PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad — Leaders of the Commonwealth countries called Saturday for a legally binding international agreement on climate change and a global fund with billions of dollars to help poor countries meet its mandates. “Climate change is the predominant global challenge,” the Commonwealth leaders said in a joint declaration. “For some of us, it is an existential threat.”

Their endorsement of a global fund came a day after British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, both attending the meeting in the twin-island Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago, also backed the idea. Brown said Britain would contribute $1.3 billion over three years, but other countries have not yet specified their commitments.

The 53-nation meeting was the largest gathering of international leaders before next month’s global climate summit in Copenhagen. Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, making rare appearances at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM) to help drive the climate discussion, portrayed the joint declaration as further evidence of growing momentum for next month’s summit. “I will leave Trinidad fully convinced that it will be possible to reach an ambitious agreement in Copenhagen,” Loekke Rasmussen told reporters after the Commonwealth leaders issued their statement following a private meeting. Some 90 countries have now agreed to attend the summit in Denmark.

The Commonwealth countries, which represent about a third of the world’s population, said in the statement that the members all agreed on the need for an ambitious program to reduce the risks of climate change. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Friday that his country is willing to sign an ambitious global target. But he set no specific figures and insisted it be accompanied by “equitable burden sharing.” Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd told reporters progress was being made. “You see as each day passes a large number of states come forward with their own national commitments,” he said.

Commonwealth Pros And Cons

Every two years when Commonwealth Heads of Government Meet for CHOGM, at least one think tank produces a report branding the organisation irrelevant or worse.

For the 2010 CHOGM, an internal report commissioned by the Commonwealth itself has rained on the parade. The Policy Studies Unit and Electoral Reform International claim the Commonwealth has lost “moral leadership” for failing to stand up for democracy, particularly in Zimbabwe.

Ironically the Commonwealth’s commitment to democracy is enshrined in the so-called “Harare Principles”, agreed in the 1990s at the Zimbabwe CHOGM back when Robert Mugabe was regarded as a good guy.

So is the Commonwealth making a stand on Zimbabwe this year? No it’s not – or at least, as so often before, it’s deploying the carrot rather than the stick.

Gordon Brown has backed a message to Zimbabwe’s new national unity government, that subject to many further reforms, President Mugabe and his UDC rival, the Prime Minister Morgan Tvangirai, could be back round the table as soon as the next CHOGM in 2011.

Britain is taking a tougher line on who should get the “honour” of hosting that CHOGM by opposing Sri Lanka because of the way it conducted the campaign against the Tamil Tigers and Tamil population.

However it is far from clear that the other countries will back Britain’s ban and there is already much huffing and puffing along the lines of “Who do the British think they are, they are not still in charge of the British Empire, you know”.

Yet for all the criticism the Commonwealth is actually growing – up to 53 member states – and thriving as indicated by two developments here in Trinidad. Rwanda, which was not a British colony is applying to join the club.

And President Sarkozy of France is stopping off on the way back from Brazil to discuss climate change with the meeting. (He will be allowed to speak French because they’ll be s special sidebar meeting with him not formally part of CHOGM).

For all it’s weakness as a deliberative council, and the highly questionable democratic credentials of many of its members, the Commonwealth remains a unique body at least encouraging, if rarely enforcing, better behaviour by its members.

As Gordon Brown likes to point out the grouping gathers a cross section of the Globe: from the richest nations (including Britain, Canada and Australia), to the rapidly rising (India, South Africa, Malaysia) to some of the world’s poorest mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa and here in the Caribbean.

If a Climate Change agreement is to be reached next month, the discussions in this forum will be crucial. To help the process on its way Gordon Brown has today proposed “the Copenhagen Launch Fund”.

This is a further component of the payments developed countries will make to developing countries to secure an agreement.

In the transition period before a Copenhagen Agreement comes into force in 2013, the new fund would offer up to $10billion, half of it on a conditional basis if action is taken.

In other words countries would only get the cash if they stop cutting down trees or start reforestation.

Britain’s payment into the fund would be about £800 million. In these times this is unlikely to be popular with voters at home. But it’s the way international politics works and the Commonwealth still amplifies Britain’s voice.

3.- Si Cristo fue (…y es) La Segunda Persona de la Trinidad, preexistente, sumamente excelso desde la eternidad, pregunto: ¿Por qué Pablo dice en Filipenses 2:7 que Cristo, en virtud a su fiel obediencia y ominosa muerte en la cruz, Dios lo exaltó hasta lo Sumo y le dio un nombre que está sobre todo nombre? (Fil. 2:7). ¿No se supone que él ya era sumamente excelso antes de nacer en María, y adorado por todas las criaturas celestiales? ¿No debió decir más bien el apóstol Pablo que Cristo, por su obediencia y muerte en cruz, retomó su posición excelsa que ya gozaba antes con el Padre desde la eternidad? ¿Acaso no prueban sus palabras que el Hijo de Dios se ganó un puesto de honor únicamente debido a su obediencia mientras estuvo en la tierra, cumpliendo su ministerio y misión?

4.- Si Cristo es realmente ahora la Segunda Persona de la Trinidad, de la misma imagen y sustancia del Padre, pregunto: ¿Por qué Jesús sigue llamando en el cielo a su Padre como “Mi Dios” 4 veces en Apocalipsis 3:12?¿Puede la Segunda Persona de la Trinidad tener Su Dios en la gloria celestial?

5.- Si Jesús, según Pablo, es todavía hombre (aunque inmortal) en el cielo (ver 1 Timoteo 2:5—Jesucristo Mediador y hombre en el cielo), me pregunto: ¿debemos concluir que la Primera y Tercera Personas de la Trinidad son también hombres inmortales dado que también comparten la misma naturaleza y esencia con la Segunda Persona de dicha Trinidad?

6.- Si Jesús, al retornar al cielo retomó su naturaleza divina, y su posición de Deidad omnisciente, omnipotente, y omnipresente, pregunto: ¿Por qué dice en la apertura de Apocalipsis (1:1) “La revelación de Jesucristo que Dios le dio…”? ¿Acaso la Segunda Persona de la Trinidad sabía menos que la Primera Persona de la Trinidad?¿No está esto en conflicto con el atributo de la omnisciencia de Dios?

7.- ¿Qué necesidad tenía Jesús para decir que “el Padre (Dios) es mayor que yo” en Juan 14:28, si todos sabemos que todo hombre es siempre menor que Dios? ¿No sería ésta una afirmación absurda, y por demás obvia, de un humano  que está sujeto a la muerte? ¿No será que Jesús quiso dejar establecida una verdad universal y imperecedera de su subordinación e inferioridad frente al Padre, ayer, hoy y siempre?

Si alguien me responde convincentemente estas 7 preguntitas facilitas, yo dejaré de ser un empecinado “uniterco” para ser un fiel adalid de los “trinotercos”…. a ver, a ver, los espero…

'Soca Sensation'- Machel Montano

Soca collaborations, riding rhythms- are these new techniques being attempted among Caribbean artistes, in a bid to catch the attention of the mainstream music industry? Machel Montano, the youngster who at age 9, was chastised by the elders of that time for his involvement in the artform, is today revered as the trendsetter. He single handedly made strides in recent years to collaborate with Jamaicans ( who, mind you- have been heard mainstream and are well received, despite their accent or “demeanor”) and even Americans, as in the case of Doug E Fresh and Latinos- I recall a track with Pitbull (a favourite for many)!

Following Montano’s effort to introduce the concept of collaboration, there was a sudden venture into riding ‘riddums.’ Now, mind you, it’d been done with Soca Parang music, but hard core Soca- no. Basically, a producer would create his masterful rhythm and invite artistes, so fit, to compose tracks and vocalize. In the end, you’d come out with maybe 5 or 6 artistes singing a variation of lyrics to one melody. It’d work for the season, as the artistes on the tracks, stood to benefit during the season when promoters would be looking for the artistes who’s been given the most airplay- which in most instances would be those riding ‘riddums.’

It’s a great strategy, especially when used together. Think of it as a marketing ploy- piggybacking off the success of an already established brand- for example: Jamaica’s dancehall crooner, Beenie Man’s collaboration with superstar, Janet Jackson or in simpler forms- LG Electronics partnership with the highly acclaimed Prada brand- cross branding at its best!

I’m no expert on the music business however, I do understand a strategy when I see one. This in itself has proven ideal for Caribbean Soca artistes- all it needs however is packaging, from PR to elements of physical structuring- a TEAM is required for tantamount success. Only then, will mainstream music execs see and feel the music….

Ahora bien, si el Espíritu Santo puede expresarse hablando, es porque tiene personalidad; si distribuye dones como El quiere, denota voluntad; si enseña indica que posee inteligencia; si consuela, denota emociones; si recuerda, indica conocimiento; si redarguye, es porque tiene discernimiento de las cosas; y si está dotado de la capacidad de amar (Romanos 15:30), es porque posee, sentimientos. ¿Puede una fuerza impersonal tener todas estas facultades, Jaimito?…Bueno, papi, en la Biblia no son nuevas las personificaciones…¿y qué es personificación, Jaimito?…bueno papi, en la prosopopeya o personificación se personifican objetos o cosas dándoles cualidades propias de los seres humanos. Estas causan un mayor impacto y son más concretas y memorables que una simple descripción literal de la realidad. Hay muchos ejemplos de personificación en la Biblia. En el Antiguo Testamento el profeta Isaías escribe: “Los montes y los collados levantarán canción delante de vosotros, y todos los árboles del campo darán palmadas de aplauso” (Is 55:12). ¿Te imaginas, papi, a un cerro cantando o un olivo aplaudiendo?… Por supuesto que no, Jaimito…Así es, papi, y como te habrás dado cuenta, aquí no se trata de una situación real, sino de una prosopopeya. Se le dan a los montes y a los árboles cualidades propias de los seres humanos: cantar y aplaudir. Otro ejemplo es el pecado, que además de ser representado como un gran adversario, también es descrito como amo posesor de esclavos (Juan 8:34 y Romanos 6:16-18), como gobernante (Romanos 5:21) y como engañador y asesino (Romanos 7:11). La sabiduría es representada como una mujer en Proverbios 8 y 9. La nación de Israel también fue comparada a una mujer virgen cuando era fiel a Dios (Jeremías 31:4) y a una ramera cuando era infiel (Isaías 1:21). Lo mismo ocurre con la iglesia de Cristo (2 Corintios 11:2, Apocalipsis 19:7). Estas personificaciones son más expresivas y pintorescas que las correspondientes descripciones literales. This is my application, under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, for publication of the second MoU between CL Financial and the State.  At CMMB’s Budget Breakfast on 10th September, I asked the Minister of Finance when this would be published and she replied that there was no intention to publish it.  I followed up with an email to her on 19th September.  That email was the subject of a telephone call from one of the Minister’s staff to advise that a written reply was being finalised for me in the next few days.  Having had no reply, or any explanation of the delay, I published the Open letter to the Minister of Finance on 5th October in the Trinidad & Tobago Review.  This application is made in the belief that the public deserve to know the details of this arrangement.  The bailout is supposedly being conducted for our benefit and indisputably at our expense, yet there is now an open position that its details are to deemed ‘confidential’.  We, the taxpaying public, need to know who exactly are the beneficiaries of the bailout and what are the terms on which those benefits are being obtained.  Anything less than full and immediate publication is a recipe for utter confusion and corruption.

After the sickening murder of a 9-year-old boy in Washington, our friend Spencer Ackerman made an impassioned plea: U.S. Central Command chief General David Petraeus for D.C. metro police chief. The idea of America’s leading counterinsurgent taking on one of its most crime-ridden towns definitely has a certain visceral appeal. But militarizing our approach to policing is an idea that could backfire in a hurry.

Spencer’s done an outstanding job of explaining counterinsurgency as a progressive military doctrine: The whole point is to not uphold the social status quo, it’s an attempt to get at the “root causes” of violence through political reform and public works. These days, that’s a job for both the armed forces and the police. “The ’soldiers aren’t cops’ argument isn’t going to fly here,” he wrote. After all, talented military officers are now telling their fellow soldiers to “view neighborhood security as if they were running Kansas City police patrols.”

Ackerman’s not the first to pick up on the idea that smart counterinsurgents could teach the police a thing or two. Last week, Karl Vick of the Washington Post reported on how the police in Salinas, Calif., enlisted the help of the Naval Postgraduate School to help them combat a homicide wave. And earlier this year, Andrew “Abu Muqawama” Exum hosted an interesting discussion thread about using counterinsurgency tactics in Oakland.

At first glance, counterinsurgency (at least the “soft,” population-centric American version) bears a fair amount of resemblance to community policing: It’s all about changing the dynamic in the communities where insurgents operate, encouraging troops to “walk the beat” and bringing in social services. And many of the tools of the modern counterinsurgent — forensic exploitation, pattern analysis and social-network diagramming — would be familiar to any detective. (The Law Enforcement Professionals program for combating roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan even called on retired agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to help take down insurgent networks.) And if you look at the geographic reach and organizational sophistication of some gangs — think Mara Salvatrucha or 18 — and it’s tempting to draw comparisons with, say, a Hezbollah or a Hamas.

But to the COINdinistas I would say: Be careful what you wish for. Counterinsurgency is still a tool for dealing with political emergencies, and it involves a heavy degree of population control. And at home, it’s a bridge too far.

“Policing can be informed by counterinsurgency – and they are in fact similar at some points,” said John P. Sullivan, a lieutenant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and an expert on transnational gangs. “But at others they really diverge. So you need to be very, very careful.”

Sullivan, the co-founder of the Los Angeles Terrorism Early Warning Group, told Danger Room the parallels with community policing — patrolling contested areas, identifying centers of gravity — make it tempting to view counterinsurgency as a tool for containing gang violence. But domestic policing and military operations, he added, are inherently different. “It [counterinsurgency theory] is attractive, and I think that people looking at gangs should look at the literature,” he said. “But to wholesale take it in and do it is probably not a good idea.”

Take, for instance, checkpoint operations — a regular feature of any counterinsurgency. No harm, right?  Well, the police in Washington tried that; the whole idea was to “protect” the endangered population of the Trinidad neighborhood by cordoning it off and restricting the movement of vehicles. A federal appeals court struck down the operation as unconstitutional. Same for “cordon and knock” — going house to house, politely searching for contraband. The police tried that in D.C., too, under something called the “Safe Homes Initiative.” It didn’t go down well, either.

That’s not to mention the more potent intelligence tools of control that are essential to fighting insurgents: Human intelligence (i.e. informants); intrusive surveillance; biometric collection. Those methods are available to domestic law enforcement, but the point is counterinsurgency is to establish sweeping civil control. Anacostia ain’t Anbar province (Al Anbar Governorate).  As Sullivan described it, the bar for collecting intelligence on your own population has to be much higher.

“The liberty issues are vital,” Sullivan said. “What gives you legitimacy in the long haul is preserving liberty while providing security. If you don’t end up doing it right, it ends up enhancing the legitimacy of the gang.”

Want to see what a place looks like when counterinsurgency starts to seep into policing? For a softer example, take a look at the United Kingdom. I’m not going to wade into Second Amendment territory here, but suffice to say that the United Kingdom has a pretty expansive surveillance system that in part was developed in response to IRA terror. (It also has a more robust Official Secrets Act.)  For a more dismal example of what happens when the police take enthusiastically to checkpoint operations, take a look at Russia. We’ve been spared much of this, because we tend to intervene in other countries’ counterinsurgencies. Let’s not start looking for one at home.

There is still plenty of overlap between good policing and counterinsurgency “best practices.” Collecting unbelievably fine-grained statistics and holding local commanders responsible for their patrol areas are essential tasks. But we are dealing with two different things. Insurgency, at its heart, is a political struggle. I don’t see drug dealers or street gangs expressing a political grievance, or trying to control of some part of the government. We have an unhappy tendency to declare “war” on problems (drugs, crime, poverty, terrorism) that defy easy solution; do we need to treat a D.C. crime wave like a mini-Malaya Emergency?

1) Decir que un Dios es único y al mismo tiempo son tres personas o un Dios triple es atentar contra el principio de no-contradicción, ya que una cosa no puede ser ella y otra al tiempo. De la misma manera que no podemos decir seriamente que Fulano es Fulano y, al mismo tiempo, Fulano, Mengano y Zutano (requetequete-sic).

2) Como bien decía Diderot: ¿las tres personas de Trinidad son tres sustancias o accidentes? Posibilidades: si son 3 sustancias, somos politeístas paganos. Si son tres accidentes, somos ateos o escépticos. Entonces les pregunto a los devotos católicos: ¿cuál de las dos alternativas es la correcta?

3) Es contradictorio afirmar que ninguna de las tres personas es anterior a la otra y, al mismo tiempo, decir que el Padre produjo al Hijo y ambos al Espíritu Santo, ya que para producir o engendrar algo es menester ser anterior a ese algo para poderle darle el ser. De la misma manera que una madre debe ser anterior a su hijo para poder engendrarlo.

4) Es contrario a la razón decir que la primera persona produce a la segunda y ambas a la tercera y, al mismo tiempo, sostener que ninguna de las tres personas depende de la otra, ya que para engendrar algo ese algo o efecto necesariamente depende de su causa, ya que sin ésta jamás el efecto se produciría.

Como se ve la creencia en la Trinidad no tiene ni pies ni cabeza y, por si fuera poco, como señala el teólogo católico Hans Küng, este dogma no aparece en la Biblia y Jesús lo ignoraba por completo. Lo más probable es que el dogma trinitario se deba a creencias paganas en trinidades divinas como Isis-Osiris-Horus o Brahma-Vishnú-Shiva.

También, como señala Diderot, el “logos” platónico, en su triple aspecto (inteligencia, poder y bondad) pudo haber inspirado la creencia en un “verbo” trinitario.

After a four-week absence from posting anything here, I had to give some reason, aye?

But seriously, even though it’s old news, the fact that Neil Parsanlal took three journalists before the Privileges Committee of Parliament (one actually just reading the news with, I suppose, no input in the actual content) and then brave enough to take on Dana Seetahal, what about lil ole me typing away on an old keyboard stating my discontent with his government? I guess if Neil is after me, I should be afraid… very afraid…

And that gets me to the other part of this post – what is wrong with us as a nation when everything seems to be falling apart, but propped up by Chinese money, and we refuse to do anything about it? Saturday’s Red Day was a washout and on Sunday I was one a of the few hundreds in Woodford Square supporting the People’s Democracy. Like my better half said – fight for the people who can’t fight for themselves, but what do you do when no one even understands, or interested, in what the fight is about?  Heading to Central on Monday morning from the city and there were more cars than usual on the road so it assumes there will be none to negligible support for the call to shut down the country for two days. I am out of the city for the week – who cares about CHOGM and the HOGs that do attend?

(As a side note  – I was invited to a Caura River lime on Monday and my lord, if you see people! Minutes to seven I am heading out of that dark and dismal place and the two bars were filled and people were also parked on the side of the roads drinking. When I commented to my host that it looks like some support for the shut-down, he laughed and said that it was like this every Monday in Caura! Every Monday… My word, but Trini like to fete boy).

But our continued interest in making people aware (unrewarded as it seems by the disinterest of the majority of my people) can be summed up in my favourite publication’s (The Economist) raison d’être – “to take part in a severe contest between intelligence, which presses forward, and an unworthy, timid ignorance obstructing our progress”.

I have a solution to get better support for a country-wide strike – don’t advertise the date. I think that people go out to work so as not to be stigmatised as a ’supporter’ and therefore not in the gun sights of their employer. If everyone stays home tomorrow Wednesday there’s not one employer in the country who can do anything about it as it was  not advertised as a day of srike or to sta home and ‘reflect’.

Si bien abundan las fórmulas triádicas, sin embargo, en todo el Nuevo Testamento no hay ni una sola palabra acerca de una ‘unidad’ de estas tres magnitudes altamente distintas, de una unidad en un igual plano divino. Cierto que hubo una vez en la primera carta de Juan una frase (Comma Johanneum) que, en el contexto de espíritu, agua y sangre, mencionaba a continuación al Padre, la Palabra y el Espíritu, que serían uno.

Sin embargo, la investigación histórico-crítica ha desenmascarado esta frase como una falsificación nacida en el norte de África o en España en siglo III o IV, y de nada sirvió a las inquisitoriales autoridades romanas su empeño en defender todavía a principios de este siglo como auténtica esta frase.»

Y continúa diciendo:

¿Qué otra cosa significa esto en palabras llanas sino que en el judeo-cristianismo, incluso en todo el Nuevo Testamento, existe la fe en Dios el Padre, en Jesús el Hijo, y en el Espíritu Santo de Dios, pero que no hay una doctrina de un Dios en tres personas (modos de ser), una doctrina de un «Dios uni-trino», de una «Trinidad»?

Pero ¿cómo entiende el Nuevo Testamento la relación entre el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo? «Para darnos a entender la relación de Padre, Hijo y Espíritu no hay en todo el Nuevo Testamento otra historia mejor que aquel discurso de defensa del protomártir Esteban que Lucas nos ha transmitido en sus Hechos de los Apóstoles.

Esteban tiene una visión durante ese discurso: Lleno del Espíritu Santo, fijó la mirada en el cielo, vio la gloria de Dios y a Jesús de pie a la derecha de Dios, y dijo: «Veo el cielo abierto y a aquel Hombre de pie a la derecha de Dios.»

Aquí se habla, pues, de Dios, del Hijo del Hombre y del Espíritu Santo.

Pero Esteban no ve, por ejemplo, una divinidad trifacética y menos aún tres hombres de igual figura, ni un símbolo triangular, como llegará a utilizarse siglos más tarde en el arte cristiano occidental. Más bien:

• El Espíritu Santo está al lado de Esteban, está en él mismo. El Espíritu, la fuerza y poder invisibles que proceden de Dios, lo llena por completo y le abre así los ojos: «en el espíritu» se muestra a él el cielo.

• Dios mismo (ho theós «el» Dios a secas) permanece oculto, no se asemeja al hombre; solo su «gloria»(hebreo «kaboda», griego «doxa») es visible: esplendor y poder de Dios, el resplandor que proviene por completo de él.

• Jesús, finalmente, visible como el Hijo del Hombre, está «a la derecha de Dios»: esto significa en comunidad con Dios, en igual poder y gloria. Como Hijo de Dios elevado y recibido en la vida eterna de Dios, él es vicario de Dios para nosotros y, a la vez, como hombre, el representante de los hombres ante Dios.

De todo esto debería desprenderse con claridad que la cuestión clave sobre la doctrina de la Trinidad es, según el Nuevo Testamento, no la cuestión declarada como «misterio impenetrable» (misterium stricte dictum) de cómo tres magnitudes tan distintas pueden ser ontológicamente uno, sino la cuestión cristológica de cómo hay que expresar según las Escrituras la relación de Jesús (y en consecuencia también la del Espíritu) con Dios mismo. Ahí no es lícito poner en tela de juicio ni por un instante la fe en el Dios uno, que el cristianismo comparte con judíos y musulmanes: fuera de Dios no existe ningún otro dios… El principio de unidad es para el Nuevo Testamento, como para la Biblia hebrea, el Dios uno, (ho théos: el Dios=el Padre), del que todo procede y hacia el que todo se dirije.

Si se quisiera enjuiciar a los cristianos anteriores a Nicea desde la vertiente del concilio de Nicea, entonces no solo los judeoscristianos, sino también casi todos los padres de la iglesia griegos serían herejes porque ellos enseñaban como obvia una subordinación del «Hijo» al «Padre» que según la posterior medida de la definición equiparadora de una «igualdad de esencia» por el concilio de Nicea es considerada como herética.

A la vista de estos datos apenas se puede obviar la pregunta: si en vez de tomar al Nuevo Testamento como medida se toma al concilio de Nicea, ¿quién había en la Iglesia antigua de los primeros siglos que fuera ortodoxo?

Por último: «¿De dónde proviene en realidad esta doctrina de la Trinidad? Respuesta: solamente es un producto del gran cambio de paradigmas, del paradigma protocristiano-apocalíptico al paradigma veterocristiano-helenista.»

El famoso científico, Sir Isaac Newton no era sino un hombre de su tiempo, estudiaba la naturaleza muchas veces a través de los ojos de la religiosidad, identificando Dios y naturaleza. Para él la verdadera religión se encontraba corrompida por el tiempo y los hombres y sólo podía volver a encontrarse explorando el mundo de la antigüedad, incluyendo en esta búsqueda de la fe original las investigaciones de la naturaleza. Tenía acceso a la biblioteca privada de Isaac Barlow, su predecesor en la Cátedra Lucasian, y a todas las bibliotecas de la Universidad de Cambridge, que contenían gran número de libros de ciencia. Puede ser este el motivo de que la biblioteca privada de Newton estuviera centrada en libros no científicos. Del total de volúmenes de esta biblioteca personal, solamente el treinta y uno por ciento son libros de ciencia, siendo el resto volúmenes de teología, veintisiete por ciento o literatura, ocho por ciento, y ciento treinta y ocho libros exclusivamente sobre alquimia, contados dentro del grupo de libros científicos.

En un texto inédito, Theologiae gentilis origines philosophicae, expresa Newton los rasgos principales de esa fe original en la que él creía. Afirma que en la antigüedad todos los pueblos adoraron a doce dioses bajo diferentes nombres, identificados con elementos, planetas o antepasados, siendo realmente los descendientes de Noé divinizados. La fe inicial en un solo Dios creador había sido corrompida pues por la tendencia a la idolatría de los hombres. Newton consideraba al pueblo hebreo como al elegido por la divinidad para volver al monoteísmo, enviando a Moisés. Pero volviendo a caer de nuevo en la idolatría fue necesario un nuevo enviado, Jesucristo, que para él no era consustancial con Dios. Así, el estudio de los documentos escritos dejados por las antiguas culturas serviría para definir la fe original y restaurarla. Solamente un hombre con unas cualidades especiales, un elegido, podría ser capaz de desentrañar los mensajes que Dios había dejado encriptados en los textos sagrados antiguos, en el lenguaje de los profetas, y Newton se sentía seguro de ser ese hombre.

Su estudio favorito se centró en los libros de Daniel, en el Antiguo Testamento, y en el Apocalipsis, del Nuevo Testamento, aunque prácticamente analizó, casi desmenuzó, filológica e históricamente todos los textos sagrados que pudo encontrar, ya fueran hebreos, egipcios o babilonios. Como base para sus estudios teológicos buscó la exactitud de las fechas y los textos originales, analizando largas cronologías y comparando diferentes escritos en griego, latín o diferentes escrituras de la antigüedad. Newton afirma que la Biblia es la fuente documental más antigua y fiel que tenemos, a pesar de las muchas corrupciones que el tiempo y los hombres han introducido en ella. Con todos estos análisis estaba seguro de descubrir el secreto plan que Dios tenía reservado para la humanidad y que permanecería oculto en los textos del Antiguo Testamento, algo así como el tan de moda hoy día Código de la Biblia, a Newton le hubiera venido muy bien la ayuda de un ordenador. Intentó demostrar que muchos hechos sucedidos en la historia ya se habían descrito con anterioridad, de forma encriptada, en la Biblia, dejando así constancia de la presencia de una mano divina en los textos sagrados e invulnerable a la corrupción de los textos con el tiempo. Mas el plan maestro no podría desvelarse hasta el apocalipsis, ya que Dios quería que se reconociese su mano en los textos pero no hacer posible el predecir sucesos futuros, solamente se localizarían las descripciones a posteriori, Newton no creía que fuera posible leer el futuro en la Biblia, pues iría en contra de los designios divinos.

En cuanto al Nuevo Testamento Newton era totalmente herético, proponía que el texto estaba muy contaminado por las creencias trinitarias. Newton negaba el dogma de la trinidad, tomaba a Cristo como enviado de Dios pero no consustancial con él. Llegó a esta conclusión al estudiar la evolución del cristianismo en el Bajo Imperio Romano. La creencia trinitaria y la consustancialidad de Cristo con la divinidad se estableció en el año 325 d.C. en el Concilio de Nicea, convocado por el emperador Constantino. San Atanasio asistió al concilio, y años después, siendo Obispo de Alejandría luchó contra la creencia de Arrio que sostenía que Jesús no era consustancial con Dios. Las creencias arrianas estaban muy extendidas y San Atanasio las declaró heréticas bajo pena de muerte, cometiéndose muchas atrocidades por ello y casi eliminando de la historia a los no trinitarios.

A pesar de pertenecer al Trinity College, Newton era un “arriano”, un antitrinitario. Se conserva un manuscrito suyo para el proyecto de un libro en contra de San Atanasio por sus atrocidades contra los seguidores de Arrio. Naturalmente estas creencias las mantuvo en lo más profundo de su ser sin comentarlas mas que con unas pocas personas de confianza como en sus cartas con John Locke.

Bueno pues, ya que me han dado de alta del hospital después de un súbito derrame cerebral,  ahora ya me siento como nuevo y muy animoso para seguir platicando con mi hijito Jaimito Nerd sobre la Trinidad, pero esta vez ya estoy preparado sicológicamente para recibir otro shock, pues francamente ya dudo de la Trinidad después de tantas embestidas de parte de Jaimito…A ver, llamaré a Jaimito, mi hijo genio que salió a su padre… ¡MENTIRA!… ¿quién dijo eso? …¡Yooooooo, Jaimitio Nerd!…¡Ya Jaimito, compórtate bien o te dejo sin propina!…Bueno, si quieres, pero como ya vendí dos millones de copias de mi libro de la Trinidad, y a no necesitaré tu “cash money”… ¿Así?…esteee…Jaimito, ¿me puedes prestar plata?…buenooooooooo…si dejas de ser “trinoterco”, sí…Ok, bossss… Mira Jaimito, tengo un argumento de mis ex correligionarios Trinitarios que suelen esgrimir para probar la Trinidad…¿te lo explico?…Adelante, viejo…¿viejo? Tu papá…ah, no…tu abuelo…Disculpa papi, pero te lo digo de cariño…ah, bueno, así sí….Fíjate Jaimito lo que dice Juan 14:23 y lo leo: “Respondió Jesús y le dijo: El que me ama, mi palabra guardará; y mi Padre le amara, y vendremos a él, y haremos morada en él”…¿te das cuenta, Jaimito, que el Padre y el Hijo moran en el creyente?…sí, papi, es verdad…ahora fíjate Jaimito lo que dice 1 Corintios 3:16: “¿No sabéis que sois templo de Dios, y que el Espíritu Santo mora en vosotros?” y en Juan 14:16,17, Jesús dice que este Espíritu Santo, que estará en nosotros, nos consolará…Pues bien, Jaimito…aquí tienes a TRES PERSONAS DIVINAS que moran en el creyente…la llamada  “Santísima Trinidad”…Padre, Hijo, y Espíritu Santo…¿Estás de acuerdo?…Pues no, papi…¿Pero por qué no, Jaimito contreras?…Bueno papi, en Juan 14:23 Jesús no está diciendo que Su Padre, el Espíritu Santo, y él morarán en el creyente, sino más bien Su Padre y él…¿Por qué no mencionó también al Espíritu Santo en este pasaje si éste es la Tercera Persona de la Trinidad?…Umm…no lo sé, Jaimito…Bueno papi, yo creo que esto se debió porque simplemente no existe la Trinidad y porque el Espíritu Santo es claramente el poder de Dios…Pero Jaimito, en el otro texto de 1 Corintios 3:16 se dice que también el Espíritu Santo mora en el Creyente, por tanto el Espíritu Santo es la TERCERA PERSONA de la Trinidad…¿no te parece, Jaimito?…no papi, no me parece…¿cómo es eso que no te parece, Jaimito?¿Acaso alguien que no sea una persona puede habitar en un cristiano?…Bueno, viejo…¡otra vez llamándome viejo!.. Fíjate ahora en lo que Pablo dice en Romanos 7:17: “De manera que ya no soy yo quien hace aquello (que va contra la ley de Dios), SINO EL PECADO QUE MORA EN MÍ”. Ahora te pregunto papi, ¿era el pecado que MORABA en Pablo una persona real que pecaba por él?…Esteeeee…los pollitos dicen, pío, pío, pío…ya, pues, papi, no te me hagas el loco y respóndeme con franqueza…Bueno Jaimito, el pecado ciertamente  no es una persona…correcto, viejo… y sin embargo, el IMPERSONAL pecado no sólo puede morar en una persona sino que puede transgredir la ley…Así es, Jaimito…Muy bien, viejo…y te vuelo a preguntar, ¿acaso diría alguno que el pecado es divino y que tiene voluntad para pecar como persona?…Pues, no…Bueno, pues, igual ocurre con el Espíritu Santo que nos conduce a la verdad y nos consuela. Esto no hace necesariamente al Espíritu Santo un Dios o una Tercera Persona Divina que obra en nosotros…ah, y también la Biblia dice, papi,  que el “amor de Dios” y “la palabra de Cristo” moran en los creyentes, como está escrito en 1 Juan 3:17 y Col. 3:16… y nadie diría que el amor y la palabra son personas… Okey, Jaimito, voy a preguntarle a Pablito Santomauro para saber qué opina de lo que me respondes… okey, papi, pero mejor ve donde el peruanito Sociniano que se hace llamar “El Apologista” para que te ilustre más al respecto…okey, hijito…y no te olvides del préstamo…Sí, papi…pero ya no me sigas moletando con tus trinoterquedades…PLOFF…911?…Urgente…una ambulancia…mi papi se acaba de desmayar de la emo$$$$ión…

Segunda Confesión Helvética, Artículo 3

1. Creemos y enseñamos que Dios es único en esencia y naturaleza; que existe por sí mismo y en todo se basta a sí mismo; que él es el eterno Creador invisible, incorpóreo, infinito, de todas las cosas visibles e invisibles; que él es el Bien Supremo, el viviente, que todo lo crea para vivir y lo mantiene; que él es todopoderoso, benévolo y misericordioso, justo y veraz.

2. Pero aborrecemos el politeísmo; porque expresamente está escrito: «El Señor, nuestro Dios, es uno» (Deut. 6:4). «Yo soy el Señor, tu Dios… No tendrás otros dioses delante de mí» (Ex. 20:3). «Yo soy el Señor, y no hay otro que yo» (Isaías 45:5 y 18). «¿No soy yo el Señor? Y no hay otro Dios que yo. A mi lado no existe otro Dios verdadero, salvador» (Isaías 45:21). «El Señor, el Señor, fuerte, misericordioso y fiel; tardo para la ira y grande en benignidad y verdad» (Ex. 34: 6).

Not quite sure where the dream started but I remember bits and pieces. I was in a gaming arcade that looked similar to the foyer at my old church… minus all the games. I was playing a game of Star Wars Drone Wars when this nerdy guy came and sat next to me and started watching then I started failing. I went over to the Johnny Rocket pinball machine and the first shot, I got 100 tickets. Mrs. Kathy [Alex's mom] pushed me to the side, dropping all her coloured photos she got at another gaming station. The background in all the photos was that of an office corner. She tried to get the machine to give her more tickets so she just pulled and the tickets came out in rows of 5. She cheated the system but the manager of the place saw her through the window and gave her an evil glare.

I was in Trinidad and all I know is that I had to save Aaron [my brother] from being hanged. They said that as soon as Uncle Bobby caught and killed all five of the chickens, he was going to kill Aaron. I found myself at the door of Uncle Bobby’s garage and I saw them hanging up the rope. I hadn’t seen the rest of my family in a while but all I was concerned about was finding Aaron. I asked David where Aaron was and he said that he was in the other room. I saw the funeral preparations already being made upstairs with the Hindu priest and everything. Aaron was in tears in the other room and I hurried him upstairs and locked the door behind me. He was trying to save a kitten. That was the error of his ways. He had the kitten in his hands and I told him to scale a couple of walls and run to my Grandpa’s house. He scaled one short one but as soon as he scaled the tall one that led to the outside of the house, he dropped the kitten and the kitten scurried back into the house. I went back in the house and everyone was already mourning Aaron’s death. A blanket was over the “body” in the casket and no one knew what was up except my uncle and a couple of his minions. A woman tried to lift the body to hold it but she soon realized that nothing was there. She made a face and uncle looked at her and looked at me. I ran as fast as I could downstairs, found the kitten under the couch, and ran outside. The gate was excessively chained up with locks and bolts. I found another way out and ran towards the market. I tried to catch a ride with someone but no one would pick me up so I just ran into the crowd hoping to be lost. I hid the kitten in a white bag and tried to make it to my Grandpa’s house but got lost and ran into a place that almost looked like Las Vegas. There were two streets and one of them had all my favourite restaurants and the other had a motel and shabby looking places. The guide sent me to the motel and I gave her the kitten. I walked around the motel. A couple guys were following closely behind. I was scared so I ran.. but the guys pursued me and one of them pinned me up against a wall. The other went behind him and started taking off his shirt. I said something along the lines of threesome and the guy in front grinned. He was apparently one of my ex-boyfriends out for revenge and they dragged me to one of the hotel rooms. They couldn’t get it opened… I ran again.

I was in the woods in a dress but I didn’t want to run because I don’t like the feeling of wet grass on my feet so I asked Princess to bring me some white flip flops but she brought me stilettos instead and so we walked in the woods. It was dark and wet and there was someone behind us. [And then I woke up]
