Yes, that’s right, folks, that age-old housewife’s love: Tupperware. I am hosting a Tupperware party tomorrow night. I’m not having it in my matchbox house, though, since my sister-in-law was kind enough to offer her house (I know she doesn’t read this, but THANK YOU, ALAINA!!). I made gingersnaps and hummus today (no, not to eat together..gross!) and tomorrow will cut veggies and make a fruit tray and brownies. And then haul myself and all that food over to Alaina’s and hopefully get some good deals. I have plans for organization: freezer storage containers. Particularly for frozen veggies: those plastic bags they come in, even when they are resealable, only last so long. After awhile, they start to let in the air and your peas end up freezer-burned. So I’m going to try to get my hands on a good hostess deal and buy some containers to store all that stuff in. With any luck, I won’t end up spending a fortune, but getting discounts instead. I hope…

I have no idea how many people to expect – so far I have just three people who I know are coming for sure. If they remember. Wish me luck!!

One of Tupperware’s most popular products, Vent ‘N Serve containers now come in new colo

One of Tupperware’s most popular products, Vent ‘N Serve containers now come in new colors: Peacock with Meadow vents. Last year the company redesigned their popular Rock ‘N Serve line by replacing the rocker-style vent with a pull tab silicone vent. Now the colors have gone from black with red vents to a brilliant teal color with yellow vents.

Like millions of people around the world, I love this product. Along with the Heat ‘N Serves and CrystalWaves, as well as the Oval Microwave Cooker and Microsteamer, they are part of Tupperware’s family of microwave products. One might say that they are the backbone of the family since they are so popular and widely used.

Designed to be used in the microwave with the seal on (after opening the vent in the seal), your microwave stays clean since the seal traps any food splatters. The product also is freezer and dishwasher safe. The little feet on the bottom of the container help to ensure even heating and cooling, as they allow for air circulation around it.

Best of all, the container is made out of a material that stays cool to the touch. No more hot handles to worry about when you remove your food container from the microwave. The same material is also used in Tupperware’s microwave luncheon plates. They work great in the freezer because they are so modular and stackable. I also find that they are easy to clean, as the food doesn’t stick to the interior of the container very much.

Vent ‘N Serve containers come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. I like the Medium Shallow and Small Round containers for storing and reheating leftovers, as well as for packing in my lunch bag. The Large Deep container is fantastic for casseroles and the Divided Dish works great for freezing a complete dinner for later use. My favorite, though, is the Vent ‘N Serve Mug. You can heat a can of just about anything in there. I use it a lot for soup and chili.

Right now, Vent ‘N Serve containers are on sale, so it’s a good time to get them. You can order online at my site: my.tupperware.com/handbells4me. You’ll also find a recipe archive there with many recipes designed for Vent ‘N Serve containers.

Here’s an easy recipe for Fiesta Chicken Casserole. Yummy!

Fiesta Chicken Casserole

Ingredients

3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
2 (10½ oz.) cans cream mushroom soup
1½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 small onion, chopped
1 can salsa verde or Simply Salsa
12 corn tortillas

Directions

Cut the chicken into bite size pieces and place in a large bowl. Add chopped onions, soup and salsa verde to bowl. Cut tortillas into small bite size pieces and add to bowl. If using block cheese, use the Grate ‘N Measure™ Grater to grate the cheese; add to bowl. Using a Saucy Silicone Spatula, mix all ingredients together thoroughly.

Place mixture into Oval Microwave Cooker or Vent ‘N Serve Large Deep. Seal container and microwave on high for 10 minutes. Stir and continue microwaving for an additional 10 minutes on high. Test chicken for doneness before serving.

THE TUPPERWARE SCARE

Last night I went to a Tupperware party at Katy Chalmers house. I had mixed up my days and received a phone call from her an hour into her party – oops. I rushed to get ready and arrived in time to smell the chocolate cake finishing in the oven and the demonstration nearly over. Not such a problem, I have seen it many times. But Im glad Katy telephoned me as it was Mystery Pack week this week, and I can’t resist ordering tupperware when a bonus mystery pack is involved.

TRUFFLES (MODIFIED FROM “TUPPERTRUFFLES”)

At the first tupperware party I attended (as an adult, not tagging along with mum as a kid) at Katy’s house we made Tuppertruffles. They were super-rich but delicious, and I came away from the party SOLD on the Tupperware Cool Cubes Trays. So I had a hankering for more truffles earlier this week, this is my version modified slightly from the Tupperware version in the following ways:

300gram cooking chocolate / 100 gram eating chocolate substituted for 200grams of each to suit the packs they come in

Omitted 1/4 tsp orange rind or drops of orange essence

1Tbsp orange liqueur substituted for 1Tbsp of Kahlua (it was in the pantry and goes well with chocolate)

50gram walnuts or hazlenuts substituted for almonds and peanuts (again, what I had in the pantry)

The Truffles are super easy, and result in a hard cracking chocolate shell surrounding a soft fudgy nutty liqueur centre. Give it a go, they will be ready in less than an hour.

Ingredients (modified as above)

50 grams of nuts

200 grams dark cooking chocolate

200 grams eating chocolate in dark, milk or white (I used milk, dark is over the top rich)

25 grams copha or kremelta

1/4 cup condensed milk

1 TBsp liqueur (Kahlua)

1 Tbsp dessicated coconut

Cocoa for dusting (if desired)

Method:

Toast the nuts in the Microwave on Medium High for 2 minutes, then allow to cool before roughly chopping.

Roughly chop all chocolate and place in a microwave jug with the Kremelta. Micro for 2 mins on Medium until softened, then stir with a spatula til runny.

Place condensed milk, liqueur, coconut and nuts into a bowl and add 1/4 cup of the melted chocolate mix. Stir til thick and fudgy.

Pour (the recipe says “carefully spoon”)melted chocolate into the ice trays to cover the base. Top with 1/2 teaspoon of the fudgy mixture, then pour (again recipe says to spoon) over the remaining chocolate to encase the fudgy mix

Refridgerate or Freeze for 15-30 mins ir until set. Twist ice trays to remove the truffles. Gently dust with cocoa if desired.

Truffles can be stored in an airtight container in the frige for up to two weeks, but I doubt they could last that long without being eaten.

When I got married my mom gave me her old kitchenware for our new apartment. They had been sitting in boxes under my grandpa’s garage for a few years. We went through the boxes together cleaning and sorting what survived, plates, bowls, mugs, pots, pans and silverware. I was and am very grateful for this mismatched assortment of housewares, lol because buying all those little things adds up and can become very expensive. It’s also very difficult to cook with limited utensils.

The Yellow Bowl

Among this assortment of dishes was a single yellow tupperware bowl. I didn’t really notice it at first, but it has since become my favorite bowl. We had it as long as I can remember. Oddly enough it brings back warm and fuzzy feelings whenever I use it. lol It’s also in really good condition. Lately I’ve be come a little bit of a vintage tupperware collector. My mom laughed the first time she heard me refer to her old containers as ‘vintage’. I bought a few items for my collection from ebay, but some had to be thrown out because they smelled like cigarette smoke or something else funky. So now I get most of my tupperware from thrift stores, where I can smell it before I buy it and I don’t have to pay for shipping. These containers are still very useful. I use mine all the time. They are great for storage because almost all the pieces come with air tight lids. I love the lids. When I was growing up my mom always kept sugar in them, one with white and one with brown. Never once did ants get to them.

My most recent thrift store find was a unique set of cups, or tumblers. These cups are not the normal harvest colors, brown, yellow, orange, or green, the iconic 70’s vintage Tupperware colors, but they are clear with a colorful printed design on them.

Rare Vintage Tupperware

I’ve never seen anything like it before. Have you? If you have anymore info about these cups I’d like to hear about it. I posed it on yahoo answers to get a date range and most people say 80’s.

Each day, my commute via mass transit is filled with tiny pearls of wisdom, life lessons, questions, and realizations that I share with you all from time to time.

Today I learned that the Bx19 has decided to change their schedule. Unbeknownst to the passengers like myself who have a very specific schedule they like to keep in order to make sure they make it to work on time, now buses are leaving earlier causing me to have to run once I exit the train. I do not like to run because running leads to tripping and I have too much pride….however I really can’t miss that bus. What is a girl to do?

Random MTA drivers get to board the bus wherever they want. They can also make the bus stop for their friends while other passengers have to run across the street to the actual bus stop. I thought we ALL had to go to the bus stop but whatever.

Sometimes people bring cups of coffee on the bus in the morning. Sometimes they bring a pastry. Sometimes they bring soup in tupperware…in the morning.

The coalition of kids selling candy, “just for them to stay out of trouble,” need to have a meeting and come up with a new pitch. The first 4 times I heard it, I giggled a bit. Now it’s old. I am happy to report that the coalition met and they have more than just starburst.

Ma’am please do not take the opportunity to confront the driver during rush hour whilst blocking the metrocard machine. Whatever issues you have can be resolved with you behind the white line while allowing people to pay their fare and board the bus.

Sir you appear to have some kind of phobia related to touching the pole. Yeah, I know it’s kind of gross, but you will fall if you continue to try and not hold on to anything. Holding that pole might be gross but your face and hands on the floor is much worse in my opinion.

Ok sir, no need to be irate. If you board the bus at Convent you can get off at St Nich with a transfer and use that to get onto the train. No need to not swipe your card because you don’t want to “double pay.” Also everyone else on the bus understands the process so trying to hype the front of the bus up regarding the “un-fair” transfer process will not work.

This is redundant but it seems to really be a daily lesson: Apparently the conventional rules for line-forming do not exist for the bus (unless it’s the express bus. I see those people in a straight line). (Daily) people assume that standing directly in front of the door that’s about to open doesn’t mean that you should go in first. By all means ma’am, stand on the yellow strip in front of me so that you can get on the train first. Sir, walk right in front of me and the 10 people waiting behind me to get on the bus just as it pulls up. One day I might swat someone with my newspaper.

Little girls standing outside of the 2nd door on the bus. Sigh. If you want to play little games with your friends that are seated on the bus, that’s cool. But please either get ON the bus or harass them via AIM. Standing in between the 2nd door, debating whether you’ll “do it” and sneak onto the bus while giving your friends the finger maybe fun for you however I would like to go home and I can’t because the doors won’t close.

Concurrently, people that like to jump on the back of the bus. You better not try that stuff on the Manhattan midtown buses. I’ve seen bus drivers stop the bus and follow passengers to the back when they tried to play that, “i’m looking for my card/change” game. The whole thing might be funny to watch, but I got places to go.

Train passengers, your arm strength will not open the train doors. They open automatically.

Lady, putting your bagel on the floor on a tissue is disgusting. I really can’t believe you picked that up and ate it. A lot of disgusting things happen on that floor and now they are rumbling around in your tummy .

Older woman at 191st. Again. I know that you have received the good word from the Lord, but the entire 1 train does not want to hear this from 191st until 145th. Can you just hand out a little flyer with your church info so that we know where to find you?

Woman with the stroller, first and foremost I apologize for running past you up the steps but 1) I didn’t want to get caught behind you struggling to lift the stroller up the stairs and 2) i don’t really trust myself trying to lift the stroller up to help you. God forbid I dropped my end.

Apparently the cooler weather has forced the “get light” kids onto the train. I see them from time to time. Usually on the A since it’s roomier. Sometimes on the 1. If you’re gunna get light on the train, i’ma need you to really go hard cause that lame ass, soul clap and half-hearted cooning will not make me clap along or contribute. If you’re going to chicken noodle soup, I need you to put your all into it. I need to really feel like you’re letting it rain and clearing it out. all or nothing!

Rant. I do it from time to time and I’m going to do it now. There are also cuss words in this rant. If you are sensitive and dont want to read a cuss word or two, now’s your chance to close this blog. This is particularly about MLM. If you aren’t sure what that is, it’s Multi Level Marketing. Ok, that in and of itself often inspires the cringe from most self respecting people. Part of the reason for this is because some people participate in some rather crappy tactics. Unethical BS and things that make my own skin crawl. This rant is about those people. Avon is one example of multi level marketing. So is tupperware, there are loads of them out there. Not all are crappy. It’s often the people that just use crappy tactics and it often has nothing to do with the company. Even your Avon lady might try to get you to sign up to sell Avon. THAT is multi level. Avon and Tupperware are just fine. I have no issue with them. This isn’t about those companies.

Now I don’t sell Avon or tupperware and this isn’t an advertisement. I’m not pimping, pandering or peddling anything here. I haven’t been in it all that long and I do okay. However, some people are just all about recruiting. They don’t market the product…. They just recruit, to recruit, to recruit yet more recruiters and often they don’t even talk about the product. They do things like posting the “Opportunity” in the employment sections and “Job offered” on Craigslist and that frankly chaps my ass. It’s a rotten practice. It’s bait and switch. It’s called SPAM, the definition of which is, according to the company I represent “Spam is the indiscriminate posting and distribution of unsolicited electronic messages over the Internet in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it.”

If you post in “job offered” sections, you are spamming and tricking them into thinking it’s a job and then they later find out the real deal. That is spam. They were looking for a job, not to go into business for themselves. Now, keep in mind, some will do everything in their power to circumvent TOS of many websites that absolutely disallow posting any MLM or “Opportunity” in the employment or job sections. Craigslist is quite clear on that. I post ads there, but not in the “job offered” section. There are even some on my own damn team that do it and I frankly have had it. A manual was sent out describing in great detail about how to post these MLM opportunities in the jobs sections and not get flagged or blocked and how to post the ads in multiple cities at the same time (didn’t I say spam?). I told them that if I found anyone using those types of deceptive business practices, that I would report it. Well, I did. I did it today. They might kick me off the team but I don’t care at this point. I don’t need them to stay in business. Its people like that, that give MLM a bad reputation and make MY job at marketing that much more difficult. It’s RIDICULOUS. I personally have to overcome people’s skepticism that CRAPPY MLMers caused and 9 times out of 10, I dont even recruit.

If you are an MLMer, let me tell you something. Don’t spam people. Don’t post your opportunity in the job section. It’s bait and switch and makes me want to kick your ass. Don’t brow beat your family and friends, they’re tired of hearing it at every turn while it’s always in the back of your mind how to recruit them. Save yourself the time and energy of always trying to circumvent the anti spam TOS on employment websites. It’s a shitty practice and you ruin it for those of us who are NOT unscrupulous recruiters. Stop being a jerk and actually READ the TOS and keep your advertising within the confines. You can post it, just don’t say you have a job offer. You don’t! We’ll all be a LOT happier and you might not have to work so hard because you wont be having to explain to some unemployed person why your ad said it was for a job and actually isn’t. You won’t have to explain why you lied if you just don’t lie. People are smart enough to know if they’re being rooked and will realize it isn’t a bono-fide job offer. It’s an insult not only to the person who may have responded to your ad that you’re now trying to recruit and you don’t seem to think they’ll notice but it’s also an insult to internet and multi level marketers everywhere. You, you unscrupulous recruiters are the epitome of what makes this business difficult. If you don’t know how to appropriately market your product/opportunity to your target audience, you should get the hell out of the business. Unemployed job seekers are NOT your target audience. If they wanted to go into business for themselves, they will seek out how to do it. Now get your ass off the job boards!

Hello, and happy, happy Friday! I hope you all are looking forward to a nice and relaxing (and hopefully rainy?) weekend, as I definitely am.

One thing I like to do on the weekends is stroll through the local flea market. The one at Delta College is not huge, but it’s clean and you can find some good stuff, like pomegranates and pink flamingos. Here are some photos. It’s the first time I’ve photographed this market; for some reason I always feel weird photographing here. Do you guys get that sometimes?

Last week I was completely obsessed with idea of buying more Thermoses after seeing this collection belonging to Elsie*Cake. So I went into the weekend planning to find some. I found a whole bunch at the market, but decided they’ll have to wait to go home with me until I have a little more space for them.

And, drum roll, please: I walked away with these $1 pink flamingos. Oh so happy!

Have a great weekend, and splurge on something used!

Andrew Samtoy

Mitch and I have been having an ongoing discussion about free food. We are not allowed to get free food in this Ultimate Food Competition; it counts against the total we spend for the week; I think that this borders on absurd. As I understand it, the arguments are thus:

For counting free food toward our $26.50 total:

People on welfare do not have the opportunities to get free food that others might have.

Against counting free food toward our $26.50 total:

People on welfare would have the obligation to accept free food whenever offered.

I have several events coming up where free food would have been obtained:

Mediation (lunch)

Happy hour with the Lake County Bar Association

Dinner with a friend (Friday)

Dinner with a friend (Saturday)

Samples at the Fabulous Food Show on Sunday (free admission in exchange for volunteering)

This is how things panned out:

Mediation – I’m bringing soup in Tupperware. Then, I’m going to talk to people about why I’m not eating their food. It’ll be a good discussion topic, I think.

Happy Hour – because of the mediation, I can’t go to happy hour. Solved.

Dinners – both were postponed to the following Friday and Saturday – out of the time period for this experiment.

Samples – I’m just going to have to avoid them. Anyways, last time they charged for samples and I think that’s ridiculous.

I’m still having problems with the idea of turning down free food for being on welfare, though. If someone who doesn’t have any money goes to the Salvation Army, for example, would they turn down the meals offered just because they were free? If Mitch randomly found himself at the Leather Stallion Saloon, would he be obligated to turn down a free drink? If a neighbor knew you were poor, and baked you a casserole or some brownies, would you turn them away at the door simply because you were poor? What about Tony Robbins, knocking on a door with a box of food for Thanksgiving? I believe that the obligation would be for each of these people to accept all of the free offerings they can. (You too, Mitch.)

This reminds me: I once volunteered at the Salvation Army for Thanksgiving. Toward the end of mealtime, a group of 20-something guys walked in. The leader had designer jeans, a designer shirt, a designer jacket, brand-name shoes, gold chains, diamond studs in his ears, a new-looking baseball cap, sunglasses and a gold grill in his mouth. He then proceeded to sit down next to a 14-year-old girl and hit on her, and the volunteers served them all Thanksgiving dinner. He could get all the trappings of apparent wealth, but he couldn’t get food for himself unless it was free – yet none of them turned down the free food that they could get. Why, then, should we?

Dixie Longate is an off-broadway solo-act performer and Tupperware sales lady. Her show, “Dixie’s Tupperware Party” has earned her the title of “America’s #1 Tupperware Sales person”.

Currently, the Alabama born Dixie has taken her show on the road, creating Tupperware converts across the country. Her routine, a mixture of humorous, brass, endearing and informational performance, makes anyone in Dixie’s path fall in love with her and (even more importantly) her product.

—————————————————-

Jon Miller: There are so many products that are sold at “door to door” style parties similar to your own. Some, such as sex toys and make-up, seem like a more obvious choice for a salesperson as brassy and fabulous as yourself. What made you gravitate towards Tupperware?

Dixie Longate: Well, my parole officer was the one who got me started in Tupperware. I guess I was always pretty good at sales looking back. I mean the amount of times I would leave the trailer in the morning to go to school with empty pockets and by lunch time, end up with enough Lincoln’s to buy half of the cafeteria a pint of 2% milk, well, lets just say, it made this 4th grader pretty proud. My parole officer told me when I got released that I needed a job in order to get my kids back. Seeing how the restraining order prevented me even going into certain parts of town after 6pm, I told her that it was just a ridiculous idea. Well, she worked her magic as only a lesbian in the police force can do, and Shazaam, I started selling these fantastic bowls.
When I did my first party, I was terrible. I would pick up a bowl and call it a spoon! I was knocking everything over. I have to admit, I was just plain nervous. Not the nerves you get on a first date when you have seen his dirty pictures on the internet and you are just biding time till you get to hop in the back seat and verify that it was a real picture in his profile. Not that kind of nervous. I mean truly nervous.

I hadn’t sold anything for ages.

But when the host of the party brought me out a cocktail and didn’t charge me for it and then people started buying things and giving me money, I felt a little shiver come crawling up my spine. I couldn’t imagine actually getting paid to drink for free. Right then and there, I knew I had found the job for me.

JM: You must be the most radical thing to happen to the Tupperware brand since it’s inception. How did you successfully pitch the idea for your show to the Tupperware corporation?

DL: You have to keep in mind that although the creation of the products was all from the mind of Earl Tupper, it took a woman named Brownie Wise to actual take the products off of the shelves and create the Tupperware Party. She was a revolutionary business woman back in the day. She was the one who figured out that in order to sell brand new, space age, non-breakable bowls, with an air-tight seal to women in the kitchen, she had to actually bring them into the kitchen. Back then, that was a very radical idea. I mean, selling products door to door was nothing new, but to bring women together and get them in a buying frenzy in the middle of their own living room, well, that was truly breaking every sales tradition that was out there. Tupperware has always been a pretty progressive company I think. You really have to be progressive and ever-changing and filled with incredible vision to be able to get a company whose mainstay is plastic bowls to be able to remain success and survive for 65 years. It’s no easy feat. And who hasn’t heard of a Tupperware Party? Everyone knows about it whether you have been to one or not. That is what is so remarkable about the brand.

When I asked them if they would let me keep selling their products and bring them to a whole new group of people that probably forgot that Tupperware even existed, well, I have to give them tons of credit. They approached the idea with lots of integrity and lots of smiles. That is why I still love working for Tupperware all these years later.

JM: In your show, you can sometimes come across as a bit….confrontational. Do people in the audience ever not get the joke?

DL: Sadly, sometimes people sit there and end up all grim-faced and frowny. I don’t understand that. I mean if everyone around is laughing and having a good time, why are you working so hard to be moody? What does that get you in life? I am a woman with 3 kids from the not too good area of Mobile, Alabama. Where I grew up, you had to get good at fighting for what you believe in. I never had much money and it didn’t look like I was going to have all that good of a future. I really struggled for a good long time and I have to tell you, I earned my right to be where I am. So many people who are looking down their nose at me probably didn’t have to lift a finger to get where they are. When they are having a miserable time in life, it gets my back up. I am just here trying to spread some love and uplift some people. I want people to understand that they are in control of their own lives and there is so much more out there for most people than they can ever even dream of. Sometimes, when I come up against someone who is grim-faced, I get a bit stern I guess. It comes from raising three kids on my own. I never want to be mean, but I will tell you, I’m not a push over either. If people are being slugs at the Tupperware Party, and taking away from other people’s enjoyment, well, don’t start crying when I get up in your face and tell you to shape up. It is what we call “tough love” back at home. You might not like it, but it is how you grow.

JM: You are billed as “the #1 Tupperware seller in the US and Canada”. How competitive is the business? Do you have any Tupperware enemies as a result of your success?

DL: Currently, I have slid in sales a bit. I don’t know if it is the economy or that people don’t really get that they can buy Tupperware at the shows, but I am still working everyday to stay on top. After all, that is what a good Christian does. I go to the Jubilee Convention every year and watch as new people get on stage for recognition. It is so amazing to watch people stand onstage and be cheered for and respected like they have never been before in their lives. And they did all of this on their own. This is by virtue of their own work and ingenuity. That, I have to say, earns them respect from me every time. You know the funny thing; the people that I am standing onstage at the top with, they are never jealous or ungracious about success. Last year, when I earned the Top spot, I remember standing onstage with another gal who had worked her tail off all year. Right before they announced me as #1, she turned to me and grabbed my hand and said,”I just have to tell you this. I am so proud of you. Congratulations.” Now THAT is a classy lady. I have a picture of her on my desk where I put in my Tupperware orders. The people who work the hardest are never the ones who give you grief. It is the people who aren’t successful who are always jealous and saying that others are bad because of this, that and the other thing. ”I can’t get anyone to host a party cause Dixie takes them all from me. I can’t sell lots cause I have four kids and I work full-time. It’s not fair that I’m not onstage getting recognized because I worked just as hard.” Shut up you damn whore. Stop making excuses for the lack of your success. Ain’t nobody going to hand it to you. You gotta earn it. Hell, I did. Do you think someone just came up and gave me almost a quarter of a million dollars in sales last year when I was #1? Hell, no. I had to earn every single one of those sales. I did party after party, and sold bowl after bowl. I didn’t make excuses, and I was rewarded for it. That is my advice to people I guess. Stop looking at others as the problem. Take that time that you are bellyaching about something and get off your duff and do something about it. Because you know what is more fun that bitching about what you don’t have? It’s earning the things that you do have. Amen! I’m proud of what I have achieved and you know what, I am proud of every single guy and gal that I stand on stage with at the Jubilee every year, cause I know they have worked every bit as hard as I have. I respect those people. That is who I look to the for advice. You want to do better in life? Get a better group of people to hang out with.

The cream always rises.

—————————————————————————

Blanda i Grillkryddan.. Smaska ner färsen, Å Kom Ihåg! Fläskfärs ska det vara… Inget annat duger! Hiva i äggen och rör om.
Hacka löken till “nästan mos”, (har ni inte Tupperwares Löckhackare så får ni skylla er själva eller köpa en av mig!) Blanda ner löken i smeten
M.a.o.. spara skyn/brynjan/steksmöret som blir i stekpannan..

Jeeeettebra :=D

So, I was making some polenta (god, I just love polenta. Talk about comfort food) and tomato sauce (from tomatoes grown in my yard by my dear husband) for my first post-fast meal tomorrow evening. And I just had to laugh because I pulled out three pieces of ktichenware that all bore the markings of my husband.

See, my husband has been known to occasionally put plastic items too close to the grill or burner when he’s cooking. Now, a lot of women would just be so happy that their husbands are cooking, they would not begrudge their husbands a few melted bowls. I’m not a lot of women. I will not begrudge, but I am going to laugh at it.

Most of the melted items have already been disposed of, but here a few that are still in my kitchen. Enjoy!

Storage is a fundamental basic in the world of organization. When a project needs to be tackled, on

Storage is a fundamental basic in the world of organization. When a project needs to be tackled, one of the initial steps usually includes how to store stuff, where to store it, and if a storage or organizational system needs to be purchased. Buyer Beware!!! I’d like to highly recommend that you don’t go out and buy 20 plastic storage containers before starting your project. Understand that unless it is storage you will use regularly and make sense for the project, it will not help you in staying organized. So many times people run out and purchase what they think will work without going through the following steps to ensure they have the right unit for their need.

1. Make a list (I know it’s starting to sound redundant…but I’m hoping it will sink in). What are the things you need stored? How many will you need? What do you want it to look like? Is it viewable to guest and thus should be more decorative, or is it for the attic? Do you need to take into consideration heat, cold, or air tightness?Take measurements. What size do you need?

2. Scour the house for what you have. You often have various possibilities in storage units with things you already own. And since you already own them, you most likely bought them liking their appearance or usefulness, and now you will be able to repurpose them for what you need.

3. Buy what you need. Remember to buy what you need, and will use. There is no point dropping hundreds of dollars on new storage if you won’t use it. And remember to bring your measurements, list, and measuring tape with you. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in the middle of a store with five different plastic storage bins in the middle of the aisle, with my measuring tape, making sure they will fit into the space I have allocated for them.

Planning goes a long way and will help you to not only stay organized but actually use what you have worked so hard to design.

Don’t Agonize-Organize!

There are certain things in life I don’t understand. I’m not talking about how televisio

There are certain things in life I don’t understand. I’m not talking about how television works or how rockets can fly to the moon or why men get intense pleasure out of watching football. I’m talking about more mundane, every-day-life stuff that sometimes just plain stumps me. And frustrates the shit out of me.

Like for instance, why can I never find a matching lid for the Tupperware? I have them all in one drawer, and I’ll pull out a plastic container and what looks like the matching top, pour food into the container and go to put the lid on and – BAM! – it doesn’t fit. Like Cinderella’s evil stepsisters trying to squeeze their big ass feet in that little glass slipper, I try with all my might to make that lid fit. I plead, I beg, I make promises: ”I’ll never putt Brussel sprouts in you again if you just fit!” But it never works. I try three more tops, all the while getting more and more worked up, swearing and cussing under my breath (and sometimes not so quietly) until I finally find the right one, or I just get so fed up I put tin foil on the dam Tupperware and throw it in the fridge with a “That’ll show you!”

Another thing I don’t understand is why, oh why, is there that maddening space between the front seats in a car and the middle console? I refer to this area as the Black Hole. Once you drop something down there, you will never see it again. I have dropped food, money, pens, keys, credit cards and even my Blackberry. It’s like some kind of weird purgatory – you can see the items in that shadowy realm, but you can’t reach them. I’ve tried using magazines, pens and straws – anything that is skinny – to try and push the lost items toward the pedals, but it rarely works. So now when I get in my car, I can gaze down at that cemetary of forgotten things, sometimes with longing. Like when I see a Hershey’s Kiss that I can’t get my paws on. Damn it! You’d think if we can make cars that can tell you where you are going, if you have a flat tire or if you are about to back up into something, they could seal up the Black Hole. Well, a girl can dream.

Along those same lines, I don’t understand why I can never find my phone in my purse. There’s hardly anything in my bag – check book, wallet, chapstick, tampon, a pen, and my phone. But whenever my Blackberry starts wringing, fuhgettaboutit. My little hands will not discover it. Especially when I am driving. The phone will be buzzing and I’ll be frantically digging around in my bag for it while trying to stay on the road and yell at my children to be quiet, and it will just not be there. I think there are secret compartments in my purse that I’m not aware of. When I need my phone, it scampers off into these dark recesses of my bag and hides from me. I know it. But one day, I’m going to get you my pretty!
