Last night was the monthly Third Thursday open house at GoodWood (1428 U Street NW, Washington, DC), a fantastic antique store on U Street in northwest DC. It is one of those places that you step into and feel like you’ve discovered a happy little secret. They specialize in 19th and 20th century furnishings and cater to the growing younger, hipper crowd in the neighborhood. This means the pieces lean towards the last century and are at least in part selected to fit within a budget of those less established shoppers. This technique has been working as the husband and wife team, Dan & Anna Kahoe, have been running the business for 6 years. Anna says she further caters to the wants and needs of the area by loading up on antique chests – perfect for multi-tasking as hidden storage and a coffee table or bench in the smallest of studio apartments, and mirrors, which are easy accent pieces for any space.

Every Third Thursday they have an open house from 5pm til close. Last night, Tom from First Vine, a DC-based online wine store, was there to share samples. I tasted a fabulous sparkling wine and a lovely chianti which Tom hand-picked as he goes directly to the source to choose his inventory, France, Italy, etc. Because he doesn’t use a distributor, he’s able to keep his prices very reasonable. First Vine has free delivery in DC, delivers to VA and will ship to other states that allow it.

So if you’re lucky enough to be in DC, check out local treasures GoodWood and First Vine!

Special discounts, cocktails, snacks, and socializing can be on your agenda for tonight rather than a typical Happy Hour after work. From 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., MidCityLive! hosts Third Thursdays on U Street. Enjoy special discounts in countless boutiques. Third Thursdays is a great activity with girlfriends that only rolls around once a month! Some of my favorite stores include Circle for carrying the Iron Army denim line, and Pop, which always has cute dresses and unique styles.
