Hyper Crush Edition Tron Shutter Shades pt. 2

In January, we blogged about our Shutter Shades collaboration with the electro hip-hop group Hyper Crush. With the inclusion of their shades on the main page of our website, here’s a more detailed story of how we linked up with them to create the Hyper Crush Tron Edition Shutter Shades.

We first met Hyper Crush in the fall of 2007, a few months after we started Shutter Shades. They were already established in the Hollywood club scene and had been performing in Hollywood and Southern California for a while. We were just starting to promote the brand and thought that the Hollywood club scene would be a perfect setting – where music, hipsters, fashion-forward young people gathered. When we first saw Hyper Crush, we had never seen or heard a music group like them. We met them and we instantly bonded with them. They loved our shades and we loved their eclectic style and futuristic music.

After a while of seeing them out in Hollywood and attending many of their performances, we were able to convince them to wear Shutter Shades on stage during some of their performances. Each time, they got a great response from the crowd about their performances and the shades.

As a result of this observation, we talked about working together to create their own neon edition of the Shutter Shades Trons. They chose two of their signature colors, neon green and neon pink, and off we went.

Hypercrush Edition Tron Shutter Shades

Donny Fontaine, Holly Valentine, and Preston Moronie are Hypercrush.

Freshly signed to Universal Records, this electro-rap trio had been burning up the underground Los Angeles music scene over the past year. Having just completed their first national tour, they’re now in the studio working on their major label debut.

A few months ago they teamed up with Shutter Shades Inc to create their own neon edition of the Shutter Shades Trons. They chose two of their signature colors, neon green and neon pink, to fully integrate into the design. A Steam engine car that can exceed 200 MPH

On of my favorite podcast is “This Week In Science” , http://www.twis.org/ . It’s hosted by Justin Jackson and Dr. Kirsten Sanford. They present science news in a much more entertaining, but still very informative, way. Kirsten has her own blog, The Bird’s Brain, http://www.kirstensanford.com/ . She is also seen, as Dr. Kiki, on the Pop Siren video podcast, http://revision3.com/popsiren/ .

When I find science news that I think they might find interesting I e-mail the article to them. Here are some of the science news stories this past week:

1. A glass has been developed that could lead to things like airplane wings being made of glass.

“Scientists have made a breakthrough discovery in the bizarre properties of glass, which behaves at times like both a solid and a liquid.

The finding could lead to aircraft that look like Wonder Woman’s plane. Such planes could have wings of glass or something called metallic glass, rather than being totally invisible.

The breakthrough involved solving the decades-old problem of just what glass is.

It has been known that that despite its solid appearance, glass and gels are actually in a “jammed” state of matter — somewhere between liquid and solid — that moves very slowly.

Like cars in a traffic jam, atoms in a glass are in something like suspended animation, unable to reach their destination because the route is blocked by their neighbors.

So even though glass is a hard substance, it never quite becomes a proper solid, according to chemists and materials scientists.

Work so far has concentrated on trying to understand the traffic jam, but now Paddy Royall from the University of Bristol in England, with colleagues in Canberra, Australia and Tokyo, has shown that glass fails to be a solid due to the special atomic structures that form in a glass when it cools.”

2) A steam engine car has been developed with a top speed in excess of 200 MPH.

“The search for a suitable alternative fuel source to hydrocarbons which can cleanly power our vehicles has touched on various different options.

Fuels which do not “rot” the environment usually bring to mind images of gently humming electric cars, clean hydrogen, natural gas, or hithane – a concoction of hydrogen and methane.

The most promising, believes Mr Bowsher, is either nuclear or hydrogen fuel.

The public is reluctant to explore nuclear; but researchers and engineers across the world are exploring how best to generate and, more importantly, store hydrogen fuel, one of the main barriers to its widespread use.

Nine European cities are taking part in a pilot scheme to use hydrogen fuelled buses on certain routes, for instance.

But until a viable mass-scale way of storing and distributing hydrogen effectively is developed, it remains limited in use.

Mr Bowsher believes that until then, designers could look to Inspiration for a different take on good old steam. “

3) It may be possible to grow vegetables on Martian soil, based on test of samples taken by the Phoenix Mars Lander.

June 26, 2008 — NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander performed its first wet chemistry experiment on Martian soil flawlessly yesterday, returning a wealth of data that for Phoenix scientists was like winning the lottery.

“We are awash in chemistry data,” said Michael Hecht of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, lead scientist for the Microscopy, Electrochemistry and Conductivity Analyzer, or MECA, instrument on Phoenix. “We’re trying to understand what is the chemistry of wet soil on Mars, what’s dissolved in it, how acidic or alkaline it is. With the results we received from Phoenix yesterday, we could begin to tell what aspects of the soil might support life.”

“This is the first wet-chemical analysis ever done on Mars or any planet, other than Earth,” said Phoenix co-investigator Sam Kounaves of Tufts University, science lead for the wet chemistry investigation.

About 80 percent of Phoenix’s first, two-day wet chemistry experiment is now complet e. Phoenix has three more wet-chemistry cells for use later in the mission.

“This soil appears to be a close analog to surface soils found in the upper dry valleys in Antarctica,” Kouvanes said. “The alkalinity of the soil at this location is definitely striking. At this specific location, one-inch into the surface layer, the soil is very basic, with a pH of between eight and nine. We also found a variety of components of salts that we haven’t had time to analyze and identify yet, but that include magnesium, sodium, potassium and chloride.”

“This is more evidence for water because salts are there. We also found a reasonable number of nutrients, or chemicals needed by life as we know it,” Kounaves said. “Over time, I’ve come to the conclusion that the amazing thing about Mars is not that it’s an alien world, but that in many aspects, like mineralogy, it’s very much like Earth.”

MARTHA STEWART BANNED, DENIED, NO GO TO BRITAIN

Ah the old ghost comes back to haunt. The Queen of whatever it is she does, Martha Stewart, has seen the old ghost of her past rise before her eyes once again. The woman who had no life and made a carreer out of it is visiting Poland where they are launching a version of her “Martha Stewart Living” magazine in Polish. She thought she’d stop by the British Isles on her way home. Wrong, fail, not going to happen. Apparently, the British powers that be don’t appreciate her prison record and have denied her a visa to enter the country. I guess she won’t be showing the queen how to make paper flowers this time around. ”Martha loves England; the country and English culture are near and dear to her heart,” said Charles Koppelman, chairman of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. “She has engagements with English companies and business leaders and hopes this can be resolved so that she will be able to visit soon.” I guess they will just have to come to her back in the good old U.S. of A. A British spokeswoman, however, refused to comment about Stewart’s entry to Britain, but added: “We continue to oppose the entry to the U.K. of individuals where we believe their presence in the United Kingdom is not conducive to the public good or where they have been found guilty of serious criminal offenses abroad.” Ouch. That’s going to leave a mark. Now for those of you that have been living under the proverbial rock here’s a recap. In 2004, Stewart was convicted in federal court of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and making false statements related to a personal sale of ImClone Systems Inc. stock. She got a five-month prison sentence, and also served an additional five months and three weeks of home confinement. Well, Martha, I guess it sucks for you. Welcome back to the real world where we all live with our mistakes. No crumpets for you.

HELICOPTER PURSUES UFO

In England a police helicopter spotted a flying saucer and decided to give chase. If UFOs can outrun a jet, did the police really think they had a chance in a chopper? The mystery aircraft zoomed straight at the chopper as the three-man cop crew prepared to land. Tag, you’re it. The pilot was forced to bank sharply to avoid being hit by the mystery aircraft as the helicopter was returning to the Ministry of Defence base of St Athan, near Cardiff. Maybe it was another of those infamous secret experimental military aircraft. The three crew described the UFO as ‘flying saucer-shaped’. They gave chase, getting as far as the North Devon coast before they ran low on fuel. “They are convinced it was a UFO. It sounds far-fetched, but they know what they saw.” Said an unnamed source. Why do these people always refuse to give their name? I don’t know how far-fetched it sounds these days. These things are appearing almost daily. I wish one would land and say “Hi,” but then sombody would probably shoot at it.

WOODEN ELECTRIC CAR UNVEILED

What would Henry Ford think if he saw this? A driver takes a prototype wooden electric car for a spin after it was unveiled in Kyoto, Japan. The buggy, which has bamboo-weave doors, has a range of six miles and can hit 30mph. It kind of reminds me of a golf cart. It would be great for putting around town.

WEIRDO HIDES IN COUCH

It is amazing to what extent some people will go through to be weird. Police say a New York man cut a hole in a woman’s couch and hid in the carved-out space until she came home. Newburgh police said the woman sat on the couch Wednesday evening and felt a bump in the cushions move. That would be really creepy. She jumped up and David Joe Limones emerged from his hiding place, knocking a cell phone out of her hand. Surprise. A jack-in-box in the couch. The woman was on the phone with a friend when she entered her apartment because she had filed an earlier complaint against Limones and was worried he might be there. She was obviously much smarter than he was. Police said she had asked the friend to stay on the line and call police if something went wrong. When officers arrived, they found Limones and the 22-year-old woman arguing on the apartment’s balcony. Hopefully they can put this cat away, but somehow I suspect this will only be temporary fix for this guy.

SEGA ROBOT GIRLFRIEND

Feeling lonely, can’t get a girl, tired of coming home to the hamster. Well Sega has come up with an idea to help you out. It’s a pixie-size robotic girlfriend with a big chest who will kiss on command. Android love baby. The petite lady, known as “EMA” (an acronym for Eternal Maiden Actualization), runs on batteries and will hit stores in September with a price of about $175. It’s a lot cheaper than a real girlfriend. ”Strong, tough and battle-ready are some of the words often associated with robots, but we wanted to break that stereotype and provide a robot that’s sweet and interactive,” Sega spokesperson Minako Sakanoue said. “She’s very lovable and though she’s not a human, she can act like a real girlfriend.” Well let’s not carry it too far. She’s only 15 inches high. It’s more like a pucker up Barbie, except she looks like the Joan Rivers android in Spaceballs. When EMA’s sensors detect a nearby human head, she puckers up for a kiss, designers call this her “love mode.” How wonderfully…weird. Well, if nothing else, she suppossedly does a song and dance too. Really, I’m not kidding. EMA should be available by Christmas, batteries not included.

Així, fins a quarts de cinc de la següent tarda. El verd es vesteix amb la seva millor gala per donar la benvinguda a la pluja; fa goig. La terra es perfuma, desprèn una olor agradable. La terra humida. Continuen vestides i perfumades.

Fins a la propera. Fins que els llamps i els trons obren el camí. Entra el vent, tot enfadat. Vestit de guerra. Bufa i bufa. No ve sol. L’acompanya la seva amiga calamarsa, tota tímida. Cau tota petita plena amb força. Els llamps i els trons.
