No "Truth Rising"

Alex Jones, self-styled conspiracy guru, has a new addition to his arsenal of cheaply made media material; a film called “The 9/11 Chronicles – Part 1, Truth Rising”.

I’ve just watched it and as with much of his material, it is devoid of any real content, consisting mostly of footage of 911 “inside job” believers heckling politicians and confronting police officers, the film’s message seems to be largely one of surprise that anyone hassling policemen could possibly get themselves into trouble.

The first half does have some shots of police officers and other officials being shall we say a little over-zealous and exercising their own rights as human beings to say what they think. Some can be seen pushing the video cameras away from their own faces and others swear and curse at the “911 Truth” members. Whist most would agree that this is not the way that police officers should behave in an ideal word, their reaction is understandable; nobody likes to have a camera pushed into their face and getting upset is an understandable reaction if the person holding the camera refuses to turn it off when asked politely to do so purely because they are trying to exercise their “right” to film a public servant in a public place.

Much of the second half of the film shows the experiences, with law enforcement officers, of two men who decided to walk from the East Coast of America to Washington D.C. holding placards. One had a long unkempt beard, a beanie hat and was dressed in an orange jumpsuit. His sign read “Jesus. The only way.” The other looked like any casually dressed student-type and held a sign reading “Real Christians don’t choose war.”

Most of the police whom we saw stopping them were polite enough but when asked for ID the two men would immediately become belligerent and start to banging on about their “right” to film. They would then refuse to show any ID saying stuff like “This isn’t Nazi Germany bud, this is America!” The film was pretty pathetic really but it did make me think about the recent amendment to our own laws on terrorism that effectively bans people from taking pictures of the police.

The problem with such a law is that the decision to prefer charges is left up to individual police officers and these “public servants” are only human. No one likes to have a camera shoved into their face especially when they have asked politely for the person doing the filming to turn it off. In such a case any reasonable person must concede that a police officer might have a legitimate reason to expect that the camera be turned off. Someone who is trying to execute the law in a cool and reasoned impartial way might be flustered by the very fact of being filmed and it must be hard enough to suppress adrenaline without the added pressures of thinking that one might end up in the next Alex Jones film.

The new amendment to the British Terrorism Act is wide-open however and should a photograph be taken that could be deemed to be “useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism” a prosecution could be brought.

There is a difference between belligerently pushing a camera into someone’s face and inadvertently capturing them in the shot. British law is built on precedence and so it is impossible to predict what constitutes a photograph being useful to a terrorist until someone actually gets prosecuted. It may well be that pictures with incidental police officers in them will not be covered by the law but photographers have no way of knowing that in advance and will be wary of including police officers in their photographs as a result.

If a photographer were to push their camera into a police officer’s face or carry on filming for no good reason after being asked to stop then one could see an argument for police officers doing everything within their power to come down hard on the perpetrator, including using the terrorism laws.

What worries me most is that this new law, like others designed specifically to combat terrorism , will end up being routinely abused by the authorities when it suits the individuals concerned. That will mean test cases and a huge waste of public money not to mention the waste of time, effort and resources of those being charged.

Google Video is apparently censoring open source movies that are available to the public for viewing. This movie will be posted here again from another site that does not censor and further information on google censorship will be posted on many of my other blogs, links will be posted here on this post.

Es ist natürlich ein Vieles einfacher Leuten eine Cd/Dvd auszuhändigen, die sie sich gemütlich am Abend auf dem Sofa ansehen können, anstatt werbeunterbrochene Soaps oder RTL2-Newssendungen zu konsumieren (wobei das bei manchen schon schwierig genug wird), als dass man ihnen ein Dutzend Din-A4 Seiten zur Eigenrecherche aushändigt. (Lediglich die englische Sprache vieler Veröffentlichungen stellt eine gewisse Barriere dar, jedoch versuche ich so viel wie möglich auf Deutsch online zu stellen.)
Also brennt eueren Familien und Freunden solche Videos, denn manchmal genügt nur ein kleiner Funke, damit Leuten ein Licht aufgeht. Von den wenigen Kleingeistern, die man wohl erst mit Benzin übergiessen müsste, sollte man jedoch dem eigenen Frieden zuliebe Abstand nehmen.

Es ist wirklich allerhöchste Zeit für eine Revolution!
Wenn erste Bomben auf iranischen Boden fallen, Afghanistan und Irak (mit deutscher Hilfe) weiter bluten und die US-Militärpräsenz vor Lateinamerika weiter verstärkt wird, ist es wohl fast zu spät und unsere selbsternannten Könige der Welt haben so gut wie gewonnen.
