One of the best adaptations of the Saratchandra Chatterjee novel, Anurag Kashyap takes devdas and sets it in modern day punjab. 

With an outstanding performance by Abhay Deol , Mahi Gill and Kalki as Devdas, Paro and Chanda respectively but the scene stealer is Dibyendu Bhattacharya as Chunni the pimp outstanding . The music by Amit Trivedi is brilliant and the soundtrack of the year. Visually as well the movie is great just love this new age of indian cinema. Anurag Kashyap has become one of my favourite directors after this one and then saw his other movies Black Friday, No Smoking and Gulaal all brilliant. Waiting to watch his first movie Paanch though hopefully someone will release it.

Verdict: buy the dvd and watch it

Vishal Bharadwaj is back after the brilliant Omkara, with a heist flick. A brilliantly directed movie with awesome characters that are brought to life by some outstanding performances.

Shahid Kapoor pulls off playing both the brothers and deserves every award there is for that performance, Priyanka Chopra is brilliant in her role, the scene stealers though are Amol Gupte as Bhope Bhau is just outstanding , Chandan Roy Sanyal as Mikhail is another actor to watch out for, both these characters are part of one of the best scenes in the movie the showdown of Mikhail and Bhope Bhau is just brilliantly performed.

Another character worth mentioning is Tashi played by Tenzing Nima, the scene where he and his goons get to bhope bhaus home is hilarious. Hrishikesh Joshi as Lele is also outstanding the interrogation scene with lele and guddu is awesome. The music of the movie is also outstanding.

a little late posting this but friday was busy getting graphics done for a couple people racing in the Lake Elsinore Grand Prix. Our buddies over at IMG Motorsports were racing a couple custom UTV rhinos and we sponsored one of the racers so we did a last minute wrap. My last post mentioned that I was running for Town Council. I just thought I should post an update as to the election results for our small town. There were four people running for two seats on the Town Council. I lost by three votes. The new Town Council members are “Whitey” and “Punchy.” And the re-elected Mayor is “Wally.”

I am actually very wary of watching “Coming-of-age” stories because it’s the latest fad of Bollywood, so many people are trying to jump on to the bandwagon in order to prove that they can do contemporary cinema.

The story telling is the most imp part of such movies, and hinges more on characters and how they develop over time, rather than some radical events in the movie. This requires a good hold over tapping into strong emotions in a very subtle manner so that it has the quintessential feel of contemporary indian cinema.

Broadly speaking, coming -of-age stories stick to a 3-act play kind of format. The first act defines the character and what he wants or does not want from life/people/ or himself, the second act brings a conflict to his life, which sort of acts like a catalyst to change his views about things, or helps him get a focus in his life or steers him in a definite direction. The third is obviously the climax, which basically shows that the protagonist finally achieves his goals and how he develops/changes in the whole story. The function of the side characters is to kind of form the catalyst that help the main character steer towards his final destination.

Wake up sid! is a very fresh take in this genre. The two main things that make it stand out are:
1) It’s as realistic as it gets!! Director Ayan Mukherji, has captured real people in all his characters. Be it the slacker/aimless Sid who lives a very laid back kind of life, does not plan things beyond a day, does not want anything but just have fun and party hard with his friends and lives each day as it comes. Very true for a person who does not need to earn money on his own, as his rich dad can always provide for him. And has never been pressurized by his parents or circumstances to make his own living and pay his credit card bills. Even Konkona’s character of Aisha Banerji has been very well written. She is a bong gal from Kolkatta, very intellectual, and has a passion for writing. Comes down to Mumbai to earn her own money and be independent, which has been her dream forever. Meets Sid on the first time, and a friendship kicks off immediately in between them. I am sure many people can relate with this situation.

2) Secondly, an intrinsic character about this movie is that the conflict in Sid’s life, does not necessarily change from a nothing to a Superman, or someone who stuns everyone with his achievements out of the blue. The transformation is very believable and also very logical. In the end, he ends up turning his passion for photography into his profession, which is very likely, as he is not very pressed for money or lack of opportunities. He wants to work, but does not want to choose something very boring just for money !! This is why, I would like to stress again, that it’s as realistic as it gets.

Overall, i would say it’s a good movie to watch once a year at least to just shake us out of our lethargy, to find a goal or to just wake up!!

Incidents/Injuries: Bad Boy Enterprises has received 32 reports of unexpected acceleration, including reports of injuries such as a fractured toe, rotator cuff injury and sore muscles.

Description: This recall involves Bad Boy Buggy Standard model off-road utility vehicles. The Bad Boy Buggy Standard model has one row seat that allows two persons (the driver and passenger) to sit side-by-side while the vehicle is operated. The Standard has an open air design (no doors or windows), but has a roof. The Bad Boy Buggy Standard models come in Realtree camouflage pattern, Hardwoods camouflage pattern, hunter green, red and black colors. The affected models have serial numbers between 85004828 and 95010404. The serial number is located on a sticker in a cubby on the driver’s side.

Sold by: Authorized dealers nationwide from June 2007 through July 2009 for about $10,000.
