This evening, I picked 20kg of beautiful, fresh green apples from a tree not cared for by its owners that overhangs a suburban laneway in 30mins.

Lets say $4kg to be conservative (organic would be way more), so $80 of apples.

It’s also hard work using a picker and carrying all those apples around. So that’s 30mins of exercise – call it $20.

And my 2 year old boy comes along to collect the rotten apples for composting. He has a ball, and so life becomes easier for me and my beloved, Juliette. Call it $20, but I could justify a much higher value.

So $120 of value in 30mins, tax free. So pre-tax dollars that might be say, $180-$200 depending on your tax bracket and creative accounting skills. So all of a sudden we are talking the equivalent of as much as $400hr.

Not a bad gig if you can get it.
