To Aru Majutsu no Index – Misaka Misaka

If you remember the post this picture is from, this really shouldn’t come as a surprise, but I love the character of MISAKA, which could be any one of the thousands of clones of Mikoto Misaka. Back then I described how awesome she was by the way she talks in the third person, and also narrates her life. This is awesome. Completely awesome. Compile that with the fact that she’s very emotionless, and you have a real winner of a character.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 – Yuuki Onozawa

So there’s really not many choices here, and I’m going with Yuuki. Truthfully, he’s nothing special, but I like the fact that, despite being a child, he thinks like a mature person, in that he tries to carry burdens and not slow any other the trio down with his problems (this could also be veiwed as immaturity….I think it might be a little of both). He’s pretty much a class act, and it sucks that…..well I don’t want to spoil anything (even though I kind of just did).

To-LOVE-ru – Yui Kotegawa

This choice might be a surprise to many of you, but let’s face it, Rito is a bitch who doesn’t take advantage of Lala, and Lala is annoying a lot of the time. I realize most people would pick Golden Darkness, and going by my typical choices of character, I should be choosing Golden Darkness too. But I’m not, and this surprises even me.

Every scene with Yui is just somehow better others. I love how she is a strict person, and yet she’s always found in the middle of boob grabbing or something (so is everyone else in this show). I don’t know, I just like her general personality, I can’t really put my finger on it. Maybe I feed off her embarrassment? Who knows.

Toradora! – Taiga Aisaka

Here we have Rie Kugimiya’s best voice acting job ever. Taiga is certainly a tsundere type character, in that she has a mean streak a mile long, but also has a very emotional side, but keeps her emotions bottled up. However to say that she is a typical tsundere character is kind of wrong, becuase she is a bit different.

Unlike a typical tsundere character, who is simply just not honest with their feelings, Taiga actually is honest with her feelings. She knows that she loves Ryuuji. But she chooses to put her own feelings aside, because she wants Minorin (who also likes Ryuuji) to be happy. As a person, she is actually very giving (for Christmas, she buys presents for the unfortunate….how many of you do that?….I don’t). So yes, she won’t hesitate to beat your ass, and yes, she has a flat chest, and yes she has a soft side, and yes, she is short. But unlike characters such as Shana and Louise, she doesn’t really ask “What is wrong with me?” when she experiances love. She does’nt spend a WHOLE FUCKING SECOND SEASON ASKING PEOPLE WHAT LOVE IS. She doesn’t ask, “Why am I feeling like this?” She knows why she feels the way she does, she just doesn’t want to (at first), and this coupled with the awesomeness of Rie Kugimiya, creates an awesome character.

Touch – Shohei Haruda

He is the fuckin MAN. I mean, let’s look at the facts, he seems to already know everything that’s going to happen and that is happening. I mean, he seems to have been put there as a literary device in the form of a huge ass boxer who can kick everyone’s ass. He rules. Do I think he should have gotten more screen time? No. Also, he reminds me of Rocky. And yes, I did copy and paste this from my review of Touch.

Trigun – Vash the Stampede

Vash kicks ass. Just look at the picture. Do you notice any bullets in Vash? No, because you can’t hit him, he’s too nasty. Actualy, he gets wounded a lot, as you can tell from his body’s appearance in episode…….well in one of the episodes anyway. Vash is an ass kicker, and the way he goes about ass kicking is pretty ass kickerific. He doesn’t shoot to kill, but still wins every time (this is also the reason for his numerous scars). It’s hard for me to say exactly what is awesome about Vash. His peronality? His fighting skills? If you really want to know, what Trigun.

Tsukuyomi: MOON PHASE – Elfried

Honestly, there weren’t many characters to choose from, but I liked Elfried most, and I actully only have a vauge idea of why.

1. Hazuki was annoying
2. Kohei was boring
3. The Grandfather was pretty cool, but Elfriede:

• Has awesome appearance.
• Has that demeanor like she secretly runs everything, and has control of everything.
• Has awesome conversations with the grandfather

The reason in bold is the most prominant reason why I chose her. I loved it every time she talked, and her conversations with the grandfather were always amusing. It’s like she suddenly became older once she started banging him (they definitely banged).

Tsuyokiss – Sunao Konoe

This one is pretty simple. First I’ll say that I actually found this show to be very enjoyable. I liked it and it was pretty good the bee’s knees. As for the main character, I just like the fact that all she wants to do is create a drama club, and no one will let her, and she keeps trying and trying and trying. I love the determination. I also love the connection that she comes to realize she shares with Leo. This show kicked ass, and needs more credit now (how old is this show? 2006? 2006 was a great year for anime, there were so many good shows (Shana)).

The next part will conclude this epically long post. Hopefully I get back from yet another themed part tomorrow in time. THEMED PARTIES RULEEEEE!!!!

Ok, so it’s a few weeks old, but we’re still excited about it. Considering that we’ve had to wait almost ten years for this movie to happen, we think it’s acceptable to still be excited about it.

• Naruto Shippuuden – 135: y en este capítulo Itachi muere dos veces… XD En fin, un larguísimo recordatorio de la relación entre Itachi y Sasuke vemos al primero palmar un par de veces a manos de su hermano… Se puede ver, pero poco más.

  

• Bleach – 246: los shinigamis, por fin, descubren dónde se encuentra retenido el viejo jefazo y deciden entrar a buscarle… dividiéndose en grupos. Sigue siendo un coñazo… ojalá se terminase de una vez, pero… no me extraña que no lo haga. ¡Tite Kubo se está tomando demasiados descansos últimamente! ¿Para qué avanzar si total el autor no lo ha hecho todavía?

  

• Bones – 5×08: y el abuelo de Booth – que se parece sospechosamente al padre de Gibbs, por cierto – entra en escena y vaya vista tiene el cabroncete… y qué callado se lo tenía Brennan… Mola el personaje, la temática del capítulo… no tanto. Buen capítulo.

  

• The Mentalist – 2×08: Red John’s back! Y se carga al equipo de Bosco al completo para devolverle el caso al equipo de Lisbon… como Jane quería. Es un buen capítulo, pelín duro con Jane, pero un buen capítulo a fin de cuentas. ¿Y ese final? Si Red John es capaz de entrar en la sede del CBI sin problemas… lo más probable es que Jane le haya visto alguna vez. ¿A quién elegirán para interpretar a Red John?

  

• Flash Forward – 1×09: y como había pocos personajes en liza vamos a añadir además a la chica japonesa del “sueño” del compañero de trabajo de la chica del protagonista… Nahh, es mucho más sencillo de lo que parece. Claro, las visiones de los “sueños” son bastante engañosas… si no conoces las dos partes todavía más. No me ha desagradado el capítulo pero tampoco es una serie tan buena.

  

• Fringe – 2×08: cuántas cosas en este capítulo… uno de los “vigilantes” (aunque ellos les llamen “observadores”) – sí, hay más de uno – se enamora de una chica y la salva de la muerte lo que provoca que el resto de los Observadores le llamen al orden y envíen a un asesino especializado en arreglar sus… errores. Descubrimos más cosas sobre qué paso con Peter de pequeño y también que a Olivia o a su sobrina, que no lo veo yo muy claro, se le van a poner muy chungas las cosas a partir de ya… Buen capítulo.

  

• Sanctuary – 1×10: dos cosas que se muestran en este episodio: el padre de la “Rowling” y una corporación rival de Santuario… La Sext…, perdón, La Secta. Con ese nombre no creo que sean buenos, no… XD Además de eso, peleas ilegales entre mutados (no recuerdo cómo les llaman, sorry).

  

• Doctor Mateo – 2×12: pues… Mateo descubre que el padre de Adriana engaña a su mujer y no sabe qué hacer… Pedro recibe la ayuda, no solicitada, de su padre biológico, del policía enrrollado con su madre y del doctor que no sabe por qué se mete pero lo hace igualmente y, para finalizar, Metro y los Politanos dan su primer concierto después de sabe-Dios cuántos años y no sale del todo bien… La verdad es que es de los capítulos que más flojos me han parecido, pero bueno… habrá que esperar a ver qué tal sigue, no creo que falte mucho de esta temporada.

  

• Naruto Shippuuden – 136: Sasuke contra Itachi… después de otro capítulo lleno de flashbacks sobre la relación entre ambos hermanos, Sasuke pierde un ojo… o eso parece. Porque vamos… bueno, esta parte se hace un poco pesada, en realidad muy pesada… Qué lástima, pero reconozco que era complicado hacer un buen traslado del manga al anime. Puede mejorar.

  

• El Internado – 6×02: lo de esta serie con Perdidos es… si el tema aquel de la luz en el bosque ya recordaba (y como) al final de la primera temporada… ¿qué se puede decir del final de este capítulo? En fin, la parte de los niños cada vez es más aburrida – y no porque sean niños, si no porque es aburrida -, la de la chacha encerrada en un psiquiátrico sumamente absurda y… ¿alguien ha visto al que salió de Compañeros? Porque vamos… papelón tiene esta temporada, ehh. Van a tener que aligerar el exceso de personajes porque están pasando la mayoría prácticamente inadvertidos…

  

• Prison Break – 4×14: pues… si os digo que no me he enterado de nada… ¿os lo creeríais? Es que pasan muchas cosas pero casi ninguna de ellas interesante… lo más que “Jacob” ha muerto y que a Scofield le tiene pillado la Compañía para operarle… a cambio de los servicios de Lincoln. Aburrido, muy aburrido.

  

• 24 – 1×09: y a las 8 horas, 48 minutos y 28 segundos aproximadamente… ¡Jack Bauer casi se queda dormido! Y su mujer… mira que “engañarle” con el chiflado de Prison Break… si es que no puede ser. Entretenido.

  

• Los Soprano – 2×03: ¿Hasta lueguito, joder? Es un grandísimo título para un capítulo… Lo que está claro es que la hija de Tony Soprano está descontrolada… O quizás no tanto. Y ese nuevo personaje es un poco salvaje demás, es un contraste interesante.

  

• Monster – 1×05: Muy bien, dr. Tenma, muy bien. Los hermanos mellizos eran dos, un chico y una chica. Sólo le ha llevado darse cuenta de ello cuatro o cinco años… Por algo era considerado uno de los mejores cirujanos residentes en Alemania… XD El capítulo… así, así, Nina siempre me ha parecido algo sosa, así que… nada inesperado.

  

• House – 6×08: lástima, a pesar del puñetazo, la serie se va desinflando poco a poco… y tampoco podría decirse que el puñetazo mole tanto, pero claro… se ponen tan pesados con la no-relación entre House y Cuddy que acaban cansando. En fin, esperemos que después de esto recuperen el ritmo y sigan como empezaron la temporada.

  

• The Big Bang Theory – 3×09: bueno… podría ser que se avecinase un cambio importante a la serie… o quizás dos: la “boda” de Howard y la expulsión de Sheldon, Raj y Leonard de la universidad… o quizás ninguna de ellas. No sé, no me ha acabado de convencer aunque eso de que Howard tenga fantasías con Starbuck en la bañera… XD

  

• How I Meet Your Mother – 5×09: pues… la mirada asesina de Lily trae evidentes recuerdos de Buffy… El padre de Lily trae evidentes recuerdos de Búscate la vida… Y la torta trae recuerdos de esos momentazos que HIMYM tenía antes… y que ya no tiene. Qué lástima descubrirlo así. Es una serie correctita y tal, pero… nada más.

  

• Smallville – 9×09: ¿qué vio Lois mientras estaba en el futuro? Pues tenéis todo un capítulo para enteraros… incluso hay escena de sexo en Smallville… la segunda en nueve temporadas (más o menos). ¿Qué le voy a hacer? Me gusta esta serie.

  

• Lie To Me – 2×08: tres días antes de Navidad – sí, las series llevan su propio ritmo – Lightman es enviado a Kabul para ayudar en el rescate de dos marines retenidos por los talibanes… guardándole el secreto a su hija que no se lo toma especialmente bien…

  

• Heroes – 4×11: pues… un capítulo bastante divertido, tres cenas de Acción de Gracias con diversos resultados aunque todas ellas acaban como el rosario de la aurora… Los personajes añadidos a la trama Bennet son… una muestra de que la madre, finalmente sobra; la trama del circo comienza a ser muy cargante… aunque estoy deseando ver a T-Bag desatada; y la trama de los Petrelli… en fin, necesitan una mejora clara. Y no sé si lo de poner a todo el mundo en la carretera servirá de algo.

  

• The Vampire Diaries – 1×10: pues… como suponía Logan es un vampiro, pero en esta serie los vampiros recién convertidos… como que no duran demasiado. Elena y Stefan se lo montan, pero ella descubre que es calcadita a la vampiresa que le transformó y claro… no se lo toma demasiado bien y se pira… y atropella a un vampiro lo que produce un accidente de tráfico… Cosas veredes.

  

• Death Note – 01: pues… flojilla, ¿no? O sea… no me pegan las apariencias en movimiento de los personajes, el doblaje español no parece demasiado acertado y la selección de música para el opening, y ya que estamos el propio opening, son… directamente malos. Así que… ¿cómo se pudo alguien enganchar a esta serie viendo el anime?

  

• V(2009) – 1×04: y… los lagartos siguen con su plan para la humanidad con mucha paciencia, pero que mucha paciencia. Además descubrimos que Freddy no es quien yo pensaba al principio – o quizás sí, pero como no lo recuerdo ahora mismo supondré que no -… ¿o era Elizabeth a la que me refería? Bahh, lo que sea. Anna sigue tejiendo su red sobre el hijo de Juliet y sigo con la duda de si Supergirl será buena o mala… personalmente me gusta mucho la serie y el ritmo que le están imprimiendo… así que no, no entiendo las críticas que le están cayendo.

  

• Trigun – 01: esta, en cambio, me ha gustado bastante más. Se toma bastantes libertades pero lo que es el “espíritu” de Vash lo capta a la perfección desde el primer momento. Tampoco puedo decir que el doblaje sea especialmente bueno, pero… la serie parece entretenida. Es más de lo que se puede decir sobre Death Note (el anime, claro).

  

• Castle – 2×10: a ver… me gustan mucho los personajes de Beckett y de Alexis, pero… ¿no están forzando demasiado los guionistas la relación entre ambas? A fin de cuentas, Beckett no deja de ser una compañera de “trabajo” de su padre y se pueden haber visto en… ¿cuántas ocasiones? Da igual, parece evidente a dónde quieren llegar y a mí no me desagrada, así que… Lo del hombre con dos mujeres que resulta ser… pues me pareció un poco desaprovechado, pero bueno era lo menos importante del capítulo así que tampoco importa demasiado.

  

• Bleach – 247: estoy yo pensando que muchos de los problemas de Tite Kubo a la hora de continuar Bleach (además, obviamente, de la falta de posts de Laura en el QMMAM para saber hacia dónde continuar con la serie) es la “adaptación” al anime… Seguro que estaba viendo esto y el tío pensaba: “joer, ¿cómo voy a superar la idea de que Muramasa sea una zampatokou tenia? ¡Es insuperable!”. Y claro, el tío se ha bloqueado…

  

• NCIS – 7×09: otra con acción de gracias de fondo… Ducky prepara una cena y nadie puede ir por compromisos previos y se lían las cosas cuando tienen que investigar la muerte de un marine que vigila al grupo de niños que preparan las estrategias militares del ejército de los USA… es entretenido, pero… no deja de ser correctillo. Nada más.

  

• The Beast – 1×12: y en el penúltimo capítulo de la serie… Barker es acusado de asesinar a un sospechoso y la CIA va detrás de él, pero el novato descubre que es todo una trampa y… Barker se desata… Curiosamente, creo que es la primera vez que la rubia – personaje desaprovechado se mire como se mire – y Barker se encuentran en la serie… Me ha gustado bastante, la verdad.

  

• NCIS Los Angeles – 1×09: invitada especial en este capítulo… ¡Abby! Persiguiendo a un asesino llamado el Fantasma porque nunca deja huellas… pero claro, el asesino sabe que Abby está tras él y decide atraerla hasta Los Angeles para deshacerse de ella… Nuevamente el personaje de la “original” que aparece en esta serie está mejor aprovechado que en la suya propia… Los guionistas de la serie original deberían hacérselo mirar… Ahora mismo es más interesante esta que la otra.

  

• Naruto Shippuuden – 137: penúltimo paso en la batalla entre Sasuke e Itachi con el Amateratsu como protagonista principal de la misma… pero a Sasuke aún le quedan dos cartas que jugar… Bueno… no se puede decir que estén muy logrados, pero tampoco se puede decir nada malo de ellos, así que… bien. Una buena adaptación.

  

• PlanetES – 01: PlanetES es la historia de un grupo de basureros espaciales que se encargan de recoger… la basura espacial que se está acumulando alrededor de la Tierra y ha provocado accidentes espaciales. La llegada de una novata llena de sueños y que ve a los astronautas como caballeros hace que se remueva un poco la conciencia de los trabajadores curtidos o… ¿no les hacía falta?

  

• El Intrépido Batman – 1×01: nueva serie de animación con Batman como protagonista y la compañía de la plana mayor del Universo DC en esta serie que, a pesar de llamarse el Intrépido Batman en español, en su versión original recibía el nombre de The Brave and The Bold… En este episodio, acompañando a Batman, Green Arrow para enfrentarse al Rey Reloj y Blue Beetle, el nuevo, y una raza de alienígenas para luchar con Kanjar Ro… Es entretenido pero… pelín infantil. Lo cual está bien porque es para quien está dirigida la serie.

  

• Caprica – 1×00: pero… ¿esto no iba a ser una serie, más o menos, regular? Por eso no me había puesto a verla hasta el momento. Investigando un poco, Wikipedia ya sabéis, he descubierto que se espera su estreno para enero de 2010. En fin… la historia comienza 58 años antes de la historia contada en Galactica con un comandante Adama que es todavía un niño… Los cylon dando sus primeros pasos y la demostración de que cualquier cosa que se haga, aunque sea por una buena razón – y creo que el Dr. Greystone cree tenerla – puede acabar mal… pero que muy mal.

  

• Salem’s Lot: segunda adaptación de la novela de Stephen King que se pasa por el forro todo el espíritu de la misma y, sobre todo, lo que quería contar S.K. con ella… Tiene alguna cosa entretenida y tal, pero si digo que es bastante más floja que la original, siendo la original lo floja que es, pues… como que no es muy buena. No, no, no.

Películas:

• Infectados: el ser humano, así en general, es una persona bastante asquerosa… Y es que es realmente desagradable ver cómo se van comportando los protagonistas dejando a gente atrás e incluso te alegras cuando les pasan cosas malas a ellos… Qué desagradable. En otro orden de cosas, no está del todo mal, pero te deja una sensación muy mala.

• Harry Potter y el misterio del príncipe: aprovechando que ha salido en dvd, que la he comprado y que he tenido tiempo para verla, pues… ¿qué mejor momento para recuperarla? Pues eso. Me ha gustado más en esta segunda ocasión que la he visto y me lleva a pensar que, escena de Harry ligando con la camarera aparte, el mayor problema que tuve con ella la primera vez que la ví fue mi falta total y absoluta de memoria sobre el libro que, supuestamente, adaptan…

The Dust of the Mock Exams has settled and all that is left is… a lot I guess… as far as I know pretty much no one was really affected by the mock exam period… But, anyway, time to do a QUICK run down of the last three weeks of activity… from present to past.

Mock Exams!

Basically, my results are as follows (this includes various tests we may have gotten back).

Maths! The one that EVERYONE dreaded. Not to mention the one that MOST people in each group hadn’t been taught all the subject material. I got an E with 35 marks, as far as I know, this is fairly good…

Physics! Another one that was let down by the lack of teachering, although this is due to Fletch’s unfortunate illness she has been suffering since last Monday. I got a D with 52%, I know that in my group Ash beat me with 55% and Max got pretty muchz the same. Other groups, Chloé got the same as me, Adam being a silly FOOL got like 82% or something like that, can’t quite remember… I just know it is an A…

Chemistry! An exam which I hoped to wipe the smug smile Mr Hillier has on his face towards me due to me not showing all my working and what not… but oh look, 80% I got an A! In yo’ face Mr Hillier… granted, upon that he took a shining to me and saying how what with my low expectations from the GCSE results, I’m gonna give them statistics people some fun.

BIOLOGY! This one is last because it is the one I think I could possibly be most proud of… I got a C in the mock exam at 60%… as far as I know… this was the best in our group… so that is pretty FINE! We also got Mr Wheeler’s end o’ unit test… I got an A with 79% (in any other science it’d be a B with everyone else’s marks being lower) with 23/29… highest in the class! mmm, mm, mmmmmmmmmmmmm…

I also got my maths challenge result back, I got… 58!! Which is a Bronze! I tried to not be a jerk about it… but when I was told I was also the last to be told, got the highest in the group, so I started to scribble it down in BIG letters on the back of my hand whilst Mr Hydes said, “And congratulations to Chris who got a Bronze.” Meaning everyone turned to look at me, and instead of my normal, “eh… it doesn’t really matter.” lean on hand demeanour I normally have, I was happily scrawling my result on my hand… ah well…

Really that is it for achievement… now it is just trying to roughly remember what I may have done over the last two to three weeks… which didn’t have any revision in, I can tell you that.

At some point it was Tom Baine’s birthday so we went out and had Birthday Waffles! My treat! Then later that day we went to Prezzos (or is it Prezzo’s) where we ate to celebrate my Sister’s Birthday that had been the day before. This, for me, consisted of a Quatro Formaggi which was soon made Cinquo (?) due to the addition of parmesan cheese. Then for desert I took a stab at a slice of Choco fudge cake… however, I began to feel ill and bloated, so I could not finish it…. sadly.

Other events include…….. not much really…  I’m sure there may have been some stuff to talk about, but sadly I can’t remember it all…

Well, that is a slight lie… (by slight I mean huge, I just don’t trust any of you with it…) cause I drew a picture based on something in my mind that has been running around for months… Then I thought, I could try this project… however it failed because I forgot I can’t actually draw, and although it could be accepted, in my mind and when I look at it whilst drawing, I hate it… doesn’t help I can’t draw hands EVER… or feet.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! I can’t believe I forgot this….

ANIME! So Max and anyone not really interested in this can just skip ahead until the next chunk of bold writing, I guess…

Okay, so I have recently watched all of Trigun… to be honest… I FUCKING LOVED IT! It wasn’t as good as some of the other things I’ve seen, like FMA and Elemental Gelade. It didn’t have any teary eye moments… there is one, but then it doesn’t really try to do that. The main character, Vash, is awesome! His mysterious past is pretty awesome, however very poorly explained. From what I’ve read, I can assume that the Manga is very different, but I have also read the chance of a film… maybe. Nicholas D Wolfwood, a great Character… but yeah… Legato, one of the main antagonists… is a jerk, but sexy in the Sephiroth way….

Also, Bleach… it got to one of the slightly good, narrative bits… where there is actual character developement… the Grimmjow and Ichigo fight, however… the change from this to what is coming next week, the Amargi filler, is crap. The fight finishes… Ichigo and Orihime talk a bit, then they look up into the sky and instead of the normal. “to be continued…” slight colour change thing… it was, “To the next episode.” and it’s like… what?

There was no new Bleach Chapter last week, sadly, however the previous ones have been quite good with the large amounts of Byakuya and Kenpachi. Oh, not to mention the power development that I love in things where they actually explain why someone is so insane or why something does that, instead of, “WooOooOooo! Magic?”.

I have started to watch Hellsing, which is shorta than Trigun at only 12 episodes instead of 26… but is is okay. My main hatred towards it is the overly British Accents everyone has… like, not everyone in London or even Britain says, “Fooking hell!” all the time or talks like a lil’ cockney sparra! Ah well, Alucard is pretty cool… not much in terms of a deep narrative though… more of, “Bad guys… shoot… dead…” oh well, these things normally throw it in towards the end anyway… However, once I finished watching that… I don’t know what I’ll end up watching… I may joking watch Yu-Gi-Oh again after a talk with my brother at how sad my childhood was and how I knew the words to pretty much EVERY pokemon opening despite only watching the series once, the words to Cardcaptors, Yu-gi-oh (not hard) Digimon… apart from some of the weird parts… a lot of Beyblades (LET’S! BEYBLADE! BEYBLADE! LET IT RIP!) and yeah… my childhood  is a bleak and depressing one… oh well… I now wake up to, “It’s time to D-d-d-d-duel!”

I am beginning to think that the title of this may be a bit too… deep…  but I think I successfully managed to cover that up by ruining it within the second line or so…

The film, slated to open April 24 of next year, brings back most of the cast form the original animation, though the story is not based on the original 1998 manga.

Trigun is from the golden age of anime, and is the story of Vash who is persued by bounty hunters and two female insurance agents attempting to minimize the damage he causes escaping said bounty hunters. Like Cowboy Bebop of the same era, the show is often referred to as having a “space western” theme.

My very first anime convention, and it was the incredibly awesome Anime Festival Asia in Singapore. While many people chose to focus on the merchandise, I decided to focus on the participants of the con – the cosplayers. SIXTY crazy photos ahead! With Singapore being the next most proliferate anime hub, the cosplayers have quite the reputation to hold up, and it doesn’t disappoint.

I would have posted earlier, but being sick kinda delayed it a little. Oh, the above photo wasn’t taken by me, as I didn’t bring my DSLR with me on my trip, that and I also couldn’t get that close to the lovely Gwendolyn.

So I arrived on late Friday, and basically my first breakfast before going to AFA was my absolute favorite breakfast delicacy in Singapore – Roti Prata. Delicious start to my visit!

On the way to Suntec. Decided not to go through the City Hall to Suntec underpass because my friend wanted to have a smoke. It was a nice day for a walk anyway. The weather is nice this time of year – much cooler than summer. It’s like Vancouver’s summer weather!

Inside Suntec. The convention hub is also a mall!  Not too much has changed in here since my last visit, compared to the rest of Singapore. (more photos in the near future).

My AFA ticket. It’s rather unfortunate that my Sunday ticket is still firmly attached to the stub. I got pretty sick near the end of Day 1, and basically was wrestling with the idea of whether to attend Day 2. I regret not going, but at the same time, it probably would have destroyed the rest of my vacation here.

My lunch. Swenson’s baked chicken on rice. I haven’t had Swenson’s in over 4 years! Singapore’s chicken has a very different texture to it, one that I can’t say I really like. The meat is stringy and dry – even with all this sauce.

Into the fray I go. Fortunately, thanks to Zh3us’ organizing, I was able to obtain tickets without needing to line up for hours. I arrived late, and the line-up was still insane! When you walk in the door, you’re greeted by this large (or should I say small) Gundam.

No idea who they are, but frankly, I don’t care. THIS is how cosplay works. Not like most of that North American crap.

A Beyond-Perfect-Grade Gundam. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen something as cool as this at that kind of scale.

I’m speechless at how cool this looks. BADASS!

After finally seeing a Cintiq for the first time in person, I’ve decided to buy less anime figures, sell more anime figures, and save up for a Cintiq.

Absolutely amazing work. I enjoy these kinds of paintings more than the typical anime fan art nowadays. I especially love it when they introduce a more asian/anime influenced edge into this kind of work. It’s what I hope to accomplish in the future.

Suigintou cosplayer. She’s absolutely adorable! And I’m not just talking about the outfit! A very friendly, and timid demeanor from the brief 15 seconds of interaction I had with her.

This is what the convention is all about – jacked up prices for large volumes of anime merchandise, and a lot of rare ones too!

I kinda know who the girl on the left is (Bleach?) But the rest escape me. I’m guessing they’re just loligoth.

Same deal. Who are they cosplaying as? Doesn’t matter. I’m sure any girl would love to wear a flowing princessy dress for a day while people snap pictures of her like a celebrity/model.

Can’t say for sure, but I think this guy is a very famous artist. (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time?). Autograph signing had just closed when I got there.

Absolutely awesome Black Rock Shooter cosplayer. The eye thing is a very nice touch. What I find interesting is that you can have ANYONE simply carry a samurai sword, and it will look like cosplay. Wear loligoth, carry a katana = cosplay. Wear a school uniform, carry a katana = cosplay. Wear street clothes, carry a katana = cosplay.

Awesome KH cosplayer. Those weapons are hand-made! I asked what it was made out of and what was involved. It was very technical. I was lost at “composite”.

Terrible fanart is terrible. I like how well it’s rendered, but the entire thing looks… dead. There’s just something incredibly lacking about it – the facial expressions, the poses, the composition, how stiff everyone looks, the complete lack of dynamic movement, it’s just all wrong. Being a huge fan of Valkyria Chronicles, I found this image insulting.

Actually very good cosplay. I’m not a Bleach or Naruto fan, but again, THIS is how cosplay is done right.

Yes, this is how good fanart looks. Stylized in your own way, but in ways that add to the original concept, not take away. While the general style is “generic”, it’s done well, and works well with the character.

There’s something about a group of cosplaying girls sitting around chatting. Bonus points for them being frilly loligoth cosplayers. You’ll notice they’r still segregated between the “anime hair color” group and the “natural hair color group”.

There were better poses from her, but oh well.

This guy was a great cosplayer. Very friendly, totally open, and very patient. He held that pose for a good 30 seconds while someone with a DSLR snapped away silently.

Gwendolyn from Odin Sphere. When I first saw her wandering, I was floored. I wasn’t camera ready as she went through a door and vanished. I wasn’t satisfied leaving without a shot of her. I ran into her again (friend pointed her out). Unfortunately, this photo doesn’t do her justice anyway. I also saw ONE girl dressed as Konata (height was accurate too) but wasn’t camera ready at the time she went passed and disappeared around a corner.

Quite sad that this was the only pic I got of Danny Choo as he was mobbed and rushing away. I shouted “DANNY!” he looked over, and said “Hey!” That blurry thing in front of him is his hand as he waved. If I’m not mistaken, that’s Alodia. It’s blurry, but you can see her Witchblade makeup still on.

At the end of it all, after looking through all my photos, I feel it’s time I bought a new point and shoot camera. Most of the photos I got were blurry under this low light condition. There are cameras nowadays with face tracking, smile tracking, and anti-motion blur processing. I want to get a point and shoot that I can take out for quick shots and not have to worry about missing a moment.

AFA 09 was a lot of fun, and I really wish I was able to attend Day 2. I’ll definitely try to attend again. I’ll at least be attending my local anime con – Anime Evolution, though my friend tells me that I’ll be disappointed after having been exposed to AFA.

I’ve still got more to experience here, and I’ve already taken quite a number of photos of Singapore – the next most proliferating anime hub on the internetz. So stay tuned to check out what Singapore is like!

Cómo ya habíamos comentado, la historia de la película es completamente nueva y los personajes serán interpretados por los seiyuu de la serie de TV de 1998.

The website for the upcoming Trigun movie adaptation of Yasuhiro Nightow’s manga began streaming the new advertisment above just a few hours ago. The movie’s title has been revealed to be Trigun: Badlands Rumble and is set to be released April 24, 2010. All of the staff and cast from the original 1998 television series have come back to work on the new movie under the production house MadHouse. The news was broken first by the Anime News Network.

After watching the first few episodes of D.gray-man, a friend turned to me and said, “Wow, it’s kind of dark for a kids’ show.” Yes, compared to the other shonen anime on tv at the time (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece), it was darker. A young orphan (because you can’t have a shonen story without an orphaned main character) sells his soul to bring back to life the man who was like a father to him, only to have him come back as an evil body-snatching weapon o’ evil. Luckily Young Orphan Boy, hence to be known as Allen, escapes with only a scar over one eye and the ability to see other evil body-snatching weapons o’ evil, called Akuma. Oh, and he also learns that he’s something called an Exorcist and must team up with other Exorcists to hunt down the Akuma and their maker, the Millennium Earl.

The show is dark–there’s no denying that–but that’s what made me fall in love with it! It also balances the dark, soul-crushing angst storylines with pure delightful cracktastic ones. And once we’ve laughed away the depression from the last story arch, often thanks to the wacky Exorcists’ Science Division, we are plunged once again into another story where “bad things happen.”

The characters are fleshed out wonderfully. You have no idea who will become a major character and who is just the damsel-in-distress of the month. I always find it a nice surprise when I’ve resigned myself to saying au revoir to a minor character when a storyline has drawn to its close only to discover that not only will that minor character be sticking around, but they will be kicking much butt as they do so!

The animation is beautiful. It’s a bit jarring if you are coming over from the manga, which has its own unique gothic style. A lot of people complained when the anime first came out that it was “too” beautiful. The motion and fight scenes are awesome and thankfully we get a lot of them. The background theme music made me giggle the first time I heard it because it does seem to borrow a lot from Harry Potter’s Hogwart’s theme, but it’s easily gotten over.

If nothing in this article convinces you that this is a series worth seeing, maybe this will: EVEN THE FILLER EPISODES ARE GOOD!! Ah, filler episodes. They are famous for killing the Rurouni Kenshin anime series and for making everyone want to spork out their eyes at the TWO YEARS of Naruto filler. (Sharks in Ninja vests! Argh!) But D.gray’s filler is…good. It’s enjoyable! It even enhances the plot! Gasp! It helps that both the manga writer and a novelist worked together to come up with the filler storylines. They fill in gaps that happen in the manga storyline, give personality and back story to characters we briefly met, and just make the overall story a bit more satisfying.

For those of you who aren’t fans of multiple episode fight scenes, maybe this won’t be your thing. Fans of other shonen titles should definitely give this a try. I think it’s one of the worthier titles Jump has put out in recent years.

Algunos de los detalles revelados es el guion que será totalmente original para la pelicula, las fechas aun no están comfirmadas, se espera que la película este terminada para este mismo año ojala y así sea, la animación estara a cargo de Madhouse y el guion por parte de Yasuko Kobayashi.

For some time now, we fans of the Anime and, better yet, the Manga series Trigun have been hearing rumors a movie of the same name being in the works.

Well worry not for it seems they may be more than just mere rumors, but many of us skeptics aren’t quite holding our breath yet.

According to this linked article, the movie will be based more on the Manga than the Anime but everyone’s favorite insurance girls, Millie and Meryl, will be among the animated cast as well as *drum-roll please* Wolfwood! (Yeah, he was my personal favorite.) A couple new characters will be added and even that Vash guy will be a part of it so it all works out.

This post started off as a short quick, pointless post, but as usual, it got out of control, and I went off on several tangents. I love to write, what can I say.

I don’t know how, but I always get obsessed with this freakin song. I honestly, have not stopped listing to it at all. Instead of doing homework, or more importantly, watching anime, I find myself replaying this video over and over again. However, this has given me an idea that I think only I will like.

Here’s what should be done:

• Create a new season of Haruhi, somehow…I don’t know how far along the manga or visual novels or whatever is, but who cares, do it anyway.
• For the new season, which will have no gay shit like Endless Eight or what is better known in the streets as, Bullshit Cunt, use the opening and ending from the first season, and have one episode where you just repeat the opening and ending over and over. This will be another way that KyoAni can be different with it’s Haruhi franchise.
• For this new series, don’t make Mikuru as overly moe. I was almost disgusted with her last…err…..season? Half season? I’ll just say OVA, because I only count half of the Bullshit Cunt arc, and I can’t remember how long the next arc (which I actually really liked) was, but I doubt that the two of them counted for 11 episodes, and if it’s not at least 11 episodes, it’s not a real series. Honestly, 11 episodes aren’t even a real series. It’s just short bullshit.

Okay, so my idea was completely stupid. But all I’m trying to really say is that I’m obsessed with Haruhi for some weird ass reason (literally nothing sparked this random sudden interest). When’s that movie supposed to come out? Never mind, I’ll look it up (it’ll still take a while to come out on dvd, get subs, etc). Speaking of which, here are some notable anime movies coming up.

Trigun – 2009? 2010? Now Playing?

Err…wait a minute…that can’t be right…..for the record, Army of Darkness is a good movie, and falls into the genre of “fucking awesome shit”. If you haven’t seen it, kick yourself. Here’s the real trailor (although whoever made the fake one has mad skills).

Obviously I’m confused as to when this movie actually comes out. Sorry I don’t live in fucking Japan. This movie looks badass and great. I even liked the English commentary in the trailer (only the part where the speaker can’t correctly say “suspense”. He pronounced it in the same way that retard can sometimes be incorrectly pronounced:

Awesome movie.  The Hangover I mean, it was awesome. But yea, Trigun, awesome.

Fate/Stay Night – January 23, 2010

Is this an actual trailer? I have no idea, the quality is so shitty that it’s hard to tell what it is. But, Fate/Stay Night was one of my favorite shows, despite the relatively sad ending. I hope they put dark saber in the movie. I’m actually more excited for this than pretty much any movie coming out in the forseeable future.

To round this post off nicely, I’ll end with just one more movie, Haruhi!

I was tired yesterday after only getting 3 hours of sleep the night before and waking up with a massive headache that had me in bed for hours, drifting in and out of a pain drenched haze that really clouds my thinking. We had to go out to the supermarket and I gave up shortly after returning on accomplishing anything useful and went back to bed to try and sleep a little more. The headache was a dull ache in the back of my brain that was just enough to muddle my thinking and its one of the things that eat away at my self esteem the most and make me a little moody. I hate feeling stupid. Chris called me over to come heal the Headless Horseman for a guild run. Whilst waiting out of combat, I absent-mindedly picked up my tea cup weirdly and managed to dislocate both my left wrist and thumb simultaneously. I had to invite someone back into the group before they got teleported out of the instance and trying to rush it, I also dislocated my right thumb. Chris was around, but had popped downstairs and so I panicked. It was one of those moments where I feel completely overwhelmed and pain is about the only thing I can think of. I was in tears clutching my wrist when Chris ran in to see what had happened and he took over my character whilst I tried to fix things as quickly as possible. It took a while. Three joints out are much trickier than one. I had to put some ice on, then a splint, but after a couple of hours it seemed fine enough for raiding.

We really breezed through Emalon and ToC normal on 10 man. It was my first 10 man in months and as much as I love 25 man raids, vent is livelier on 10 and I really love the banter. It’s almost sad how easy it was and although I appreciate all the breaks it gives me and the additional buffers that exist because I can overheal indulgently, it’s a little too much of an easy thing. Heroic mode next. The closest I’ve come to hard mode and heroic raids are Flame Leviathan with two towers up and a few minutes of ToC 25 which really means I hadn’t done any. I’m still very conscious that I’m not a reliable player and so I tend to skip on the things where one mistake can make a big difference and heroic mode epitomizes that rule. But I went anyway because I really wanted to. The northrend beasts were just plain fun. I thought the fire bombs would be really difficult, but if positioned correctly so that I can just hit auto run, I had plenty of time to get out. I’m eternally grateful for the handy set of heroic mode instructions I was handed by a friend just before going in or I wouldn’t have anticipated a lot of things, including not getting a speed buff on Icehowl. Lord Jaraxxus was much more difficult. Healing is pretty intensive, Mistress’ Kiss is rather annoying trying to heal continuously whilst constantly having to pay attention to positioning and be ready to move quickly very frequently made it a challenge. It helped that I have done it on normal a few times and so it wasn’t all new, but I still managed to dislocate my wrist badly in one of the early attempts and was quite happy that my mic was turned off when the raid leader asked what had killed me. It was at this point where the evening stopped being just plain fun.

Chris started yelling. After being together for seven years this is still a major point of contention. He doesn’t like when I get hurt and hates it when he thinks it’s self inflicted. He feels that I should ask to be replaced when it happens this badly, particularly when it is the second time in less than three hours. Bar that, he feels that I should ask for a five minute break and take some time out to put my wrist back in, tape it, rest it and then go back to it. I disagree. I’ll quit for serious stuff, but dislocations are mostly routine even when they’re quite bad and I don’t need five minutes so why ask for it? It either reduces straight away or it doesn’t and a few more minutes changes nothing. He was still yelling when we pulled and I rather unceremoniously kicked him out of the room. We’d spent the downtime arguing whilst I fished painkillers out of a drawer and so my wrist didn’t get the attention it should have. Chris got even angrier because I wouldn’t let him help. When he’s upset he can’t reduce dislocations. He’s impatient, rough and gets the angle or direction or amount of force wrong and usually I end up worse off. And so I wouldn’t let him near my wrist even though I couldn’t fix it, which made him even angrier. I can’t splint and play well and so I just left it at the almost in stage for the next attempt. Over a period of an hour or two, the bones kept sliding and by the time Lord Jaraxxus went down, my wrist was a jumbled mess and I wasn’t sure any more if it was ever fixable. I took another painkiller and by the time we’d had a few goes on the Faction Champions and raid finished, my world was all a blurry hazy mess and I was jittery and a little hyped up.

I tanked the daily heroic afterwards rather badly whilst laughing at ‘Six things your body does every day that science can’t explain‘ being read to me over vent and unwinding rather than immediately stopping after the raid had the desired effect. I was calmer. I did the daily fishing quest in Wintergrasp and by the time I logged out, I didn’t feel like crawling into a corner and crying anymore. I put on an episode of Trigun and then another and before I knew it, I was asleep with the headset still on and the keyboard in my lap. I woke up with my head inches away from a sleeping cat who had curled up around the mouse, resting his chin on top of it, rhythmically snoring away. My wrist was hurting, my head still fuzzy with a dull ache, but I was okay. It’s taken a long time to get to okay even when I’m not quite. I was content with the issues I was having during the raid because I knew I could ask to either stop or have a break for as long as I needed whenever I did. I knew that if I ran into any insurmountable obstacles, I could ask for help, advice and suggestions from a number of people that would do their best to make it as easy as possible for me without taking over. I crawled into bed and the cat instantly climbed back into my arms and listening to him purr whilst warming my cold feet against Chris’ warm ones, I realised that I could see the day as a good day or a bad day, it’s just a matter of maintaining the right perspective.

AMVs (Anime Music Videos) have been mentioned in a few of our remix readings and once or twice in class, so I feel the need to talk about them a little more.

Knobel and Lankshear use AMVs as an example of music video remixes.  They don’t comment on it so much as explain it.  I think they do a pretty good job summing up:

“Their visual resources are clips of anime – animated Japanese cartoons – taken from anime movies or television series…AMV are often tribute videos…AMV can also be conceptual and focus on a particular dimension of an anime series…AMV can also simply be a celebration of anime itself, set to a favorite song.”

Here’s an example:

This happens to be my favorite example.  It’s a mashup of a bounty hunter named Spike from Cowboy Bebop chasing after a lovable criminal named Vash the Stampede from Trigun.  Both have a similar space-western setting with protagonists who have good hearts but operate on the wrong side of the law.  The video is incredibly well done.  It draws parallels between the slapstick nature of the 2 characters and the people around them, shows their mutual love of donuts and eating, and gives us a definite story arc which ends in a way similar to both shows in that neither character really gets what he wants (although Vash doesn’t seem too upset).

Most of what can be gleaned from this video comes from the very specific crowd it caters to: anime geeks, specifically AMERICAN anime geeks.  Trigun is not as popular in Japan as it is in America, and Laurence Lessig points out that AMV remixing is a mostly American phenomenon:

“AMVs are peculiarly American–or, though they build upon Japanese anime, they are not particularly Japenese.”

It’s kind of a cultural remix when an American audience takes something distinctly Japanese and uses it for its own purposes.  I think that’s pretty important.  Maybe we should stop taking an entirely derogatory attitude towards AMVs and really start to look at this as an example of the culture remix that’s happening globally instead of a pastime for pasty preteens.

Except for catgirls.  They’re just scary.

It doesn’t come out in theaters in Japan until April 24th, 2010 and who knows when it’ll be over here (and badly dubbed), but I’m excited for it! I haven’t watched Trigun in years and now I find myself wanting to rewatch it all, lol.

Wolfwood is still my favorite so I’m really happy he’s in the movie (the movie takes place before he dies in the series obviously). Although I really do like him as a character, I’ll admit I’m probably biased because he’s voiced by Hayami Sho and anyone that really knows me knows that I’m a huge fan of his and have been for years (I’ll just say over ten so I don’t make myself feel old).

Planning to visit Japan in April or May, so if it’s still in theaters, I definitely want to see it.
