I have noticed Volkswagen Beetle has been dragged up onto the big screen all over the world. The film ‘Austin Powers, The Spy Who Shagged Me’ used the car because it had a very 60’s vibe! Not only that but the Beetle has made quite the impact on the animated screen in ‘The Simpsons’, ‘American Dad’ and ‘Family Guy’, all  of which have depicted the car in their series., even animated Mr Bean drives a version of the Beetle, and Ugly Betty. I’m not too sure why this car is so popular, but i do think it has something to do with the unusual shape of the Volkswagen Beetle, Aberdeen is swarming with these little bug cars and too right, they are beautiful, extremely spacious inside and completely unique. They can be a pain to park but just takes practice.

Chris Gorham ha twitteado hace unos días que está de regreso en el set de Ugly Betty y que “el bebé de Ana Ortiz es bellisimo.”

Esto hace que nos preocupemos.

No a causa del bebé, pero algunas fuentes han estado anunciando sobre el destino de Betty: que el final puede estar cerca y los fantasmas(pretendientes) de Betty podrían estar de vuelta.

A pesar de Gorham se ha aclarado a través de Twitter, “no estoy de vuelta en Ugly Betty. “Solo visito a mis  amigos(actores) de ugly betty”, según las fuentes, puede ser muy pronto …

Varias Fuentes dicen que ABC ha estado trabajando arduamente en todas las  formas para tratar de salvar Ugly Betty (se incluiye la posibilidad de moverlo  de los viernes a  los miércoles), sin embargo, si el rating no mejora de aqui a unos meses, es posible que Betty se cancele en mayo. Según los expertos, esto es sólo el comienzo, y hay un resurgimiento creativo en las obras que incluye se incluye una Betty  viajera, en donde realiza un viaje a las Bahamas y ostentosos con invitados Christie Brinkley y Shakira y un grande,  además de proximos fabulosos episodio de la semana de moda se centran en Amanda (Becki Newton) y Betty (America Ferrera), por no hablar de su triángulo amoroso actual con Matt. ¿Que va a pasar ahi?

OK, you are not going to freaking believe this.  I know I didn’t believe it when I first got the email from the assistant set decorator of “Ugly Betty”, asking if they could use some of the Fobots for set decoration.  Yes, that’s right, the Fobots are gonna be on the TV!   Here’s what happened…

As many of you may know, several of my robots were featured in the November “Anthropologie” catalog.  Apparently, they caught the eye of the set decoration team for “Ugly Betty”, who emailed to ask if they could rent some for one episode, to line the shelves of “The Tube” (see picture).  But shortly after the initial excitement, the doubts took over.  No way, I thought–someone is messing with me.  My friends, knowing how much I like this show, are pulling my leg, or worse–someone is trying to get me to send them a bunch of Fobots for free by claiming to be connected to Ugly Betty.  But if this is a scam, it’s INCREDIBLY well-organized, with phone numbers, tax forms, releases and everything. 

So, some time in December, I’ll be driving up to the studios in New York where Ugly Betty is filmed, and delivering the bots in person.  They’re going to be stars–or at least background extras.  Soon they’ll be demanding their own trailer, final script approval, and bowls of mixed nuts and bolts with all the 1/4-20 nuts picked out…

Current Books: Can I tell you a secret? It takes me forever to read a book. I always have several going at one time and it can take me years (hello, The Fountainhead) to finish one. Right now I’m in the middle of Dead Until Dark, The Man Who Fell in Love with the Moon and A Homemade Life.

Current Playlist: I’m always adding to my beats playlist and recently started compiling a Christmas playlist. Recent iTunes purchase include ’Till I Collapse (Eminem), Forever (Drake), Replay (Iyaz), Go Tell It On the Mountain (Jim Nabors) and Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree (Brenda Lee). Yes, I’m kind of a Top 40 whore.

Current Guilty Pleasure: Hershey’s Kisses at work. I don’t usually eat sweets at the office, but my boss bought me a bag and I can’t say no to Hershey’s chocolate.

Current Color: Black. When in doubt, I always go for black. Or green (but not dark green).

Current Drink: Water, Mountain Dew (I allow myself one can a day during the week) and this fantastic raspberry pomegranate juice I found last week at the grocery store. SO good.

Current Food: I’ve been eating a lot of pasta e ceci over the past 10 days. I’m also obsessed with Snyder’s of Hanover Sourdough Nibblers.

Current Favorite Show: I can never pick a favorite. Also, please don’t judge me based on my fascination with “reality” stars. That said, these days I always tune in to Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew, The Real Housewives of Orange County, The Hills, Fringe, Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters.

Current Wishlist: A car made in this decade. King-size flannel sheets. A bed frame. T-shirts from mental_floss.

I’m sure this wasn’t actually a bad episode of Ugly Betty, but I didn’t buy Matt and Betty’s relationship for a second, I didn’t buy the “result” of that DNA test either, and (apart from Daniel at the very end) I didn’t like anything about anybody in it.

Especially Matt.  Dude.  I really don’t know what you see in Betty these days, but we used to know another guy who supposedly adored her, was forever saying soppy, cheesy (vomit-inducing) things to her and yet was never entirely straight with her, and Matt, we started off liking that guy too.  Till he sucked. 

Don’t be that guy.   You hid your wealth, you hid your past, you hid your real reason for not wanting Daniel to meet with your dad – if you’re hiding a pregnant ex-girlfriend and a job in accountancy, we are DONE.

Em 1984, as noites de sexta-feira eram abrigo de séries que se tornariam grandes clássicos da TV: ‘Miami Vice’, ‘Dallas’, ‘Hunter’, ‘Webster’, ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ e o ‘V’ original. Programação boba, leve demais? Pode ser. Mas pelo menos era original.

Hoje as sextas-feiras são um emaranhado de shows perdidos, no limbo, reprises. As emissoras simplesmente não sabem o que fazer com as sextas-feiras. E a preocupação cresce ainda mais quando NENHUM dos programas consegue passar dos 2 pontos na demo qualificada.

A última sexta-feira foi vencida pela CBS que exibiu ‘Ghost Whisperer’ (8 milhões e 1.9 ponto), ‘Medium’ (8.2 milhões e 1.9 ponto) e ‘Numbers’ (8.2 milhões e 1.8 ponto).

A ABC e a NBC empataram. A primeira exibiu ‘Supernanny’ (5 milhões e 1.4 ponto), ‘Ugly Betty’ (4.5 milhões e 1.3 ponto – finalmente subiu um pouquinho) e ‘20/20′ (6.7 milhões e 1.9 ponto). A NBC exibiu ‘Law & Order’ (7.5 milhões e 1.7 ponto), ‘Dateline’ (7.3 milhões e 1.7 ponto) e ‘The Jay Leno Show’ (4.7 milhões e 1.2 ponto).

A Fox exibiu reprises, enquanto a CW levou ‘Smallville’ ao ar, atingindo seu maior número de telespectadores na temporada (2.7 milhões e 1.2 ponto).

It can be hard to find a date when you’re the twin of a gaming icon. Nights spent all alone watching endless Friends re-runs or lying catatonic listening to William Shatner sing Common People on repeat; with dinner medallions from the microwave lasagne staining your crusty vest and sweatpants, and a half bottle of budget vodka for company – these things don’t help the love-life one little bit.

We thought we’d lend a helping hand to some of the medium’s forgotten siblings in their quest to find a soulmate by printing a few of their calling cards. It’s time for these brothers and sisters to step out of their shadowy cocoons and blossom into the love bugs they were destined to be.

1. Larry Croft

Larry’s a tall and athletic fella with a penchant for digging, spelunking and hunting, much like his sister Lara. He’s a perfect gentleman too, coming from good aristocratic stock, although you’d best steer clear of enquiring about the parents.

A huge fan of all things old and curious, our Larry’s looking for a more mature woman, someone with a story or two to tell, preferably with strange and dubious links to mythological sects and texts. He’s also a fan of old-school smoking jackets, luxury liners and racy point-and-click adventure games. But no photographers: they always Photoshop ridiculously-proportioned organs onto the poor lad. And who can live with that kind of pressure?

Salve a tutti! Come per lo spazio “TV USA Giorno per Giorno – Flash”, prendo, momentaneamente, il posto di Antonio anche in questa rubrica settimanale. Sono Paolo e qui mi conoscete con il nickname PaoloKr. Non esitate con consigli, suggerimenti e, soprattutto, critiche.

• ABC continua “The Forgotten”, cancella “Eastwick”
  La Abc ha annunciato di aver ordinato altri 5 episodi di The Forgotten, serie prodotta da Jerry Bruckheimer mentre, come era prevedibile, ha fermato Eastwick a seguito dei bassi ascolti che la serie ha avuto in questi due mesi e che non andrà quindi oltre l’ordine iniziale di tredici episodi. Maggie Friedman, showrunner e sceneggiatrice di Eastwick, si è inizialmente definita “furiosa” per la cancellazione della serie ma poi si è scusata del termine, dicendo che è invece stata trattata benissimo dalla ABC. Si è detta inoltre dispiaciuta per non aver potuto dare un adeguato finale ma gli episodi sono stati già tutti girati. Entrambe le serie sono prodotte da Warner Bros. Television.
• “Glee” rianima l’industria musicale
  A due mesi dal suo debutto sul network americano Fox e forte di un solido pubblico di 8.6 milioni di telespettatori, Glee è riuscito a far tornare il sorriso all’industria musicale che è sempre più alla ricerca di nuove forme di guadagno a causa di ormai scarse vendite degli album. I fan del telefilm hanno comprato su iTunes oltre due milioni di canzoni cantate dal cast e una compilation è stata appena realizzata. Una seconda arriverà a Dicembre. I ricavi vengono divisi tra Fox e le compagnie musicali che ora stanno cercando accordi per apparire regolarmente con i loro cataloghi nel telefilm. Il singolo di Rihanna “Take a Bow”, ad esempio, ha avuto un vertiginoso picco di vendite dopo essere stato cantato da una delle protagoniste in un episodio. Anche Madonna ha messo a disposizione la sua discografia.

• La CW pronta per “Life Unexpected”?
  Non è stato ancora annunciato ufficialmente, ma quella che dovrebbe essere la serie di maggior riguardo della CW – almeno stando alla critica – debutterà il 18 Gennaio alle ore 21.00. Quello spazio è ora occupato da Gossip Girl che andrà in pausa per diverse settimane per tornare con la seconda parte di inediti a Primavera. Per allora, Life Unexpected verrà anticipato alle 20.00 al posto di One Tree Hill che si fermerà a sua volta prima del ciclo di fine stagione. In questo modo la CW avrà assicurato un Lunedì di inediti continuo da Gennaio a Maggio.
• “Mad Men” chiude col botto
  Mad Men ha concluso la terza stagione Domenica con ben 2.3 milioni di telespettatori. Questo risultato migliora quello dell’anno scorso che fu di 1.7 milioni ed è il secondo migliore di quest’anno dopo l’inizio di stagione che ebbe in Agosto 2.8 milioni. In generale, il telefilm ha guadagnato il 20% in più di pubblico rispetto all’anno scorso e migliorato il risultato nei ratings. La, bellissima, serie infine ha vinto l’Emmy a Settembre come miglior drama ed è uno dei best-seller nella classifica di vendite su iTunes USA.
• La ABC e il “problema” dell’1%
  C’è un mistero che tormenta ultimamente i piani alti della ABC!
  Secondo la Nielsen, la ABC ha ora una copertura nazionale solo del 97%, ed è sotto la CBS, NBC e addirittura FOX.
  Tutti e quattro i maggiori network hanno perso qualcosa nel passaggio al digitale avvenuto questa estate. Prima dello switchover la copertura era del 99% ma dopo, con alcuni che hanno scelto di non passare al digitale, questa cifra è scesa per tutti. Ma mentre per CBS, NBC e Fox si è assestata al 98%, per la ABC è stato diverso. E nessuno sa spiegarne il motivo. “È strano”, dice il Capo Ricerche ABC Charles Kennedy. “Normalmente non ci si metterebbe a piangere per questo. Ma non è una cosa da poco dal momento che quello è un 1% che noi non possiamo monetizzare”. Tradotto in soldi, un 1% rappresenta infatti circa 15/20 milioni di dollari di mancati incassi pubblicitari. A questo si aggiunge il fatto che Fox, nonostante abbia sempre avuto meno stazioni televisive affiliate, risulti ora sopra la ABC che invece continua ad avere sempre lo stesso numero di prima, cioè 233.
  Insomma un mistero!
• Cancellati “Hank” e “Dollhouse”
  È stata fermata la produzione di Hank, la sitcom con il popolare attore Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) che non ha avuto buon riscontro di pubblico e critica. Al momento non ci sono programmi sulla messa in onda dei rimanenti cinque episodi. Per Dollhouse invece era ormai cosa certa, ma si aspettava la comunicazione ufficiale della Fox che ora è arrivata. In questo caso però tutti gli episodi rimanenti verranno mandati in onda tra Dicembre e Gennaio e avremo anche una degna conclusione alle vicende di Echo visto che gli ultimi due episodi sono ancora da girare. Joss Whedon si è dichiarato soddisfatto e orgoglioso di quanto realizzato, degli attori e dello staff della serie. Ha assicurato inoltre che il finale sarà esattamente quello che aveva in mente sin dall’inizio.
• J.J. Abrams parla dei bassi ascolti di “Fringe”
  La seconda stagione di Fringe è stata quest’anno spostata dal martedì, dove beneficiava del traino di American Idol al giovedì dove la competizione non manca di certo, con alcuni dei telefilm più seguiti della settimana in onda quella sera. Come risultato, gli ascolti sono nettamente calati destando non poca preoccupazione tra i fans della serie. J.J. Abrams (nella foto a destra) ha comunque di recente dichiarato che l’umore sul set rimane buono e il network ha espresso completo supporto alla serie. Ha inoltre aggiunto che il telefilm migliora molto i dati d’ascolto quando vengono aggiunte anche le registrazioni. Questo, unito all’entusiasmo dei fan e della critica, lo sprona a fare l’unica cosa possibile: concentrarsi nel realizzare Fringe al meglio possibile. Insomma per ora il telefilm non è assolutamente in pericolo, anche se è ancora presto per parlare di un rinnovo per il prossimo anno.
• Nuovo crossover tra “Grey’s Anatomy” e “Private Practice”
  Nuovo crossover in arrivo a Gennaio, tra Grey’s Anatomy e la sua serie gemella Private Practice. Sembra che sarà ormai una tradizione annuale quella di far incrociare i destini dei protagonisti delle due serie. Dopo che già un altro personaggio della serie madre ha fatto una visita quest’anno a Los Angeles, sarà ora Addison ad essere convocata da Mark al Seattle Grace in seguito ad una emergenza. E, come l’anno scorso, gli effetti di questa storia ribalteranno alcuni equilibri tra i vari personaggi.
• Cancellato “Trauma”, a rischio “Mercy”
  Anche in casa NBC inizia a cadere la scure delle cancellazioni. Trauma, la serie su un gruppo di paramedici di San Francisco è stata già fermata da alcuni giorni e non andrà oltre i tredici episodi ordinati che verrano, comunque, regolarmente mandati in onda. Ora anche Mercy, serie sempre con ambientazione ospedaliera, pur essendo stata confermata per una stagione completa non è al sicuro. Gli ascolti stanno scendendo progressivamente e potrebbe non tornare per la nuova stagione. Nel cast di quest’ultima ricordiamo Michelle Trachtenberg (Buffy, Gossip Girl), James Tupper (Men in Trees, Samantha Chi?) e Guillermo Díaz (Weeds).
• L’episodio in due parti di Smallville diventa un TV movie
  Smallville è arrivata alla nona stagione e sta tenendo alto il morale in casa CW con i suoi buoni ascolti al venerdì. Ora arriva la notizia che i due episodi che vedranno l’arrivo della Justice Society of America (intitolati “Society” e “Legends”) saranno mandati in onda sotto forma di un film televisivo di due ore, il prossimo 29 Gennaio. La JSA, come viene chiamata dai fans dei fumetti DC, è un gruppo di supereroi meno noto rispetto alla Justice League (che vedeva invece tra le proprie fila icone come Batman, Wonder Woman o Superman). I personaggi che appariranno sono Hawkman (interpretato da Michael Shanks), Dottor Fate (Brent Stait), e Stargirl (Britt Irvin).
• Ugly Betty alla riscossa
  Quando, in Usa, una serie viene spostata al venerdì (che loro chiamano “Friday night death slot” non a caso) di solito le ragioni sono sempre le stesse: scarsi ascolti e desiderio del network di allungare il brodo per realizzare episodi sufficienti in modo da rivendere poi la serie in syndication. Di certo la cosa prelude spesso ad una cancellazione.
  Questo è quello che è accaduto proprio con Ugly Betty. La serie, dopo un primo anno di successo sia di pubblico che di critica, ha iniziato una parabola discendente che l’ha portata ad essere defenestrata dal prestigioso spazio del giovedì sera che occupava l’anno scorso e ritrovarsi quindi in una serata dove il suo pubblico per definizione solitamente esce. Invece, da quando è iniziata questa quarta stagione, non solo gli ascolti (sommati alle registrazioni) non sono stati così disastrosi come ci si aspettava ma la serie sembra rinata a nuova vita con una qualità, a detta di critica e fans, paragonabile a quella della prima stagione. La ABC aveva anche considerato il trasferimento della serie, nel 2010, nello spazio lasciato vuoto da Eastwick. La cosa però, pare, che per ora non avverrà.
  Ultima soddisfazione per la più bruttina d’America: giovedì scorso Flash Forward, serie costosissima e pubblicizzata come l’evento dell’anno e che occupa lo spazio che aveva Ugly Betty l’anno scorso, ha ottenuto solo 8.33 milioni di telespettatori mentre esattamente 12 mesi fa UB riusciva a fare oltre 9.20 milioni!

• Accordo di due anni tra la “Tribeca Productions” e la CBS
  I fondatori della “Tribeca Productions“, Jane Rosenthal e Robert De Niro (e promotori dell’omonimo Festival) hanno raggiunto un accordo di due anni con la CBS. Verranno prodotte tre serie da mandare in onda sui canali del gruppo, tutte ambientate a New York secondo lo spirito del progetto Tribeca. Il primo “Securing the City” seguirà le vite di un gruppo antiterroristico del NYPD che ha come missione scovare i terroristi prima che colpiscano. Il secondo progetto sarà un dramma centrato su dei giovani assistenti di procuratori distrettuali. La terza serie invece dovrebbe andare su Showtime, sarà ambientata negli anni ‘80 e parlerà del quartiere “Alphabet City” prima che diventasse il borghese East Village.
• La CW ha commissionato “HMS”, un medical school drama
  Le serie ospedaliere vanno (quasi) sempre bene. Se ne deve essere accorta la CW che ha deciso di volerne una tra i propri telefilm. HMS è un progetto scritto da Amy Holden Jones, famosa per aver creato film come “Mystic Pizza” e “Beethoven” e segna il debutto come produttrice di Hayden Panettiere, una delle protagoniste di Heroes. Il progetto, che venne originariamente commissionato dal canale WB nel 2004, parlerà della vita di un gruppo di giovani studenti della celebre Harvard Medical School.
• Kari Lizer sigla un accordo di tre anni con la WBTV
  La creatrice de “La complicata vita di Christine” , Kari Lizer ha siglato un accordo con la Warner Bros. Television. Pur rimanendo alla guida della sitcom, l’accordo di tre anni la vedrà sviluppare nuovi progetti per la WBTV. In passato era stata anche co-produttrice di “Will & Grace“.
• La ABC progetta il pilot per un nuovo “Charlie’s Angels”
  Charlie’s Angels, l’indimenticabile serie d’azione anni ‘70 prodotta da Aaron Spelling, potrebbe avere una nuova versione. Josh Friedman, che di recente ha adattato Terminator per il telefilm Fox “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” è all’opera, su commissione della ABC, per scrivere e produrre il remake. Nel progetto è coinvolto inoltre il produttore Leonard Goldberg che ha preso parte sia al lancio della serie originale nel lontano 1976 insieme a Spelling, sia al remake cinematografico del 2000 insieme a Drew Barrymore che generò due film di successo. È sempre una sfida cercare di rivitalizzare alcune serie famose del passato che ormai sono ben impresse nell’immaginario collettivo. Non a caso recenti tentativi, (Knight Rider, Melrose Place e The Bionic Woman) sono falliti miseramente.
  Non è la prima volta che si cerca di riportare Charlie’s Angels in televisione: ci provò Spelling nel 1988 con un progetto, mai realizzato, chiamato “Angels 88″ con la FOX che comunque permise all’indimenticabile produttore di siglare un ulteriore accordo per produrre Beverly Hills 90210 e ci riprovarono Carlton Cuse (produttore di Lost) e John Wirth (produttore di Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) che nel 2004 prepararono la sceneggiatura di un pilot poi mai realizzato. Che questa sia la volta buona?

Serie TV

• Pam Grier a “Smallville”
  Pam Grier, nota negli anni ‘70 per i Blaxploitation movies (“Foxy Brown”, tra i più famosi) e “riscoperta” da Quentin Tarantino con “Jackie Brown”, entra a “Smallville” nel ruolo di Amanda Waller, un personaggio dei fumetti DC anni ‘80. L’attrice sarà presente nella seconda parte di un doppio episodio che andrà in onda a Gennaio, si intitolerà “Legends” e sarà diretto da Tom Welling.
• Sheila Kelley si unisce al cast di “Lost“
  Sheila Kelley, che alcuni ricorderanno dal telefilm anni ‘80 “L.A. Law” e che è apparsa in diverse altre serie (“Sisters“, “ER“), parteciperà alla sesta e ultima stagione di “Lost” nel ruolo ricorrente di Kendall. Nulla è stato detto dagli autori circa questo personaggio, ma in molti hanno notato la forte somiglianza dell’attrice con un altro personaggio famoso della serie .
• Robert Patrick a “Chuck”
  Ancora non sappiamo esattamente quando “Chuck” inizierà ma continuano ad arrivare notizie sul cast della nuova, terza, stagione. Robert Patrick, che ricordiamo in “Terminator 2″ nel ruolo di T-1000 ma che ha fatto anche diverse serie televisive (“I Soprano” e “X Files” tra le altre) interpreterà il Colonnello Keller, un misterioso personaggio legato al passato di Casey.
• Sean Faris approda a “The Vampire Diaries”
  Sean Faris (“Reunion“, “Life as We Know It“) parteciperà ad un arco di episodi della serie hit della CW “The Vampire Diaries“. Interpreterà il ruolo di Ben, un amico di Matt, ex stella della squadra di football al liceo ed ora bartender al Mystic Grill. Il suo personaggio sarà coinvolto in una storia d’amore con una delle protagoniste.
• Melissa George sbarca invece a “Lie to Me”
  Dopo un ruolo non memorabile in “Grey’s Anatomy“, Melissa George si unisce al cast di “Lie to Me“. Interpreterà Clara Martin che sarà ispirata alla defunta Anna Nicole Smith. L’attrice divide la sua carriera tra cinema e televisione dove la ricordiamo in “Alias“, “Streghe” e recentemente “In Treatment“.
• Katherine Heigl prende una nuova pausa
  La popolare attrice di Grey’s Anatomy, Katherine Heigl è appena tornata nella serie che le ha dato il successo mondiale, dopo una pausa di tre puntate, ma già è pronta per un nuovo break. Stavolta però non dovrà girare un nuovo film – la carriera cinematografica dell’attrice va a gonfie vele – ma sarà un congedo per maternità! L’attrice infatti ha adottato con il marito una bimba di nome Naleigh. La produzione non ha ancora dichiarato quando e per quanto si assenterà.
• Matthew Davis si unisce al cast di “The Vampire Diaries”
  Matt Davis che ricordiamo in televisione per A proposito di Brian, e più recentemente Damages e In Plain Sight – Protezione testimoni entra nel cast del teen drama dalle tinte horror di successo della CW. Interpreterà il ruolo di un misterioso professore, Alaric Saltzman, che ha un segreto da nascondere (qualcosa in comune con Buffy, a quanto pare). L’attore ha già precisato di non aver mai letto i libri da cui la serie è tratta.
• Minnie Driver guest star a “Modern Family”
  In America si parla di Modern Family, una nuova sitcom partita quest’anno su ABC, come una delle novità più divertenti in onda in questo momento. La serie ha avuto già conferma di una stagione completa. Minnie Driver, che non è nuova ad esperienze televisive (la ricordiamo in Will & Grace), sarà una delle prossime guest star e interpreterà una vecchia amica di Claire (Julie Bowen), una delle protagoniste della serie.
• Alyssa Milano guest star a “Castle”
  Alyssa Milano parteciperà a un episodio di Castle, l’ironico serial crime ABC che sta riscuotendo un discreto successo e che ha già ricevuto l’ordine per una stagione completa. Nell’episodio interpreterà una ex fiamma del protagonista Richard Castle, interpretato da Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Desperate Housewives). Ricordiamo l’attrice per Streghe, dove era una delle protagoniste, ma ha partecipato anche a Melrose Place e My Name is Earl. Nel 2010 partirà inoltre, in midseason, una nuova serie sempre su ABC che la vedrà protagonista, intitolata Romantically Challenged.

Questa volta vi presento il cofanetto con le sette stagioni della bellissima serie crime The Shield. Creata da Shawn Ryan e interpretata da un bravissimo Michael Chiklis nel ruolo del corrotto detective Vic Mackey, la serie è andata in onda dal 2002 al 2008 in USA su FX. Da noi invece si concluderà su AXN nelle prossime settimane mentre Italia 1 non ha ancora annunciato quando andrà in onda in chiaro la settima e ultima stagione. Il cofanetto contiene 39 dischi con gli 88 episodi della serie e svariati contenuti speciali.

VIDEO DELLA SETTIMANA

Questa settimana, in un tentativo di salvare la serie, arriva Heather Locklear a Melrose Place. La serie è un newquel (termine per indicare una serie nuova che è però anche seguito di una vecchia) dell’omonimo telefilm anni ‘90. Come detto i bassissimi ascolti stanno mettendo in serio rischio il futuro della serie e gli autori sono riusciti a convincere la famosa attrice a tornare nel ruolo di Amanda Woodward, proprietaria del condominio dove vivono i protagonisti ed autentica bitch. Vedremo se riuscirà nell’impresa. Di seguito il trailer dell’episodio in onda martedì sul canale CW.

Earlier today, instead of doing work, I watched the episode of Ugly Betty that I missed last Friday. P.S. I love that show everyone should watch it, it is nice to have a different character archetype, she is definitely someone a little more relate able. Or she is to me anyway. Anywho her main issue  of this episode was being fearless. She was passed up on the features column at MODE because all the editors thought that she was too cautious to write a compelling story. throughout the episode she insists that she is fearless and that the old Betty was cautious. The new her is willing to take risks, she exemplifies this by pointing to the fact that she has let her bangs grow out…I don’t know about you but that doesn’t scream fearless to me.

But anyway the episode struck a chord with me, she was so sure that she was a different person more fearless. And all of those around her were used to the old Betty and weren’t really on board with the new fearless thing. The guy that she was chasing something kind of cool about not letting people put her in a box and deciding for herself who she was. I wish I could remember exactly what he said.

All my life I have been the shy kid with the book sitting in the corner by herself. I think being shy was one of the reasons why I read so much. Other than the fact that I get a chance to explore something new (more on that later) it makes it look like that I am content with being alone. It is kind of a wall that I put up to protect me from watching other people be social. I remember when I was in fifth grade in the prime  of my short lived basketball career (there will be no more on this) I was waiting in the gym between school and the game. Everyone was in a group talking and I was scared to go over so I sat against the wall and pulled out my book and started reading. Eventually one of them called me out on it asking me why I was reading, I didn’t know how to respond so I just said “because I want to” not the best retort I know. Well ever since then I was way to embarrassed to even try to talk to them. This continued through elementary and high school and now into college. I am that girl with the book in the corner, or the girl looking down at her plate while everyone is carrying on a conversation.

I know in my heart of hearts that I am not this girl. I want to be in the middle of things, wear the latest in cutting edge fashion. I want to be on stage, I have always like theater but was too chicken to try it. I was stage manager, costume director, student producer but never on stage. While I sit in the corner or on the side the real Jordan is yelling at me telling me to suck it up and get out there! But I am chicken, way too chicken to throw myself on the mercy of strangers. There is a she-wolf in my closet (ha pardon the Shakira reference) and she is dying to get out.

As I like to do every so often, I am going to go through a bunch of shows I’ve been watching to write some general thoughts on the show and any exciting or upsetting news that I may have heard about it.

Survivor Samoa- One thing I like about this show is that they try and make certain that the women have an equal opportunity at most things. Very often, the physical competitions are divided so it’s women vs women and men vs men, elimination/immunity challenges tend to include equalizers like puzzles or skills that aren’t strength based. (I find this admirable since MTV’s RW/RR Challenges seem incapable of doing this. Remember the Battle of the Sexes’ final challenge?) About other aspects of the show: Russel has figured out something very basic–if there is no exile island, then the immunity idol must be hidden at camp. And if it is hidden at camp it must be an identifiable location so that clues can be given to find it. So twice now he has just wandered around camp searching the few places that it could be, and found it. Why has no one else taken this approach? Especially after he found it the first time? I will say that Russel, while I can’t stand him and don’t understand why so many people have gone along with him for so long, is quite the player. He’s super manipulative and strategic. And nice blindside this week.

Vampire Diaries- I have a few distinct issues with this show. 1) It bugs me that Elenia and Bonnie look exactly like their ancestors Katherine and Emily. They couldn’t just hire other actors for the three seconds that they are on screen? 2) Quite killing the interesting people! Vicky and that friend of Stefan’s were both interesting story lines that I would have liked to see develop a lot further. 3) Elenia is the dullest person ever. I mean really, she’s possibly the worst main character in existence. Otherwise, I think they did some clever stuff this week. Especially because there is obviously more to come from Damon, plus all the new vamps. Is Logan one of them?

Dollhouse- Probably the most upsetting, though not surprising, news of the week is the cancellation of Dollhouse. The show was getting really good this season, finally focusing on the entire cast instead of just Echo and Paul Ballard. There are so many things that Fox did wrong with this show (formulaic first season, poor advertising, horrible timeslot, not airing epitaph one) but I do think that Joss Whedon would be more suited for Syfy or some of other cable station (one thing he will have to do is have a cheaper budget though because Dollhouse, for example, is too expensive to produce for Syfy). At least the full season two will be aired. If you haven’t checked out this show already, I really recommend it. What I like about Joss is that he takes things further and uses his shows to examine human behavior and morality in a way that most shows do not.

FlashForward- After a bit of a lull following the series premiere, the show has really picked up steam again. The last few weeks have been some of the best episodes yet and they call into question everything that’s been revealed so far. And then call that into question. A few, interesting twists have come into play now and you can’t help but wonder what everyone is going to do as conspiracies and cover ups seem to multiply and desperation leads to some pretty crazy behavior.

V- Also on the upsetting news of the week, I did not realize that V would only be airing four episodes before going on hiatus until March. That’s pretty lame. The show’s second episode was just as good as the first (which says something about the show since I’ve found that most Sci Fi has a great pilot and a weak follow up). I have no idea what will be filling the time slot during the months off, but I really wish the networks would stop doing that.

Smallville- On the good news, this series has really improved from the last few years and it’s showing in the ratings. Despite being in its ninth season and on a Friday, the show has actually seen increases every week in its viewership. Perhaps everyone is just glad to be rid of Lana Lang for good or they like the playing with Lois Lane. Either way, the plots are better. Lex Luthor is gone for now which is actually fine by me. We looked into Oliver’s story more. Chloe has proven herself to be more interesting than ever before. Lois is just kind of crazy but entertaining. Sadly, Clark continues to be somewhat dull. There’s only so much entertainment to be had from a guy whose entire storyline revolves around “being the perfect hero.”

Ugly Betty- Another show that has become more interesting than before. It takes a look at dealing with grief, poor self esteem, jealousy, being gay in high school, what a mother would do for her daughter…In other words, real issues instead of just scheming against each other which, while interesting in Gossip Girl, isn’t suited for this show as much. Not to say some scheming isn’t good. I just don’t think in this show that should be the entire story. I think also the dad’s story about being wanted in Mexico or wherever just wasn’t as interesting as Justin learning to deal with being in high school.

White Collar- while not as exciting as the first episode (it has become a bit formulaic at the moment) there are some things that leave me interested in the show. The first is that Neal Caffrey is an interesting character. The second is the questions about his girlfriend. It is clear that more was happening than that she was just dumping him and now Neal is trying to find her. I’m hoping we’ll get more than cursory mentions of that in episodes to come. More chasing her and a little less of chasing random bad guys. It does bother me a little that he’s supposed to be this huge romantic in love with this girl and meanwhile he’s hitting on the new FBI agent transferred in to work with them.

Ghost Whisperer- I think one thing I dislike about this show is that the son, Aiden, is kind of weird looking and a bit annoying. Would have been nice for them to have gotten a cuter kid. But oh well. This week they introduced a frightened child-ghost who is hiding with Aiden at the very end which could lead to some great story soon. I wish they would get back to the Shinees and Shadows stuff a little more. (And I think we will be seeing that soon.) I dislike shows that are formulaic with little bigger arch. This show has a bigger story but they tend to ignore it for the majority of the time which is unfortunate. Show us more of Aiden’s skills, show us who he can see. And it would be cool to see more real murders instead of just misguided ghosts.

Merlin- I know this show didn’t do well this summer when it came to the US, but I was watching it last year (online of course) and I really enjoyed it. I would like to learn more about Morgana (we got some hints with the introduction of her half sister Morgose–come on practically the same name!) but I think this season is pushing along well. Especially with the whole magic good or bad dilemma. Arthur and Uther are constantly being forced to rethink their stances only to be hurt by magic and revert back to hatred again. I can’t wait for the day when Morgana and Merlin’s magic is revealed. It would be nice to see more occasions where they almost get caught.

Legend of the Seeker- As I’ve said before, watching this show inspired me to read the entire 12 book (sort of 13 book) series. This season looks even more exciting with the introduction of Cara, a Mord Sith who has allied herself with Richard. I would like them to go more into depth about how the Mord Sith are created as that is an interesting/terrifying story. Meanwhile, I’d also like to stop seeing scenes of the underworld. (For one thing, it’s depressing to think that no matter what type of life you live you are doomed once you die and for another, it’s just not a very well executed bit of imagery.) I’m looking forward to seeing what else they are planning since they have changed things enough from the books to leave you surprised by how things turn out while sticking to the heart and emotion of most of it. (And while leaving out a bit of the preaching.)

As you can see, I’m a real sucker for Fantasy (which would explain why I’m writing a fantasy book–currently 400+ pages in). Any shows you have some complaints or good news about?

I’ve been obsessed with Korean dramas lately. I have recently finished “The 1st Shop Of Coffee Prince” It is such a great love story. “Love Story In Harvard” is also very, very good. If you are into asian dramas or dramas in general, you should check those two shows out.

“The 1st Shop Of Coffee Prince” is light-hearted and a comedy/love story of some sort. You will definitely find yourself laughing when you watch it. “Love Story In Harvard” is a little more serious than the Coffee Prince. Half of the story takes place in the US and the other half in Korea. It is a love story between a law student and a medical student.

Also, “I Love You Betty La Fea” is amazing. Some of you might know it as “Ugly Betty”. I watched the Filipino version but it was originally created in Colombia and entitled “Yo Soy Betty, La Fea”. Of course, with a lot of these dramas, it starts off being funny, but then later making you cry. This will definitely make you laugh and cry. It’s a beautiful story. I highly recommend it!

Ugly Betty – Quarta Temporada

Episódio 3 – Blue on Blue

Blue on Blue gira todo em torno da mesma piada e, também, em torno da mesma temática. Todo mundo sabe que a Betty (America Ferrera) tem que ficar longe de relacionamentos, mas parece que ela não aprende. Mais uma vez, temos situações divertidas envolvendo seus problemas com Matt. Só que, dessa vez, ela se prejudica profissionalmente e começa a colocar a sua situação com ele em pratos limpos. A quarta temporada, apesar de estar recém começando, ainda não apresentou um argumento muito consistente. Mas, até agora, está conseguindo segurar as rédeas com um bom humor. Resta saber até quando isso vai se sustentar.
