So, here’s a quick tutorial, Stitch style. I used an old frame, bought in a charidee for 50p and, using watered down PVA Glue, I covered it with old gold tissue paper. I left it to dry and went to work on the picture. This was a product of a digital sketch of a bird…

I took the basic sketch, played with it using some very cool apps (I will post on these shortly but they are all free or pennies) , ending up with…

I then printed it onto old sheet music, ripped it up and stuck it back together, cut it to size and put it in the frame.

It’s not quite ‘finished’ enough yet but I’m pleased so far. The frame probably needs more tweaking. Have a go. It’s a lark.

Its all about the flawless skin. Take a little extra time and conceal any blemishes and dark spots. You want a bright canvas for the lipstick. The first way to wear this trend is with only a little contour to give your face some dimension. For this one, skip the mascara and just groom those brows.

Going out without mascara is not something I do often but some girls can really rock this. If you need some help with those lashes, just like me, here is the second way to wear these lips. Simply add some mascara. If this still doesn’t give you the thickness you need, try wiggling a small amount of brown matte shadow into the base of your lashes with an angled brush to give the illusion of thicker lashes. Make sure you pick a mascara that is feathery and separating. You want to avoid clumps at all costs.

And if you are someone who cant live without shadow, here is the last one. Add a bright shimmer to the inner corner of the eye and sweep lightly across the lid. This really helps you look awake and fresh.

You can find matte colours very easily if you look for high end brands and while the drugstores have started with a few, its just not the same. However, if you are on a budget, all the lipsticks I used are from the drugstore! I just used a transparent loose powder to set them to a matte finish ( see post on the Perfect Red Pout to perfect your lips )

These are a bit more complicated than the comforter cover but very doable.

I made all 4 of these from a white sheet.   I bought all these pillows at Salvation Army for $10.

I obviously have a few more pillows to make covers for.  Those tutorials will be in the future.  The inspiration for my pin tucks came from this site.  I plan on making a  flower pillow next.

For the pillows you first need to measure the pillow you are going to work with.  Measure both the length and width.

Here are the pillows with their measurements on paper.

So, for pin tucking a pillow it is best to cut out the front piece separately from the two back pieces.  I cut out 3 pieces because the back will overlap and leave you a big slip to insert your pillow into. 

This is what the backs of the pillows look like.  After cutting the material out for the back pieces you will need to fold and sew along one edge for the finished look.  One of the edges I cut out the sheet edge so I didn’t have to sew that one.

Now, on my measurements I have them listed for a non pintucked pillow.  The back measurements are correct but in order to allow for the added material that will be needed to make pin tucks you will want to add in 3 inches all around the front piece.  So for the one that is 16×16 cut out a piece of material that is 19 or 20×19 or 20.  It’s really not that big of a deal, don’t get frustrated just measure add the inches and cut out your pieces.

For the 2 smaller pictures I made a grid that is 2X4.

I used my cutting guide to mark out the grid on the back of the material.

After the material is marked, (I used a pencil to mark the little dots) then sew.  I had to use my old vibratory shuttle White machine.  We bought it at Salvation Army for 35 dollars.  Best 35 dollars we’ve spent there.  It sews anything.  Ttwist the material as much as possible and then sew about a 1/4 inch in.

And a close up shot.  I tend to like to twist them more than I did in this particular tuck.

After all the tucks are sewn lay out the front piece and pin the tucks around the edge.  Notice in this picture that around the edge there is extra material because you gathered the material for the pin tucks.

Then piece together the three pieces of material.

1-lay out the pintuck piece face up.

2-lay one back piece on top of that so that the 2 right sides are facing each other. (Lay down the piece you want to be seen on top once you turn it inside out)

3-lay the other back piece on top with the right side facing down.  (The 2 back pieces should have the right sides facing the front right side piece.)

Now pin the pieces together and sew all the way around the edge of the pillow.  Make sure in the middle where the 3 layers of material are together that you sew through all 3.  This was a bit tricky at first for me.

The cool part is that you sew all around the edge without worrying about leaving a hole for turning.  I love it!

Once it is turned you can put your pillow in and you’re done!

Now we’re going to talk about the shams.

Measure the pillow the same as we did before.  Follow all the instructions the same as before except add 2 inches around for the added sham part.  So for the front, if your pillow is 26X17 then add 3 inches for the pintucks, 2 inches for the sham and to make it easy 1 inch for the seam.  Now the front pillow piece you cut is 32×23.  And for the back you only need to add the 2 inches for the sham and 1 inch for seam allowance and then 2 inches on one piece for the overlap.  So the back measurements would look like this 1 piece- 31X21 and 29X21.  Make sense?  If not shoot me a question or google pillow sham tutorial.

Now that you have your pieces of material you can mark out the back of your pillow with the grid for pintucking.  For the shams I did a 4X4 grid.  Here’s what it looks like on paper.  Mark it onto the back of the pillow and twist and sew each tuck.

Again you’ll have to pin over the extra material that is around the edges.

Then lay the material out as described above-right sides together.  And sew all around the edge of the pillow.  Then turn right side out and iron.  Now measure 2 inches around the pillow and use white chalk to mark it or what ever you use to mark your material.  Then sew around and you have a sham.
