Source: Elective Decisions

Medical science can now deliver indisputable proof that liberals show limited to no brain activity, a concept that conservatives have long embraced. And thanks to Dr. Benjamin Carson, Director of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, a medical link has been determined through scientific research and good old fashioned hard work.

Dr. Carson’s chief areas of focus are traumatic brain injuries, brain and spinal cord tumors, achondroplasia, neurological and congenital disorders, craniosynastosis, epilepsy and trigeminal neuralgia. Dr. Carson’s expertise was sought out after many neurosurgeons across America have failed to make any connection between liberals and brain activity.

Since Barack Obama’s election, Dr. Carson has been hard at work to find the specific area of the brain that is damaged. During that time, he has always maintained that “liberals have shown little brain activity,” resulting in bitter disappointments, feeling that hundreds of thousands of children will grow up untreated from years of public education. However, his hard work may finally be rewarded.

According to Dr. Carson, it appears that liberals suffer from limited or no brain activity in the left and right hemispheres of the brain. “The left hemisphere of the brain is where logic is processed,” detailed Carson. “The right area of the brain is where the big picture is processed. This means that one may see the end result, but have no clue about how to get there. This, unfortunately, is a common problem for Democrat politicians, public school teachers and union administrators.”

Dr. Carson goes on to add that “liberalism damages an equal amount of brain tissue in both

Evidence Of Liberal Brain Damage

hemispheres,” and that “removal of the entire brain may be the only way to save the adult liberal.” “There is hope for children,” argued Carson. “We have actually seen results from parents that force their children to listen to Rush Limbaugh for three hours a day. Their cognitive functions improved drastically, and evidence of the synapses firing was shown in pictures of the brain. It was utterly astounding! In this case, it is in the best interest of the public educated children that you have an MRI done on their brain today. If left untreated, simple things such as bathing, proper use of bathroom facilities and voting will likely elude them. This is not a guarantee, but I believe that a total removal of the brain may be the only way to save adults like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. Please, let’s leave no child behind.”

Dr. Carson goes on to explain that his experiments showed that adults who watched MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS showed a dramatic reduction of brain activity, and those who watched FOX News and listened to Rush Limbaugh showed that they had some of the finest minds in America.

“For liberals, it’s almost as if someone has taken a knife and carved out the center of the brain,” declared Carson. “Don’t let this happen to your child. Seek medical help immediately if your child starts telling you things like: ‘we must save the planet, mommy,’ or ‘the public option for healthcare is a good thing, daddy.’”

If you suspect that you work with a liberal, Dr. Carson advises us that some of the signs include walking around with dead eyes, not knowing what to do, not caring, urinating or defecating on themselves and out of nowhere, screaming, “It’s Bush’s fault!” If these symptoms are present, call the Center for Liberal Brain Removal as soon as possible and keep America safe.

Experts agree that a brain removal, though drastic, may indeed be the only way to save America from liberalism, stating, “That a person as a vegetable has far more substantial thought patterns than a liberal does.”

“At last,” exclaimed Mark Levin. “This finally explains Barack Obama.”

My life’s been a handicap for the last 3 months due to the enormous prickly pain that I get when my body gets warm. Every episode of the reaction seems like an eternity and believe me, the pain is unbearable. Without medical insurance I can’t get it treated. And I’m afraid to go to urgent care or emergency room because that might cost too much. I took the risk of going to a county community hospital yesterday. The doctor doesn’t know what it is either, but have recommended me to take 2 benadryls every 4 hours and a tagamet twice each day. The goal is to block the histamine from every direction. I am recommended to see a dermatologist if that doesn’t work.

Yup, you guessed it, the Benadryl is kicking my ass right now. I have never felt so drowsy in my life. I’m willing to do anything though, just to see what happens. So far I have not gotten any reaction today. It has also been very cold, so I’m not sure if it’s from the medication or the cold weather. It might be from both. We’ll see what happens.

Dec 15, 2009- Tuesday

The 8 plus Benadryl and 2 tagamet per day has turned me into a zombie. I feel like I’m walking and snoozing every moment of the day. I’m so tired all the time. My eyeballs look like someone that hasn’t slept for days. Here is the good news. I’m still getting the reactions but at the minor level. Yesterday I was teased in the classroom by a classmate and got the major reaction like I did before I was heavily medicated. The many current minor reactions seem to be more on the feet and hands. I’m not quite sure why. I also noticed that the sensation felt different too. They seem minor but more like shrieking pain. I have not had the courage to venture in to the sunlight yet, and I probably will continue to avoid it a little longer. So basically I still have the symptoms but am able to tolerate the room temperature more now. I can’t wait for it to go away.

Dec 17, 2009 – Thursday

I took my last final last night. I got perfect scores on the finals in 2 of the 3 classes. Anyhow after class several of us went to a Japanese restaurant/karaoke/bar place. It was a little warm inside of the restaurant, so that put my body at the verge of getting the reaction. I did however get the reactions, but only when I participate in the conversation. I had to rush outside several times because of them. After the third episode I basically said to myself “screw it” and withheld my participation to a minimum. I thought it was odd that those reactions were so intense. I would have been able to tolerate the heat if I hadn’t participated in the conversation. Now I am questioning if the medication is working as I had thought, or at all. It’s no longer raining like the last many days and seems to be getting warmer according to the news. I fear that my condition will worsen.

Dec 19, 2009 – Saturday

It was a little pass 5 pm. After taking my Benadryl and tagamet, I wrapped up my things at Starbucks and headed home. I knew it was a little dangerous to drive especially when the Benadryl kicks in. Yet a part of me also wanted to enjoy my Friday night. So I decided to stop at the usual neighborhood bar and risked the chance of getting the reaction while I am inside. I figured it was early enough that the bar should be practically empty. The chance of experiencing a lot of body heat is slim as long as it is not busy. I wasn’t thrill about my time at the bar, but I was glad that I went there. I needed the break.

(A the bar)

I was feeling very empty as I sat at the bar sipping my pitcher of beer. Yes, I was sipping it and was trying to make it last for most of the night. It is my usual way of trying to cut down the cost. As the bar was getting more crowded, more negative thoughts began to enter my mind. Before long I hated my time there. Every time I find something interesting or attempt to engage in a conversation, I would get the reaction. I even tried to play pool. I would get the reaction as soon as I get excited from running the table. After a while I got tired of excusing myself to the bathroom too much, and decided to forget about the game altogether. Most of the night I spent my time sitting at the bar, taking deep breaths, and remaining as calm as possible. It was the only way to avoid the reaction. It was all that I can do.

The snow is gone and our project is finally underway. Dealing With The Old When we purchased this ho

The snow is gone and our project is finally underway.

Dealing With The Old

When we purchased this home there were three raised vegetable gardening beds already on the property. These were made using pressure treated wood. This means that a lot of toxic chemicals could be leaching out into our vegetables.

Cheap Solution

We can’t afford to replace the pressure treated wood this year. Instead, these beds will be piled high with rich organic soil, straw and unfinished compost to be used as grow heaps for cucurbits. The heaps will be roughly 3 ft above the current wood frame so that no chemicals will be affecting out watermelons, squash, pumpkins and cucumbers. To start we’re turning the sod pieces from our yard upside down in these beds. As the grass decomposes it will provide lots of warmth and nutrients for soil dwelling organisms (like earthworms).

Dealing with Old Pressure Treated Beds

New Raised Beds

We’ve built several new raised beds for our other vegetables. There are many options in terms of materials that last, but most are pricey. We decided that we can’t afford most of these options this year and have opted for untreated wood. Dimensions are 8 ft by 4 ft so that all weeding and maintenance can be done from the path. Each bed is 10 inches high. In time, we’d like to double that height so there will be less stooping and bending. But for now we’re opting for the shorter beds as a cost saving measure.

Because we’ve used untreated wood, these beds are also going to rot and will need to be replaced. But we should get two years out of them before this happens. For now, we’re placing most of our funds towards building the soil. That’s where we’ll see the highest return on our limited investment funds.

New Untreated Temporary Beds

Digging Out The Sod

There are sod lifters for rent at the builder’s supply stores, but our yard is not very large. The sandy soil is also very easy to work with. For now we’re tackling this by hand.

What you see is about 3 hours worth of work using a shovel and digging out one small piece at a time.

We’re keeping all of the lifted sod and allowing it to decompose on our yard. This is a lot of green material to compost and we’ll certainly see an increase in beneficial organisms showing up to deal with the task.

Amazing Shovel

Decision Resources, one of the world’s leading research and advisory firms focusing on pharmaceutical and healthcare issues, finds that Florida has 1.2 million untreated patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This number represents an enormous opportunity for pharmaceutical brand marketers and sales teams.

The new analytics tools from Decision Resources entitled PatientFinder: Asthma and PatientFinder: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease reveal that treatment rates for asthma among the U.S. states range from 40 percent to 83 percent, with the bottom rank held by Utah. Utah also has a very poor treatment rate in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, ranking 48th out of the 50 states. Mississippi ranks 49th in treatment rate for both diseases. However, both Utah and Mississippi represent smaller states compared with Florida’s 1.2 million untreated patients.

The result of this under-treatment is that significant opportunity remains for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease drug market growth in each of these states. This type of information is invaluable to pharmaceutical companies who are challenged to pinpoint the areas of greatest need for their drugs.

Why Pharmaceutical Companies Need this Information

With the type of information included in PatientFinder, pharmaceutical organizations can identify the local markets that offer the greatest opportunity for their branded drug. Companies can identify markets that are underserved and determine if they should increase direct-to-consumer advertising, work with the local managed care organizations to increase awareness of the disease and benefits of their drug or align sales representatives to maximize market potential.

About PatientFinder

PatientFinder is the only healthcare analytics tool that assesses local markets for expansion opportunity by determining the number of insured patients in each territory who have the disease but are untreated. PatientFinder covers each of the 50 U.S. states and 318 U.S. metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) and provides:

      — Disease-specific prevalence numbers for each U.S. state and MSA

      — Examination of treatment rates for the disease population to create percent treated and percent untreated estimates by state and MSA

      — Unique analysis of the untreated population examined through a filter of prescription (Rx) benefit coverage. The end result is an estimate of how many patients are untreated but can afford therapy within each territory — the true local measure of opportunity for pharmaceutical companies

Lyme disease on the rise in Canada If n

Lyme disease on the rise in Canada

If not diagnosed and left untreated, the symptoms of Lyme disease will progress from flu-like lethargy to severe heart and neurological damage. If treated with antibiotics, the normal prescription for Lyme disease, this disease is treatable with modern techniques, but many times this debilitating disease is misdiagnosed as something else and left untreated, in which case the complications associated with Lyme disease increase.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) usually records less than 60 cases a year of Lyme disease in a country with upwards of 30 million souls, but acknowledged in a 2008 report on Lyme disease in Canada that a large percentage of cases of Lyme disease probably go unreported or are mistakenly recorded as something else. The British Columbia based Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation argues that the real figure is more like 2,000 cases of Lyme disease each year, which they base in part on statistics from the U.S. that show cases in the United States have doubled in number since 1991 to more than 20,000 a year. The PHAC is currently working with the provinces and Canadian government to require doctors to make a report of all cases of Lyme disease they treat each year.

The Lyme causing bacteria (Borrelia burgdoferi) are transmitted primarily by two species: the blacklegged tick, which are most prevalent in parts of Nova Scotia, Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia, but their range has been reported lately by ecologists to be increasing and they can currently be found across the geological regions of Canada.

Prevention is the best cure for most diseases and Lyme disease is no different. To help, wear long sleeved shirts and tuck pants into socks when in blacklegged tick infected areas, and use DEET-based insect repellent – containing up to 30 percent DEET for adults; 10 percent for children six months to 12 years of age; and don’t give infants under six months any as it can cause additional medical concerns.

“We have the opportunity to do something that will be remembered for a long time after we’re gone.
In ‘60 s and ’70s, others fought for civil rights.
In the ‘80 s and 90s poeple fought against Apartheid and pulled back the iron Curtain.
This is our generation’s moment. We want to end extreme poverty in our lifetime.A child dying from a lack of food or a mosquito bite at the start of the 21st century will one day in the future appear utterly ridiculous.”
