The golden, red, and orange leaves rushed by on a balmy fall afternoon as we traveled to Washington, DC. The annual VRMA conference was set to begin that evening and we were determined not to miss a thing. The Vacation Rental Managers Association is the largest association of professional vacation rental managers, promoting the value of the vacation rental experience and fostering professionalism through seminars and workshops conducted by industry leaders. HomeStead Real Estate Co. has been a VRMA member since 2002, and is the only real estate agency on the island holding membership.

Dagmer Chew, our Broker/Owner was in attendance with Bill Nace, Rental Manager, Chris Moore, Reservationist, and me Pat Cornwell, Web & Graphic Arts Specialist. Arriving just in time to register, (due to a traffic incident along the way) we networked at the trade show that evening, and Monday set to work attending workshops. Our mission was to gain as much knowledge as possible, so we decided to divide and conquer. Dagmer attended business strategy workshops while Chris and Bill attended the customer service enhancement seminars. I took the route of web and online marketing courses. By conclusion of the event we had learned more about the vacationing public, the newest tendencies and upcoming trends for which to watch. We established new business contacts and had the opportunity to pick the brains of some of the best in the industry.

Coming home Wednesday afternoon the car was silent as we tried to digest all the information to which we had been exposed. Once again the beautiful fall colors accompanied us all the way back to Cape May. Home again, we were instructed to organize our notes and be prepared to present the Rental Team with our newfound knowledge. At the meeting changes were discussed, duties assigned, and projects set in motion. And that’s how the HomeStead Real Estate Blog was born.
