Q: I am a 37 year old woman who is 5’4, “180 lbs. My cholesterol is 225. I was told that I have puss in my urine. The sonogram also shows that my left kidney is swollen. I have no pain urinating but i do have some burning sensation in my lower back. In addition, at times there is a mild discomfort (cramping or tingling) in my lower back. My urologist is clueless as to why my kidneys are infected. He is treating me with antibiotics. On my second week of taking them, my kidney is still swollen and puss is still in my urine. Other than that I have no other symptoms. I am wondering maybe he overlooked something. I am also thinking of seeing another urologist for a second opinion. So far the only thing he has done was the sonogram, test my urine and give antibiotics. He now thinks my urine may be backing up into my kidneys and wants to send me as an outpatient to get a catheter done. If this is the case, why is it happening and what will they do to stop the urine from backing up to the kidneys? I am also trying to follow a better diet and I am an active person. I don’t smoke, drink, do drugs or have multiple partners.
