<title><![CDATA[Y-DNA - My Dad's DNA Migration Story]]></title>

<p>Through DNA testing, I learned that my Y-DNA haplogroup is <strong>E1b1a/M2</strong> (formerly known as E3a).</p>
<p><strong>Y-DNA, </strong>or Y-chromosome DNA,<strong> </strong>is patrilineal (male-lineage).</p>
<p>After I took my mtDNA test, I followed up with a Y-DNA test.  Once again, the process was as follows: I used the same DNA company as with my mtDNA test. There are numerous ones to choose from (Family Tree DNA, National Genographic, etc.). I paid for the test and received a package that contained testing materials. I swabbed the inside of my mouth and returned the testing materials to the DNA company.</p>
<p>Weeks later, I had my results.</p>

<p><strong>My haplogroup E1b1a/M2</strong> is approximately <em>30,000</em> years old, and descends from the paternal father clade <strong>PN2/P2</strong>. PN2/E is an African clade and approx 35k years old. PN2 is also the father of <strong>M35</strong> (approx. <em>22,000</em> years old) and <strong>M78</strong> (approx. <em>17,000</em> years old) (Source: Cruciani et al., p. 1018, 2004). <strong>E1b1b</strong> (formerly <strong>E3b)</strong> falls from the branch of M35, which The <strong>Jewish Virtual Library</strong> attributes as a major founding lineage among Ashkenazi Jews.</p>
<p>In a study that presented frequencies of haplogroups J and E among various groups, including both <strong>Ashkenazi</strong> and <strong>Sephardic</strong> populations, researchers found 14 out of 77 Ashkenazim (18.2%) were E3b, while 12 out of 40 Sephardim were E3b (30%) (Semino et﻿ al. 2004).</p>
<p>&#8220;The Y-chromosome﻿ clade defined by the PN2 transtion (PN2/M35, PN2/M2) shatters the boundaries of the phenotypically defined races&#8221; (Source: Keita, 2004, p. S18-19).</p>
<p> M78 gave birth to <strong>V12</strong> and <strong>V13</strong>, both found in populations in Greece and Italy.</p>
<p>M2 is found at high frequencies in West Africa. M2 is found in approximately 58-60% of African Americans as well.</p>

<p>M2 is found at 80% among the <strong>Tutsis </strong>of Eastern Central Africa who are thought to be originally eastern Ethiopians or Egyptian/Nile Valley people. Tutsis are said to be related to Jews. Tutsis are 100% of African origin. (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tutsi">Source</a>)</p>
<p>M2 is one of the three prevalent groups among the Nubians: M2, M35, and M78.</p>
<p>In a study of the three common variants in Egypt, M2 was found at 67% (Source: &#8220;Hisory in the Interpretation of the Patten of p49a, f RFLP Y-Chromosome Variation in Egypt: A Consideration of Multiple Lines of Evidence TaqI&#8221; Keita, 2005).</p>

<p>&#8220;<em>The <strong>Bantu expansion</strong> was a millennia-long series of migrations of speakers of the original proto-</em><em>Bantu</em><em> language group. This group is hypothesized to have originated from modern day </em><em>Cameroon</em><em>. A diffusion of language and knowledge spread among neighbouring populations, and a creation of new societal groups involving inter-marriage spread to new areas and communities. <p><em><strong>&#8220;Haplotype IV has substantial frequencies in upper Egypt and Nubia, greater than VI and VII. Sometimes haplotype IV is seen as being associated with &#8220;Bantu expansion&#8221; but this does not mean that it is not much older. Bantu languages were never spoken in these regions or Senegal, where M2 is greater than 90% in some studies. (Keita, 2004, p. 229).</strong></em></p>

<p>The Afro-Asiatic Language groups consists of Chadic, Egpytian, Berber, Omotic, Cushitic, and Semitic languages.</p>
<p>&#8220;The <strong>Nilo-Saharan languages</strong> are African languages spoken mainly in the upper parts of the Chari and Nile rivers (hence the term &#8220;Nilo-&#8221;), including historic Nubia, north of where the two tributaries of Nile meet. The languages extend through 17 nations in the northern half of Africa: from Algeria and Mali in the northwest; to Benin, Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the south; and Sudan to Tanzania in the east (excluding the Horn of Africa). The largest part of its major subfamilies are found in the modern nation of Sudan, through which the Nile River flows in all its incarnations: the White and Blue Nile, which join to form the main Nile at Khartoum. <p><em>&#8220;Recently <strong>Roger Blench</strong> has proposed that Niger-Congo is simply a branch of Nilo-Saharan, most closely related to the Central Sudanic family of Nilo-Saharan in the centre of the African continent. If this view is correct, Niger-Congo would have originated farther east than is us ually assumed, perhaps to the northwest of the present-day central Sudan. The Congo family, in Sudan, is assumed to have moved eastwards. The other families of Niger-Congo presumably were gradually compressed into West Africa as a result of the desiccation of the Sahara. As Western Africa became more crowded, Adamawa-Ubangi and Bantu expanded southwards into central Africa and later, in the case of Bantu, into eastern and southern Africa….Two relatively small families, Dogon and Ijoid, are thought to have split off next. Dogon with little internal differentiation, remained on land, south of the bend in the Niger, while Ijoid, with somewhat more internal differentiation into Defaka and the Ijo group, moved down the Niger to its confluence with the Benue and then either directly along the Niger or via the Benue and Cross River to the Niger Delta and associated waterways where it is found today….” </em>(<a href="http://www.earthrights.net/nigeria/history.html">Source</a>)</p>

<p>While concept gadgets are cool, there’s usually a thin chance they will ever come around. Not this one, although the design is more than 4 years old, the Italian company V12 Designs has devised a new version of the ‘Canova’ which is a dual LCD laptop. Why you need two screens I don’t know, but considering they’re both <a href="http://www.techfresh.net/canova-dual-touch-screen-laptop-in-2010/#" target="_blank">touchscreens</a> (with a mic for voice command) I bet you’ll have a lot of fun with it. Enough talk, they say this model should hit the market by 2010 so hold your horses! <p>A few months ago I put pen to paper and entered something called the Sir William Lyons Award. Each year it recognises the next up and coming motoring journalist, and hell, I thought, how hard can it be? Needless to say that this year, I didn&#8217;t win. I didn&#8217;t even come close to winning. But I tried nonetheless, and I&#8217;ll keep on trying until I do win. The secretary of the Guild of Motoring Writers noted that it had taken this years winner three attempts at the competition to finally win the award, and I offer my sincere congratulations to whomever it is. So I don&#8217;t view this as a failure to win, I view it as stike one of three. And besides, at least it&#8217;s given me some good blog material! So here you are then, the first of my two nearly-award-winning articles. The other one will be appearing here tommorrow, so check back soon!</p>

<p><strong>How will environmental and financial issues change our view of cars, the kind of cars we buy and the way we use them?</strong></p>
<p>Let’s face it, the motor industry has taken a pounding recently. It seems that not a week goes by now that the car isn’t being blamed for something. Ruining mother earth, causing too much noise in the village, killing cyclists, scaring cattle, the car gets blamed for the lot. But is there any truth to these claims? Is the car headed for an early appointment with the scrap yard? Sadly, I think so.</p>
<p>Now that the world is desperately short of money, and all the major car manufacturers are still hunting down the back of the sofa for a bit of spare change, now more than ever before the car is under threat. The mounting pressure from environmental groups and green lobbyists, coupled with the fact that the government is always looking for a new way of condemning the car, means that the hammer of blame once again has to fall somewhere. And sadly, I think it’s going to fall squarely onto the bonnet of the supercar. There will surely be changes to the normal car market as well, but I think the largest and most dramatic changes will be taking place in the prestige and performance market. Of course, not many of us will ever own a supercar, and on that basis you could argue that we don’t really need them at all. But if we were to kill off the supercar completely, what would we have to aspire to? What would we one day dream of owning? What would the walls of our bedrooms be covered in pictures of?</p>
<p>For the first time people are buying cars based solely on how “green” they are. It seems that now, we are so concerned with how much C02 is coming out of the exhaust, that we really couldn’t care less how a car looks, handles, or feels like to drive. What we want now are cars that are not only affordable and comfortable, but are excellent economically as well. Which, as it turns out, is just about everything a supercar isn’t. So what this means is that we’ll be stuck with only lower-end cars on the market, and the creations we’ve seen over the past few decades will be weeded out, and killed off. Creations like the KTM Xbow and the Aston Martin V12 Vantage. The Xbow is a triumph of sheer speed over common sense. To own one of these you have to say no to practicality, no to normal safety standards, you even have to wave goodbye to the roof, but the thrill of driving one is, I’m sure, unsurpassed. It’s the same story with the Vantage. When it was announced a few months ago one particular detail stuck in my mind. Never mind how fast it goes or how powerful it is. What struck me, was that this was to be the last incarnation of the Vantage ever made. This is Aston Martin’s most successful and iconic car, and yet, because of the bullying environmentals at the door, they’ve decided to end it. And that is really very sad. It makes me feel as though the Vantage is not a new car, but rather the ending of a dynasty. It seems as though Aston has said enough; we’re going out with one last bang, before we start making cheap crap for the masses.</p>
<p>You could say that the only way for the supercar to worm its way out of this impending doom is to follow the trend, and go green. BMW have been working on this for the past few years, and are set to unveil the z10 pretty soon, their first attempt at a green supercar. But really, what’s the point in that? Supercars are supposed to be rebellious; they’re meant to be bending the rules. Making a supercar go green is like forcing the SAS to wear high visibility jackets. A good idea, but not exactly sporting is it?</p>
<p>And don’t think that it’s only the kind of cars that we’ll buy that’ll be affected by all this. The way we drive is up for debate as well. If all of the performance cars are meeting their makers, then there’ll be nothing to have fun in anymore. Gone will be the days when you just go for a drive for the thrill of it. Instead, the car will become more of a tool than man’s best friend, more of a machine than a source of pleasure. Driving will become little more than a hobby, a pastime for the rich and famous to undertake on pristine country roads. Essentially it’ll become like chocolate; something to be enjoyed as a once in a while treat when nobody’s looking.</p>
<p>We keep being told that supercars simply won’t have a place in the new world, where the green car is king, and the bellow of a V8 is met with villagers toting pitchforks. It seems very much as if the supercar is done for, and that really, is a great shame.</p>
<p>I had wanted to end this piece by saying that everything would be alright, that the green lobbyists would be taken away, that the motor manufacturers could come up with a bit of money, and that all would be right with the world. The supercar could live on and the B roads of Britain would once again vibrate to the steady thunder of somebody’s V8. Every muscle in me wants to say that, but sadly, it’s just not true. Thanks to all sorts of issues, the economy and the environment being only two of them, I reckon it might be time for the supercar as we know it to hang up its hat, and live out the rest of its days in the garage, rusting away under a sheet. All that’s left to say is to ask one thing of the manufacturers. Please show us that you’re still in the fight. Let us know that you’re not finished yet. In short, please prove me wrong.</p>

These are the cars that I will probably never review because I am probably not fit to judge these as I will get extremely biased. So lets start shall we?</p>

<p>The thing is a beauty, look at all the design of the car is not one of the supercars you drive out once every 2 months, it is actually a car that you can drive out everyday, this has one of the best handling because of the 4WD. It is one of the most complete cars ever, with the V10 version out as well it has the mix of extreme power and handling, if the track in Singapore is ever made, this will be the car to drive. Also it has alot of headroom for such a low car, it is quite a wonderful car to behold and you have quite a decent boot at the front. It is not that loud as well when you go flat out (not that you will actually go that fast) It is the one car you would buy if you want a supercar you can use daily, because originally the choice ever since Honda stopped the production of the NSX (which was a pity) and the Porsche 911 became the default supercar that you can drive everyday because you can see out of it unlike most supercars, in the Audi is a great car if you can spare the cash just to drive this wonderful piece of machinary.</p>

<p>First of all, it is a Ferrari, it makes it automatically cool although it is not really beautiful compared the other Ferraris like the Enzo or the 612 Scaglietti which are both really beautiful. Although with this car you will need to have balls made of carbonfiber and a heart of stone to park this a the side of the road, because it is almost guarenteed that it will be scratched&#8230;and badly. God it is fast as well&#8230;it will go from 0-100mph in just over 7 seconds and the sound of the V12 is one of the sounds you need to hear in your life before you die. It is kinda like bungee jumping.  The ride inside is beautifully made as well. Inside the gearbox is a semi auto where you touch the flappy paddles and it engages the clutch, shifts up and disengages it very quickly and there are LED lights on the steering wheel to tell you when to change gears. If you are even given the chance to drive it even for a few minutes you have to, it is an absolute must. Although it is not the Ferrari I want, I would want the new 458 Italia&#8230;that is a really wicked car.</p>

<p>This is one of the wonders of the world because it is just a cool car that nobody should not want, it would make a nerd with buck teeth and super thick glasses attract the most beautiful woman ever. When you start it up the V12 will sound like you are already speeding like a madman, start this up next to a cop car and he will book you for speeding. Well you might have only 2 seats and you will not bring this anywhere but to do some cruising or to a reception it will draw all the attention to it. There downside? Well you will end up in the petrol station almost everywhere, because this thing drinks fuel like it was sports drink during a football match. So if you have to ask, is it good? Yes&#8230;it is very good and it is very cool.</p>

<p>It is one of the most comfortable Maserati in the mortal world and it has nice seats and accurate steering. It is fast, not extreme fast but it is normally fast and it looks like one of the most beautiful car ever. This car is super cool, like if you stab yourself with a liquid nitrogen pipe and completely fill yourself up, you will be as cool as this car. Guess what though, there is a 30gb hard drive inside with a awesome sat nav, like you really want to listen to it. 4 people can go into it and get out of it happily although head room for the back is a issue but it is nothing that will prevent you from stepping inside. I am quite a fan of 4 door cars rather than 2 doors with back seats but this one is like placing the cherry on the cake, and why not? The thing that ruins the style of this car is the license plate at the front, because the front is so beautiful and the license plate is just making the car look ugly.</p>

<p>This is one of the most awe inspiring car I have ever seen in my life, the Lamborghini Reventón (pronouced Reh-ben-ton) is the car that is based off the F22 Raptor plane that is being used by the US Air Force and it is just full of things you want, like LED brake lights, the scissor door, the giant fans at the radiator behind the car to cool the engine, the carbon fiber rims is shaped like a giant fan as well to suck in cold air and cool the brakes so that they don&#8217;t overheat, even the fuel filler cap! If I had that on my car I would go ballistic. The inside of the car has the dash with a thin film transistor LCD  which is like your HD television set. The options there are car mode, where it is a normal dash or AIRCRAFT SETTING! Where they show you things like the balance of your car to the ground etc etc. It is a truely amazing thing and this is what Lamborghini need to do&#8230;make more of cars like thsese because while modifications to the Gallardo and the (soon-to-be-extinct) Murc, they need to capture the public&#8217;s hearts with a car like this and even though I know I will never own one because only 20 are made and they are all sold out, at least I am assured that Lamborghini have not lost thier touch in the creativity department. This, therefore, is the car of my dreams.</p>

Pomimo, że wyglądał jak po kradzieży i był lekko zakurzony to już wzbudził we mnie pozytywne uczucia. Dodatkowo emblemat AMG i blacha V12 spotęgowały wrażenie. Poprosiłem więc o kluczyki celem odpalenia silnika i delektowania się (na razie) dźwiękiem, który sprawia, że ciarki przechodzą człowiekowi po plecach. Po kilku tygodniach wytężonej pracy samochód był już gotowy.</p>
<p>Pierwsze, co rzuca się w oczy, to felgi MAE o średnicy 18 cali i szerokości 9,5 cala z przodu i 10,5 cala z tyłu. Druga rzecz, to poszerzone błotniki, dzięki którym samochód wygląda jak bramkarz z klubu nocnego, tudzież buldog angielski&#8230; w każdym razie budzą respekt i nie psują wdzięku klasycznej linii SL-a. Oprócz tego obniżono zawieszenie i obito wnętrze czarną skórą. Samochód prawie całkowicie pozbawiono emblematów pozostawiając tylko gwiazdę wkomponowaną w grill, emblematy V12 oraz AMG. Ponad to auto zostało nieco obniżone i utwardzone. Ma to swoje plusy i minusy. Plusem jest to, że nie bierze zakrętów jak autobus, a minusem, że trzeba uważać na poszerzenia przy większych dziurach. Tuner twierdzi, że to wersja 55 albo 65, ale wersja 55 wychodziła z silnikiem V8, a tu mamy styczność z V12, więc przyjmijmy, że jest to 73.</p>

Po wizycie na myjni, kiedy trzeba było wysuszyć materiałowy dach wyskoczyliśmy na trasę z Poznania do Świecka. Ledwo zdążyłem wypowiedzieć swoje imię i nazwisko i już mieliśmy 200 km/h na liczniku. Kiedy nadszedł czas nawrotu, a co za tym idzie hamowania, licznik wskazywał nieco ponad 260 km/h (mam nadzieję, że jeżdżący przepisowo wybaczą nam ten jednorazowy wybryk <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' />  ). Wnętrze przypomina trochę hiszpański galeon, tudzież cygańską willę. Jest w nim pełno wszystkiego i cholernie przytłacza. No, ale za to skóra jest prawdziwa i drewno też. Oldschoolowych pokręteł, przełączników, radia i tym podobnych nie będę się czepiał. W końcu to inna epoka. Ciekawostką jest dosyć zaawansowany system obliczania spalania paliwa. Jest on schowany pod drewnianym, chowanym panelem&#8230; no bo kto by się przejmował spalaniem jeśli stać go na taki samochód.</p>
<p><img style="width:184px;height:122px;" title="Mercedes SL 73 AMG" src="http://wgrzesiak.com/GALERIE/SLAMG/images/IMG_4865.jpg" alt="Mercedes SL 73 AMG" align="left" />Jeśli miałbym wymieniać plusy, to oczywiście jest to wygląd, fotele, fakt, że jest to kabriolet, silnik, a co za tym idzie osiągi. Jeśli chodzi o minusy to jest jeden i to na dodatek subiektywny. Zawsze wsiadając do samochodu człowiek &#8220;czuje&#8221; jego &#8220;nastawienie&#8221; do kierowcy. W przypadku tego Mercedesa daje się odczuć, że nie jest on zbyt przyjaźnie nastawiony do kogokolwiek, ale jednocześnie daje się ujarzmić. <content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>I thought I should do something to celebrate McLaren as I am really excited about its new <strong><a href="http://brakebanzeen.wordpress.com/2009/09/09/mclaren-mp4-12c/" target="_blank">MP4-12C</a></strong>. It&#8217;s the first time we have seen anything from them since the legendary McLaren F1.</p>
<p>So I found this, the video posted below which is the F1&#8217;s record braking top speed run where it managed to achieve 391 km/h in 1998. Remember, this car was packing a naturally aspirated BMW V12 engine. No turbos, no superchargers or any type of forced induction. That&#8217;s something special for a car which was designed and produced in 1992.</p>

<p>The only car to beat it performance numbers-wise was the Bugatti Veyron (first produced in 2005) which has 16 cylinders and 4 turbos. And I stress that it was only able to beat it in the top speed department. The proof is in the video below.</p>

В смысле, что да, симпатично и не отталкивающе, но петь дифирамбы в стиле &#8220;офигительно&#8221;, &#8220;крышесносяще&#8221; или &#8220;если ты это не хочешь, ты труп&#8221; я бы не стал. Ибо в моем понимании &#8211; офигительно и крышесносяще это, например Citroen GT. Или Mazda Furai. Но никак не зализанное купе с пастью, которым вдохновлялись дизайнеры Пежо.</p>

<p>This week, during <a href="http://blogs.wsj.com/chinajournal/2009/09/30/live-blogging-the-national-day-parade/">China&#8217;s National Day parade</a>, many viewers saw for the first time China&#8217;s first (and some would say only) luxury car brand &#8212; <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FAW_Hongqi">Hong Qi (Red Flag)</a> &#8212; in action, carrying President Hu Jintao and Lieutenant General Fang Fenghui to Tian&#8217;anmen. For people unfamiliar with China&#8217;s exclusive home-grown luxury vehicle &#8212; generally reserved only for top leaders &#8212; what&#8217;s beneath the hood of Hong Qi&#8217;s newest model?</p>
<p><a href="http://www.chinacartimes.com/2009/10/02/chairman-hus-red-flag-limo/">China Car Times </a>takes a look:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>Information on the cars used in this years National Day celebrations is thin on the ground, we have learned that they measure 6.4 meters long, 2.05 meters wide and are 1.72 meters high, and with power being delivered by a V12 engine. The cars were considered state secrets during their development and were all hand made by First Automobile Workers in Changchun.</em></p></blockquote>

<blockquote><p><em>First Automobile Works was created during China’s first five year plan (</em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five-Year_Plans_of_China#The_First_Five-Year_Plan.2C_1953-57"><em>1953 – 1957</em></a><em>).to create an independent auto mobile industry that would be able to produce trucks and buses to free China from reliance on the then USSR. The Hong Qi brand was set up to provide state limosuines to government departments in the early sixties, previously Chinese dignitaries had to use captured American made Willy’s Jeeps, open air trucks or Soviet made limousines from which to address the military or the people. Since then Hong Qi has become a semi luxury brand for FAW, with FAW’s partnership with Audi, FAW was able to produce the Audi 80, 100 and 200 under the Hong Qi brand and provide a semi luxurious car brand to private buyers and companies across China during the 90’s.</em></p>
<p><em>Hong Qi has failed to innovate in the past few years with new independent development of cars, but yesterday&#8217;s unveiling of the latest generation of state limousines shows Hong Qi still has what it takes to produce a limousine that takes on modern styling, but keeps the traditional styling of past state limousines.</em></p></blockquote>
<p><a href="http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-10/01/content_12159884.htm">According to Xinhua</a>, the new model represents an effort on the part of Hong Qi to incorporate design features that resonate with a Chinese audience:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>Chinese features were evident in the design, said Guo Shijun, head of the Hongqi manufacture department of FAW. </em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;For instance, the radiator grille was in the shape of a Chinese folding fan, and the taillight was like an ancient palace lantern,&#8221; he said.</em></p></blockquote>
<p>With China&#8217;s domestic car industry rushing to develop luxury vehicles that will appeal to Chinese buyers and rival the dominance of BMW and Mercedes in the China market, it&#8217;s a shame that Hong Qi, a brand with the know-how and, yes, the pedigree to build cars that the high-powered executives targeted by Geely (with the GE model) seem uninterested in going beyond their core market of top-level government officials. A brand spin-off of Hong Qi, preserving the brand pedigree while using a new mark so as to maintain Hong Qi&#8217;s association with top officials, could be an option, and could actually become China&#8217;s first true luxury automotive brand. These are all &#8220;what-ifs,&#8221; however. If recent history is any indication, Hong Qi as a company is quite happy building what it has always built &#8212; premium limousines and cars for China&#8217;s government elite.</p>

<p>I had spent too long pouring over diagrams and Ferrari family history, but I was still no closer to what I&#8217;d seen.</p>
<p>Beauty, of course, is in the eye of the beholder. Although a steam engine or V8 are not  beautiful in the classical sense, either of these forms can make a grown man weep. When Morgan Man had shown me what was easily the star of the local classic Hill climb I had rediscovered what makes my fascination with machines tick. A tiny Ferrari 340MM with a perfectly formed 2-litre V12 barely filling it&#8217;s engine bay struck my very being. MM stands for Mille Miglia. This was more than just a car. This was a purpose built racing grand tourer.</p>
<p>Purpose in yowling through the Italian countryside.</p>
<p>Purpose in keeping its driver safe and informed.</p>
<p>Purpose in firing its tiny twelve cylinders in perfect order.</p>
<p>I could feel its latent busy energy in the Sunday Autumn air.</p>
<p>So why the family history searching? Turns out, from what I can make out, the little Ferrari has the wrong body for the engine.</p>
<p>OR</p>
<p>The wrong engine for the body. The engine  marked it as an earlier 166MM. The body identified a 340MM. I&#8217;m currently awaiting a reply from Morgan Man on the matter.</p>
<p>Coma-inducing sadness aside, what else was there? Well, as a clanging hangover had driven me and The Business Man to Prescott, as I&#8217;d crunched the gears on the PanzerWagon, as the official on the gate had looked on in horror, Morgan Man had met us at the gates. We parked up, walked up the field car park. The smell of unburnt petrol seared my nostrils. There was no mistaking it. We&#8217;d parked near a pack of TVRs.</p>
<p>Crossing the bridge to the infield (so to speak) revealed row after row of classic metal, plastic and rubber. Here a Type 51, there a Lotus Cortina. Here, the most immaculate Healey 3000 in the known Universe, there some students with a tiny single seater powered by a screaming superbike engine.</p>
<p>We were drunk on the fumes, the colours, the sounds. We were re-drunk on a couple of pints. Further staggering found an excruciatingly rare Aston martin DB7 Zagato.</p>
<p>&#8220;It <em>is</em> beautiful&#8221; I slurred,</p>
<p>&#8220;but then it <em>is</em> an XJS underneath&#8221;. Tact, as most things, goes out of the window when your blood is flooded with Guinness. Luckily, the owner wasn&#8217;t around, luckily someone laughed.</p>
<p>unfortunately, as my benefactor, Morgan Man, pointed out, this was the to be last hill climb of the season.</p>
<p>Fortunately Morgan Man promises a full season next year. By that time AutoEclectic may have made the leap to video.</p>

<p>So we all know about Lamborghini&#8217;s stealth fighter jet on wheels; the Reventon don&#8217;t we? Yes, well now the Italian automaker has released a topless roadster version of the unique supercar set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. You will be able to cruise the streets or race down the track in your Reventon with the top down!</p>
<p>The numbers have virtually remained the same. Not that it&#8217;s a bad thing. You will still be reaching blistering speeds thanks to the same 6.5L V12, carrying 661 horsepower and 487lb-ft of torque. Like the coupe, you will be able to hit the 62mph mark in 3.4  seconds which should help when you race a few fighter jets down the track, (until of course they take off into flight, you see cars can&#8217;t fly, the Reventon hasn&#8217;t solved this problem.)</p>
<p>Much like a fighter jet, this Italian piece of art will run you quite a bit of money. How much? Over 1.7 million CAD unfortunately. See my budget was 1.6 million, so I just missed the mark on this one. There may be another thing in my way, that would be it&#8217;s units. Lamborghini says that there will only be 20 or less of them made.</p>
<p>My Thoughts: Like the coupe, the Reventon Roadster looks absolutely phenomenal. Personally I think the design is just fascinating, it quietly screams uniqueness and creativity, you just won&#8217;t see another car with such intricate design work out there. I am also a more low key guy myself so this look really speaks to me although I&#8217;ll take the coupe version myself.</p>
<p>Thumbs up! The Reventon never lets you down!</p>

<p>The Reventon was already Lamborghini&#8217;s most expensive and exclusive (only 20 ever made) production car at $1.4 million. You know this version will add a few dollars to that price! Apparently these photos have been leaked ahead of the Frankfurt Auto Show.</p>

<p>Expect the same 6.5 liter V12 engine from the coupe model which put out 651 horsepower to all 4 wheels. No word yet on how many will be produced but be expecting a similar number to the 20 coupes ever built.</p>

<p>And so, now to talk about that elephant in the room, that gorilla from (or in) the corner.</p>
<p>Yes indeed, we come around to Top Gear, that corner of entertainment on a Sunday, that reason for getting excited about the i-player, that reason why I get teary when I watch the Eurofighter take on the Veyron, why I get emotional when slow pans take in the form of a Pacific class locomotive or the curvy hip line of a Bentley Brooklands. For many it can do no wrong.<br />
&#8216;Make Jeremy Clarkson Prime Minister!&#8217; shout the mob. Let him take us back to those dewy eyed days, those rose tinted times.<br />
For Mr Clarkson lives in a world where transportation and indeed these vehicles that exceed transportation, those vehicles that hold dreams together, those cars that are woven with the passion of a nations culture or of a single minded engineers dreams, Mr Clarkson lives in a world where those dreams are under threat.<br />
Under threat by road pricing, under threat by bureaucracy in Brussels, under threat from speed cameras, and satellite tracking, from limits and the relentless march of the climate change lobby. He can see no alternative but the end of passionate bellowing power to the people cars. Indeed he made this clear in his review of the Aston Martin Vantage V-12.<br />
Usually a man of many words we were treated to a choral Autumn ending inspired soundtrack, a soundtrack that can and will bring a tear to the eye, a soundtrack that graced that visual master piece, Sunshine.<br />
His review was quietly spoken, withdrawn, set on a road of thought, it was his lament. This is all going to end he says. No more will we see the like of these almost pointless pieces of automotive art.<br />

How about going to fill up your car but not feeling guilty about where the fuel has come from?<br />
How about new forms of drama over the bark of a flat plane crank or 12 pistons dancing with 48 valves in a whirl of fire and old ideas. How about the dream of Bangle, how about the drama of entering a slip-road, accelerating for the Motorway and the whole car changing shape around you? How about having a car that doubles as a power station. How about going home and using your vehicle to make a meal for your family, to surf the Internet, to have a hot shower in the morning?<br />
Of course, you could say that all of this could sound anodyne. Sure, there&#8217;s drama in dynamics,sure there&#8217;s hope in a more efficient, more socially responsible power network but what of fun? What of the sounds?<br />
To this I retort, I cry from the seat of my vehicle, you have underestimated the consumer! You have underestimated the engineer! People will always want fun cars, people will always want an aspirational device to be seen in. Just look at the hum-drum hatchback market. Why would you ever bother to make a Clio or Focus less efficient, noisier or slightly impractical.<br />
Why indeed does the Renault Sport Clio 197 or Focus RS exist? Why did Renault go a bit nuts and put a stripped Megane on the market with plastic windows? Why did it cost allot more for allot less? How did they sell them all strait away?<br />
It is because, people, consumers, individuals and groups will always want fun, will always want drama and performance and elegance and status.<br />
It has been said that the car is the marketing mans dream, that it represents the pinnacle of the consumer ideal. I believe it will carry on doing so. I believe that the Aston Martin of tomorrow will continue to be beautiful to behold, will continue to have great performance, will continue to have drama to its name. It doesn&#8217;t matter what its powered by or how its limited. It is the dream of freedom that will not die.<br />

<p>I know this car has been out for quite some time now, but I never had the chance to post about it before. So here it is! In all it&#8217;s 661 horsepower, 487 pound-fee of torque and rear-mounted Italian V12 glory. As Tony Montana (Scarface) once said: &#8220;say hello to my little friend&#8221;. The Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SuperVeloce (pronounced Velo-chay from what I gather). I mean, would it be an Italian supercar without the overly exaggerated long name? I&#8217;m afraid not dear readers. The Italians don&#8217;t do half-ass.</p>
<p>The LP 670-4 moniker is broken down into the following: LP stands for &#8220;Longitudinale Posteriore&#8221; which translates to longitudinally mounted engine; 670 is the approximate horsepower count; the number 4 means it&#8217;s 4-wheel drive; and SuperVeloce simply means Stupid Crazy! Ok, I made that last bit up.</p>

<p>Lamborghini estimates a 0-60 mph time of 3 seconds. You have two rear-wing options which have a direct affect on top speed performance. The standard lip spoiler will see the car hit a cyclonic top speed of 212 mph; however, if you specify the behemoth &#8220;AeroPack&#8221; wing (pictured above), it will only allow you to reach 209 mph. 3 mph is not much of a difference in my opinion and the carbon fiber &#8220;AeroPack&#8221; wing would be my choice hands down. It just adds so much to the already aggressive nature of the raging bull.</p>

<p>In order for the car to handle better than the &#8220;regular&#8221; (can&#8217;t believe I&#8217;m using such a word to describe a Lambo) Murcielago, the engineers put the overweight bull on a crash diet shedding a total of 220 pounds. The car is estimated to have an incredible output of 1 horsepower per 5.2 pounds&#8230; maybe they should just call it &#8220;ragingbullpower&#8221; instead.</p>
<p>It looks the part but does it sound the part? The SuperVeloce is accompanied by an aural symphony which is harmonized by the V12 engine and out through the exhaust system (listen to the Stig conducting the concerto on the Top Gear course in the video below). You&#8217;ll also find that the SuperVeloce is no slouch around a race course either. The bull means business and no matador wants to mess with this one! Guaranteed.</p>
<p>Only 350 of the SuperVeloce will ever be built so if you have the moola get a move-on!</p>
