With OSIM Singapore International Triathlon 2010 coming up, engaging sports massage (pre-event massage) could greatly aid in your training process.

The aim of pre-event massage is to:
- Help the body to respond well to the demands brought about by increased activity
- Facilitate maximum performance

When muscles are working, an increased supply of oxygen and nutrients are required as muscular activity requires a great deal of energy. It is essential that warm-up and stretching exercises are performed prior to any form of exercise as the body systems are slowly brought up to a peak level and therefore maximum performance can be obtained. Massage will help to obtain these effects, but under no account must it be used as a substitute for exercise. Massage improves the flexibility and extensibility of muscles, increases blood and nutrient supply to the muscles and help to maintain and increase joint mobility.

Chinese New Year Goodies Alert!

Whenever I think of Chinese New Year, the first thing that comes into mind would be the CNY goodies

Whenever I think of Chinese New Year, the first thing that comes into mind would be the CNY goodies (well that or the ang baos). Most of us would love to feast on the pineapple tarts, the kueh bangkits, the loveletters… oh and a little bak kua won’t kill either.

Every year, the thought of cutting down on the CNY goodies seems more and more impossible. With the glazed bak kua resting deliciously on your serving tray, it seems so hard not to steal a piece. Okay, look.. If eating bak gua is wrong, I don’t want to be right. I’m sure many of you, dear blog readers, share the exact same thoughts as me.

So this year, I’m determined to follow the eating tips below to curb my addiction to CNY goodies:

Use a small plate – Instead of eating from a food container, put the food onto a small plate to restrict yourself from over-eating!

Don’t over-buy CNY goodies - One of the best ways to eat less goodies is to buy exactly the amount needed!

Drink 2 glasses of water before visiting – this helps to make you feel full, so that you wouldn’t need to gorge on the CNY goodies

It’s all in your mind – Do remind yourself to eat and enjoy the festive season, but remember to cut down and eat LESS!

For all of you who have the OSIM uKimono and OSIM uKimono Mini, remember to actively continue to use them throughout the festive season!

OSIM uKimono in Purple, Red and Orange

uKimono Mini in Purple, Orange and Red

It’s always during Chinese New Year that we’re more vulnerable to over-eating! So this year, try to make an effort to eat less CNY goodies and for all those who have uKimono and uKimono Mini, try to squeeze in some free time to do simple exercise workouts to complement with your uKimono sessions too!

Over the last 2 weeks, bowel movement has become, er, a silky smooth passage in my case. For someone who’s had constipation problems since erratic flying days, this came as a godsend. Research has shown that massages and regular exercise aids in clearing our bowels.

For the longest time, I had no idea that a clogged system can be pretty obvious to others around you.

No, I’m not referring to that constipated look or ready-to-snap-at-anyone mood. Did you know that prolonged constipation could actually leave its marks on your skin?

Think pigmentation. Yes, those fretful marks could be a reflection of how clear your inner pipes have been!

As I spend more than 13 hours in the office, I decided to do away with bashfulness. Office hours shall double up as fat-busting time! (Photo) At the beginning, the guys were amused to see me in this. I couldn’t care less. This is the best time to kill 2 birds with one uKimono!

The women have been raving about uKimono, but what about the guys? The boys at the office sit behind their desks for a good 10 hours as well. Surely, that unmistakable paunch there holds no relation to the thought SEXY BOD. Thus I put every single one of them through the uKimono test and this is what they feel:

“Eh, not bad, it’s very comfortable!“

“How much is this? I want to get my wife one for Christmas.”

“Ticklish.” Snigger. Snigger.

One refused to try at first. “My wife likes to squeeze my love handles. After wards, if my fats disappear how?” he cried out in mock dismay.

May I mention that this guy was also the first to try eventually, and more than once at that too?

One point to note: The twin power Osimotion is recommended before a heavy meal, not after. Post lunch, the double kneading action is so comfortable that it could actually lull me to sleep, so that’s reserved for a later timing.

*Heavy days for the ladies = uKimono siesta

* suck in your tummy while using this to maximise the effects

When I read the reviews of other users, I knew I was not alone. Its massaging effect also helps to de-stress. When tasks at work overflow and I feel like yanking out my hair, I strap on the uKimono and headphones, close my eyes for 10 minutes and simply chill.

The good thing about using it at home is that one can totally relax on the couch or bed. I had a whale of a time along with my fur-kid !

Maggie Sue played gym instructress!

Take note though, about the actual position of the uKimono on your tummy area. The midriff is not recommended while you’re on a horizontal position, unless you have a very thick layer of fat cushioning.

I learnt it the hard way, ending up bruised for 2 days. The hard kneading caused discomfort but I chose to ignore it in hope for faster results. In this case, pain is no gain!

3 weeks and many sessions later, a molehill remains, albeit a smaller one. I could actually fit a finger between my jeans and waist. Could it be due to the gradual breaking down of fat tissues? One thing is certain. Toilet visits have increased and I’m certainly not complaining. The skin area around a 15 cm long surgery scar on my belly has somewhat soften due to constant massaging.

I’m elated!

My only grouse is that the uKimono can be a tad noisy as compared to its predecessor, especially in the quiet of the night. On sleepless nights (yes, usually when dinner was too heavy!), intentions to use it have to be shelved. If only there’s a soundless version… please ignore me; discerning consumers are hard to please; the best does not suffice.

Oh yes, if there’s a mini uKimono to fit between the thighs and arms, that will be fabulous. While men probably don’t care two hoots about it, women fear the extra wave in their arms and thighs. Sure, we could always do some push-ups but who has the discipline to?

An acquaintance declared that no slimming machine was going to help, only good old exercise. I agree that we should not depend on one slimming aspect as a cure-all. The focus must be a holistic outlook towards a healthy body that comprises of nutritious diet, loads of exercise and in my case, a slimming belt for long desk bound days. (That said, my chocolate diet is here to stay)

Moderation is key while total dependence is not. Still, like many other uKimono users out there, I’m mighty glad that there’s something to fall back on that aids in our quest for a toned bod.

PS: The least thing one should do was to purchase a product just because his/her idol endorses it. It’s utterly ridiculous, if you ask me. Get it because you believe in its effects, not the notion that owning that endorses product brings you a step closer to your beloved idol.

Yes, and go easy on the chocolates.

“There’s no time to exercise, I don’t even have time for pee breaks!”

“Exercise makes me tired.”

“Stilettos crippled my toes; I can’t jog to save my life.”

“My muscles ache too much.”

“I’ll rather skip lunch.”

“Err, aren’t night time sessions good enough?”

Sounds familiar? Well, if lazy and highly stressed women deserve a second chance, then I think it would have to come in the form of this. When I popped down the store last month, I was stumped as 3 yummy colours bade welcomingly at my fats. Er, at me.

Trust a woman’s senses to run amok in the presence of pretty colours and designs.

“So which colour has been the most popular? Has uKimono been selling well? ” I queried, knowing the second question came as a no brainer. But what the heck.

According to the polite young gentleman serving us, all colours have their fans. A tremendous deal of research was conducted before deciding on the colours and design. Well done. I’m sold based on aesthetics alone. Five stars for the pretty daisy motifs.

But my main concern was – how is this pretty-looking ‘waist pouch’ going to help me?

When is the earliest I could see results? When and how often can I use it? How can the fabric be washed? What is the shelf life? Do I need to replace the battery? Can I use it on a full stomach? What about heavy days?

Will OSIM be coming out with a cordless version?!

Why is the uKimono more expensive than the uZap?

Yes, I’m not the easiest customer to deal with, but hey, it’s only fair that I get the lowdown on what goes onto my body right?

I went straight for maximum power. Don’t you just tingle with breathless excitement when you anticipate the effects of something that promises to nail down your 35 year-old problems?

The initial sensation was a tad startling. It felt weird. Ticklish. Kinda like having an alien object burrowing its way towards the inner layer of fat on my tummy. A few minutes later, I got accustomed to the vibration/kneading and relaxed.

I must have over relaxed. The next thing I knew, my bladder was doing its own vibrating. I realised that prior instructions to pee before usage had slipped my mind.

Damn. I rushed to the little girls’ room before resuming. To make my baby work harder, I decided to do the horse stance at the same time. 15 minutes later, I dutifully gulped down a large glass of warm water to clear the toxins.

Interestingly, many uKimono users experienced the same effects and have since ‘wised up’. Some Tweeted about the initial itchy sensation. It’s the sleepy muscles waking up, so says the OSIM staff. Others felt that 10 mins was far too short a session. They wonder if prolonged usage on a specific area could cause possible side effects. One even panicked after falling asleep while using his uKimono, not knowing that it stops automatically after each cycle!

Personally, it was a case of alternating between different areas of the body before coming back to where I first started. I have a simple top-to-bottom system that covers my tummy, thighs and butt in that order, so that after a 30 minute cycle, I can ‘safely’ go back to my tummy attack again. On days when time was more of essence than ever, at least I know that one full cycle has been covered. The guilt factor as well!

I believe the users can be grouped into 2 larger camps – one which depend totally on the slimming product while throwing calorie charts into the trash bin. Another will be those who would physiologically be affected into eating less and injecting forms of exercise into their routine, so as to maximise their investment.

Do you belong to either?

Now that there is some free time at hand, I am reflecting on the number of ‘first attempts’ I have made. Other than participating in 3 runs within a year for the first time, I have learnt how to say ‘No’ and am more accustomed to taking overcrowded public transport. And, well, I do not know about you, but this year is also the first I have ever stepped into an OSIM store. Think the majority of us will bypass it in preference to our favorite and frequently patronized fashion houses. I am absolutely guilty of that.

But a rare opportunity allowed me to visit one without feeling intimidated by the luxurious & high-tech aircraft ‘space bed’ look alike. If you think that you need to belong to a certain caste to feel welcome, it’s time to change the mindset and step into one today.

Warm welcoming smiles greeted me when I visited and I still remember behaving like a kiddo in a ‘Toy R Us’; there are so many buttons and amazing inventions available in the store. The knowledgeable and helpful sales personnel showed me the latest products and their functions. I must say that OSIM products are very easy to use and user-friendly.

There are actually many new toys that I wish to get for my loved ones and myself; they do make practical & presentable gifts. And I’m definitely thrilled to declare the uKimono, endorsed by S.H.E as mine. Now it is the best friend of the 3 ladies in my family. Although 1 month is really hard to see any obvious results, what make us happy just by using it, is that our ‘snacking’ time, tea breaks and 2nd helpings of carbohydrates have been reduced.

The initial plan to journal my attempts to reduce those unwanted fats by using uKimono is being pushed aside because of laziness, irregular working hours and personal commitments. But for sure, the uKimono actually creates more talking points between the 3 ladies in my family. Many a time, I will start by teasing my mum if she is ’secretly’ using the uKimono when I call back home. Having my own room has lessen the interaction between my sister & I, but nowadays, she will pop by my room more often, cheekily asking if she can have ‘uKimono’ time. Sometimes, I wonder why my sister requires it in the first place. But what she said makes sense; she needs to start maintaining now and not wait until the congregation of tummy fats becomes obvious. Sigh, wish I am more ‘body’ smart (derived from street-smart) like her so that I do not have to work extra hard to achieve my ‘old’ bodyline and have a flat & desirable tummy like her.

Seriously, after the age of 27, it seems I am trying to re-understand the different ways my body is forming. Just like when I was 19, growing through puberty. The realisation of a thicker waistline is quite alarming so I am trying to strap on my Cherry Cheery more regularly than my sister! Haha.

And I prefer to disagree with friends who like hugging their ‘bear- like’ SO (significant other) with ‘fatty’ waistline and exclaim ‘so cute!’ remarks. Accepting flaws is one thing but honestly, don’t you ladies like guys who have hot bods & vice versa?

For me, having a slim waistline is being a good steward of my body and it makes me feel good by having a higher confidence level.

So I started to follow OSIM_SG on Twitter where they furnish useful tips on a healthy lifestyle and news tweets on the recent uKimono challenge.

Join uKimono Sayonara Fats Contest now and win a mystery gift! One winner to be picked at end of every month, from now till March 2010!

You can read more here: http://www.osim.com/SG/home.aspx

Okay, maybe I should print this out to remind me of those dreadful fats I am trying to shed and stick it on my mirror! The ‘fat’ may look harmlessly cute here but in actual fact, they are not!

P.s: Love it that the jolly festive season is approaching, time to give & receive but also a time of very sinful feasts. I really need to revisit my best friend (uKimono) soon and greet those fats ‘sayonara’! Repeat after me, Sayonara Fats.

Till today, I still find it fascinating how a human could breathe life into any tiny being after a m

Till today, I still find it fascinating how a human could breathe life into any tiny being after a mere 9 months of pregnancy. The thoughts of myself expanding, and then contracting again is fascinating. But of course, I did not go back to the original size as before. How I wished!

Though there are a handful who asked what I did to slim down, I have to remind them that this is only the first pregnancy, and I have friends who have had three children, and they are qualified as bonafide hot mamas.

Keeping in shape has been a constant challenge from the day I decide to marry then-boyfriend-now-husband. Most girls want to look good for their wedding shots, and I also dabbled in a brief modelling stint for my wedding photographer for some fun after my wedding shots. So, I have to look slim!

This was published in Her World Bridal magazine in June last year.

My History

When I was pregnant, I was 28 years old and 45kg. Morning sickness was a pain to remember, and the only memorable thing about it was, my dad was in the same state as me because of chemotherapy. One of the side effects – vomiting. I remembered we were joking about it, that we were “pregnant” together so I’m not exactly suffering alone. Well, such hilarity coming out from the mouth of a man battling with a terminal disease. I felt consoled nevertheless; my dad’s a tough cookie.

I didn’t gain much during the first half of the pregnancy, because all I could take was milo and crackers. Towards the last three months however, my appetite grew, and I find myself eating 5 heavy meals every day – The weight gain suddenly became really obvious, I find myself staring back at my double chin, my thighs are rubbing against each other as I walk, and I get frequent leg cramps. I remembered the frequent peeing trips to the toilet because my baby was pressing down on my bladder, and I didn’t dare to drink a lot of water. It was a mistake, because lack of water triggers off water retention and my foot swelled up to resemble those of an elephant’s.

In total, I gained about 19kgs in a span of 36 weeks. On top of all that, I get a surprise present – STRETCHMARKS! On my once wash board tummy. I remember lamenting to myself, “Oh Shit, No more Bikinis!”. My daily regime of applying the Clarins Stretchmark cream has gone to waste, so it’s not really about the cream, but the skin of an individual.

After I gave birth, I breastfed for 2 weeks, and the weight reduced slightly. Massage was aborted because I gave birth via C-section, and there was intense pain at the surgery area. I do have a Chinese lady who comes to my place to massage me from the third week onwards, but because my threshold for pain was so low, my sessions with her didn’t help much. The tummy wrap was excruciating, I find myself releasing the tight cloth around my tummy the moment she’s out of the gate, so I wasn’t very discipline either.

I only resumed jogging on the fourth month, after being advised by my gynae at Gleneagles. The first session was depressing. I wasn’t as fit as before, and my stamina was at all time low. I still have my ugly bulge vandalised with purplish unsightly stretch marks and I never knew they will be there for as long as they want, and will only appear fainter over time.

I remember discussing about this openly with all my mummy friends..some get it, some don’t, so guess I have only my genes to blame.

I didn’t visit the gym or do any fancy body-toning work-outs, but I embarked on a trio-weekly slimming massage at a Spa salon at Ang Mo Kio. I’m happy with the results because I feel healthier other than the effortless shedding weight part. Massage helps in blood circulation and rejuvenation. This is a well-known fact, and I am a firm believer of massages.

Now 9 months on, I am 5 kg from my pre-pregnancy weight, and I still have a belly that may resemble a 3 months pregnant tummy at times when I overeat(Well, who doesn’t?). But friends and relatives have commented that I looked better than before. Maybe I have my new-found motherhood identity and motivation (keeping in shape) in life to thank.

Eat Healthy, Be Healthy, Stay in Shape! = Happy Woman

I still jog, carry my 8kg baby around, bring her for walks or I’ll settle her in the stroller and do a push-baby-in-pram jog along the beach. Make sure that the stroller can be used for jogging. I bought mine from Stokke, at Mothercare.

Not only can you lose weight, you get to tone the muscles in your arms at the same time. This jogging regime is super tiring so be mentally prepared..Pack towel and some water for yourself and your baby, then store it in the stroller. I ended up with sore and achy arms for 2 days after the first attempt, but my baby loves this exercise so much because she feels like she’s flying probably

I also practised a lot of self-control with my cravings. If I had supper the previous night, I’ll downed lemonade the entire day thereafter. Lunch is Japanese cucumber with yogurt and they are yummy!

I eat very little rice and literally no yellow noodles because these are high on carbo, and I take a lot of vegetables and fruits. No processed food(it is hard, but a little goes a long way). A coffee lover, I drink coffee without sugar, and no candies for me. I still however, crave in to my favourite ice-cream from Hagen Daz but I also remember to exercise so I can eat!

On lazy and raining days like what we often get recently, I fall back on my trusty new baby, the uKimimi (uKimono)for some “me time” indoor zapping. I strapped this on(remember to breathe in! and suck in that tummy) with my baby girl playing on the bed next to me. Sure is a funny sight, but It is definitely time-saver, and best of all, I’m in a recumbent position indulging in an effortless work-out! Kimmi always seems so amused with this pretty lavender grooving away on her mommy’s tummy. She has learnt a few shake-a-tum-tum moves by the way, so proud of her!

In conclusion, I believed that there are no ugly women, only lazy ones. It takes a whole lot of perseverance to see results. It takes discipline too, to strap on my uKimono after awhile just like how I grew weary of the uZap eventually as novelty wears off. Such devices work only if you keep using constantly, coupled with a healthy diet and moderate exercise. Not that hard seriously if you are determined to slim down.

This is the price to pay for being a mommy. Imagine when baby no.2 comes, I’ll have to start the regime all over again. This time however, I’ll probably jumpstart myself on some yoga class for preggies to maintain gradual weight increase during pregnancy. The trick I realised, is to achieve GRADUAL weight increase instead of a sudden purge towards the end. Hormonal change may be the main culprit, but most of my mommy girlfriends feedback that it is in fact, manageable. This is happy news for mums-to-be and ladies who are planning to have babies.

I am still envious of how other mums have wash board tummies after giving birth, and I totally want to be like them. I missed wearing flattering tops or dresses that shows off that neat waistline – I have a waistline but the unpredictable tummy part can be dampening. There’s still room for improvement!

I haven’t been so concerned about a body part all my life until now. Keeping in shape has been a challenge, and I’m battling this everyday with my ego. I’ll share more tips in the next few entries, and I am inviting my dear readers to share your tips as well!

How do you stay in shape without burning a hole in your pocket?

Written by Janie

Woohoo! Today, I am a proud owner of the new uKimono and mine’s the sexy and brilliant red (after much debating of course)! *Wink* It was really difficult to decide on the colors and if I have the spare cash, I will definitely get all 3 to match my moods. The red one when I am feeling passionate and confident, the purple one will enhance the calm and relaxed mood, it happens to match my room color too. While the citrus orange to represent the bubbly and sporty personality. One of my friends named hers, Lavie as she has got the purple one, so cute right? Which one will you choose?

Fortunately, the friendly and knowledgeable sales personnel at the ION outlet were really patient and very helpful in demo-ing how to use the uKimono. The uKimono has a preset 10mins function of both the threading and vibrating motion or we can choose the manual functions. I left the shop feeling very impressed and assured of the innovation and effectiveness. It is really a good bargain for me because other than wanting to reduce the fats on my thighs and waist, it also helps improve the body’s digestion and prevents constipation!

Constipation has always been another troubling issue for my friends and I as we clear our bowels only once or twice a week. We always tease one another of being full of ‘shit’ (Haha, pardon the language) and it causes bloated stomachs, breakouts and leaves us feeling frustrated. So I was really excited when the sales personnel highlighted this feature to help us banish this common and worrisome health problem.

I strapped it on the moment I got home and my mum was squealing when she saw it! She had been eyeing it since she saw the television ads featuring S.H.E. Suddenly, she seemed to turn into a little girl, coaxing me to strap it on her instead. It is so easy to operate that my mum picked it up after only explaining it to her once.

My maiden 10 mins with the uKimono gave me great hope in wanting to embark on starting a journal to a flat tummy and leaner thighs! Initially, you will feel the itch as if someone is tickling you but after a while, you will get used to it. Else, you can try to put a towel between the Ukimono and your body to counter the itch but bearing in mind that the effectiveness will be reduced too. So in this case, I feel it’s no itch, no gain!

Other than that, I can use it when I am watching television or reading a book so it does not disrupt my lifestyle. The only concerns for me will be that I will need to be near a power socket to operate it and it is a little heavier than it looks from the television. But I am not complaining! =)

Hurry to the nearest outlet and try it on and remember to leave your comments after that.

And mum, do not think that I am unaware of you secretly using my uKimono! Ha!

Many people ask me: “How do you keep in shape despite eating like how you eat?” You must be wonderin

Many people ask me: “How do you keep in shape despite eating like how you eat?” You must be wondering what they mean when they say, “How I eat”.

Alright, let me just use last Friday as an example. To start my day, I had a bowl of extremely spicy minced pork noodles, two half-boiled eggs, a slice of bread with butter and jam, and a tall glass of iced Milo. Mid day, I had Bak Kut Teh with Pigs’ Trotters (not lean meat, I like it when the fats melts in my mouth). Dinner, according to my dictionary, is the most important meal of my day, as I need to justify for working so hard and unwind after a day’s work. I had Japanese buffet which made me feel like exploding. Thank god I felt like a glut at the end of the day. Otherwise, I would have gone for Cheese Prata with Milo Dinosaur before meeting up with the food monsters in my dreams.

Wow, that’s a lot of food in a day! Now that I’ve listed them down, I should be extremely guilty if I had to count my calories! Well, I’ve been stuffing myself since god knows when. I’m a foodie and it makes me happy. So what the heck!

Perhaps thanks to the good genes that run in the family, I’ve been maintaining my weight in the region of 50-55kg. Not too bad for my height. I didn’t do much until I touched my third decade. When you are young, your metabolism is your greatest friend.

I guess the nature of my work does play a part too. As a realtor, it is required that I go around the island for viewings. Just last month, I was trying to sell a 4th floor walk-up apartment. I wished I had my running shoes on. I went up and down the flight of stairs in my stilettos 8 times. And this was just one occasion. I was there 3 times. Luckily I was not wearing a pair of Manolo Blahnik.

I’m always very high in energy. Whenever I’m out for a social gathering, I will be the one who will try to spice up the party. If you say this is not part of an exercise, I would like to hear from those event organizers and party planners. Do you feel tired after trying to keep everyone entertained?

I have my lazy days which I refuse to even climb a step of stairs. Occasionally, I allow myself to be the couch potato. This is when overhauling takes place. While following the Gossip Girls and Lipstick Jungle serials for hours with chips, I would plaster masks on my face and nails (No prospective boyfriends allowed during this ritual). Excessive moisturizing follows, and finally ends with a nice rub of my legs and feet. They deserve a break too, after serving me and walked from Singapore to London in my size 10 slippers, and from Jurong to Pasir Ris in my Aldos.

And you know what? Just last night, I have a new addition to this weekly ritual. I’m referring to my brand new uKimono. Yeah!! Finally in my hands!! I felt like an anxious child unwrapping my new toy. Like a curious kiddy, I was exploring this cute and cheerful looking belt. Hmm… no pictures of my plastered face with singlet and boxers yet. Will get in a better suit for public eye and snap a picture for you in my upcoming article.

Apart from what I’ve mentioned, any other fun exercise suggestions you can contribute? Or keeping in shape the “lazy” way? Let me take a peek into your room, I’d love to hear your own rituals too!

I’ll be waiting…. *wink*

Dear blog readers, once again OSIM brings you useful health tips that you could use to make your life a healthier and better one!

Regular massages complement well with regular workouts. Workouts not only help to keep you in shape, but also lower your stress level. Try out these following workouts to complement with your massages:

Lie face up with legs on the floor and arms extended behind you, palms up. Lift left leg and right arm. Grab ankle as you twist upper body and turn head slightly to the left. Hold for 1 count. Switch sides to complete 1 rep. Do 5 to 7 reps.

Lie on your left. Cross your arms in front of chest, legs straight, feet together. Roll onto your back, place hands on the floor behind hips and sit up as you draw your knees toward your chest.

Lower your legs to floor as you turn and lie on your right side. Repeat back to left side to complete 1 rep. Do 5 reps.

You could choose to do these workouts after your massage sessions and they do complement nicely with your new uKimono too! So after a recommended 20 minutes of uKimono session, go challenge yourself with these workouts to make sure that you have a slimmer and toned silhouette.

So unless your idea of exercising is running down for your bus every single workday morning (like me), you know you’ve got to do something about it! Go try this out today and see the difference in your fitness level.

Written by Gladys

6 November 2009 – Janet and I were invited to the OSIM Event where I got to be up and close to the cutesy Taiwanese trio group – S.H.E Press Conference

Did you know that OSIM is located at Basement four of Orchard Ion? I only knew on that day, and I was impressed with not only the event itself, but also the employees who serve the Singapore owned business.

Under the strict guidance of the well-trained sales personnel Edward, he showed us the demo of their new baby, the uKimono.

This pretty device is available in three bright and happy colours, Sunkist Orange, Misty Lavender and Vibrant Red. How can one resist such a pretty sight?

The best part of all, it targets the main areas I’m most concerned with, my tummy, butt and flabby thighs! Janet and I had fun trying out this twin powered osimotion that comes with an additional kneading function developed by Dr. Koto. Takayoshi, a Shiatsu Massage Expert in Japan.

After the demo, we were ushered by the amicable OSIM staff to our VIP seats, the front row of the Press Conference! Yummy finger-food was dished out and cocktails resembling the 3 vibrant colours of the uKimono were served to the press and friends of OSIM.

I wasn’t expecting something like this honestly! We were thrilled! Such a pity that April and Janie couldn’t join us in this star-studded event.

When 93.3 DJ Junwei announced the arrival of the superstar trio, I recalled myself snapping away endlessly at the three petite silhouettes on my canon camera. The trio superstars are really as cute as they seem on television.

Fans anticipating the arrival of OSIM’s new ambassadors, S.H.E.

Check out their matching colours of their uKimonos and the cups! We have to give credit to the marketing people of OSIM for that.

For Ella, she loves the uKimono because it enhances blood circulation and relieves aches for her body as she dances a lot for her concerts.

Pretty confetti greeted my face at the end of the star-studded event. All the fans of S.H.E were happy!

From Left: Miss Sabrina and Mr Edward. Thank You very much!

Lastly, I have to mention this new baby on my wish-list, the OSIM uMist

Written by April Most of my friends tell me, no matter how tired or frustrated you are at work, alwa

Written by April

Most of my friends tell me, no matter how tired or frustrated you are at work, always make time for exercises. They advise that a workout not only put you in good shape physically, it is therapeutic as well.

As for me, I play badminton weekly. I try to jog, cycle and wakeboard at least once a week. I have lots of other hobbies like roller-blading and horse-riding. But it’s been a long time since I revisited. I should really try to fit it back to my schedule as I really miss doing it. I just took up golf and definitely looking forward to hone my skills on the green. I love exercises that are thrilling or in the form of games. Injects a little fun and keeps you going for more.

Oh! How can I miss another favorite hobby that I’ve been doing all these years and still enjoying? I love to dance. When I was younger, I can step into a club and danced till the lights come on. On one occasion in Hong Kong, my colleague called me an energizer bunny. I danced nonstop from 11pm-5am! I emerged from the club drenched in my own perspiration. How uncool…

The last time I really danced in a club was last Christmas. As you get older, the skin gets thinner. I was too shy to show too many of my moves, pitting myself against the 20somethings don’t seem right. I switched to another form of dancing. Now, I do Salsa and other social dances like Rock ‘n’ Roll and Waltz. This should take me another few decades.

However, none of these work on specific target area of the body. I should think I have the same complaints as many thousands of other women on earth… What happened to those 8 packs on my abs when I was 18? Why do I have billiard table-like thunder thighs? How did those dimples get onto my upper thighs? Where are the toned lean arms and the mice? What can I do to keep my best asset, the butt, perky? And OMG! The spare tires are building up around my waist! Are there any more complaints to add on to my list? I’m sure I left out some…

* Sorry, didn’t mean to spoil your visual appetite with this. But studies have shown that even the sweet young things are susceptible to cellulite. And the main culprit?

Smoking.

I call this close friend of mine a “gymnasium addict”. I even begin to think she has a share in the fitness club. She insists how a personal trainer can tailor a program to individual needs and aims at working out the target area. Very disciplined and motivated (I’m not sure if it’s because of the trainer though), she visits 4 times a week. I hope she miraculously misses the next sentence. I don’t see very much improvement. Ouch. And where’s the fun and relaxation? I see it as a massive torture session!! (Yes, I’m waiting to be assassinated. Feel free to voice out here to educate my ignorance.)

Most of my friends give up exercising for many reasons, or is it excuses? Too tied up at work, no one to look after their little tots, too many things to do and too little time, 24 hours in a day but never a good time, injury, menstrual cramps, choosing shopping over exercising, don’t like to be sweaty, lazy, and the list goes on. What’s your pick? Or are you the exercise maniac who’ll go jogging during your hour lunch break in Shenton Way?

New inventions and innovations are my best friend. OSIM’s uKimono came into the picture, allowing us to keep in shape “the lazy way”. Now, the rest is history.

I was asked to review the product and I quickly took up the opportunity. At a point, I couldn’t even wait. I raced to an OSIM shop and requested for a demonstration by the sales representative. He was very detailed and as enthusiastic as I am. The demo set was in a happy orange although my eyes were fixated on the shocking pink.

uKimono is definitely for me, I thought to myself. I want my abs back and the fats out, I need my butt to defy gravity, and I need those cute dimples from my thighs to disappear forever. This is the best of 3 worlds! And my favorite part is that I can use it on my lazy days on the couch, while working from home, and most importable of all, it’s affordable. They also have referral incentives which I found excellent.

My maiden experiences with uKimono made me want to lure my friends into parting with their dollars. I’m certain they will thank me for it. For you ladies out there, let’s mix business with pleasure!

Octopus Jitters: Taken in the suite prior to the delivery of our wedding speech in June 2008.

I remember telling him that I was feeling nervous, and he demonstrated his naughty octopus gesticulation to comfort his wife. Bear often makes an ‘octopus face’ to cheer me up, and squeals when he succeeds in making me laugh. Indeed, laughter’s the best medicine for us in our “oh, so stressed-up” little country.

People who know me know I embrace life and happiness because of the unique life experience I have had. In fact, everyone has a unique one, and every individual’s life differs. I believe in laying my hands on the pretty things I fancy because life is too short.

After our wedding and one pregnancy later, both the husband and I embarked on the fight towards our horizontal expanding waistline. For Bear, he directed it to the result of eating all my left-overs because of the erratic appetite during my pregnancy. He became the dust-bin literally because I was so fond of eating many irregular meals during the last trimester, but never seemed to finish all my food. That accounts for the extra 18kg I gained over the 9-month period. Scary huh?

He loves…

Bowling. A former avid gym-goer, he is still paying for the monthly gym membership fees but has not stepped foot into that place for the past 16 months. “Too crowded” he said.

Bowling has become his passion during my pregnancy as I was having this whole day morning sickness which confined me to bed literally.

The man looks like he is gearing up for some serious competition, short of becoming an aspiring national bowler. But hey, he has started to bowl competitively on a small scale, so I am still proud of his little slimming hobby lah

Hubby and his cherry red bowling ball

I love…
shopping, massages and anything that keeps my body moving effortlessly. I do enjoy an occasional jog along the breezy ocean a stone’s throw away from our home. Wind in my hair, beating against my face and the adrenaline rush; pounding in rhythm with my favourite song on my ipod.

A pair of pretty shoes keeps me running!

If time doesn’t permit (hah, excuses!) or the soul’s feeling lazy, I fall back on my trusty lemonade diet and the OSIM uZap for an effortless zap off the flabby waistline daily for a week before attending any social functions with my loved ones. It is every girl’s dream, both young and the mature to look pretty!

Kimmi with mummy’s 2 year old slimming gadget

And perhaps vanity is not confined to only the ladies, because I find the husband stealing my uZap to strap on his size 36 waistline in the evenings after a long day at work *horror* and I’m so afraid that he would out-use it one day. Maybe I’ve been thinking about this so much that the universe decides to give me the uKimimi (uKimono – name changed to protect the innocent).

Look, Kimmi! Here’s mommy’s new toy

My uKimimi sitting on my purple bed, in my purple room

A similar experience that most of my girlfriends and I encountered was the itchiness that puts us in a quandary. If you jog, you should also experience some form of itchiness on your thighs after jogging for some distance. I get that all the time, because

I don’t jog enough

There is intense blood circulation in the thigh area due to the work-out. In this case here, I know that the work-out is effective because my fats and cellulites are being dispersed and transferred through the blood to the muscles to be use as energy.

Those old-bird joggers shared that the itchiness is really just the initial phase. After regular jogging sessions, the itch disappears as the muscles and legs tones up. This one I know

In conclusion and my understanding, most of us feel the itch because of that available “spare bulge” on our problem areas. These are good target areas for the oscillating and kneading capacities powered by a little pretty device that also offer these benefits. So the moral of the “no pain no gain” story is, “tahan” the itch (takes about a week) and we’ll all be on our way to a slimmer silhouette! *fingers crossed for us ladies*

For those of you who just jumped onto the slimming belt bandwagon, my uKimimi comes with a double kneading function that its predecessor, the uZap lacked. So you can actually make use of this brilliant feature for other body areas like the lumbar (back) and thighs effectively.

And at this very moment that I’m ending this off, I am proud to say that I have strapped the uZap on my thigh, and my new toy on my tummy for a good 20 minutes of effortless work-out. I’m feeling glad already!

Do you have any tips on how you utilise your work-out gadgets? Tell me!

Love,

Glad

Written by: Janie

A piece of consolation and hope after chatting with my friends – most of them are facing the same problem of having spare tires around the waist and thighs! So it is not just MY body that is going haywire. The good thing is that we are still in time to hop on the health-wagon to a stronger and more toned body.

After watching Julie & Julia, the idea of updating my fat-busting journal struck me (in the movie, Julie blogs her progress in cooking all of Julia Child’s 524 recipes in a year). In a way you guys are my witnesses, giving me support and motivation…what do you think? Is it feasible?

Oh, last week while having my dinner, I caught the ads of the new slimming belt, uKimono by OSIM. It looks so cute, compact and sweet with the Taiwanese group, S.H.E as their ambassadors! My friends and I will always pick their songs when we karaoke. Heh.

You can also view their girly video on the official OSIM website, http://www.osim.com.

The new uKimono looks so compact and stylish that they remind me more of a waist pouch than a slimming massage belt. The best part? They come in 3 different colors: orange, red and purple to suit the daily modern lifestyle. Such chirpy colours! My favourite colour has got to be red, what’s yours?

The new uKimono is the combination of Twin Power Osimotion and Double Kneading massage technology that help to break down fats on tummy and have toning effects for the butt and thighs!

A big plus factor to get it is because it can also help relieve lower back aches and pain, perfect for my mum’s back condition. She is now relying on loads of supplements and they are very expensive. Hopefully, this can give her some relief.

Honestly, I will not mind using them in the office as they are not bulky or cumbersome, OL will know what I mean, having to sit at the desk the whole day. I can also bring it along on overseas trips without having to worry about giving up precious shopping space in my luggage. Most importantly, I can exercise with style!

Woo, I think uKimono is also very suitable for new moms who are trying to shed those post natal fats.

Lately, some of my friends have given birth and they have been trying to lose weight or at least go back to their original size. According to them, it is an extremely uphill task and most of them complain that they take ages to doll up because of the dilemma of not being able to squeeze into their pre-pregnancy clothes.

So fathers, boyfriends and sons, this is the perfect gift for both your loved ones and yourself too! =) And 3 different colors, one for your gf/wife/yourself, your mum and mothers in-law…plenty to go around. Purchases can be made online too, so there are no excuses really.

Ladies, are you interested to journal the progress of shedding those fats? I sure am! Please leave me your blog address…we can start, update and spur each other on until we see the results! It will be fun! =)

Written by: April

Raise your hands if you have aspired to be a self-made independent woman since young. What was your first step and how did you fare? Well, as for me, I did it at the tender age of 18. Dying to break free from the protective arms of my mother, the only way is to find a job that brings me out of this sunny island regularly. What better way than to live the dreams of many young Singapore girls?

Flying as a career has exposed me to many things, forming a “mould” of what I am today. Knowledge on personal decorum, social etiquette, personalized service attitudes and understanding of different culture, cuisine, and lifestyles are just a few to mention. Most important of all, how we present and carry ourselves is something which will benefit me throughout my life.

When most of my peers are busy mugging over examinations in the library during their university days, I’ve embarked on a different journey, which is digging into my purse in ensuring I look my best at all times. Make-ups, skincare, perfumes, body scrubs and moisturizers, monthly visits to beautician and hairdresser, spas etc. Youth waits for no one. How can we delay the ageing process especially when I love my sun-kissed skin to be golden brown forever?

Normal skincare is essential no matter how tired you can be. Cleanse, tone and moisture. I believe in frequent facial with extractions. Only then, whatever you apply works. Hydrating masks fortnightly after face scrubs. Always use sunscreen on the face. The sun is hottest between 11am and 3pm so limit your exposure during this time. The Australians had the “Slip, Slap, Slop” campaign – slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat.

Cool.

For sun worshippers, always use sunscreen and not sun tanning oil without SPF. You will still get a tan. Remember to be generous with moisturizer after the tanning session. I find this rule very useful: If your shadow is shorter than you – seek the shade, as this means the UV rays are literally sky high!

I’m sure you have friends who lament to another about how mature the latter look, only to find out that they are much younger than they look. Of course, the recovery comment is to highlight that they are mature in their thinking and outlook towards life, and their disposition, instead of appearances. I suppose such words are pleasing to the ears, and therefore, the panic button is not activated. This is why some of my peers continue with their clubbing lifestyle, late nights, “a pack a day” addiction, and weekly roasting of skin without reservations. My sincere advice to every self-loving lady out there, start taking care of yourself as soon as possible. I regret not doing more for myself earlier.

I am thankful for my job in the airline. It has allowed me many opportunities for adventure and new experiences in my most active years. Those were the days I could get on with my activities immediately without replenishing my loss of sleep from working on the aircraft. If you had the chance to be at a place you always wanted to go, would you go to sleep or jump at the opportunity to get down to your activities on a holiday? I was glad I made full use of my time and until today; it brings back countless fond memories and sense of achievement. At least, I could proudly announce I’ve skydived in Christchurch and ridden a camel in Egypt.

These days, however, I do feel a drop in my energy. Maybe it’s the work stress and personal expectations? Or is it due to age catching up? I feel more tired than ever even when I stick by 8 hours sleep nightly. Does the body system and resistance change so much in 10 years? I have spoken to many female friends who are working in the sales industry and corporate environment. Most are frequently tired and jaded from chasing numbers and in the journey to excel. Do you feel the same way? Any suggestions to what could be done to improve and regain the zest?

With stress building up, the body is also reacting hand in hand. Back and shoulder aches from the many hours in front of the computer, tired eyes, headaches etc. Priorities have changed. Instead of keeping myself updated on where’s the most happening club, my friends and I are constantly on the prowl for ways, products and food to improve our wellness. Birds of feathers flock together, so they say. We are clear it’s worth the time. We want praises in our later years for our efforts.

Our first investment in such products was in uZap. Each of us own this green, mean zapper. Subsequently, some of us bought the uSqueeze, iCare, and uPapa.

There’s a new product in the market by OSIM. It’s the uKimono, endorsed by the famous Taiwanese girl band, S.H.E. Have you seen or tried it? How is it doing for you?

I can see how I can further benefit from this enhanced version since I’m already a big fan of uZap. Pity the stock is not going to be replenished, according to the staff at OSIM Great World City. But fret not, there’s uKimono! I’m really excited about it. Will be writing about my experience with the colorful trios in my next article.

Stay tuned!
