Les informo que se ha detectado un nuevo virus para los Iphones, desbloqueados.

El gusano que infecta el teléfono celular de Apple fue descubierto al propagarse en Australia; los expertos temen ver más ataques en el futuro; no afecta a equipos que no fueron modificados

El programa cambia el fondo de pantalla tradicional del iPhone por una fotografía de Rick Astley, un cantante inglés de la década de los 80, con el mensaje “ikee nunca te va a abandonar”.

El gusano, conocido como ikee, sólo afecta a los teléfonos desbloqueados (o jail broken), en los que el usuario ha eliminado los mecanismos de protección de Apple para permitir que el aparato pueda ejecutar cualquier software.

Los expertos dicen que el gusano no es dañino, pero que podrían aparecer variantes más maliciosas. “El creador del virus ha publicado el código fuente completo de las cuatro variantes existentes del gusano”, escribió Mikko Hypponen de F-Secure, una empresa de seguridad.

“Esto significa que pronto habrá más virus que podrían tener una carga más desagradable que simplemente cambiar el fondo de pantalla”, agregó.

Riesgos.

“Ikee” hasta ahora ha circulado solamente en Australia, donde vive Ashley Town, quien aseguró que creó este gusano para que se debata el tema de la seguridad. El virus puede ser eliminado cambiando la contraseña del teléfono y eliminando algunos archivos.

Algunas estimaciones indican que hasta el 10% de todos los iPhone y los iPod Touch están operando bajo la modalidad “desbloqueada”. Esta práctica permite instalar aplicaciones que no han sido aprobadas por Apple.

Para Graham Cluley, de la firma de seguridad Sophos, “los usuarios del teléfono pueden precipitarse (…) para aumentar la funcionalidad que Apple les puede haber negado, pero si lo hacen sin cuidado también corren el riesgo de que su iPhone se convierta en el blanco de un hacker”.

“Mi predicción es que quizá veamos más ataques como éste en el futuro”, agregó Cluley

El nuevo ataque se basa en un ‘software’ que se instala en una PC o en un iPhone y luego, por medio de Wi-Fi, busca los celulares vulnerables en la zona. Una vez detectados, se conecta con ellos y se roba los contactos, mensajes de texto, correos electrónicos, fotos, música y videos almacenados en el celular.

De la misma forma que el primer gusano, este nuevo virus ataca los teléfonos que han sido desbloqueados (jailbroken, en la jerga) y que tengan Secure Shell (SSH, por sus siglas en inglés) instalado con la contraseña predeterminada.

La primera medida de protección, si usted tiene un iPhone desbloqueado y con SSH instalado es cambiar la contraseña predeterminada para las cuentas root y mobile.

5. Lastly the apps. There are alot of 3rd party apps nowadays. And depending on how you plan to use your storm, depends on what is best for you. You may need to have more business apps, than games. I have a few favorites, and they are listed in my App Review posts. But here’s what I have on my Storm currently.

Poynt- A all-in-one app for searching Yellow/White pages, and integrated with BB Maps, to map out your selections.

Google Maps – Again a must have, gives great options such as directions for Car, Walking, Public Transit. And the New Layers in Google Apps 3.2 allows you to see WIKI info for certain destinations.

BB Messenger – an IM for Blackberry users

Storm On Stormers!

It’s not exactly the native unlock we’ve been waiting for, but those of you in Europe dying for a Pre unshackled from O2 will be happy to know that the Rebel Simcard II is now compatible with Palm’s first webOS device. The £10.99 / $17.95 accessory card slots in between your carrier’s SIM and the Pre’s SIM slot, bypassing the Pre’s network locks and allowing full access to voice and data services including 3G. Sadly, the Pre doesn’t have the radio support to make this work in the States on anything but EDGE, but at least it’s a start, right? Video after the break.

Yes you can. I’ve done it twice now – and the excercise is nothing short of a mental marathon and a race against the sun.

Last Friday night our team (actress/producer Gretchen Treser, writer Elisa Silva, director of photography Chris and his wife Debra Hornbecker, Nike designer Matt Holmes, myself, and filmmaker Briana Bononcini) spent several hours on a conference call brainstorming. It was painful. We had received the genre DRAMA or HORROR as part of the National Film Challenge (you have 48 hours to write, shoot and edit a film up to 7 minutes in length).

We all generated several ideas. There was long pauses after each one was said. None of them were great. But they all contained bits of greatness. Matt had suggested we make a film where you are slowly trapped in your own house, the windows would be covered, the doors locked etc. That got us thinking about claustrophobia. Elisa and I had gotten obsessed with the baby monitor that was in the room with us. It kept making odd noises. That led us to a thought about a walkie talkie. There was talk of an older lady who lived next door to Gretchen. What kind of relationship would Gretchen have would a little old lady next door? The ideas jumped back and forth between psychological horror and coming of age drama. Our final idea ended up smack in the middle of those two things.

Sometimes you have to throw a lot of stuff onto the wall, to get to the good stuff. Get all the bad ideas out of your system, and a good idea will emerge.

It was now Saturday morning close to 2am, and we had decided to make a film about an agoraphobic widow who develops a friendship with a 12 year old boy who leaves a walkie talkie on her doorstep.

I was woken up by the phone. DP Chris Hornbecker was downtown, had picked up gear and wanted to pick me up.

We didn’t have a child actor yet. We didn’t have a script yet. I threw on my clothes and got in the car with him.

We began scouting locations. I made some phone calls. By 1pm, we had two kids to choose from, a completed script (Elisa was writing right up to shoot time), and our equipment fired up and ready to shoot.

Jonah Kellam was great. The kind of actor who gets it right on the first take. Our idea centered on us getting the right kid for the part and we were very fortunate to find Jonah. Gretchen had called an acting coach who put us in touch with his mom. Two hours later she was driving him to our set. Everything happened very quick over the weekend. It had to. We had to have our completed film in the mail to the National Film Challenge on Monday. The clock was ticking.

We shot into the evening.

To be safe we had Gretchen and Jonah read the entire script in a quiet room. We would use this audio for any over-dubbing we had to do. 

Because we had not chosen a simple idea, and because our script had many set ups, we had to shoot some of the scenes that took place in the day, at night. Chris did a great job of recreating the sun for a scene where Gretchen opens the front door to grab a package:

We wrapped around 11pm, after transforming the Hornbecker’s house into a set. There was gear everywhere. We had moved the furniture around. 

I decided to get a full night’s sleep, though I was tempted to head into the edit suite and start loading footage.

I slept for 10 hours straight. Woke up – went into the edit suite (around 10:30am). And didn’t come out until the next day at 4am.

A lot of things came together in order for us to complete the film in time. Jeremy Wilkins of Allegra Gellar composed a song for us that helped give the film the proper mood. Chris Hutchinson designed awesome titles. Elisa was a huge help in the edit. Briana got her younger brother Deems to come in and help with some audio effects.

So yes, you can make a movie in one weekend.

Many of you have seen the Burger King Windows 7 Burger by now. While an interesting idea it has a few substantial problems:

With my step-by-step guide I will show you how to:
• Get it fully functional at the Student Edition price of $4.24 (¥391)
• Run it on your native system, no hardware upgrades needed
• Unlock the region restrictions and purchase it in the US

Upgrades:
• Cheese – You will get 7 slices of American cheese free of charge (an enhancement from the Japanese edition)
• Sauce (BBQ, Sweet & Sour, Ranch or Honey Mustard) – This is an added bonus as Burger King allows one sauce per sandwich allowing you up to 4 sauces with you Windows 7 Cheeseburger
• Pickles, Tomatoes, Lettuce & Onions – Possible extra charge depending on vendor

Step 1: Purchase 4 of Burger King’s Double Cheeseburgers at the new price of $1.00 each.

Step 2: Open all 4 burgers. Designate a foundation burger and remove the top bun. Designate 2 “middle burgers” and remove both buns.

Step 3: Now this is the most difficult part of the whole hack. From the remaining burger you must discard not only the bottom bun but also the extra patty. Although this may seem unnecessary, omitting this crucial step will not produce a validated version of a Windows 7 Burger and may not be compatible with your system (this could result in possible system crashes as the amount of calories, sodium and fat could overheat your machine).

Step 4: Assemble all 4 parts beginning with the foundation, placing the four middle patties next and completing the install by placing the final patty and top bun on.

Step 5: You should now have a fully functional Burger King Windows 7 Cheeseburger. Reboot system and consume.
