Five Favorite Furry Sidekicks

Luna | Sailor Moon
Okay, confession time, it’s been far too long since I last watched Sailor Moon (clearly time for a rewatch), but that being said, I always remember what an amazing sidekick Luna is. As the voice of reason.

Digby | Pushing Daisies
The story between Digby and Ned was heart-crushing. How sad is it not to be able to pet your own dog? Granted, he’s living now, but you can’t ever touch him. Still, Digby remained loyal to Ned.

Trailer | Warehouse 13
For a character that just arrived, he feels like he’s been part of the family for a long time. To the point that after last seasons finale, the fandom blew up with “WHAT HAPPENED TO TRAILER?” also, this dog has a twitter… just saying.

Hedwig | Harry Potter
Of all sidekicks, Hedwig was the most amazing. If her storyline in book 7 didn’t make your heart break and your eyes water, I don’t know that we can be friends anymore.

Big Guy | Sanctuary
Okay, so this one is kind of cheating. Since he’s bigfoot. But he’s also exceptionally furry, so that counts right? As Helen’s right hand man, Biggy is a key part of the Sanctuary team.

Warehouse 13: Season 1, Episode 6 | Burnout

SUMMARY
While investigating the site of a presumed gas explosion, Pete and Myka are shocked to discover the body of another Warehouse agent. Things get even more complicated when the item they’re hunting attaches itself to Pete’s spine. It causes him to channel dangerous amounts of electricity and makes him very, very angry and dangerous.

What I always loved about this episode is that it shows us what happens to Warehouse agents after they decide to leave the Warehouse. We meet Rebecca St. Clair, who has some very strong opinions on the Warehouse and how it treats it’s employees. And more importantly, how it’s employees, handle living on the outside world.

Pete gets to play hero (sort of) in this episode. They may only be partners for a little while and as much as they get on each others nerves and ruffle each others feathers, Pete’s insistence of Myka staying out of the way and getting out of town shows us how much he cares for his partner.

In turn, Myka gets a little lesson from Rebecca about not letting the Warehouse be her whole life. A reminder that there is things out side of work, and that it’s okay to move on.

Back at the Warehouse, Claudia drags Artie kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Which is always entertaining.

THINGS TO REMEMBER
Claudia really enjoys revamping Warehouse items. This is sometimes good, and sometimes… not so good.
Rebecca and Jack’s relationship is one to keep in mind for future episodes.

Warehouse 13: Season 1, Episode 5 | Elements

SUMMARY
The Warehouse team pursues an artifact collector who is trying to gather together sculptures of the four elements thinking they will enable him to find the secret to obtaining god-like powers.

While Artie stalls to figure out what to do with Claudia, we get to see a bit of their relationship. It started last episode, and with the remainder of this episode we see their father/daughter-like relationship grow and grow.

Of all the artifacts that we’ve seen this one definitely has the most magic-like qualities to it. Allowing one to embody the elements in definitely an artifact that could come in handy. Pete and Myka’s partnership shines more and more with each episode. In this one, we see that they really do know more about each other than they would like to admit.

In addition to all this great character stuff, we get to see the amazing guest star, Joe Flanigan (of Stargate: Atlantis). When he first popped on screen, I was sure he was the culprit, it’s nice to sometimes be surprised.

Warehouse 13: Season 1, Episode 4 | Claudia

SUMMARY
Artie is kidnapped by a woman who blames him for the death of her brother.

This is the episode that I have been waiting for. The introduction for Claudia is one of the greatest mid-season introductions I’ve seen for a character in a long time. The fact that after I got to know her, she became my spirit animal.

Her introduction to the Warehouse is one that is unique. You don’t really meet anyone in this series that knows about the Warehouse without really “knowing” about the Warehouse. The Warehouse is the reason she is the way that she is. If it weren’t for Joshua disappearing, she wouldn’t have become as kick-ass as she is now.

What really stands out is the nearly instant relationship she and Artie have. He quickly becomes incredibly protective of her while still pretending that he has no need for her.

While Artie is trying to save Joshua (and in turn, Claudia), Pete and Myka team up with Mrs. Fredrick to find Artie and track him down. Mrs. Fredrick always gets underestimated. We all know she gives us serious goosebumps, but for the most part she tends to be a come and go character. Usually without warning. This episode we get to see her a bit more, and see how she interacts with the agents. And we quickly realize, why Artie is the liason.

Warehouse 13: Season 1, Episode Three | Magnetism

SUMMARY
Pete and Myka are sent to investigate a small town where the inhabitants’ minds are being altered making them act as they please. Meanwhile, Artie is confused by the energy flows going on in the warehouse and he seeks help from Leena who may know more about what is going on.

I always forget how much I love this episode until I watch it. As Artie continues to hunt down his illusive hacker, Pete and Myka are sent to Unionville where where people are acting a little out of character. Like a violin prodigy smashing his beloved instrument, or a recovering alcoholic almost slipping up. Not to worry though, Pete and Myka are on the case.

One of the best things about this episode is the fact that we get to see a lot more of the bickering Pete/Myka relationship. This was one of those episodes that made me question whether I shipped them platonically or romantically. While they have amazing chemistry as friends, they also have that great bickering-I-can’t-stand-you kind of personalities that make for a great romantic pairing (see: Castle/Beckett, Booth/Brennan, and basically any other romance on TV).

When Myka becomes effected and can’t seem to keep herself from beating Pete up, it’s one of the few times that we get to see Myka a bit vulnerable. It’s also one of the great times we get to see Pete step up and take charge.

Pete: You know, if you were gonna ask me how I would die, I would say that being beaten to death by my partner would be really low on the list.

Pete: What am I looking for?
Artie: Anything that might cause an electrical or chemical imbalance in the brain.
Pete: Oh, well, so a brain imblancer. That’s easy. It’s probably right next to his time travel machine.

ARTIFACT
A chair that once belonged to James Braid. A doctor and pioneer in the art of hypnotherapy. Causing those who sat in the chair to lose their inhibitions.

Warehouse 13: Season 1, Episode 2 | Resonance

Written by: D. Brent Mote & Jane Espenson.

SUMMARY
Pete and Myka are sent to Chicago to investigate a series of odd bank robberies. During their investigation, they have a run-in with Bonnie Belski, a persistent FBI agent looking for a logical explanation for the happenings. It seems the bank robbers are using a device that creates a sound resonance so severe, it sort of hypnotizes all who hear it and leaves them in a state of euphoria for minutes after. It’s up to Myka and Pete to figure out where the robbers will strike next and retrieve whatever bizarre object they are employing. Meanwhile, Artie examines a possible security breach back at the warehouse.

Coming off a two hour pilot episode, this was a good ice breaker into how the show is really going to go. In this we get a bit of foreshadowing, and a lot of interactions with the agents outside the warehouse.

Plus, for all you Battlestar Galactica fans, seeing the amazing Tricia Helfer wasn’t too bad.

Though this time the artifact was only relevant to Warehouse 13, it did show that they can create an artifact with just as much history, as an already historical artifact. And convince y0u, that might actually have some real time history to it.

Even with the agents outside of the warehouse, we still got to see a bit of the innerworkings of the warehouse. As Artie fusses over the monitors glitching and lights flickering. And the ever ominous “Knock, Knock”. When he goes to Dickenson’s office to try and get to the bottom of the hacks into his system, we get a glimpse at Angry!Artie. As someone who loves this character, I would never want to get on his bad side.

FAVORITE QUOTES

Myka: You know how when you sing in the shower, and it bounces off the tiles, and you sound spectacular.
Artie: No, I never sound spectacular.

ARTIFACT
Euphoria Record: a vinyl record, recorded by composer Eric Marsden. The tonality of the music, combined with the right resonance, causes intense feelings of joy and euphoria in the listener, so extreme that they are briefly incapacitated. The effects can be blocked with headphones or earplugs.

THINGS TO REMEMBER

Warehouse 13: Season 1, Episode 1 | Pilot

SUMMARY
After saving the life of the President in Washington D.C., a pair of U.S Secret Service agents are whisked away to a covert location in South Dakota that houses supernatural objects that the Regents, an Authority above and outside any government, have collected over the centuries. Their new assignment: retrieve any lost objects and investigate reports of new ones.

Meet Agents Pete Lattimer and Myka Bering. Agents pulled from their prestigious job in the Secret Service, to enter a world of endless wonder. At least, that’s what the creepy lady with the beehive told them.

When they fly out to podunk South Dakota, things aren’t exactly what they expected, they meet hermit turned leader Arthur Nielsen, or Artie, and get a crash course in the inner-workings of the Warehouse.

As pilots go, this was a pretty great one. They introduce the characters just enough to make you aware of how they work, but not so much that it doesn’t leave room for more . We get a brief introduction to the Warehouse, but quickly realize that this is going to be a place that continues to surprise us.

So here are a few quick things we learned from the pilot episode:
- Pete gets these “vibes” about people and things. Usually, they’re bad.
- Myka has gone through some terrible times in the past few months with her job, making her incredibly irritable.
- Mrs. Fredric has this way of being super creepy without actually doing anything.
- The warehouse is a place where artifacts with exceptional powers come to live to keep the public safe.
- Wishing for things in the warehouse may result in a ferret.

Artifact:
A jewel that belonged to Lucrezia Borgia. Causing her murderous and incestuous spirit is embodied in her jeweled comb, which possesses the person wearing it.

Introducing a new weekly post, focusing on a re-watch of one of my all time favorite shows Warehouse 13. I’m pretty sure I’ve done a terrible job at hiding my total adoration for this show. Considering that in basically every Fantastic Five Friday, Warehouse 13 is mentioned. It’s worse than my love of Doctor Who.

Which is saying something.

In one of my first ever posts on this site, I expressed a few reasons why you should watch this show.

Those reasons are still sound. As this show continues, it just gets better and better. The attachment to the characters gets deeper, the storylines more intricate, the feelings stronger. With every episode, I’m falling in love with this show more and more.

Veronica Mars
I don’t know what it is about this show. But I always end up marathoning it when I’m crafting. I don’t know why, it just happens.

I usually start with the Jess/Rory episodes, then move to the Luke/Lorelai episodes.

Five Episodes That Made Me Want to Throw My TV Out the Window

It’s no secret that I get really emotionally involved in my TV shows. There have been a few episodes that made me just want to pick up my TV and throw it out the window.

(in no particular order)

Doctor Who: Journey’s End
I’ve talked about this episode a lot. I can’t watch it without having a giant box of tissues next to me.

Warehouse 13: Emily Lake/Stand
Again, an episode that makes me feel all of the feelings. If they don’t fix things next season, I’m going to be severely upset.

Castle: To Love and Die in LA
THE HOTEL SCENE!!!!! Argh!!!!! (I hope everyone knows what scene I’m talking about)

Fringe: Letters of Transit
Fringe has a habit of screwing with my mind. This episode ended and I just stared at my screen completely dumbfounded. I like to think that eventually I’ll find out all the answers for this show. But this episode threw me through a loop.

HIMYM: Tick, Tick, Tick
This episode broke my Barney/Robin heart. I just wanted to shove them together and make them kiss.

Five Characters I’ve Become Too Attached Too (TV & Movies)

This idea came from FireFerrets and Meg. I can’t think of a topic more suited for me. *gets too emotionally involved in her tv shows*

It was definetly more difficult to narrow down than I thought it would be.

Claudia Donovan | Warehouse 13
LOOK AT HER FACE!!!! *ahem* Claudia always has the most amazing and emotional journey in Warehouse 13. The fact that she’s my spirit animal, makes all of my feelings about her that much worse. This past season, Claudia has been through a lot and they just keep throwing stuff at her. I’m really interested to see what they do with her next season. I hope she doesn’t go all Dark!Willow (Buffy reference anyone?) and crazy again.

Jack Hodgins | Bones
First, I thought it would be Booth, then I thought about it a little bit more and remembered “The Aliens in a Spaceship” episode. The first Gravedigger episode, and still one of my favorite from the series. This is when Jack went from being another one of the squints to someone that invoked an emotional response from me when I saw him afterward.

Robin Scherbatsky | How I Met Your Mother
My dearest Robin, please don’t give up just yet on Barney. Every time I see a new episode and Barney gets closer and closer to someone who is NOT Robin, my heart breaks for her. It actually hurts when I see her sitting there alone in the bar, it physically makes me ache. I just want her to be happy. I want her to go on the adventures that she wanted to go on, and I want her to be with Barney and have adorable and incredibly talented babies (which I realize won’t happen, but oh well).

Nathan Wuornos | Haven
Again, with people that have faces that give me emotions. I’m kind of in love with this man. Nathan and his trouble have a lot to handle. His relationship with Audrey is another one of those relationships that I flail about all the time. Nathan is such an important part in reasoning for the troubles and he doesn’t even know it. He thinks he’s just another troubled person. But he’s so much more. He just needs to realize it.

Donna Noble | Doctor Who
I feel like the only explaination for me picking Donna is this: Journey’s End.

FIVE TELEVISION CHARACTERS I WOULD TRADE LIVES WITH

5. Juliet O’Hara | Psych
Jules is one of those characters that, when you look at her, you assume she’s not going to be as awesome as she is. She’s accepting of Shawn’s interesting “talent,” deals with Lassiter being crazy and isn’t afraid to stand up for things that she’s passionate about. Plus, she and Shawn have excellent chemistry!

4. Piper Halliwell | Charmed
Piper was one of the first (not animated) characters I ever wanted to be when I grew up. She was smart, didn’t take crap from anyone, and still remained very down to earth and real. She was always the character that I identified with the most (and still do when I have a rewatch). On top of all her amazing attributes, add her power to freeze/blow up things, and the fact that the Piper/Leo romance was one of my first television ships ever… I would trade lives with Piper in a heartbeat.

3. Veronica Mars | Veronica Mars
Oh Veronica, aside from having severe commitment issues and always going for the wrong guy, I admire your spunk and can-do attitude. If you ever watch Veronica Mars you’ll notice that because of how much I’ve watched this series, I tend to speak like she does. Veronica is one of those characters that you would want to be friends with, but at the same time, be afraid of her awesomeness.

2. Donna Noble | Doctor Who
Being new to the Whoniverse, Donna quickly became one of my favorite characters after her guest appearance in the Doctor Who holiday episode. When they brought her back in season four, she endeared herself to me because she was the first compainion for the Doctor that had no romantic feelings for him. All she wanted was adventure. She was also the first of the companions that wasn’t afraid to tell the Doctor when he was being an idiot (which, let’s face it, is often). If that meant that I had to forget the Doctor to go on the adventure, I’d still do it. I’d still switch lives with Donna easily.

1. Claudia Donovan | Warehouse 13
Raise your hand if you’re surprised by this. No one? If there was ever a character that I would want to be more than anyone, it would be Claudia Donovan. She has an awesome job and team, and gets to do all the nerdy things that I love to do. I tend to like the snarky and sarcastic (snarcastic?) characters, ones that know when to stand up for themselves and how to make an awkward situation less awkward (though it doesn’t always work). Claudia is no different. On top of being snarcastic, she’s also a techie and a quotes a lot of pop culture things (sound like someone you know?). Two years ago, I would have told you that summer tv was the WORST. I always ended up doing multiple rewatches of Gilmore Girls or Veronica Mars, but now, with the help of cable, I’ve discovered that summer TV isn’t as bad as it used to be.

Tonight marks the premiere of one new show that looks promising, and the return of two of my favorite shows. All three, on SyFy.

First on the line up is Eureka. With last year’s reboot of the series, Eureka has had a pretty different feel. Though as they say in Eureka “The more things change, the more they stay the same”. This season, I’m hoping for some zany fun stuff as usual, but I really want to see more of Zane. He was so under used in the second and third season, then in the fourth season, he was finally becoming more involved in the main cast. Plus, as Niall Matter says in this interview, Zane is the only one in the main cast who didn’t go back in time. He the one who’s relationships with everyone has changed the most. While I loved his relationships with the cast the first few seasons, this will be so much better!

Second, Warehouse 13. I’ve clearly expressed my love for this show already. This season is no exception. With new addition Aaron Ashmore (Smallville) who plays new recruit Steve Jinks, to the Warehouse because of his unique skill. He can tell when people are lying. Adding this into the the already overflowing pot of crazy, should be an interesting turn in the series. Obviously, I want Myka back, but I understand why she left. She’s unsure of herself. I really hope they bring her back, and have her return to the kick ass agent she is.

Lastly, tonight marks the series premiere of Alphas. There has been a lot of speculation about this show. Some people are comparing it to Heroes, while others have a hard time thinking that it won’t be just another show about people with super powers. I, personally, have a little hope for it. As far as I can tell, the cast is superb. Admittedly, the main reason I’m tuning into this show is because of the fantastic Ryan Cartwright (Mr. Nigel-Murray from Bones). Though, when it comes to superheroes and mutants, the creator of the series is pretty well versed. Check out this great inside look at Alphas with TV Line.

Tonight, should be a fantastic night of artifact finding, inappropriate button pushing, and super human abilities. So much awesome for one night.

Here is where I state my plea for all to watch this amazing show known as Warehouse 13.

5 Reasons You Should be Watching Warehouse 13,

If You’re Not Already.

1: It Has Something for Everyone.

Are you a history buff? Do you prefer action shows? What about techie shows? Warehouse 13 has something for everyone. The way that they play with historical events, fairy tales and fables to create artifacts that have significant powers, is incredible. These storylines are fantastic. Although it’s not as action packed as other shows can be, when you see action it’s incredibly well scripted, acted and filmed. The production team on this show knows how to grab your attention and keep it. What they may lack in high action, they more than make up for with relationships that pull you in. If your flavor is romance, you’ll be satisfied with the taste that this show offers. If you looking more for a familial bond, then look no further than the agents that work for this secret warehouse.

2: Joanne Kelly and Eddie McClintock’s Chemistry.

For me, Eddie McClintock will always be the person who got between Booth and Brennan in season 2 of Bones, but I adore him in Warehouse 13. He and Joanne Kelly have fantastic chemistry on screen, to the point that I’m not sure if I ship their relationship romantically or platonically. They have this kind of banter that reminds me a lot of two siblings fighting, but there’s also an underlying admiration for each other that almost mirrors Sam and Jack from Stargate SG-1.

3: The Cast In General.

Aside from Eddie and Joanne, the rest of this cast is just top notch. Saul Rubinek, never fails to make me laugh during the episode. His comedic timing is perfection. Next we have the fantastic CCH Pounder, who can manage to make you nervous with just one look. She’s not a particularly menacing person, but something about the way that she plays Mrs. Fredrick, just shows you that you don’t want to be on the bad side of her character. Genelle Williams, though very much the maternal character of the show, manages to prove that her character does do more than just clean the inn and make the food. Lastly (but most definitely not least), Allison Scagliotti, who has quickly become one of my new favorite actresses. She’s pretty much the girl on the show that you wish could be your best friend, and Allison’s comedic ability grows with every episode.

4: Relationships

I immediately describe the characters of Warehouse 13 as a family. You have Pete and Myka who act like bickering siblings. Claudia, as the kid sister who just wants to be part of the club. Artie, the grumpy dad who wishes the kids would just listen to him, because then things would be much easier. Pete and Artie have a relationship that walks the line between admiration and annoyance. Admiration for their duties and the end result when they work together, annoyance for the in between time when it’s like pulling teeth to get Pete to listen. Artie’s relationship with Myka and Claudia mirror each other in a lot of ways. To both of them he’s kind of the father figure, he may not always do the right thing, they may not always listen or agree, but in the end, they come together to get everything on the path it’s supposed to be. Artie’s relationship with Claudia is a little deeper, as he is more protective of her than he knows he should be. Claudia looks up to Myka in so many ways. Constantly feeling like she’s not one of the team, until Myka tells her that everyone brings something different to the table, for Claudia, it’s her youth, spunk, and overall geekiness. Pete and Claudia’s relationship, is more similar to siblings than anyone else, he teases her, beats her video games, they make jokes and even have a special handshake. All in all this family is just like any family you’d see on the street. They bicker, they love, they annoy each other to no end, just like a normal family…. with the exception that they hunt down artifacts that are wrecking havoc on the world.

5: Building Stories Off of Stories.

With this amazing cast and constant flow of fantastic guest stars, there had to be incredible stories to go along with it. I don’t know any other show that could have managed to pull off a story line that involved not only H.G. Wells’ Time Machine, but also an artifact that inspired Cinderella, all in the same episode. Where else could you find Edgar Allen Poe’s pen, where anything you write with it comes to reality? Or think to have Sylvia Plath’s Typewriter that renders the person in its proximity to lose their will to live. I mean really? The storylines can range from Lizzie Borden and invisible men, to shared bodies and superheroes, alternate dimensions, folklore, and I could go on. Every episode leaves you wanting more, and leaves you thinking that it just can’t get more awesome, then, the next week, it does.

“I give it an 8.5. Next time you have to stick the landing.”

BONUS: The Beyond Amazing Guest Stars.

In addition to all the reasons listed up there, they have fantastic guest stars. Now this might just be a me thing. I love when people I know from other TV shows and movies guest star on my newer favorite shows. Warehouse 13 is no exception. Neil Grayston (Fargo from Eureka) doing a crossover episode from Eureka. Plus, Jaime Murray (Spartacus), Tia Carrere (Wayne’s World), Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica), Joe Flanigan (Stargate: Atlantis), Niall Matter (Eureka), Erica Cerra (Eureka), David Anders (Alias), and MANY more. My personal favorite, Jewel Staite and Sean Maher (Kaylee and Simon from Firefly) guest starred in an episode that will make any Kaylee/Simon shipper giggle in happiness.
