WASHINGTON, D.C. — For those who have asked why JINSA has kept Honduras in the spotlight since June, this is why: small democratic countries trying mightily to exercise legitimate governance and self-determination deserve our vocal support even – or especially – when they do things the U.S. would prefer they didn’t.

Honduras is one of these countries, as is Israel. We have been surprised by the lack of Israeli interest in the democratic exercise of sovereign rights by Honduras, and especially in the lack of interest in the pressure exerted by the U.S. government to force compliance with America’s wishes.

The presidential and legislative election held in Honduras on Sunday provides an opportunity for American administration to walk back its decision to punish the small, poor Central American country for ousting its then-president Manuel Zelaya last June as he tried to pave the way for multiple terms, in violation of the Honduran constitution. The election included only candidates nominated long before Zelaya’s ouster – and the interim president, who was never a candidate, removed himself from public view in the last week of the campaign.

The first decision of Team Obama back then was knee-jerk support for the radical line – joining Chavez, Ortega and Castro calling the ouster, authorized by the Honduran Supreme Court and legislature, a coup. Then, in swift succession a) agreeing to the suspension of Honduras from the OAS; b) withdrawing accreditation from Honduran Ambassador Roberto Flores; c) withholding foreign aid; d) threatening Honduran access to previously awarded Millennium Challenge grants; e) refusing a diplomatic visa to the interim president for his visit to the UN General Assembly (a violation of UN rules); and e) using the American Ambassador in Honduras as point man to threaten Honduras’s future relations with Washington.

It was distinctly more American pressure than was applied to the Iranian government as it stole an election and punished demonstrators with arrest, torture and death.

The interim Honduran government, plus most of the arms of authority in the country – the legislature, the Supreme Court, the Catholic Church and the Human Rights Commission – held fast to the belief that their constitution mattered. And after Senate Republicans held up the nominations of two Obama appointees for State Department Latin America posts, the Administration was pressured into turning to Costa Rica’s Oscar Arias to try to hammer out an agreement between Zelaya and the interim government.

A four-point plan emerged, giving the Honduran legislature and Supreme Court the lead in determining their own country’s future and obliging the U.S. and the OAS to sanction yesterday’s election. The legislature will meet on 2 December to determine the fate of Zelaya and his failed attempt to hijack the country. The interim president has said he will respect the legislature’s decision – even if it brings Zelaya back to complete his term until the January handover of power to the newly elected president.

Oscar Arias told the AP that he believes other Central and South American nations will respect the Honduran vote – Costa Rica will, he promised. Brazil, Argentina and others have said they may not – claiming the election would only ratify the “coup.” This is blatant interference in the internal affairs of a neighboring country, and the U.S., still the most important player in the hemisphere, should be quick to declare where it stands.

If it stands on the side of Honduras, all could be well that ends well.

We often call Israel the canary in the coal mine of Western, liberal democracy. Honduras may prove to be the canary in Israel’s coal mine.

Catholic School Students write and perform moving play

MELBOURNE – Year 8 and 9 at a Victorian country Catholic College recently wrote and performed a play “Our Shoah” which they presented to packed audience.

The background of this that a teacher at the school was awarded a scholarship for a three week Holocaust Study course at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, a project that has been running for some seven years on an annual basis sponsored by
a Melbourne based B’nai B’rith Unit, the Raoul Wallenberg Unit. A number of history teachers are awarded this scholarship every year, providing a fully funded scholarship.

On her return she shared her knowledge with her students who were inspired to write a play about a Jewish family in Germany and their fate during the period lof the Holocaust. Both the script, backed by an audio-visual presentation was extremely moving and descriptive. It is an amazing achievement from
students , from a country town, who most likely had never met a Jewish person before, and had not heard of the Holocaust.

The Pauline Glass Momorial Yad Vashem Scholarship has produced some very positive results in assisting to pass on the facts about the Holocaust to a new generation of Australian school students, and in a small, but significant
way combat the poison the Holocaust denyers are trying spread.

This year twelve teachers will be travelling to Israel in January under the scheme.

New Polish Jewish group strengthens ties

MELBOURNE- A new organisation of Polish Jews in Australia aims to strengthen ties between Jewish and mainstream communities in Poland, as well as among Jews and non-Jewish of Polish descent locally.

President Bernard Korbman told said the reason for the creation of the Australian Society of Polish Jews and Their Descendants (ASPJ), which has a membership of around 50 primarily “second-generation” people the children of Shoah survivors was because “the time was right”.

The group also has survivors among its ranks, including David Prince and Moish Fiszman, who are on its board.

According to Korbman, the organisation, which held its first annual general meeting on November 17, is a successor to the former Australian
chapter of the postwar Federation of Polish Jews, pioneered by communal figures such as Aron Sokolowicz.

ASPJ is also a descendant of the landsmanshaften, which underpinned Australia’s Polish-Jewish community from the 1940s onwards, but which are now in decline because of the aging of survivors. It was the generation that established
the Jewish Holocaust Centre, of which Korbman is executive director.

“The children did not get involved and take over from their parents,” he said. “We all felt Australian and [we] did not want to be known as Polish Jews, it meant very little to us. But as we’ve aged, some of the second generation have started to want to know more and learn about our roots.”

Interest has been re-ignited by developments such as the March of the Living, the fall of communism and renewed interest from Poles generally in their country’s Jewish history.

ASPJ has forged ties with the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, which will open in Warsaw in 2011, and Andrew Rachjer, an ASPJ member, is also a member of the museum’s board.

When Korbman visited Poland in 2006, he was “inundated by young Poles who wanted to learn more about Judaism and Jews and [he] gave lectures at universities.”

Korbman said strengthening ties between Australian Jewish and non-Jewish communities of Polish ancestry needs to be achieved “without in any way whitewashing the history of the Holocaust and the relationship between Poles and Jews and anti-Semitism but we want to focus on the 1000-year history of Jews in Poland,” which he hailed as an age of culture, learning and long periods of peaceful development.

Meanwhile, he added, Jews and non-Jews of Polish descent in Australia need to hold “frank and honest dialogue” to break down stereotypes of each other’s communities.

Gold Coast community shocked by rabbi’s sudden death

GOLD COAST, Queensland – The Gold Coast Jewish community and Jews around Australia are in mourning following the death of Temple Shalom’s Rabbi Jackie Wexler on November 21.

The 56-year-old, who suffered from food allergies, had apparently been admitted to hospital with an allergic reaction and diverticulitis some days earlier. She succumbed to a severe infection and cardiac arrest.

The Conservative rabbi arrived in Australia from the US in 2008 on a two-year contract to lead Temple Shalom.

The synagogue’s distraught president, Kate Lesser, said the congregation had been in close contact with Rabbi Wexler’s family in the US since her death.

“As a community, we have just lost our core,” she said.

Union for Progressive Judaism (UPJ) executive director Steve Denenberg said: “We learnt of the news of her passing with great shock and our whole movement is grieving. We said special prayers for her over the weekend.”

Rabbi Wexler once said of her calling as a rabbi, that at the age of 17, “I knew without a doubt this is what I was meant to be,” although Conservative Judaism at that time did not allow women to be rabbis.

Gaining her s’micha from the Conservative movement’s Jewish Theological Seminary in the 1990s, she worked with congregations in Florida and on Long Island, New York. In August last year, she took up her Australian appointment as a rabbi.

Discussions on extending Rabbi Wexler’s contract were about to take place, Denenberg said.

He said Rabbi Wexler had missed a rabbinical meeting preceding the UPJ’s six-monthly gathering in Sydney last week because she had been unwell.

Arrangements are being made to ensure a rabbi will be present for b’nei mitzvah taking place at Temple Shalom in the coming weeks.

“As soon as is appropriate, we will convene a search committee to look for a long-term replacement,” Denenberg said.

Rabbi Wexler is survived by her children, her mother and a sister, who all live in the United States.

Mumbai Survivor marks anniversary of massacre

CANBERRA – Australian students were among thousands worldwide who commemorated the first anniversary of the Mumbai terrorist attacks
with a communal Shabbat dinner.

A global directive by Chabad on Campus in New York, “Bring a Friend Shabbat” aimed to be the largest campus-based Shabbat celebration and was
held in memory of Rabbi Gavriel and Rivkah Holtzberg, who were Chabad shluchim (emissaries).

The couple, together with four others, were murdered in Nariman House, the headquarters of Chabad in Mumbai, on November 26, 2008.

In all, more than 170 people were killed over three days of terrorism in the tourist districts of the city.

Moshe Holtzberg, the infant son of Rabbi Gavriel and Rivkah Holtzberg, meanwhile, was spirited to safety by the Holtzbergs’ Indian nanny, Sandra Samuel.

Hailed as “a child of all Israel”, the toddler marked his third birthday at a gathering in Kfar Chabad on November 18.

Two thousand people attended the event, held to remember the victims and to see Moshe have his first haircut in accordance with religious tradition.

According to Samuel, it took some time for Moshe to recover from the attack, and he can now look at pictures of his parents without crying.

In Melbourne, Chabad Campus’ Rabbi Daniel and Sara Rabin organised a special dedication to the Holtzbergs. Rabbi Rabin honoured Rivkah’s love of
Shabbat with an intimate Shabbat dinner for 20 students.

At the meal, participants were encouraged to spend a few quiet moments reflecting on a personal resolution in memory of the slain rabbi and his wife.

“If 10 people could cause so much chaos and tragedy,” he said, referring to the gunmen and hostage takers, “then 20 positive resolutions could change the world for good.”

Rabbi Rabin also honoured Rabbi Holtzberg’s love of scholarship and learning, by dedicating his weekly shiur to self-sacrifice and Jewish pride.

Meanwhile in Canberra, a ceremony to commemorate the victims of the Mumbai terrorist attack one year ago was held at the National Jewish Memorial Centre last week.

In particular, the slain Chabad emissaries were remembered at the event, which was organised jointly by Chabad of the ACT, the Israeli embassy and the ACT Jewish Community.

ACT Jewish Community president Dr Anita Shroot, Israeli embassy deputy chef de mission Eli Yerushalmi and Rabbi Dan Avital spoke at the memorial, and local resident Donald Chambers lit a candle.

New president for Rabbinical Council of Victoria

MELBOURNE – Rabbi Yaakov Glasman has been elected to replace Rabbi Meir Shlomo Kluwgant as president of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria (RCV).

After five years in the top job, Rabbi Kluwgant was required to step down, handing the baton to one of Melbourne’s youngest senior rabbis, Rabbi Glasman.

The North Eastern Jewish Centre rabbi edged out one of Melbourne’s most experienced senior rabbis, Rabbi Philip Heilbrunn, to win the presidency, held at the RCV’s annual general meeting on November 25.

Caulfield Hebrew Congregation’s Rabbi Ralph Genende was elected vice president.

Rabbi Glasmann said: “It’s gratifying to know that my colleagues have expressed their confidence in me to assume the position of RCV president.”

He said his ambitions for the organisation are twofold: to continue the work already underway and to engage Jewish youth.

Rabbis and community leaders farewelled Rabbi Kluwgant at the AGM, giving him a standing ovation.

He has overseen a revamp of the RCV that delivered the rabbinic body extra clout and extra funding, in the form of substantial government grants.

In one of his last duties as president, Rabbi Kluwgant met last week with Victorian Premier John Brumby to thank him for his support for the state’s Orthodox rabbis.

Unfortunately though, Rabbi Kluwgant was unable to leave his post in a blaze of glory, with one of his pet projects, compulsory pre-nuptial agreements for Jewish wedding, voted down at the AGM. Instead, rabbis will recommend couples consider a pre-nuptial agreement.

Grandson recalls protest against Nazism

MELBOURNE – Aboriginal elder William Cooper’s grandson, Alfred “Uncle Boydie” Turner, was the guest speaker at the UIA’s AGM in Melbourne on November 26.

Cooper, of Yorta Yorta descent, spent most of his life in the Cummeragunja community where he was a spokesman for the Yorta Yorta in their ongoing
battles for land justice against the New South Wales government. Late in life, he resettled in Melbourne.

In 1938, following Kristallnacht, Cooper petitioned the German Consulate over the Nazis’ treatment of the Jews, the only such recorded protest in Australia at that time.

In May 2009, the State of Israel commemorated the brave actions of Cooper.

The Embassy of Israel and United Israel Appeal flew Turner to Israel for this commemoration and he spoke to the AGM about his experience.

More delays in Zentai extradition

PERTH – Alleged war crimes suspect Charles Zentai has launched legal action that
will delay plans to extradite him to Hungary to face charges over a World War II murder.

Lawyers for the 88-year-old have been granted a judicial review of this month’s ministerial decision that gave the green light for the Perth resident to be sent to Budapest.

A Hungarian court wants Zentai to face charges in connection with the beating and murder of Budapest teenager Peter Balazs, whose body was dumped in the Danube in 1944.

A spokesperson for Home Affairs Minister Brendan O’Connor told The AJN the department will delay giving effect to its extradition ruling until after the Federal Court reviews the decision. That process must begin no later than December 4.

But there is no timeframe for the review, which could overturn O’Connor’s November 12 determination.

Zentai, who remains in prison in Perth, has maintained he is not guilty, and his lawyers have fought to keep him in Australia ever since the charges were laid in 2005.

Inertia, rather than conscious policy, often influences the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

JERUSALEM—What has Israel contributed to the impasse in the peace process, and to the suffering of Palestinians?

That is a question several have asked me, often with a follow up charging that I have not responded.

I have responded, more than once. Those convinced of Israeli culpability either have not understood my English, or they are not satisfied with my explanations. When I do not list the severe errors that they hold dear, they accuse me of evading the question.

Israelis have made no shortage of accusations against their own government for “missing opportunities.” Usually this means not offering enough, or not taking advantage of the possibilities of Palestinian receptivity with a generous offer.

No doubt Israel has not made its offers attractive enough. The question is, could Israel have offered enough to satisfy Palestinians and other Arabs, and lessened restrictions on the West Bank and Gaza, without endangering its own security?

Could it have gone after the really bad people, and allowed other Palestinians freedom of movement, including opportunities to work in Israel?

To those questions there is no absolute yes or no.

Moreover, it is overly simple to discuss “Israel” as a policymaking entity, just as it is overly simple to discuss “The United States” or any other democracy.

Democracies have dominant policymakers, but those individuals cannot overlook the pressures received from domestic allies and antagonists, the constraints of economics and international politics. Israel’s political spectrum is wide and boisterous, with demands for spending more on social services or doing more to pursue peace with the neighbors. There are religious Jews more concerned with observing the Sabbath than anything else, intense religious nationalists who feel they have a deed from the Almighty for the whole of Eretz Israel, and young couples, with or without a religious motivation, who want the best housing they can acquire for the least money.

One result of all these pressures is about 500,000 Israeli Jews living on land that Palestinians claim as their own. For numerous Palestinians, all Israelis are living on Palestinian land.

There may have been missed opportunities since the crucial events of 1948 and than 1967, but they have not been obvious.

Israeli policymakers have generally not moved any more heroically or decisively than policymakers in other democracies. Israel has limped along following what its officials perceived as opportunities and constraints, rather than conducting a thorough analysis of the present and future, then an assiduous pursuit of a rational strategy. Over the years settlers have demanded construction, suburbanites have demanded homes on cheap land, Palestinians have not come forward with attractive offers, and inertia has done its work. Politicians typically do what is easiest, not what one or another group of deep thinkers with controversial ideas claim is wisest.

Occasionally there is an heroic moment in politics, but often they end badly. Remember John Kennedy ordering an escalation of American involvement in Vietnam, and George W. Bush invading Iraq and Afghanistan with aspirations to make them stable democracies?

Among the tough nuts currently facing those who would bring peace to the Holy Land are those half a million Jews living where others do not want them. No one should expect a Jewish government to move them, especially after the removal of a few thousand Jews from Gaza brought rockets instead of peace.

Those faulting the Israeli government for missing opportunities have their favorite moments when they are convinced peace was at hand. Camp David in 2000 was one of those. Analysts quarrel about offers made, Palestinian responses, the presence or lack of counter offers, or whether the whole thing was made hopeless by the Palestinian narrative of being the sole party that has suffered, and having the weight of Islam on their side.

Without trying the impossible of solving this or other disputes about moments in history, I have no trouble faulting the Palestinians for mistakes greater than those of the Israelis. It has not be wise for them to insist on what the side with greater power has viewed as unacceptable: the right of refugees and their families to return, and 1967 borders. They have spoiled their chances further by incitement of their own people, and violence against Israeli civilians. The result is a profound lack of trust, which threatens the viability of any negotiations.

The claimed “punishment” of all Palestinians because of a few bad applies is another issue without a simple answer. Armies do not operate like the local police. They do not have complete control over the population, and the people they would arrest have the means to resist them. Are the Israelis less considerate of the local population than other active armies? The question provokes loud claims rather than conclusive answers. The Goldstone Report on Gaza demonstrates predetermined conclusions and reliance on questionable testimony that renders it a hostile document rather than anything reliable.

Is Gaza the world’s largest prison, as claimed by those thinking they are on the moral high ground?

Blockade is a conventional way of warfare, not objectionable when waged against an enemy who targets one’s own civilians, and fails to provide a prisoner the elementary rights assured by the rules of warfare. The IDF monitors levels of food, fuel and medications allowed into Gaza. Reports are that the people eat better, and are healthier than those in much of the Third World. Part of the explanation is the United Nations, which had been providing food, housing and medical care for 60 years, as well as protection for fighters and stores of munitions in its facilities. The Palestinians suffer as a result of all that assistance, insofar as they have been kept from looking after themselves.

You have heard of welfare dependence. The Palestinians represent the world’s worst case.

Add Obama to the problems currently facing both sides. He has lessened whatever meager prospects there were by his overreaching demand of a total freeze of settlement building, including Jewish neighborhoods of Jerusalem, and then backing down and praising Israel’s partial compliance. The combination has turned both the Israelis and the Palestinians against him, lessened his credibility as a mediator and the prospects of peace in the near future.

There have been several years of relative quiet, considerable economic development, and fewer Israeli incursions into Palestinian areas of the West Bank. If Palestinians can see those signs as better than violence, it may help to keep the heroes out of action. The crucial element of trust among Palestinians as well as Israelis may then grow to the point where meaningful negotiations are feasible.

Detainee Abuse

In any country, the lion’s share of independency is always withheld by the respective government even though the country is said to be a modern democratic country. When we witness such an unjust specially on the name of ‘greatest national interest’, it means we’re deprived of our rights. This time it’s not directly the Pakistan or Pakistanis deprived of their rights. On this opportunity related to the Justice Department of US, the de facto greatest national interest is about the detainee abuse that the photos of detainee abuse wouldn’t be released in as much as, and as said by President Barack Obama, it could whip up anti-American sentiment overseas and endanger US troops abroad, mostly in Afghanistan and Iraq. It should be noted that absolute majority of the detainees are foreigners and not the US citizens.

In a wake of organized demands by American Civil Liberties Union from the US Justice Department, the Federal Law has recently been modified in the mid of November 2009 on the name of greatest national interest. The new Federal Law, as stated by the High Court of US, says that the detainee abuse pictures would be withheld by the US Government.

The country that is said to have been a high-mettled supporter of democracy and justice and thus preaching the rest of the world to promote democracy and justice has itself been convoluted in the breaching of its own set of rules and collection of laws. This is what we call an apex hypocrisy that is blotted out on the name of de facto greatest national interest.

As the President Barack Obama said that the pictures of detainee abuse would give a rise to anti-American sentiment overseas, I ask: even withholding the pics, does the government of US could help itself subduing the voice of all those who raise their voice against the atrocities of US for a de jure reason? From another point of view, a host of Pakistanis — supporter of enlightened modernization — presume that having anti-American views makes one a Jamat-e-Islami activist, a fundamentalist or an extremist. But the Ghairat Brigade of Pakistan, sometimes or rather often snub the fact that 52% of Americans, contemporarily, want all their troops back home — the troops fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Ghairat Brigade of Pakistan wouldn’t call American Civil Liberties Union as extremist, fundamentalist or Jamat-e-Islami propagandist. But endorsing the cause of American Civil Liberties Union i.e. raising voice against the atrocities of American Government would make a Pakistani one of these three: Jamat-e-Islami activist, a fundamentalist or an extremist. This is how we’re — the Illah MashaAllah Ghairat Brigade of Pakistan.

So far, the American Civil Liberties Union has said that it’ll continue fighting for the photos’ release. I’m supporting the cause of ACLU and raising the voice against the heinous crimes the Government of America commits. You may call me a Jamat-e-Islami propagandist, a fundamentalist or an extremist. I really don’t care.

Iran announces plans for 10 new nuclear sites

TEHRAN (WJC)–In defiance of the international community, the Iranian Cabinet headed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ordered the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran to begin construction of five uranium enrichment sites and propose five other sites for future construction within two months.

The head of the nuclear body, Iranian Vice-President Ali Akbar Salehi, told state media that Tehran had had no intention of building the new nuclear facilities until it was rebuked by the Board of Directors of the International Atomic Energy Agency last week over its nuclear activities.

Currently, Iran has only one industrial enrichment plant in operation, near the town of Natanz. It is building a second site near the city of Qom, which was kept secret until September. “We had no intention of building many facilities like the Natanz site, but apparently the West doesn’t want to understand Iran’s peaceful message,” Salehi said, adding that the IAEA resolution, sponsored by Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States, had left no option for Iran but to give a firm response.

Iran aims to generate 20,000 megawatts of electricity through nuclear power plants in the next 20 years. Iranian officials claim the new enrichment facilities are needed to produce enough fuel for its future nuclear power plants. Ahmadinejad told his Cabinet that Iran would need to install 500,000 centrifuges at the planned facilities to produce between 250 to 300 tons of nuclear fuel annually.

Demjanjuk war crimes trial underway in Munich

MUNICH, Germany (WJC)–The trial of Ukrainian-born Ivan Demjanjuk, 89, who is accused of helping to murder 27,900 Jews in the Sobibor Nazi death camp during World War II, began here Monday, marking the final chapter of 30 years of efforts to prosecute the retired autoworker.

Demjanjuk was deported from Ohio in May after his US citizenship was revoked. He could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted for his alleged activities as a guard at the Sobibor camp in occupied Poland.

However, in deference to his fragile health, the trial at the Munich state court has been limited to two 90-minute sessions per day. In the 1980s Demjanjuk was extradited by the United States for trial in Israel on charges that he was the notoriously brutal guard “Ivan the Terrible” at the Treblinka camp He was sentenced to death in 1988 for war crimes and crimes against humanity, and spent seven years in prison until Israel’s Supreme Court in 1993 overturned the conviction. It ruled that another person, not Demjanjuk, was actually “Ivan the Terrible.”

Demjanjuk, a former Soviet Red Army soldier, is now accused of volunteering to serve as a guard under the Nazi SS after being taken prisoner by the Nazis in 1942. According to the prosecutors’ indictment, he served as a low-ranking guard at Sobibor which meant – even with no living witnesses who can implicate him in specific acts of brutality or murder – he had pushed thousands of Jewish men, women and children to their death in the gas chambers. Demjanjuk maintains he was never at Sobibor and questions the authenticity of the main piece of evidence – an SS identity card that prosecutors say features a photo of a young Demjanjuk.

The trial, which has attracted large media interest, is expected to last until May 2010. Over 30 people are listed as joint plaintiffs and expected to testify about what happened at Sobibor, where 250,000 people were murdered.

Thomas Blatt, whose younger brother and parents were killed at Sobibor, traveled from his American home to follow the trial. “It is important to hear the testimony of those times, for young people to truly know the meaning of the hell on earth that was Sobibor. The stink of carbon monoxide, the naked little children going to be gassed, the flames that licked out of the furnace chimney as all you knew and loved evaporated before your eyes. Demjanjuk is not an old man who deserves pity but who should come to terms with what he did,” he told the British newspaper ‘Daily Mirror’.

To be or not to be – a War Correspondent

When the United States of America invaded Iraq on March 19^th 2003, Denesia Morariu decided she was going to be a war correspondent. She was only 16 but she never forgets the date.

“It was so unfair. I didn’t agree with that,” said a serious Morariu with conviction.

Morariu felt convinced that this would be her path so she could tell the stories of the people at the heart of the war primarily because she felt the media was failing in this regard.

“We were not hearing about the 150,000 people there who died but everyone was talking about the 400 soldiers who were killed.”

But her uncle who got caught up in the bloody 1989 Revolution in her native Romania tried to dissuade her.

At the time he was a stubborn student who insisted on joining the fight for freedom. But he was traumatised by the mayhem he saw in the capital Bucharest. A little girl who had been shot, and whom he held in his arms, died.

Morariu remained unfazed.

Change of heart

For five years, being a war correspondent was all she spoke about.

All that changed however, earlier this year when she embarked on a journalistic project for her professional portfolio.

She approached a news agency with the idea of writing several articles on war correspondents who had covered the said Romanian Revolution.

It was a pivotal point in her life.

“Those people I talked to really impressed me a lot. Many of them said they cried to see people fighting for freedom. Fighting for an idea. And they said ‘we went there and we were happy to talk about that” said Morariu.

Dawning

Then it dawned on her that she’d rather report on revolutions or people’s struggles for freedom.

She decided that being a war correspondent meant she would never be able to achieve balance and tell both sides of the story.

Instead, she feels it would result in having to take the “strong side” or the side of the army, that she’d probably have to travel with to cover a war-ravaged area.

For Morariu, to take any side is “unfair” and would be contrary to her initial reasons for wanting to be a war correspondent.

So nowadays, instead of daydreaming about telling the untold stories of people in war-torn regions, Morariu muses about covering foreign policy in Russia and the Middle East.

Deflation Protagonists versus Inflation Antagonists

Let’s recap the debate. The golden rule of media opining seems to be to temper one’s beliefs: if one is 100% sure about something, say, “I’m pretty sure about… ”, if one is 99% sure about something, say, “I’m perhaps leaning towards…” For everything else, just keep your mouth shut – which is why the spats being publicly aired on inflation versus deflation are exceptional entertainment.

Pro-Inflation

In one corner fume the Inflationists, some of whom (like Faber) have emerged, screaming blue murder about the exploding Monetary Base and meteoric asset price inflation. I commented on the 28th October on Faber’s remark that, “any central body can always create inflation if they wish – they just have to destroy their currency”. Some (like Martenson) have more controversial, conspiratory, secular views – suggesting that there exists a systematic inflationary creep concurrent with a dependency on debt and debasement of official data (see comment on 5th November). One interesting angle I see, in this respect, is the backward causality of the current economic system which I highlighted on the 4th November – in particular referencing the bastardization of our economic model from my comments on the 29th October, where I wrote:

This is because, in countries like the US and the UK: rising asset prices beget rising consumer confidence, which begets rising corporate profits which beget a stronger economy and thus higher employment rates. Contrast this to more traditional economic causality where: a fundamentally stronger economy was the foundation for productivity, which then fueled higher consumer confidence and thus rising stock prices. I’ve long been a skeptic of the relevance of consumer confidence numbers in the US (I think they’re more a reflection of the stock market preceding them than the other way around) and this new backward, bastardized economic ideology only reinforces this.

The argument suggests that we have encouraged an economic model so hollow, we are now dependent on the, rather superficial, “wealth effect” of asset prices to effect the transmission of an explosive Monetary Base (at the banks) into tangible Money Supply (in the real economy). There is an inherent precariousness surrounding the value of the Dollar in this view – especially against hard assets and precious metals.

Pro-Deflation

Recently, it feels as though more and more economists have fallen into the deflation camp – as, one by one, analysts like Whitney groups like Eclectica point to huge credit contraction, employment slack and appear to make increasingly pessimistic remarks on the ability of the Fed to reflate the economy (especially given the sheer size of ammunition that has been fired at an apparently immoveable object of deflation with such little effect), even Mauldin is shuffling towards the Dark Side. On 26th November I wrote: “is it just me or is there a worryingly ominous deflationary creep encroaching into our investment psyche?” It’s a fascinating debate. There are, of course, the eternal deflationists, like Rosenberg, who have consistently pointed to clear dissections of the numbers – which show little for the inflation-happy crowd to be optimistic about. There are also a massive demographic issues in an ageing population, mortgage-resets coming due and the 300lb Gorilla-in-the-room of potential diversification out of the US Dollar by surplus nations (led by China) – all of which point to the fact that time and options are running short for the Fed.

Pro-Everything

So everyone is breaking the rule of media opining – at least almost everyone. The media-savvy boys at PIMCO are being typically elusive and stick their necks out only in ambivalence. While McCulley talks about the inflationary tactics in his piece the The Uncomfortable Dance Between V’ers and U’ers – which I highlighted in my 11th November comment, El-Erian and Gross cannot help themselves to more deflationary warnings on the precariousness of Dollar confidence. Which highlights a subtle point: the Fed accepts a Dollar devaluation in an orderly fashion, as a controlled devaluation is inflationary. However, a disorderly collapse in the Dollar would have inevitable deflationary consequences.

Of course there are the blood-lust antagonists, a group to which I have great devotion. We all like to see a good fight, afterall! Bill Bonner and the Daily Reckoning mob are perhaps more specific: they see Deflation first only to be followed by Hyperinflation. Either way, they believe, like Rosenberg, we are still in a Depression – not a genuine economic rebound. But I am neither that intelligent, nor am I that ethically righteous. As far as the Inflation/Deflation debate is concerned, while I’d love to believe in Inflation (let’s pray we get it), I’m not 99% sure either way – so I just want to provoke the argument in the hope that some clarity will emerge from the skirmish.

Macro Data to Watch:

Japanese Industrial Production – already out (it was disappointing: +0.5% vs +2.5% survey estimate)
South Korea Industrial Production – slipped on a banana skin and came out negative.
Indian GDP better than expected at +7.9% YoY – that’s almost China-esque!

Markets

Well, we didn’t really expect the US markets to get smacked as much as Europe and Asia did we? But the threat surrounding Dubai World’s potential default still remains. While the central bank in United Arab Emirates has provided a liquidity tap to the local banks, the true financial and psychological repercussions of this have still to be fleshed out. Given that Dubai World is a state-owned enterprise, it begs the question all investors are currently asking themselves: if this starts with Dubai, where on Earth will it end? Who is next? We’ve heard of loan restructuring during the recovery, but this is the mother of all restructurings to deal with – nearly $60 billion of what was regarded as pseudo government-guaranteed debt outstanding is quite a mouthful for a nauseated investment community to ingest.

Keep an eye on credit spreads – of course, they’ve all ticked wider on the Dubai news.

I recently read a minor right-wing blogger’s reaction to the election of Barack Obama, our first Black president. The blogger congratulated Obama for his victory and then said something to the effect of “See, America is such a wonderfully free place that even a Black guy can get elected here!”

As a country that stopped herding millions of Jews into gas chambers, Germans are obviously a model of religious tolerance.

HEADDESK. So I guess the history of race relations in America went something like this:

A bunch of White guys hammer a Black guy into a bloody pulp. While the Black man lies crumpled in a pool of his own blood, one of the White guys feels a twinge of guilt and decides he’ll call 911 for the Black man before he flees the scene like the other Whites have. While the White man is talking with the 911 operator… a right wing blogger shows up! “Wow,” the blogger marvels “Look at that White man selflessly assisting Black man in trouble! We truly live in a post-racial society!”

Or maybe a bit like Germany bragging that it’s so tolerant of religious minorities that… they no longer send them to concentration camps. Wow! Want a cookie?

Notlage, Obdachlosigkeit und Erkrankung der jungen Mutter mit 3jähriger Tochter in Nassau in Bahamas wären möglicherweise verhinderbar gewesen – Ehemann hatte eigenen Angaben zufolge am 7. August einen Unfall

(24) ist hochschwanger mit ihrer 3jährigen Tochter in Not geraten, wo andere auf Glück und Freude in einem Urlaubs-Paradies hoffen – in Nassau in Bahamas in der Karibik (wir berichteten bereits mehrfach).

Die Notlage der jungen Mutter, die offiziell bekannt bereits am 29. September 2009 in schwerer Not, im 7ten Monat schwanger und mit ihrer 3jährigen Tochter, obdachlos und krank in Nassau in Bahamas war, wurde durch einen Mitarbeiter der Deutschen Botschaft am 1. Oktober 2009 schriftlich bestätigt als „NOTLAGE“.

Das Foto No. 1 und Foto No. 2 stammt aus den Archiven der jungen Familie, der jungen Mutter Natalie F. Und ihrem Ehemann aus besseren Tagen. Was die Kollegen und Kolleginnen, am 5. Oktober als der Beitrag für die Zeitung BERLINER KURIER geschrieben wurde und die junge Natalie mit ihrer 3jährigen Tochter noch nicht wissen konnten, der Ehegatte hat, eigenen Angaben zufolge, seine Ehefrau nicht im Stich gelassen.

Am 6. Juli 2009 kehrte er nicht mehr zu seiner Ehefrau zurück, weil er durch äußere Umstände gezwungen wurde Nassau in Bahamas zu verlassen. Die Miete wurde durch den Ehemann für die Ehefrau bis Anfang September 2009 bezahlt, teilte der Ehemann mit. Danach ist die Ehefrau in Not geraten, weil die Miete möglicherweise nicht weitergeleitet wurde oder eine Weiterleitung nicht mehr möglich war.

Der Ehemann der jungen Frau, die am 24. Oktober 2009 ihre zweite Tochter in Berlin zur Welt gebracht hat, meldete sich am 27. Oktober bei der internationalen John Baptist Mission of Togo und teilte mit, dass er am 7. August 2009 einen Unfall hatte. Aufgrund seiner Beschreibungen wird vermutet, dass er eine schwere Amputations-Verletzung erlitten hat. Über den Unfall hatten bereits zuvor mehrere andere Zeugen berichtet. Nach Informationen des Ehemanns wurde möglicherweise das gemeinsame Konto des Ehepaares von einem Landeskriminalamt (LKA) gesperrt, möglicherweise mit der Intention die „Flucht“ des Ehemanns zu beenden. Denn ohne Geld sind in der Regel keine Reisen oder die Fortsetzung von Reisen möglich.

Sollten die Informationen des Ehemannes stimmen, dann konnte dieser die Miete in Nassau in Bahamas nicht mehr bezahlen und die Notlage der Ehefrau könnte in der Folge einer Sperrung des gemeinsamen Kontos durch Behörden in Deutschland entstanden sein, was eine Vermutung oder auch eine Spekulation ist, da es zu solchen brisanten Vermutungen keine offiziellen Auskünfte deutscher Ermittlungs-Behörden gibt.

In einem Bericht des Fernseh-Magazines „RTL Explosiv“ am 23. Oktober 2009 bestätigte jedoch der Presse-Sprecher der Staatsanwaltschaft Düsseldorf, Staatsanwalt Johannes Mocken, dass Hans-Jürgen F. (45) möglicherweise in zwei laufenden Haupt-Verfahren gesucht werde und mehr als 20 Einträge im Bundeszentral-Register habe.

Hans-Jürgen Rolf F. bestätigte auf Anfrage gegenüber dem internationalen MJB Education Media Network, dass er mehr als 25 Einträge im Bundeszentral-Register habe.

Die Ehefrau Natalie (24) und die 3jährige Tochter sind dennoch definitiv unverschuldet in eine Notlage geraten, da eine Sippen-Haftung (das meint die Haftung einer ganzen Familie oder Gruppe aufgrund möglicher Vergehen eines Mitgliedes einer Familie) verboten ist.

Die junge Mutter mit ihrem kleinen Baby und ihrer 3jährigen Tochter haben Anspruch auf Hilfe durch die Gemeinschaft um ein freies und unabhängiges Lebenohne Ängeste und Not führen zu können.

Der Ehemann teilte an die John Baptist Mission of Togo mit, dass er nicht nach Deutschland reisen kann und auch nicht plant nach Deutschland zu segeln. Über die Kontakt-Aufnahme mit der John Baptist Mission of Togo wurde bereits Ende Oktober schriftlich die Vermisstenstelle des Landeskriminalamtes (LKA) in Berlin informiert. Dort hatte die internationale jüdisch-christliche Mission auch eine Vermissten-Anzeige eingereicht, nach dem der Ehemann seit rund drei Monaten als „vermisst“ gelten musste.

Ein Sprecher der internationalen jüdischen-christlichen John Baptist Mission of Togo erklärte: „Es wäre nicht das erste Mal, dass ein möglicherweise von der Polizei gesuchter Mensch gleichzeitig auch vermisst sein kann. Es gibt sogar von der Polizei gesuchte Menschen, die in Notlagen oder in Unfälle verwickelt werden. Diese und ähnliche Ereignisse sind auch bei der Polizei und dem Landeskriminalamt nicht unbekannt. Medizinsich beschrieben: Ein Mensch kann an einer Erkältung erkranken und sich dennoch auch ein Bein brechen. Es sind mehrere Erkrankungen zur gleichen Zeit möglich um ein Beispiel aus Pflege und Medizin zu geben. Beide oder mehrere Dinge sind möglich. Die Mission hat keinen Grund an den Angaben der Ehefrau zu zweifeln. Beides ist möglich: Eine Flucht und ein Vermisstwerden. Deshalb wurde von der Mission Anfang Oktober eine Vermissten-Anzeige bei der Vermisstenstelle des Landeskriminalamtes (LKA) in Berlin erstattet. Wir glauben, dass mit der Meldung der Ehefrau an die Botschaft, normalerweise die Botschaft als deutsche Behörde bei der Polizei ordnungsgemäß hätte eine Vermissten-Anzeige erstatten müssen. Weshalb dies nicht geschehen ist, muss sicher untersucht werden. Wir glauben auch, dass die Notlage, Erkrankung und Obdachlosigkeit einer jungen schwangeren Frau und Mutter und eines 3jährigen Kindes definitiv verhinderbar waren – wäre richtig von deutschen Behörden gehandelt worden. Vermutlich wurde allerdings den Angaben der jungen Mutter und Frau in Not mit einer 3jähriger Tochter kein Glauben geschenkt.

Wenn der Ehemann von der Polizei gesucht wird, wollen wir den deutschen Behörden nicht das Recht absprechen, Massnahmen zur Beendigung einer Flucht einzuleiten. Doch bei solchen Massnahmen dürfen grundsätzlich nicht schwangere, unschuldige Mütter und 3jährige Kinder in Lebensgefahr gebracht werden. Diese Ereignisse müssen geprüft und untersucht werden.“

Diese Informationen waren mit der Veröffentlichung des Beitrags am 5. Oktober 2009 bei der Zeitung Berliner Kurier und auch bei John Baptist Mission of Togo, dem MJB Education Media Network und bei beim internationalen Medien-Projekt für die Menschenrechte „Liberty and Peace NOW! Human Rights Reporters“ (www.radiotvinfo.org) noch NICHT bekannt.

Die in Berlin erscheinende Zeitung BERLINER KURER hat am 5. Oktober 2009 folgenden Beitrag mit Informationen veröffentlicht, von denen wir heute sehr sicher sein können, dass die Ehefrau, Rettungs-Kräfte und Journalisten nicht informiert sein konnten, weil diese Informationen erst nach dem 27. Oktober 2009 bekannt wurden:

“Nassau / Bahams. Das tropische Traumziel wurde für die hochschwangere Natalie F. (24) und ihr Töchterchen (3) aus Berlin zum Horror-Trip. Ihr Mann ließ sie dort nach einem Segeltörn ohne Geld sitzen. Verzweifelt bettelt nun Natalie: Holt mich nach Hause !

Mit der „Freedom IV“ kreuzte die kleine Familie in den Atlantik. „Eigentlich wollten wir nur einen kleinen Segeltour machen.“, erzählt die erschöpfte junge Frau mit gepresster Stimme dem KURIER. „Dass mein Mann einfach abhaut, hätte ich nie gedacht.“. Fünf Jahre ist die Berlinerin mit Hans-Jürgen F. (45) verheiratet. Mein Mann hatte ein kleines Handwerksunternehmen.“.

Im vergangenen Jahr brach die Familie in Richtung Bahamas auf. Die verheißungsvolle große weite Welt wurde vor drei Monaten zur „Angst-Adresse“. „Mein Mann ließ uns hier bei einem Freund zurück. Seitdem habe ich nichts mehr von Hans-Jürgen gehört.“

Der Kontakt zu dem Freund besteht nicht mehr. Natalie F. lebt praktisch auf der Straße.

„Meine Tochter ist krank. Ich bettele für unser Essen, es regnet, wir schlafen in verlassenen Häusern in den Docks am Hafen.“ Dort wo täglich Kreuzfahrt-Schiffe anlegen und das malerische Nassau besichtigen, ist sie allein und hungrig. Natalie F. fleht: „Bitte lasst mich nach Hause kommen. Ich sorge mich um meine Kinder. Schon bei der letzten Schwangerschaft gab es Komplikationen.“

Ihr Mann ist vor drei Monaten verschwunden

Ist ihr Mann auf der Flucht vor den Behörden? Natalie F.: „Ich weiß es nicht.“. Schlecht sieht sie aus, blass, dunkle Ringe unter den Augen. Das aber beeindruckt den deutschen Honorarkonsul nicht. Ein Sprecher des Auswärtigen Amts in Berlin: „Wir prüfen den Fall zur Zeit. Allerdings können wir nur helfen, wenn wir sicher sind, dass Frau F. wirklich völlig mittellos ist.“

„Zu Verwandten oder Bekannten gibt es keine Kontakt mehr.“, sagt Natalie F. : „Es sind schlechte Verhältnisse aus denen ich komme. Ich habe niemanden, der mir helfen könnte.“ DÜBB, PDE”

Diese Informationen und dieser Beitrag ist in der gedruckten Ausgabe der Zeitung BERLINER KURIER erschienen. Die Autoren, weitere Journalisten, Rettungskräfte, Helfer und Helferinnen konnten nicht über Informationen schreiben, die erst auf gezielte Anfrage des MBJ Education Media Network an den Ehemann bekannt wurden.

Ein Sprecher der Mission ergänzte: “Es ist richtig, dass wir uns große Sorge um Natalie, Baby TJ und die 3jährige Tochter JJ machen, die von der John Baptist Mission of Togo, vorrangig, erstrangig und an erster Stelle begleitet werden. Wir machen uns auch große Sorgen um den Ehemann und haben die Empfehlung an den Ehemann gemacht, dass dieser schnellstmöglichst ein Krankenhaus oder einen Arzt aufsucht. Wie der Ehemann mit dieser Empfehlung umgehen wird, können wir auf einer Entfernung von nahezu 5.000 Kilometer nicht einschätzen.”

Die junge Ehefrau mit ihrem Baby und einer 3jährigen Tochter, Journalisten und die beteiligten Rettungs-Kräfte mehrerer Hilfs-Organisationen, dazu zählen auch die internationale Jüdisch-Christliche John Baptist Mission of Togo, weitere Helfer und Helferinnen und edle Spender konnte jedoch nicht Anfang Oktober über Informationen berichten, die erst am 27. Oktober 2009 aufgrund einer Anfrage des internationalen MJB Education Media Network beim Ehemann, der sich immer noch im Ausland aufhält, bekannt geworden sind.

Die Behörden in Deutschland erteilen zur Zeit keine offiziellen Auskünfte und Informationen. Grundsätzlich können die Angaben und Informationen des Ehemannes nicht alle in Zweifel gezogen werden, wenn zunächst jetzt erst einmal von Vermutung und Spekulationen ausgegangen werden muss, die jedoch auch sehr wohl der Wahrheit entsprechen können, so traurig diese Informationen auch sein mögen.

Keinen Zweifel gibt es daran, dass die junge jetzt allein erziehende Mutter mit ihrem Baby und ihrer 3jährigen Tochter nach nationalen und internationalen Gesetzen definitv einen RECHTS-Anspruch auf die Hilfe durch die Gemeinschaft in Deutschland haben.

Die bestehende Notlage der junge Mutter, die damals noch in Nassau in Bahamas war, wurde am 1. Oktober 2009 durch einen Mitarbeiter der Deutschen Botschaft schriftlich bestätigt.

In einer spektakulären Hilfs- und Rettungs-Aktion ist es gelungen, die schwangere Mutter mit Baby und ihrer 3jährigen Tochter am 13. Oktober 2009 von Nassau in Bahamas über den Flughafen London nach Berlin-Tegel (TXL) fliegen zu lassen.

Nur 9 1/2 Tage nach der Ankunft der jungen Mutter in Berlin hat diese ihre 2te Tochter, früher als erwartet geboren. Natalie F. ist jetzt 2fache alleinerziehende Mutter eines Baby´s und einer 3ährigen Tochter JJ. Sie sucht eine Wohnung in Berlin. Hinweise bitte an die Redaktion, email: aktuelles@radiotvinfo.org .

Wer bei Unglücksfällen oder gemeiner Gefahr oder Not nicht Hilfe leistet, obwohl dies erforderlich und ihm den Umständen nach zuzumuten, insbesondere ohne erhebliche eigene Gefahr und ohne Verletzung anderer wichtiger Pflichten möglich ist, wird mit Freiheitsstrafe bis zu einem Jahr oder mit Geldstrafe bestraft.

Im Artikel 12 der Landesverfassung von Berlin wird garantiert:

Schutz im Arbeitsverhältnis.

Über die außergewöhnlichen Ereignisse und Notlage von Natalie, die noch bis 24. Oktober 2009 schwanger war und ihrer 3jähriger Tochter berichtete RTL Fernsehen am 23. Oktober 2009 im Fernseh-Magazin “Explosiv” und die Zeitung Berliner Kurier. Am 5. Oktober 2009 waren die Umstände, die zum plötzlichen Verschwinden des Ehemanns von Natalie F. in Nassau in Bahamas führten noch nicht bekannt. Diese Informationen wurden erst auf Anfrage des internationalen MJB Education Media Network beim Ehemann bekannt. Der ursprüngliche Titel des Beitrages in der Zeitung BERLINER KURIER wurde daher von der Redaktion geändert. Der Ehemann befindet sich weiterhin im Ausland, lebt, doch er hatte am 7. August 2009 einen Unfall mit schweren Verletzungen. Dennoch schreibt er, dass es ihm gut gehe. Der Mann ist hart im Nehmen und hatte bereits in früheren Jahren mehrere schwere Verletzungen. Schwangere Mutter mit Kind in Not sind zuhause in Deutschland

Spender machten Reise von Nassau in Bahamas nach Berlin für hochschwangere Mutter mit Kind möglich

Zweifel nach RTL Fernseh-Bericht und Angaben eines Zeugen – Drei Zeugen bestätigen Notlage der Mutter – Möglicherweise mehr als 100 weitere Zeugen in Nassau können die Notlage der jungen Frau bestätigen

Nassau (Bahamas)/Trier/Berlin. 27. Oktober 2009. Verzweifelt versuchte die hochschwangere Mutter Natalie F. (24) in der 35. Schwangerschafts-Woche bei zahlreichen Hilfsorganisationen in Deutschland Hilfe zu finden. Nach dem ihr Ehemann seit 6. Juli 2009 vermisst werde, sei die schwangere Mutter Natalie F. (24) mit Tochter Jennifer (3) in Not geraten. Hilfsbereite Spender in Deutschland machten die Rückreise nach Deutschland möglich, denn die Mutter hatte, ihren Angaben zufolge kein Geld für die Rückreise nach Berlin, war krank und obdachlos im sonnigen Insel-Paradies in Nassau in Bahamas geworden.

Für die Mutter war das Paradies offenbar kein Paradies, vor allem in den vergangenen vier Wochen ihres Aufenthaltes. Vier Wochen habe sie in den Straßen von Nassau in Bahamas für sich und ihre Tochter um Nahrung und Geld bitten müssen um zu überleben. Bis Anfang September sei die Miete bezahlt gewesen, doch dann sei sie obdachlos geworden. Hilfe konnte die Frau, ihren Schilderungen zufolge, bei armen Fischern in Nassau finden und an Orten, an denen gutbürgerliche Menschen in Deutschland ganz sicher keine Hilfe erwarten würden. Arme Menschen, die selbst kaum etwas haben, hätten ihr geholfen, beschreibt dankbar die junge Mutter ihre Erlebnisse. Bei der Botschaft in Nassau konnte die schwangere Frau mit ihrer erkrankten 3jährigen Tochter zunächst keine Hilfe finden, obgleich ihr dort Hilfe nach Artikel 6 des Grundgesetzes (GG), nach dem Sozialgesetzbuch (12 und 2) und dem Konsular-Hilfe-Gesetz zusteht.

Am 13. Oktober 2009 gelang des kaum Vorstellbare. Die erschöpfte Mutter konnte mit ihrer Tochter mit der British Airways nach London fliegen und von London nach Berlin-Tegel (TXL) fliegen. Am 14. Oktober 2009 landete Natalie F. mit ihrer 3jährigen Tochter Flughafen in Berlin.

„Erschöpft und müde“ wirkte die Mutter und das Töchterchen. Doch beide sind glücklich wieder in Deutschland zu sein. Am Flughafen warten mehrere Journalisten einer großen Tageszeitung (Berliner Kurier), von zwei Fernseh-Stationen (RTL Fernsehen und IBS Television Liberty ) und eine Mitarbeiterin und ein Mitarbeiter des Jugendamtes in Berlin.

Am 29. September 2009 traf der Notruf der Mutter auch bei der internationalen Jüdisch-Christlichen John Baptist Mission of Togo, Vertretung für Deutschland und die Vertretung für Groß Britannien ein. Nach dem beim Auswärtigen Amt geprüft wurde, ob die Angaben stimmen, dort wurde mehrfach schriftlich die Notlage bestätigt, schaltete der internationale Missions-Dienst mehr als zwei Dutzend Hilfs- und Rettungs-Organisationen in Deutschland, in Bahamas, in Jamaika und in den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika ein. Die Alarmmeldung: „Schwangere Mutter mit Kind in Not, 3jährige Tochter und Mutter krank.“

Da die Mutter ihren Ehemann als vermisst bei der Deutschen Botschaft meldete, erstattete am 30. September 2009 die internationale Mission eine Vermissten-Anzeige bei der Vermissten-Stelle des Landeskriminalamtes (LKA) in Berlin, der Polizei in Berlin und am 3. Oktober eine weitere Vermissten-Anzeige bei der Royal Bahamas Police (Königliche Polizei) in Nassau Bahamas.

Der Ehemann der Frau, wird jetzt wohl gesucht. Natalie F. befürchtet Schlimmes: „Vielleicht sah mein Mann keinen anderen Ausweg. Er war verzweifelt, vielleicht liegt er am Grund des Meeres, vielleicht haben ihn die Haie gefressen. Ich weiß es nicht.“

Nach dem am 14. Oktober 2009 zumindest Mutter und Kind in ein Mutter-und-Kind-Heim Sicherheit und die beiden staatliche Fürsorge der Gemeinschaft finden können, scheint ein kleines Wunder für Mutter und Kind wahr geworden zu sein.

Am Wochenende, Freitag 16. Oktober 2009 meldete sich ein angeblicher Zeuge David W., in Nassau in Bahamas in einem Gewerbe tätig, das umstritten ist und behauptet: „Natalie und Ehemann Hans lebten in einer sehr schönen Wohnanlage. Keine Notlage und wirft Natalie, der Vertretung für Deutschland, Vertretung für Groß Britannien und der Missionsleitung beider Länder der Jüdischen-Christlichen John Baptist Mission Betrug und eine frei erfundene Geschichte vor. 1.000 U.S. Dollar würde das Ehepaar dem angeblichen Vermieter schulden.“. Hans habe sich angeblich noch auf der Insel aufgehalten, während seine Frau in eine Notlage gerät, Mutter und Tochter krank werden.

Beim RTL-Fernseh-Magazin „Explosiv“ vermutet man auch einen „Schwindel“. Unklar ist ob und wie die schwangere Mutter beteiligt sein könnte. Der Ehemann ist laut Staatsanwalt Johannes Mocken von der Staatsanwaltschaft Düsseldorf bei den deutschen Behörden kein Unbekannter. Er werde in zwei gerichtlichen Haupt-Verfahren zu denen dieser nicht erschienen ist, gesucht.

Am 19. Oktober 2009 melden sich die Zeugen Peter Lange, ein armer Fischer und seine Bekannten Chris O`Brein und Willi Maccoke Waite und erklärten in einer schriftlichen Erklärung: “Gott ist mein Zeuge, die schwangere Mutter Natalie war obdachlos und musste in den Straßen von Bahamas um Essen und für Geld betteln.” Ab und an habe er Natalie mit ihrer Tochter auf seinem Fischer-Boot “Sham Tame” schlafen lassen. Dem international MJB Education Media Network gegenüber erklären die Zeugen: “Sie dürfen unsere Namen weltweit in allen Medien veröffentlichen und in der Öffentlichkeit bekannt geben.”

Peter Lange erklärte: „Wir wissen, dass sich Hans in Canada (* = Ort wurde aus Sicherheitgründen von der Redaktion in einen anderen Ort geändert. Der echte Name des Ortes ist den Redaktionen und der Polizei in Berlin bekannt) befindet.

An den Angaben des Zeugen David W. aus Nassau in Bahamas entstehen Zweifel. Mehrfach erklärte er schriftlich: „Natalie und ihre Tochter haben sich am 8. Oktober von uns verabschiedet und sind dann nach Miami in die U.S.A. geflogen um vermutlich einen Tag später nach Deutschland zu fliegen.“

Doch noch am Wochenende am Freitag und Samstag drehte ein eigens aus New York City eingeflogenes Team von RTL TELEVISION New York Fernseh-Aufnahmen in Nassau in Bahamas und versuchte mehr zur Geschichte der Mutter in Not mit ihrer 3jährigen Tochter vor Ort zu recherchieren.

Gegen den Zeugen David W. hat die John Baptist Mission of Togo, Vertretung für Deutschland und Vertretung für Groß Britannien eine Strafanzeige wegen des Verdachts der „vorsätzlichen falschen Unterstellung von Betrug“ erstattet.

Ein Zeuge aus Nassau, David W., der die Angaben der schwangeren Mutter Natalie F. und ihrer 3jährigen Tochter in Frage stellt reicht dies aus, um einer schwangere Mutter mit ihrer 3jährigen Tochter in Not einen „Schwindel“ zu unterstellen und den Versuch zu beschreiten die Helfer zu kriminalisieren?

Dem gegenüber stehen drei Zeugen, die die Angaben der Mutter in Not bestätigten und mehrere schriftliche Bestätigungen des Auswärtigen Amtes und der Deutschen Botschaft. In der schriftlichen Zeugen-Aussage bestätigt der Zeuge Peter Lange: „Es gibt mehr als weitere 100 Menschen in den Docks (den Armen-Vierteln von Nassau), die gesehen haben, wie Mutter und Tochter in Not waren.“

Kurz vor dem Flug ist nicht mehr sicher ob die hochschwangere Natalie mit ihrer Tochter noch mit einem normalen Linien-Flug fliegen kann. Das RTL-Fernseh-Team bezahlte vor Ort in Nassau in Bahamas die Arzt-Rechnung für die Mutter, weil die Mutter kein Geld hatte. Ergebnis der Untersuchung mit Ultraschall: Das Baby wird ein Mädchen. Mutter und Baby sind gesund und befanden sich in der 35. Schwangerschafts-Woche zum Zeitpunkt der Untersuchung.

Bei der John Baptist Mission of Togo versicherte der Zeuge Peter Lange: „Wir sind arme Fischer, doch keine Lügner. Natalie und ihre 3jährige Tochter waren in Not.“
Die genauen Hintergründe, die zur schweren Notlage einer schwangeren Mutter mit ihrer 3jährigen Tochter führten sind ganz sicher nicht einfach herauszufinden. Die Mutter und Zeugen machten sehr viele genaue Angaben, so dass in den Redaktionen des internationalen MJB Education Networks keine größeren Zweifel an den Angaben der Mutter bestehen.

Bereits Anfang Oktober wurde durch die internationale John Baptist Mission of Togo eine Strafanzeige gegen die Deutsche Botschaft, das Auswärtige Amt und das Bundesaußenministerium wegen des „Verdachts auf unterlassene Hilfeleistung“ erstattet.

Vor wenigen Tagen wurde zudem in New York City beim U.N. Generalsekretär Ban Ki-moon eine Beschwerde von der John Baptist Mission of Togo eingereicht und ein Antrag auf eine internationale Untersuchung der Ereignisse in Nassau in Bahamas gestellt.

Schnell, unbürokratisch und gelebte christliche Nächstenliebe – Die Helfer der Caritas werden zu Rettern in der Not – Katholische Kirche lässt schwangere Mutter mit Kind nicht im Stich

Nassau (Bahamas)/Trier/Berlin. 6. Oktober 2009. Bis vor wenigen Tagen gab es nicht eine einzige Organisation und keinen einzigen Menschen, der bereit war der hochschwangeren Natalie F. (24) und ihrer Tochter Jennifer Jaqueline zu helfen. Es schien so, dass alle die Hilfeleistung für die in unverschuldet in Not geratene schwangere Frau im siebten Monat mir ihrer dreijährigen Tochter ablehnen (wir berichteten). Das Auswärtige Amt prüft offenbar immer noch bereits seit 15. September ob die Mutter, die mit ihrer jungen Tochter in leer stehenden Häusern an den Docks von Nassau schläft und in Nassau um Essen bittet, obgleich „Betteln in Bahamas unter Strafe“ steht, noch über finanzielle Mittel verfügt.

Jetzt gibt es Hoffnung, nach dem edle Spender, das katholische Hilfswerk der Caritas-Verband laut einem Bericht im Berliner Kurier, eine Hilfs-Zusage gemacht haben soll.

Der Zeitung Berliner Kurier, mit dem die junge Mutter in dauernder Verbindung mittels email steht, sagte Jutta Kirchen vom Caritas-Verband: “Wir werden für die Unterhalts- und Unterkunfts-Kosten für Frau F. und ihre Tochter zunächst aufkommen. Wenn Frau F. alleine wäre, wäre die Situation sicher anders zu bewerten, aber es ist zusätzlich ein Kleinkind betroffen, welches schon erkrankt ist.”

Das katholische Hilfswerk Caritas will jetzt möglicherweise sogar für die junge Frau aus Berlin mit dem 3jährigen Töchterchen den Flug von Nassau in Bahamas nach Berlin bezahlen, nach dem diese von ihrem Mann am 6. Juli 2009 in Bahamas einfach verlassen und „ausgesetzt“ wurde.

„Im vergangenen Jahr flogen mein Mann und ich in die U.S.A. und machten einen Segeltörn in die Karibik. Als ich bemerkte, dass ich schwanger wurde, mietete mein Mann ein kleines Appartement. Am Morgen des 6. Juli 2009 ging er zum Segelboot. Am Abend ging ich zu den Docks. Mein Ehemann und das Segelboot waren weg.“ erinnert sich Natalie F. in einem Schreiben an das internationale MJB Education Media Network.

Für eine Zeit musste die tapfere und junge Frau mit ihrem Töchterchen unter Brücken schlafen. Kurze Zeit später konnte sie die leer stehenden Häuser in Nassau in Bahamas finden. Nach dem die hochschwangere Natalie F. und ihre Tochter akut erkrankt sind antwortete Sie auf die Frage: „Sollen wir den Rettungsdienst verständigen?“ – „Nein, es ist nur Fieber, eine Grippe, ich esse jeden Tag viele Zitronen mit meiner Tochter.“

Die internationale Jüdisch-Christliche John Baptist Mission of Togo bei der Natalie F. auch um Hilfe gebeten hat, erstattete am 30. September 2009 eine Vermissten-Anzeige bei der Vermissten-Stelle des Landeskriminalamtes (LKA) in Berlin, der Polizei in Berlin und am 3. Oktober eine weitere Vermissten-Anzeige bei der Royal Bahamas Police (Königliche Polizei) in Nassau Bahamas.

Der Ehemann der Frau, wird jetzt wohl gesucht. Natalie F. befürchtet Schlimmes: „Vielleicht sah mein Mann keinen anderen Ausweg. Er war verzweifelt.“

Ein Sprecher der John Baptist Mission of Togo und des International Social And Medical Outreach Team erklärte: „Wir können nicht ausschließen, dass dem Ehegatten der jungen und hochschwangeren Natalie F. etwas zugestoßen ist. Er könnte Opfer einer Entführung sein, in Seenot sein, einen Unfall erlitten haben oder sich in einer sonstigen hilflosen Lage befinden.

Daher mussten wir Vermissten-Anzeige bei der Vermissten-Stelle des Landeskriminalamt (LKA) und bei der Royal Bahamas Police erstatten. An erster Stelle steht die Gesundheit und das Wohl der 3jährigen Tochter Jennifer Jaqueline, des noch nicht geborenen Baby´s und der jungen und hochschwangeren Natalie F.. Wir sind dankbar, dass die Brüder und Schwestern des katholischen Wohlfahrts-Hilfswerkes Caritas die wahre Nächstenliebe in einem Deutschland zeigen, in dem vielerorts oft nur noch eine soziale Kälte wahrnehmbar war. Mutter und Kind stehen unter dem höchsten Schutz nationaler und internationaler Gesetze, Rechte und Ordnungen. Doch wo die Liebe regiert, bedarf es nicht der Hinweise auf bestehende Gesetze. Wir sind dankbar, dass sich in Deutschland nach einiger Suche doch noch eine Hilfs-Organisation finden lassen konnte, die Hilfe leisten kann. Vorsorglich haben wir bereits wenige Stunden nach dem Eingang des Notrufs aufgrund der räumlichen Nähe zu den U.S.A. eine sehr große amerikanische Ärzte-Hilfs-Organisation verständigt zur Vorbeugung, um schnelle ärztliche und medizinische Hilfe für Mutter und Kind in die Bahamas zu entsenden, falls es erforderlich werden sollte. Mit der Hilfe der Caritas wächst auch bei der John Baptist Mission von Togo die Hoffnung, dass eine baldige und gute Heimreise nach Hause nach Deutschland für die schwangere Mutter mit Kind möglich sein wird.“

Wegen des Verdacht der möglichen „unterlassenen Hilfeleistung“ wurde von der Jüdisch-Christlichen John Baptist Mission eine Strafanzeige gegen das Bundesaußenminister vertreten durch Frank-Walter Steinmeier am 3. Oktober 2009 (wir berichteten) erstattet.
