Der Prototyp des neuen Foto-Uploaders für Facebook ist seit einigen Tagen online. Er soll in demnächst den alten, manchmal doch etwas hakligen Weg des Hochladens von Bildern ersetzen.

Alles, was man dafür tun muss, ist, zur Anwendung des Prototyps zu gehen (http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=184826119663&v=info) und dort auf “Prototyp aktivieren” zu klicken:

Daraufhin erhält man die Nachricht, dass man dieses neue Tool auch jederzeit wieder auf dieser Seite deaktivieren kann:

Geht man jetzt im eigenen Profil zum Foto-Reiter und möchte ein neues Bild hochladen, wird man durch einen kurzen Installationsvorgang geführt.

Danach kann man Fotos über ein Interface wie dieses hochladen, das Ordnerweise auf die eigene Festplatte zugreift (wie im Explorer):

Beim Hinzufügen weiterer Fotos in bestehende Alben landen die Bilder direkt im Album, ohne dass man – wie früher – direkt dorthin geleitet wird, um Beschriftungen, Tags etc. zu ergänzen. Man muss danach also manuell das Abum öffnen und zum neuen Foto gehen, um es beschriften zu können.

Beim Erstellen eines neuen Albums hat der neue Uploader bei mir nicht funktioniert. Ich wurde immer wieder darauf hingewiesen, mindestens eins Foto für das neue Album hinzuzufügen. das hatte ich zwar schon getan, funktioniert hat es wohl aber nicht. Einmal brachte der Uploader meinen Browser (Windows/Firefox) auch schon zum Absturz… Daher werde ich den Prototyp erst einmal wieder deaktivieren.

Dear Newbie, Current or Future Stock Photographers, Illustrators or Designers,

Success is relative.

In September of 2007 I dedicated two years to explore the incredible world of stock photography.  My story starts just over two years ago and will bring us through to the present day. I offer it here and now for the benefit of those deciding whether or not the road of stock photography is for them.  I also offer my assistance to those who wish to continue on their journey …

I believe a quick recap of where my interest in photography as a child came from will prove useful to the reader.

Photography had been an interest of mine since I began taking snapshot photos with “hand me down” cameras from my parents I was about 9 or 10 years old …I began taking up my own camera somewhere around 1979-1981 ish. I used 110 film cameras that I usually borrowed from my mother. My first camera I believe was a Polaroid One Step. I remember having to pay for my own film.  Early on I mowed lawns and later on  I worked for the family gas station starting at the age of 10 working for $2.00 / hour.  At the very least I know I was responsible for paying for the cartridges of film which were very expensive for around ten photos if I remember correctly.  This limited my picture taking ability as I was saving up to pay my way for a $750.00 30-Day bus tour trip across the country with the Boy Scouts to the National Jamboree in Virginia in 1981. Since the film for my camera was so expensive my mother allowed me to borrow her new at the time Sony Disc Camera. I took both cameras on my 30-day bus tour “Reunion with History” to the Jamboree.

The Statue of Liberty was getting a makeover,  during our tour but it was amazing and one of my favorite subjects. However, the best was when I went to the top of the “Twin Towers” World Trade Center.  The bridges and skyscrapers of New York City fostered my love for architecture and structures which I later studied at length.  I plan to dig up a couple of those first photos of mine from that trip, scan them, and post them here as a point-of-reference …

In July of 2007 I had relocated to Washington State after accepting a transfer to work at The Boeing Company’s Commercial Airplane HQ in Renton, Washington. During the course of my relocation I captured a few thousands pictures on a Canon SD750 camera and I was interested in seeing if I could market them by selling prints of them.

This round is all about the extras that are included with both of these free programs. For this post, I am going to take a look at some of the extras included with Google’s Picasa, and then do a later post about the extras included with Live Photo Gallery. To say that both of these programs are completely free to use, they both include some fantastic extras for you to make use of. I am going to concentrate on the ones that I feel are likely to be the most useful to  new users.

Name Tags.

The new version of Picasa now includes name tags, and this feature is very useful because its such a time saver.  As soon as you have installed Picasa and it has finished  loading in all of your photos stored on your computer, it begins to scan all of them for peoples faces. You can add a name to a persons photo and then Picasa will find all other instances of that named person and ask you to verify if those photos are of the same person or not  You can confirm them all or individually.  I  personally love this feature and it really works well, saving you the trouble of sifting through all of your photo collection to name individuals included in them.  However, do note here that Picasa will find every person’s face in every photo that you have stored! Luckily you can choose to tell it to ignore any that are superfluous.

Creating a Collage. 

Another useful feature included in Picasa is the ability to create a collage of a collection of your photographs.  To create a collage, you simply select some photos or pictures and then click on the Collage icon at the bottom of the viewing area.  You can scramble and shuffle the pictures, change the background to either a plain one or have one of the pictures as a background. Each picture included can have a frame or not, and you have complete control over the finished  size of the Collage.

Geotagging in Picasa.

Another very useful included feature is geotagging which is made so easy to do in the new version. If you have a photo that was taken at a particular place or spot, just click on the Places icon and a world map will load on the right hand side of the viewing screen. You can then move and click until you arrive at the town/city or area where the photo was taken. Then all you do is just drag and drop the chosen photo into the map to geotag it. You can add as many shots of that area/building etc as you want just by dragging them to the map area. Each photo geotagged is then assigned a small red ‘flag’ on the right hand lower side to denote that it has been geotagged. Its so easy!  Again, I love this feature.

Making a Movie

You can take a collection of pictures and easily create a movie out of them inside Picasa.  This feature is ideal for a collection of photos of a trip that you made or a day out for example,or as in my demo a theme.   You can add some music to the movie from your music files, decide on the title and the fonts used for it, choose the transitions between each photograph, play it through and then edit it until you are satisfied with the result. You can also add some captions to individual photos when you edit it.

Unfortunately I have not been able to  include the completed video in this post  to show you as  I had  lot’s of problems trying to get my video file uploaded to YouTube, in fact I had to give up trying in the end as I do not have unlimited uploads/downloads. This uploading videos area  definitely needs sorting out by the Picasa bods as it appears that I am not the only one who has experienced difficulty in this area.  Let’s hope that I have better luck in my next post when I’ll be taking a look at the extra features available in Live Photo Gallery.

TG EDIT. Have now managed to get the video uploaded to YouTube by cheating and using Windows Live Movie Maker instead. So the enclosed video is made with Picasa but uploaded with Movie Maker. I have not altered it in any way.

There are also times when a file that was a part of our system is uploaded. Hurts… We feel ourselves corrupted and now as an unusable system. A lost file fragment, just waiting our upload. Old files goes and new files born… Is up to us, those which stayed, integrate and give sense to the new ones.

so, the weekend..

saturday was boring, but on sunday, as i said, i went to this attraction park called tivoli world with maria (my best friend ) and both our families to see my sister dance at this one show. after the show, we had some fun on the rides.

after tivoli world, we all went to mcdonalds! for lunch. i had a cheeseburger, a medium french fries thingy, 3 mcnuggets, a large sprite and a kitkat ice-cream cone. mm.. yum yum.

there was a funny text written on the sprite cup :

i’ve nearly finished twilight. and i realized one thing.

the book is great. it’s the 5th time i read it and i’m still enjoying it just as much, especially the edward-bella relationship at the start-ish.

but catherine hardwicke fucked up everything. she cut out half the main characters’ relationship and she chose the wrong actors, or at least she gave them the wrong roles and characters to play. bella was too dull to be bella. edward was too human and girly to be edward. jacob was too grown-up-looking and well-built to be jacob.

hopefully, the new director has done all they could to fix things up a little. because new moon was a very enjoyable book and i’m going to re-read it this week before going to the cinema to finally watch the movie. and it better not be fucked up. because i want to get it on dvd later, just like i have twilight.

man.. just as i was writing, i got a phone call from my dad who went to drop my sister at flamenco lessons that they had had a car crash, a really bad one. O_O i got shit scared then. he told me they were totally fine, though they really did fuck up the car loads, and they crashed with another car (though i don’t YET know whose fault it was.. though probably my dad’s :S) and the police was there..

hopefully everything turns out fine.. :S

1. Deve ter tempo livre para postar no minimo uma vez por semana, porem não iremos ficar te enxendo para postar sempre, se estiver com problemas como provas, trabalho, vida pessoal, etc. Sempre que tiver que ficar ausente so pesso que avisse a mim antes ok ^^
2. Se você souber fazer upload ja tera uma vaga praticamente garantida. Vale lembrar que utilizamos apenas o Mediafire para fazer isso ok ^^
3. Ter uma net com boa velocidade e fundamental pois tera de baixar e upar arquivos, meio obvio ne? XD
4. Conheçimento em html e edição de imagens tambem e sempre bem vindo, mas não e algo realmente nescessario
5. Saber fazer encodes e outra coisa importante, mas para aqueles que não sabem eu mesmo explico com o maior prazer ok. Não e nescessario para as categorias de mangas e jogos.
6. O site e de MP4, mas aceitamos que vc coloque outros arquivos, como podem ver temos Shion no Ou em MKV e Furi Kuri em AVI. Porem não colocamos nenum arquivo com qualidade inferior ao MP4 como RMVB, RM, FLV, etc.
7. Quando nos enviar o e-mail por favor nos informe sobre qual categoria do site o intereça. Temos animes, filmes, ovas, tokusatsus, jogos, mangas…

Einer meiner Mitschüler erwähnte eines Tages am Mittagstisch, dass mit einem Programm Bilder generiert werden können, wenn man jede Kombination von Pixelfarben zusammensetzt: Sei es ein Gesicht oder ein Baum oder ein Tisch, alles kann generiert werden. So liesse sich theoretisch ein Programm schreiben, mit welchem man solange zufällig Bilder generieren kann, bis etwas Schlaues herauskäme, d.h. etwas Darstellendes.
Die Theorie, man könne alle möglichen Bilder generieren und daraus die darstellenden Bilder herauslesen, wurde ziemlich schnell verworfen: Selbst bei der Annahme, dass so ein 300×200 Pixel grosses Bild eine Dateigrösse von nur einem Byte habe, kamen wir auf folgende Werte:

256 mögliche Kombinationen pro (Bitmap-)Farbkanal
256^3 = 16′777′216 mögliche Kombinationen pro (Bitmap-)Pixel
16′777′216^(300×200) = ??? mögliche Kombinationen pro (Bitmap)-Bild

(das ??? ist ein Wert mit über 100 Stellen)

In Anbetracht solcher Tatsachen kamen wir zum Schluss, dass uns mit grosser Wahrscheinlichkeit nicht genügend Speicherplatz zur Verfügung stehen würde, um solch ein Projekt durchzuführen.
Nachdem wir nach und nach die Bildergrösse und die Farbanzahl herunterschraubten, landeten wir schliesslich bei Schwarzweiss-Bildern und einer Grösse von 50×50 Pixel, doch auch da liess uns das leidige Schachfeldproblem nicht los. Wir berechneten als grösstes quadratisches Schwarzweiss-Bild, das sich auf meinem Taschenrechner (bis 9.999999999e99) noch darstellen lässt, 18×18 Pixel(3.147579257e97 Möglichkeiten).

Das ist frustrierend.

Dubiose Seite

Nun gut, hier entwickelte ich meine Idee von Programmkunst: Man nehme eine Datei (wenn möglich keine Bilddatei) und stelle den Inhalt als Bild dar; hierzu wird lediglich ein Hex-Editor benötigt:

Vorbereitung

• Zieldatei auswählen
• Grösse der Zieldatei ermitteln
• Bildgrösse mittels Teiler der Zieldateigrösse bestimmen (z.B. bei 60′000 Bytes eine Bildgrösse von 300×200 Pixel)
• Mit einem Bildbearbeitungsprogramm der Wahl (MS Paint, Gimp, Photoshop, …) eine Bitmap-Grafik der gewünschten Grösse erstellen

Beachten: Es muss eine Bitmap-Datei sein, da sie unkomprimiert und folglich ganz unkompliziert ist.

Basis wechseln

• Mit einem Hex-Editor (BIEW, bvi, Emacs, …) das erstellte Bitmap öffnen
• Den Header des Bitmaps kopieren (die ersten 54 Bytes)
• Den kopierten Header vor die Bytefolge der Zieldatei einfügen (sollte die Copy-Paste-Aktion nicht möglich sein, kann man die Bytes auch abtippen, sind ja schliesslich nur 54 Bytes)
• Bild speichern
• Geniessen

Als Testobjekt musste bei mir die Windows-Version des Firefox-Crashreporters herhalten. Als Tools benutzte ich gHex und Gimp, und das Resultat sah folgendermassen aus:

Wie auf dem Screenshot vielleicht zu erkennen ist, habe ich sämtliche Nullbytes rausgelöscht, aus Angst, es könne etwas Unerwartetes passieren. Aber wie es scheint, ist die Bytefolge doch nicht relevant.

Doch was will ich damit jetzt erklären?

Dateien lassen sich als Bilder tarnen.

Angenommen, wir wollen einen Webhoster oder sonst eine Plattform nutzen, die nur Multimedia-Inhalte wie Bilder und Videos akzeptiert, um unsere (nicht-Multimedia-)Files dort zu lagern. Ein Umbenennen der Dateierweiterung wird nicht funkionieren, die Hosts fressen das Format nicht. Aber als Bilder getarnt funktioniert es. Das ist insbesondere praktisch, wenn man Dateien kostenlos ins Internet laden und verbreiten möchte.
Allerdings ist die “Datei > Bild > Internet > Bild > Datei”-Geschichte relativ umständlich und nicht für die Allgemeinanwendung empfohlen.

Nichtsdestotrotz: Vielleicht findet sich hier auf meinem Blog eines Tages ein ominöses, nichtsbedeutendes Smiley-Icon, hinter welchem sich ein Programmcode oder ein Zip-File versteckt. Und dann heisst es: OPEN SHARE!

Bei WordPress funktioniert das nicht; hier werden keine Bitmaps akzeptiert… Und Achtung: Man kann auch in ein 1×1 Pixel grosses Bild ein 5 GB-File verstecken, allerdings nur solange, bis man das File mit einem Bildbearbeitungsprogramm editiert: Da gehen die überstehenden Bytes verloren – das gilt auch für das Komprimieren eines Bitmaps (abgesehen davon macht es ohnehin keinen Sinn, den Code zu “komprimieren”, denn spätestens dann ist er nutzlos).

Ich werde mich bei Gelegenheit mal ein bisschen näher mit PNG- oder JPG-Formaten beschäftigen, um herauszufinden, ob da auch Files sinnvoll drin versteckt werden können (wird jedoch zur Zeit noch stark bezweifelt).

We all are born photographers arent we? Anyway, these days the trouble doesnt end there, you have to upload the photo somewhere to share it with others. There are loads of image uploading sites on the web. Some of them are really popular and some popular but useless. So, here’s my take on some of them.

Flickr happens to be perhaps the most popular image uploading site. However it does have an uploading limit. So, basically its useful for posting private/family photos, but not for using it as a source for pics on your blog. And of course as with all yahoo services, you need to register to start uploading.

I learnt about a really cool image uploading site today called Imgur, which lets you do a whole lot of stuff apart from letting you upload your pics and it has a really cool interface. No registration is needed to upload. But the problem with it is, your images get deleted if they dont receive a ‘hit’ in 3 months. So basically if you have a huge blog which isnt very popular and you dont go through your really old posts at least once in 3 months, your images get deleted.

Photobucket is good, great options etc. but way too many ads for my liking. I dont feel like using it even for my family pics! You also require a registration to upload.

Finally, Imageshack. I’m sure most of you have used at some point in time, but fact is imageshack is the best we have! You dont need to register to upload images, your images get deleted only when they dont receive a hit at least once in 1 year (pretty reasonable), and if you register, your images dont get deleted at all! Plus, there are loads and loads of options (more for registered users). Registration, as with all these services, is free.

Since the holidays are fast approaching, I decided to look for some wonderful happy people illustrations to share.  The copyright free images I chose this week are from vintage Charles Dickens.  I have a set of books that are a collection of Dickens works.  The books are “The Anniversary Edition of the Works of Charles Dickens, February 7, 1812″.  They were published in 1911 by P.F. Collier & Son of New York.

All of the illustrations I’m showing here are from Pickwick Papers Part I.  Because this is a collection,  the illustrations are done by a variety of  artists.  I’m going to present them in the order that they appear in the book.

The style in this illustration is distinctly different from the first.  I am not familiar enough with the history of the illustrations or illustrating in general to  state any facts.  I can share my observations.  It is unsigned by the artist and appears, with the cross-hatching, to be specifically designed for printing.

 When I saw the illustration above of Mr. Pickwick, I immediately pulled this book out.  I was specifically looking for some characters that made me happy.   With the demolished picnic set in front of him and his hand resting on a jug of spirits(?), he is the picture of contentment.

  The previous 3 illustrations are from a pre-1923 copyright book.  They should be copyright-free.  All the images have been uploaded to my flickr page.  They have been attributed to Creative Commons.  If you click on the image, you will be taken to the image on my flickr page where you can chose the size of image to download for free.
