Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir – The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir will appear on “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, Dec. 22nd, performing Christmas songs and songs from Declare Your Name (for the show and as “bumpers”) throughout the morning.

Don Poythress & Jared Anderson – Don and Jared will appear on TBN’s “1 Music Village” during a special Christmas-focused show that includes each singing songs from their individual albums and from Worship & Adore. (We’re awaiting confirmation of the air date and time.)

Kari Jobe – Kari will appear on Daystar TV. The tentative dates are Dec. 24, 25, 28 and 29 @ 6am, 3:30pm, 7:30pm and 1am CST. (Check local listings.) Will try to confirm again before we’re all out for the break.

For those of you who might be interested, the video of today’s episode of Ask the Pastor is now online.  Ask the Pastor is a local show with area pastors who answer questions from callers in a panel format.

Paul McCartney’s new live CD/DVD, Good Evening New York City, was released on November 17. It features performances recorded at New York’s Citi Field on July 17, 18 and 21, 2009. McCartney’s shows were the first concerts ever held at the new Citi Field, which replaces Shea Stadium.

If you want to feel like you’re really at a live show watching the legendary ex-Beatle do what he does best, make sure you definitely watch the Good Evening New York City DVD first, BEFORE you listen to the CDs. On the DVD, you get to hear Paul tell a few stories in-between songs, like his experience hearing Jimi Hendrix play “Sgt. Pepper” only two days after it was released back in 1967. You also get to hear how Paul came up with the melody to “Blackbird.”

And most striking to this longtime Beatles fan was when McCartney sings “Here Today”, his tribute to the late John Lennon, and gets extremely choked up during the performance. As many times as I’ve seen Paul in concert or watched previous live performances, I can’t recall ever seeing him get this emotional during this touching song. “As you can tell, sometimes that song catches me out,” Paul explains to the audience afterwards.

But, warning, you don’t necessarily get the same experience on the live McCartney CDs. To me, the purpose of a live concert recording is to be able to re-live over and over the magic that was created that one special night. However, it seems like Paul doesn’t see it that way. On the CDs, all his comments in-between songs have been deleted. At the beginning, he declares, “Good Evening New York City,” and that’s the extent of his spoken words throughout the recording, except when he shouts out “Billy Joel” after their duet on “I Saw Her Standing There.”. This is not the first time he’s done this on a live CD. For the 2002 release of Back in the US, Paul did the same thing and deleted all his comments in-between songs on the live CD.

Not only that, but there are instances where a different vocal recording appears on the CD compared to the one that was used on the DVD. For example, the vocal used on the DVD for “Here Today”, in which I just mentioned that McCartney gets noticeably choked up, is a different performance on the CD where there is no crack in Paul’s voice whatsoever. As a result, while the live CDs are a great performance of McCartney’s solo and Beatles hits, they sound way too smooth and polished to offer the true, authentic live concert experience.

And in the end… the DVD (not the CDs) really recreates the magic of seeing Paul McCartney in concert. At the age of 67, he still puts on a great live show. There’s no mistaking that the man loves what he does. My recommendation is that you get the deluxe edition of the set (available exclusively at Best Buy) which also includes a second DVD featuring Paul’s news-making performance from July 2009 on top of the Late Show with David Letterman’s marquee in Manhattan.

TV alert: A Paul McCartney Thanksgiving special will air on ABC at 10 pm on November 26 featuring excerpts from “Good Evening New York City” as well as original footage from The Beatles Shea Stadium concert.

People sometimes ask me why I “bother” with Twitter.  They don’t understand its application in everyday life and think of Twitter as another unnecessary distraction.  So here are a few reasons I love Twitter:  Nine Inch Nails last show ever, Thom Yorke “secret” show at The Echoplex, Imogen Heap TweetUp, David Gray last-minute show at Hotel Cafe, and Brett Dennen intimate performance at Library Alehouse.

As with all the amazing music experiences noted above, I found out about Brett Dennen’s performance at Library Alehouse via Twitter.   Dennen announced this show with a Tweet, at 1:43pm today.  I re-read the Tweet a few times because Library Alehouse is not a music venue (not that all shows must take place in a proper venue, but. . .).  Library Alehouse is one of my favorite pubs slash restaurants in Santa Monica.  They have an amazing selection of beer on tap, including a few that are hard to find elsewhere  (I only know this because I’ve been there with some guys who know this).  They also have a great year-round outdoor seating area in the back (I know this because that’s where I like to sit).

So when Brett Dennen Tweeted that he was going to be performing at Library Alehouse for a Carson Daly taping, I thought perhaps he had one too many glasses of really good beer. Yet the Tweet was very specific and Library Alehouse was on the way home (as “on the way” as anything is in LA), so I decided to stop by.  Good thing I did because Dennen was entirely sober and indeed performing at Library Alehouse tonight.

I first became aware of Brett Dennen several years ago (2004-ish), at The Hotel Cafe.  Marko, who co-owns and books the venue, told me I had to come down and “check out this guy Brett Dennen.”  I remember it was a late show. . .  No, actually. . . Whoever had played before Dennen started late (or ran over time) which pushed Dennen’s set back.  It was approximately 11:43pm on a weeknight, after a very long day, and with an early morning ahead of me.  If anybody else told me I needed to be out that night, I would have ignored them.  But when Marko tells me I need to see someone, I show up.

Consistently, 0n any given night, The Hotel Cafe has a solid line-up.  It’s the kind of place you can go, even if you don’t recognize the names of the artists playing, and be guaranteed to hear some good music.  In fact, I often go there “on the way home” because I’m certain to hear something I like.  Marko doesn’t call me every time an amazing musician is playing at Hotel Cafe (if he did, he’d be calling me four times a day).  So when he does say, “you’ve gotta come check this out,” I don’t question it; I just show up.

In the case of Brett Dennen, that meant I was one of approximately 8 people in the room when he performed what are now some of his most requested songs.  He was, without a doubt, phenomenal which left me thanking Marko profusely and questioning where everyone else was.  It also reminded me of a time when I was one of only 5 people seeing Jack Johnson perform at The Mint several years prior to that.  In both instances I wondered how long it would take for people to catch on.  And in both instances the answer was:  not very long at all.

The next time I saw Dennen perform at Hotel Cafe the room was packed.  The time after that it was sold out.  After playing a few sold-out shows at Hotel Cafe, Dennen graduated to larger venues, but he’d often come back to Hotel Cafe and play special shows.  The last time I saw Dennen perform at Hotel Cafe, not only was it sold-out, but people hovered outside the window on Hollywood Boulevard, with their ears pressed against the glass, straining to hear as much of the show as possible. Most recently I watched (or rather, danced) as Dennen performed to thousands of fans at Rothbury Festival.

So that’s Brett Dennen – nobody knew about him, then everybody knew about him, and now those who know him on Twitter are the ones who knew to show up for his Carson Daly taping this afternoon.  And just like old times, we were among the few (40 people) who got to experience this show.

Dennen began by playing a brand new song, “Dancing At The Funeral.”  It’s not as morbid as the title may lead you to believe.  “Dancing At The Funeral” is a song about celebrating life, an important message to share.  Next, at the request of the audience, he  played “Desert Sunrise,” a song off his debut album.  Dennen spoke about his fond memories of the Bay Area and how he weaved a break-up storyline into the song prior to playing “San Francisco.”  “It’s really a love song,” Dennen said.  “I love that city.”

Next, he told a story about recording “Heaven” with Natalie Merchant.  Like several artists, Dennen likened the song to a child.  But unlike other artists, Dennen’s “child” had a different upbringing.  Hopefully they leave that story in the show so you can hear it for yourself (I’d only f*ck it up if I tried to repeat it).  Dennen finished the set with “It Could Make You Cry,” another ironically happy tune.

And with that, the show slash taping ended, and some really good beer was the substitute for an encore.

I didn’t find out when the show is going to air, so your best bet is to follow Carson Daly on Twitter.

Day 7:
Today we left Odawara about 10:30am and headed to Tokyo for the long day ahead of us. Our first stop was at a TV station (Samurai TV) that Rumina and Takanori Gomi both were promoting there up coming fights for Vale Tudo Japan. Once we finished the show it was time for lunch. We walked around this famous strip in Tokyo which by the way was flooded with forieners (Thed 1st ive seen since coming to Japan) until we found this Soba noodle place Rumina wanted to eat at. Was delicous. After lunch we had a long time to kill until our training session at the famous “Ceasars Shoot Boxing Gym” so it was time for more walking and site seeing. We walked, walked and walked some more until we finally had to train!

Time to train. We did about an hour of shadow boxing and bag work and then it was time to spar. The gym had a fighter who was the number 2 ranked shooto boxing fighter in the world who had a fight coming up against a south paw. My luck! im a southpaw!!. Him and I had a great hard sparring session. It was awesome. Rumina followed directly after my sparring session with a session of his own with another fighter. After Rumina was finshed I was back in the ring for a few more rounds of mits and then 2 rounds of bag work before calling it a night. Man I was exhusted.

After leaving Ceasars we went for Sushi at this awesome little sushi bar in downtown Tokyo. Was delicious. After dinner it was time to make the drive back to Odawara. Man I am run down. As im writing the sparring is starting to really set in. I feel like a car accident.

Time for bed and running in the morning!

Hey everyone! Hope you had an awesome weekend!!! I know I did! I did UCLA on Saturday morning before training a couple awesome clients:) I’m up to doing almost 700 yards of lunges now (100 are lateral lunges, 50/side), and 12 stadium sprints! It felt really good, even though it was boiling out there.

On Sunday I saw a client, went to the beach, and cooked dinner for my family. Since I was on the run pretty much all weekend, it was up to me to plan my meals, and make sure I was prepared with food all day long.  I prefer eating whole, organic foods if and when possible, but sometimes a girl, or guy, just needs a shake to keep the engine running when he/she is on the run! I was drinking muscle milk a lot for a while, and still love it when in a pinch, however, it can get expensive buying 1 per day. A more cost effective and a less preservative and caloric option, is buying your own supply of a good, quality whey isolate protein powder.

Recently I went to Power Zone, in West Hollywood, and purchased MRM’s ISO-BOLIC protein powder. It’s 100% whey isolate, hormone free, anti-biotic free, aspartame free, and BSE free. I prefer the chocolate flavor. It’s great on the run, because you can just put as many scoops, as servings you need throughout the day, into a tuppeware thermos, mix with water, and drink a serving size at a time in between meals (15gms for girls is a serving size). I usually drink about 2 servings per day, typically for my 2nd and 3rd meal since I am training clients and it’s easy.

I have a photo shoot in 2 weeks, so I’m doing an extra clean diet, cutting out all sugars, and taking out my 1 serving of brown rice, and adding green veggies instead. I have been extra busy lately, so having my own protein powder that I can just throw in a plastic mug and mix to drink when time to eat, is very convenient. Also, me using a more pure form of protein, as well as eating less sugars and carbs, will be a great way to lean out just a bit more, to be looking hot for the photo shoot! I don’t recommend eating like this always, as it’s good to have a very balanced diet, including lots of fruits and colored veggies. These are some of the types of sugars that are good to have in your diet.

So remember, when you are an On the Run person, or are having a busy week, it helps if you keep protein powder on hand. You will be way more likely to get in nutrients every 2-3 hours to keep your metabolism burning fat and your body building muscle!

By now everyone I’ve even known has seen my San Francisco TV segment.  I had great feedback and help from so many people!  I’m really looking forward to the next one.

But now that things are back to normal, I’m kind of jonesing for that “TV High.”  If you’re an actor or host or have ever been in front of an audience and LIKED it, you understand what I mean.  It’s kind of like skiing a double-black diamond or catching a fly ball at Yankee Stadium (or whatever stadium you grew up with).  The moment is fabulous and your heart is beating out of your chest and you’re so excited you can’t bear it!

And then it’s gone.  Over.

Until the next time.  I guess it’s healthier than heroin or cocaine, but it’s just as addicting.  I”m still smiling about it and am contacting people and getting a reel together to try to get other appearances, but it will never be like my first one.

From what I hear, it only gets better.  Kind of reminds me of something else that gets your heart racing and your body so excited you can’t bear it….
