Despite two cuts titled “Crazy Night” & “Supaman High” that would have suited better to not appear on the album, when Untitled bangs, it bangs brilliantly! R. Kelly’s ninth studio solo project, Untitled, reaffirms and again establishes that within the realm of contemporary R&B, R. Kelly is top chef and cooks up the best dishes music fans crave and implore. The second song “Exit” is a fascinating arrangement and melodious feast, likened to anything I’ve ever heard and one of the most creative songs I’ve heard in years. The next song “Echo” is orchestrated like a scene from a movie, that climaxes when the featured female star yodels to R. Kelly’s “echoes”.  The song is masterfully crafted with the right dose of humorous sexuendo and musical impressiveness. The album then moves on to signature “raunch” with the next two tracks titled fittingly, “Bangin’ the Headboard” and “Go Low”, with the latter having been leaked from the 12 Play: 4th Quarter album (canceled) last year.

Kelly continues to slick the pavement, and smooth the edges with “Whole Lotta Kisses”, then lets new comers like Trey Songz & Chris Brown know that “Elephants kill flies” on “Like I Do”.

After a session with Keri Hilson on “Number One”, “Kells” tells us he’s in love with a DJ with “I Love the DJ”, a Europop crossover tune sure to increase Kelly’s listeners. Kelly now ventures into 70’s style disco funk, with the salaciously delightful toe-tapping “Be My #2″, another lyrically playful and humorous “two-stepper” that references MJ with the line “But that don’t mean you still don’t rock my world”. Next is “Text Me”, a hip play on today’s virtual foreplay that is vintage R. Kelly. “Elsewhere” isn’t necessarily a bad song, but one I feel he overcooked and overworked (no pun intended), and may have sounded better with someone else singing it.

The last song “Pregnant” is significant not just for its appearances, but for its connection to Quincy Jones’ smash hit “The Secret Garden”, released in 1990 off of Jones’ Back on the Block album, and features Barry White. Could R. Kelly be suggesting that he is today’s Barry White of R&B? For much of the the 1970s and 80s (and even 90s), Barry White dominated R&B. While for the most of the 90s and the last decade, the same can said about Robert Kelly. Quincy Jones broke new grounds in 1990 by making a song that suggestively speaks about a man wanting to have sex with a woman.

I love the sound of this song. Love Tyrese. This is pretty old stuff from 90s. But as we all know music never gets old.

SMH who the hell told them that was sexy???? R. Kelly, Robin Thicke, The Dream and Tyrese all got my cha cha bunked up if they think that singing to me while sex is going to make me over flow. I’m sorry but that is a sure free way to dry me up ASAP. But thats just me.

What the heck is this coonery?

Have you heard this madness? So R.Kelly got together with a “writing team” and “wrote” this song, “Pregnant”. Then he went through his little black book of R&B singers who’s careers hadn’t been affected by the herpes that we’re calling music these days and found Tyrese. So he called Baby Boi up and had him come over and sing this little diddy with him. Then, oh oh, to make matters worse, he dragged Robin Thicke and The Dream into the gutter on the remix, as if T-Pain and Trey Songs weren’t available to skank up this song properly.

Here are some of my favorite lines:

from Mr. Kelly: “Shes more than a mistress enough to handle my business, now put that girl in my kitchen. Girl you make me wanna get you pregnant.” – Now if that’s not a pick up line, I don’t know what is. “Ooo baby, you are so cute, I just want to impregnate you and put you in my kitchen cooking my meals and rollin’ my blunts.” Like…have our standards as women dropped that low that we’re ok with this?

from Tyrese: “Tell me what your name is. I can make you famous. We can pop champagne and get right down to sexing…” Tyrese, you can’t even make yourself famous. So how are you making some random lil’ ho famous, unless you plan on making a sex tape, and normally you don’t do that to chicks you’re trying to knock up, unless you’re on some super grimy bastard logic.

Like, when did getting pregnant become fun and sexy? R. Kelly didn’t say ” Ooo girl I want to start a family.” He just wants to get her pregnant, and then put her in his kitchen…that doesn’t sound like a family at all. The whole idea behind this is destructive. I mean, I was troubled when Jagged Edge sang “We ain’t getting no younger, we might as well do it” and totally made getting married something you do just because…well…there’s no reason not to. Now we’re taking something so serious, that needs to be taken seriously but just isn’t anymore, like making babies and creating live, and we’re turning it into a pick up line.

I can’t even post a link to this song because I don’t want to pass this virus on to ‘nere other person. We need to wake up and protect our children from this nonsense. And really, we need to do better as a people.

Now i’m not tryna be rude but this song from R.Kelly may steal a march on many of the contenders for the worst song this year. The first line must be one of the most awkwardly unromantic in music history.

‘Girl you make me wanna get you pregnant’ will be a huge disappointment to every teacher who suffered humiliation teaching young generations sex education.

R. Kelly is urinating on those teachers with this abomination about how he’s usually a player but met this one girl that he wants to ‘knock up.’

The girl must be delighted, R. wants to get her pregnant because she has a ‘unbelievable booty’, is ‘the sweetest girl in the world’ and ‘on top of that she’s a cutie.’

Not much thought given to the child that will result from the pregnancy process but then this is supposed to be romantic, and if you find children sexy you’ll probably end up in court….oh.*

We can extrapolate from this song that R.Kelly believes -

1. You should have children with total strangers, nothing can go wrong.
2. There’s no need for contraceptives as long as the girl is a ‘cutie’ with a ‘unbelievable booty’
3. That he can fly, touch the sky whilst thinking about it every night and day.

None of these are true, and it’s a terrible, terrible song.

*R.Kelly was acquitted, just like O.J Simpson.

Seriously, I was on the fence about even listening to R.Kelly’s new album, “Untitled”, much less doing a review about it. However, I must say that despite my opinion of his personal life, musically he’s still got it!! From the first track, I was impressed. You can definitely tell he has created music with the present sound, but you still get that vintage R.Kelly speak-singing. Someone told me, the album makes you say, “Trey Songz who?” The album overall has a good amount of “repeat worthy songs” and can definitely get the ladies feeling like they need make a call to their new, present, or old boo for some lovin’.
