The other day, I had the priviledge to photograph some products by Ginny Marsella, owner of Ginny’s Tarts & Treats. I’ve known Ginny for a couple of years now, as she is also a PHENOMENAL massage therapist and I’d highly recommend her to anyone who needs one!

I also had the YUMMY experience to sample many of her creations and they are FABULOUS! To be honest, I am not one for white chocolate, but one of my favorites is the white chocolate covered potato chips. They are awesome!! So you see, even if you prefer one chocolate over the other, you have GOT to try both. Ginny’s Candied Apples are to DIE for and there are so many options for those.

I could go on and on about her products but I would definitely recommend contacting Ginny if you ever need a wonderful gift with a personal touch. Charming spring card for a hero's sweetie.

For my valentine on the Operation Write Home Veterans Day Blog Hop, I decided to do a spring card. 

Why just make a valentine, I figure, when one can make one that almost leaps out of its envelope to deliver a hug.  Better yet, how about one that, wherever a sweetie set it, looks great and is a constant reminder of their love’s love for them?

Side? Too visible!

Only one problem for an OWH card:  where’s our hero supposed to put the message his sweetie’s been waiting so anxiously for?

Can’t put it on the side–too many scores and folds, plus it will show from the front.

Bottom? Too small!

Maybe could put it on the bottom–if our hero is a person of only three or four words.

Back? Too lumpy!

Guess it could go on the back. . . .

But, don’t our heroes sacrifice enough without having to write home on paper lumpy with rhinestone brads?

Nah, I thought, there had to be a better way. . . .

On an accordian insert? BINGO!!

. . . .and there is:  just tuck in an accordion-fold insert!

True, the spring card loses a touch of the ‘boing’ factor with the insert tucked in.

First of all, Karen Brewer and Ricky Torres are the two fugliest ( or most fug??) children I have ever seen!!!! EWWWWWWWWWW!

Karen is invited to Pamela Harding’s birthday party, and Karen can’t stand her. Karen calls Nancy to see if she was invited to Pamela’s party. She was. Karen and Nancy decide to get Pamela presents that she will hate.  Nancy thinks maybe she will give Pamel the prize at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box, which I find sort of funny.  The next day at school, Ricky Torres tells Karen he was also invited to Pamela’s birthday party,which he finds weird.  Bobby Gianelli says he doesn’t know why Pamela invited boys to her girly party. Natalie Springer says that since Pamela doesn’t like her, Nancy, Hannie or Karen she doesn’t know why Pamela would invite them. Pamela comes in with her cronies, Jannie and Leslie, in tow and says that her parents made her invite the whole class to her birthday party.  As Pamela, Jannie and Leslie walk off, Ricky and Karen say that maybe they can jinx Pamela’s party and play tricks on her and buy her awful gifts.  Ricky says he would love to bring Pamela a snake for her birthday! He wonders where he can find a real snake.  Ms. Colman then announces that the class with have a Valentine’s Day party. Karen thinks to herself that she has to get Ricky a super gigundo good Valentine’s Day present as Karen and Ricky are engaged, after all. Groan.

It’s the day of Pamela’s party, and we find out that Karen got Pamela plastic bracelets in different colors and Karen knows Pamela will hate them.  Karen’s mom questions if that is a good gift for Pamela but Karen tells her mom it’s perfectly adequate.  Karen doesn’t even bother to dress up for the party she just wears a baggy red sweater and jeans. Did kids actually get dressed up for birthday parties back in the early 90’s? I know I never did.  Pamela is having a circus party and has a clown and juggler.  Karen keeps waiting for Ricky to do mean things to Pamela as he said he would, but he never does. He tells Pamela he likes the cake at the party, and that her dress looks pretty. Karen is gigundo mad!  Karen can’t wait for Pamela to open Ricky’s present, since Ricky said he is getting her a snake! When Pamela does open Ricky’s gift, though, it’s a pair of purple suspenders- very Claudia Kishi. Pamela loves them and says she can wear them with  her blue pants, and Karen whispers to Ricky that she thought Ricky was getting Karen a snake, but Ricky says his mom wouldn’t let him. Karen is not happy that Ricky was nice to Pamela and got her a cool present at the birthday party.

At school on Monday, Ricky tries to talk to Karen but Karen ignores her. Karen decides that she will not talk to Ricky because she has decided Ricky has a crush on Pamela, and likes her more than he likes Karen. So Karen starts talking to Nancy and Ricky asks Karen why she isn’t speaking to him.  Karen doesn’t reply.  Karen later tells Ricky she’s mad because Ricky is a traitor- he didn’t do one mean thing to Pamela at her party, and didn’t get her a snake for her birthday. Ricky is all ” so what?”  Ricky asks Karen to play dodgeball at recess and Karen refuses. After recess, Ms. Colman says kids need to choose partners to write a poem together. Ricky shocks Karen by asking Pamela if she wants to be partners!  Karen knew it- Ricky DOES have a crush on Pamela! So Karen does her schoolwork, and then writes another poem for Ricky that’s all ” icky Ricky and Pamela sittin’ in a tree” and you know the rest I can imagine.  Ricky sees the poem and sticks his tongue out at Karen. Karen sticks her tongue out at Ricky. Then Ricky wads up the note, spits in it, and throws a spitball at Karen that Ms. Colman doesn’t see. Karen has a feeling she and Ricky aren’t getting married after all. God, I hate Ricky and Karen’s pretend marriage.

Karen and Andrew make Valentine’s Day cards for all of the kids at the big house and discuss how they will have Valentine’s Day parties at each house.  At school, Ricky and Karen are doing mean things to each other- Ricky squirts a picture Karen is drawing with ink, and then Karen sticks a huge wad of gum in Ricky’s desk.  Then Ricky retaliates by putting a mashed banana in Karen’s desk. When Nancy and Hannie see that, they join in on this fight and call Ricky ” sticky Ricky” because of the gum on his desk, and eventually most of the girls start calling Ricky ” icky, sticky Ricky.” Ricky calls Karen ” Rotten Karen” and the boys are all against Karen, Hannie, and Nancy and most of the other girls in class. But Pamela, Jannie and Leslie are on Ricky’s side and when Ricky calls Karen ” four eyes” Karen says ” you are four eyes too Ricky” and Pamela says ” well I am not four eyes- Karen is a four eyes, Karen is a four eyes.” Karen is glad when the school week is over.

Karen decides she wants to make up with Ricky and the perfect day to do is Valentine’s Day. She tells Hannie she will make Ricky a really gigundo cool, romantic Valentine’ s Day card. Hannie is going to make one for Scott Hsu, who is Hannie’s pretend friggin husband. Damn- all these 7 year olds are married, and me and most of my 30 and 31 year old friends aren’t? Life isn’t fair   Karen and Andrew go to buy Valentine’s Day cards for their friends in class with their mom. Andrew gets a Valentine’s Day card special for this girl Mandy in his preschool class, and Karen teases Andrew that Mandy is his girlfriend and Andrew doesn’t even protest.  Karen gets two special cards for Hannie and Nancy, but then decides to make a special card for Ricky Torres at home that’s full of glitter and says ” Love Karen” on it.

Mommy and Seth make a special Valentine’s Day breakfast on Valentine’s Day. They make strawberry pancakes with strawberry flavored milk. Karen wears all red- a red dress, red tights and red shoes, with a red bracelet. Karen got barrettes from Mommy and Seth and Andrew got a red Matchbox car. Then Seth gives Karen’s mom a carnation and they kiss in front of Andrew and Karen and Karen is all ewwwwww about it. Hey Karen part of marriage is kissing so get used to it!  Karen is nervous that Ricky will not give her a Valentine.

In school, Karen notices that Pamela only has Valentine’s Day cards for Leslie, Jannie and RICKY!! Karen waits all day for a Valentine from Ricky- and never sees one. Karen is gigundo bummed of course.  The class party is great times other than Karen having to hear Pamela tell Ricky ” happy Valentine’s Day” and Ricky blushing and saying thank you.  But then as Karen opens her Valentines, Ricky pulls out a huge envelope from his desk and passes it to Karen!  It’s a huge Valentine’s card that says 2 good 2 be 4 gotten and Ricky writes that he is sorry and still wants to marry Karen.  Ricky and Karen make up and declare that they will get married Monday on the playground, and anyone who wants to come is invited! Karen also feels bad that Natalie Springer got the least amount of Valentine’s ( she sounds like me in 2nd grade) and Karen decides she has to do something nice for Natalie.

 At the big house, everyone loves the Valentine’s cards Karen and Andrew made, and Karen gets tons of cards from the big house family. Then Karen and the big house family go to McDonald’s and have a great time.  After McDonald’s, Karen invites Hannie over to ” plan the wedding. ” Hannie suggests that Karen wear her good pink dress and nice winter coat. Hannie and Karen also make a paper flower bouquet ( because Ricky gave Karen a paper flower when he proposed) and a paper corsage for Ricky.  Karen also picks Hannie and Nancy to be her bridesmaids, and tells Ricky to wear a suit to the wedding, and Ricky reluctantly agrees. And Karen decides “being nice to Natalie” is asking Natalie to play the violin at Karen’s wedding. Natalie can only play Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and Karen says that is fine. Yeah how is being nice to Natalie having her play the violin for YOUR wedding, Karen? Well Natalie seems happy to be part of the wedding.  The day of the wedding, Nancy and Hannie wear matching dressses, and Ricky has picked Hank Reubens and Bobby Gianelli to be his ushers. Most of the kids are very dressed up for Karen’s stupid wedding.

So Karen and Ricky get married by some girl named Audrey in the class during recess.  Karen and Ricky exchange plastic spider rings. Oh God I don’t care about Ricky and Karen’s stupid wedding. I liked Stephanie and Henry’s wedding on Full House a lot more.  And Ricky actually kisses Karen’s cheek when Audrey says it’s time to kiss the bride as the kids are all ewwww.

In class after recess, Ricky gives Karen an official ” wedding ring” a big plastic blue ring with a stone in it. Karen is all ” I am a wife and Ricky is my husband and we are in love and starry eyed.” Stupid Karen then debates over whether or not to change her name to Karen Torres or Karen Brewer- Torres now that she is married. Karen then decides she is, and always will be, Karen Brewer. Wow this book was gigundo BORING!!!

It is a thank you card that will be going to one of our service men or women, in appreciation of the sacrifices they are making for our country. I wanted to make a patriotic card, but since Eve was writing the message for the inside, I chose a design that reflected that. It is both patriotic and kid-like. (The great shape at the top is made by turning the Top Note die cut 90° and running it through the Big Shot a second time.)

The second card I have to share with you today is one of the blank Valentines that will be sent to the troops. so they have Valentines to send home to their loved ones. It may seem early for Valentines, but when you figure shipping time abroad and back, it’s not too early. I wanted to make something that was not “lumpy,” so it would be easy to mail, as well as something that would be appropriate for a man or women. This is what I came up with:

Below is a fourth century Roman catacomb image of two courageous people who followed their hearts right into the very jaws of death: Heracles and Alcestis. The basic story from Greek mythology (and which Euripides made into a play) goes like this: Through Apollo’s manipulations, the Fates granted Admetus (the male figure who appears below at the right) the opportunity to continue his life if, at the hour of his death, he could find one person—just one!—who loved him sufficiently to take his place in the underworld. Unfortunately, Admetus had no one who loved him to such a limitless degree—loved him to death—not even his parents!

No one, I should say, except Alcestis.

Alcestis is the woman shown on the left below. She loved her husband Admetus so much that she willingly took his place in death, and the Fates, accepting her heart’s sacrifice, promptly dispatched her to the realm of death, to Pluto’s nether regions.

But that’s not the end of the story.

Heracles (depicted at center below), on hearing this powerful tale of Alcestis’s love, risked his own life by descending into Hades in an attempt to rescue Alcestis back from death. Heracles succeeded, and his control of Hades (at least for a brief time) is depicted in the image of him holding Pluto’s three-headed dog, the Cerberus, on a leash and escorting Alcestis to the source of her love, Admetus.

In a sonnet by John Milton to his dead wife (“Methought I saw my late espoused Saint”), Milton refers to both Alcestis (which he spells “Alcestus”) and Heracles (“Jove’s great Son”) in these lines:

Methought I saw my late espoused Saint

Brought to me like Alcestus from the grave,

Who Jove’s great Son to her glad Husband gave,

Rescu’d from death by force though pale and faint.

Why, by the way, of all the things one might depict Heracles as taking from Hades, did the artist choose the dog monster Cerberus? Because Heracles was already associated with Cerberus, and so depicting him with Cerberus would have marked him as Heracles. Heracles had been to Hades more than once. In Heracles’s 12th and final labor, he entered Hades to rescue another famous character, Theseus (the founding king of Athens), and Heracles brought Cerberus up from Hades with him (only briefly, however). Anyway, that’s why Heracles is paired with Cerberus.

Rocky (to Trophy Wife) :  “Honey,  I got you a special present for Valentines Day.”

Trophy Wife: “That’s nice. What did you get?”

Rocky: “No, silly. That’s US Marshals. I always think of you as the Wyatt Earp of our family.”

feel the magic of love again..

Another stellar hollywood  ”A” lister will hit the big screen come february 12 next year. As i am doing my usual stuff checking the www for some latest buzz on my fave celebrity. It came to my attention that there was actually a new Julia Roberts movie with the title ”VALENTINE’S DAY” that will hit the big screen by february next year. I must admit im a closet Julia Roberts Fanatic hehe…

Ever since i watched her spectacular performance in  ”Pretty Woman” by playing the role of a beautiful  hooker name Vivian Ward co-staring the dashing hollywood gigolo Richard Gere as a rich ruthless business man name Edward Lewis who hires a prostitute as an escort and in the process falls madly in love with her. Kinda modern day cinderella finally finding her prince charming on the street of hollywood. And what about that famous ”NOTTING HILL” movie which she’s also been famous for. The world famous Anna Scott who falls inlove on an ordinary bookshop guy with an extra ordinary heart name William Thacker. From the street of hollywood boulevard up to the brit upscale notting hill love find its way..

And who would have forgot the famous Maggie Carpenter and Ike Graham and the famous running shoes in “RUNAWAY BRIDE” always a bride but somehow never made it on saying the word I DO. A country girl next door who doesn’t know what kind of eggs she likes. And then there was the famous Julianne Potter and Micheal Oneal and ofcourse the very famous gay George in the movie  “MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING”. A woman who would stop at nothing just to stop her best friend from marrying someone else. And then there  was George who would do everything that made her realized what true love is really all about. Last but not the least was the “ERIN BROCKOVICH” movie which i totally forgot what it is all about but never the less won her first Oscar Award for a female lead role. From the creator that  brought you the famous ”PRETTY WOMAN” and ”RUNAWAY BRIDE” movies comes another Garry Marshall movie that im pretty sure that would definitely put your mood into valentine’s fever even if its only the month of november simply by watching the teaser trailer which i happen to saw in you tube.  I checked the trailer and i was trilled that it got a whole bunch of famous celebrity on it ofcourse with no less than Julia Roberts itself.

I sure hope that the movie is way much better than the trailer.Okay so i been expecting alot on this movie since its been such a long time since i watched a julia roberts chick flicks movie..

#44 Things I Don't Like

No Christmas lights until after Thanksgiving. I don’t think I’m asking too much here. Christmas is my favorite time of year too, but please,
you’re ruining it.

By the time Christmas is actually here, all of the cheery atmosphere that the decorations bring is tired and boring. We all get sick of looking at it at some point, that’s why we eventually take the stuff down.

Look, there are more militant than I. Some would ask that you wait until December 1st, or that New Year’s Day should be reserved for UnDecking the Halls. I’m giving you from:

After Thanksgiving Dinner – January 9th 2010
(that’s a whole week to recover from New Year’s Eve).

Please just contain your excitement for a little while longer, give the poor turkey his due. Hell, he gave his life for you to have a nice Thanksgiving, the least you can do is keep the next holiday at bay until it’s over.

In the long run, the season will seem more special, everyone will be in a better mood, and most importantly, I won’t have to look at your lights for three months (I know that you’re the same people that will leave your lights up until Valentines day).

Whoo's Your Valentine?

Ok, I know it’s been a while since I have posted.  I apologize but I had been sick AND trying to get ready for the craft fair season.  I have two more major ones coming up!!  WOWsers!  I am going to be busy.

Last night was ANOTHER fabulous shoe box swap with the Stampers By The Sea group!  One of the cutest swaps (in my opinion) was actually done by a demonstrator not in our immediate group but our adopted group!  WOW!!

Anyway, it took me a LONG time to get thinking about Valentine’s Day! The theme of this swap was:  Big Shot, Punch Art or Valentines Day.  I actually combined two of those elements for this card.  Have you ever thought about using the Big Shot as a punch?  Well, the larger red heart is part of the Holiday Windows collection! I used it as a mat for the Whisper White heart.

While I was traveling with my colleagues at the MMSU-SHS Debate Society in our trip home here in Ilocos Norte, they were singing the chorus of the song If Ever You’re In My Arms Again by Peabo Bryson. When they sung it, I joined them in singing the chorus.

Yup, I know the chorus of that song. But ever since I sang it during our travel, it was restored on my mind. There is something in the lyrics or rhythm that made me fall in love with this song. It was something that was called the last song syndrome – what you will sing when you want to sing will be the last song you’ve heard.

Do not get me wrong, but while listening to it, I picture a scene. I’ll not just tell the scene because it is quite personal.

Am I falling* again or is it just me?
