O site aqui ainda tá sem um layout bacana, mas resolvi escrever porque meus dedinhos estavamos nervosos. Hoje resolvi fazer um sábado cultural e conhecer a exposição “De dentro pra fora/de fora pra dentro” que tá rolando no nivel 1 e 2 do MASP. Fiquei impressionada com a qualidade das obras que estão lá. São 6 artistas especializados em arte de rua: Carlos Dias, Daniel Melin, Ramons Martins, Stephan Doitschinoff,  Titi Freak e Zezão.

Titi, como sempre, mandou muito bem, as obras estão lindas. Mas quem me surpreendeu muito foi o Stephan. Nunca tinha visto nada dele e achei animal. A obra é cheio de detalhe, tipografias diferentes e muitas referências religiosas. Bom, não vou falar mais, quem quiser saber, tem que ir até lá. Só digo que vale MUITO a pena. Aproveita que de terça feira o MASP é de graça!

Ainda hoje, resolvi também conhecer a Red Bull House Of Art. Quando li pela primeira vez sobre o projeto, achei super interessante a ideia: em um hotel desativado que fica na Avenida São João, ficarão hospedados 10 artistas de 7 nacionalidades, onde produzirão obras enquanto durarem suas estadias. Porém achei que deixou muito a desejar. Poucas obras e monitores destreinados, faltou organização. Mas a viagem não foi em vão, conheci as obras de El Bocho que tem um traço delicados e desenha mulheres lindas. Se liga:

Fora isso, achei muitas coisas em comum entre as duas exposições: paredes de lousa, que o púlbico podia rabiscar e  ambas trataram as exposições como um movimento ” de dentro pra fora”.

La exposición “Badalona Underground” es un buen ejemplo de arte comprometido con su contexto. Sus llamados homenajes son en sí la reivindicación de lo cotidiano, de aquello que pasa desapercibido y sin embargo se mantiene impertérrito mientras hace su permanente contribución al paisaje urbano, a la gente. Barri Groc hizo su propia reflexión y posteriormente su elección de tres personajes “anónimos” que merecían ser homenajeados en la ciudad de Badalona.

Saeed, Toni y Josep fueron los elegidos por el colectivo por sus continuas y particulares contribuciones sociales y por su lucha cotidiana. El cuarto personaje tenia que decidirlo la gente y habilitaron una web y un foro para que eso sucediera, y sucedió:

El artista Jorge Rodríguez Gerada vuelve a sorprendernos con una de sus impresionantes intervenciones urbanas. Esta vez ha viajado hasta Lubjana, capital de Slovenia, para “retratar” a una de sus ciudadanas, sin embargo, esta vez, además de la intervención se realizó paralelamente una exposición de lienzos. Fue una de las primeras veces en las que se pudo ver obra del artista sobre telas pues se trata de una faceta que ahora se encuentra en plena fase de exploración por su parte.

Desde aquí alabamos su trabajo enormemente pues está dotado de un discurso de directa reflexión social en la que genera preguntas a un público ocasional que quizá antes nunca se habían hecho.

El pasado 14 de Noviembre, en motivo del Dia Mundial de la Diabetes, se colgó una lona de siete metros en la fachada del Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid con una reproducción de la obra que el artista Sixeart donó a la Fundación para la Diabetes. Fundación que fue una de las primeras en constituirse en Europa para luchar contra esta enfermedad y que actualmente realiza importantes campañas de sensibilización para prevenirla y para aprender a convivir con ella.

“La reproducción de un lienzo que representa a un gran ‘guerrero azul contra la diabetes’, creado por un artista internacional del ‘graffitti’, cubrirá este fin de semana la fachada del Círculo de Bellas Artes para recordar, en el Día Mundial de la Diabetes, que se celebra este sábado, la importancia de que sea el propio paciente quien se implique en el conocimiento y control de su enfermedad.”   ADN

El Doctor Rafael Gabriel, jefe médico de la fundación, puso de manifiesto la importancia de llevar una vida sana, aunque pueda sonar a tópico hay que prestar una especial atención pues los expertos ya están hablando en términos de epidemia. Los últimos estudios declaran cifras escalofriantes respecto al incremento de esta en enfermedad, más de un 8% en las sociedades occidentales. Tal y como lo exponen los expertos la diabetes es un síntoma característico de los excesos en las sociedades occidentales: un mal que nos afecta a todos.

An ardent admirer of global culture, he often incorporates specific stylistic references to one culture or another into his work, creating complex, hybrid forms. Throughout his career, he was discouraged by many in the art world from describing those interests in his work. But he persevered, and the stunning results of this career-long odyssey are a provocative and enduring body of sculpture that illustrates the fluid, dynamic character of global culture. De Britse kunstenaar Slinkachu doet in Urban Art. Hij werd wereldberoemd met zijn project Little People. Zijn laatste project heet ‘Inner City Snail’. Het concept is even simpel als briljant. Hij beschildert slakken waardoor het traag wandelende kunstwerkjes worden en laat ze los in parken in Londen. Een mini-mini-evenementje waar je even heel gelukkig van wordt. Graffiti artist Steven Powers aka Espo in conjunction with the city of brotherly love Philadelphia, has launched a series of new works part of the artist series love letter street mural exhibit. “Love Letter is literally a love letter painted on the walls facing the Market elevated train. 40 local and international artists will paint the walls in august and the letter will be on view for one and all starting as early as Labor Day. The project will encompass 50 painted walls between 63rd and 45th street on Market Street, a documentary film with scripted elements, a sign school and shop that will provide training for area youth and free signage for businesses on the market street corridor, and 2 books documenting the project. One of the books will be a small paperback that will be distributed to area businesses free of charge, for them to sell to visitors. The other book will be a larger hardcover book that will document not only the artwork, but the neighborhood and the inspirations of the Love Letter Project.”

In the last 15 years, Puerto Rico has seen the development of urban and graffiti art (called “grafiteo” on the island), through a group of young and talented artists including ISMO, Sofia Maldonado, Rimex, Son, Sez and Edgardo Larregui, Melt Star (Melanie González), Ogral (Luis A. Mercado),  Mor (Manuel Otero), Esco (Gerardo Cloquell), Jeko (Pedro Quiñones), EXOR (Diego Romero Martínez), and MERO (Joel Romero Martínez).

MERO/Joel Romero Martínez (San Juan, 1981) completed his high school degree at the Central School of Visual Arts (2001) and his B.A. in Arts at the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras (2005). According to Manuel Álvarez Lezama (Art Premium) in his article “Mero: Cronista de sus tiempos” [MERO: A Chronicler of His Time], MERO uses his formal training to create artwork that conveys, with more strength and originality, his socio-political concerns by means of an art form that can reach the people more directly and effectively: an intelligent graffiti art that, while smart, is not elitist. He produces a “poetic and dramatic graffiti” that is also highly accessible.

In the last few years MERO has taken “his complex/interesting/provocative imaginary to canvas” and has participated in various collective exhibitions in the leading art galleries of San Juan; thus, says Álvarez Lezama, “moving from being another graffiti artist to becoming a phenomenal chronicler of some of the realities” that define Puerto Rican life.

The following is a video-portfolio of MERO’s work from 2002 to 2009. It includes drawings, paintings, prints, graffiti, murals, mixed media, and in situ interventions, among others. It includes original music by MERO.
