We live in a time when “same old”…is “same old.” Don’t you want

We live in a time when “same old”…is “same old.” Don’t you want something completely different? We live in a world of massive technology and the best part about that is, for most of us, it is at the tips of our fingers! So why am I seeing the same things day in and day out?

The best way to make your business unique, is to make it “uniquely you!” This is YOUR business! Let it represent the best of you. There is something about you that is unique that people remember you for no matter what. What is it? It is worth a few moments of contemplation. It is probably not at all hidden, it is just that at this point, you have not thought of it from a Marketing Perspective.

With me, it’s my laugh. I have a “quirky” laugh that makes others want to join in and that is something that people do not forget. I remember being at a bridal shower 10+ years after High School and having a friends’ Mother emerge from another room saying, “Where is Holly? I just heard that laugh and it took me back 20 years!” I didn’t, until that point, recognize that something that is such a natural part of me was that memorable. Now I realize, we all have something, and it is a natural part of who we are born to be. If I want to be remembered, I involve laughter! My business has an element of fun involved as a result!

But it’s bigger than that! Without that laugh, people wouldn’t know it was me! If that part of me was missing, people would literally wonder what happened to me.

So I ask you, what is it about you that is naturally unforgettable? Is it your love of nature, golf, cars, fishing, photography? Are you naturally funny? I invite you to take a few moments and figure this out? If you are stumped, be brave and ask others what it is about you that is distinctly memorable?

I remember having computer problems and being frustrated over how to correct a certain issue. I went all over the valley talking to different computer people trying to get ideas of what was available. At one shop, the owner had tons of chess sets inside his shop. He loved chess! In discussing these sets with him he told me that in times when there wasn’t a lot of work in front of him, he would take an hour or so out of his day and list the sets on ebay. He would open late on a certain night and people would meet there for a game. He found a way to bring his love of chess into his work space. It is very easy to remember the things he told me and associate them to him because in a valley filled with computer people, he is the chess guy. That piece of uniqueness is an anchor to him.

Incorporating an element of individuality into your business life is what will make you stand out in the crowd as unique and be remembered by your clients! What is it for you? What is it that you have a natural love of that people remember you by? Bring more of that personal element into your work space and watch things develop! Incorporating unique parts of you into your business world develops joy in your day and gives your customers an anchor to remember you by!

It was really fun and exciting. I gathered all my courage just to ask the driver to teach me how to run a golf cart. I was really happy when he agreed to it. He let me sit in the driver’s seat and then he gave instructions on how to operate it. It really scared me when I stepped on the “go” sign because the cart immediately moved forward. The driver told me to step on it gently so that the cart will move slowly. Next, he taught me how to make a turn. It was really difficult because you have to turn the steering wheel really hard for the cart to make a turn. It was like a bump car! When I successfully made a turn, the driver taught me how to stop or use the break. I stepped on the “stop” sign and the cart stopped immediately. I was laughing really hard after I stepped out of the cart. That experience really made me feel like a child who just received her first toy.

While U2 are remembering The Unforgettable Fire on its 25th anniversary, a bunch of our @U2 staff spent some time last month remembering a different album: The Joshua Tree. It was part of a staff meetup that coincided with U2’s concert in Las Vegas. We met in Las Vegas the night before the concert and paid a visit to Fremont St., site of the video for “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” We saw the concert itself on October 23rd. The day after the concert, we made a pilgrimage out into the California desert to see the real Joshua Tree itself (which fell over back in 2000) and Zabriskie Point, site of the cover photo from The Joshua Tree.

It took a couple weeks, but our best photos and videos are now online, and you’re welcome to share in what we saw during a terrific weekend in the great southwest.

Hypothesis (prediction before the date): This Subject has been rather unremarkable to communicate with. He’s cordial and appropriate, but nothing about him stands out to me. I expect this Experiment to go like any other meet-and-greet between two young urban professionals (read: zero chemistry, flirtation or semblance of romance).

Materials (the guy, the place, any other variables):

He works for a medical company as a sales rep. He lives in this City and covers territories that are very local.

Two words: TAPAS and SUSHI. I am beyond excited about a fusion of sushi and tapas, two of my absolute most favorite types of food!!!

Procedures (omg what happened???): I’m seriously struggling to remember anything noteworthy from this Experiment, aside from the fact that the subject looked exactly like his profile picture. That’s a first! And a welcome one, since he wasn’t unattractive.

At this point I’ll take a break from recalling anything he said and focus on the food, because let’s face it: I love food and I know you people are into it too. The restaurant is BRAND new. Like, as we were leaving they gave us fliers to the grand opening that was being held the coming Saturday. So we were the only two customers there for the entire meal. Surprisingly, I was really excited for some Latin/Asian fusion, but that isn’t at all how the restaurant is set up. One side of the menu is tapas, the other side is sushi. And both were excellent. The tapas were very authentic Spanish, as opposed to some of the Cuban or South American tapas places I’ve visited. And the fish was fresh and melted in your mouth. Ok, now I’m hungry…

Most memorable part of the Experiment. Maybe I should be a restaurant review blogger instead of a blind date blogger?

Things I vaguely remember about the subject: He likes to golf, he likes the same football team as me, I think he has a sister, and I know he has a dad (does that count as paying attention, knowing he has a dad?), he knows a lot about babies and their poo since that’s his area of work. In fact, the junkies that hang around the Planned Parenthood in town want some of his product because it’s a white powder that they can cut with their junk, according to him. Oh! And he’s traveled a lot on his own, just like Subject#1. He’s been all over Europe and parts of South America, including – of course – Costa Rica.

Results (the good, the bad, and the ugly): It’s almost embarrassing how underwhelmed I was by this guy. He’s definitely nice and all, but completely undeserving of a second thought. The restaurant, however, is someplace I will be going again the next time I am conflicted between whether I want sushi or tapas. Let’s have both!

Conclusion (overall rating): This date is making me consider switching from being a blind date researcher to being a food critic. Seriously, I hope you weren’t as bored reading about this experiment as I was while on it. And I hope you aren’t as STARVING as I am writing about the yumminess of my favorite types of food! I give the date 4, with 3 of those points going for the restaurant.

When you can sing songs as Nat did, you don't need all those look-at-me riffs. Uploaded by warchild1

When you can sing songs as Nat did, you don't need all those look-at-me riffs. Uploaded by warchild13.com.

Is this the smoothest voice in American music history? I think you could make the case that it is. Nat is almost as popular today as he was in his prime, because everyone loves that voice. The amazing thing is that he made his name not as a singer, but as a jazz pianist. And he was great at that, too.

The King Cole Trio began performing in 1937, and was a big success in the L.A. area. Nat would sing between sets, and it wasn’t long before people were clamoring for more vocals.

Uploaded by mensxp.com.

His first hit record was “Straighten Up and Fly Right” in 1943. His last hit was “That Sunday, That Summer,” which happens to be one of my favorite Cole songs. In between, he hit the charts with such classics as “Mona Lisa,” “Too Young,” “The Very Thought of You,” “Smile,” “When I Fall in Love”, “A Blossom Fell,” “Ramblin’ Rose,” “Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer,” and of course the haunting “Unforgettable,” which his daughter Natalie inserted herself in and made a hit again in 1991.

If you look around the TV dial, you might happen upon broadcasts of The Nat King Cole Show from 1956-57. If you’re lucky enough to find them, you’ll see that Nat was a natural in front of the camera. The primary reason the show is memorable, though, is that it’s the first network broadcast (NBC) ever hosted by an African-American. Sadly, the series only lasted one year, largely due to lack of a sponsor willing to stand up and be identified with a black entertainer.

Oh, one more thing. It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, it’s always a good day to hear Nat’s iconic recording of Mel Torme’s “The Christmas Song”:

I love jazz. Over the next few days I want to share with you some of the great jazz songs I listen to.

The first is Natalie Cole’s ‘Unforgettable’.

Natalie Cole is the daughter of the exceptional jazz pianist Nat King Cole. In 2009 she made her stage comeback. Her latest album is ‘Still Unforgettable‘.

Lesson 1: A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doo

Lesson 1:

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings…

The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbour. Before she says a word, Bob says, ‘I’ll give you $800 to drop that towel.’

After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves. The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, ‘Who was that?’

‘It was Bob the next door neighbour,’ she replies.

‘Great,’ the husband says, ‘did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?’

Moral of the Story:
If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 2:

A priest offered a Nun a lift.

She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg. The priest nearly had an accident. After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg. The nun said, ‘Father, remember Psalm 129?’

The priest removed his hand. But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again. The nun once again said, ‘Father, remember Psalm 129?’

The priest apologized ‘Sorry sister but the flesh is weak.’

Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way. On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said, ‘Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory…’

Moral of the Story:
If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity.

Lesson 3:

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says, ‘I’ll give each of you just one wish.’

‘Me first! Me first!’ says the admin clerk. ‘I want to be in the Bahamas , driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.’ Puff! She’s gone.

‘Me next! Me next!’ says the sales rep. ‘I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.’ Puff! He’s gone.

‘OK, you’re up,’ the Genie says to the manager. The manager says, ‘I want those two back in the office after lunch.’

Moral of the Story:
Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 4

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing.

A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, ‘Can I also sit like you and do nothing?’

The eagle answered: ‘Sure, why not.’

So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the Story:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 5

A turkey was chatting with a bull.

‘I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree’ sighed the turkey, ‘but I haven’t got the energy.’

‘Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my droppings?’ replied the bull. ‘They’re packed with nutrients.’

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree. He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the Story:
Bull Shit might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there…

Lesson 6

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.

While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was… The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.

A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate… Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the Story:
(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.

(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.

(3) And when you’re in deep shit, it’s best to keep your mouth shut!

Caraibi – jerk chicken e conch chowder

On 25th Sept 2009 three of my friends and I went on a sudden trip to Trivandrum, we had Amma’s

On 25th Sept 2009 three of my friends and I went on a sudden trip to Trivandrum, we had Amma’s birthday in the campus and there was no accommodation left for us in order to make room for the visitors. We had packed the luggage, thinking of what to do next. The room where in we were told to shift was already occupied by eight guys, so we decided to leave the campus that instant and take a room outside. My room-mates went and searched for accommodation in the nearby town. But we got a some what better deal in Trivandrum. My room-mates (Ritchi and Sudhanshu) took their bike and started towards Trivandrum and me and Saurabh took the first train to Trivandrum that evening. We reached Trivandrum by 9:30 in the night and we were completely exhausted. Few things about Trivandrum that were different from the place where my University is are Auto Rickshaw fare (very low) and the place is also great.

In Trivandrum: We had our dinner from a restaurant nearby the place we stayed. While we all lay in the bed Ritchi got an idea of going to Kanyakumari, we were all shocked once, but this was one of the final opportunity were we all were there together and so near to the destination (it is just 88kms). So we agreed. We all got up by 8:00 in the morning. We had our laptops and internet, we quickly found out the places to visit in Kanyakumari and train timings. We locked our choice on one of the trains which was schedule to depart at around 10am. With just 2 hours in hand we somehow made it before time to the railway station. Ate our breakfast and off we went on a 1 day tour of Kanyakumari. Even though just 88kms it took 3 hours to reach there and reaching there filled our heart with joy we longed for entire three years of the stay in Kerala.

In Kanyakumari: On reaching Kanyakumari, I first booked our(mine and Saurabh’s) return ticket to college. After this we made a move towards the beach. We didn’t have camera, so tried to manage with cell phone’s camera having a dying battery. When we went, there was not much crowd in the ticket counter and thus the process to reach the ferry took a maximum of some 5mins, however when we returned we witnessed how much crowd can be there, the counter, lanes were overflowing. The ferry took us to the Vivekananda Rock first, well there is a Devi temple adjacent to the rock memorial. The place is well maintained and looks awesome. Also being in the sea, the speed of the wind was also high, we practically were sailing all the time in air. The view of deep blue sea from the rock was mesmerizing. There are few more things like a place for meditation, book store at the same place. After this we went to the statue of Saint Tiruvaluvar, the statue is 95 feet high and looks beautiful, it was built in 2000 and at the entrance there are many beautiful quotations on the walls. There is also a canteen there, we took some refreshment from there and continued our trip.

I can assure you one thing, there’ll never be a language problem in Kanyakumari, people from all the corners of the world come there and there are many shops that serve north Indian food. We stopped for lunch and then continued our tour to Gandhi Memorial, Kamraj Memorial, the Beach. We were wandering about and went to a small Church too. This was the first time I went to one, it was same for others too. Church are very convenient place, no need to open the shoes and you can wear whatever you want, but they are very spooky… We were eating snacks all the way. We were very sad that the we could not watch the places near Kanyakumari. There are lot of beautiful places around Kanyakumari, so if you are planning to visit, have a plan for 2 days and not just 1 like us. At 4:30pm we took a bus to Nagercoil, because its tough to get a bus to Kerala from Kanyakumari also the train are there in morning only. The bus journey was atrocious and we reached dead tired to Trivandrum. Even though in this state we could not stop talking about the trip. We had dinner and walked all the way to the place where we stayed, it was apparently about 5-6 kms away from the hotel we ate.

Back In Trivandrum: This day I though of finishing some of my pending work of the college, we all ate lunch together (didn’t have breakfast because we were sleeping then), after that Ritchi and Sudhanshu took the bike and went to Kovalam beach, I had already visited the beach so didn’t go and Saurabh followed the suit. On the final day we were very tired and just stayed in room. All of us played Quake in LAN. At 5:30 Saurabh and I boarded the train back where as the other two went on the bike.

Even though the circumstances where tough and the trip was completely unplanned, we enjoyed every single moment of what we call it was a truly unforgettable trip….

it all started when i went with my friend rakesh to anna university to attend the mba counselling on behalf of my sister she was abroad that time..she got seat in anna university for the marks she scored in the entrance..it was for mba in correspondence..she has to attend just a class or two in a month..just when i registered her for anna university, her mom called me and asked me to choose a college near our area, so it ll be easy for her to go..but then i had chose CEG already.. i said her like don worry i ll accompany sister when she got class..i said it for fun then..but didn expect it ll happen..it happened last weekend..i had to attend a seminar in anna university, the same day as her first mba class..so, we decided to go together..i didn expect it ll happen till it did.. ( almost everything i really wish to happen, usually doesn’t but this is an expection ) 20 of my class were attending that seminar..i told em like i ll be coming with my sister and meet up at anna univ..they started early..by the time we started, the guys were long gone..we finally took a bus to reach halfway..my frens messaged me asking where was i..i was jus crossing my area then..if i had told em that, i would ve got lotta good words from em ..so,i thought better not to reply..we talked all the way in the bus..or should i say i talked all the way..she was a bit tired from work the day before and was a bit sleepy ( dunno if my talk made her sleep ) we reached anna univ right on time..my friends reached nearky an hour early and was waiting for me..i managed without getting any scolds.. the seminar went well for me, i told her ll meet up for lunch..but they served us free lunch at the seminar ( it was good too..we had paid 300 for the day and the certificate ) but had to skip it.. for my sis i got my lunch and gave it to the guys and went to meet sis..we had lunch in the canteen..she had waited in the looong queue to get lunch for me too.. ( sweet of her ) we finished and was to meet after my seminar got over..the afternoon session was too borin..i had to wait for the certificate to be issued..i didn pay 300 bucks for nothing..her class got over an hour b4 mine and she was waiting for me ..we decided to take the train back..we got a train the minute we got into the station..we boarded, then a lady police asked me to get down..i asked if it was a ladies compartment but then the whole train for ladies it seems..come on, they even get a train for their own and they still fight for some 33%..i think we guys are the ones who should fight..it was drizzling and the journey was great..guys took the bus..we reached nearly an hour b4 em this time.. it was great being with my sis..( i always wanted a sister in my life and she filled it perfectly..i love calling her as my sis.. ) well, a wonderful weekend..no other word to describe it..hope i get to go next time too.. fingers crossed..all upto u yagna akka!

I haven’t ever read books like these before. The author says it took years to get them (The Unfolding – Volumes I and II) done, because events were taking place so fast,it was hard to keep up with the fulfillments of the predictions (or prophecies as they are called), that are to be found in that book so few of us are reading anymore …the Bible. It seems the oldest versions are most accurate as many verses have been removed from the newer versions. I needed to know that. I think I’ll stick with the King James version, or a Parallel Bible with four translations side by side for now anyway. There’s so much to discover! However, I’m being enlightened and prepared for the future as I read. I really think we all owe it to ourselves to find out what is going to happen tomorrow! Of course the tomorrow may be still a few years off, but the way things are speeding up, I wonder….

The feeling was ecstatic. It was not a dream. It was real – very real. I have wished for it many times – and yes! I finally did. I shook the hands of the man himself – for the very first time. I shook hands with Brother Eli Soriano.

December 27, 2004 is one unforgettable date for me. After thanksgiving, I leaped from where I was sitting and began wandering throughout the Convention Center. “Who knows?” I said to myself. “Baka makita ko si Bro. Eli!” (I might see Bro. Eli!) While walking, I passed by several stalls and booths and looked cheerfully at the displays. Almost two or three hours had passed since the dismissal, but there were still a lot of people bound home. The assembly is really getting bigger.

After minutes of promenading, I noticed a small crowd gathered in front of a food stall. “Ano kaya ‘yun?” (What could that be?). I hurried my way, and as I got nearer to the spot, it became clearer to me what was causing the small “rally”. Bro. Eli, in a pink polo and white knee-length ‘puruntong’, was distributing “pancit” (stir-fried noodles) to the brethren.

Without second thoughts, I pushed myself into the crowd. Getting through was very difficult as more people poured in, not much for the “pancit”, but to see and speak with Bro. Eli even for just a few minutes. I could see brethren excitedly hugging him and taking pictures of him. Just like faithful Zaccheus who climbed a sycamore to see Jesus Christ, I made my way through the spaces until I could see the goal I was after. And I thought I will not be able to breathe again.

I waited until it was my turn to shake his hand. With a “Kumusta po, Bro. Eli?” I did it. It gave me so much joy I couldn’t help crying when I left. As I related the experience to my friends, they too felt happy and told me I was very lucky. I felt quite blessed knowing that I shook hands with whom I know is God-sent.

I have done a lot of handshakes before, but this one is different. From politicians to laymen, this particular handshake is a top-grosser. The feeling is unexplainable but extremely gratifying. Somehow, the experience comforted me, because it was not only the handshake that gave me a lingering impression. Bro. Eli possesses one of the most genuinely sweet and contagious smiles, which, I wonder, made me cry. For what I know, the kind of man he is who is attractive and prone to problems would not give an easy life for anyone. Someone in a similar situation will be wretched if racked with the kind of his troubles. Yet his gentleness is remarkably undisturbed, as if he was saying, “I’m okay. Don’t worry. God is good, and He’ll make everything alright.”

His smile maybe just an ordinary one for others, but its meaning is profound – one thing bound for the books. His gesture made me understand how a Christian should bravely face scourging times, yet always being thankful. Indeed, he is one tough man. God taught him so well.

That incident remains vivid in my mind. I don’t know if it will happen again, (short of saying ‘I hope it does’). Whatever happens, I’m sure to treasure the lesson I’ve seen and learned from that one little handshake – rejoice in tribulation, be glad in affliction. Nothing can stop the resolute Christian spirit.

One thing more – he has baby-soft hands – so soft they’re such envy for me. I wonder what his secret is.

Kudos, Bro. Eli! Glory unto God!
