Another useful freeware tool I’ve just come across is Fiddler 2,

This is a smart little Web Debugging Proxy utility which logs all HTTP(S) traffic between your computer and the Internet. Fiddler allows you to inspect all HTTP(S) traffic, set breakpoints, and “fiddle” with incoming or outgoing data. Fiddler includes a powerful event-based scripting subsystem, and can be extended using any .NET language.

Fiddler is freeware and can debug traffic from virtually any application, including Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and thousands more.

Gundaroo 2009 - B&S Ute

Hall is a small community situated to the north-west of Canberra.  Each year a group of enthusiastic locals hold the Hall Ute Show and Family Day.  The event raises money for Camp Quality and attracts vehicles from Canberra and the surrounding area.

This ute was an entry in the 2009 competition.  The photograph was taken on a property near Gundaroo.

Duplicate & Same Files Searcher (Duplicate Searcher) is an application for searching duplicate files (clones) and NTFS hard links to the same file. It searches duplicate file contents regardless of file name (true byte-to-byte comparison is used).

This application allows to delete duplicate files or to move them to another location, but to replace duplicates with NTFS hard links as well (unique!).

Merriam-Webster defines a rogue as…

1) a vagrant, tramp  2) a dishonest or worthless person: scoundrel  3) a mischievous person: scamp

Greg Street, also known as Ghostcrawler and the Lead Systems Designer for World of Warcraft, said this in a recent Q&A session:

Rogues were once the best dps class hands-down, and a lot of the other classes were just there to buff rogues. Rogues were supposed to be selfish and not bring many buffs or utility of their own. We’re not really happy with that design any longer, and have pushed rogues to be a little more normal — great damage in the right conditions, but also some good utility and synergy as well.

“…have pushed rogues to be a little more normal”?  What!?!  For me, I don’t want to be a little more normal. I want rogues to be the scoundrels sitting over in the corner, smoking cigars and sharing a flask before the raid, only taking interest when it’s time to kill stuff. I don’t want to be able to buff, I don’t want to be helpful, and I don’t want to be responsible for other people. I want my raid usefulness to be the ability to burn down an enemy faster than anyone else in the game, up close and personal. Other than that, I WANT to be a mischievous, dishonest, and worthless toon. I want to be selfish and I want the most DPS of any class. THAT’S my utility. THAT’S my synergy. THAT’S my purpose.

Rogues should be sitting round snickering at the warriors nervously checking their armor and shield straps before throwing themselves between their friends and the enemy. They’re the ones scoffing at the paladins in their prayer circles. They’re checking out the butts of the cute girl priests blessing those who are about to die, and giving directions to their room at the local inn to the sexy warlock they just met. They don’t CARE. They don’t want to care. That’s their strength. Rogues understand that those who live by the sword die by the sword, and death is just the beginning of another great adventure. They live for the moment and just kill until they can’t kill anymore.

It doesn’t make them bad. It’s just that sometimes there are certain people in the world you would rather have for you than against you. They have the tools and constitution to get the job done right no matter the cost. And they aren’t bound by the black and white of good and bad. They walk the grey path knowing that sometimes the ends DO justify whatever means are necessary to get there. Maybe this is the ultimate rogue…

What’s going to happen when everybody is finally balanced? Everyone can deal great damage? Alright!! Everyone can bring group wide utility to the raid? Yes!! No one has an advantage over anyone in PvP anymore? Finally!! But as Syndrome says in The Incredibles…

I know this oversimplifies the problem, and I understand the difficulties that the programmers and designers must face trying to balance the classes. I don’t envy them their job at all. And despite this post (and other things I imagine I will say), I appreciate Blizzard and everything they do for us. What an amazing game they have developed for us to play and enjoy and critique.

I also understand that a lot of the changes that are being made to World of Warcraft make a ton of sense economically for Blizzard and it’s shareholders. Faster leveling; making various classes “a little more normal” for wider appeal; earlier access to mounts; very little classic attunement for epic quest lines and dungeon entry; changing various skills to require less reagents (cooking, poison creation, etc.); all these changes should get more people “hooked” faster.

But it also eliminates the need to be a better player  earlier on, if ever. This has a lot of folks at level 80 still not really knowing how to play their class. Which is, of course, irritating to the rest of us who had to learn how to balance the various choices we had to make as young players. (Wood and Flint? Vanish Powder? Poison ingredients? Man, I’ve got to start saving for that awesome brown sack!) And yes, I raided uphill both ways in a firestorm, with sandwiches for shoes which we ate during the bio break before the last boss.

My suggestions would be these… Leave us all with our own unique characteristics. Especially for a “pure” class. Make it so a class truly feels like home. Let our weaknesses be as evident as our strengths, and make it so that smart players can take advantage of the one to make up for the other. Balance risk vs. reward in fights. If I’m hugging ogre ass in leather armor out of necessity in Gruul’s Lair, I expect to be rewarded by higher DPS on a single target, than a mage, warlock, hunter, or boomkin firing from the safety of distance, or someone hitting him in plate. Plus the AoE damage they get on trash? C’mon! But… you guys have Fan of Knives now!

That’s UTILITY!! That’s normalcy!!  That’s homogenization. Who needs those fireworks? I don’t give a dman about AoE, so long as when I am at the top of my game and gear, I can expect to inch out any other class on DPS. If those other classes want to top DPS charts, make them start a rogue.

I’m sure you’ve all seen these markings on either sidewalks or raodways and wondered WTF are these?  They are often seen in different colors but the more prominant ones are; Red, Yellow, Blue, Green and often inside a marked area in White.  The paint itself is not permanent and will eventually fade.

Each color identifies a utility; Electrical, Gas, Potable Water, Sewer/Storm line respectively.  Most people who mark are minimalists and some get real technical using industry abbrev. that identify material, size and even depth.  Pretty straight forward stuff for excavation work.  So that “Joe Dirt” doesn’t sever your power, water and poop water.   Leaving you a caveman/woman/family for several hours eating cold Ligo sardines and rice, which is pretty damn tasty.

The industry mantra is “Call before you dig” meaning all proposed excavations must be called into USA North, a third party that sends out notifications to agencies and operators of a proposed project.  Each operator/agency is required to locate and mark their particular utility within the proposed work area marked in white with the words USA.  Mark’em if you gottem! 

Obviously roadways and sidewalks can get pretty colorful if it’s a large project, which can really piss off some of the residents in my municipality.  Often times they don’t care to know what they are for, despite every attempt to explain their importance, so their services won’t be affected by “Joe Dirt” wanking on the heavy equipment joystick.  “I don’t like how it looks”, “can’t you use a more subdued color that matches the roadway?”, how long will I have to look at it?”, I have visitors coming from out of town and this is not acceptable”, “can’t you write smaller?” “I’m calling the police as I consider this graffiti, what is your name?”…Donald “effen” Duck ma’m. O_o

Graffiti you say!? I may just have to keep practicing  my handstyle.  Montana paint, anyone?

I wrote a utility that can grep through flat files and look for user-defined regular expressions. I included the ability to search the files and adjacent folders recursively, as well as the capability to count the number of lines (per file) that results were found on. There are a few more configurable options to control the search (disable/enable cases sensitivity or search file names). Lines that contain the regular expression are returned right to the results window!

Il prossimo venerdì  27 novembre 2009 alle ore 14.30 presso l’Aula Magna, Facoltà di Ingegneria di Modena si terrà il convegno finale per presentare i risultati delle attività relative ad un progetto condotto da Democenter Sipe e Centuria RIT che nel corso del 2009 hanno realizzato, in collaborazione con affermate società che operano  nel campo della Proprietà Intellettuale e industriale, il progetto “Valorizzazione delle competenze per la gestione degli asset intangibili delle imprese”.

Il progetto si pone l’obiettivo di sensibilizzare e diffondere la conoscenza dei beni immateriali e l’importanza della loro corretta individuazione e gestione, al fine di rafforzare il sistema delle competenze e la capacità competitiva delle aziende dei rispettivi territori di riferimento. Windows 7 has a more stable performance than windows vista. Seven is also more responsive and more efficient in the use of battery. Although no official statement regarding the minimum specifications to be able to use windows 7, but Steve Sinofsky (Steve Ballmer ass yes ..) states windows 7 only requires a minimum of 1Gb memory allocation alone.

• cheese - Programma molto pratico e funzionale per gestire la WebCam.

• camorama - Gia incluso nei repository, molto completo per gestire la WebCam. Ricordate che linux installa automaticamente la WebCam appena la collegate ma non tutte sono compatibili. Quindi prima di acquistarne una informatevi nel forum di ubuntu su quali acquistare, altrimenti se prendete le marche cinesi per risparmiare poi vi tocca immattire per installarla.

A couple of months ago when we the family visited Hong Kong, I was actually looking for a Leica IIIc hoping I could find a bargain. It turns out the price ranges there for Analog cameras is in the upper ranges in what you would find in Ebay. Feeling down while we were at the airport, I decided to look around the duty free area and I saw that they already have the Third Gen Ipod touch.

I have been wanting an Ipod Touch since 2007. It’s all because of the Lightsaber App! Kidding aside, I also wanted a mobile browser and a new MP3 player ever since my 3 year old creative Zen MP3 got lost. With that in mind, I just went ahead and purchased it.

The Apps are actually what surprised me with this little gadget!
When apple said there is an app for that, there truly was an app for that especially for photography even if you iPod doesn’t have the camera like the iPhone

Flickr

For those who addicted to flickr, there are a gamut of flickr related apps but still my favourite is flickr’s very own app!

It’s easy to use, navigate, and put comments and whatnot. If you just want to scratch that itch and check out what’s happening on your friend’s flickr or look for inspiration while in the middle of a shoot, the flickr will be great for you.

Available for free at the app store.

Weather

Knowing the weather conditions is a must when you plan to do a photowalk or travel to a different place and take photos. Perhaps the best weather App I found in the App store is Accuweather


It is really packed with awesome features from 15 day forecasts, to Hourly Weather Reports, and even wind speed. You can have it shown in English or Metric system. There’s also a radar showing cloud activity in your area!

Accu Weather is free in the Appstore.

DOF and Hyperfocal distance calculators

The Bokeh app Measures your Hyperfocal Distance and it also has a DOF calculator which I think is great for Landscape photographers. It’s very easy to use, you just move the sliders to your desired setting.

Field Tools Hyperfocal distance plus the near and far focus. The best part for this one is that it has different settings for different formats!

From 4×5, 6×6, and even digital camera systems like Olympus M4/3 system, Canon APS-C, and Nikon DX!
It also works by just moving the sliders.

Exposure Apps

There are also different apps there that will help you calculate proper exposure.

Expositor is one such app

It’s really easy to use as you will just slide the ISO and F-Stop in the middle to correspond to the conditions stated on the left and it will give you a shutter speed on the right.

The best part of this app is the exposure compensation in the bottom which is helpful if you are taking a photo with the light behind the subject. Although I guess this app will work best if you get the Pro version. I don’t have a credit card so I just got the lite version.

Expositor costs $1.99 in the app store. Lite version is for free.

Another great app is Exposure Calc

In exposure calc, you choose your ISO and Lighting conditions. Then, you must move the slider at the bottom to the corresponding F-stop you want and it will tell you a shutterspeed.
The F-stop is from f/.7 to f/90! It also has a shutter priority mode if you use that mode. I was also using the Lite version of this app so most of the Lighting conditions are locked.

Exposure Calc costs $.99 on the app store and the Lite version is for free.

If you really just want to save trees and isn’t a bit lazy when it comes to calculating, just put the ultimate exposure computer made by Fred Parker in your IPOD or Ipod touch.


It’s inexpensive but a bit slow to use. At least everything is there already.

There you have it, these are just some of the tools and things I use with my Ipod to improve or at least help my photography. Heck, even my videos contain photography related stuff and if you want to learn more, check out itunes U since there are lectures there about photography related stuff from different universities.
