Don’t get me wrong, I still love crapping on Chicago regardless: I was just expecting more Cutler fuck ups. I mean, it still doesn’t get much better than shutting that pompous ass of a sports town up with an absolute dismantling in a late afternoon game to the tune of 36-10. Those late afternoon games are essentially the poor man’s prime time games, so I’ll take semi-prime time embarrassment any day of the week. And to do so in a throwback uniform, perhaps one of the greatest in the NFL, with a 40 year old quarterback who is an MVP contender going against one of the pussiest (just ask Brian Urlacher) whineyest, diabeteyest quarterbacks in recent memory? Yeah, it was a pretty good afternoon. I was all anticipating the T-Pups to get pitchfork raped in Denver last night too, and then they pulled out a win as well! Minnesota, bitch, that’s just how we roll. Oh, except for our beloved Purple Jesus fumbling/winking at us all, pretending he’s human again. And all those ticky tacky penalties. Oh, and the cock tease of thinking Antoine Winfield was going to be playing again, but then not having him play and then not even really needing him. And having to see Benalty Sapp starting. That was frustrating. But a lot of that was offset by Favre, WHO I STILL DISLIKE AS A PERSON, throwing for almost 400 yards, Cedric Griffin wanting the haters to hate some more after his interception, and Jared Allen spitting out blood on the side lines. The retardery of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman was pretty good too, despite their suckling from the Cutler teat. So really, yeah, a lot of fist shaking was offset by fist pumping, and when the dust settled, you found that we’ve still got a bad ass team.

PJD’s Mushroom Stamp of Approval – Percy Harvin: And perhaps most bad ass of them all is rookie wide out Percy Harvin. This week, Harvin gets the highly selective (and sensitive!) Mushroom Stamp of Approval for notching his first 100 yard receiving game in his pro career. Really, the kid had a pretty big day, with all those yards, a fantastic touchdown grab between three clueless Bear defenders and a brilliant end around that went for like 35 yards and also made you face palm because you couldn’t quite understand why Childress hasn’t been calling plays like that for Percy all season long. I hate to say this too, since Joe Buck and Troy Aikman actually pointed this out (and they were also the ones saying Cutler just needs more offensive weapons to be effective!) but Harvin’s success this year is nothing short of phenomenal. The fact that he is playing wide receiver in the NFL, which usually isn’t an impact position until a player’s third year (See: Sidney Rice), that he’s taken the hits he’s had and been relatively healthy, has yet to hit a rookie wall, and is running plays and patterns that he’s never bothered with throughout all of college … holy donkey punchings. This weed head is only going to get better. And I’ll say this. If he is this good because of his secret elixir based off the ganja plants, then keep on keepin’ on Percy. You’re like a wild boar out there that has stolen my heart and ran away with it greased up in human fat. Or something. Great game though.

Can I has an MVP? Know who else had a great game? The old as fuck Silver Fox. The guy who’s ten year plan is not to get addicted to pain pills again. The man who, comparatively, is having the greatest season in his whole attention whoring existence. And god damn, it is awesome watching him carve up some defenses. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still confused as shit that BRETT FUCKING FAVRE is quarterbacking the Minnesota Vikings, but … shit, again I think Aikman or Buck said this … you still know he’s going to be good for a back breaking interception at some point in his tenure here. It’s called the law of averages. It has to happen. It’s almost destiny. But until that happens Favre looks like he’s going to continue to play out of his fucking mind. Really, it’s unreal. The guy has what, three interceptions this year? This is after he has averaged 15 a season throughout his life? That is seriously fucked up. He hasn’t even been throwing many passes that could be picked off, although I did count maybe three yesterday. That hasn’t been typical for Favre this year. And the fact that the Vikings are now 10-1 when they only won 10 games last year? Yeah, I’d say he had a large scale effect on the team. Sure, Peyton Manningfetusface is playing redonkulous as well, but his team is always great. If Favre keeps this up though, I don’t even know if I can hate on him, more than normal anyway. I mean, he may end with like 35 touchdowns and five interceptions? 3500 yards? That’s obnoxious. Of course, his fifth INT will be for six points in the NFC Championship game, so … well, let’s not think about that now. Just be happy that you picked him up in the 15th round of your fantasy draft, or more likely, off the waiver wire. You prick. Speaking of, anyone down for a PJD fantasy league next year?!

Take a long hard look at yourself, Chicago: Your team sucks. As Rick Morrisey of some Chicago Tribune said, you’re a long ways away from dominance. This isn’t even an offseason catch up game you can play. I mean, not that if it was you could play the game, because your team has no draft picks and millions of worthless dollars tied up in a shitty, shitty quarterback, one that, despite what Aikman and Buck were saying last night about him being such a solid competitor and fantastic leader, he clearly isn’t. He’s a horrible person that fornicates with baby deer, so I’ve heard, and has a droopier face than a stroke victim. I was about to call 911 in the third quarter because he looked so despondent I thought that his blood sugar must have been low. Quick! Someone help him! He’s going to die! Whatever. Jay Cutler is a fuck face and I love that he is Chicago’s quarterback for years to come. That Josh McDaniels is a damned genius. Also, Orlando Pace? It’s about time you retire. I don’t blame you for “getting injured” during the game so you didn’t have to get embarrassed by Jared Allen anymore. Watching that was as brutal as watching a bungee cord snap mid fall. And if Lovie Smith is still their coach after this season, well, three cheers from me because I’m pretty sure the charm has worn off around those parts. I’m already looking forward to the Monday night game in Chicago later on this year. Hopefully the division will be wrapped up and we can see a full 60 minutes of TarVar! YOU JUST GOT JACKSONED, BITCH!

Tweets o’ the Game! We are going to try another new feature here in the game review called Tweet o’ the Game. Or that’s at least what we’ll call it until we come up with something more creative. What we’ll do though is share some of our favorite Tweets that we saw during the game and add what was going through our head in response. So Tweet away! The funnier you are (or smarter, I guess), the more likely we’ll like it. Just sayin’.

From Tweeter Brandt32 comes:

“Someone started a Cutler sucks chant in the bathroom that was pretty cool.”

Are you sure it wasn’t Cutler himself? I imagine he has to go relieve his bladder during the game after he’s been pounding piss tasting beer before play and at half time. Also, hearing that there was a chant like this from Viking fans at the Metrodome is 100% not surprising. Was the guy that started the chant also fucking some blacked out chick in a bathroom stall as well? Never ceases to amaze me.

From Slothrop1 comes:

“The Bears have moved from sharting to straight shitting of the pants.”

I’m trying to visualize this. I picture the Bears just walking into the Metrodome to start, already leaking a poopy smear down their white pants, and then when the Vikings scored, what was it, 24 points in the second quarter? They just went to full scale shitting. Kind of like those stick figure movies where the guy screams “MY ANUS IS BLEEDING!” I’ll see if I can find it. Great visual though.

From acforever (you should follow him and his blog) comes:

“Ooh, a week off from those hideous unis. Throwbacks rock.”

Seriously. This cannot be stated enough. The current uniforms are so god damn bad it makes me want to push children down stairs. It’s absolutely not fair that we finally get an awesome team and then they run around looking like circus clowns. WHAT THE FUCK. Dress appropriately or get fucked, assholes.

From everyone’s favorite Common Man Dan Cole comes:

“You heard it here first: the Vikings will not lose another game this season……”

I really don’t have anything to say about this, I just want to have it down as evidence so when the Vikings do lose another game we can all say YOU WERE WRONG DAN COLE. A man with two first names … don’t trust him!

Shanking around NFC North and home field advantage talk: It was a pretty simple week in the NFC North as the Packers and Lions jackaloped around on Thanksgiving morning, with the Packers winning handedly, and the Bears and Vikings squaring off in an adultery fest of epic proportions, with the Vikings winning handedly. All together, this swung the standings pretty significantly. We now find that those stupid fucking Packers are only three games behind record wise, although they’d have to really surpass the Vikings to win the division, since the Vikings have the head to head tie breaker after they STOMPED THEIR ASS twice this season. Not worried there. Kevin Seifert points out that the magic number for a division lock for the Vikings is two, a combination of wins and losses between the Vikings and Packers. This could happen as early as next week if the Vikings Vince Young the Cardinals, and the Packers lose to the Ravens on Monday night, both of which are entirely possible. Also of note? The Bears are only two games better than the Lions. AMAZING! More importantly, the watch for home field advantage throughout the playoffs starts in earnest for the Vikings THIS VERY EVENING as the Patriots face the Saints on Monday night. Hate the Patriots with as much of your black little hearts as you can, but tonight we are hoping that they go all Elin Nodgren on an SUV back windshield. That would put the Saints at 10-1, same as the Vikes, and open up a can of worms for tie breakers that I won’t get into because really, that will all change and work itself out by season’s end. I DO know that one, final option would be a coin flip though. That would be a fucking disaster. Let’s not plan on that, ok?

Some LOLVikes for the Bears game: Nothing really special here, I just thought that there were a bunch of hilarious photos taken during this game, and so I half assed try to make some more funny LOLVIkes. Did you make one yourself? Add it in the comments or list your captions there too!

A winning haiku for a Vikings win:

Enjoy the week, everyone. Remember, keep sending your comments, pictures, links and everything else to us for a truly hilarious and immersive interaction between blogger and reader! /gay. Also, we’ll try to update some t-shirts soon so that you can have something to purchase for someone you hate during the holiday season. Or a Bears fan. Whatever. They’re quality shirts though, I wear mine frequently! See you Friday for a prime time game preview against the Cardinals.

Holy Christ, am I full. I might have eaten an entire turkey and maaaayyyybe spent a full moon cycle in the bathroom checking Twitter and prepping myself for dessert. I tried something different this Thanksgiving. Most people try to starve themselves before the big meal of the day so that they are super hungry right before they eat, thinking that they’ll then eat a whole bunch of food to catch up on what they missed. Well, you’re a retard if you thought that, just ask any 15 year old girl suffering from image problems that spent their lunch break in the bathroom during junior high (or middle school, if you’re from some Podunk backwards town). You have to STUFF yourself like a week before the meal so that when you finally are able to eat you stomach has expanded like ice cream kids up there. Then you can double your normal amount of food on Thanksgiving Day and then just pick at leftovers until Monday. Best holiday ever? Best holiday ever.

Do you disagree? Write in and tell us why, or share what you did for Thanksgiving. Were there any special menu items? Any uncomfortable family conversations? Were you disgusted by the football games? Were you just too jacked up for the Bears game this Sunday to even think about shitty Lions games on Thursday? Tell us all about it, and we’ll post it in tomorrow’s Mail Dump in the game preview. Hit us at purplejesusdiaries@gmail.com, check out Twitter feed, leave a comment here, finger Facebook the shit out of us or send me a letter with left over pie. Schmanks. And please do so. I mean, I offered that awesome picture above, so the least you can do is humor me with a question.

We’re continuing a weekly feature where we fill space by bringing you the best and greatest links from around the interwebs in the last week. Some may have to do with Vikings football. Most probably won’t, though. And at the end, we’ll send you off with our song of the day. Hopefully, this will be a good tool to help you get through this terrible midweek slop fest so you can just go home and masturbate, before you smile knowingly to the in-laws at Thanksgiving dinner, of course.

Vikings Gab 2010 Free Agents: The Vikings Gab fellas do a great job of bringing the offseason to you during the regular season. My suspicion is that they enjoy the free agency period as much as any purple blooded football fan out there. Unless you’re a Ravens fan, because then you sign people like Matt Birk. Anyway, here is there run down of who the Vikings will have becoming free agents in 2010. Nowledge!

Mauer is MVP: MPR chimes in with their dry take on Mauerburns as MVP. It’s a bit sobering, because great, he won MVP but the Twins were made the Yankees bitch in the playoffs, rather predictably as well. And it still doesn’t erase that “foul” ball that Mauer ripped down the line. Stupid fucking umps.

Viking Age Seattle Recap: After every game, Viking Age does a “10 points” recap. Usually they are spot on and comprehensive. Dan Zinski does a nice job of cover many angles while also being a manageable and humorous rube without resorting to gay and dick jokes. Not so here!

Secret Tweet: I love this Twitter feed. Some of the things posted are pretty morbid. Like, “When I see a large window I wonder what it would be like to jump through it”. It would probably hurt, you fucking idiot. Wow, I love stupid people. It makes me feel good about myself to put others down, you know? /cries.

KSK LOLNFL Week 11: The KSK LOL pictures are obvious much better, poignant and funnier than anything that has ever been done here, so if that isn’t reason enough to go check this week’s sampling out, I don’t know what is. My favorite for the week? The Saints one, although I would have gone with something a little more drown-ey.

Vikings News and Notes: Does anyone pay for Viking Update premium content? I can’t imagine there is too much of anything there that would warrant such payments, but if it’s anything like their little news and notes section it could be! Just kidding, it’s not, because this free shit is enough to keep me reading.

Something Sexy: Because I like you and we all like boobs. Glorious, supple breasts that feel like bags of sand. Right?

Uh, was not anticipating that: Remember when the game opened up and there were three and outs, and punts, and penalties, sacks and a kind of a nervous feeling when the Seahawk defenders were tracking down Purple Jesus for minimal gains and Seattle prevented the Vikings from scoring for the first time in seven quarters of play and you were like “Damn, this game might be a nail biter”? Yeah, well, that shit got dropped faster than a ball in a game of armless catch. After the Vikings decided to quit slapping some dicks around on the sidelines during the first quarter, they came out in the second and went all Leonidas on Seattle, eventually pimp slapping them to a 35-9 victory at the Homerdome. To say shit got out of control is a bit of an understatement. You could see the fight leave the Seahawks after the third touchdown in the second quarter, and they laid back and took it like an aged whore in a bordello. It was pretty ugly. I’d say many people got vindicated in this game. The Vikings, definitely, for Houshmandzadeh and Burleson shitting all over the team and going to Seattle, Berrian for getting another touchdown in a rather disappointing and injury plagued season thus far, and even TarVar who came in and, dare I say it, didn’t look eye-forkingly terrible after his first series? Even he ended six for eight with 77 yards and a touchdown. When T Jackson is putting up those numbers, you know the Vikings have tasered someone into submission.

That attention whore Land Baron played ok: You know that dickface that caused untold amounts of heart ache for you for, like, your entire life? The Land Baron? The dastardly Silver Fox? That stupid fucking attention whore Brett Favre? Yeah, he played pretty well Sunday. That bastard continues to flap his dick in my face week after week, essentially saying “Come suck it, you coward, while I keep throwing four touchdowns a game”. Ok, Favre, you got me. You are owning this season. Favre ended up finishing the day 22-25 with 213 yards and four touchdowns. Apparently he leads the NFL now in games played where he’s thrown four touchdowns in a single game, beating out Dan Marino for that lofty record. I heard he also leads in the NFL in games played like a kid. Congrats, I guess, on leading in another Favrian stat. But more so, thanks for not making me hurt my wrists this year by shaking them vigorously at you, since you’ve only throwing three interceptions (thus far). I totally was anticipating many, many, many, many more than that from you, so this has been a pleasant surprise! Let’s just keep your mouth shut, continue playing effectively, win me a Super Bowl, and then retire in peace. Or come back and do the same thing, AND ONLY THE SAME THING, again next year. Yet, despite how well Favre played today, and despite the deep throating that the newspapers will write about his orgasmic stats day, I wasn’t the most impressed with him during the Seattle game. Instead, that notoriety goes to …

PJD’s Mushroom Stamp of Approval – The Vikings run defense: Did you look at the team stat sheets? I did, because I’m a SPORTS ENTHUSIAST! Actually, I did so because I figured I had to in order to justify this declaration, but the Vikings allowed FOUR total rushing yards to the Seahawks Sunday. FOUR. That’s less fingers than you have on one hand and one more testicle than I carry with me every day! To a professional football team, no less! That is ridiculous, and even more noticeable because Winfield, the team’s scrappy outside run stopping staple, was out for his fourth consecutive game. This bodes very well for us, my friends, that the Vikings were able to hold a team to such an obnoxious rushing stat even with star players out and their backups in pretty much the entire fourth quarter. Because of that, I give everyone that had a tackle on a rushing play this game the Mushroom Stamp of Approval. I’d go back and find who had tackles on each individual rush, but I don’t actually care that much. Also of significance in this category is the fact that when the defense stopped the run, the opposing team didn’t just start airing it out for 700 passing yards on the team like has happened in years past. That’s surprising as well, as Hasselbeck has thrown for like 400 yards this year in a game. Either the front four’s pressure is getting better (only one sack this game, but overall, obviously yes) or the defensive backfield is playing better. Either way, keep winning and I won’t care!

The Favre effect: I’m going to try and make an argument here that is not dick joke related, although bless your heart, I’ll try to work one in here somewhere. That’s what she said? Does this count already? Anyway … The most beneficial thing about having Favre on the team this year is the long term developmental effect that he’ll have on the younger players. Ok, so the wins are probably more important, really, but when this old hag finally eats it and leaves the team and the Vikings are stuck with TarVar, Sage or Colt McCoy at quarterback in the near future, they’ll have some nicely developed talent around themselves to work with, ala Benetration did in his rookie year with the Steelers. Think about it. Rice has had a breakout season. Shiancoe will end up with a career year. Harvin hits the pros running with Favre as his QB. These guys, both physically and mentally, have developed leaps and bounds this year with Favre’s assistance. Just look at what Rice did when TarVar came in. You think last year Sticky Rice would have made that challenged catch, or scored his touchdown with those moves? Sticky’s significant plays have increased with Favre and even without him in, you can see that now he just knows what to do with another quarterback. You can call it confidence, chemistry, or whatever other worthless term Peter King uses as a descriptor, but it’s almost palpable. The skill position players on offense have benefited from a veteran quarterback beyond belief, and when the Land Baron finally goes back to spitting tabaccy on the fields, these guys will still be here and know what to do without him. Unlike your mom. She has no idea what to do when I leave her bedroom.

Going back to being forgotten: I saw today that Seattle had Walter Jones and Lofa Tatupu out for the entire season. I also remembered that Aaron Curry, that stud linebacker from Wake Forest I believe, plays for the Seahawks. I totally had forgotten all of these things because Seattle fucking sucks. They are now 3-7 and four games back in the division. They’ve only won two more games than the Rams, and one more than the Lions. AND THEY HAVE A VETERAN TEAM TO BOOT. I love this shit even more because Jim Mora Jr. is their head coach, and he’s a cock bag. I don’t really know why. Some of it has to do with his face and some of it has to do with his cockbaginess and stubbornness to change his coaching styles when he was in Atlanta. So, really, this couldn’t have happened to a nicer person. Or team. Or city. I’m sure when the NFL was making this schedule months ago they considered the possibility of playing it in Seattle, until they realized that those hippies were playing a soccer game at Qwest field instead on Sunday. THIS IS AMERICA! WE PLAY FOOTBALL DIFFERENTLY HERE! And better, by the way. Regardless, I fully anticipate not hearing about Seattle until draft time in April now, and am very happy for that.

Tweet o’ the Game!

From mcge0100 and Michael in Maine comes commentary on Percy Harvin’s conversation with Pam Oliver prior to the game. I think I missed this because I was passed out somewhere until right at game time, so if anyone could elaborate on what was said, that’d be great. But here’s what they had to say:

“I’m willing to bet Percy Harvin nailed Pam Oliver REAL good.”

“Pam said every inch counts after the interview when she said he was 5′ 11″ and JB said 5′ 11″ and 3/4″”

I’m assuming that the 5’11” and ¾” was an innuendo to Percy’s cock? BOOSH. Pam Ward got banged. From APkrawczynski came:

“Vikings dance team trying to connect with the younger generation with routine set to 1920s bebop.”

I am assuming you were at the game? If they were wearing poodle skirts this music selection is fine by this younger generational member. Also, if they were topless that would have definitely helped. Finally, from Walllessfury comes my new favorite phrase to yell out in bed:

“Shiancoe Shyahtzee!!!!!!!”

Use it wisely, kids. The Shiancoe Shyahtzee is a life changer.

A quick shanking around the NFC North: The biggest news of the day, if you paid attention to Howie Long and Chris Berman between their respectively suicide inducing commercial plugs, was the game between two cunt punchingly bad 1-9 teams in the Browns and the Lions. While no one was watching, the Lions single handedly prevented the firing of another Ford Plant employee when young Matthew Stafford threw a touchdown pass with no time left on the clock to clinch the game for the Motor City Kitties. The Lions won, but unfortunately just handed the Browns the first pick in the 2010 draft. YOU STUPID FUCKS CAN’T EVEN LOSE RIGHT. If you beat the Packers on Thanksgiving though, all will be forgiven and you’ll become my second favorite team probably ever. Speaking of the most offensively named team in history, they managed to eek out a win against the 49ers at home as well, bringing their record to 6-4. Hope you enjoyed it though, Packer fans, because reports now indicate that Al Harris and Aaron Kampman are both out for the season with injuries. This, of course, makes me happier than this Picard picture and I fully anticipate you shitting the bed for the rest of the season. At least this gives me a reason to follow you still to, you know, see how low the Packers fall. If they’re lucky, they may even join the Bears as an abomination of a football team. I’ll hold most of my Bears hatred for now, as we still have to cover them twice more this season, somehow, but it was fantastic to watch Jay Cunt-face toss that pick to end the game aaaaand probably their season. Go suck a witch’s tit, you overrated asshats. As it stands, your Minnesota Vikings are sitting pretty at 9-1, a winning season guaranteed and a division title all but wrapped up. Next week, we’ll start focusing more on the home field advantage watch! YAY!

A winning haiku for a Vikings win:

Seahawks called “Uncle”

When the Vikes QB took field;

Tarvaris Jackson!

Enjoy the week everyone. PJD should follow a pretty normal schedule of posts this week, perhaps with just some posts being … posted … at odd hours. Regardless, stay here as we prepare you for another NFC North team fisting when we preview the Vikings versus the Bears this Friday! Stay cool cat.

Today is the last day to get your free download from macheist.com. There’s a set of applicatio

Today is the last day to get your free download from macheist.com. There’s a set of applications for your mac that won’t cost you a penny. Some of them I’ve already got, and some don’t fit my needs, so I didn’t download them. Depending on your needs you may want all 6 six of them.

Let’s take a look at each of these apps in short:
ShoveBox, WriteRoom, Twitterific, TinyGrab, Hordes of Orcs, and Mariner Write.

(1) ShoveBox – Think evernote on this one: well, kinda evernote. ShoveBox works on the same principal as evernote, that we have too much crap flooding our brains while we sit at the computer. From twitter, facebook, chat tools, websites, email…and now that google came out with Wave, there’s always something flashing or popping up on our screens. ShoveBox is designed to help you capture those small pieces of information that you want to revisit, but don’t have them time to get to at the time. Like, when you’re at work “working” and you aren’t supposed to be browsing CNN to see what’s happening in the world. Rather than forgetting it, the makers of this application want you to highlight the URL, or image, or chunk of text and throw it in your cardboard box (which sits in your menu bar) so you can go read it later. The trick, then, is to remember that you put things there. There is a ShoveBox app for your iPhone too, $3.99 in the app store, which will sync what you’ve captured. This application has some promise: the real trick is remembering that you put something in it. I suppose if you make a habit of checking it during your lunch hour or free time it won’t be an issue to remember. I haven’t played with it yet, but I hope it’s better than evernote which I’ve tried twice and uninstall twice.

(2) WriteRoom – I’m actually writing this entry in WriteRoom, and so far I’m enjoying it. WriteRoom also considers the fact that there’s usually too much crap on our screens and we’re frequently distracted by our computers while we’re working. The app designers are very clear about the purpose of the tool in this posting on their website:
“Is WriteRoom the right tool for you?

WriteRoom is designed for distraction free writing. If you are looking for a programmer’s text editor or tool to help you manage large writing projects then there are better choices. If you need syntax highlighting and command line integration try TextMate. If you need to manage large writing projects try Scrivener. If you just need to block out distractions and write then I think WriteRoom is a great choice.”

I appreciate that they aren’t trying to be all things to all people. This is a writing tool, not a designing, editing, layout tool. You write with it, and that’s it. Plain and simple. I’m able to focus well on what I’m writing as WriteRoom is launched in full-screen, thus eliminating all the other pieces that get in the way. It also auto-saves. Every 5 seconds, 10 seconds, all the way to “never”. That’s up to you, and it’s a good thing. My current color scheme is lime-green text on a black background, just like the old Apple IIE. It doesn’t get much more basic.

(3) Twitterific - A nice little program for you twitter account(s). I started my tweeting days with the free version of twitterific then changed over to tweetdeck. Not to say that this isn’t a good tool, it just didn’t quite “fit” my liking. Give it a shot though, it might suit your desires.

(4) – TinyGrab – A simple-to-use screen capture program. It doesn’t operate any differently than your built-in Mac OS X screen capture tool, except that in pushing command-shift-4 and doing the screen capture the software automatically creates a link to the images to be posted and shared with your friends. It’s not one of the applications I downloaded because I don’t need an extra piece of software to launch to preform the functions that I already can use with my OS. Besides most twitter apps will automatically create a URL for you if you tweet an image. Beyond that using google wave or email will get the image to someone just as easily and sending them a link.

(5) Hordes of Orcs – Ummm…I don’t get it. I’m not a gamer, not will I ever be one. There’s something about building towers and defending a kingdom or some such thing. I’m not going to do it any justice so just check the website.

(6) Mariner Write – While I didn’t download this program, it’s description puts it somewhere between WriteRoom and MicroSoft Word. It is capable of writing and reading word files, so if you don’t have Microsoft Office it may be worth a look…at least for the next few hours while it’s free.

I’m not exactly an authority on Mac software, but I can talk about what I’ve used and what it’s done for me. Some of these are worth the installation and some aren’t so much. Anyways, for the time being they’re free, so it can’t hurt to give them a shot, so take a journey over to MacHeist and take a look.

Rumors have been flying since last Friday night’s game that there is still a contingent of players inside of the Vikings locker room who feel that quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is the best option to lead the team, even since Brett Favre has signed. Some have brushed these comments off as pure speculation, stating that winning will eventually be the only thing that matters to this team, but PJD was lucky enough to gain access to Winter Park recently and observe which players are stirring the loins of mutiny behind the scenes …

Winter Park, Eden Prairie, Minnesota after a long day of practice …

Bernard Berrian is sitting at a table in the facilities cafeteria, eating some bacon strips and watching some Monday Night Football when he gets a buzz on his smart phone. He opens it up and goes to Twitter …

vshiancoe: @b_twice, we got 2 tlk about this qb situation. tj or bf??? tj looked lights out Fri night. Check out my pic! LULZ!!

Berrian smiled, knowing that his friend and fellow twitter fiend, Visanthe Shiancoe, has been having some of the same thoughts that he has had. While Tarvaris Jackson has had an up and down career, and as much as Berrian would love to catch deep bombs in single coverage from a Hall of Fame quarterback like Brett Favre, he’s also hesitant to anoint Favre as anything less than a single busted nut of what he used to be. Tarvaris, on the other hand, had a fantastic training camp, great preseason game with the starters, and pulls the youngest – and tightest – ass out of all of the players. The team needs to support their quarterback, and seemingly that would be Favre. But who gives the team a better chances to win?

Berrian Tweets back …

b_twice: @vshiancoe I hear ya mayn. Who gives us a better chances to win? We need 2 go 2 tha SB home boy. BF or TJ? TJs got a cannon 4 an arm …

Berrian is hesitant. Starting a movement for support for one player or another is risky. If he and Shiancoe support Jackson and Favre finds out, what does that do to Brett? He came to the team out of retirement because he felt that he could help the Vikings win it all, like he was the last piece of the puzzle. He can’t ride the bench for the season, can he? And while Favre’s record isn’t debatable, his dedication to the team is and Berrian knows that has some of the players worried. Jackson is going into his fourth year with the team and has always been there for training camp, the bowling outings and the sex parties at the 22nd Street Station. What about Favre? Nowhere to be seen. Berrian’s phone buzzes again …

vshiancoe: @b_twice I know! He puts a lzer hole through my chest big enuff 4 a cat 2 throw through! Who can convince coach 2 start him??

Berrian sits back in his chair. Who could convince Coach Childress that the players would all feel more comfortable with Jackson starting at quarterback? He knows the receivers tendencies and has been in this offense for three years. Sure, Favre could teach this offense, but he also doesn’t understand this team. There’s a difference. If there was only one person that could explain this all to Coach Childress in a civil, calm and convincing manner, than maybe the team could settle on a quarterback before the regular season and have it be the quarterback that the team supports, instead of the one that wears a chesticle supporter.

b_twice: @vshiancoe don’t worry about it. I’ll talk 2 someone who knows coach well & will convince him to start TJ. Consider it taken care of! LOL!

The next day …

Jared Allen: Hey coach, we got to talk about something, real civil like, like men, men who have testicles and muscles, not squirrely mustaches. Got a moment?

Coach Childress: Shit …

To Be Continued …!

Oh Twitter… how can I be expected to dumb down my epic exciting life to fit into 140 character

Oh Twitter… how can I be expected to dumb down my epic exciting life to fit into 140 characters!?!

Yes, we all ask ourselves this question when pondering the idea of getting a twitter. I first created one to “follow”(to quote Ellen “and I still don’t know where we’re going”) a few of my friends and celebs . Literally there were only 3 or so accounts I had heard of. But I, like most attempting to deal with the advances in modern technology, was reluctant to actually tweet. I mean really guys, who the hell cares what exactly you are doing this very moment? And say you were to do something worth updating the world about, why would you pause to tweet about it?

Well, I’ll just come right out and say it…. there is no answer to these questions. Yeah yeah, you were right, give yourself a pat on the back and the ol’ grin-and-wink. Now let’s move on.

Once you get past your smarty pants attitude (that’s right, I’m insulting you), you will come to realize the overwhelming power it has. The idea that people actually care about what you have to say begins to appeal to you, and your tweets/updates aren’t just about your lame life but rather sharing common interests, and, and…. And before you know it, you’ve fallen in love. You get excited when a celeb RT’s you, or when your favorite “underdog” of the site PMs and follows you. You love knowing that you’re whoever you want to be on the Internet. Whatever you choose to be out there people will believe. Sure there’ll be up’s and down (such as loosing half your followers every month due to the site’s spam cleaning — not that I speak from experience), but after a good 6 months you realize it’s a wonderful creative outlet and you’re not afraid to tell people that.

So the consensus? Beware. It’s most definitely an addiction and it’s not going away anytime soon. Once you get hooked to Twitter, there is no limit to the over-exposure of your life on the web. Be prepare to fork up 10 bucks for that Twitterific pro app on your iPhone, or for that web hosting fee for your new ”hit web show”. In my opinion, twitter is for us teens :P

Here are some of my favorite tweet-ers:

Mememolly (also a youtuber, interesting words of wisdom)

Sims (Not the game the guy, Andrew Sims for all the fangirls out there, he’s “the man” of every fandom)

CNN (for the liberals)

Foxnewsradio (for the conservitives

Aplusk (Ashton Kutcher, currently #1 followed)

JohnCleese (“that Monty Python guy”)

and MileyCyrus (no seriously, it’s pretty hilarious to hear her obnoxious whining sometimes)

Be very afraid…

Well not really, the only negative outcome of the Twitpocalypse was that some people couldn’t send Tweets through Twitteriffic for about a day.

The Twitpocalypse happened due to the fact that Twitter reached 2,147,483,647 Tweets, which meant that the unique identification number associated with Twitter started going into negative numbers which freaked out some third part applications such as Twitterific. All is better now though.

What does this mean? Well, Twitter is reaching a point where so much is happening on it! The Iranian elections have famously been broadcast using Twitter, and well, a lot of people are getting onto Twitter. Maybe you should to.

(This also means that some people care too much about Twitter to call this the “Twitpocalypse“)

Maybe you would like to read other things that I have written about Twitter if you have read this far…

No, they’re not going through a Britney Spear’s meltdown. It’s for fashion. Girls like the lovely Carmen Electra and Cassie opted to shave one side, while Rihanna rocks a mohawk. Demi Moore’s hubby posted a photoshopped picture of her with a mohawk that created some twitterific buzz. Solange Knowles took the plune shaving it all off as did Kanye West’s main squeeze, Amber Rose.

This is Visanthe Shiancoe. You probably know him best as that tight end for the Minnesota Vikings that you were so frustrated with in his first year after he continually dropped balls. And he couldn’t catch the football either (Zing!). Now, he’s more adept at both, making television highlights with all of his assets, football and otherwise.

This is a picture of Visanthe Shiancoe that Vikings wide receiver Sidney Rice posted on his Twitter account last night. For some reason, Shiancoe is holding a pig in a store. Is there some understandable context that I can provide for this picture? Realistically, no. If I were to guess, and believe it or not this would be my pure speculation, I would say that Shiancoe was with Rice as they went to go purchase some RAW (seen behind them) at a store. It was then that a pig burst out of a container on the lower levels of the shelving and starting squealing and running around the store, most likely defecating all over the floor as well. Because pigs are filthy, but taste delicious when cooked right. Luckily, Sidney and Visanthe have been training pretty hard all off season and they had just enough field vision and agility to predict the path of the wild pig before cornering it near a rack of bacon in the refrigerated section of the store.

But what was Shiancoe going to do? Put the pig back in its broken box and have it spring free again on some unsuspecting customer? That would be stupid. Kick it out the door and let it run wild? Of course not. Looking at that pig trapped in the corner, slowly wetting itself, I’m sure Visanthe saw a glimmer of his self in those squealing, delicious bacony eyes and knew he couldn’t treat this wild, lost animal with anything but the utmost kindness. So here he is, cradling the frightened animal with the strength and support of a gentle giant, convincing himself to carry him home, share his RAW with him, and treat him like his own son.

Until he can butcher the pig for bacon. God, I fucking love bacon.

Something strange happened when I updated my preferred twitter iphone app ‘Twitterific’.

Something strange happened when I updated my preferred twitter iphone app ‘Twitterific’.

The default twitter photo application changed from www.twitpic.com to www.yfrong.com

Here’s the problem: As a customer (albeit non paying) I am hugely invested in twitpic as an application. I already have well over 100 photos of my digital life, ideas, observations and witty comments live in twitpic. Whenever I take a new pic and post it to twitter I’m hoping people will browse through some of my other cool photos, ideas and adventures. My personal brand depends on a consistent distribution channel. Which in this case was and ‘is’ twit pic. Not Yfrog. I can’t have a ‘fragmented effort’.

Once I found out I could change the preferences for pics in the twitterific app, I did so immediately. Even though there was some effort and research involved. I did this because I am ‘invested in Twitpic’. I don’t want to start again. I don’t want to lose my old pics. I don’t want to lose my compound effort. I don’t want my digital stuff to get lost. I don’t want to lose my fans. The switching costs are too high for me.

The question for start ups and webpreneurs is how do we get our customers invested in our stuff?

The Twitpocalypse is similar to the Y2K bug in 2000 where a function, then the clock function, was not completely understood before building it. Back then, clocks were to be reset on arrival of the year 2000, back to being read as the year 1900, causing confusion to computing systems. Now, instead of a clock function from Y2K, we have a ‘tweet function’ with twitter. Whats the trouble? There’s a certain number of tweets handled by the system. It is a set number (the maximum number of a 32-bit signed integer) that will cause problems. Simply, the allowed or cut off number is over 2 billion tweets. It’s set to happen June 12 5pm EST which is earlier than expect, so they can fix before the weekend traffic. From doing research as of June 13 update, the unique identifier associated to each tweet has now exceeded 2,147,483,647. This is over the limit and yet I’m still tweeting news to my buddies, unaffected. Maybe they successfully fixed it as a only a few apps were affected from my research. Reports are not readily available as this event takes place behind doors & low key. I bet an official release will be made Mon. or Tues.

Updated: Twitter released statement Jun12:

“As planned, we averted the twitpocalypse with a deploy this afternoon,” says Twitter co-founder Biz Stone.

Tweetie on Iphone App (updated: returns back to Apple iStore fixed of errors & available for purchase)

Twitterrific, is completely broken right now due to API errors — at least the iPhone version. Some reports have said TweetDeck is facing similar problems. – Tech Crunch

I have previously wrote an article about the popularity of the web-based mini blogging social networ

I have previously wrote an article about the popularity of the web-based mini blogging social network that has taken off in the past two years.

Briefly, Twitter gives you 140 characters to tell your “followers” what you are doing. even the text box at the top of the page where you input your mini blog asks,
“What are you doing?”

An odd conception to say the least but it’s addicting, informative and incredibly fun. Bringing many people together whether it be celebrities, friends, colleagues, or even organisations such as news networks, companies, sports teams, Twitter is there to give you all the information you could possibly want. Follow who you like and allow others to follow you and this ingenious way of communicating brings the technical world that bit closer.

As this is a blog about accessibility, I am going to discuss a few different ways you can get your daily fix of tweeting. First of all you can visit the The twitter Website and tweet directly from the web. On the whole this is a fantastic and obvious way to tweet although some of the features are hard to do with voice over, such as retweet, direct message without going through a whole lot of links and pages to do so. Following and unfollowing a person is relatively straight forward with the find friend feature on the website with no major issues once you’ve found who you want to follow and hit the follow button, you’re then “following” that person and proceed to receive tweets from that person. Unfollowing is just as straight forward, go to that person’s profile and hit block and an option to continue to follow or unfollow is given. Very straight forward and uncomplicated.

Another web-based twitter client is Accessible twitter which as it says gives the users more options that the regular twitter does not. The site is laid out so navigation short cut keys used by a screen reader user are plentiful. The ability to jump from one part of the page to another works well and there is a really cool feature that warns you how many characters you have left after a certain point. Under each tweet, options to reply, retweet, send a direct message or make a favourite are listed making it easier than ever to do whatever functions you desire.

Even though accessible twitter has a search option, I could find no direct way to search for friends like you can on the regular twitter website. Maybe I’m missing it altogether and I do assume that the search option aids in searching for people too but if you have a common user name you’re looking for, it might get a little tedious to search through all of the results. Again, I may have missed that particular option but it is not obvious on the home page.

Next I am going to talk about the first twitter application I used on the mac. Twitterific. This application is clean, straight forward and completely accessible. After downloading, enter your twitter user name and password, set the options like how often you want it to check for new tweets, the noise it will make when new tweets arrive, etc. The tweets appear in a table and you always start where you left off in the previous session. Replying, sending direct messages can all be done from the twitterific application. However, that is where your functionality pretty much ends. The only things you can do is add as favourite and refresh tweets or mark all tweets as read.

As I said earlier, the functions that are popular on the accessible twitter site include retweet which was not including in twitterific.

Enter Syrinx.

Syrinx like Twitterific is a desk top twitter client and has a bunch of features that are non existent in twitterific. Retweeting is just one of them. It has everything Twitterific has and more. It was not too accessible when I first looked at the application But after emailing the developer, MRRSoftware, a few days later an update was released and the inaccessible components had been fixed. The tweet list now has the names of the tweeters before the tweets which didn’t happen previously. A cool feature that it does have that you can follow and unfollow people right in the application. Syrinx has all the possibilities you would want from a twitter application. You are able to search within the app and add favourites, all the things people would love to do. The book mark feature works so you can book mark the newest tweet, allowing you to stay after the point of the tweets you have already read.
Another feature it possesses that Twitterific does not which is vital for someone like me who loves to share articles I’ve read/written ETC is the URL shortening feature. With other clients, it has been implemented but in the accessibility ones it has not until Syrinx. It’s a great feature and it works all from your keyboard.

The only feature it currently does not have is trending topics that other inaccessible twitter clients boast about. But who knows what the future will bring? When you have developers willing to make an app accessible, anything is possible.

So personally, if you don’t want to have safari open all the time and you need alerting when a friend has tweeted, go and download Syrinx. It’s fun, friendly and above all accessible. Although twitterific is good in the sense that it runs purely in the background but just hide Syrinx if you don’t want it up front all of the time. Both applications are great with pure use of the keyboard and both implement short cuts so it all works very well. But now I have Syrinx, I can’t see me going back.

This is the last post about Twitter for a while after “5 reasons to Tweet” and “Ho

This is the last post about Twitter for a while after “5 reasons to Tweet” and “How to use Twitter“.

One of Twitter’s great advantages is that it can be used in many different forms. Yes, you can Tweet from the Twitter website. But, there are also tools that allow you to Tweet from many other areas. These take the form of both Desktop clients and mobile clients. You can read about some of them here and here.

These other methods of sharing and receiving content are one area where Twitter really stands out from Facebook. Here are 4 ways that 3rd party clients can benefit you.

1. Manage multiple accounts

Twitter can be used for many different purposes, you may be managing (or want to manage) your account as well as maybe a church account. Instead of logging onto the website numerous times, 3rd party clients allow you to quickly Tweet multiple accounts. Simple.

2. Receive Tweets as they come

This could be seen as anti-productive, but being able to stay up to date with those that you follow could be ideal, depending on your context. Having a desktop client running in the background allows you to receive Tweets as they come.

3. Tweet on the go

There are Twitter applications for a lot of phones out there, most notably the iPhone. People expect updates regularly on Twitter (which isn’t always the case on Facebook) and by using mobile 3rd party clients you can.

4. Pretty up your Tweets

This ones less important than the others, but 3rd party clients tend to look better than the Twitter website, you may miss customised backgrounds, but you can get your Tweets in a slick looking interface.

Hope you enjoyed these insights into Twitter. If you are curious, I use Tweetie as a desktop client and I use Twitterific on my iPhone. Why not follow my Tweets @calumhenderson.
