Semenjak dari SMP,kodir sangat menyukai Valentino rossi.sehingga ditiap sudut kamarnya,pasti slalu terpangpang gambar-gambar the doctor….dengan obsesinya yang menggebu-gebu,ia selalau memacu sepeda motornya,baik ke sekolah ataupun ke tempat yang ia tuju…bahkan iapun ,mulai mencoba bermain trek-trekan(balapan liar) bersama dengan teman satu hobinya…karena sering menaang di setiap pertandingan…maka nama kodir pun mulai di kenal di daerahnya.
suatu hari dia melihat spanduk event balap,yang diadakan oleh salah satu merk sepeda motor…dgn gembira iapun memberitahu teman-temannya.dan akhirnya seluruh teman-temannya mendukung agar ia menjadi perwakilan di daerahnya.dan merekapun siap membantu demi majunya perwakilan dari daerah tersebut.
Dengan hati gembira,iapun bergegas pulang.kendak meminta restu dari orang tuanya,karena selama ini si kodir melakukan ba;apan liar tanpa sepengetahuan orang tua..namun di jalan iapun bingung,apakah harus ngomong tatu gabred saja…karena ia takut, tidak mendapay restu dari kedua orangtuanya….sampai di rumahpun sikodir masih blom mau berbicara,yah dengan pertimbangannya tersebut.dan biasa,orng tua selalu berpikiran kolot..yang apa lagi ia tinggal di daerah yang bukan kota besar….satuhari….duahari….tigahari….waktu berjalan,ia hanya mempersiapkan bersama-sama dengan temannya,demi kelancaran pada waktu hari H nya…..akhirnya diapun memutuskan akan berbicara kepada orangtuanya sehari sebelum berangkat menuju lokasi balapan……dan teman-temannya dengan semangat tinggi(coz solideritaslah) selalu always siap sedia,demi sikodir.

Non mi sorprende che Alla domanda “chi sarò da grande?“, proposta dal decimo Rapporto nazionale sulla condizione dell’infanzia e dell’adolescenza presentato da Eurispes e Telefono Azzurro, a bambini tra i 7 e gli 11 anni abbia vuto come risposte: Valentino Rossi (per il 16%) e Belen Rodriguez (8,2%),

Mi sorprende invece che l’1,2% abbia risposto: Fabrizio Corona.

Attenzione: non sono pochi se tenete conto di quante ore appaiono in tv Belen e Valentino.

Mi sorprende e mi preoccupa, perché mi chiedo che cosa abbia da dire il noto personaggio a bambini di quell’età. Luce riflessa di Belen? Forse. Attributi hot? Non credo. I tatuaggi? Può essere.

E allora?

E allora non so rispondere.

Ha fatto qualcosa di importante? Ha vinto qualche premio o competizione? Ha scritto qualcosa di significativo? Ha interpretato qualche ruolo come attore? Non vedo qualità del personaggio che siano da portare ad esempio ai bambini. Non si sa bene nemmeno che mestiere sia quello che fa, quello dell’agente fotografico, intendo, e come faccia ad essere un mestiere che rende tanti soldi.

Ei mi chiedo se TV, telegiornali inclusi, e riviste gossip non abbiano delle grosse responsabilità nel proporre modelli di questo tipo.

E le famiglie? Ah già, non esitono più. Sono io che vivo in un altro mondo.

La Yamaha, che quest’anno si e’ aggiudicata il Motomondiale con Valentino Rossi, ha deciso di smantellare il suo impianto e di trasferirlo in Spagna.

“Mentre in tutto il mondo si celebrano i successi sportivi di Yamaha – scrive la Rsu in un volantino – in Italia l’incapacita’ di un gruppo dirigente che avrebbe dovuto prevedere il mutamento di un mercato, con una seria politica di contenimento dei costi, ha deciso nella maniera piu’ barbara possibile e, senza il ben minimo preavviso, il licenziamento di 67 persone”

Ada yang menarik saat menghadiri undangan Yamaha Indonesia, Minggu siang, pekan lalu. Secara eksplisit petinggi Yamaha, diwakili Bambang Asmarabudi, Manajer Umum Promosi dan Motorsport PT Yamaha Motor Kencana Indonesia, menegaskan marketing era baru wajib menggandeng narablog.

Bambang memandang, narablog menjadi garda depan dalam mengkomunikasikan plus-minus apa saja yang disajikan pabrikan atau produsen. Dibalik pernyataan serius dan mengejutkan itu, sebagian besar dialog berlangsung cair dan penuh canda. Kadang (Yamaha) sedikit menahan nafas, namun sedetik kemudian tersenyum lebar menanggapi narablog yang ceriwis itu.

Tentu saja, saat pertemuan bersejarah antara Yamaha dan narablog yang tergabung dalam Komunitas Blogger Otomotif Indonesia dan Indomotoblog,  segala model kamera digital mengabadikan momen special itu. Jika (mau) menghitung, puluhan foto berbagai angle terekam dalam format digital.

Nah, mengumpulkan yang terserak, jika jeli, kadang membuat kita tergelak. Sesuatu yang lama tersimpan, bisa jadi basi, asal jangan timbul dendam. Ini sebagian foto yang tersimpan dalam kartu memori ponsel saya. Silakan menikmati. 

Banyak cara yangt dilakukan oleh para selebritis MotoGP mengisi waktu lauang di jeda musim ini. Sebelum mereka menunggu persiapan uji coba di Sepang Februari nanti, beberapa pembalap motoGP tampak berada di acara Motocross dei Campioni. Pada acara tersebut tamapak VAlentino Rossi, Marco Simoncelli, Marco Melandri, Passini, Julian Simmon dan beberapa pembalap lain. Valentino Rossi (lahir di Urbino, Italia, 16 Februari 1979; umur 30 tahun) adalah seorang pembalap di balap grandprix motor dunia setelah era Michael Doohan, dengan titel juara dunia di empat kelas yang berbeda yang diraihnya dalam waktu tujuh tahun berkarir.Putra dari mantan pembalap GP 250 cc Graziano Rossi dan Stefania Palma ini memegang banyak rekor dan prestasi yang diraihnya melampaui banyak seniornya. Total pembalap eksentrik ini membukukan 8 gelar juara dunia, sekali di kelas 125cc, sekali di kelas 250cc, dan enam kali di kelas puncak, 500cc dan MotoGP.

Rossi memang dilahirkan untuk menjadi pembalap, Ia tumbuh dilingkungan yang sangat mendukung karirnya. Ayahnya, Graziano Rossi adalah seorang pembalap besar dimasa ’70-an. Otomatis ia besar dilingkungan yang kental atmosfer balap. Ketika anak-anak seusianya asyik dengan mainannya, Rossi bermain dengan motor balap sungguhan di tengah paddock pembalap ternama Luca Cadalora ataupun Loris Reggiani.

Saat pertama bergabung di Gp 500cc bersama tim bekas Doohan, yang dikepalai oleh seorang mekanik handal Australia bernama Jerremy Burgess, suasana paddock sangat terpengaruh perangai Doohan yang temperamental. Semua mekanik dan staff tim tampak serius dan cenderung penuh tekanan. Suasana ini buat Rossi sungguh tak masuk akal, menurutnya ia tak bisa membayangkan membalap tanpa merasa fun, kemudian waktu ia mulai menang, ia bertekad untuk merayakan besar-besaran, menurutnya ia cuma ingin melakukan sesuatu yang baru, menunjukkan emosi memenangkan balap.

Sejak saat itulah, pesta kemenangan jadi ciri khasnya. Tak hanya bersama teman, juga ribuan pendukungnya yang memadati sirkuit. Dengan aksi-aksinya, Rossi bagaikan magnet yang menarik orang untuk menonton GP. Para pecinta GP tentu masih ingat akan aksinya memboncengkan fansnya yang berkostum ayam berkeliling sirkuit, aksinya memboncengkan fans yang berpakaian dokter, ia juga pernah membonceng angka satu raksasa sebagai simbol juara dunia, juga aksi wheelie dan burnout nya yang sudah tak terhitung setiap memperoleh kemenangan. Ia juga kerap memberikan kneepad atau topi nya kepada fansnya dengan melemparnya saat berada di podium. “Valentino itu petarung hebat. Tetapi ia juga tahu kalau kita berada ditengah bisnis hiburan. Jadi ia juga suka menghibur,” kata Burgess.

Julukan Rossi

Dalam perjalanan balapnya rossi kerap berganti julukan dan melakukan hal-hal yang menarik perhatian dan menghibur. Ia beralasan bahwa semuanya itu dilakukan dimulai dengan niat bersenang-senang dan melakukan sesuatu yang lucu.

Rossifumi Julukan Rossi yang diciptakan oleh temannya saat Rossi membalap di kelas 125cc julukan ini tercipta karena Rossi kagum dengan pembalap Jepang yang khas dengan rambut panjangnya, Norick Abe yang saat itu berumur 17 tahun dan dengan gigih bertarung dengan Michael Doohan dan Kevin Scwantz dikelas 500cc, karena nama asli pembalap Jepang itu Norifumi Abe maka Rossi dijuluki Rossifumi.Tahun 2004 Rossi dan Abe sama-sama membela Yamaha berada dalam beda tim namun satu grafis,yaitu dominasi warna biru.Rossi berada di tim Gauloises Fortuna Yamaha Team sedangkan Abe bernaung di Fortuna Gauloises Tech 3 Yamaha Team.

Valentinik Julukan ini berasal dari tokoh kartun Daffy Duck yang menjadi superhero yang di Italia bernama Paperinik. Julukan ini dipakainya pada saat membalap di kelas 250cc.

The Doctor Setelah naik ke kelas 500cc pada musim 2000 Rossi menjuluki dirinya dengan The Doctor karena membalap di kelas 500cc butuh keseriusan dan ia merasa dirinya bukan anak kecil lagi, selain itu ia juga menyukai ide sebagi illmuwan gila dan melakukan eksperimen edan, ia menganggap pantas memakai julukan itu setelah mendapatkan prestasi sebagai juara dunia.”Di balap 500cc kita tidak butuh superhero. Yang kita perlukan cuma tenang, kalem, dan pemikir seperti dokter,”ucapnya. Disamping itu, nama Valentino di Italia kebanyakan digunakan oleh para dokter. Ia juga mulai mengurangi perayaan kemenangan yang dianggapnya sudah tak pantas ia lakukan. “Cukup dengan melambai seperti pembalap lain, lalu malamnya pesta habis-habisan bareng sahabat-sahabat saya.”

Pindah ke Yamaha

pada akhir musim 2003 menjelang musim 2004 Valentino Rossi membuat keputusan yang mengejutkan. Ia memutuskan hijrah dari tim yang dibelanya waktu itu yaitu tim pabrikan Honda, Repsol Honda HRC yang telah mengantarkan dirinya meraih juara dunia 2002 dan 2003 serta membawa Doohan merebut juara dunia 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 juga Alex Criville menjadi juara dunia 1999. Rossi memutuskan meninggalkan tim super tersebut dan memilih bergabung bersama tim Yamaha, yang terakhir meraih juara dunia pada tahun 1992 melalui pembalap Wayne Rainey. Rossi tidak pindah ke tim Yamaha sendirian, ia juga membawa Jerremy Burgess, kepala mekaniknya yang dahulu juga menangani Doohan dan Criville. Mereka melakukan serangkaian tes membenahi teknologi motor Yamaha YZR M1 milik Rossi agar mampu menandingi motor terkuat di MotoGP saat itu, RC211V milik Honda.

Mengenai kepindahannya ini, banyak yang tak mengira dan pesimis ia akan mampu mempertahankan gelar juaranya. Salah satu pernyataan pesimis datang dari Max Biaggi, musuh bebuyutannya mengatakan, “Aku tak menyangka ia pindah ke Yamaha, tapi bagaimanapun juga akan sulit mengalahkan Honda. Bahkan Rossi sendiri kurang optimis ia mampu mempertahankan juara dunianya. “Kami membutuhkan waktu untuk tampil kompetitif, untuk menang pada musim pertama bersama Yamaha jelas sangat sulit”. Tapi ia mementahkan semua pandangan pesimis tersebut. bahkan pada seri pertama musim 2004 di GP Welkom, Afrika Selatan ia mengalahkan Max Biaggi yang mengendari motor Honda, meskipun dengan perlawanan yang sangat ketat, dengan motor yamaha, yang terakhirnaik podium tahun 1992 !! bahkan pada tahun 2004 dan 2005 Rossi menjadi juara dunia bersama Yamaha! dan menjadi pembalap yamaha pertama yang paling banyak juara dalam satu musim (rossi juara 9 kali pada musim 2005)

IERI SERA… Grande vittoria per il varietà di RaiUno “I migliori anni” con Carlo Conti, che con una puntata che ospitava tra gli altri Henry Winkler (il Fonzie di “Happy Days”), Peppino Di Capri, Milva e Nino Frassica ha totalizzato il suo record stagionale di 6,8 milioni di spettatori, superando nettamente l’esordio in chiaro della serie italiana di Canale 5 “I liceali 2″ con Claudia Pandolfi e Giorgio Tirabassi, ferma a 4,6 milioni. Bene il programma di RaiTre “Speciale Sfide” dedicato a Valentino Rossi; ascolti più bassi ma comunque sufficienti per il film thriller di RaiDue “The Manchurian Candidate” con Denzel Washington e Liev Schreiber; partenza fiacca per la nuova edizione del programma di Italia 1 “Mistero” con Enrico Ruggeri; malissimo la prima visione del film western di Rete 4 “L’assassinio di Jesse James per mano del codardo Robert Ford” con Brad Pitt e Casey Affleck, addirittura sotto il milione di spettatori e quasi raggiunta dal programma di La 7 “Niente di personale” con Antonello Piroso, che ha totalizzato 726.000 spettatori (3,82%).

Anche quest’anno di motomondiale si è concluso. Tre campioni del mondo, uno spagnolo nelle 125, Julian Simon, uno Giapponese nella 250 Hiroshi Aoeyama e il solito Valentino Rossi.

L’ultimo mondiale da decidere a Valencia era quello delle 250. Primi giri molto belli, con Simoncelli che parte male, recupera e va in prima posizione, mentre dietro Aoyama fa di tutto per perdere, va lungo, rientra 11esimo (posizione minima per laurearsi campione matematicamente),  e poi rimonta fino alla settima posizione. Intanto Simoncelli cade e non vince neanche l’ultima gara di sempre delle quarto di litro.

Dall’anno prossimo si cambia, si passa alla Moto 2, una di quelle cose che non capisci e che forse non capirai mai. Intendiamoci, maari le gare saranno anche migliori, con più equilibrio e forse spettacolo, ma il regolamento di qualcosa di sportivo dovrebbe essere all’insegna dello sport…

In poche parole le moto saranno 600 derivate di serie, con motori uguali, monogomma, telai simili e soprattutto cambi non estraibili, solo qualche mappatura da scegliere. In pratica nessuno modificherà la moto, e addio alla scuola per il successivo salto di qualità, per la massima serie.
I piloti saranno niente più che piloti, con il rammarico di andare sempre più verso strade già viste con due ruote in più, verso regolamenti sempre più assurdi e con piloti che somigliano sempre più a giocatori di videogame.

Meno male che limitano i costi, ma anche lì coi sarebbe molto da ridire, molti credono che si andrà a spendere di più, esattamente come in MotoGp, dove le limitazione dei motori non solo non si addice a prototipi che in quanto tali necessitano del miglior sviluppo possibile e continuo, ma la spesa e la ricerca sarà da oggi indirizzata all’affidabilità.

Non sarebbe meglio togliere un po’ di elettronic – tranne quella per la sicurezza si intende – limitare le mappature e fare in modo che gli ultimi giri sembrino gli ultimi e non i primi?, con gomme finite e non nuove? Con piloti che sanno sviluppare la moto, gestire il polso destro e non solo piegare e dare gas.

Guardatevi la gara di Phillip Island del 2001, “vecchie” 2 tempi 500cc, altra era, altro spettacolo. Capirete meglio…

If you dont care for it then highly recommend that you stop reading right now.                …Well u have continued, so i presume you have some love for the sport. Allthough i must WARN you. This is abit of a read! So we will see how big a fan you really are.

We all know that the season is over, and the testing has begun. I would like to take a “little” moment to recap what I belive to be some of the happenings that have been throughout the season.

Jorge Lorenzo

Last seasons “Rookie of the Year” has improved. Alltho he has the same DNF (did not finish) statistic as last season (4). But this season he didnt have nearly as many practice/qualify/warmup wrecks as the previous one. Last year he could almost see Jorge doing a spectacular High Side at every event.           So good on you Jorge, you have improved, and you have a Runner up title to prove it with.

This year we saw Jorge putting some serious pressure on his opponents. Especially his team”mate” Valentino Rossi. On a personal view I find this a good thing. Even tho I am a Rossi fan, i also cheer for good racing. And Lorenzo has contributed to some(i usually stay away from this word due to the fact that it has been ruined by underage teenagers) awesome racing this year. I probably dont need to remind you about Catalunya??? Jesus Christ man.. That was the highest point of the season in my opinion. Was it the best one in MotoGP history? Yes and No. Yes, it was the best fight ive seen between to so called teammates. No, not the best fight ive seen. I still think the Laguna Seca race last year between Rossi and Stoner was the biggest thriller. But dont get me started. ( I have to add that there was some good fights between Rossi and Biaggi in the 500cc class aswell).          But yes, Lorenzo… You have evolved pretty fenomenal since you started minicross at the age of 3. And I cant wait to see you battle for next years title, which i know you will. Spaniards has one of the best motorcycle sports interest in the world in my opinion. And i envy you!

Another snag was the re-signing of Lorenzos contract. I personally think he handled it really bad, and openly doubted the Fiat Yamaha Team. Rumor has it that Lorenzos ego had trouble racing in the same team with his biggest competator.

Valentino Rossi

Im not gonna go on and on how brilliant Valentino is. I know it, you know it. And ANYONE who says his not is a stupid fool. Just look at his statistics and re-think your stupid comment about him being lucky, or him having a technical advantage all the time or whatever.

You won us the championship once again Valentino. I admit im beginning to become a little spoiled but who cares. I still get tears everytime you celebrate in one of your  fan-including ways.  Some memorable moments for me is when you walked up Cork screw at Laguna Seca and kissed it. Or the 100th victory banner, but the best one i can remember was when you had a fan dress up like an oldschool doctor and took him for a ride on the track. If i remember correctly that cost you 25000 GBP? Anyway, i cant wait for next season, and the next battle you’re going to have. You always deliver. Rumor has it that he is looking to finish his career on an Italian motogp bike. Gee, I wonder which bike that is… But, he didnt say anything about when, and he is contracted throughout the 2010 season.

Fiat Yamaha Team

Without any doubt the best competative bike this season. They won the constructor championship without any trouble. It can be discussed to why. Some say that when you have Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo in your team then its a slam dunk. But the thing is you dumb sh**s, they wouldnt have won if the bike wasent up for it… So without any doubt, the best competative bike. But there is some trouble stirring up. Jorge didnt want to sign at first, and now Valentino has stated that he does NOT want to see Lorenzo on a M1 for the 2011 season. My guess is that he doesnt want one of his main rivals to ride and win on a bike which he, along with the Fiat Yamaha Team has developed. Because, lets face it… The M1 wasnt superior before Rossi changed from Honda to Yamaha. Infact it wasnt superior for after 2007 season. But thanks to Rossi and Jeremy Burgess the M1 is now the elite.

Casey Stoner and a little Nicky

Casey was his regular psycho self by riding that Ducati like only he can. He gave us quite a scare with that…. illness? Ofcourse American doctors diagnosed him with un-curable diseases and deficinsies. Gave him loads of pills to take, but not giving him the best advice anyone with a brain could. REST! No doubt riding a Moto GP bike is hard, add to that the pressure from employers, sponsors and who i think was the biggest pressuring part, himself. Will sometime cause your body to just say no. No, i wont preform. At the beginning I was happy and excited that Stoner was out sick. I dislike the ducati, its power, its sound… okay, i dont, i love it, but i hate the electronics they have based the bike on. That thing is impossible to ride without that traction control. Its stiff, hard to handle, unstable. The only thing keeping people on is that traction control. Imagine Lorenzo on a Ducati… He would have broken every bone in his body. Ofcourse he still would have ridden it, but it would have destroyed him. Like it almost did Marco Melandri… He was lucky that he could ride this season, and the Hayate Racing team has done a great job up to the point where there was no more developing on the bike. (Which was just after the last testing??)     But ye, back to the case(y). After the second absent race i started missing him. He makes magic with that bike, and its a dream to watch. Rumor has it that the 2010 prototype of the Desmosedici is working absolutly great, which means the new traction control is awesome. So we are in for a treat next season aswell.

Im sorry Nicky, you dont get any bold name or a picture. This due to the fact that you havent delivered at all this season. Driving good on a track is one thing, but only driving good on your favourite tracks isnt good enough. (which are 3? 2 of them in the states? Americans…) It just proves to show that it isnt just the bikes fault.

It should be mentioned that the way a contract signing used to be is that you signed for 3 or 4 seasons. Season 1 is used to show that you have promise on the bike, maybe a podium or pole or first row, but thats only a bonus. Its expected to start grabing some podiums in season 2, you have had a season to get comfy with the bike, now its time to perfect it. In season 3 you have to win the championship. Ofcourse this doesnt apply to the sattelite teams, but the factory ones used this template.  But if you show NO promise, which i belive you havent, then you are sacked…

Repsol Honda Team + riders

The Honda has underpreformed ever since Nickys championship year. I think they used the 2009 chassie for 3(?) races. Bad execution, bad planing bad season. Well, you got a third, but thats with Casey out sick and a cold tire at Valencia. Dani didnt exactly get any advantages by falling off and weighing 3 and a half kilo sustaining injuires on his existing injuries. Andrea has kind off preformed as expected.

Say goodbye to:

James Toseland; Sorry mate, you were very promising, but after the nasty fall at Jerez testing, I think you got of to a bad start which kept with you throughout the season. Good luck in Superbike man!

Tony Elias; Finally!! Get out! You underpreform every season, and only show promise at the end. Usually you do dumb mistakes. Crashes, drive ons, cutting the course. Its finally over and i wish you luck in Moto2…

Alex De Angelis; Sorry dude, you have been underpreforming every year except the last half this year. I personally want you to stay and give you 1 more season to see if you could keep up your recent pace. But when you got to go, you got to go.

Gabor Tamaci; As far as i know Scot Racing is not going to compete in the premiere class next year, but rather have a go in Moto2. Bye Gabor, you didnt show us much.

Chris Vermeulen; Bye chris. Im not gonna miss your stupid grid hat. Im sorry mate but you cant win a championship as a “rain-specialist”… Alltho i think you have 1 victory in wet which was ages ago? You can put some blame on Suzuki, theyve delivered crappy Motogp bikes for a while now. But Loris have gotten a few decent standings, and hasent had a heart-attack due to age yet so, you gotta’ goooooooo (not refering to yamaha by writing goooooo)

Canepa; Didnt see you much, so not gonna miss you.

Im not too sad about their exit, because i feel they are replaced with MUCH HOTTER PROSPECTS!!

Say Hello to:

Hiroshi Aoyama; 250cc World Champion, asian, has a name simular to Hiro in Heroes YATTA! Whats not to like???  Gonna ride for Emmi Caffé Latte Team. Which is a sattelite team using the Honda RC212V bike. Ive missed a real asian contender in Motogp for ages. The last japanese prospect was Daijiro, may he rest in peace!! Hiro YATTA will be followed closely next season.

Alvaro Bautista; Another hot prospect, please understand me right. They are all good, but are prospects for motogp entry. He is going to ride for Rizla Suzuki. Good choice, bad choice, I hope for his sake that Suzuki can deliver something that is competative the whole season.

Héctor Barberá; Has always been fast, and i wanted him up to motogp last year. He is going to ride for his current team. Team Aspar are moving up to the premiere class, and are racing customer ducati bikes with modifications ofcourse. Had he been moved up last season like i wanted he wouldnt have sustained that insane crash with Simoncelli.

Marco Simoncelli; Former champion, fast, italian and great hair. He is joining with the San Carlo Gresini Honda Team. Which is a semi factory team with potential for podiums. I think replacing Tony Elias with Marco was a great move for Gresini Honda.

Ben Spies; American… well, he seems extremely smart, and humble. Qualities you dont really find much in most americans. Had a go in Valencia which was over all expectations. He is joining the Monster Tech 3 Yamaha Team, which is the most promising team for success after the big boys in my oppinion.

Next season predictions:

I think we will have an even tighter title fight next year. Casey is on point and hopefully unstressed, Valentino is a God, Lorenzo is insane and Dani is… lightweight? No doubt its gonna be a season depending on good bikes. Bad setup equals bad top 4. Im looking forward to next season, the drama, the overtakes, highsides, tire damage and crashes. But im also hoping and looking forward to the “new bloods” All of the new comers are champions and are Motogp championship material. HOPEFULLY they all will have competative bikes. What a race we would have seen then. 8 people really gunning for it?! My heart cant take it. Not to mention that we also have Mika Kalio AND Ben Spies who are able and ready to give it their all in 2010.

Today’s Armistice Day in France and hence a bank holiday. It’s also the designated day for my longer ride, anywhere between 100 and 150km. The weather today was sunny but decidedly chilly. Indeed, the mountains behind the coast already have a liberal dusting of snow. I decided to head off to Grasse via Sophia Antipolis, the coast’s Silicon Valley which affords some undulating terrain, returning by way of Pre du Lac.

While I was riding I was mulling over a recent news story. Allegedly, Astana are offering Alberto Contador a contract worth Euros 8 million per annum if he signs up for another 4 years. This is double what he’s allegedly requested for next year’s contract. No word from Contador, who’s on holiday in Curacao, as the negotiations are being handled by his brother and manager, Fran who denies the claims. So I was thinking does Euros 8 million (US$12 million) seem like an excessive amount of money for a multiple Tour Winner or not?

By comparison with other sports, it’s not, but there’s one big difference. The fans don’t pay to watch live cycling. I accept they may pay to watch cycling on the internet or on cable or satellite tv but this money goes to the tv stations, event owners and organisers, not the owners of the cycling teams.  

So let’s put this in perspective. Tiger Woods, the best paid (and probably the best known) sportsman in the world picks up around US$100-128 million pa; approximately 80% endorsements and 20% Tour earnings. But Tiger isn’t paid a salary, nor is golf a dangerous sport. So maybe an F1 driver or Moto GP rider would be a more appropriate comparison. During the same period, it appears Alonso earned US$35 million and Rossi US$30 million. On that basis US$ 12 million doesn’t seem excessive. After all, Contador is only worth what someone is willing to pay him.

Back home I discovered that my beloved had left for a 10-day trip without his gout medication. That man would forget his head if were not attached to his body. I then sat down to start ploughing through the rather large amount of work I seem to have picked up over the last couple of weeks. Jobs are just like buses, they tend to come along in twos and threes.

When someone asked me what I wanted to talk about on Monday evening at the coffee shop, and I replied, “MOTORCYCLES”, I had no idea I’d find myself in the pitlane at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit the next morning for Day 2 of the 2010 season testing. Spontaneous is my middle name, but sometimes the universe moves faster than I can fathom.

For 5 hours, I watched Rossi, Lorenzo, Hayden, Spies, Pedrosa, Capirossi, and the other boys run hundreds of total laps around a gorgeous track in perfect weather. The climate here is no less glorious than my home in Southern California, but without the smog, it is certainly another country.

The guys were on form for sure, with Hayden pulling a power wheelie and mugging for the cameras as he passed us. Gotta love the Kentucky Kid.

Rossi was wearing the crazy chicken helmet. Never ceases to amuse. After the test, I hung around to listen to his interviews, because I was in heaven that I could actually watch him give them in person, as opposed to watching on MotoGP.com today.

Lorenzo ran an impressive number of laps, clocking the fastest lap time of the day at 1:31.939, followed by Stoner, Rossi, the impressive newbie Ben Spies, and Hayden at a speedy 1:32.981.

I couldn’t have asked for a more magical birthday week and sure do look forward to next season. Laguna Seca and Indianapolis for sure, hopefully Jerez and Valencia, too. Who’s with me?

Slow in the uptake to this blog, but I’ve just got to write about being in Valencia for the Moto GP. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present than to fly to Spain for a weekend of camping and watching the 2009 championship race of the season. Not only did I get to see Rossi win the championship, but it was fantastic to see Lorenzo on his home track and see the Fiat Yamaha team do so well.

Spain is absolutely incredible and the unseasonably warm weather is so much like Los Angeles that my mediocre Spanish is the only constant reminder of my location.

Motorcycling in Spain might as well be the national sport and I’m in love with the 2-wheeled machines on the road here. The selection is awesome. More pictures coming soon.
