<p>I&#8217;m sure a lot of Pinoys will agree to me that this TV commercial of Camella Homes is one of the cutest ads ever made in the Philippines. I have to say that the advertiser and/or its advertising agency made a very good choice of the main talent for this campaign because it attracted a lot of attention from the viewing public. For quite a short period of time of airing this advertisement, it has built a good recall especially its jingle. And since it has been quite popular, we kinda expect that people will start spoofing the commercial.</p>

<p>Sometimes i miss being be part of an advertising group conceptualizing nice commercials and ads. It feels great when a successful campaign is acknowledged and you know that you&#8217;re one of the contributors of that success.</p>

<p><strong>VeriChip</strong> (CHIP), the company that markets a microchip implant that links to your online health records, has <a href="http://www.verichipcorp.com/pressreleases/090809.html">acquired <strong>Steel Vault</strong></a> (SVUL), a credit monitoring and anti-identity theft company. The combined company will operate under a new name: <strong>PositiveID</strong>.</p>
<p><img src="http://i.bnet.com/blogs/chip9502.jpg" alt="" width="191" height="239" />The all-stock transaction will leave PositiveID in charge of a burgeoning empire of identity, health and microchip implant businesses that will only encourage its critics. BNET previously noted that some regard the company as part of <a href="http://industry.bnet.com/pharma/10004713/microchip-implant-controversy-the-mark-of-the-beast-or-the-coming-singularity/">a prophecy in the Book of Revelation</a> (because the HealthLink chip carries an RFID number that can be used as both money and proof of ID) or as part of President Obama’s secret Nazi plan to enslave America.</p>
<p>The most obvious criticism to be made of the deal is that it potentially allows PositiveID to link or cross-check patient health records (from the HealthLink chip) to people’s credit scores. One assumes that the company will put up firewalls to prevent that. PositiveID CEO <strong>Scott Silverman </strong>said:</p>
<blockquote><p>“PositiveID will be the first company of its kind to combine a successful identity security business with one of the world’s first personal health records through our Health Link business. PositiveID will address some of the most important issues affecting our society today with our identification tools and technologies for consumers and businesses.”</p></blockquote>
<p>Unless, of course, consumers don’t actually want to be implanted with chips, have their health records available over the internet, or have their medical records linked to their credit scores.</p>

As part of a fully integrated campaign in the US, it explains how this 4-seater represents &#8220;another bold line on the family tree&#8221;. It doesn&#8217;t make me like the Panamera even a bit&#8230; but the very sleek execution and seeing all those vintage and not-so-vintage German missiles going &#8216;pedal to the metal&#8217; in the middle of a desert makes me love Porsche even more!</p>

<p>I just saw Sec. Gilbert &#8220;Gibo&#8221; Teodoro&#8217;s (Lakas-Kampi) campaign ad this morning and my, it was done tastefully. It is being shown right now on ABS-CBN as I type this entry. I really like the part when the voice over said &#8220;Pinalad na maging bar topnotcher&#8230;&#8221; owing it to luck instead of claiming supremacy and asserting his intelligence. It did make a comeback, towards the end, with the &#8220;Galing at Talino&#8221; slogan which I think will be the battlecry of his campaign next year. Though it promotes him being a person qualified to run for president, it does it very subtly, withGenerally, the commercially was very refreshing to see unlike the other campaign ads for Erap, Binay and Villar. I think, this ad is the most sensible and straightforward ad so far. Can&#8217;t wait for Noynoy&#8217;s campaign ad to come out, he hasn&#8217;t put out any since he decided to run for president last month but I hope its in the works already.</p></div>

<p>Toyota&#8217;s Australian division is ramping up its advertising efforts on its hybrid synergy drive technology as the company is getting ready to introduce a total of eight new hybrid models to the market over the next four years, starting with the <a href="http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2009/02/toyota-to-preview-australian-camry.html">locally built Camry Hybrid</a> in February 2010. To get the key message around, Toyota aired a new locally produced television commercial called &#8220;Better Together&#8221; that was created by Sydney advertising agency Saatchi and Saatchi.</p>
<p>There are no cars in the advertisement which shows a man with another version of himself standing behind and helping him around with his daily chores &#8211; just like an electric motor assists the gasoline engine in Toyota&#8217;s hybrid models.</p>
<p>&#8220;The key message is &#8216;Better Together&#8217; &#8211; that two things working together can achieve more than any one thing ever could,&#8221; says Toyota Australia&#8217;s senior executive director sales and marketing, David Buttner. &#8220;It is a metaphor for Hybrid Synergy Drive technology, which continues to improve, produce more power and use less fuel with fewer emissions,&#8221; he said.</p>
<p>The Hybrid Synergy Drive &#8216;Better Together&#8217; commercial went to air in Australia on the evening of Sunday, 25 October.</p>

<p>The ad plays on the anti-Snyder theme and should help reinforce what <a href="http://www.deedsforvirginia.com" target="_blank">Creigh Deeds</a> and the Democrats from the local to the state level are ALL about: raising your taxes.</p>

Ford&#8217;s newest ads feature real Ford owners talking about features they like in their new vehicles. The 15-second spots highlight the company&#8217;s new technologies featured in much of its 2009 and 2010 lineup including SYNC, Travel Link and even the second row refrigerator in the Ford Flex. <br style="line-height:.8em;" /><br style="line-height:.8em;" />You can now watch Paul, Becky, Hayley, Kristen, Jonathon, Amie and Adam talk about their favorite new features. We&#8217;re thinking it&#8217;s a little annoying that everyone in the commercial is under 30 and Ford found it necessary to use the lame shaky camera bit to give the quick ads that viral YouTube look, but that seems to be all the rage these days. On the bright side, Becky loves her Fusion Hybrid so much that she can&#8217;t help but mumble at the end.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Is your company cool? Is it cool enough to try to work social media lexicon into it’s advertising. Apparently two companies thought they were. I’m sorry to report they were wrong.</p>

<p>The first advertisement in question is part one of the multiple-part Twix Get The Girl series. In this delightful ad we have two people conversing at what appears to be a party of some sort – I don’t know if it’s a college party in a big room, or if a bunch of people broke into the local <a href="http://www.zgallerie.com" target="_blank">ZGallerie</a> and decided to throw a party. Our “hero” character, who bears a resemblance to <a href="http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3582367488/tt0077975" target="_blank">Bluto from Animal House</a>, is listening to a cute, way-out-of-his-league, girl rant on about some political issue that,  in his current state of inebriation, he obviously doesn’t care about. As soon as he stumbles upon a nearly cohesive response to her banter the inevitable “…I know, right? You want to go to my apartment?” comment slips out. Then the announcer comes on in a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1xtpsY0_LI" target="_blank">“meanwhile, at the hall of justice”</a> moment and our hero discretely sucks down an apparently sobering Twix in order to shoot back with some half-witted comment about “blogging about our ideals, but…” And of course our female friend “loves blogging.” as if it were an activity one would perform at a regular social gathering. In this context it sounds more like she would be saying “oh, bowling, I love bowling” or “oh, pie I love pie!” instead of an online publishing tool.</p>

<p>The next commercial is even more awkward in its attempted use of pop-culture name-dropping. Bud Light’s The Breakup is a great commercial. It puts a couple driving in a car with the girl breaking up with boy. The first pass she’s too nice with the comment “we’ll just be together a lot less, like separate” as a means of breaking up. On the second go round when he asks, “are you breaking up with me” she shoves him out of the moving car. This commercial is great! Fantastic, move on, cut to the product shot – sold. But wait there’s more! As our recently discarded guy pulls himself upright he yells, “I’ll Facebook you.” Really. Really! If this couple were dating would they not already be connected, if not “in a relationship with” each other on Facebook. Even in the context of a Facebook Message this does not make since to me. If they broke up in such a violent manner I think she would unfriend him, thus making him unable to “Facebook her.”</p>
<p>Both of these ads had potential until they started trying to be cool. It reminds me of Dr. Evil in <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118655/" target="_blank">Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery</a> when he tries to do the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macarena_%28song%29" target="_blank">Macarena</a> to show Scott that he’s <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGp0cNjtmHM" target="_blank">“Hip” (minute 6:50)</a>. One of the best commercials for dropping the fashionable lingo of today’s youth was the Palm Pre Now Network ad series (<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-tRHNElTo4" target="_blank">especially the first one</a>). Why was it so good &#8211; because it was relevant and didn’t try to be anything that it was not. It had up-to-date topics, and was ahead of the curve by citing “26% of you viewing this have no idea what [twitter] means.</p>
<p>Here’s some advice to our advertising execs out there: Don’t drop in some awkward attempt at connect to a demographic that you don’t understand. If you want to appeal to a new demographic do your research, hire some competent consultants, and don’t just throw around buzzwords to make yourself feel better. It just makes you look distant and out of touch.</p>

<description><![CDATA[Senator Creigh Deeds, the Democratic nominee for Governor of Virginia, is out with a new ad stating ]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><a href="http://www.deedsforvirginia.com/" target="_blank">Senator Creigh Deeds</a>, the Democratic nominee for Governor of Virginia, is out with a new ad stating the the Senator &#8216;opposes any new energy taxes from Washington.&#8217; Anita Kumar of the Virginia Politics blog, <a href="http://voices.washingtonpost.com/virginiapolitics/2009/10/post_414.html" target="_blank">had this to say</a>:<br />
<blockquote>Deeds has said he opposes the cap and trade bill, and has never said what specific tax increase he would support.</p></blockquote>
<p>Wrong on both counts Ms. Kumar as usual.</p>
<p>Here is what <a href="http://www.bobmcdonnell.com/" target="_blank">Bob McDonnell</a> has said about Creigh Deeds.</p>
<p>Deeds was a member of <a href="http://www.deq.state.va.us/export/sites/default/info/documents/climate/CCC_Final_Report-Final_12152008.pdf" target="_blank">Gov. Tim Kaine&#8217;s (D-VA) Climate Change Commission</a>. The Commission, in their final report, called on Congress to establish<br />
<blockquote>&#8220;a Mandatory Economy-Wide Cap And Trade Program.&#8221; </p></blockquote>
<p>Mr. Deeds, <a href="http://hrsierraclub.org/VirginiaGovernor.htm" target="_blank">in&#160;response to a Sierra Club questionnaire this spring</a> answered&#160;question #2 by saying:<br />
<blockquote>&#8220;As a member of Gov. Kaine&#8217;s Climate Change commission, I have endorsed the many measures undertaken through our work;&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Another of the Commissions recommendations was:<br />
<blockquote>The Governor and General Assembly should consider adopting a more aggressive GHG reduction goal that more closely reflects the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recommendations. The IPCC recommendations call for reducing GHG emissions by 25% below the 1990 level by 2020, and 80% below the 1990 level by 2050. This Climate Change Action Plan recommends actions needed to reduce near- and medium-term<br />GHG emissions and meet the GHG emission reduction target of Executive Order 59. Virginia will need to take additional actions to achieve the long-term reductions recommended by the IPCC.</p></blockquote>
<p><a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/09/16/taking_liberties/entry5316600.shtml" target="_blank">The Obama Administration has admitted</a> that measures such as these could cost families up to $1,761 per year, $6800 Over Next 4 Years for the average Virginia household. <br />
<blockquote>&#8220;The Obama administration has privately concluded that a cap and trade law would cost American taxpayers up to $200 billion a year, the equivalent of hiking personal income taxes by about 15 percent … the total in new taxes would be between $100 billion to $200 billion a year. At the upper end of the administration’s estimate, the cost per American household would be an extra $1,761 a year.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>The National Association Of Manufacturers &#38; American Council For Capital Formation recently <a href="http://www.accf.org/media/docs/nam/2009/Virginia.pdf" target=":&#34;_blank&#34;">commissioned a study</a> on the Cap and Trade legislation pending before Congress and found that the legislation would kill up to 56,000+ Virginia jobs. <br />
<blockquote>&#8220;The jobs impact of [the Waxman-Markey Bill, H.R. 2454] is delayed by the free allocation of permits and generous carbon offsets. By 2030, as emission reduction targets tighten and other W/M provisions phase out, Virginia jobs decline by 41,400 under the low cost case and by 56,400 under the high cost case.&#8221;</p></blockquote>

<p>Has Creigh Deeds flip-flopped on the Cap and Trade program or is he just saying he is against it for votes? Yes on both counts. By running this ad, it is clear that Creigh Deeds is contradicting himself yet again like he did on taxes.</p>
<p>In the last debate between the candidates, Creigh Deeds said to o Judy Woodruff and to the television audience:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;I have not proposed a billion dollars in tax increases&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>A little while later Creigh Deeds exposed himself and his &#8216;plan&#8217; to raise $1 billion in &#8216;new revenue&#8217;:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;The day after I&#8217;m elected governor, I&#8217;m gonna start assembling a bipartisan commission,&#8221; Deeds said. &#8220;If that commission comes forward with a plan to raise new revenue (taxes) &#8230; I will sign it.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>As you may recall, after the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce debate, Creigh Deeds said the following:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;We have a need that exceeds a billion dollars a year. We have to come up with a billion dollars a year of new money. And to arrive at that, everything is on the table.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Exactly who is misrepresenting the truth Mr. Deeds??</p>

<p>Hyundai&#8217;s South-Korean-market ad agency has been hard at work cooking up commercials for its latest offering: the 2010 Sonata. Apparently there were no current references that could describe this latest sedan, so they went back a few hundred years for help &#8212; Renaissance artists, Italian musical terminology, and complementary philosophies are used to tell the story. The &#8220;Art of Technology&#8221; is no simple tale, you see.</p>
