La Secretaría de la Unión por el Mediterráneo (UPM), cuya sede estará en Barcelona, tomará forma definitiva el próximo día 21 con la aprobación de su estatuto y la más que probable elección para dirigirla de Ahmad Masadeh, el actual representante de Jordania ante la Unión Europea y el primero y único que ha presentado oficialmente su candidatura.

Anulada la cumbre de Estambul de los ministros de Exteriores de la UPM -no sin cierto alivio por parte de los anfitriones, que evitan la embarazosa visita del jefe de la diplomacia israelí, Avigdor Lieberman-, el estatuto será aprobado en Bruselas por el Comité de Seguimiento, compuesto mayoritariamente por embajadores. Casi con toda probabilidad, en la reunión se decidirá también nombrar a Masadeh para el puesto de secretario, una función que corresponde a un país de la ribera sur del Mediterráneo.

La elección de Masadeh supone un revés para los países del Magreb, cuyas rivalidades les impiden tomar una postura común. Los dos presidentes de turno, el francés Nicolas Sarkozy y el egipcio Hosni Mubarak, ratificarían a continuación el nombramiento, lo que permitirá precisar los detalles de las obras que se han realizado en el barcelonés Palacio de Pedralbes, que acogerá este organismo que debería arrancar junto a la presidencia española de la UE en enero.

I am learning something new today – it’s about WordPress.  This is very good! I am glad I have decided to join this AKEPT workshop held at UPM.

Malte n’est pas franchement l’endroit idéal pour les balades en fôret, c’est le moins qu’on puisse dire : ici, à part les palmiers et quelques touffes d’herbes, la végétation est bien rare, pour ne pas dire inexistante. Pour moi qui ai grandi à deux pas de la Vallée de Chevreuse, autant vous dire que ça me fait tout drôle !

Bien sûr, en émigrant à Paris intra-muros il y a quelques années, je me suis habituée à ne plus avoir autant de verdure autour de moi, mais dès que la nature me manquait je pouvais m’évader pour un weekend champêtre dans la maison parentale.

Ma petite maman a donc immédiatement pensé à m’envoyer le lien quand elle a découvert le site Forest Life, une magnifique balade en forêt virtuelle tellement bien faite qu’on s’y croirait vraiment l’espace d’un instant.

UPM est un groupe finlandais parmi les plus importants au monde dans le secteur de l’exploitation forestière. Afin de sensibiliser petits et grands aux enjeux de cette activité et a son impact sur l’environnement, la firme a mis en place ce site remarquablement bien fait et accessible en cinq langues.

L’internaute se promène dans une magnifique forêt à la découverte de ses habitants et des interventions de l’homme dans ce milieu. La navigation (intelligemment schématisée dans un onglet “Instructions”) se fait en parcourant différents tableaux qui suivent le cycle de vie de la forêt, où l’internaute peut cliquer à sa guise pour avoir des renseignements sur les sujets qui l’intéressent.

Le riche contenu multimédia (superbes photos, sons, vidéos…) permet de s’immerger totalement dans l’ambiance de la forêt, permettant une véritable cure de chlorophylle en ligne ! Les informations sont abondantes et la visite tellement plaisante que c’est un site sur lequel on peut facilement se perdre des heures. Sans jamais tourner en rond : la rubrique “Paramètres” recense pour nous les endroits qu’il nous reste à explorer.

Selamat bercuti aku ucapkan kepada rakan-rakan sempena cuti semester ini. Wah! Sedar tak sedar, ini adalah cuti semester terakhir untuk aku. Hampir empat tahun, segala begitu pantas berlalu.

Bulan matahari terbit dan terbenam. Silih berganti siang dan malam. Masih sama nombor pada muka jam, cuma semakin banyak ia berpusing, semakin jauh kita meninggalkan masa silam. Bagi yang perjalanan hidupnya lancar seperti direncana, teruslah menggapai apa yang diidam. Tidak pula terlambat bagi mereka yang masih kelam.

Puncak gunung tertinggi menjanjikan pemandangan  indah dari atasnya tetapi untuk sampai kepuncak itu, banyak ranjau dan liku sepanjang laluan yang perlu diredah.Ya, begitu juga hidup. Segalanya nampak mudah, namun sebenarnya susah. Jadi, jangan ambil mudah apa yang nampak mudah.

Semoga Tuhan membantu sepanjang perjalanan hidup ini. Membalas jasa ayah dan ibu sudah tentulah menjadi prioriti. Aku juga impikan kehidupan sendiri. Punya anak dan isteri. Tapi itu mungkin masih jauh lagi. Yang penting, aku harus sempurnakan segala misi dan visi yang aku tetapkan selagi masih ada sisa-sisa mengutip cebisan-cebisan ilmu di alam universiti.

Sekarang, mahu siap-siap berkemas untuk pulang ke kampung. (‘:’)

 Luiz Brandão, vulgo professor Zaga de fotografia da UPM, foi o responsável por uma oficina realmente produtiva sobre retratos. Foi capaz de sintetizar em uma hora e meia os conceitos básicos para se trabalhar com flash dentro de um estúdio, ainda que pequeno. É claro que, como o próprio deixou bem claro, é necessário bem mais do que isso, porém foram ensinamentos importantes para quem pretende alguma coisa dentro dessa arte documental, ou estética somente.

Zaga completa o time magnífico – sem querer “rasgar seda”, mas sendo justo no emprego do adjetivo – de professores de fotografia, sem falar no pessoal todo do laboratório.

Esta mais do que na hora do Mackenzie pensar num curso específico…ou, quem sabe, numa pós em fotojornalismo… Sonhar não faz mal, faz?

El Universo – Apocalipsis Galáctico [2da Temporada]

El universo tal y como lo conocemos está destinado a la extinción. El espacio, la materia e incluso el tiempo dejarán un día de existir y no hay nada que podamos hacer al respecto. Se revela una dura realidad sobre el futuro del universo, ya que podría colapsarse o arder, o incluso quedar atrapado por una era glacial galáctica. Cualquiera de estos escenarios sería susceptible de ocurrir en un futuro muy lejano. Sin embargo, nuestro universo también podría ser destruido de repente por una “fluctuación cuántica aleatoria”, una burbuja de destrucción capaz de arrasar el cosmos en su totalidad en un abrir y cerrar de ojos. En cualquier caso, no importa cómo acabe, la vida en nuestro universo está condenada.

De los planetas a las estrellas y al borde de lo desconocido, la historia y la ciencia chocan en esta épica exploración del Universo y sus misterios. Es un universo muy antiguo. Sin embargo, a tan sólo 50 años desde que el primer hombre se aventurara en el espacio ultraterrestre, los cielos están dando sus mayores secretos. Telescopios espaciales que capturan violentas imágenes del nacimiento de estrellas y su caída en agujeros negros. Todos han cambiado de manera significativa la manera en que nos vemos a nosotros mismos. Uso de vanguardia en gráficos por ordenador, esta serie lleva el universo a la tierra para mostrar cómo sería la vida en otros planetas, y de imaginar qué tipo de formas de vida podría evolucionar en atmósferas exóticas. Estos episodios examinan los descubrimientos que fueron realizados y que científicos y exploradores que se atrevieron a aventurarse en el territorio inexplorado del universo.

I was “organizing” my thoughts (or so I think) for my next blog entry which in my plan, should be about why post a picture of one’s back on SNS or about blogs and relationships, when I remembered the poem which I chose for my oral interpretation in my Speech 11 class. The poem entitled “The Most Beautiful Flower” by Cheryl Costello-Forshey instantly captured my interest and I just fell in love with it right away. It really had a good message to which everyone can surely relate to. For now, I would (temporarily) stop organizing my thoughts regarding my original next blog entry plan in order to share what I’ve realized from the poem.

We are sometimes too busy with our own pain that we are totally oblivious of reality which is knocking so hard on our doors and later on, on our heads. Reality has a lot of things to tell us. First, a person in pain, physically and all the –lys one can think of, is not an isolated case. It’s not actually just pain but other feelings as well which we try our best to repress just because, admittedly, we are not invulnerable.

Another thing which reality wants to tell us is that life can’t be all good or else, it is nothing but a dream. No further explanation needed, I think. This should be self-explanatory.

If there is a way in, there is absolutely a way out. Any one going through misery, pain, problems and other “not-so-good” conditions, which people tend to shoo away most of the time, encountered an “entry point”. There is a way out only that the person has to find it by him/herself. In actuality, a person’s pain may be self-inflicted but credited to other causes.

Facing life and what it has to offer greatly depends on how people look at it. As my tagline in this blog goes and as what I’ve read in organizational behaviour books, perception is subjective. When reality just kicks people so hard, it would no longer be a (philosophical) question of free will vs. determinism but just a response of acceptance or denial: how (and okay, fine, if you want, include the Ws).

Lastly, one can’t expect everything to fall under his or her plans or expectations. But one should expect things to fall under their proper places, which he or she doesn’t have control over.

There are times when we have to be aware of what we don’t have, what we are not and where we are not at in order to appreciate what we have, what we are and where we are at. Opposites exist so that people may (I think) have a point of comparison, be able to tell things apart and learn the so-called “appreciation”. The most trivial things are taken for granted by some but are considered as wonders for others. It’s again because perception is subjective.

The Most Beautiful Flower

The park bench was deserted

as I sat down to read,

Beneath the long, straggly branches

of an old willow tree.

 

Disillusioned by life with good reason to frown,

For the world was intent

on dragging me down.

 

And if that weren’t enough to ruin my day,

A young boy out of breath approached me,

all tired from play.

He stood right before me

with his head tilted down,

And said with great excitement,

“Look what I found!”

 

In his hand was a flower,

and what a pitiful sight,

With its petals all worn down

not enough rain, or too little light,

Wanting him to take his dead flower

and go off to play,

I faked a smile and then shifted away.

 

But instead of retreating

he sat next to my side,

And placed the flower to his nose and declared

with overacted surprise,

“It smells pretty and it’s beautiful too.

That’s why I picked it; here it’s for you!”

 

The weed before me was dying or dead.

Not vibrant of colours, orange, yellow or red.

But I knew I must take it,

or he might never leave.

 

So I reached for the flower and replied,

“Just what I need.”

But instead of him placing the flower

in my hand,

He held it mid-air without reason or plan.

 

It was then that I noticed

for the very first time,

That the weed-toting boy could not see,

he was blind.

 

I heard my voice quiver,

tears shone like the sun,

As I thanked him for picking

the very best one.

 

“You’re welcome” he smiled

and then ran off to play,

Unaware of the impact he’s had on my day.

 

I sat there and wondered

how he managed to see,

A self-pitying woman

beneath an old willow tree.

How did he know about

my self-indulged plight?

 

Perhaps from his heart, he’d been

blessed with true sight.

Through the eyes of a blind child,

at last I could see,

 

The problem was not with the world;

the problem was me.

And for all of those times

I myself had been blind,

 

I vowed to see the beauty in life,

and appreciate every second that’s mine.

 

And then I held that wilted flower

up to my nose and breathed in the fragrance

of a beautiful rose.

And I smiled as I watched that young boy,

another weed in his hand,

About to change the life

of an unsuspecting old man.

Selon le président français, la Turquie doit rester à l’extérieur de l’UE. Mais ce pays pourrait-il jouer un rôle actif au sein de l’Union pour la Méditerranée (UPM), si chère à Nicolas Sarkozy? C’est en tout cas la thèse défendue par Murat Daoudov, directeur du Centre des relations européennes de la municipalité de Marmara dans une tribune publiée par le quotidien Libération le 28 octobre.

Selon le chercheur, seul Ankara pourrait réussir à politiser l’Union pour la Méditerrannée, transformé en projet apolitique “devant la complexité de la situation en Méditerrannée”. La politisation du processus constituant l’espoir “vers plus de démocratie”. “Comment assurer un contenu promettant le changement en Palestine, pour plaire aux capitales arabes, tout en évitant de déplaire par une perspective de changements chez elle?”, interroge le chercheur. Avant d’indiquer, implacable: “Devant ce pari improbable, la Turquie apparaît incontournable”.

Sans un soutien de Paris à l’adhésion à l’UE, Ankara acceptera-t-elle de jouer ce rôle au sein de la très française Union pour la Méditerranée, critiquée pour son immobilisme par de nombreux observateurs? La France compte-t-elle sur la Turquie pour jouer ce rôle ou a-t-elle abandonné tout idée de politisation du processus. Ces questions méritent en tout cas d’être posées.

Euron arvo on kohonnut merkittävästi esim. dollaria vasten ja siten vaikeuttaa vientifirmojen toimintaa. Suomessa lisäksi palkat ovat kohonneet aika reippaasti viime vuosina ja maamme on kustannuksiltaan kallis. Ruoka, asuminen, verot, autot, liikkuminen. Kaikki on kallista. Tänään UPM ja Nokian ja Siemensin yhteinen verkkoyksikkö ilmoitivat isoista säästöistä ja väenvähennyksistä. UPM aikoo vähentää n. 900 Suomesta ja NSN globaalisti yhteensä 7-9% 64 000 työntekijästään. Miten tuo jakaantuu eri maiden kesken on epäselvää eikä NSN tai Nokia antanut asiasta lisätietoja. Selvää kuitenkin lienee että vähennyksiä tulee Suomeenkin. Mistä se elintaso ja elanto aiotaan Suomessa tehdä tulevaisuudessa? TV1:n uutisissa näiden synkeiden talousuutisten jälkeen tuli juttua että kuntien pitäisi ottaa pakolaisia vaikka väkisin. Jotenkin on sellainen fiilis että ei tuo ainakaan ole se lääke millä Suomi saadaan nousuun. En ymmärrä miten meillä on varaa ottaa kouluttamattomia ihmisiä tänne aivan erilaisista kulttuureista elämään verovaroilla. En oikein usko että Suomen kilpailukykyä ja elintasoa lisää myöskään ne veronkorotukset mistä etenkin nuo sosialistit haaveilevat Jutta Urpilainen etunenässä. Joka viikko pitäisi jotain veroa korottaa ja se sitten toisi autuuden.

En tiedä, sellaiset fiilikset on että pelkästään Suomen kotimarkkinoilla toimivia yrityksiä pitänee välttää tulevaisuudessa. Suomen elintaso saattaa laskea tulevaisuudessa ja sen mukana myös kotimarkkinoilla toimivien yritysten tuotot. Sekä UPM:n että Nokian kurssit laskivat hieman tänään.

En la mañana del día 3 de noviembre se han manifestado más de 4000 personas entre Policías Municipales, Agentes de movilidad, Bomberos y Personal de Servicios de Emergencia en el Centro de Madrid, luchando por un convenio laboral justo, esta vez no se podrá decir que han colapsado el tráfico,  ya que los organizadores en todo momento han proclamado consignas para evitar dicha situación. El representante de CSI.F indicó  ”ha quedado patente la unidad sindical”.

La semana pasada los sindicatos de la Policía Municipal acusaron al alcalde de la capital, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, de incumplir la promesa electoral de oferta de empleo público de 1.500 policías que, junto a la asunción de nuevas competencias, “ha llevado al Gobierno municipal a querer subir el déficit de la plantilla, modificando jornadas y horarios operativamente eficaces durante más de 25 años”.Asimismo, recalcaron que sus reivindicaciones no son económicas, sino laborales y de coordinación de la vida familiar y laboral, al tiempo que denunciaron que el nuevo convenio plantee remuneraciones por productividades. El portavoz de la Unión de Policía Municipal, Javier Pallares, también se quejó del estilo del Ayuntamiento, “que ha conseguido judicializar” las relaciones laborales de este colectivo. “Hemos ganado juicios, desde el nombramiento ilegal de mandos hasta la suspensión arbitraria de días de vacaciones”, dijo, al tiempo que el representante de CC.OO., Federico Solvez, precisó que con estas medidas lo que quiere hacer el Consistorio es “demorar”  los pagos  “ante el atasco de tres años del Contencioso-Administrativo”.

Por su parte, el portavoz del Colectivo Profesional de Policías Municipales (CPPM), Francisco Torres, arremetió contra la reorganización de los horarios de trabajo planteados por el Ayuntamiento ya que, a su juicio, estarían disponibles en los nuevos turno el 17 por ciento de la plantilla frente al 89 por ciento en el modelo actual. “Ahora tenemos tres turnos de ocho horas y ha funcionado bien. Ahora pretenden que haya más turnos y crear uno llamado Noche 2 para trabajar las noches de jueves a sábado que, según nos indicaron, si nadie quiere incorporarse a él sería cubierto por agentes de nuevo ingreso. “Y nosotros no queremos hipotecar la vida familiar de esos policías”, indicaron los sindicalistas.

As entidades do Terceiro Setor podem requerer títulos que as concedam reconhecimento da idoneidade, isenção de tributos e outros benefícios, proporcionando, ainda, credibilidade, lisura e atração de investimentos.

Os Títulos podem ser de natureza privada ou pública, como os certificados de utilidade pública federal, estadual e municipal (UPF, UPE, UPM), certificado de entidade beneficente de assistência social (CEBAS), entre outros.

Recomenda-se que antes da requisição de qualquer certificado, porém, a entidade interessada informe-se sobre as obrigações decorrentes de cada título concedido, avaliando o custo benefício desta opção.

Nos próximos posts serão apresentados, passo a passo, os processos de aquisição dos títulos e as vantagens e obrigações decorrentes.

Seluruh kawasan UPM hari ini (27 Oktober 2009) bakal mengalami gangguan bekalan air. Gangguan bekalan air tersebut berpunca daripada kebocoran yang berlaku pada paip utama. Gangguan bekalan air tersebut dijangka pulih sepenuhnya pada hari esok, 28 Oktober 2009.

Tinjauan unit media Pro Mahasiswa sebentar tadi mendapati, bekalan air di beberapa buah kolej sudah kehabisan. Kebanyakan mahasiswa menghadapi masalah untuk mandi, membasuh pakaian dan sebagainya.

Sementara itu, beberapa mahasiswa memaklumkan kepada unit media Pro Mahasiswa, gangguan bekalan air masih lagi tidak terjejas di beberapa buah kawasan seperti di kawasan fakulti, masjid dan surau. Namun begitu, para mahasiswa dinasihatkan agar menggunakan air di kawasan tersebut secara berhemah bagi mengelakkan pembaziran.

Peningkatan beberapa kes kecurian terhadap beberapa aset peribadi sejak akhir-akhir ini telah menimbulkan kebimbingan di kalangan mahasiswa UPM. Antara aset yang sering menjadi perhatian pencuri antaranya seperti motosikal dan juga komputer riba.

Mengulas mengenai isu tersebut, exco Pengurusan Profesional dan Kualiti MPPUPM saudari Siti Fasihah Zahari berkata, “Kejadian kecurian memang sentiasa berlaku menjelang cuti semester. Walaupun pihak keselamatan telah mempertingkat kawalan pada waktu-waktu seperti ini, namun kes kecurian masih lagi terus berlaku. Untuk itu, saya menasihatkan agar pihak mahasiswa mempertingkatkan kawalan kendiri terhadap aset peribadi mereka. “

Siti Fasiha turut menasihatkan mahasiswa agar segera melaporkan kepada pihak MPP, MTM kolej atau terus menghubungi bahagian keselamatan sekiranya melihat sebarang kejadian yang mencurigakan. Bahagian keselamatan boleh dihubungi di talian 03-89467990 atau 03-89467470.

Institut Penyelidikan Matematik (INSPEM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) memainkan peranan penting dalam menjadikan Malaysia sebagai sebuah hub pendidikan antarabangsa dan pusat rujukan pendidikan terutamanya dalam bidang penyelidikan dan pendidikan Matematik, kata Timbalan Menteri Pengajian Tinggi, Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah.

Beliau berkata persidangan-persidangan Matematik yang dianjurkan oleh INSPEM memberi banyak manfaat dari segi percambahan idea untuk merangsang penyelidikan Matematik yang lebih intelektual dalam kalangan saintis negara kita.

“INSPEM menyokong dasar Matematik yang merupakan ‘bahasa sejagat’ dalam bidang sains,” katanya pada Majlis Perasmian Persidangan Matematik Antarabangsa dalam Penyelidikan dan Pendidikan (ICREM4) kali ke 4 di Hotel Renaissance, Kuala Lumpur.

Persidangan yang bertujuan untuk membincangkan penyelidikan dan penemuan terkini dalam pendidikan Matematik tersebut akan menghimpunkan seramai 180 orang peserta yang terdiri daripada pelajar Master dan Doktor Falsafah serta penyelidik dari UPM, negara Timur Tengah (Qatar, Arab Saudi, Kuwait, UAE dan Sudan) dan dari Asia (Indonesia dan Vietnam).

Persidangan kali ini melibatkan 14 orang penceramah dari Malaysia, Brazil, Rusia, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Indonesia dan Bangladesh.

Persidangan yang bertemakan ‘Cabaran Penyelidikan dan Pendidikan Dalam Matematik Sains’ ini turut dianjurkan dengan kerjasama Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam Academy of Sciences & Technology (IMVAST), Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia (ITB), Persatuan Sains Matematik Malaysia (PERSAMA) dan Malaysian Society for Cryptology Research (MSCR).

Hari ini untuk kesekian kalinya aku akan mula menduduki peperiksaan akhir semester 2009/2010-1. Tujuh semester telah berlalu begitu pantas. Tak terasa ia berlalu. Tapi aku mesti bersedia untuk menghadapi masa depan. Inilah masanya untuk aku mencari peluang-peluang terakhir mencari ilmu dalam salah satu episod perjalanan hidup aku. Kertas pertama jam 2030 ini dan akan berakhir pada 11 November nanti. Doakan aku ya.

It seems so fast that this semester is about to end in two days; however, that doesn’t stop us from proclaiming the good intention that social media is trying to tell everyone, right?

Last week, our lecturer gave us the summary of our whole semester. Imagine all of the concepts discussed for a few months discussed in less than hour! Seems hard, right? Nah. The lecturer made it all simple.

The lecture revolved around four things, four things that make social media what it is today, and four things that would make social media stand the test of time. He gave us these concepts:

Communication. Ah… The essence of being social in social media. It is a no-brainer that people should communicate; however, people should also know what, when, where, and how to communicate properly. This is the challenge that communicologists share to everyone. This is what we are learning up till now, even after four years of being soaked with this core concept.

Collaboration. A primary factor why net was given a 2.0. People working together to achieve a common goal is vital resource of social media. It gets people thinking, and working, and developing together. It leaves no one behind. It makes a standard that everyone agrees to. Collaboration is not new, but collaboration in the Internet is something worth exploring by everyone for their own personal development.

Education. People want reliable and informative stuff. That is what we aim for. Though we may know the w’s and h of communication, we must also learn the effect of that communication to people. Will it benefit them? In what sense? Many business professionals seek the answer to this, but we must also take note that these are not for the business-minded only.

Entertainment. If you want to entertain people with some information that is at the same time relevant and helpful, you may want to explore your creative side. Better yet, use collaboration to get that infinite talent that is available over the Internet. Entertainment is essential, especially of you want to have a striking message to have a striking effect to the people.

These 4 simple concepts are what makes social media a new foundation for everyone to step on. Let us see the possibilities of this technology, and reap the rewards for letting ourselves in the world of social media.
