Sekali lagi, ‘Darah Yang Meleleh’ Dari Type-Moon dan Ecole

Bagi para penggemar anime juga game visual novel dan suka memainkannya di komputer, pasti tak asing mendengar judul “Tsukihime (Putri Bulan)”, “Fate/Stay Night”, atau “Kara no Kyokai: Garden of Sinners (Lingkup Kekosongan: Taman Para Pendosa)” di telinga. Ketiga game tersebut adalah karya emas dari developer terkenal Jepang: Type-Moon, yang banyak mengeluarkan game dengan cerita yang gelap, kompleks, tetapi luar biasa dalam segala aspek sebuah karya tulis. Cerita-cerita yang mustahil dipandang sebelah mata tersebut berasal dari penulis hebat Nasu Kinoko, yang berbagai buah karyanya sudah dirilis sebagai novel-novel laris di Jepang. Beberapa tahun silam, Type-Moon memutuskan untuk membuat game fighting yang merupakan sekuel dari Tsukihime, dengan karakter-karakter dari semua karya Type –Moon sebagai ‘aktor-aktor’-nya. Harapan itu pun berhasil diwujudkan oleh Ecole, dalam sebuah game pertarungan 2D bergaya anime berjudul: Melty Blood (Darah yang Meleleh). Walau berjudul demikian, bukan berarti game ini berisi banyak darah mengucur serta adegan sadisme. Judul tersebut lebih menekankan pada tema ceritanya yang berat untuk anak-anak. Ecole telah mengeluarkan Melty Blood, Melty Blood Re-Act, Melty Blood -Act Cadenza-, dan akhirnya Melty Blood -Actress Again- sebagai ekspansi terbarunya. Walau awalnya hanya khusus Arcade (dingdong), Ecole berbaik hati men-port seri ini ke Playstation 2 dengan berbagai fitur khusus. Namun jika kalian berpikir “Ini cuma game anime fighting biasa saja”, SALAH BESAR!

Hologram Summer Again. Tri Hermes Black Land

Cerita dalam game ini berpusat pada Shiki Tohno (tokoh utama Tsukihime), remaja SMU yang memiliki “Mata Mistis Persepsi Kematian”. Dengan mata itu dia mampu melihat berbagai ‘garis’ yang terlihat pada makhluk hidup serta benda mati, yang bila dipotong, akan mengakhiri eksistensi mahkluk/benda itu… Dengan kata lain, MATI. Untunglah kakak kelasnya Aozaki Aoko memberinya sebuah kacamata, yang bila dipakai mampu menghalangi kemampuan matanya. Tak lama Shiki hidup normal bersama adik angkatnya Akiha Tohno, beserta 2 pelayan setia yaitu gadis kembar Hisui & Kohaku. Dia menjalani hidup yang penuh liku bersama Arcueid=Brunestud, Ciel, Yumiduka Satsuki, Arima Miyako,   Len (Ren dalam versi Jepang), dan banyak lainnya. Beberapa waktu kemudian (setelah akhir dari Tsukihime), seorang gadis Mesir bernama Sion Eltnam Atlasia mengetahui kemampuan Shiki dan meminta bantuannya… Shiki tak pernah menyangka bahwa dia akan terbawa dalam perseteruan hidup-mati yang melibatkan berbagai vampir haus darah dan orang-orang terdekatnya… Walau enggan, Shiki harus sekali lagi menggenggam “Pisau Nanaya” di tangannya dan bertempur. Tanpa mengetahui; bahwa ada seseorang di luar sana, yang bernasib sama dengannya…

Seperti tipe game fighting pada umumnya; game ini didasari oleh mekanisme pertarungan 1 lawan 1, dalam jumlah ronde dan waktu yang sudah ditentukan. Setiap pemain bisa melakukan lari, melompat, menunduk, pukulan lemah,pukulan sedang, pukulan kuat, dan bantingan. Dengan kombinasi gerakan tombol arah dan tombol serangan, pemain bisa melakukan suatu jurus karakter tersebut. Misalnya bawah, kanan-bawah, dan kanan + pukulan kuat untuk mengeluarkan Hadou-Ken (Bola Api) pada Street Fighter. Pertarungan terus berlanjut sampai ada yang kalah; Melty Blood memiliki mekanisme yang sama seperti itu, hanya saja dengan berbagai perbedaan. Semisal Guard meter; meteran biru di bawah Life Bar mengindikasikan kemampuan bertahan pemain, setiap kali bertahan (menahan tombol arah kebalikan dari arah lawan) meteran ini akan berkurang dan bila habis pertahananmu akan jebol! Lalu dengan Magic Circuit (sejenis Super Meter dalam Street Fighter) yang berkisar dari 0-300%; yang bertambah setiap kali menyerang atau diserang, pemain bisa melakukan serangan super (EX) yang merupakan versi lebih kuat dari serangan biasa. Selain itu dengan konsumsi 100%-299% Magic Circuit, pemain bisa mengaktifkan mode Heat di mana Life Bar pemain yang tersisa (berwarna merah) akan pulih kembali dan pemain bisa melakukan jurus tanpa batas juga jurus kuat Arc Drive! Bahkan dengan konsumsi 300% Magic Circuit (MAX), pemain bisa mengaktifkan mode Blood Heat; mode yang sejenis dengan Heat, tapi pemulihannya lebih cepat, juga memberi akses ke jurus terkuat Last Arc Drive!! Tapi tentu saja mode ini dibatasi waktu (sesuai jumlah Magic Circuit yang dimiliki), sehingga pemain harus cepat!

Seperti tipikal game pertarungan lainnya, game ini dilengkapi dengan mode Arcade di mana setiap karakter akan melewati 9 stage dengan jalan cerita dan lawan masing-masing, mode Versus untuk berduel dengan teman atau CPU yang dilengkapi fitur Once Again (mengulang duel dengan cepat), mode Training untuk berlatih gerakan dan jurus setiap karakter, serta Survival untuk bertarung tanpa batas. Bila semua itu adalah fitur umum dalam setiap game fighting, lantas apa yang membuat Melty Blood –Actress Again- ini begitu spesial? Pertama; dari awal game ini menyediakan 25 karakter, itupun termasuk karakter khusus versi PS2: Ryougi Shiki (tokoh utama Kara no Kyokai), dan belum termasuk 5 karakter rahasia yang bisa dibuka dengan syarat tertentu. Total ada 30 karakter dari seri Tsukihime dan Kara no Kyokai; serta walau sebagian besar adalah karakter cewek beserta versi ‘jahat’-nya (Sion Eltnam Atlasia/Sion Tatari, Arcueid=Brunestud/Red Arcueid, Tohno Akiha/Akiha Vermillion, Len/White Len, dll), para karakter cowok yang tersedia pun tidak kalah kerennya (Tohno Shiki/Nanaya Shiki, Michael Roa Valdamjong, Warachia, Nero Chaos), belum lagi karakter-karakter konyol yang tak disangka-sangka ternyata sangat kuat (Neco-Arc, Neco-Arc Chaos, Mech-Hisui). Bahkan terdapat fitur “Karakter Terbaik”, yang akan menunjukkan karakter mana yang paling sering dipakai berikut persentase pemakaiannya (Arcade, Versus, Training, Survival, etc selama bukan karakter yang dipakai komputer), jumlah maksimum kombo yang pernah dicapai, dan kerusakan maksimum yang pernah diberikan.

Kedua; yaitu Style (gaya) bertempur dan penampilan karakter. Setiap karakter wajib memilih 1 di antara 3: Crescent Moon (Bulan Sabit) = gaya bertarung yang mengutamakan keluwesan gerak dan serangan cepat, Half Moon (Bulan Setengah) = gaya yang berimbang, lebih mudah mengincar combo tinggi namun tak bisa mengakses Heat/Blood Heat, serta Full Moon (Bulan Purnama) = gaya yang memberatkan pada power (tenaga), bisa mengisi Magic Circuit sendiri (walau tak bisa mengaktifkan Heat) dan memusatkan semua pada serangan yang kuat dan mematikan. Walau karakter yang dipilih sama, dengan Style yang berbeda, gerakan karakter tersebut sampai tipe dan timing jurus-jurusnya akan berbeda! Bahkan pada karakter tertentu, dengan Style yang berbeda, pemain akan merasa mengendalikan karakter yang benar-benar berbeda! Itu belum termasuk Style rahasia/tersembunyi Eclipse (Gerhana), yang luar biasa kuat dan melampaui ketiga Style lainnya!! Namun terpisah dari ketiga Style tersebut, pemain bisa melakukan serangan balik (Counter), mengurangi kerusakan yang diterima (Reduce), bahkan menangkis serangan lawan (EX Shield), ketika lawan melancarkan combo. Tentunya, banyak teknik lain seperti Shield Bunker dan semacamnya yang hanya diperuntukkan bagi para veteran game pertarungan atau GITAR (Gila Tarung)! Sedangkan selain Style, pemain juga harus memilih kostum/warna (Color) dari karakter! Setiap karakter memiliki 35+ warna berbeda untuk mengubah penampilan seperti orang lain. Misalkan saja Tohno Akiha dengan warna tertentu bisa mirip Yukiki Amagi dari Persona 4!! Tohno Shiki bisa berambut pirang dan berseragam hitam, dan penampilan gila lainnya!

Ketiga; yaitu Boss Rush, Special Mode, dan Stage Select. Boss Rush adalah mode khusus di mana pemain akan berhadapan dengan para karakter ‘Boss’ yang selain sangat lihai, semuanya memakai Style Eclipse!! Bahkan ada Boss ‘mustahil habis’ semacam Dust of Osiris, G Akiha, juga karakter terkuat Archetype: Earth Arcueid!!! Setelah menyelesaikan Arcade sekali, mode Special akan terbuka. Mode ini berisi Scenario Play untuk memainkan ulang kembali cerita-cerita dan ending dari setiap karakter yang sudah kamu selesaikan; lalu Music Play untuk mendengarkan 69 musik serta lagu dalam game. Musik dan lagu dalam game ini memang luar biasa; tidak seperti musik game fighting yang umumnya ‘hanya agar tidak sunyi’, setiap BGM maupun lagu yang ada secara mengejutkan sangat indah dan enak didengar. Sebut saja “Everlasting Destiny” yang menggambarkan kehidupan bahagia para tokoh, “wandering in torture” yang melambangkan kesedihan, kebingungan, dan putus asa dalam kehidupan nan kelam, “SAKURA-KOI-UTA” yang melambangkan ketenangan, “Need Speed” yang berupa ritme cepat pertarungan, “Very Slow Life” yang berupa irama lucu dan kocak ala Neco-Arc, dan masih banyak lagi lagu/nada yang mengagumkan! Lalu dalam memilih tempat pertarungan (Stage Select) ada begitu banyak pilihan tempat yang menawan; misalkan “Classic/Fateful Showdown” tempat bertemunya Tohno Shiki dan Aozaki Aoko, “…and nothing heart” yang merupakan kediaman keluarga Ryougi, “Through Looking Glass” yang berupa area salju mimpi kediaman White Len, “Coating Earth – Black Land/Melty Blood Texture” tempat penentuan dengan Dust of Osiris, bahkan tempat jayus seperti “Magical Kohaku Prison” dan “Doctor Kohaku Garage”. Semuanya digambarkan begitu detil, artistik, penuh warna, dan cerah seperti artwork dalam seri novelnya.

Walau (disayangkan) resolusi pixel setiap karakternya kurang tinggi dan sedikit terlihat kotak-kotak, akan tetapi fitur lainnya begitu patut diacungi 2 jempol. Mulai dari pengisian suaranya yang sangat hidup, gambar-gambar pemandangan serta event ceritanya dipaparkan indah dan berkualitas tinggi, jumlah karakter yang BANYAK, kekuatan masing-masing karakter yang seimbang (balanced) dan tidak ada karakter yang lebih superior daripada yang lain, ritme pertarungan yang cepat-menegangkan-penuh efek spesial, musik serta lagu yang bersemangat dan menyentuh hati, dan terakhir penampilan para karakter yang menawan dan persis aslinya. Adegan “Versus”-nya saja membuat hati saya berdebar (kereen!!)!! Kalian yang bukan jago game fighting pun (seperti saya), pasti akan menyukai game ini— apalagi jika kalian penggemar seri Tsukihime! Tidak diragukan, game ini adalah salah satu game fighting terbaik di tahun 2009!!!

Hey! This is my first real review. The anime is kind of old, but I just recently watched it and i had to give my 2 cents.

What Is It?
For those who don’t know, it’s a J.C.Staff production of a well known Type-Moon Visual Novel. I am not quite sure which path it follows as i have not played the visual novel, but it manages to squeeze everything into a short 12 episodes.

Who should be reading this?
This may/may not contain spoilers. The reason for this indecisiveness is because I may get carried away in emotion and finish reviewing it all. I’ll try to keep spoilers to a minimum, but I’m just warning people that there will be the chance of slight spoilers. I will not talk about the ending in detail, if thats what some people are worried about. So, for those reading this to decide on whether or not to watch the anime, proceed at your own risk.

First Impressions.
Okay. I wanted to watch this for quite a while. But I’d get started, then stop, as I’d get bored of it from the first episode. Now don’t get me wrong, this is a fantastic anime. It’s just that, in my opinion, the opening few scenes were a bit wierd and didn’t really explain anything clearly. It just jumped into the action so to speak, and if it was trying to explain anything, it was a little abstract in its execution.

The Plot.

—- As Seen on Wikipedia.org —-Tsukihime’s follows the perspective of Shiki Tohno who suffered a life-threatening injury when he was young. When he regained consciousness, Shiki was able to see “death lines”[n 1] though his Mystic Eyes of Death Perception (直死の魔眼 Chokushi no Magan?) which causes him immense headaches as his mind cannot cope with the sight of death. Soon after he is given a pair of glasses that blocks the sight of these lines. The game then advances to Shiki’s second year of high school. After his injury, he was banished to a branch family of the Tohno household. After eight years he is called back home by his younger sister, Akiha Tohno, when she assumed the responsibility as the family’s head. After moving back Shiki has trouble adjusting to the old-fashion lifestyle his sister lives by.

As the story progresses the plot diverges depending upon the choices the character makes. Shiki must use his powers to confront supernatural beings such as vampires (known as True Ancestors (真祖 Shinso?) and Dead Apostles (死徒 Shito?)).

Storyline
The storyline in my opinion was unique. I commend the writer Kinoko Nasu for the work put into the story. It is deep and compelling, with the “seinen” (adult, or older audience) genre showing through. This story requires a lot of thinking, and i do not recommend it to those wanting a light “passing the time” story. To be honest, the story felt very rushed, with barely any real character development whatsoever. But you have to realize that this was a visual novel. So in real fact, what I have just watched, the full Arcueid ending, would have been hours and hours of gameplay. As with all Visual Novel adaptations of anime, you have to realize that the storylines of other characters are essential to understanding the true nature of the whole story. Personally, if I was the planner for J.C.Staff, I would have made this a 26 episode anime, and fleshed out some of the characters, instead of flat out adapting the original visual novel route.
All in all,  i give the storyline 4/5.
1 point being lost due to shallow character development.

Visual Presentation
This will be the shortest section of the review. In my opinion, it was awesome. didn’t look bad. I reckon the type of clothes worn by Arcueid was a bit archaic (turtles necks FTL) but this was a 2000 visual novel, and she was 800 years old. It did get a bit jerky in some moments, but you could relate that to all action anime’s, since they are made traditionally at 20 fps, or something like that instead of the usual smooth 60/50fps.

Sound/Voice Acting
Okay. The voice acting was wonderful. Didn’t sound fake. The only gripe I had with the voice acting, was that ONE character, sounded sarcastic the whole way through, and didnt show and real emotion. I wont say who, but it will become apparent.

Ending
Yes. The ending is very touching and sad. It left a hole in my chest that I will never be able to fill again, as with Fate Stay Night and Elfen Lied. But yea, it was sad, great ending that left you thinking.

This was a great anime, even with all its flaws. the short story is a bit disappointing though, as I reckon, this could have been much longer than it actually was.

This is actually begin with KatanAnime request for a non-specific anime wallpaper pack of cute girls. I then think it is quite a good idea since I have so many wallpapers from hentai series (Of course the clean ones are the ones I’m showing here). Of course everyone makes the assumption that Mechazawa is good with technology. Stereotypes, eh?

The 6th part of this retrospective takes me back to a time when I first decided to follow shows as they aired rather than just trying stuff out on a whim. I could have learned my lesson then and there, but I didn’t. There was also nowhere near the amount of shows airing then as there are at the off-peak time at present.

I’m going to start off with the second season of Ai Yori Aoshi here. The first season in a longer format had a harem feel to it though you always knew it would only end one way. The second season builds on that as the circle of friends comes apart and people move on with their lives. I wouldn’t see this getting made now in my opinion.

Godannar at the same time was trying to bring a 70s feel back to giant robot animation. It also made me think that maybe nostalgia can sometime make things seem better than they really were. It got a second season anyway, so what do I know?

Yami to Bōshi to Hon no Tabibito was one of my first experiences with yuri anime. I know there was a memorable scene in the first episode, which really had nothing to do with the plot, but looked nice. About that plot, I think it was about traveling to find a girl in a bunch of different worlds and there was the freaky looking giant hat too. Oh wait, I could have just gotten that from the title.

Meanwhile, delinquents terrorised the various high schools named after Western baseball players in Cromartie High School. While the best way to describe the comedy would be surreal. Most of the delinquents have another side beside the one the project to someone who would just look at them, though the massive difference in outside appearance versus personality is the main sources of most of the jokes.

The there was the case of Mermaid Forest, in which all of the interesting stuff in how the 2 characters became immortal is backstory. This just looked back at their past as they searched for mermaids so they could finally die. Immortality has normally been used as a way to say things on the other side may be worse than they appear at first, here there was none of that.

I also managed to endure the second season of UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie. Looking back over the years, I still don’t know how I managed to pull it off. The 4 seasons of this are probably considered god-awful for a lot of people out there, but I don’t have any ill feeling towards this. Yes, it is pretty much just blatant fan-service trying to appeal to multiple demographics simultaneously, but at least it never really got serious to begin with.

There was also Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, which introduces us to a male lead whose indecisiveness ruins lives, plus he also had a few performance issues in bed. They later redid the ending to this series where Takayuki ends up taking the Haruka route instead of Mitsuki, but I think in retrospect it merely ruined the original. Either way, it was an eroge adaptation that ended up not being completely horrible as many of them increasingly are.

I also thought at the time that Tsukihime was well worth watching. The flow of the series is one I remember as having an excellent first third before becoming somewhat boredom inducing in the middle. The ending, though, wasn’t quite at the level of shocking, but it might just be bad. On the plus side, it did give us branded products like towels of which certain ones costs 20 times those of other characters.

Maburaho was another fine addition to the pointless genre that is harems with oppressed male leads who save girls who can use magic who are far too good for him. That was a little long-winded, but I couldn’t be bothered with hyphens this time. I wish this series would have ended with the harem lead’s death at the halfway point after he used up all his magic, but alas, they had to make some sort of dramatic storyline at the end.

And I wrap of the season with the one-shot .hack//GIFT OVA. For the most part, it is just throwaway material which relies heavily on inside jokes from the game and series. The animation style shows just how serious this was taken as well. Since the plot was something about searching for an onsen that had been created, you get a paper-thin plot that disguises what the real point of this is.

Highlights from Shows Unseed or Unfinished

Fullmetal Alchemist began during this season, and the progression of the series was so fantastic that they felt like going back and redoing it from the beginning. Planetes (or whatever the title is in Greek) is probably a pretty good series. I’ve only read the manga of that, but I think my view of it generally diverges from popular opinion.

So long posts take me forever to do, right now I’m working on a bit of a review/first impression type thing for a manga I recently got called Ooka: The Inner Chambers.  Unfortunately I hate writing at length so it’s going to take a while but in the mean time I would like to do little snipets of other manga I’m reading right now (oh near past anyway) starting with the manga for Tsukihime.

So anyway, I recently got a hold of volumes 1-6 of Lunar Legend Tsukihime illustrated by Sasakishonen and original story by TYPE-MOON and I’m enjoying this version more so then the anime, which was decent but not outsading.  While reading trough volume 3 there is a list of names containing the family names of Asagami, Fujou, and Ryougi.  For those who don’t know TYPE-MOON founders Kinoko Nasu and Takashi Takeuchi’s original project was a little novel titled Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners  which became the archetype for Tsukihime.  The novel (and later movies from studio ufotable) follows a young women named Shiki Ryougi, who shares her first name and the “Mystic Eyes of Death Perception”, and her friend since high school Mikiya Kokuto, who’s character design is the basis of Shiki Tohno of Tsukihime.  They encounter two others with unnatural power, Fujino Asagami with the abilty to bend things and later gains clairvoyance (i.e. she can bend things with out seeing it), and Kirie Fujou, a bedridden girl who controls a specter like version of her self and implants the suggestion of suicide in other girls.  Seeing these little trough backs to Kara no Kyoukai in Tsukihime made my day.

Well that’s pretty much all that I have to say at the time (wow, I need to work on short part of posting).

There are two main problems with Tsukihime:

The first is that both Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night have become internet memes. It was hard to take the show seriously while the whole time I could only think about things like “A CAT IS FINE TOO” or “THIS CHAIR” or even had some of the Fate/Stay Night ones seeping through.

The other is that I didn’t think that the Fate/Stay Night anime was very good, and I remember the general consensus on Tsukihime was that it wasn’t either. Yet at the same time, Nasu has a cult following. So which is it? Well, I personally don’t think that it’s one of those cases where the masses are massively overrating something. My instinct here is because the Tsukihime anime never really delivered anything coherent. I could never figure out what the soul or the point or whatever kind of essence that the show is supposed to be “about”.

Everything seemed completely disjointed. I would watch an episode and feel confused. Did I miss a line of dialogue or something that was important? But then I would go over to Wikipedia and look over what happened in the episode and realize that yes, I do recall all of that happening. What I just could not seem to piece together was why everything in that episode was in that episode. Was that character there just because otherwise if they followed one specific game route, they’d be completely left out? Was that event the only piece of a longer segment, which is why it doesn’t really tie in well with anything? Would those leaps of logic make sense in a different context? Is there no bizarre tonal shift in the game here because there is an actual transition? Those sorts of thoughts. Reading about the game made me even more confused. I’d start scratching my head wondering, “Wait, did I miss something? It says here that Shiki is supposed to have a split personality, but I don’t remember any of that. Hmm, and these episode summaries don’t seem to mention anything that even remotely sounds like that either. It can’t be me going crazy, right?”

But I digress. None of that matters. That is not the sort of thing that governs why all of these shows got burned onto spindle after spindle of CDs and DVDs. This is what matters:

Would I watch it even if I weren’t forced? I just can’t watch anime of Type-Moon games.

On one of my other artist highlights, ETERNAL commented that he was surprised to see Remillia Scarlet actually acting like a vampire instead of looking all moe. I found this a little funny, since the dark side is how I know the Scarlet family. I first got interested in Touhou when I kept running into Remillia pictures when I was searching the tag ‘blood’ (don’t ask), and seeing this captivating, dark beauty. Remillia has always been my favorite Touhou girl because of her tendency to be in dark images (which I love). So I decided I’d do my next artist highlight on someone who delights in depicting the Scarlet family in a darker way (as well as others like Hatsune Miku – yes, there is a trend in my artist highlights!) ban akira is an amazing artist, so I’m very glad to have his pixiv, website, blog, drawr, Nico Nico Douga tag, and even just his name in Japanese: 晩杯あきら.

I really shouldn’t even have to go into detail about what makes me love ban akira’s artwork, since his style is so thick that it’s a given people who are into that style will love it. When you see one of his pictures, it’s pretty easy to say ‘that’s definitely a ban akira drawing.’ I absolutely love a thick, dark style, especially with red and black (hence Fuzakenna’s blog design) and I also love when lines are drawn large and scratchy. I’ve used three of these as desktop background I believe.

‘Twilight Glass Moon, Fairy Tale Princess’

Kon’nichiwa! (Boa tarde, para quem não sabe….)

Meu primeiro post ;~ então irei me apresentar… Eu sou o Zetsubou, adoro ficar relaxando sem fazer nada ou lendo mangás, vendo animes, ou jogando MMORPGS, jogos em geral. Atualmente eu sou editor e tradutor (sim, nesses últimos dias aprendi um pouco como editar  \o/) e estou trabalhando em Tenshi Ja Nai e em Lunar Legend Tsukihime. Sim esse último foi algo que eu adiantei para vocês o/, pois como eu aprendi a editar então eu peguei uma série para fazer solo.

Imagine you’re standing on the beach, when suddenly a UFO appears, and out of a beam of light descends a being not like any you’ve seen before. The alien, speaking some intelligible tongue, seeming to concentrate for a moment, then turns to you and opens its mouth.

“Describe to me, this… ‘vagina.’”

You fumble for the right words, but realizing that as an alien he may have no understanding of Earth culture, you look for something as a point of reference. Finding a bed of mussels, you grab one and continue your description.

A number of people have written about Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night writer Nasu and his penchant for describing female genitalia using mollusk-themed vocabulary. When you think about it though, it’s a good physical description for someone like an extraterrestrial who has never seen human female reproductive anatomy. And with the nature of censorship in Japanese pornography, it’s possible (though perhaps unlikely, given the power of the internet in this age) that a virgin in Japan has never seen a real vagina, in photos or otherwise.

So in conclusion, Type Moon is simply preparing for the future when we will make contact with our brothers across the stars.
