A well deserved win for the talented 16 year old.  We have all sang into hairbrushes in our rooms while dreaming of being a singing success  Her dreams became a reality and I cannot wait to see what is in store for her.

I mean wow…Magna Carta Holy Fail! The only thing that saved it was the incredible production throughout.

Still, I’m not really excited for another post 100th retirement Jay-Z album, but maybe it’s me.

For those of you unfamiliar with AMC’s Mad Men (or if you only watch on DVD/Netflix) allow me to give a bit of backstory. The previouslies for Mad Men are notorious for not giving anything away. Rather than revealing crucial plot points, previews will be a nonsensical string of one liners, often unrelated to one another or the overall plot as a whole. Moments that seem meaningful in the previews will be unimportant aspects within the context of the episode.

This is the episode that focuses on the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and the reactions of the various characters.

This episode is primarily a drug trip. Literally.

So here’s our game. Smash and I watch the new episode of Mad Men, then immediately watch the previous week’s preview to see how nonsensical and random the previews were.

I’d say try it next week, but this week the show didn’t even bother with previews. It simply showed a string of scenes from previous episodes.

It seemed to be a running joke that each of these characters would go around indiscriminately having sex with random partners with no apparent consequences.  To them, sex was basically a hobby, and I was so young that I didn’t think anything of it.  It was all just normal to me.  I watched the episodes of these classic shows over and over again without ever questioning them.

It’s no wonder that for years I had such a mistaken impression of sex.  Sexual education classes don’t mean much when your mind has already been brainwashed by evil lies.

Probably the only thing that stopped me from outright imitating such irresponsible behavior was my former belief in religion (Christianity) and my own social awkwardness.  But if beautiful, drunk girls had thrown themselves at me at parties then I might be dealing with complications in my life right now.

– Interestingly enough, “Who’s The Boss?” is currently being rerun on a kids channel (The Hub) of all things.  I wonder if they cut out all the gross comments I remember Mona making.  Somehow I doubt it. –

I just look back in amazement at things I used to believe, and I wonder why the world is so wrong.

The Voice finale was full of performance after performance after performance. From Christina Aguilera and Pitbull to an iconic performance by Cher, we almost forgot that someone had to go home. So, did one of birthday boy Blake Shelton‘s contestants win to make it a three-peat? Or did Usher‘s star rise to the top?

‘The Voice’ Results

It all came down to Team Usher V. Team Blake. Michelle Chamuel put on three rockin’ performances on the 17th; the Swon Brothers hit every note of their falsetto; and Danielle Bradbery‘s matchup with Blake was ultimate perfection.

Unfortunately, there could only be one winner.

After Swon Borthers landed in third, it all came down to Michelle v. Danielle — Usher v. Blake.

And the winner is … DANIELLE BRADBERY! At 16, she’s the youngest in the competition and she won it all!

And, that means Blake won the three-peat — on his birthday. Talk about a good birthday gift.

Christina Aguilera Returns For ‘The Voice’ Finale

It was quite the party on the finale of The Voice. Not only was it Blake’s birthday, so he was enjoying his “special latte,” of course — but it also was full of A-listers!

Voice alum Christina Aguilera returned to perform “Feel This Moment” with Pitbull; Florida Georgia Line and Nelly, who paired up for an entertaining performance of “Cruise;” and Bruno Mars, who hit the stage with a pre-recorded performance of “Treasure.”

Hunter Hayes took the stage for a performance of “I Want Crazy” with finalist Danielle. Later, Michelle was joined by One Republic to sing “Counting Stars.” Country duo the Swon Brothers were joined by the legendary Bob Seger.

Then, for the first time in over ten years, Cher hit the stage and debuted her new hit, “Women’s World.” This will also be the name of her new album to be released on September 24 — it will be her first album in 12 years.

Final 3 Brings Back Old Faces

The final three weren’t ready for a last performance — and they didn’t want to do it alone, so each finalist chose some of their favorite contestants from the season to join them on stage.

The Swon Brothers brought back Amber Carrington, Justin Rivers and Holly Tucker for “Stars Tonight.”

Danielle’s bring back performance included Amber, Caroline Glazer and Sarah Simmons for “All American Girl.”

Michelle brought back Josiah Hawley, Vedo, and Cathia to reunite Team Usher, singing “We Can Work It Out.”

Old contestants Josiah, Vedo, Kris Thomas and Garrett Gardner performed of “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg.”  Even Holly made a appearance, showing off her saxophone skills! Then Judith Hill, Karina Iglesias, Sasha Allen and Cathia returned for “My Lovin.”

Personally, I like advice that comes in the form of a helpful life tip. I’m not a fan of the cliche advice such as “everything happens for a reason”, “when life gives you lemons make lemonade”, “always smile”, and you get the idea. I like advice that I’ll use in life. Advice that is something I’ll take to heart.

The best advice I’ve ever gotten was indirect advice. It was advice I heard on TV or something a person mentioned in the midst of a conversation. One of my all-time favorite shows is How I Met Your Mother and one piece of advice that stayed with me was from that show. There’s an episode where Ted tells his friends what his mom used to say to him which was, “Nothing good ever happens after 2a.m.” In the episode one of his friends, Barney, tries to disprove the theory, but Ted and Robin end up doing the opposite.

If you’ve seen the episode, you know how it ends. Basically it’s 2a.m. and Robin invites Ted over to “juice.” Ted agrees despite being in a long distance relationship, but he’s pretty bummed that his girlfriend didn’t call him five hours earlier like she said she would. While at Robin’s, things heat up and Ted goes into another room to contemplate whether or not he should go for Robin. In the other room Ted’s phone rings and Robin picks it up because they have the same phone and she thinks it’s hers. It ends up being Ted’s girlfriend and she isn’t too happy about having a girl pick up Ted’s phone at 2 in the morning. Not to mention that Robin is under the assumption that they broke up. As you can guess things don’t go the way Ted wanted them too.

I’m telling you this because I follow that advice in my own life. I’m a night owl, but I really do try to go to bed before 2a.m. Your mind normally tends to over-think things at night and it gets worse the later into the night you go. Since that’s the cause you may do something you’ll regret later because your brain is convincing you it’s a good idea and you don’t have enough strength to tell it no. It doesn’t have to be anything major, but if you’re texting someone that late and you’re over-thinking things you may say something you wouldn’t normally say if it was earlier in the day.

There’s other little tidbits I’ve picked up, but that would take way too long to write in one post. I’ll make other parts to this later, but I feel like this is good for now. It’s a good question to ponder on, “what is the best advice you’ve ever gotten?” Maybe you’ll think of more helpful tips that you didn’t realize were there.

If, and at this early point in the show it’s still a definite ‘if’, Danny did not really kill his aunt, the only logical conclusion is to assume he is covering for someone. Here are the characters he’s most likely to have taken the fall for, and the reasons why they may or may not be so likely:

Jo Masterson

Why it’s likely: First off the fact that we see her and Lacey outside when Danny came out and confessed to the murder doesn’t mean she couldn’t have done it. He’s been inside awhile, maybe Jo and Lacey only recently started playing on the swings and five minutes ago they were inside as well. Also as someone pointed out to me, the scene we saw was Jo’s dream of the events. We already know she and Lacey have different memories of the events as they disagree on the color of the jump rope. Jo’s dream might not be a reliable account of events. Also Jo is very much someone Danny would protect at all costs.

Why it’s not likely: Danny’s conversations with Jo, especially the one’s about his aunt, would make very little sense if they both knew she was the killer. Even if she had repressed the memory, Danny wouldn’t know that and his reactions to her wouldn’t be very illogical, not even blinking an eye when she asks about his motive for the murder? Also, how could the infamous Aunt/Regain necklace really relate to Joe?

Lacey Porter:

Why it’s likely: Like Jo, she could easily have committed the murder. Given the fact that the pilot showed us just a hint of possible romantic attraction between Lacy and Danny, she as the killer would add a lot of drama (though if Danny knew she was the killer, would he be likely to pursue a romantic relationship with her? Particularly given the fact that if Danny is innocent, the killer of his aunt probably killed Regina as well?). She could also have easily taken the necklace from the aunt’s body and as Regina is her friend, she could have given it to her (Regina did say it had been a gift). Lacey and Danny have yet to have any conversation that wouldn’t make much sense if they both know she killed the aunt. All things given she’s more likely than Jo.

Why it’s not likely: Honestly I think if Danny is covering for someone, Lacey is the most likely choice. The only difficulty is I don’t see Lacey as Regina’s killer too as that would severally restrict where they could take the character. Of course while there may be a connection between Regina’s death and the aunt’s, it doesn’t follow that the killer has to be the same.

Karen Desai:

Why it’s likely: Danny’s mother is definitely an attractive option. Danny would very naturally want to protect his mother. Especially if his mother told him if he took the fall he’d only be sent away for a few years, while she would get a much longer sentence. Also we’ve already been told she was the head of the social scene and that it mattered a great deal to her, maybe the aunt threatened that somehow.

Why it’s not likely: Karen and Danny’s relationship seems to be on pretty solid footing so far. While he has some issues, especially with the fact she made him come back to town, he seemed to accept her explanation and let go of his resentment. Also he thanked her, when she expressed her faith in his innocence with regards to Regina. Would he really thank you if the only reason she believed in him was because she knew he wasn’t a killer because she is and they both know it?

Vikram Desai:

Why it’s likely: The aunt was his sister. Already there’s a strong connection there. The fact that he went missing five months before Danny was released, could be explained away by the fact that he couldn’t bear to see the son who went to prison for him, or Danny threatened him into leaving.

Why it’s not likely: It’s possible Danny knows he faked his death, but it’s harder to understand why he wouldn’t share the truth with Jo when she asks him, nor why he’s protecting her by not telling her.

Kyle Masterson:

Why it’s likely: It could almost make sense that Danny might take the fall to protect Jo from learning her father is a killer. It would also explain his continual refusal in the present to tell Jo the truth. Motive could easily be explained by Kyle having an affair with the aunt. And Kyle would certainly be in a position to know taking Regina’s necklace would implicate Danny, and he might very well want to get rid of Danny under the circumstances. Also he’s certainly not too happy at the sight of Danny.

Why it’s not likely: Despite Kyle being a police chief and Jo’s father, I find it a little harder to believe Danny would take the fall for him, or that Kyle could believe he could convince an eleven year old friend of his daughter to confess to a murder he didn’t commit. While I think Kyle is one of the more interesting options, I also don’t think he’s a very likely one.

Personally, until we hear a bit more about what he has to say about the matter I’m still pretty convinced Danny is guilty. But of all the people he might have taken the fall for, Lacey seems the most likely. The strongest argument for his innocence was his line to Jo ‘I may have killed someone before, but I never lied to you’. This line would make complete sense if he had really killed his aunt. However the ‘may’ still sends up some red flags.

Dear Cesare: The real name of this episode could’ve been Cesare Borgia-wooing is easy!  Of this season, actually-you woo them even when you’re really uncomfortable with it!  I’m so happy you found a wife you actually are comfortable with.

Dear Charlotte Bride: You’re kindof too cute to be on this show or in this family.  I’m really excited to see how you handle your first big curve and I’m all ready to give you a PANTHER! to either celebrate or swipe at your reaction.  In the meantime, keep on keeping Francois Arnaud onscreen without clothes.

Dear Machiavelli: You need to show up more.  Period.

Dear Lucrezia: I’m sorry you couldn’t kill him yourself, really I am.  I do love the fact that you can let go and let Michiletto take care of you.  You, Michiletto, and Cesare make the perfect dysfunctional threesome.  I can’t even stand it.  Also, your last dress with the slitted puffed sleeves?  Gorgeous.

Dear Michiletto: Hoops of steel, you say!  I believe you, good sir!  I ALSO believe you are already exactly as loyal as the servant in “The Frog Prince” whose heart broke when he lost his master to the witch’s curse and so wound a band of iron around his chest to keep it together so he could go on living long enough to find his prince again.  EXACTLY.  I didn’t know I could love you more, and yet I do.

Dear King Ferdinand: These are the shrieking eels.  Keep them around on purpose and eventually SOMEONE’S gonna have to get eaten by the eels at this time.

Dear Nurse: Thank God you apparently take Giovanni out of his room mysteriously late at night, but…seriously, where on earth are you going??  It’s not like he has an actual bathroom or anyone asking to see him that late with Lucrezia gone or…anything.  I don’t understand it.  It was distracting.

Dear Bianca:  I really wanted to start this review by saying, “Scriptural dirty talk FTW!” but…then you just got so pitiful and wrenching.  It was an excellent progression and you executed it really well.  Go haunt Juan Borgia for me for awhile, okay?  I feel like you deserve to do more.  Also, I think you’ll be glad to know, you did manage to get your husband back for what he did, with a little assistance.

Dear Cardinal Sforza: I’ve always loved your ‘Cardinal Sforza is practical’ to ‘Cardinal Sforza can connive with anyone, bitch!’ arc, but never more so than today.  Today, you are officially an honorary Borgia.  All caps off to you, and I can’t wait for the day when you’re carrying around a vile of poison in yours.  Perhaps it has already come and we just haven’t seen it yet.

Dear Caterina Sforza: You continue to make me love you.  Don’t ever let up.

Cher hasn’t performed live on television since 2003, but she made her TV return June 18 on the season finale of The Voice – and the icon proved she’s still got it with an incredible performance!

Cher Performs ‘Woman’s World’ Live On ‘The Voice’

The “Believe” singer performed the first single “Woman’s World” off her upcoming album, which is set to be released later this year.

Her performance was amazing — but would we expect anything less from Cher? At 67 years old, this vocal extraordinaire still knows how to steal a show.

Cher’s released her last album, Living Proof, in 2001, followed by an extensive tour in 2002. She starred in the 2010 film Burlesque – but it’s about time this legendary singer made her way back to television!

Cher’s Twitter Countdown

The singer had been hyping up her performance all over Twitter. She was counting down the days (as were we) and even had her television return streamed live!

On June 18, just a few hours before her performance, she tweeted, “Tonight is the night ! #CherLivestream @NBCTheVoice @Livestream.”

Cher’s live TV return was nothing short of glorious. We’re so glad she’s back on our screens, and we can’t wait to hear more songs off her album.

Season four of The Voice came to a close June 18, and the two-hour finale was nothing short of epic. The contestants got the chance to perform with music superstars; Team Blake’s Danielle Bradbery even sang a charming duet with country singer Hunter Hayes!

Hunter and Danielle sang Hunter’s original song “I Want Crazy.” The performance was absolutely adorable and their voices complemented each other’s so well!

The country crooner was so sweet to Danielle before the performance June 17, when he tweeted, “Hey, @DBradbery, so stoked to sing with ya on @NBCTheVoice #finale #gonnabecrazy.”

Danielle responded, “@HunterHayes @NBCTheVoice So excited to sing with you too..going to be so much fun!”

They are just too cute! Maybe Danielle should go on tour with Hunter? These two country youngsters are amazing together.

Season Finale Of Superstars

Although we also loved Michelle Chamuel’s duet with One Republic and The Swon Brothers’ with Bob Seger, Hunter and Danielle’s duet was definitely the sweetest.

Nelly, Florida Georgia Line, Pitbull and The Voice coach Christina Aguilera also performed on the finale. The show was full of musical guests — and we loved every minute of it!

It’s strange, because every time I was watching Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares in week-long marathons, I kept thinking, wouldn’t it be cool if they were all singing? But I also don’t want them to be cooking the same old shit, so I want new recipes on every show, but maybe we could have the snotty waitress get fired and return for every new episode as the love interest. And she’s spoiled.

Said Joy Bovatsek, Head of Programming for Myx TV, “As the first scripted series on the network, this one of a kind musical drama combines great food, song, and dance which are all quintessential for Asian and Asian American cultures.” Really? All your shows need a musical drama combining great food, song, and dance geared toward Asian and Asian-American cultures? That’s just…a lot of work. Can’t it just be 2 guys and a kid, or 3 guys and a baby? One sexy lady, no words?

* This literally means “I don’t know what,” so it doesn’t really pertain to food, kitchens, music, or Asian romances. It’s just French words and looks like you also literally didn’t know what to end that paragraph with.

Things are finally starting to pick up for the Sam Mendes and John Logan produced Penny Dreadful series which is said to be of the of the psychosexual horror variety. The latest news to come out of Showtime’s upcoming series is that they have hired Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage) to direct the first two episodes. This is fantastic news folks. Not only do they have one hell of a director in place, but they’ve got one who knows a thing or two about the horror genre and considering he’ll be responsible for some of horror’s most classic characters, I’d say that’s a pretty good thing.

The series draws from famous works of literature, posing that some of the most terrifying protagonists — Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Gray, Dracula’s Van Helsing and more — come together in Victorian London.

Showtime President David Nivens describes the series as “very realistic, it’s very grounded; the characters are are in very human form in turn of the century London. There will be one central point, but it’s a fairly ensemble series in the way Downtown Abbey is an ensemble.”

House Rules’ Chester Drife

The end of dominant reality show The Voice has begun to take effect on other channel 9 shows with viewers quickly moving onto other networks and other rival shows.

For the first time since launch, Channel 7′s House Rules beat out channel 9′s The Block with 1.159 million viewers tuning into 7′s house renovating show, beating out The Blocks 1.130 million.

The slow start for House Rules is now a distant memory for the 7 network with the show now constantly rating extremely well.  Some viewers have stated the overt-drama and outright nastiness between competing couples is what have turned them off this season of The Block.

Also suffering for Channel 9 is Celebrity Apprentice.  Last night’s challenge episode didn’t even make the top 20 in ratings while the boardroom showdown only managed just shy of 600,000 viewers.
