Efter 2 vintrar i denna underbara by så var jag tvungen att åka tillbaka. Denna gång med 8 av mina bästa vänner.
Vi åkte med Langley och bodde på det centralt belägna hotellet Ruitor.

6 av oss bodde på Ruitor och 2 på Grand Nord.

Dagarna var ganska så lika varandra. Såg ungefär ut så här:
08.30 – Vaknar och går till frukosten.
09.30 – Backen, solen skiner och massa sköna skidor.
12.00 – Lunch eller Picninc i backen med massa sol och god mat.
15.00 – LA FOLIE DOUCE. BÄSTA AFTER SKIIIN I VÄRLDEN!
17.15 – Hemgång från 2500 möh till byn på 1850! Intressant… Gick bra.
18.00 – After Skiin fortsätter på Victors på vårt hotell.
19.00 – After Skii på 103:an med alla poolare.
19.45 – Ombyte för maten på hotellet.
20.00 – 3-rätters i reston på hotellet + massa god dryck.
22.00 – 01.00 – Victors Bar. Ganska så nice.
01.00 – Café Face / Dansken.
02.00 – Members Club
03.00 – 05.00 – Doudone eller Dick’s.
05.00 – 08.00 – Sova lite kanske….

Så där såg det ut faktiskt många 24h:s. Håller ett tag.

Bästa Kelly sjunger på LFD!

Vädret var riktigt bra. Vi fick lite fin snö till söndagen och torsdagen. Resten av dagarna var det LFD-väder. Alltså soligt.
Vi firade även 2 födelsedagar där nere, Grattis Johan & Martin Andersson igen! 29 och 26 år. Det rullar iväg.

Nästa år är redan bokat, men tills dess ser vi fram emot en underbar sommar i Sverige med återträff i Uppsala till Valborg.
Nu ska jag sova.

Le skieur libanais Georges Salameh risque d’être suspendu après avoir été contrôlé positif à la cocaïne pendant les championnats du monde de Val d’Isère le mois dernier.

La Fédération internationale de ski a confirmé jeudi que le skieur de 33 ans avait été contrôlé positif pendant les Mondiaux.

“L’échantillon B a confirmé les résultats du A qui contenait une substance interdite, la benzoylecgonine, un métabolite de cocaïne”, a annoncé la secrétaire générale de la fédération internationale de ski, Sarah Lewis, and un email.

Une commission de la FIS va désormais se réunir pour examiner l’affaire. Le skieur risque au maximum deux ans de suspension.

Salameh, champion du Liban en slalom et en géant, avait disputé les courses de qualification dans les deux disciplines à Val d’Isère mais n’avait pas atteint les courses principales.

February 13,2009 – Men – Giant Slalom

Compared to what happend the day before the race, the results seemed just to be unimportant. At February 12 Daniel Albrecht who has been in a coma after his horrible accident in Kitzbühl at January 22, woke up! Great news; not only for the Swiss racers, even for all the others. The fact that he was as well as can be expected under the circumstances made everybody feel relievered. The past 3 week hasn’t been easy for everyone, especially Carlo Janka was affected by the accident. Albrecht and Janka are close friends and moreover, they’re regular roommates. It seems that this great news inspired the Swiss team! Carlo Janka won the gold medal on the same couse where he won his first World Cup race last December. He dedicated his victory to his injured friend. He Benjamin Raich took silver. It was the first medal for Austria’s men’s team at this Championship. Ted Ligety won bronze. It was also the first medal for the men of the US-team.

February 14, 2009 – Women – Slalom

Maria Riesch won her first medal and the second gold medal for Germany at this World Championship. The leader after the first run – Manuela Mölgg – failed in the second one. Sarka Zahrobska, titel holder of the last World Championships in 2007 in Are, won the silver medal and Tanja Poutainen won her second bronze medal in Val d’Isère. Denise Karbon was again very unlucky. After being 4th in giant slalom she also got 4th in slalom. She missed a medal due to 0.01s!

February 15, 2009 – Men – Slalom
The ranking:

1. Manfred Pranger AUT
2. Julien Lizeroux FRA

It was a race with lots of mistakes and falls. Lots of the favourits failed on the difficult course in Val d’Isère. Of course, each of them attacked and took risks. And as it is normal for a slalom, mistakes easily happen.
Giorgio Rocca ITA was the first to quit the race. Other racers followed him in the first run, for example Manfred Herbst AUT, Mario Matt AUT, Marcel Hirscher AUT, Bode Miller USA, Marc Berthod and Marc Gini of the Swiss team.

Also the second run was full of surprises. While Johan Brolenius SWE (2. after first run), Jean-Baptiste Grange FRA (3.), Ted Ligety USA (5.), Manfred Mölgg (6.) and Benjamin Raich (7.) quitted the race, Manfred Pranger (leade after first run) showed neves of steel, defended his leader position and won the gold medal. With his title he saved Autria from a big embarrassment, since it’s the only men’s gold medal at this World Championship.

But not only the abovementionned racers quitted, there were even more. After all there were just 17 racers who managed to finish the race.

Unfortunately the Swiss racers could not profit from the failures of the other racers. Marc Berthod and Marc Gini quitted in the first run and Silvan Zurbriggen in the second one too. The only Swiss who finished the race was Sandro Viletta (13.).

Lindsey Vonn won her second gold medal and Lara Gut won her second silver medal at this World Championship. An impressive performance of the 17-year-old Lara Gut, since she felt very ill that day. Also Nadja Fanchini had a good race and won her first medal in Val d’Isère.

Swiss racers: 17. Fabienne Suter, Nadia Styger DNF, Dominique Gisin DNF

February 9, 2009 – Men – Super Combined
The ranking:

1. Aksel Lund Svindal NOR

After the bronze medal in Super-G race Aksel Lund Svindal won the gold medal in the Super Combined. Lizeroux won the silver medal with a fantastic slalom run catching up 20 ranks. Bronze went to the Croat with one of the most unpronounceable names of this World Championships Zrncic-Dim. It’s a big surprise after the withdraw of the Croat Ivica Kostelic, who was one of the favourits. Zurbriggen missed a medal due to 0.01s.

Swiss racers: Carlo Janka DNF (after a disappointing downhill run he was 30. He decided not to start in Slalom and to practice Giant Slalom instead)

February 11, 2009 – Nations Team Event

Unfortunately the Nations Team Event was cancelled due to the snow conditions. It was not re-scheduled.

February 12, 2009 – Women – Giant Slalom
The ranking:

Lara Gut quitted the race on the beginning of the slope with the best intermediate time. After the gastric flu she didn’t have enough power. Anyway it was a great World Championship for her.
Kathrin Hölzl won the first medal for Germany at this World Championship. Tina Maze took silver with an impressive 2nd run. Poutiainen won her first medal in Val d’Isère.
Zettel, the leader after 1st run, couldn’t defend her advantage and got only 6th.

February 3, 2009 – Super-G – Women

February 4, 2009 – Men – Super-G

Didier Cuche showed a great race and he almost outclassed the rest of the world. He was in the lead by almost 1 second over Peter Fill.

Big respect towards Svindal! Almost 1 ½ years after his bad accident in Beaver Creek he won the bronze medal.

Innerhofer was very unlucky, he missed the bronze medal due to 0.05s!

February 6, 2009 – Women – Super Combined

Switzerland’s darling Lara Gut won her first medal at World Championships. The 17-year old girl was a little bit disadvantaged by the weather during her downhill run. But after all she finished 2nd after the downhill run. Lindsey Vonn was the leader after the downhill run, but she was disqualified after the slalom run after missing a gate.

Kathrin Zettel won the gold medal with a great perfromance in the slalom. It was the first gold medal for Team Austria. Lara Gut also did great in the slalom, since she’s not an expert in slalom and won the first medal for Swiss Women’s Team. She’s really the rising star of the Swiss Team.

February 7, 2009 – Men – Downhill

Surprise, surprise! The persons who betted on a triumph of John Kucera, surely won a lot of money . It’s a real surprise that he won, since he didn’t belong to the big favourits, although everybody knew that he was very skilled. He’s the first Canadian man to win this event at World Chmpionships! Didier Cuche collected his second medal at this World Championship. He missed the gold medal due to 0.04s. Carlo Janka had a good run and captured the bronze medal. Who thought that he’d be able to win a medal a couple of months ago?!?

Unfortunately the weather conditions weren’t very fair. The favourits like Bode Miller USA, Aksel Lund Svindal NOR or Michael Walchhofer AUT had a bad visibility and had no chances to get a medal.

Didier Défago SUI made the race exciting again. He profitated from the better weather conditions and had a good first intermediate time, but he couldn’t make use of the good conditions and he unfortunately fell. What a pitty! Fortunately he didn’t hurt.

Deep respect towards Michael Walchhofer. He started two times because the officials let him start too early. He managed to be faster in his second “run” on the difficult Bellevarde course.

La vertigineuse piste de Val d'Isère a souri aux Suisses

Ski alpin, Cuche, Gut, Janka… Blablabla et blablabli. J’en vois déjà qui baillent au fond de la salle à l’idée de lire un énième papier sur le ski, sur la Suisse qui brille, sur ces héros des championnats du monde de Val d’Isère. Alors, tentons une dernière fois de les convaincre de l’authentique exploit réalisé par l’équipe de Suisse sur les pentes de Haute-Tarentaise. Deux semaines de folie!

L’ahurissant tableau des médailles est éloquent, rien de plus. Dans un classement où l’on constate une toujours plus forte internationalisation du ski (12 nations ont récolté une médaille), la Suisse prend une magnifique première place. Du jamais vu depuis 20 ans et les Mondiaux de Vail, aux USA, à la grande époque du ski suisse. La Suisse avait alors ramené 11 médailles, dont 3 en or (Walliser, Schneider, Hangl). Toutefois, 20 après, l’exploit est d’autant plus grand que davantage de nations peuvent rivaliser (seules 7 nations avaient été médaillées à Vail).

Bref, on croit presque revivre les stratosphériques Mondiaux de Crans-Montana en 1987. A la maison, la Suisse avait glané 14 médailles et 8 des 10 titres mis en jeu (2 pour Maria Walliser, 2 pour Erika Hess, 1 pour Vreni Schneider, 2 pour Pirmin Zurbriggen et 1 pour Peter Müller). On en verse encore une larme maintenant. Mais là aussi l’époque était différente (7 nations médaillées) et la compétition peut-être un peu moins relevée. Même l’Autriche, qui a survolé les 20 dernières années, n’a jamais réussi pareil exploit. Une performance qui ne sera sûrement jamais égalée.

Mais ce millésime 2009 à Val d’Isère affiche des petits airs de Crans-Montana. Six médailles pour la Suisse (2 en or, 3 en argent et 1 en bronze). Devant l’Autriche, qui a raté ses Mondiaux en n’étant que 2e nation (5 médailles), et devant les USA (3 médailles). Six médailles pour trois héros, Didier Cuche, Lara Gut et Carlo Janka. Un phénoménal “papy” venu des Bugnenets et deux jeunes pousses qui viennent d’éclore et qui sont déjà au sommet.

Didier Cuche est peut-être le plus méritant, lui qui n’avait jamais été champion du monde et qui n’avait peut-être plus beaucoup d’occasions de le devenir à 34 ans. La pression, il ne connaît pas. Une course inimaginable en Super-G et quelques centièmes de trop en descente, le Neuchâtelois est passé tout près du doublé. Et tout le monde l’aime, notre Didier national.

Lara Gut n’en est pas moins méritante. A 17 ans, la pétillante Tessinoise est déjà au firmament des lattes. Deux médailles d’argent au goût de fraicheur et de bonheur, en combiné et en descente, deux fois derrière des reines confirmées, Kathrin Zettel et Lindsey Vonn. Et Lara de savourer ces moments avec un naturel de vieille routinière avec le plaisir d’une néophyte. Avec en plus un grain de malice qui a attendri tout le Cirque blanc.

Carlo Janka, le dernier larron, est le plus discret, mais pas le moins talentueux. Choqué il y a 3 semaines par la terrible chute de Daniel Albrecht à Kitzbühel, le Grison a su relever la tête, se reconcentrer et se surpasser pour son pote toujours cloué sur un lit du côté d’Innsbruck. Une étonnante 3e place en descente et une explosion en géant, devant un Beni Raich tout dépité de voir ce blanc-bec le devancer. A 22 ans et alors que personne ou presque ne le connaissait vraiment en début de saison.

Et les premiers mots de Janka? Une victoire pour Dani. Ceux de Cuche? Pour Dani! Lara? Pour Dani. Des Mondiaux de tout premier plan pour offrir à Albrecht un réveil moins douloureux. Le ski, c’est individuel, mais c’est aussi une équipe. Des amis. Une famille, avec le grand frère Cuche et les enfants Lara et Carlo, le cousin Silvan (4e en combiné, manquant la fête du podium pour seulement un centième) et le tonton Déf’ (éliminé en descente, alors qu’il bondissait vers le podium). Et même tata Fraenzi (qui a complètement manqué ces joutes et cette saison, mais qui continue à se réjouir des succès de la fratrie).

Avec ces jeunots et quelques fringants papys, on a toutes les raisons d’espérer d’autres succès à Vancouver l’an prochain et aux Mondiaux de Garmisch en 2011. Et que ceux qui n’aiment toujours pas le ski retournent à leur tricot et à leur feuilleton à l’eau de rose, ils sont perdus pour la science. Vive le ski!
