<p>You might wonder: “And what has UNIV got to do with ‘Rest &#38; Recreation’?  Well, plenty, because “to <strong>rest </strong>is not to do nothing: it is to relax in activities which demand less effort” (The Way, no. 257).  And this surely makes for a perfect topic for a UNIV paper.  <strong><em>Te preguntarías: “¿Qué tiene que ver el UNIV con el tema del descanso y la diversión?” Pues, mucho: es un tema muy importante. Para servir bien a Dios, tenemos que estar ‘en buena forma’, y tenemos que relajar para recuperar fuerzas, pero </em></strong><strong>“el descanso no es no hacer nada: es distraernos en actividades que exigen menos esfuerzo” <em>(Camino, n. 357).</em></strong></p>

<p>..in verschillende betekenissen van het woord! Zaterdag zijn S. en ik teruggekeerd van een zalige vakantie in de Dordogne (een aanrader, mensen!) en gisteren was het officieel de eerste &#8217;schooldag&#8217;, hoewel ik enkel infosessie had over de masters. Woensdag begint m&#8217;n eerste les pas, <em>aren&#8217;t I lucky </em>xD</p>
<p>Ik hou me meer bezig met fotobewerkingen, digitale fotoboeken en nagenieten van de reis dan met andere dingen. Het zal nog wel een weekje duren alvorens ik opnieuw in de dagelijkse sleur van de univ zit..</p>
<p>Niettemin moeten er nog wat beslissingen vallen omtrent keuzevakken, en de thesis die me tot in juni boven het hoofd zal hangen.</p>

<p>La Iglesia entera está comprendiendo que la familia cristiana no debe ser sólo “objeto” sino “sujeto” de evangelización, para que la acción misionera pueda llegar allí donde sólo llegan las familias, ha constatado un seminario convocado por la Santa Sede.</p>
<p>Con el argumento “Familia, sujeto de evangelización”, el Pontificio Consejo para la Familia ha congregado en Roma entre el 10 y el 11 de septiembre a decenas de matrimonios del mundo, así como a sacerdotes comprometidos con la pastoral familiar.</p>
<p>Monseñor Carlos Simón Vázquez, subsecretario del Pontificio Consejo para la Familia, ha explicado a ZENIT, que la reflexión se ha concentrado, en particular, en el magisterio del Concilio Vaticano II, la constitución Gaudium et Spes, y en la exhortación apostólica Familiaris Consortio, firmada por Juan Pablo II tras el sínodo sobre la familia del año 1980.</p>
<p>Este documento, afirma, “nos presenta una teología, una pastoral sobre la familia, que hunde sus raíces en el misterio de Dios y está llamada a ser presencia de ese Dios amor, de ese Dios que quiere comunicar su buena noticia a todo el mundo”.</p>
<p>La familia, aclara, “está llamada a hacer presente a ese Dios en la historia”, como explica la Gaudium et Spes, al presentarla como “sujeto que debe hacer realidad los presupuestos que plantea en la primera parte del documento: por ejemplo, debe estar presente en el servicio internacional, en el servicio a la sociedad, a la cultura, en los demás servicios en los que la Iglesia tiene una palabra qué decir”.</p>
<p>Monseñor Carlos Simón Vázquez aclara que la familia se queda reducida a un “objeto” y no a un “sujeto” evangelizador, “cuando vemos en ella un objeto que hace cosas, que resuelve problemas…”.</p>
<p>“La familia hace todo eso pero ante todo es un ser querido por Dios, por lo tanto, su acción es su ser —añade—. No es una especie de solución de problemas sino que cumple esta misión porque ella ha vivido una vocación que Dios le ha dado en el amor”.</p>
<p>La familia, indica el sacerdote, “es el lugar de la gratuidad, de la generosidad, donde todos encuentran un motivo para esperar y para estar seguros, no por lo que tienen sino por lo que son y eso es la traducción de la dinámica del amor”.</p>
<p>La visión de “Caritas in veritate”</p>
<p>El padre Leopoldo Vives, ex secretario de Familia y Vida de la Comisión de Apostolado Seglar de la Conferencia Episcopal Española (CEE), participó en este simposio para mostrar este papel protagonista de la familia a la luz de la nueva encíclica de Benedicto XVI, Caritas in veritate.</p>
<p>“El progreso de la sociedad pasa por el progreso de la familia”, aclara en una entrevista concedida a ZENIT. En este sentido destaca dos aspectos.</p>
<p>“El primero es la relación de la verdad con el amor: el progreso humano debe ser integral y eso no se puede dar sino es en la relación interpersonal. Y por tanto una relación de amor”.</p>
<p>“Si esa relación de amor no se vive conforme a la verdadera persona, el desarrollo es ficticio y puede haber un gran desarrollo económico, en los medios que disponemos, pero no en la persona”, aclara.</p>
<p>Otro punto, sigue indicando, “es la apertura a la trascendencia del hombre que va más allá de un horizonte terreno. Sin ésta estamos fuera de la verdad integral de hombre y, por tanto, fuera de su verdadero bien y estaríamos nuevamente en un desarrollo ficticio”.</p>
<p>El padre Vives subraya, en particular, el pasaje de la encíclica del Papa en el que muestra “la relación entre la familia y la Trinidad: cómo vive de su comunión de amor y de la comunión de Dios trinitario. Ciertamente ahí está la verdadera plenitud del hombre no sólo en la tierra sino en la plena comunión con Dios en el cielo”.</p>
<p>Uno de los ejemplos que muestran cómo la familia se convierte en objeto y no en sujeto es la “ideología de género”.</p>
<p>“La institución familiar se basa en la propia naturaleza de la persona —indica Vives—. En el caso de la ideología de género tenemos una negación de la verdad del hombre, porque lo hemos fragmentado, considerando nuestro cuerpo como algo material, independiente de la persona que yo podría desde mi libertad modelar a mi gusto y separado completamente de lo que es la persona, que se expresa desde su libertad, entendida también mal, es decir: ‘yo soy persona porque soy libre y como soy libre puedo elegir’. Esto no es así”.</p>
<p>“La persona es una en su unidad de cuerpo y alma y por tanto, mi propia identidad no puede ser verdadera si no tiene en cuenta los actos originales y fundamentales de quién soy yo. En primer lugar soy varón o mujer”.</p>
<p>“La familia basada en el matrimonio, la unión entre un hombre y una mujer, es la verdad del hombre. Sin ella, estamos destruyendo la relación más fundamental de la persona, que es la relación conyugal, y de este modo se destruye la relación de padres e hijos”.</p>
<p>“Aquí se hiere la propia identidad, el saber quién soy en una relación personal: ‘Yo soy yo porque eres tú; eres tú y yo soy distinto de ti’. Pero si anulamos esa diferencia, que es lo que pretende la ideología de género, quitamos el fundamento de la identidad personal. Si yo intento construir mi identidad personal al margen de mi ser masculino, estoy en una constante contradicción de mi proprio ser”.</p>
<p>“Amor líquido”</p>
<p>El padre Vives considera que uno de los grandes desafíos para las parejas jóvenes que quieren casarse por la Iglesia es el “amor líquido”, es decir, “algo que no es consistente, que no tiene fundamento, algo sobre lo que no se puede construir porque se reduce a diversos sentimientos”.</p>
<p>“Por supuesto que hay sentimientos en el amor y esto forma parte importante y muy llamativa para los jóvenes pero no se puede reducir a un sentimiento”, subraya.</p>
<p>“El amor es una comunión que brota del don de sí mismo. Y ese don es una entrega total. Eso es lo que da fundamento a una relación. Es lo que no sucede en una relación de ‘amor líquido’, de sujetos que no tienen una capacidad de sacrificio, entrega y fidelidad, que no son capaces de prometer porque consideran el futuro como algo incierto”.</p>
<p>Para superar el “amor líquido”, el sacerdote proponer comprender lo que significa ser cristiano.</p>
<p>“Cuando uno entiende que tiene una vocación, que esa vocación es un don de Dios y que viene santificada por un sacramento, las personas están en una disposición mucho más capaz de sostener esa promesa de vivir el amor, de construir unas relaciones fuertes y estables”.</p>
<p>“Para ello es absolutamente fundamental la vinculación con la Iglesia. Casarse en el Señor es al mismo tiempo una adhesión a la Iglesia porque es cuerpo de Cristo. En Dios pueden encontrar ese amor que los esposos sueñan y que les hace capaces de mantenerse unidos”.</p>
<p>“Tampoco es posible vivir el amor sin perdón y todo ello viene alimentado por la cooperación de los esposos con la gracia sacramental”, concluye el padre Vives.</p>

<p>“One of the major tools of systems analysis is <span style="text-decoration:underline;">systems thinking</span>.  Basically, systems thinking is a way of helping a person to view systems from a broad perspective that includes seeing overall structures, patterns, and cycles in systems, rather than seeing only specific events in the system.  This broad view can help you to quickly identify the real causes of issues … and know just where to work to address them” (<a href="http://www.managementhelp.org/systems/systems.htm">http://www.managementhelp.org/systems/systems.htm</a>).</p>
<p>I’d like to discuss here two very important <span style="text-decoration:underline;">tools</span> of systems thinking that I’ve found most helpful: the construction of (1) <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Causal Loop Diagrams</span> (I know them simply as ‘<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Flowcharts’</span>), and (2) <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Conceptual Maps/Diagrams</span>.</p>

<p>Honest-to-goodness <span style="text-decoration:underline;">research</span> has always relied upon the so-called SCIENTIFIC METHOD to ensure that, especially in the physical sciences, our statements about the reality around us are closer to the truth.  Any google search of the term &#8220;scientific method&#8221; would generate an unlimited number of links.  Most of them would give you a series of steps, something like:</p>

<p>In January 2009, a website called Understanding Science (<a href="http://www.understandingscience.org/">www.understandingscience.org</a>) was launched, funded by the National Science Foundation.  It presents an alternative to the <em><strong>scientific</strong></em> <em><strong>method</strong></em>: <span style="text-decoration:underline;">the science flow chart</span>.  Please click here:</p>

<p>The flow chart illustrates :</p>
<p>1) how <em><strong>scientific</strong></em> investigations may be inspired by a wide range of inputs, from serendipitous occurrences to practical problems in need of a solution.</p>
<p>2) Next is the gathering and interpretation of data through &#8220;testing ideas,&#8221; which is at the center of the flow chart and at the core of science.</p>
<p>3) From here, the next step may be :</p>
<p>a.  interactions with the <em><strong>scientific</strong></em> community,</p>
<p>b.  further testing,</p>
<p>c.  investigation of new questions, or</p>
<p>d.  applying <em><strong>scientific</strong></em> knowledge.</p>

<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;">For example</span>:  You want to investigate the idea: “Christianity Influencing Music”.</p>
<p>Your <em>hypothesis </em>might be: “Christian Faith has indeed influenced music from the olden times up to the present day.”</p>
<p>You might want to <em>test </em>this hypothesis by, say, administering a <em>survey</em> among experts in the field of music or, if your study is just exploratory, among a convenience sample of individuals, say, students in your university.</p>
<p>The contents/form of the survey would, in turn, rely upon a complete or sound <em>literature review: </em>you would scour the ‘world’ of resources out there, read through the material, and write out an integrated <em>review of related literature.</em></p>
<p>(Actually, writing out briefly the results of your literature review would make a great UNIV Paper <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' />   In any case, your survey would back up any practical or <em>applied </em>or prescriptive aspect of your research on music, e.g., you want to write on “How Christian Music Uplifts One’s Spirits”.)</p>
<p><strong><em><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Otro ejemplo</span></em></strong><strong><em>:  Quieres escribir sobre el tema “Cuidados paliativos: Su origen cristiano”.  Supongamos que tu hipótesis es: “Los cuidados paliativos tienen su origen en la práctica de la fe y de la religión de los médicos cristianos.”</em></strong></p>
<p><strong><em> </em></strong></p>
<p><strong><em>Procedes a una </em></strong><strong>prueba <em>de esta hipótesis, por medio de un </em>repaso de la literatura<em> acerca del tema.  Hay un montón de recursos y fuentes: en la biblioteca, en bases de datos en línea, etc.  Luego completas esa revisión y escribes una breve historia del asunto.  (Normalmente, a base de este proceso, ya se puede confeccionar una sencilla pero completa ponencia para el UNIV&#8230;) </em></strong></p>
<p><strong><em>Si estás escribiendo algo preceptivo o recomendatorio, procederías a hacer una </em>encuesta, <em>por ejemplo, y escogerías la muestra de individuales adecuado para tu tema.  Esto se hará si investigas, p.ej., la cuestión </em>“Cómo aumentar la utilización de cuidados paliativos para los enfermos en fase terminal en Región XX”<em>. Entonces recoges los resultados de tal encuesta y empiezas a escribir las </em>conclusiones<em>, depende de si la experimentación coincide o no con tu hipótesis.</em></strong></p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>My present to my self were some safari windows for my bus.  It feels so good to drive down the road with the two front windows wide open. My Dad and I installed them on Sunday afternoon. It took about 2 hours or so and some sore hands.</p>

<p>Here are the 2 new colorways of the Thomson model shoe from Clae. These joints are official; my personal fave is the Brown/Caramel colorway.</p>
<p>These editions sport vulcanized white soles while one feature a caramel brown colored full grain leather upper with laces usually seen paired with boots. The other features a black full grain leather upper and traditional laces in black. Hot!</p>
<p>These shoes have arrived at the <a href="http://www.univ-shop.com/2009/07/09/claes-thomson-shoes-just-arrived/">UNIV</a> shop in Encinitas, CA.</p>
