D.I.E. Again is a sequel from 2008 series, D.I.E. The series’ theme is mostly involved in solving mysteries and some strange atmospheres.

Poster

The story picks up right after the second ending of D.I.E in 2008, where Yue Chilong (Roger Kwok) is not death. In this second season, Chilong and Ying Chingching (Sonija Kwok) have a baby. He is now back to his original position as a CID. However, due to his reckless, the head quarter decides to reopen D.I.E. All the team members of D.I.E rejoin the team, but they wonder who will be their new boss. As a surprise, their new boss is Chilong’s former boss, Lo Yaohan (Samuel Kwok Fung).

D.I.E team once again goes out and solve cold cases that have been abandoning for a long time. Nothing can stop the weirdest team in the police department to get involved in place nobody dare to step in. That’s D.I.E.

Storyline: As for a mystery series, it’s a good one. The case is very interesting and complicated as the same time. If compares it to the first season, this one is more mature and do not have too many “family issues.” As for a comedy, it has what it needs to be a comedy. Again, this time the writers sure make a lot of change in the plot and create more enjoyable atmospheres for the audiences. (4/5)

Characters: Compare to the first season, those characters are still crazy but they are more mature in life. Chilong and Chingching now have a new family member in their life. So neither of them can be so reckless nor forget about their baby. Cheung Chiyee (Derek Kwok) has to deal with the break-off from Chilong’s sister. He is very straight forward and does not know how to express his love to others. Also, when he knows he has cancer, he does not want to let others worry. He even tries to save others in dangerous situations so he can die while doing something meaningful. (3.5/5)

Couples: I like Cheung Chiyee and Ying Puipui (Nancy Wu), their relationship is the only that look interesting and cute. Others are already done their part in the first season, so in this series, there are not many improvements. (3/5)

Casts: Everyone stays on their tune and does well on their part. However, nobody gives me a special expression, just an average acting for everyone. (3/5)

Costume/Make-up: Flexible rating, ’cause not really pay attention to these parts. (7/10)

Music: The same music as the first season, just change the tune and music speed. (2.5/5)

Face to Fate is a wuxia series, which adapted from Wen Ruian’s novel. The story starts off wit

Face to Fate is a wuxia series, which adapted from Wen Ruian’s novel.

The story starts off with Li Boyee (Frankie Lam), a psychic who can see into a person future as well as their past. He is a person does not like to get involved in any kind of problem of the martial-art worlds. One day, he goes across a city and accidentally interferes in a fighting between the Black Force and White Force. From that day and forward, his life makes a totally different turn, which leads him to meet many new people and incidents.

Poster

For a long time, the fight between the Black Force and White Force have been going forever. After many years, both leaders of each side decides to settle things down at the Golden Seal Battle that happens every five years. Each side will choose five members to enter into the battle. Which side win will rule the martial-art for the next five year until another Golden Seal Battle. However, in recent years, the Black Force is going out of control and it creates a disaster in the martial-art world. Also, the five members of White Force that will enter the battle this year have died mysteriously and Li Boyee accidentally gets involved into the story.

During the investigation, Li Boyee meets a young and skillful doctor, Lai Yeukyee (Raymond Lam). After some misunderstanding, they became friend and help each other to solve the mystery. Later on, both men go on a journey to find another five members to replace the death-five to enter into the battle. On their journey, they meet Yip Mungsik (Tavia Yeung) and Yin Yeloi (Selena Li).

However, life is complicated and people is the most mystery of all. Many twists have appeared, many incidents have happened, and many tears have dropped. Each of them steps by step uncovered a truth story behind all the stories.

Storyline: The first thing that I need to mention is this is the first series every that I really watch throughly each episode. I always use the forward button a lot but not in this series. From this reason, you can tell that I really enjoy watching the series. Good vs. Bad is not a new story and especially in a martial-art series. However, the writers know how to make the story interesting with a lot of twists and complicated stories. Many reviewers do not like this type of writing. They say because of so many twist events, they start to lose after some episodes. However, I, personally, like twists. Because twists keep me focus on the story and will not let a scene goes by without knowing what was happening in that scene. But there is one black hole in the story that probably only affects me, I can sense John Chiang’s character is the bad guy from the start. It’s kind of weird, because usually people only sense that when they are in the middle of the series or almost at the end. I, on the other hand, have the feeling right when I see the opening music. (3.5/5)

Characters:

Li Boyee: I love his character not like as others. He has the attitude to do work. He believes in people and sometimes he can let his life and death on someone he thinks they will save him, even though the situation does not look like that. He is the kind of man that will step in to settle things down even when he says he will not want to deal with it anymore. He also has a great feeling toward the one that he loves. He also likes to do things alone by himself which makes some people misunderstands. A lot of people refer him as a guy that does not lean to either side of the world. (4.5/5)

Lai Yeukyee: He is a playboy but his actions only cover for the truth of his illness. He seems very mean but deep down inside he has a warm-heart and does care about others. Even though, he is my favorite character. I like his love toward Yin Yeloi. He can do anything to make her come-back-life. (4/5)

Yip Mungsik: She is a cute girl who is a little bit dumb and silly in Boyee’s eyes. She has a great sense toward her closest one and does not want any of them get hurt. She is very straight-forward and naive at the same time. However, all of these personalities create in her a deep care to other. In her eyes, bad can still transform and white can be better in their own side. (4.5/5)

Shum Shingnam (John Chiang): Ha, yeah, he is the bad guy that I really don’t know how to hate him. However this character reminds me about Yue Buqun in Jin Yong’s novels. He starts off as a good guy who can die for others and for the martial-art world but toward the end, his true identity uncovers and he’s just a traitor and everyone hates him to their bones. He does not have any good personalities to mention about but he has a lot of bad sides to think of. His doubts killed his wife, his appearances more important than his daughter life, his desires lead him to the wrong road and kill him at the end. You can say that bad person dies soon. (3.5/5)

Couples:

Li Boyee & Yip Mungsik: Cute couple. They have a lot of misunderstanding during first half of the series. However, after going through many incidents together, Mungsik sees the good side of Boyee and clearly steps up when the martial-art world doubts about his true identity. The audience does not really see the chemistry between them in the first few episodes but definitely can sense it. (4.5/5)

Lai Yeukyee & Yin Yeloi: Their relationship starts off pretty much alike Boyee and Mungsik because they all fight. But their relationship improves faster than Boyee and Mungsik when Yeukyee got injuries and when Yeloi went into a comma. In each part, both characters show a very deep feeling toward the other one, and they clearly can die if it can save the other life. (4/5)

Shum Kohhung (Nancy Wu) & Lau Fanyee (Derek Kwok): In a series when Good vs. Bad, there will be a couple that has different background and falling in love and they are that couple. At first, Kohhung is just wanted to help her father to kill off the number one assassin in the martial-art world. However, when she got kidnapped by Fanyee, and went through some difficult times, she knows that Fanyee is not a born-killer but the world pushed him to become one. Their relationship is very tied and they both can die together without any regrets. (4/5)

Casts:

Frankie Lam: This is the first time I see Frankie acts as in a wuxia series and have a lot of actions. I like the way he portrays Boyee’s face when he is thinking or does not care about what really happens around him. (4/5)

Raymond Lam: Fix his role perfectly. He has the look and the smile. Look for a handsome boy with a playboy attitude. Smile for does not care about others. His acting is cool, love it. (4/5)

Tavia Yeung: What else can I say? I love her face when she does not really understand what Boyee is having in his mind. Wondering eyes, silly look, and beautiful smile. She portrays well and does push up to her later role in other series. (4.5/5)

John Chiang: First time sees him as a bad guy. I really hate him. However, as an actor, he does very well. Just make me hate him is a good job. Because sometimes, some artists who always portray as a good person, cannot really pull off to be a super bad guy. And David did what he needed to be a bad guy. (3.5/5)

Costume/Make-up: I hate this series’ costumes and make-ups. Honestly, why do they need to make the Black Force look so “anime” ? It does not help a bit in the story and just make me laugh when I see their costumes. I also hate Raymond’s costume, too modern time, and David’s costume is the worst design ever, his bell is too low, almost feel the bell will fall down to ground anytime. (1.5/5)

Disintegration effect: Average. Some of the scenes are using too much effect and I lose the feeling of watching a martial-art series. (2.5/5)

Music: Love it. Both version, Raymond’s opening and Frankie-Tavia’s ending. Both lovely and enjoyable. (4.5/5)

Time to take a quick midpoint check on The Beauty of the Game after nine ‘eventful’ episodes. As per

Time to take a quick midpoint check on The Beauty of the Game after nine ‘eventful’ episodes. As per my usual style, I won’t talk about the storyline, but mainly make some laconic observations about the so-called acting. I’ve abandoned the so called classic lines because there sadly aren’t any more.

Starting with the stable: Kingdom Yuen and Christine Ng. I suppose I expect nothing less from them, and as usual they manage to wring the requisite emotions. Christine’s character in particular is potentially very interesting, simply because I can think of a lot of top actresses who are probably like that, and Christine’s performance isn’t in-your-face at all, which keeps the audience guessing.

Next, the uhhh okay: Kate Tsui. I always say she’s a better movie actress than TVB actress, because you don’t need audience goodwill for them to see your acting for what it is. If I didn’t have unjustified high expectations of her, I might praise her (acting + effort, not her role). But I won’t because she still can’t say her lines properly. She’s impressively subtle in some scenes; mildly over the top in others. But she’s toned down considerably and her acting style remains more nuanced than others if one is willing to look past the fact that “I hate Kate Tsui”. I’ll explain this comment later, because that requires a lot more space than I have here.

Then the floating around: Sharon Chan and Lai Lok Yi. I feel like I’m being a little acerbic for saying this, because they have been around for ages, and well one would of course feel bad that they are still in this uncomfortable position. Let me just put it this way, it isn’t bad acting – far from it. They are, well, natural and they look angry when they are angry and confused when they are confused and sad when they are sad. They are archetypal TVB artistes, and they will probably always get biggish roles, maybe lead roles one day. Ok yeah, but that doesn’t make it good acting. I’ll leave Lai Lok Yi alone because his role hasn’t had much to do, but Sharon Chan is just Sharon Chan and she’ll forever be Sharon Chan. Have you watched Dream of Colours? Am I being cryptic? I know I can’t express myself concisely, so again, I’ll explain this later, and maybe I’ll change my mind over the next eleven episodes.

And the trying too hard: Wong Cho Lam. Actually, the guy belongs to the I’m-so-over-the-top-that-I’m irritating school, but I find it so ridiculous and so unbelievable that anyone would act like he was in a primary school pantomime that I actually laugh at his antics. Maybe that’s his goal. A lot people found it cute in Best Selling Secrets. Now everyone suddenly hates it. It just shows that there’s no true yardstick for ‘good’ acting.

Finally, the no comments: Stephen Huynh and Jeanette Leung. If the former is trying to act like he can’t act, then he is doing a good job; if not, I don’t know what he is doing. As for the latter, if she didn’t have those Alphabets, she would probably be stuck with being her Strawberry or Pineapple. In reel life and real life.

Setting out on their quest for fame and fortune, three female TV stars of different backgrounds are resolved to achieve their dreams at any price. But after so many ups and downs in their acting careers, they finally come to discover the secret of true beauty.

Driven by sheer vanity, KO CHING MAN (Kate Tsui) takes part in a beauty pageant despite the strong opposition of her mother, a long-retired actress named CHEUNG LAI HUNG (Yuen King Tan), and leaps to stardom soon after winning the championship. Rising actress TONG HO YEE (Sharon Chan) feels threatened by MAN and decides to join another TV station to look for a breakthrough, which is not supported by her production assistant friend DEACON CHONG (Lai Lok Yi). Leading actress KEUNG CHIN FUNG (Ng Wing Mei) used to be a bitter rival of HUNG. Realizing that MAN’s acting career is taking off at top speed, FUNG means to approach her as a mentor, through which she hopes to drag the girl into her moral downfall bit by bit. Desperate for everlasting beauty, FUNG injects herself with illegal substances in an attempt to slow the aging process. But things do not really go as planned and her face starts to change in shape. Her advertising deal with a cosmetics company is subsequently canceled and MAN has soon replaced her as the new product endorser. Even the Award of Best Actress, which she has won for years, is slipping out of her hands. To vent her anger, FUNG seeks to extract revenge on MAN, finally plunging her into a world of pain and trouble.

Because I am having a great time with all the self-referential jibes/inner circle jokes in this show, I’ll update this as the show goes along, and if my interest doesn’t wane (as it undoubtedly will in due course).

1) For the rabid fans: “Why be a fan when you can be a good person instead?”

“Fortunately I won the beauty pageant, or I would have to play an extra.”

2) Ha. Spot on. Especially with those strawberries and sweet soup and what not in TVB game shows.

“Who would know? The Si Lais (ie. housewives) watching can’t tell the difference.”

4) Does this remind you of a certain recently highly acclaimed show which received a 51 point rating for its final episode?
I have this really weird obsession with Chinese celebrities… Well, more like a really, really

I have this really weird obsession with Chinese celebrities… Well, more like a really, really big fan, I guess. For as long as I can remember, I have always been watching Chinese dramas and movies. I’m Vietnamese, so of course, I watch them with translations… ehh, sometimes I’ll even watch them in Chinese with English subtitles. These are just sort of like TV shows, but aired in Asia. They have a lot of different stories; modern and ancient. I’ve come to realize that these have brainwashed me heavily. I’m not sure if that’s necessarily a bad thing or not. They’ve brainwashed me with these love stories that seems so perfect. They had made me believe in love, not just between a man and a woman, but also simply between all human beings that really… does not exist the same way in reality. Do you know what I mean?… Now that I think about it, maybe that’s why I have such high expectations for those around me. That’s probably why I get disappointed so easily when I see something out of place. Am I being silly? This is where someone would say, “Well, of course, it’s Hollywood. It’s only on TV, it’s not real.” Even though I do realize that, but for some reason, I still somehow believe that somewhere out there, those kinds of love does exist. I just have not been lucky enough to witness it yet.

I think what I’ll do here with my blogs, as well, is probably talk about the series that I’ve watched in the past and currently watching. That would be something kind of… cool to do. I don’t know. We’ll see.

Speaking of which, I’ve actually just finished watching “Beyond the Realm of Conscience”. Charmaine Sheh, Tavia Yeung…. they are just a couple of my favorites. This drama is not the best that I’ve seen. I honestly think TVB is just running out of stories to film. Maybe that’s why these aren’t so great anymore. TVB is like… it’s a grand production company. I think. Kind of like for singers, they have record companies. TVB is that kind of category but for filming.

As the proverb said “With a distinguished father such as you, the son is sure to do well”. However, for this pair of Father and son, it is quite difficult because both of them have different characters, different way of doing things and even their life goals are totally different from each other. Father, Chor Fan (Sunny Chan) has feelings of a man in the 60s, Son, Chor Ci (Ron Ng) finds that he is too slow as compared to others who are living in the 21st Century. A comedy which shows a travel in time. The circumstances that happen will not only cause positive aftertaste, but allows one to think about the meaning behind ‘There’s no inborn talent to become a powerful person overnight; A good man should work hard and stand up strong on his own feet’.

Chor Ci from the 21st Century went back in time to the 60s when his father was in his youth. Father and Son became best of brothers. Chor Fan sheltered Chor Ci and Chor Ci came to know the stingy boss of the Noodle Stall Ko San Chuen (David Chiang), the fierce landlady Tam Lan Ching (Gigi Wong), Bickering Lover Ching Lan Fun (Shirley Yeung) and the rich young lady Leung Pin Pin (Nancy Wu). Chor Ci offended many people and seldom greet others. Hence, he wasn’t well liked by many other neighbours such as the police sergeant Ngau Ching Wing (Louis Yuen). There is only Chor Fan who protects him all the time and even introduced him to work at a departmental store. However, Chor Ci, who is over ambitious, only knows how to blame his father for being too old-fashioned and allows others to take advantage of him. Chor Ci almost caused many other neighbours to lose their homes. Chor Ci also spoilt his father’s relationship with the con-lady So Fung Nei (Myolie Wu). When he started to regret his actions, he realized that he is actually.

COPS – definitely watch

Cast: Michael Miu, Felix Wong, Jessica Hsuan, Nancy Wu, Vincent Wong, Kenny Wong, and Stephen Huynh.

Review: It reminds me about the Last Standing but more complicated. I like to see how the character will actually turn out to be. Hope the bad guy stays as bad guy and the good guy keeps be the good guy.

WU JIE MONK – probably watch

Cast: Bosco Wong, Michael Tse, Kate Tsui, Sunny Chan

Review: Look interesting but it is just a twisted in the palace. Also, this is the first time I see Bosco without his hairs and seems his character’s kind of interesting. However, I will try to watch when it comes out. Hope it won’t disappointed me.

SEVEN DAYS OF LOVE NEXT DOOR – definitely watch

Cast: Bobby Au Yeung, Bowie Lam, Myolie Wu, Yoyo Mung, Sonija Kwok, Sammul Chan, Crystal Tin, and Evergreen Mak

Review: This series is clearly a comedy (from the trailer) and has a little bit of romantic and family’s relationship. I like the part where Bobby tries to kill himself and Bowie knocks on the door. When the door opens, Bobby sees the knife in Bowie’s hand, and Bowie sees the gun in Bobby’s hand. It’s so hilarious lolz. I am highly looking forward to the series.

FIVE FLAVORS OF LIFE

Cast: Roger Kwok, Esther Kwan, Michelle Yim, Ng Wai Kwok, Derek Kwok, Oscar Leung, Vivien Yeo, Mimi Lo, Elaine Kong, and Regene Cheung

Review: It’s about food but seems so weird. Even though, I want to see Esther, Roger, and Michelle, but for some reasons I don’t like the series that much. I will have second thought when it actually comes out.

SHALL WE STATE THE CASE

Cast: Raymond Lam, Tavia Yeung, Kenneth Ma, Bernice Liu, Astrid Chan, Evergreen Mak, Lee Kwok Lun, Mary Hon, Law Lok Lam, and Lee Sing Cheung.

Review: Again, another weird series, I think because of the original script. I don’t think I will watch this series, but will have second thought.

PU SONG LING – definitely watch

Cast: Steven Ma, Sunny Chan, Linda Chung, Fala Chen, Elliot Yue, Rebecca Chan, Lau Dan, Charmaine Li, Eric Li, and Rico Chan.

Review: It looks so sad but I like it. Definitely watch it when it comes out.

FEMALE FIST – definitely watch

Cast: Liu Xuan, John Chiang, Jacky Heung, Law Lok Lam, and Eric Li

Review: Recently I like John Chiang a lot, so of course I will watch this series. Also, it’s about kungfu, I don’t watch this type of series for quite sometimes. Miss it thought.

TWILIGHT INVESTIGATION – definitely watch

Cast: Wong He, Linda Chung, Raymond Wong, Johnson Lee, Power Chan, Rebecca Chan, Shek Sau, and Kingdom Yuen.

Review: I love this couple since The Gem of Life. Also, it looks like a comedy, I love comedy and mystery. Good combination.

GROWING THROUGH LIFE

Cast: Damian Lau, Cecilia Yip, Raymond Lam, Bosco Wong, Toby Leung, Dominic Lam, Lisa Lui, etc.

Review: Nah, not going to watch it. I still not even finish The Drive of Life. There’s no way I will watch this one.

HERE COMES THE PRINCESS – probably watch

Cast: Moses Chan, Charmaine Sheh, Linda Chung, Fala Chen, Kenneth Ma, Raymond Wong, Susanna Kwan, Lee Heung Kam, and Louis Yuen

Review: Look kind of funny, I think I will watch it.

FORENSIC HEROES III – definitely watch

Cast: Kevin Cheng, Raymond Cho, Mandy Cho

Review: It seems this time Bobby and Yoyo are out of the series. However, it doesn’t mean I stop watching the show. The last season is not quite good but I still have fate in this one. At least they have change in the casts.

RIGHTEOUS SEAS OF HEROIC LOVE – definitely watch

Cast: Sheren Tang, Wayne Lai, Elliot Yue, Raymond Wong, Fala Chen, Ngo Ka Nin, Nancy Wu, Susan Tse, Ben Wong, Kara Hui, Lee Sing Cheung, Kwok Fung, and Helen Ma

Review: It’s a super sad series and I don’t think they will end up together (probably they can be together when they die). But I will watch it because I love to see Sheren and Wayne. My second best couple.

These are the TVB series released in year 2009. Out of 25 series (including 2 warehoused, 2 recently

These are the TVB series released in year 2009. Out of 25 series (including 2 warehoused, 2 recently released and 1 mainland China series broadcasted by TVB), I have watched only 7 series (full, meaning all the episodes of it). Usually, I will watch more than 10 every year, but this year, full of assignments, hence not much time to concentrate on TVB series, except some really exciting ones. Estimated myself to watch another two more series (You’re Hired and Greatness of a Hero) by this holiday before end of year 2009.

The series that are bolded are the series I have watched:

The Gem of Life (TVB 41st Anniversary Series – 2008)- have watched first fifteen episodes of it, super boring at the beginning and the middle too as responded by the public, skipped until the final episode (Ep 82), cool act of skipping the whole series from beginning till final.

Off Pedder – over few hundred episodes (around 20 minutes each), watched some when free, or when the time coincides, no intention to catch the series.

When Easter Showers fall on the Sunny West

Pages of Treasure - Watched it because I am free on that time, quite good, but some actors and actresses’ actings are poor, but I like the melody created from this series.

E.U. - No doubt among the best series of the year, the intensity is great, catching this series when it is released, good plot, good actors (but poor actresses).

The Winter Melon Tale

The King of Snooker

Man in Charge

Rosy Business - The best series of the year, at first, have no intention to watch it, but after persuasion from friends and relatives, watched it, super interesting and exciting series, fantastic actors and actresses, good plot, unexpected to be such a good series, many quotes remembered from it.

Just Love II

The Threshold of a Persona

Sweetness in the Salt

Burning Flame III – Watched it because the previous two are great also. Hoping for another exciting fire scenes, but comes out to be quite disappointing, the plot is not very well created.

A Bride for a Ride – Watched it because it is humourous, funny and not serious. Helpful in reducing stress, watching it during study is very good, make you laugh, but has no sense at all.

You’re Hired – Watching now, postponing this series until holiday (now) only watch. Have no intention to watch at first, but since this series is well-received and kinda humourous too, then decided to watch it. Good performances from Dayo Wong and Charmaine Sheh.

D.I.E. Again - Watched it because the previous one is so cool. This time, kinda disappointing, kinda nonsense in some ways, but funny too. Not as better as the first one, but still okay.

The Stew of Life

In the Chamber of Bliss

Beyond the Realm of Conscience (TVB 42nd Anniversary Series – 2009) – This is highly-promoted, so almost everyone watched it. Quite good in the beginning, but boring a bit in the middle, and in the end part, the plot suddenly went too fast with characters under-developed. Some scripts are poorly-written, but the effort they put is countless. Good that this series gets 50 rating points, but still lose to Rosy Business. A good series too.

Born Rich (TVB 42nd Anniversary Series – 2009)

A Great Way to Care (Warehoused series)

The Greatness of a Hero (Warehoused series) – Watched first eleven episodes of it, then suddenly so busy with assignments, drop the series in half way, but a nice series too. Will be continued after finishing You’re Hired.

A Chip Off the Old Block – This series is just released and will be nominated in next year (2010).

The Beauty of a Game – This series will be released in the mid of December and will be nominated in next year (2010).

My sincerest apologies for being so indolent; I was doing a little bit of relocation work and

My sincerest apologies for being so indolent; I was doing a little bit of relocation work and – as with last year – there was no incentive for me to stay in and watch the TVB Anniversary Awards Show. I don’t take it seriously, and I never have.

I’m glad TVB rewarded the deserving, as ungrudgingly as they did. I am also becoming quite the clairvoyant – save for the Dayo Wong pick which I should have seen coming – but that doesn’t show how good I am at reading the tea leaves; all it shows is how one-sided the race was this year. Good picks for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress; expected pick for Favourite Male Character – although I wasn’t too hot on Chai Gau and would personally have liked Moses Chan to win because I adored his gentlemanly king to bits, dodgy acting nonewithstanding. I understand Yiu Kam Ling winning Favourite Female Character, but she certainly isn’t mine. Both Most Improved awards were all right; I guess some people might have issues with Aimee Chan winning over Sharon Chan, but Sharon Chan has, quite frankly, improved at snail pace – if you can call that improvement at all. ie. it’s 0 to 50 as compared to 60 to 61. As for the Best Performance Award, it isn’t productive use of my valuable time to comment, so Stephen Chan can shut up and take his new award away.

So in a sense thank you TVB; but also no thank you, because if they had allowed a major upset, I would find more entertaining and colourful commentary.

Just watched the grand TVB 42nd Anniversary Awards Presentation (Year 2009), it is an exciting award

Just watched the grand TVB 42nd Anniversary Awards Presentation (Year 2009), it is an exciting awards ceremony where nominated TVB artists are seated to welcome the winners of the night. Eventhough it tooks 2 hours and 30 minutes (quite long), but it is very entertaining, with some artists making jokes and funny remarks.

Can’t believe that Tavia Yeung sat at the first row, first row is dedicated to previous best actresses or actors (in this case, actresses). It shows obviously that TVB is highly-promoting Tavia. Good too, since her acting skill is no doubt, good. However, it seems unfair to Myolie Wu, Sonija Kwok, who sat in second row. Almost all of the artists present wear beautiful clothing, except Linda Chung and Liza Wang (what’s wrong with them!)

The official nomination list is revealed a month ago, and now, let’s see the results, the winners.

TVB.com Popularity Award: Wayne Lai.

My opinion: No doubt that he won this award too. He is now so famous, even on the public street, being recognized as Chai Gau (name of his character in the hit series, Rosy Business). He is gaining much popularity lately. At first, I thought Yoyo Mung or Tavia Yeung will win this, because their rankings in TVB.com is top 2.

Best variety show – Club Sparkle.

Top 5 – Club Sparkle, Super Trio Supreme, Beautiful Cooking, Since 1967, The Voice.

My opinion: I have watched some episodes of the series. Really likes the humour and jokes made by the presenters, Ng Kwan Yue and Chin Ka Lok. This show really helps us to get along with the artists and even directors of movies.

Best host of variety show – Eric Tsang, Chin Ka Lok, Wong Cho Lam, Louis Yuen(Super Trio Supreme)

Top 5 – Leo Ku (Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?), Sandra Ng and Chin Ka Lok (Club Sparkle), Ronald Cheng, Alex Fong, Edmond Leung (Beautiful Cooking), Siu Yee and Sammy Leung (Neighbourhood Treasures), Eric Tsang, Chin Ka Lok, Wong Cho Lam, Louis Yuen (Super Trio Supreme)

My opinion: It’s time for the four person to win again. These four are always making funny remarks and images. The show is kinda humorous and gives fun to viewers, really helps in reducing stress. Their cooperation as a team (quite a large team – 4 person) finally paid off, because last time is only of three.

Best Documentary Programme – One From The Heart

My opinion: Not much opinion on it, because these programmes are not aired in Malaysia yet. From the previews of these programmes I have seen, the winning programme seems to touch on the life of famous TVB artists like Louise Lee, Michelle Yim, Liza Wang, etc. I think this is what makes this programme won.

Most Improved Female Artist – Aimee Chan

Top 5 – Queenie Chu, Koni Lui, Catherine Chau, Sharon Chan, Aimee Chan.

My opinion: She has improved a lot in latest series she has acted in, especially in Burning Flame 3, acting as girlfriend and wife of Bosco in the series. Many would think Sharon Chan is a better choice after being defeated by Nancy Wu last year in the same category.

Most Improved Male Artist – Pierre Ngo

Top 5 – Johnson Lee, Pierre Ngo, Raymond Wong, Raymond Chiu, Jim Tang.

My opinion: He has acted in so many series, and joined TVB for more than 10 years. Hence, it’s surely a deserving time for him to win this award. Besides that, his acting in the famous series, Rosy Business as the bad eldest son is good too.

Best Performance of the Year – Tavia Yeung

My opinion: She is the one surely deserving the award. This award is newly created, and is judged by the panels, not by votings. It is the first time for her to act as the villain in a series, a great breakthrough for her in Beyond the Realm of Conscience.

Most Favourite TV Female Character – Tavia Yeung (Beyond the Realm of Conscience)

Top 5 – Sheren Tang (Rosy Business), Teresa Mo (Off Pedder), Tavia Yeung (Beyond the Realm of Conscience), Charmaine Sheh (You’re Hired), Charmaine Sheh (Beyond the Realm of Conscience)

My opinion: Tavia Yeung is heavily-promoted lately, especially on Beyond the Realm of Conscience. Many people loves Tavia’s acting skill, keeps on improving and getting attention of viewers., including me. Her evil facial and eyes expression in the series, gave her the award, deserving too. Now, this award is given to Tavia, so the Best Actress is surely Sheren Tang.

Most Favourite TV Male Character – Wayne Lai (Rosy Business)

Top 5 – Wayne Lai (Rosy Business), Kevin Cheng (Beyond the Realm of Conscience), Dayo Wong (You’re Hired), Moses Chan (Gem of Life), Michael Tse (E.U.)

My opinion: Definitely for the only deserving one, Wayne Lai. Everyone remembers his quote from the series, Rosy Business; ‘one person has how many ten lives?’ which is very meaningful. His acting is superb and excellent, with enoguh experience to win this award. He is so famous right now.

Best Supporting Actress – Susan Tse (Rosy Business)

Top 5 – Linda Chung (Gem of Life), Susan Tse (Rosy Business), Fala Chen (Stew of Life), Susanna Kwan (Beyond the Realm of Conscience), Michelle Yim (Beyond the Realm of Conscience)

My opinion: Really happy to know that Susan Tse is winning this award. Just coming back to TVB this year, her acting skill is unpredictable on her first appearance in Rosy Business, the famous series of the year. Her face aids her a lot in acting as villain in series, very naturally evil-looking (to be honest). Her facial and eyes expression as the main villain are excellent too. I remember a quote from her in the series; ‘you are my heavenly enemy, born to be fated as my greatest enemy’. Wow, cool..

Best Supporting Actor – Michael Tse (E.U.)

Top 5 – Ngok Wah (Gem of Life), Michael Tse (E.U.), Pierre Ngo (Rosy Business), Lee Kwok Lun (Beyond the Realm of Conscience), Kenneth Ma (Born Rich)

My opinion: Everyone knows he will definitely win this award. I support him too. His appearance in the series, E.U. affected the performance of the whole series. Without Laughing Gor (name of his character in the series which is very famous), E.U. would not be that successful. Many people are puting it as a hot issue even after the series finish airing. A new movie is created and entitled “Laughing Gor” that tells a story about him too.

Best Actress – Sheren Tang (Rosy Business)

Top 5 – Ada Choi (Gem of Life), Teresa Mo (Off Pedder), Sheren Tang (Rosy Business), Charmaine Sheh (Beyond the Realm of Conscience), Tavia Yeung (Beyond the Realm of Conscience)

My opinion: Sheren Tang definitely deserves this award, to become TV Queen of the year. Her acting skill is no doubt, the best among the best. Her performance in Rosy Business as the fourth wife is great, fantastic and awesome. Honestly, no other actress could replace her performance in the series. Happy that she won it finally, remembering that she has been defeated by Gigi Lai in the same category, both under the same series, War and Beauty few years back which caused much stir on public responses.

Best Actor – Wayne Lai (Rosy Business)

Top 5 – Wayne Lai (Rosy Business), Steven Ma (Sweetness in the Salt), Bosco Wong (Burning Flame 3), Dayo Wong (You’re Hired), Moses Chan (Beyond the Realm of Conscience)

My opinion: Again, this year’s best actor is the one and only one, Wayne Lai. Everyone remembers him from the funny Chu Pat Kai in Journey to the West till the current days as Chai Gau in Rosy Business. Everyone knows his acting skill is superb, talented, experience-filled. Everyone remembers his quotes in the series, like what I have mentioned earlier. His character in the series really puts him front, so front that no other actors are even able to fight with him for the award to become the TV King of the year.

Best Series – Rosy Business.

Top 5 – E.U., Rosy Business, Burning Flame 3, You’re Hired, Beyond the Realm of Conscience.

My opinion: Predicted result, since many important awards are grabbed by Rosy Business members (Sheren Tang, Wayne Lai, Susan Tse, Pierre Ngo). This series turns out to be among the most successful series among all, reaching 47 rating points in the ending. The plot is fantastic, the acting is awesome, everything is great in this series. It is not highly-promoted like Beyond the Realm of Conscience, but gets much attention from viewers too and gaining high popularity among the public too. Too bad that the heavily-promoted Beyond the Realm of Conscience did not win eventhough the ending gets 50 rating points, the highest, series with highest rating of the year, and of all, similar to TVB’s Moonlight Resonance and non-TVB’s Jewel in the Palace. This series is quite good too, but some of the script is poorly-written and the plot went exagerrated, it runs too fast at the end there, eventhough there are so much effort put on this series.

Lifetime Achievement Award – Lee Tim Seng.

My opinion: He has joined TVB long long time ago as a normal actor. Then, he leaved to become directors of TVB series. He had directed many famous TVB series, some even in few decades ago, and the latest one is the best series of the year, Rosy Business. His hard work is finally paid off by getting the highest and the most significant award of the presentation night. Hopes that he will continue to direct more better series in upcoming years. Don’t retire so fast.

————————-

My overall opinion: Basically, I was happy with the overall result. Many of my picks have won the awards, and it’s really good for them and for me as well, can be considered birthday gift for me. Rosy Business grabbed almost all important awards this year, while Beyond the Realm of Conscience only managed to win one, despite included in Top 5 many times. The whole award show is very entertaining (remembering how Law Kar Ying said about his wife, Liza Wang, whom sitted right beside the stage, staring at him). The awards ceremony seems to get better every year. Keep it up, TVB, create more better series in upcoming years!

*WARNING*: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. If you DO NOT want to be spoiled, please DO NOT read. You have been warned.

This case was probably the most complex among them all because it contained a 48 hour deadline and a lot of information searching and witnesses seeking.

This case was actually about insurance fraud. A man (Johnny Tang) was waiting for the insurance company to transfer money over to his account after the death of his sister – who bought a policy that has him as the person who will benefit from the insurance if something happened. The cause of death was due to the fact that she was hit by lightning.

Every piece of information was there and seemed to be legit on the surface. However, when the ICAC investigators dugged deeper into the case, they found out that not only the deceased was still alive and well, but she did not have a brother or have ever been in those places that the paperwork had claimed. The truth was that she had lost her ID card awhile back and had since replaced it with a new one. Her identity was used to commit fraud without her knowledge (obviously) and had send the ICAC investigators on a wild goose chase. Though all was not in vain since they managed to persuade all witnesses to show up in court. The only problem was that they were not able to convince the so-claimed ‘brother’ to slip out who his co-conspirators were.

While Carrie (Maggie Siu) and Henry (Raymond Wong) were riding around verifying different pieces of information the insurance company passed on to them, Kenny (Pakho Chau) and Sam Sam (Fiona Sit) were trying to persuade the guy to disclose his co-conspirators. As the clock was ticking, everything seemed so nerve-wrecking and not promising until the man finally agreed to help them. (Because he was able to see through Kenny and Sam Sam’s sincerity toward him – and it was not just about arresting the criminals and solving their case.)

This episode not only unfolded the conspiracy between several parties involved in the insurance fraud but also showed some more bonding of the ICAC team. There were also traces of a personal life out of their work. However, the person who got most out of it was Sam Sam since we were able to see that she had a boyfriend (who was portrayed by Jason Chan). We also learned in this episode that Carrie has a little daughter while Henry was already married. Although they were busy with their work, but they still managed to take some time – even IF only a little – to call and check in on their family members. Sam Sam, seeing how her colleagues cherished those little moments, also made an effort to spend the little time that she could spare with her boyfriend. It led to very heart-warming scenes at the end.

*All images were captured by DTLCT

Well, just finish watching this new drama from TVB and feel no bad about it even they need to make happy ending every story so the ending you no need to watch also you will know. But, still this catch almost more than a million people watching it. This is only official, unofficial I think will reach more than 2 million? Maybe.

Oh this time they so proud about their CG. And I feel they improve a lot from here. Well, everyday doing it from worst you also can be a master later or sooner. This is how they work. They can simply take anybody that are handsome and pretty and throw them 10 – 20 dramas and from there you gonna improve yourself and if you fail then you still become supporter acting…haha..

Well, here their CG

I know this is not something you can see at Hollywood CG or what but imagine this whole 33 episode series shoot at Hong Kong Garden nearby housing area only and they make it look like so grand and of course to match the era design even the lamp post, reflection they did it so nice.

You use to laugh at their CG last time and now they make it great.

I looking forward for their next CG drama..haha…hopefully getting better and better..

Oh, for those who wanna get download this series you can get it here.
