As a one of host cities for the euro 2008, Klagenfurt sees tourism without precedent this summer. Which best manner of escaping the crows it is there than the hiring of car? Said the goodbye of `to the packed trains and the buses of with the far-program and the hello of `to freedom and relieve them. To rent a car with Klagenfurt not only enables you to see splendid attractions of the city, it also enables you to explore the countryside marvelously scenic at a rate/rhythm which falls entirely on you. What follows is a guide of the city and its many fine attractions.

Mini guide of Klagenfurt:

Klagenfurt is the cpital area of Carinthia of Austria and was selected to be one of host cities of the 2008 European championships. These last years, Klagenfurt saw an increase defined in tourism due in any small portion of the prolongation of the routes by carriers of low cost such as Ryanair.

Things with See/Do with Klagenfurt

Klagenfurt is completely a compact small town, making it explored by the foot easily. Neuer Platz is a great place to be started. Here Lindwurm emblematic of the city is guaranteed to draw your attention. The monument was built in XVIme century, to represent a local legend about a dragon which was massacred exchanges some for the town of Klagenfurt.

A stroll around Europapark of the city, where the peacocks pavanent their substance and the old men study thoroughly more chess-boards, conduit at one afternoon of relaxation. While waiting, the vultures of culture will not want to miss outside on Gustav absorbing Mahler Kompanierhuschen, a museum devoted to the gifted local author.

Consumption outside with Klagenfurt:

To dine outside in Klagenfurt is a guaranteed feast, no matter what your budget or preferences. While downtown it is worth to take the traditional price such as cheese pellets of the Kasnudeln, Saure Suppe, a dish of soup or seafood enchants like pike, the pole and eel.

If you rather something a little more familiar, you will be happy to learn that Klagenfurt also asserts an excellent range of the international restaurants, where you will always find something to make conceal a belly of rumbling.

Voyages/events of day in Klagenfurt:

Let Klagenfurt act as a base of which to explore the astounding Austrian landscape. For the final experiment of hiring of car of Klagenfurt, be sure to take an order around Wrthersee, stopping with far along the manner in pretty Prtschach, Velden AM Wrthersee and Maria Wrth. If snow is more your scene, you will find the winter sports resort with charm of Gerlitzen to be in the ordering of one Klagenfurt time. While waiting, the drug addicts of adrenalin will adore the valley close to Soca at the Slovenien border, where the stone throats with lime and the rivers of jade green provide the excellent range to increase and transport white water.

Klagenfurt is the place of appointment of host centre for a certain number of sporting events throughout the year including/understanding the Large Slam of volley ball of beach, the contest of iron man and the marathon of night. The other complaint of the city to the fame is its statute as a host city for the 2008 European championships of football.

The Champions of Europe

It’s been more than a month since Euro 2008 ended. Did it live up to expectations? Unquestionably, yes. It was “the best Euro tournament ever”, according to Arsene Wenger. Perhaps surprisingly, most people agreed. Euro 2008 really was something special. It not only dispelled the worries many purists had regarding the quality of international football, but also put to rest the widely held belief that a team could not win a major tournament in this day and age by playing ‘total football’.

What is probably most satisfying about this tournament is that the teams which actually went out to entertain the public by playing attractive football, invariably beat the negative sides – the ones that set out to kill the game and set up camp in front of goal. The French and Italians payed the price for their negativity, while the Spanish and Dutch impressed the world with their attacking football, increasing their fanbase to a large extent. Football is, after all, the Beautiful Game.
Teams got exactly what they deserved.

Tournaments are remembered for their ‘magic moments’, and in this regard, Euro 2008 did not disappoint. From Pepe’s astonishing 60 yard run on the opening day that cut through the Turkish defense like a knife through warm butter, to Torres’ tournament winning goal that dumbfounded both Jens Lehmann and Philip Lahm, Euro 08 has had some spectacular moments. A few that come to mind include Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s stunner that lit up an otherwise mediocre match against Greece; the Dutch decapitulation of the ageing Italian defence; The Turkish comebacks; Gianluigi Buffon’s penalty save that kept Italy in the tournament; the ‘mad minute’ , which saw Arjen Robben score from a seemingly impossible angle just a minute after Thierry Henry scored at the other end; Arda Turan’s last minute goal to eliminate Switzerland in the midst of a torrential downpour; Michael Ballack’s 30 yard belter that rejuvenated the Germans; the heart-stopping shootout between Italy and Spain – one could go on and on.

Switzerland and Austria proved to be excellent hosts. The atmosphere was lively, the fans – especially the Dutch – were in full voice, and incidents of hooliganism were almost non-existant. People attribute this to England’s absence from the tournament, but that’s being very harsh.

There was ofcourse much more to the tournament, including a couple of downsides, however all that is irrelevant now, for 20 years down the line, people will remember Euro 2008 as one of football’s most memorable spectacles.

I had boldly predicted earlier that Spain wouldn’t progress far, and how wrong I’ve been. They’ve silenced all doubters, answered every question asked of them, and no-one, not even their final opponents Germany, can deny that they were deserving champions. The traditional under-achievers have come of age. When Iker Casillas lifted the trophy that night, you could sense a shift of power in Europe. The much maligned Luis Aragones won over his critics, and though he is no longer at the helm of the Spanish national team, the foundation has been built for a period of Spain domination. The World Cup beckons.

With the first year of Sweet Flag all played out, it only leaves the announcement of the winners of our recent birthday competition.

To the lucky winners a copy of Boom Blox(Wii) or UEFA EURO 2008(PS3) were their rewards. Here are the winning entries in full:

Winners of a copy of Boom Blox(Wii)

Question 1: EA celebrated what anniversary last year? 25 years

Question 2: Come up with a new blox type for the Boom Blox game. Your blox can’t have any element from any original blox & has to be unique from the ones in the released game. No copies please. Describe how your blox would interact within the Boom Blox game.

mbp came through with a great answer to question 2 in this set, showing that putting your imagination to work goes a long way in exploring a game mechanic, even one you may not have played:

“A “Hydra Block” when you hit it it divides into two blocks. The new blocks flash for a limited time and if you hit them while they are flashing they disappear. After a short while however the flashing stops and the new blocks turn into Hydra Blocks themselves. Of course a player who is too slow will end up with an exponentially increasing number of Hydra blocks so some limit is probably required. Perhaps a simple cap on the total number of hydra block will suffice – no new hydra block will be formed if there are more than “n” hydra blocks already on the map.”

The second winner in this question set, winning a copy of Boom Blox is Ed:

“how about a block that changes all the blocks with negative points values to positive, and vice versa”

Nice idea that could easily swing games in Boom Blox right down to the wire.

Congratulations to both Ed & mbp! Your games will be in the post this week.

Winners of a copy of UEFA EURO 2008

Question 1: EA celebrated what anniversary last year? 25 years

Question 2: Name your best eleven players from the teams that qualified for this years finals. Finals meaning from the last 16, NO ENGLAND PLAYERS!

Only 2 players from any 1 team allowed in your eleven.

Some great teams were drawn up here & the competition ran until after the last kick of the ball at Euro 2008, sadly no one took advantage of that.

Also the only 2 players from any 1 team allowed rule was over looked on at least 1 occasion, automatically disqualifying that entry. Here are the winners in full:

Once again Ed came up with a winning answer with his best 11:

Buffon
Boulahrouz, Chivu, Pepe
Ronaldo, Xavi, Arshavin, Nihat, Van Der Vaart
Villa, Podolski

Sarah’s star 11 had some a mixture of great, if short lived, performances from the tournaments big names with a strikingly odd inclusion of Gallas:

Van der Sar,
Zambrotta, Lahm, Gallas

EA Games inadvertently enters the Ireland-Northern Ireland thing by apparently neglecting to realize that the two regions are, in fact, sovereign states with different national anthems. But more than that, as Wired correctly notes, the correct national anthem of Northern Ireland is God Save the Queen and the country is largely pro-Britain. One of Amhrán na bhFiann’s verses, which isn’t included in the official Irish national anthem, refers to the “Saxon foe.” The chorus, which is the official anthem, refers to the Brits as “despots.”

The latter appears in UEFA Euro 2008 instead of God Save the Queen. Oops.

The company has apologized.
