, dar cu un cap urias si cu o barba lunga si dreapta. Pometii sai sunt proeminenti iar pe cap poarta un coif cu doua cornuri.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Juthrbog era zeul Lunii, avand un caracter urano-selenar. Sacrificiile in cinstea lui se faceau noaptea, la luna plina.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Karewit (Karevít) era zeul protector al Karentiei, din insula Rugia. Era reprezentat dezbracat, cu doua capete, avand un cap de bou pe piept si altul de cocos pe burta. Are sase capete; patru masculine si doua feminine. Pieptul sau arata un cap de leu.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Lada sau Lado (Лада) apare ca o zeita a , tineretii, veseliei, dragostei, armoniei si frumusetii la neo-paganii slavi. Posibil sa nu fi existat, iar cultul ei sa fi fost fabricat din necesitatea unui cult feminine care sa contina aceste elemente si virtuti divine.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Se pare ca zeita a fost inventata odata cu Renasterea.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Peklenc</span> (<span>Pekelnyboh</span>, <span>Pekelnypan</span>, <span>Pekelnik</span>, <span>Lokton</span>) era o divinitate chtonica. Acest zeu apare ca stapanul Infernului si are puterea divina de a judeca.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">El domneste peste “apa subterana” care, conform traditiei slave pagane, poate cauza cutremure pe Pamant cand zeul ordona “apei” sa iasa la suprafata.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Peklenc era capabil de asemenea sa pedepseasca toata lumea, deschizand “gauri” in pamant si inghitind sate si orase intregi.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Oźwiena (</span>Ozvěna) reprezenta “Zeita Ecoului” similara nimfei elene <em>Echo</em>.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">E posibil sa fi fost consoarta lui Veles.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Zeul Rod (<span>Род) este cea mai veche divinitate a slavilor. El reprezenta fecunditatea, deseori fiind insotit de mai multe zeite sau zane ce ajuta la nasteri. Mai era considerat si protector al neamului si al descendentilor din acel neam.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>El apare cu attribute cosmogonice si teogonice, fiind cel care a creat Universul si Zeii. Tot el stapaneste legea divina absoluta.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Se spune ca inainte sa existe Timpul, la inceputul formarii Cosmosului, Rod era singur. Apoi el s-a hotarat sa creeze Universul si cele trei lumi <em>Jav, Prav si Nav</em>.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Consoarta lui feminine este </span><span>Rodzanica</span>, numita si Rodenica.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Radacina slava <em>rod </em>inseamna “trib”numele zeului traducandu-se prin “datator de viata”.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Ca animale divine, vechii slavi venerau o pasare miraculoasa, numita Alkonost-<span>Алконо́ст</span> (алконст, алконос), pasare create de zeul Hors, ce aducea bucurie si fericirea in casele oamenilor.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Aceasta pasare avea un chip uman, feminin. Ea isi depune ouale pe malul marii, urmand a le arunca in apa pentru a calma marea pentru sase sau sapte zile. Aceasta pasare are o voce superba; cel ce o aude uita tot ce are in minte pe loc si ramane fermecat pe veci, sau ramanea orb, apoi murea.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Numele ei ar proveni de la zeita elena Alcyone, pe filiera bizantina. Legnda spune ca Alcyone a fost transformata intr-un pescarus de catre zei.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Biserica Ortodoxa Rusa considera pasarea Alkonost ca fiind “Vointa Domnului” sau chiar “Duhul Sfant”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Mai are si una tribute de mesager ce duce vesti din Rai catre lumea celor vii.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Ambele pasari mitologice, Sirin si Alkonost, erau supranumite “Pasarile Paradisului”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Ca sa se fereasca de aceasta pasare, oamenii trageau cu tunul, cu pusca, sau trageau clopotele. Orice zgomot asurzitor era bun deoarece speria pasarea.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Aceste pasari erau “periculoase” pentru muritori.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Ea este deseori reprezentata ca o vrajitoare, batrana si urata, rea si cruda, nemiloasa. Ea rapeste copii si ii mananca. Casa ei sta sustinuta de nist epicioare de gaina, casa ce este inconjurata de cranii de oameni; gardul este facut din oase umane, in varful carora se afla alte cranii.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Baba Yaga este prezentata si ca o femeie inteleapta, ce raspandeste intelepciunea ei oamenilor.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Numele ei se compune din <em>baba</em> care inseamna “mama” sau “mamaie”,”bunica” sau “femeie batrana” si <em>yaga </em>este probabil un diminutiv al numelui polonez Jadwiga (varianta poloneza a germanului Hedwig).</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Dupa vechile legende slavone, rusalka a fost jumatate peste, jumatate femeie, locuind in albia raurilor. Se spune ca noaptea aparea intr-o livada, pajiste sau poiana, unde incepea sa joace un dans specific, atragand prin vraja dansului orice muritor.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Deseori, mai multe<em> rusalki</em> se adunau pentru a incinge o hora.</p>

In loc de maini, se spune ca avea o coada de peste si ochi stralucitori ca focul. Despre el se mai spune ca deseori calatorea pe raul sau, calare pe un bustean, facand valuri mari.</p>

Det er forreten inte alls min mening att skemma bort er med so monga blogginlagg soher i semestertider, men ner hostellen er so generosa med gratis internet kan jag ju lika gerna passa po do och do,</p>
<p>Nu har vi i alla fall overgivit lilleputtmysfina Lubljana och oekt vidare till Triglav Nationalski Parkski (typ). Efter mkt tur med boendet bor vi  med ballikong, badkari och utsikt over sjo och alper en liten idyllisk bergsby som heter Bohinj.Googla po den vetja.<br />
Men allt er inte frid och frojd! Vid inongen till vort boende finns en varningsskylt for ekorrar, &#8220;squirrels&#8221;. De varnar for att de onda smo liven (her skulle jag referera till mina tidigare bloggar om mordarekorrar om jag lyckats fo fram adressen). De sager att de kan ta sig in i rummen om man lemnar dem obevakade eller ballikongdorren oppen samt att de kan stjela ens mat samt (underforstott) att man ska passa sig so att de inte helt sonika bryter sig in och tar ens pass och biter en i somnen. Ibland hoer jag merkliga ljud fron korridren utanfor och ser stora ekorrar i min fantasi. De er forstoss ute efter mitt pass/liv/sjel/etc och det kenns ju inte bra. Forst fogelbajset och nu detta. Emma deremot er redd for bjornarna her. Her finns alltso mycket bjornar, svarta och bruna tror jag det var. Det er dessutom so, har jag lest, att det er flyktingbjornar som kommit fron balkan ner det var krig der och nu trivs de her (och har sekert hoerda revirkrig/gangbrok med ekorrarna). Noval, farliga djur alltso.<br />
Nu blir det inget mer skrivet for nu ska jag forsoka boka vort nesta boende! Blir det i Wien, Zagreb eller Salzburg? Eller Berlin!? Det vet man inte sekert, for jag er lurig.</p>
<p>Tack forresten for alla kommentarer, jag leser dom och blir jetteglad men hinner inte svara for internettiden er jemt begrensad.</p>
<p>Hejs svejs po er, imorgon ska vi alpvandra (vill jag bara skryta med) och sen kajakpaddla (ville jag ockso skryta med).</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>We had a few lucky serendipitous moments today – gotta love those in your travels.  First, we stumbled upon a once-a-month market at the Triglav National Park Office.  Farmers and vendors from the surrounding mountains (and from within the park I think) were selling their goods at booths.  The offerings were mainly honey products.  Beekeeping is big business in the Julian Alps; we even saw a traditional bee “box” on our hike to Vintgar Gorge.  There were three kinds of honey that we could identify: pure honey, crytallized (dark), and creamy (whitish.)  A few vendors had what looked like honey wine or liqueur and some kind of oil?  I&#8217;m not sure if that&#8217;s even possible, and if it is, it&#8217;d be a bizarre flavor.  There was also alpine milk – don&#8217;t know how that&#8217;s different from other milk, maybe a different cow breed or it&#8217;s all-natural – and some kinds of herbal products and a few baked goods.</p>
<p>We have only seen white people in Slovenia except for the occasional (and obligatory) group of Chinese tourists.  In light of that, it was to our great astonishment and delight to pass by a flamboyant Rastafarian with long dreads signing at the top of his lungs and bobbing his head to his music while driving his little old beetle bug that screamed “RASTA!”  It was mostly green with a yellow and red stripe across the middle length-wise and a rainbow flag running down the back.  The rasta-man saw our excitement and waved at us.  All I can say about that encounter is – he must be used to turning heads in all-white Slovenia!</p>
<p>A caravan of cars with large bows on their roofs drove by us, honking their horns.  We knew it was for a wedding because we had seen the same thing in Sete, France.  We heard more honking horns intermittently throughout the day, so there must have been many weddings on this mid-May Saturday.  Looks like their wedding season starts with ours.  Later today we saw a car covered in white bows – guess it was the bride and groom themselves?  We thought of Brian today (C&#8217;s old co-worker) because he married Christine at 2:00 today in PA, 3 days short of our 1-year anniversary.</p>
<p>We saw a bunch of stinky mountain guys donning long beards at the bus stop today, reminded me of Appalachian and Swiss hillbillies.</p>
<p>We bought local chocolate made of alpine milk – made just a few miles away in Lesce!  Very rich.  The Bled dessert specialty, called kremna rezina, looks decadent too; layer of custard with cream on top, sandwiched with flaky pastry.  Can&#8217;t wait to try it, especially since it&#8217;s unique to this town.</p>
<p>There are solar water panels on the roof of our apartment!</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><em><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;">This morning the weather looked terrible, but we were here and it wasn’t going to stop us. We decided to combine the castle on Lake Bled and Vintgar Gorge today since there is so much to do here. We headed out around 1030 and saw a tiny market in front of the Triglav Nat’l Park visitor center. There was a small display of local goods including many different types of honey and honey products. We bought a nice map of the park for future reference and got some help from two local girls working there. Next, we continued down to the lake through the rain and went into the tourist office. We bought another nice map of the Bled area then headed over towards the castle. The Saint Martin church is at the foot of the mountain the castle is on, so we checked it out. It is a newer church, and very different in layout than the churches in Italy. Back out tin the rain, we trudged up the hill to the castle, only to be disappointed by an unexpected 7 EUR/person admission fee…not worth it! We didn’t linger and went down the north side of the mountains towards Vintgar Gorge. The rain finally quit so we stopped for lunch on a bench on the side of the road to Vintgar. It had a nice view of an open field, and we were almost constantly entertained by honking cars with wedding parties, the soccer game nearby, or birds flying around. The route to Vintgar took us through the tiny village of Podhom, with its small chalet style houses crowding the one lane road. The admission into the gorge was 4 EUR/person; very reasonable considering it is 1.6 km long. This place was simply incredible. The trail was a boardwalk hanging off the cliff for most of the way, crossing the crystal clear river 4 times. It was cool and damp in there, with fog hanging just above the river in places. The pictures will have to tell the rest of the story! The gorge ended in a violent waterfall that the trail crossed directly above, amazing! We met some interesting wildlife on the way out of the gorge including the biggest slugs and snails we have ever seen, and a huge black and orange spotted salamander. The way back to Bled was mostly on small roads that took us through the town of Zasip, where we spent half the time dodging manure on the road. The top of my foot began to hurt badly, so the walk back to the apartment felt very long, and we got in around 1830. Dinner was spaghetti with pesto sauce, ground beef, and the remaining broccoli and cauliflower. We took a brief walk around the neighborhood at dusk, much to the chagrin of my foot. The rest of the evening was more journal writing while listening to the Ipod.</span></em></p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>We got a ride to the bus station from the owner of our apartment in Bled.  On the way over we asked where most of her guests were from.  There was the obvious &#8211; Austria and Italy, Slovenia&#8217;s neighbors – and to our surprise, she gets a lot of Israelis, Australians, and Brits.  We have met a lot of Brits and Aussies in our travels, but we haven&#8217;t met any Israelis.  She doesn&#8217;t get many Americans.</p>
<p>A group of strange dark-colored ducks was swimming around on Bohinj Lake, a new kind of duck for us.  They were mostly very dark, almost black, with dark green necks.  The aggressive birds were constantly on the offense, chasing and attacking the mallard ducks.</p>
<p>Lake Bohinj is much less built up than Lake Bled.  Bled started out as a prime tourist destination over a century ago, so it&#8217;s had much more time to overdevelop with large hotels.  Bohinj doesn&#8217;t have any of that.  It&#8217;s still touristy, but there are very few people here!  Our hotel is so empty, reception knew who I was!  Most of the area is encompassed by the Triglav National Park so it has a nice wild feel about it – a good change from Bled.  Even though Bled was plenty interesting, the town was bigger and more crowded /trafficy than we anticipated.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ve caught on to a few very basic Slovene words.  The Slovene equivalent of the Italian “pronto” is “prosim,” used in the situation: “Yes? Go ahead / Can I help you?”  People say zeveo (the z sounds like the second “g” in garage) for informal hello&#8217;s and goodbye&#8217;s; we have often heard “ciao” for goodbye too, an obvious Italian influence.  Also heard “adieu” for goodbye and “dobro” for thank you /alright?  The Slovenian equivalent to “bon apetit” is “dober tek.”  The formal greeting is “dober dan.”  We&#8217;ve been able to pick out “hvala” for “thank you” the most frequently.  We&#8217;ve had to ask many times, “govorite anglesko?” (s has a carat over it, pronounced like “sh”) / “Do you speak English?”  And the answer is always “yes” in English.</p>
<p>The lake and river in Bohinj are a similar glacier-like color, but markedly greener, not sure why.</p>

<p style="margin-right:6pt;"><em><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;">Today, we made the quick bus journey to Lake Bohinj, about 25 km west of Bled. Amazingly, it didn’t rain on us all day, despite rain being nearby. We were up and about at 0930, and scraped up a breakfast together of what food was left, which wasn’t much. We paid the owner, and that was only the second time we had seen her the whole time. She offered to take us to the bus station, which we readily accepted. That helped us out a lot because the station is almost 1 km away. We got on the 11:20 Alpetour bus to Bohinj with no problem, and oddly, you pay the bus driver directly. The ride was beautiful, and lasted about 40 minutes. The bus route ended in Ribcev Laz, the village on the east end of Lake Bohinj. From here it was a 1km hike up to the next town, Stara Fuzina, where Residence Triglav is located. It turns out that the reception desk is open all day except Wednesdays when it is closed from 1100 to 1500, and of course we got there at 1230. Fortunately, there is a restaurant downstairs, so we had lunch to help pass the time before we could check in. I had a pasta dish with salmon that was ok, and B had a salad that had turkey, corn, and pickles in it, among other things. Nothing special, but relatively cheap. We dragged it out until about 1400, looking at the Nat’l Park map and watching the weather unfold over the lake. We eventually moved to a bench next to the road, where B studied some Swedish while I talked to mom and dad on the phone for a bit. Mom told that gas prices in Meadville have hit $3.82…absolutely crazy. I’m not looking forward to having to pay that much for gas. When we left it was $3.30 in Raleigh. 1500 finally rolled around and we checked into the apartment; it is not nearly as nice as the one in Bled though. We dumped our stuff and headed back to Ribcev Laz to get groceries. Along the way we watched two small snakes duke it out on the side of the road, and ducks fight over territory on the lake…fun to watch. We spent about 45 EUR at the Mercator, getting some pretty weird stuff this time, including chocolate with cinnamon and tarragon flavor. Back at the apartment, we managed to cook some rice and veggies with one burner in the teeny kitchen. It is a poorly equipped kitchen, and we had to ask for a pan from a vacant apartment! We watched some more CNN while eating&#8230;Obama and Clinton split Oregon and Kentucky, oil prices passed $133/barrel, and Manchester United and Chelsea are playing in the European soccor final in Moscow tonight. I wrapped my hurt foot with duct tape; hopefully we can go hiking tomorrow. </span></em></p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><img src="http://firou.wordpress.com/files/2007/12/041.thumbnail.jpg" alt="041.jpg" />This year in August, a distinguished group of Slovene politicians, including prime minister Janez Jan<span style="font-size:11pt;color:black;font-family:Arial;">ša </span>and his girlfriend Ur<span style="font-size:11pt;color:black;font-family:Arial;">š</span>ka (<em>Od nékdej lepé so Ljubljanke slovele/al lepši od Urške bilo ni nobene</em>) climbed Mount Triglav in order to render <a href="http://www.ukom.gov.si/eng/slovenia/publications/slovenia-news/5221/5235/">homage</a> to Jakob Alja<span><span><span>ž and celebrate his 80th anniversary of death. Alja<span style="font-size:11pt;color:black;font-family:Arial;">ž</span> is one of the Slovene myths I came across while practising for the <em>izpit na visokem ravne</em> (equal to the CPE, but not really) which I never took. Alja<span style="font-size:11pt;color:black;font-family:Arial;">ž</span>, born in 1845 in Zavrh pod Smarno Goro, was a Slovene priest, composer and passionate mountaineer. In 1895 he bought the top of the Triglav for a symbolic sum, took some <em>fanti</em> with him and erected a rocket-shaped metal tower on the peak of the holy mountain. This tiny little rocket-shape tower-thing became soon a symbol of the national struggle against the grim Austrians. Well, at least the story is co<a href="http://firou.wordpress.com/files/2007/12/04.jpg" title="04.jpg"></a>nstructed like this. And as we know, stories are more stable than even the sturdiest moutain hut. Besides the tower the rebelling priest bequeathed to the Slovenes the song <em>Oj Triglav, moj dom</em>. Oh Triglav, my home&#8230;.just have a look at the 50 Cent coin. </span></span></span></p>
