The announcement of the Operating System Google Chrome OS will not fail to arouse much comments and I will not be outdone is above all about, avoiding foolish or irrelevant comments, the usual “Gossips & Buzz” that I leave to the Yahoos of the Web!

As I write this post, I have consulted no comments that are already published on the Web, maintaining my reflexions off any outside influence, keeping my first “hot” reactions while keeping a cool head because this is my climenole’s style.

In the announcement post of Google Chrome OS, I wrote:

«According to the official Google blog this (the new OS) is justified by the fact that existing Operating Systems, designed at a time when the Web did not exist, the Google Chrome OS is therefore presented as a natural extension of the Google Chrome browser for Web users … »

- An Operating System is, by definition, the software giving users and applications access to the resources of his computer. This definition should be clarified: access to its computer resources (hardware) and Internet resources.

The argument, or rather the insinuation about systems designed before the Internet (and the Web, which is not the same thing) is, in my opinion, a fallacious argument primarily with respect to Operating Systems and browsers then.

Let’s take a closer look:

Operating Systems

- First before Internet is widespread, networks existed, from which the Internet was built. The fact that Operating Systems was designed before the advent of the Internet does not necessarily mean it is not adapted to this other network: Internet. Things are not nearly as dopey.

- Secondly the UNIX Operating System designed from the outset as a multi-user systems and networks of Unix machines have appeared before the arrival and spread of the Internet. From the outset, the design of UNIX made it open to new possibilities of interconnections which differs fundamentally from the systems developed by Microsoft.

- Windows was initially a DOS GUI, single-user system designed for PCs before the arrival of the Internet and with the NT systems, a new generation of Operating Systems for PCs and architecture accounts access (administrators and users) inadequate and primitive compared to the hierarchical architecture of the accounts and access rights of UNIX developed well in advance and still valid for local networks or wide, including the Internet.

- In Windows, the local non-administrators users are generally unable to use local full resources and have to rely on an administrator account, then using this administrator account to access the Internet, and putting the whole system in an awkward position and vulnerability.

Advanced users of Windows XP will no doubt remember all the contortions needed to use local and external resources à la MS while maintaining a reduced vulnerability on the Internet (with for example DropMyRights and by avoiding interNUT Expl’Horror).

Only the latest versions of Windows, Vista and Seven were similar to the hierarchical concept of UNIX, but without the flexibility, precision and elegance of UNIX and its clone LINUX.

- In UNIX systems the hierarchical architecture of the accounts for a multi-user system from the outset is perfectly suited for its extension to a situation in which the access rights of system administrators are reserved for local administrative tasks and access rights for users, all at once, use local resources effectively and as well as the external ones without compromising the local system.

The original features of UNIX allow its natural (and safe) extension to the Internet and Web resources with a good browser to complete the best combination.

Needs the Google Chrome browser for that? Mozilla Firefox and Opera aren’t – at least – as good as the Google Web Browser?

Note that the fact that Google Chrome OS is built around a Linux kernel implicitly acknowledges what I have outlined here …

Browsers

With the advent and spread of the Internet, the Web browser software has become the most important application software of all Operating System. The software providing the access to non-local, is est, the web (1, 2, or semantic, as you like).

The insinuation from Google about Operating Systems designed before the Internet is irrelevant since it’s not the OS that is crucial here but the browser whatever the Operating System in use …

The determining software

The determining software for the access to local resources is the Operating System, the determining software for the access to non-local resources, essentially the Web, is the browser. Admittedly, the combination OS / Browser and their modes of interaction and integration is also a factor that it must be taken into account.

What’s an Operating System by definition and the hopeless case of Windows Vista

In this comment I would not ignore the case of the recent OS from Microsoft that seems to be contrary to both the definition of an Operating System and the art of creating a software architecture-oriented users and their applications. Windows Vista is a bloated and heavy, which requires material resources to high-performance but mainly to run itself and not to put these additional resources available to users and applications.

In short: more resources are required but for “the big cow Vista” and not for you!

OS Performances and the relevance for a new OS

«Google Chrome is Open Source OS and presented as an Operating System that will light the first netBook and will be available to consumers in the second half of 2010. Google will work with the Open Source community and are already in talks with partners.»

«The official Google blog emphasizes lightness, minimal interface, security and speed of what Google Chrome OS

“We’re designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds.”

Google Chrome OS will be available for the x86 PC as long as the Netbook and architecture of the Operating System consisting of a new system running Windows on Linux.»

Very good but still? Because if performance is not really exceptional, I do not see any relevance for a new OS…

Hypothetical performances and price to pay for them

The performances are all alleged non-standard, can we not assume that it will pay in some way? That is what I suspect with the following information:

« For developers, the Web will be the development platform so that applications will be portable to all Operating Systems: Windows, MAC, Linux and Google Chrome for OS and any browser meeting the “standards”…»

- This means that the new Google OS will be primarily focused on access to external resources that is to say in good English in a Cloud Computing system on which I don’t agree, at least for my main applications and datas.

Does Google Chrome OS is a Cloud Computing OS not saying his name?

«According to Google, users no longer want to wait until their computer starts and the browser is launched as they want, for example, instant access to their mail … They want access to their data without having to worry about saving them refuse to spend hours configuring their computers or be concerned with updates … »

In other words : that out-performance standards will be deemed made by the following maneuver:

- Local resources for processing information including the Center of Gravity, now the personal computer, his CPU(s) and other local resources for processing and storage of information will be moved to another Gravity Center of Information Processing: the remote servers on which minimals PCs are connected.

- The bulk of the processing would be (or will be …) on these servers (Google or otherwise) including the data retention, and their backup, and, it can be assumed, as well as the configuration settings…

- Which is to say, and I weigh my words, it will be the return of the old kind of computing: the “Dummy Terminals“ (Minimal PCs: Netbooks are an example of these new dummies) connected to one or more mainframes, servers of Google and other …

The only difference between the old dummy terminals and cloud computing à la Google residing in innovations of these new dummies: the Netbook widgets and even grinding.

(And I’m not even discussing the problem of the PCs manufacturers offering their PCs with a mandatory pre-installed Windows…)

«The official Google blog acknowledges that much work remains to be done and they need help from the community of open source to achieve their visions of what should be the experience on the Internet.»

But certainly the work they do not seem to suspect in this announcement is they will have to convince users to hand over the keys of the house to Sergey Mikhailovich Brin and Larry Page. For me, the day that convince me to abandon my applications and my data to anyone, even a Make No Evil, is not to be expected because we remember that:

«… the misfortune that who wants to make the angel made the beast.» Blaise Pascal

All of the users of the windows Vista will be very happy to know about that how to make windows vist

All of the users of the windows Vista will be very happy to know about that how to make windows vista boot faster. Is it possible to boot up fast. Yes, I am sure to make Windows Vista Boot process faster. Please try to follow the tips given below to make your vista operating system boot faster.

There are plenty of factors that could make your PC startup grind to a halt, so there are plenty of tweaks to try to get your PC starting up in a flash. It’s all very well listing these tweaks, but do they work?

We have a PC at home packed with so much stuff that it takes an age to load Windows Vista, so we decided to test the tweaks to find out how much time we could save.

First things first – Start-up slow-down

Original startup time – 6:26.54

We knew that our PC was slow to start, but when we timed it and saw that it took nearly six and a half minutes from the moment we pressed the on button to when the computer had loaded all the start-up programs and was actually usable, we knew that something needed to be done.

Our first port of call was to check out the Startup folder by going to Start > All Programs > Startup. The Startup folder can be a really useful feature of Windows Vista because you can place shortcuts to your favourite programs in there and they will load up when Windows Vista starts.

CUT IT OUT: You can speed up the boot time by removing items from your Startup folder.

The problem is, if there are too many programs in there, it will slow down your computer’s startup as your computer loads them all. Deleting the shortcuts from this folder (don’t worry, it won’t delete the actual programs) will certainly help speed things up. Not all programs that load themselves when your computer starts appear in the Startup folder, however.

Take a look at the Notification area of your Taskbar, which is on the bottom right-hand corner of your desktop next to the clock, to see if there are a lot of icons there. Most of these icons are for programs that run in background, and with all of them starting up when you turn on your computer, it will definitely slow it down.

Many of these programs can be safely prevented from starting up automatically, so you only load them as and when you need to. Most of the time you can right-click the icon and either open the program or go straight to the program’s options or preferences, and from there clear a box that says something like ‘Run this program when Windows starts’.

If there are any programs that you don’t need any more at all, go ahead and uninstall them to get an extra speed boost.

Result: After deleting four shortcuts from the Startup folder and cutting down the Notification icons from a massive 19 down to seven, we saw a huge improvement in the computer’s start-up speed.

New startup time – 3:47.31

Going in deeper – Use Msconfig to disable more programs at startup

Not all programs give the option to prevent them from automatically starting up. To disable more stubborn programs, we went in to the powerful Msconfig utility. Before using this you should create a Restore point so you can revert your PC back to its former settings should anything go wrong.

Click Start and type msconfig. Click the Startup tab and you’ll see a list of programs, the name of the manufacturer of each program, and the program’s path (where it’s kept on your hard drive). Using all this information you can tell whether these programs are essential to making your PC run properly.

MS CONFIG: Click the Startup tab and then in the Startup Item column clear the boxes of the programs you wish to prevent from loading on startup.

As a general rule, don’t disable any programs from Microsoft because these are usually vital for Windows Vista. Any drivers or programs related to your graphics card and other hardware should be left alone as well. Once you’ve disabled the programs you want, exit Msconfig and restart your PC.

If there are any problems or error messages, make a note and go back into Msconfig and check the boxes of the problem programs. You can also stop some services running on startup. Only stop them if you’re sure that you don’t need them. Again, no Microsoft services should be turned off.

If there are any services you want to stop, it’s a good idea to search for the service on the internet to make sure it’s okay to do so. Once again, if there are any problems, open Msconfig again and restart the services.

Result: We found a number of programs that didn’t need to load on startup, so we unchecked them. We also found a couple of services that ran on startup that were used by old programs we had long ago uninstalled, so we safely stopped them.

New startup time – 2:36.81

Dual operating systems – Shave seconds off dual-boot options

If you have more than one operating system installed on your PC – for example, you may have both Windows Vista and Windows 7 beta installed – your computer displays a menu asking you which operating system you want to load. If you don’t select an operating system within 30 seconds, it automatically loads your default operating system.

You can cut the amount of time your computer waits for your input before loading Windows Vista by going back to Msconfig and selecting the Boot tab. Where it says Timeout, change the number to a lower setting, but give yourself enough time to actually make your choice. If you only have Windows Vista installed on your machine, you don’t need to complete this step.

New startup time – 2:35.18

Fix notifications

Windows Vista is great at letting you know if there’s a problem with your computer. Your antivirus program should also alert you to potential problems, such as when a virus has been found or if you haven’t downloaded and installed the latest update for the software.

These notifications usually pop up from the notification area when you boot into Windows Vista, and on a computer that’s already struggling, the appearance of such messages could slow down the start-up time even further. You can save a few seconds by making sure that you always read all the notifications and subsequently follow their recommendations to fix the problems.

Not only will this stop the notification from popping up on your screen again, but it will probably also help your computer in other ways.

Change the boot order – Tweak the BIOS to cut start-up time

When your PC is turned on it searches all its drives, such as hard drives and DVD drives, for boot files to load Windows Vista. These files are always on your primary hard drive, but your PC may search your DVD drives, floppy drives and other places before searching the correct hard drive, and this can add seconds to your startup.

To save time you can change the order that your computer searches your drives, making sure that the drive that Windows Vista is installed on is searched first. To do this you need to enter your computer’s BIOS, which is accessed when your computer is first turned on, before Windows Vista starts.

The method of accessing the BIOS varies from computer to computer – you need to either hold down Delete or sometimes F12. Once inside the BIOS you should see a menu option called something like Advanced BIOS Features. If you have more than one hard drive in your computer, select Hard Disk Boot Priority and select the hard drive that holds Windows Vista.

BOOT ORDER: You need to select Advanced BIOS features to access the Hard Disk Boot Priority.

There should also be a menu option called something like Boot Priority. Select this, and then make sure that Hard Disk is first, followed by CDROM. There may also be an option called Quick Power On Self Test. Select this and make sure it’s enabled.

When your PC is first turned on, it runs a number of tests to make sure everything is running properly. Some of these tests are more important than others, and by enabling Quick Power On Self Test your PC skips some of the less important tests, which speeds up your boot times.

HARD DISK FIRST: Ensure your HDD is selected as the primary boot device for a quicker start-up.

Finally, there may be an option called Boot Up Floppy Seek. If you have that option in the BIOS, select it and then disable it. This is a test your computer runs on your floppy disk drive. These are an old form of media, and your PC either won’t have one, or you’ll hardly ever use it, so testing it is unnecessary.

Once you’ve finished in the BIOS choose Save and then Exit. Your computer’s BIOS might be slightly different, so don’t panic if the menus are laid out or named differently to how we’ve said. If in doubt, check the BIOS manual that came with your computer, or on the internet.

SAVE AND EXIT: Once you have selected the right settings, Save and Exit to confirm your choices.

Result: Changing settings in the BIOS made the computer load up Windows Vista quicker than before.

New startup time – 2:25.41

Check for viruses and other malware

Viruses and spyware can drastically affect how long it takes your PC to load. Run an antivirus scan regularly, and use anti-spyware tools such as Windows Defender to keep your PC nice and clean.

Get rid of extra users

Having different user accounts, or a password-protected user account, is a great way of securing Windows Vista. However, if you’re the only person who uses your computer, or you don’t mind other people using your account, then you can save time by only having one account with no password.

This will speed up the time it takes to load Windows Vista because it won’t have to load the User Account log-in screen and wait for you to enter a password. You should bear in mind the security risks of doing this, however.

New startup time – 2:18.58

Defrag your hard drive – Speed up the way your hard disk works

By defragmenting your hard drive, your PC can find and access files faster, which will lead to your computer running and loading faster. To run the Disk Defragmenter program type defrag into Start Search.

Just posting to let you all know of a site at www.EulerAssembler.net – it’s about Common Intermediate Language (CIL) also known as Microsoft Intermediate Language (MSIL).

That’s the “assembler” language of the .NET Framework. A must read for all .NET programmers and anybody who wants to improve their programming skills in general. Still under construction though, solutions to Project Euler Problems are being posted and other information is uploaded slowly now.

I have been thinking about user accounts a bunch lately. I used to like filling those things out. Fi

I have been thinking about user accounts a bunch lately. I used to like filling those things out. Find your edges. Ha. That was about the same point people started to seem stupid for asking what kinda music you liked in hopes of finding a kindred soul. Now only some yahoo without internet in the middle of nowhere might ask that and think they would get actionable data…

I digress. Anyhow user accounts. Yeah I think they should be stripped down to the bone. Look at what facebook did, they de-centralized the user account. It’s not why you come to the site, it’s your ability to come to the site, and for tricky marketers it’s your privilege to come to their site.

On the site I’m working on now, I basiclly made it so that your only required info is, your neighborhood. You can fill all the other stuff in as you want but theres not much there; one picture, gender, hometown, about, and 3 skills (a’la okcupid but for anarchists). This limited amount of data puts the focus on what I’ll call valve-content. Value content would be shared assets like blogs, photos, mp3s, event calenders, and videos. This make the site less about the individual and more about the sum of it’s parts. It’s less a social network and more a meeting of ideas. People can still find other like minded folk but it would be
on a more action based vector rather than a cardboard cutout reflection of media preferences.

With a site like facebook it sorta requires you to know the person in the real world to find them. What was so exciting about the internet for me a long time ago was the ability to find people of a like mind based on where we found eachother together. When Myspace came along and you had to be on a social network it ruined the whole shared space thing.

Think about it if you find yourself in a room with 4 or 5 other people you will likely interface with them in a fun and productive or at the least interesting way that you can understand easily. If you find yourself in a field with 4 or 5 thousand people, it seems far less likely that you will find out anything about any of them or about the group in way other than the most abstract.

If I may be so bold, Web 3.0 (web 4.0 god I can’t keep up what a stupid term) may equal micro networks based in a real space. That would be the mash ups of Web 2.0 but instead of two site, we are talking about two spaces. The real and the virtual working to enhance each other.

The idea would be to make it not even kinda weird to meet people from the internet because it’s your internet, it’’s your community. Facebook isn’t a community, it’s a farm. Really, your account is a crop, it’s information and behaviors to be harvested and sold on the open market.

Anyhow I”m really excited about how this site is coming along it’s really the only thing that been keeping me going. Anyhow I’ll be sure to post a link here when it goes live. It may not be totally apparent, these ideas I’ve listed here, but they are subtle ideas and I’m limited by my currently shoddy programming skills but I’m just getting started.

Banyak pemakai komputer (terutama pemula) punya kebiasaan suka mengganti Tampilan “Windows XP”

Banyak pemakai komputer (terutama pemula) punya kebiasaan suka mengganti Tampilan “Windows XP”.
