PC performance optimization apps normally make me nervous, because they can mess with the registry and end up removing something I actually need. But my Windows (s msft) desktop computer has been driving me insane recently, especially with its sluggish startup, so I decided to give TuneUp Utilities 2010 a shot.

The interface is well-organized and keeps things simple so the user can fix one set of problems at a time. Its five key functions are maintenance, performance, problem fixing, customization and something called “turbo mode.”

Maintain system: Maintenance addresses registry problems, removes orphaned shortcuts and unneeded files and moves data on the hard disk for optimal performance and defragmenting. Maintenance functions can run automatically or manually.

Increase performance: Analyzes system performance, Internet settings and visual effect settings for unused programs, identifies functions slowing down performance, and optimizes hardware and other settings.

Fix problems: Repairs frequent Windows problems and display errors, restores needed deleted files, reviews the hard drive for errors and improves running programs.

Customize Windows: Windows customizations can contribute to slow performance. This function helps customize Windows to your liking, while ensuring optimal performance.

Turbo mode: This new feature in the latest release lets you configure the software so that when you need the computer to perform fast, you can quickly switch to Turbo mode, based on your customized options.

I knew I had some applications being loaded on startup that didn’t need to be there. But to go through them one-by-one would have been very time consuming. TuneUp Utilities simplifies this by listing all the startup programs by the program names — something you don’t get in Window’s System Configuration Utility’s startup list — and whether they’re necessary, optional or unnecessary.

Those identified as unnecessary are redundant startup applications, like iTunesHelper and Adobe Acrobat Quick Launch. Every startup program contains a description to help you judge whether to keep it or remove it from startup. I made the changes and it sped up my computer’s startup without any errors.

My newish computer had issues shortly after I received it, and TuneUp Utilities can only do so much in repairing performance. It performs best with computers that have had software installed and removed many times, something I haven’t done much of with my computer yet. In spite of this, I ran a performance benchmarking application before and after running TuneUp Utilities and it showed improvement.

I give TuneUp Utilities 2010 kudos for its simplicity and providing enough information so users can make informed decisions whether to make changes. It only recommended a couple of changes that I didn’t accept while I let it fix the rest. My computer has had no new problems after running the application for several weeks. We always must use caution when running performance applications like this, but TuneUp Utilities gives you what you need to make sound decisions. A full version of the app retails for $49.95, while an upgrade from earlier versions for $29.95, and a 30-day trial download is available.

eight months since i had installed my running Ubuntu, it has been upgraded from Interpid (8.10)  to Jaunty (9.04)

i don’t think that if it was windows it would last all this time, specially that i’m configuring, re-configuring and re-re-configuring the OS every meanwhile and playing with the system files..

i remember that my system crashed once or twice, and i mean by “crashed” that some fatal error occurs while loading which prevents logging in, normally in windows i used to re-install the system if something like that happened, but in those cases here i just google it and login in the terminal -something like safe mode but very safe actually- and edit some files and voila….

actually, the best think i liked here is that i’ve been using legal software ONLY for those 8 months, i didn’t crack or use “keygens” , which i couldn’t stop doing when using windows…

in windows i tried hard to use legal software but i couldn’t, there was an Alliance program between my University and Microsoft where i could get Windows, Visual Studio 2005,2008 even the professional editions, but no office, i really really really want to know “why isn’t there office?” , it was only for the university staff, i couldn’t find a reason for that rule…

i can not deny that Microsoft Office is awaaaay better than Open Office i’m using, but at least i’m not cracking anymore

The second main software i used to crack on windows was “Tune Up Utilities”, that was the ideal ventilator i used to keep windows up and running for long times, which i remember the longest time i had windows running normaly was nearly a year, but u can imagine it’s boot time, registry size, “C:” free space,….etc.

now all what had changed in my Ubuntu installation is it takes a bit longer time to load, it still boots in it’s 30-35 seconds, but takes may be the same time loading after the grub-boot

that happened after i’ve installed the KDE interface and removed it, a bit irritating but may be it’s the only here…

of course the disk space used in the root drive increased, and i have 9 GB out of 19 GB free

i’m just feeling i’m free to do whatever i want to my PC, i even found accidentally a script to display on a portion of my screen, i don’t know why would i use it, but “i can do it”

Dulu, di salah satu komputer Komputrix dipasang Windows Vista yang telah di-crack menggunakan crack dari Paradox. Instalasi dilakukan sesuai petunjuk dan Windows Vista Ultimate edition dapat digunakan dengan baik.

Ketika muncul Service Pack 1 untuk Windows Vista, komputrix kemudian memasangnya pada komputer tersebut. Ternyata, SP1 tidak hanya membawa perbaikan terhadap sistem tapi juga membawa sistem proteksi baru sehingga tak lama kemudian Windows berulang kali menyerukan aktivasi.

Komputrix kemudian menginstall ulang komputer tersebut dengan Windows Vista SP1 yang telah dilengkapi patch OEM dari Dell. Instalasi berjalan baik dan Windows Vista Ultimate edition SP1 teraktivasi dan berjalan dengan baik.

Beberapa hari lalu, komputrix mengunduh sebuah hotfix Universal Audio Architecture dari situs Microsoft. Entah bagaimana, tak lama kemudian Windows Vista dinyatakan tidak lagi teraktivasi dan menyerukan peringatan berulang-ulang agar Windows segera diaktivasi.

Setelah berjalan-jalan sebentar di internet, Komputrix menemukan sebuah program kecil berjudul Vista Loader. Program ini mengemulasikan BIOS OEM dari beberapa vendor terkemuka. Versi terbaru dari program ini telah mendukung Windows Vista SP1. Daripada harus menginstall ulang Windows, maka Komputrix memutuskan untuk mencoba program ini.

Program ini hanya terdiri dari satu file exe dan ukurannya kecil. Tidak perlu diinstall, begitu Anda ekstrak maka Anda dapat langsung menjalankannya. Ketika dijalankan, jendela seperti di samping akan muncul. Silakan pilih BIOS OEM yang sesuai untuk Anda. Jika Anda memilih “NO LOGO”, maka secara default BIOS yang akan dipakai adalah milik ASUS. Setelah memilih BIOS, proses akan berjalan otomatis. Anda hanya perlu menunggu beberapa saat dan me-restart komputer jika diperlukan.
