I’m not usually into the werewolves, but I will make an exception to the rule for Benicio Del Toro. There is something about him that is hawt! The movie is called, The Wolfman and Sir Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt and the Matrix villain are also in the mix. Enjoy!

Lawrence Talbot is a haunted nobleman lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father, Talbot sets out to find his brother…and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself.
Lawrence Talbot’s childhood ended the night his mother died. After he left the sleepy Victorian hamlet of Blackmoor, he spent decades recovering and trying to forget. But when his brother’s fiancée, Gwen Conliffe, tracks him down to help find her missing love, Talbot returns home to join the search. He learns that something with brute strength and insatiable bloodlust has been killing the villagers, and that a suspicious Scotland Yard inspector named Aberline has come to investigate.

As he pieces together the gory puzzle, he hears of an ancient curse that turns the afflicted into werewolves when the moon is full. Now, if he has any chance at ending the slaughter and protecting the woman he has grown to love, Talbot must destroy the vicious creature in the woods surrounding Blackmoor. But as he hunts for the nightmarish beast, a simple man with a tortured past will uncover a primal side to himself…one he never imagined existed.

So much “viral” information about this film has been leaked I feel like I’ve already seen it. We get it; Mike’s mommy is making him do it. Did I already mention, Jason’s mom did the same thing? Ahh, but not to be outdone, it looks like Laurie might be getting in on the action. Think Halloween 4. Remember when Jamie in her little clown costume came down the stairs with the knife? I’m so not moved by this movie, but yes I will be sitting in a seat to watch it. I’m so freakin’ weak.

“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” Spawns Trend
It looks like Seth Grahame-Smith started a money making trend, that might be great or horrible for us all. If you like Jane Austen and zombies, “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” is a book for you.

Check out the list of the titles coming soon:
“Zombies” publisher Quirk Books is releasing “Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters,” which adds giant lobsters and rampaging octopi to Austen’s love story. Out this week from another publisher is “Mr. Darcy, Vampyre,” a supernatural sequel which portrays the aloof hero of “Pride and Prejudice” as an undead bloodsucker. Later this year comes “Jane Bites Back,” in which the author herself develops a taste for blood.

‘2001 Maniacs: Beverly Hellbillys’ Wraps Production
If you haven’t watched 2001 Maniacs get thee to a video store. The sequel to the Robert Englund hackfest finished production this week. And they released the one-sheet for the movie.

Ok, so I’m late as hell on these, but you know how I feel about these blood drive posters. Just in time for the release of Saw VI, Lionsgate along with the Red Cross are hosting their annual, “Give ‘Til It Hurts” blood drive in October. You can contact the Red Cross for more information on the event. Or not, but if you are anemic like me, write a check.

The posters usually makes me happy. I have to say I like the nurse better this year than last year’s. Remember how absolutely boring they were? This year they found the missing extra something. Could be the haute couture dress the chick is wearing in the second poster? I think yes…enjoy!

Courtney Cox spoke during a group interview at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Pasadena, Calif., where she was promoting her ABC show Cougar Town. Cox said the upcoming fourth installment will take place 10 years after the third film ended in 2000.

“She has a kid now,” Cox said. “She’s married to Dewey.” I guess I need to rewatch the third film because according Sci Fi Wire, Scream 3 ended with Deputy Dewey proposing to local newswoman-turned-true-crime guru Gale. The also are report that Cox and Williamson both beginning new shows this season, Williamson expects to turn in a final draft for Scream 4 during hiatus and make final deals with cast and directors after that.

Neve Campbell and Jamie Kennedy are too busy in obscurity to reprise their roles. Seriously, they both apparently turned the film down.

Ok, so they know that true horror fans are chomping at the bit, some of us holding out hope they did

Ok, so they know that true horror fans are chomping at the bit, some of us holding out hope they didn’t completely fuck up A Nightmare on Elm Street. They released two pretty good images, and from what I’ve been told, showed a not that bad “trailer” at Comic Con. Well, it was all to bait the hook, for the real marketing machine is only being oiled. Check out what my friend, Brad Fuller has to say:

So, where’s that Comic Con trailer?
1:40am, July 28, 2009
Comic Con was amazing – Warner Bros knows how to handle an event like that. They went to great lengths to make sure we were able to enjoy it in style. I must say, Drew, Sam and I have never been treated so well. It is a great comfort to know that they are taking Elm Street so seriously. I have faith in their marketing department, which brings me to the Comic Con trailer…

I am all too aware of the anger generated by their decision not to release the trailer on the Internet. As many of you know, I went to them and asked for it to be released, but frankly, I understand why they won’t. Our film comes out on April 30th. That is 9 months away – a really, really long time in the movie business. If they released the trailer now, it would surely be forgotten a few months from now, and then what? This amazing teaser would have not had the impact that it should. Believe me, as a fan, I share your frustration in not being able to see it, but it isn’t going anywhere. I am sure that each of you will see it, just closer to release. So don’t get bent out of shape because you have to wait, besides, many of you would have wished that you waited ’til later because after you see the teaser you will want to see the film so badly it will be brutal to wait the 9 months.

Now, if you’ve read my blog before you know I don’t really like these boys very much, but I think it is a brilliant move. Think about the frenzy they will have worked up by next year. But, I hope they realize this movie better bring it’s A-game or Freddy help ‘em.

This trailer was released weeks ago, I guess I’m slipping. Must have been in mourning for MJ for real. Anyway, here are the virustails:
As a deadly virus spreads across the globe, four friends hit the road for the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, where a plague-free oasis is said to await. But the trip isn’t easy; panicked mobs of dying victims and paranoid survivors stand in the way. And as the terrifying journey continues, the travelers begin to turn against one another. Chris Pine (Star Trek), Piper Perabo, Lou Taylor Pucci and Emily VanCamp star in this apocalyptic chiller.
From everything I’ve read and seen about this, it looks like it can bring us a new villain that we might actually like and fear a little. Finally, something original. This hits theaters. July 31, 2009.

THE COLLECTOR follows the story of handyman and ex-con Arkin, who aims to repay a debt to his ex-wife by robbing his new employer’s country home. Unfortunately for Arkin, a far worse enemy has already laid claim to the property – and the family. As the seconds tick down to midnight, Arkin becomes a reluctant hero trapped by a masked “Collector” in a maze of lethal invention – the Spanish Inquisition as imagined by Rube Goldberg – while trying to rescue the very family he came to rob.

This is an interesting read from the LA Times, regarding the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street. I decided to try to not hate this movie’s existence and to ignore my sheer disdain for all things Michael Bay and have faith in Sam Bayer (Smells Like Teen Spirit) and Wesley Strick (Cape Fear). I have liked some of their past work, but this is huge and a sacred franchise to us horror fans and if they f@cked it up, may Freddy come for them.
Welcome to Hollywood’s latest ‘Nightmare’
05:38 PM PT, Jul 13 2009
Everyone knows that there’s often less than six degrees of separation among most celebrities in Hollywood, but if you ever wanted to stump your film-buff friends with a great trivia question, just try this one on for size: What do writer-director Frank Darabont (“The Shawshank Redemption”), Johnny Depp, Peter Jackson, Iggy Pop, writer-director Brian Helgeland (“L.A. Confidential”), Hollywood novelist Bruce Wagner, director Chuck Russell (“The Mask”) and producer Michael De Luca have in common?
They all, at one time or another, worked on one of the films in the “Nightmare on Elm Street” series, the low-budget 1980s horror franchise that transformed New Line Cinema from an obscure store-front film distributor into the movie industry’s leading independent film studio. Having successfully relaunched two other classic franchises — “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “Friday the 13th” — New Line, now an in-house production company at Warner Bros., is amid rebooting its seminal “Nightmare” series with a new film that just finished shooting in Chicago last Friday.
Using the same title as the original Wes Craven film, it is a revamped, souped-up version of the old series, with Jackie Earle Haley replacing Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, the menacing, disfigured and claw-gloved figure who had the power to stalk and kill his victims from within their own dreams. The film, slated for release in the first half of 2010, also marks another collaboration between New Line and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production firm, which also partnered with New Line on the successful updating of “Chainsaw Massacre” and “Friday the 13th.”
The new film comes with its own set of built-in risks and challenges. The original “Nightmare” series, which was launched in 1984 and ended up — if you count all the sequels and spin-offs — spawning at least eight movies, was a low-budget, low-risk enterprise. All of the original films in the series cost under $8 million to make, with perhaps the most lucrative being 1987′s “Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors,” which cost $5 million and made nearly $45 million at the box office.
But much has changed in the horror movie landscape in the last two decades. The movies have become both more sophisticated, certainly in terms of visual effects, as well as more graphic in terms of “Saw”-like brutality and mayhem. For most of today’s young horror moviegoers, the “Nightmare” series is something of a barely noticeable video store relic. So why does New Line believe it can make lightning strike twice? And what exactly did all those famous folks I mentioned before do for the franchise? Keep reading:
“I just think there’s something incredibly ingenious and universally frightening about Wes Craven’s idea for Freddy Krueger,” said Toby Emmerich, New Line’s production chief. “The ‘Nightmare’ films are profoundly disturbing on a deep, human level because they’re about our dreams. It’s why we thought that we could reach an especially broad audience with a new film, since the feeling of having your dreams being invaded was something that would translate to any country and any culture.”
When Emmerich initially sat down several years ago with New Line founder Bob Shaye and longtime New Line production executive Richard Brenner, the questions everyone asked were: Could we do a new version? And should we do a new version? “And the answer we all had was … ‘Hell, yes,’ ” Emmerich says. “The whole idea was to find a way to reinvent the series and use contemporary filmmaking and storytelling to bring the series into the modern era.”
Emmerich hired Wesley Strick (best known for penning Martin Scorsese’s “Cape Fear”) to write the script for the new film, having been a big fan of a script Strick wrote for a un-produced prequel to “Seven,” the David Fincher thriller that was a huge hit for New Line in the mid-1990s. The studio brought in another writer, Eric Heisserer, who did a rewrite before the studio was ready to move ahead with the project. It has a budget of roughly $27 million, modest by today’s standards but more than the first four “Nightmare” films all put together.
All along, Emmerich relied heavily on Bay’s expertise, especially in terms of key creative choices. The men have not only worked on various New Line film projects together, they went to Wesleyan University, graduating a year apart in the mid-1980s, right after the release of the first “Nightmare” film. Bay was a strong advocate in the hiring of “Nightmare” filmmaker Sam Bayer, a veteran music video and commercials director who despite nearly two decades of experience making rock videos and winning MTV Video Music Awards and Clios has never directed a feature film before. (He is best known for directing Nirvana’s groundbreaking “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” having also directed clips for the likes of the Offspring, Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, Sheryl Crow, Green Day, the Strokes and Justin Timberlake.)
“Michael was very passionate about Sam,” Emmerich says. “When Michael and David Fincher came up as commercials directors, Sam was the other top young guy in the field — they were the three real hot shots of their era.” Even though Bayer has never managed to launch a film career, being involved with a number of projects that never got off the ground, Bay believed that he had the ability to capture the kind of seductive and unsettling imagery that would make “Nightmare” feel like a fresh, visually arresting moviegoing experience.
Initially, New Line had planned to hire a true unknown to assume the mantel of Freddy. But Emmerich was especially impressed by Haley’s spooky performance in Todd Field’s “Little Children,” an art film that New Line had released in 2006. “I was watching especially closely,” Emmerich says with a grin, “since some of his best scenes in the movie were opposite my brother, Noah. Freddy is this incredible stew of malevolence and anger, but he has also has a hint of vulnerability, and Jackie really has all of that and more — he just seemed completely right for the part.”
The horror movie field has been especially crowded — you might say overcrowded in recent years, with a host of recent films grabbing an increasingly smaller chunk of the box office returns. With so much scary-movie clutter, is it possible that New Line might be coming too late to the party? Emmerich didn’t dodge the issue.
“If we make a good movie and it fails, that will be the reason why — the marketplace was just too crowded,” he acknowledged. “But we think Freddy is the Coca-Cola of the horror market. There’s always a lot of soda pop and vitamin water out there, but there’s always room for Coke. You could say that when it comes to scaring people, Freddy is a pretty beloved brand.”

I always try to be really loyal to Courtney because she’s from my neck of the woods, so I will keep the cynicism to a minimum. Here are the details:
“We are going to be doing ‘Scream 4′,” Arquette told E!’s Marc Malkin, indicating that both himself and wife, Courteney Cox, will be returning to the roles that brought them together.

Rumors of a fourth “Scream” film have been stabbed before over the last few years, but Arquette’s comment seems to suggest it may actually happen. He went on to say that screenwriter Kevin Williamson, who penned the original films, was working on the script.

“Hopefully Wes Craven is going to direct,” he added. Arquette and Cox met while making the first “Scream” film in 1996 .
I don’t know about this, I really liked this franchise as a trilogy, because at the time it was cleaver, but I’m not sold.

This not addressed to the haters according to Fuller’s twits, I mean Tweats. Whatever, read it or not. This movie is probably as dreadful as that Friday was. The leaked script was horrendous. So, hate on haters, I say.

It’s a wrap, the new Elm Street is in the can!

It’s over – at least shooting is. I feel like I just ran a marathon. Though I will never know the actual feeling of finishing a marathon – I reckon this is what it feels like. Week after week of night shoots, distant locations and extreme weather, all taking its toll on all of us. Many of my other marathoners share the same 1000 yard stare I’ve got going. All of us simply spent.

But all that effort, time and pain was for a great cause. We did it all for Freddy. To realize our dream of bringing him back… the way we remember him. Scary, mean and nasty. Now I know it will be hotly debated here, but I can tell you I am proud of what we did. Proud that Jackie Earle Haley was uncompromising in his desire to create a Freddy that is uniquely his own creation. Proud of Andrew Clement for his desire to create a look that will shock and scare you. You will surely recognize Freddy, but he is distinctively different, more real, and more burned. Jackie and Clement spent four hours a day painstaking applying all the make-up, appliances, texture before coming to shoot. And when we were all done at the end of the day they had to stay for at least another hour to take it off. For those of you keeping score at home that is 5 hours a day, on top of 12 hour shooting days. Those among you who are so closed-minded that you can’t fathom anyone else playing the role, you are idiots. So much time and effort put into bringing Freddy back and you dismiss him before you’ve seen his efforts, it’s just stupidity. See what we’ve done and then pass judgment; but there isn’t a person out there who can tell me Jackie isn’t a terrifying, inspired, awesome Freddy. I am grateful to Bloody Disgusting for its early support of that idea and can confidently tell you that choice was simply inspired.

Sam Bayer suffered for this movie. He pushed himself so hard that I worried that he couldn’t maintain his pace, yet he did. No one had more sleepless nights than Sam – replaying the day’s events over and over in his head, questioning how to make it scarier, better. We would often have breakfast together before shooting and he was never content. If he was concerned that he could improve on a scare, he and our first ad, Myron, would figure out our schedule so we could shoot the scene until Sam felt it was as good as it could be. Sam has very high standards and he was unrelenting. He brought all his experience to those nightmares and they are outstanding – if you aren’t familiar with his work, check him out on YouTube, he is a great visual artist.

Making movies is like riding a unicycle down a steep hill. And when I read this back it seems like this movie was a dream shoot. Not true – we had all sorts of challenges on every level, but what was great about making this film was that we all had the same goal in mind. It really felt like a team effort to get to the finish line. And for me personally, when the end did come I didn’t want it to.

I know the blog has been quiet lately, but after I’ve rested a bit I will start posting more.

A couple other things. Pay attention to Comic Con, we will have a couple of surprises for you there. If everything goes as planned we will reveal something special there.

Also, I am twittering and posted a few behind-the-scenes photos, so keep checking here and Twitter for updates.
