This Thanksgiving week, General Motors has officially ceased production of it’s Pontiac brand

This Thanksgiving week, General Motors has officially ceased production of it’s Pontiac brand of vehicles as a result of the bailout by the U.S. government. Not only could the car maker not meet it’s financial obligations but, the fact is that the car’s brand no longer had the appeal it once did and sales were declining.

The last Pontiac G-8 rolled off the assembly line in Orion heading for a fleet order rather than a museum for posterity sake yesterday. http://www.detnews.com/article/20091126/AUTO01/911260411/Pontiac-reaches-end-of-the-line/?imw=Y

http://www.pontiac.com/ has the official closeout information on remaining vehicles for sale with deals as low as o% financing for six years or cash back offers up to $4,500. As a wake up call to anyone buying a car, six years is an absurd amount of time to pay off a car, especially when the warranty ends before you pay it off.

With discount offers like this across most of GM’s product line up, how they are ever going to make money, get out of bankruptcy and away from government ownership is beyond any one’s guess.

Besides the 1000’s of job losses at Pontiac plants, NUMMI the joint venture between GM and Toyota venture looks to be shutting its doors as well. http://www.mercurynews.com/drive/ci_13766495 From the Bureau of Labor Statistics unemployment by state http://www.bls.gov/web/laumstrk.htm is listed. Like the climategate, how true these numbers are is any one’s guess.

I recall the 1978 Pontiac Bonneville that I learned to drive in. What a tank, but it had the radio antennae built into the glass which was pretty cool. In 1982 came the Firebird and was featured on the TV Show Knight Rider. I never owned one, but a lot of my buddies did and it was a girl magnet.

Pontiac Fiero

In 1984, my dad through a mid life crisis or whatever, found the Pontiac Fiero much more in the spirit of things. What a car it was and far removed from anything on the market. The damned things body was made of plastic! We’ll some sort of poly-resin- that when a grocery cart hit it it bounced off with no damage. With no USA steel to give it strength, on impact the car crumbled. Luckily, we never crashed it but traded it it on something or another. Might have been the Cadillac Sedan De Ville with the horrendous 4-6-8 valve engine- another GM disaster.

Our Fiero was hot red in color with every option known to man, including the fabulous sound system from Bose. Nothing like Van Halen screaming at you at ten decibels while driving down the highway. A definite babe magnet of a car. It made you want to live in the fast lane or at least drive in it.

Chief Pontiac, Ottawa Tribe

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Chief Pontiac of the Ottawa Tribe must be glad to know that the spirit of the Pontiac brand of vehicles will go on- in memory at least. He was quoted as saying,

According to a French chronicler, in a second council Pontiac proclaimed:

It is important for us, my brothers, that we exterminate from our lands this nation which seeks only to destroy us. You see as well as I that we can no longer supply our needs, as we have done from our brothers, the French…. Therefore, my brothers, we must all swear their destruction and wait no longer. Nothing prevents us; they are few in numbers, and we can accomplish it. Peckham, Indian Uprising, 119–20; Dixon, Never Come to Peace, 109. via http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_Pontiac#cite_note-8

It didn’t turn out so good for the Indians being forced to reservations, but in the long run some tribes are probably more financially stable than the U.S. government, thanks to good fiscal policy and casino’s.

Ironically enough, the Pontiac Silverdome was sold this month for $583,000 USD to a Toronto, Canadadian businessman. Completed in 1975 as the Pontiac Metropolitan Stadium, at a cost of $55.7 million, the Silverdome seats 80,311. It contains 102 luxury suites and 7,384 club seats. more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_Silverdome

“While still not sure what he’ll ultimately do with the stadium, adjacent fieldhouse and 127 acres of land, Apostolopoulos said he’d like to return it to being a place that hosts football, soccer, hockey and basketball as well as concerts. “People today like sports so we have to keep it for sports events,” he said. “Whatever they like, we’ll do.” But Apostolopoulos said the zoning does allow for the tearing down of the stadium and the building of houses, apartments or almost any other kind of construction.” http://www.thestar.com/sports/article/729769–toronto-developer-snaps-up-vacant-pontiac-silverdome

At less than $5000 USD an acre that was a good deal for any pilgrim.

Yes, my pals, the Lone Eagle Rogue Cougar 13th Apostle Maverick of the Apocolypse herself is heading to the Orange Park Mall. Some say she can be impregnated, and carried to term in one glance by a minor league baseball player. Keep your staches trimmed tight, boys. This is gonna be a tough day in the tiny rodeo village of Orange Park, Florida.

In the beginning, John McCain made a, seemingly, silly choice for his 08′ running mate. Today, hundreds of proud Orange Parkers and Jacksonvillians camp out like lil’ ol’ cow pokes round the lil’ ol’ campfire to catch a lil’ whiff of this legendary viper.

Dude, I know. Making jokes about Sarah Palin is like insisting that Van Halen with Sammy Haggar sucks, which I almost fistfought over one time. It’s painfully obvious. Listening to someone say it kind of hurts in the balls. And besides, How do we know if it’s love?

For real though, I defy you to not have your cawk rawked by “I can’t Drive 55″ or “Heavy Metal.” That’s beside the point.

The point is: Don’t you fucking get in my face and tell me Van Haggar sux. Just don’t do it. Not cuz I think they were great, but because I now think you suck and your brainskills are completely inverse to Eddy’s shred skills, hoe.

I’m not a complete ogreman. Not all incredibly obvious statements bother me. “Dude, this weather is perfect” or “Dude, this icecold Coors Light is better than everything” are both perfectly fine comments. I think the issue might revolve solely around obvious reiterated statements from the movie Airheads.

Is the Orange Park Mall Books-A-Million totally hillarious to anyone else? How is this leggy mom so utterly relatable in all of the USA’s Orange Parks?

Anti-abortion stalwarts of her caliber scare my sperm into ritual suicide or THC comas. Oh bitch. Oh viper.

Do any of the rest of yall Hope-in-08′-Stylized-Fashion-Obama T-Shirt-Buddies feel the buyer’s remorse I do over our fancy new presidente?

This jagoff “community organizer” gets better and better every day at doing the right thing for his career, status quo power players, and business as usual. He creeps farther every day from doing the right thing intrinsically, for humanity, by Jesus, etc.

The motherfucking democrats need to wake up and smell the IEDs. They may be holding the oh-so-appealing chip of standing slightly to the left of center, whereas the former boogymen stood to the right, and that switcheroo is oh so appealing; but BOTH WARS ARE DISGUSTING AND INHUMAN. Since you won, Democrats, the wars are now yours. Now you are disgusting and inhuman.

Let’s see if we can keep em’ going until the 2nd coming of Christ, they’ll totally still be going for the 2012 Mayan Armageddon Hell in the Cell with Kane and Undertaker.

I feel guilt every day for not doing anything to stop the wars and I’m just some loser. I wonder what Barry must feel like.

Thousands of our guys have died in these wars. Tens of thousands have been critically wounded. Not to mention the countless hordes of Iraqi and Afghan dead and fucked up guys, kids, women.

Did anyone else see that one-legged dude riding the segway scooter in the Veterans’ Day Parade?

O vídeo triplicou a venda do disco e ajudou a popularizar a MTV.

Em 1985 ajudou a promover a megacampanha USA for África. A música-tema We Are the word (Nós somos o mundo), composta por Michael Jackson e Lionel Ritchie reuniu 44 cantores da “nata” do pop americano.

Cómo si fuese a ver a Van Halen. O a Tom Petty. O a John Mellencamp. O a Rush.

Vaccination Scar, de In Between Evolution (2004)

So, the chemistry’s set
And I’m not the saddest cheerleader to forget the American word
For the gang in the head
That dwindles to no members when
The mystery’s met
The sky looks threatened, heading home in the dust
Singing “life is for getting
good enough for the frivolous”

One thing I remember is
This tear on your bare shoulder, this
Little silver boulder
This slowly falling star
We’re rolling, so what
Never getting older, where the moon-shocked curtains part
At the start of enough
A tear dropped in a vaccination scar

I’ll tell you if I’m able, that is
I’ll tell you like it is
It went down like a bad card table, like

The Tacoma Narrows Bridge
Like the Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Swimming on a bit
Stop and treading water as the sun assimilated the words
For lighthouse fire
Burning down to embers’ end
The mystery met
The sky just-reddened, heading home under dusk
Is life just forgetting
Another word for frivilous

And little silver boulders
And silence from Mars
For the heart of enough
For a tear dropped in a vaccination scar

Wherever you are
Scar.

Seems like everyone is getting back together these days, whether for money or a shot at career closure; some are actually reinvigorated and creating viable new music. So if you are pining the loss or lethargy of a favorite band or artist, there’s hope.

(Of course, nothing would be better than the three guys in the forefront of this picture sharing a stage again. Maybe if I leave that tooth under my pillow…)

Doesn’t have to be someone on a Van Halen level. For example, Fastball thought they had taken a long enough hiatus and decided to regroup – the result was a great new record. So why not our favorites?

So here’s ten acts right off the top of my head that are dormant; I wish they were making records right now. At least I have the fruits of their labor to date to savor over and over again. If any of these are new to you, please check them out. Maybe it will make you revive a few of your own favorites.

Because that’s the beauty of legacy. It’s right there.

São performances irretocáveis e carregadas de muita energia de clássicos como “Mission Of Love”, “Over The Water”, “Nobody Wins In This War”, “Cowboy And The Ballerina”, “Forever” e um encerramento apoteótico com a maravilhosa “Anything At All”.

The last Van Halen album with the legend that is David Lee Roth on it and also the first hard rock album to use synth’s as a lead instrument. Whether you think this is a good thing or not is a different debate. Jump is massively cheesy but Drop Dead Legs, Top Jimmy and Hot For Teacher are easily some of the best songs Van Halen wrote and are even up there with the best songs of the 80’s – right next to Kim Wilde’s Kids In America

Some weird people in the office think that this is an awful album but they are wrong. Very wrong.

Best song is Hot For Teacher just for the intro.

Where have they all gone? I can’t quite figure it out. If you have any suggestions, please don’t hesitate to share ‘em. Meanwhile, enjoy this little tune, and read the first installment of a serial novel to published EXCLUSIVELY on this site, one paragraph at a time…

Verse / Chorus 1: All my life I’ve never stopped to worry ’bout a thing / Open up and shout it out and never try to sing / Wondering if I’ve done it wrong / Will this depression last for long? / Won’t you tell me, where have all the good times gone?

Verse 2: Once we had an easy ride and always felt the same / Time was on our side and we had everything to gain / This could be like yesterday / Is that me your happy day? /

V/C 3: Ma and pa look back on all the things they used to do / Never had no money and they always told the truth / Daddy didn’t need no little toys / Mommy didn’t need no little boys / Won’t you tell me, where have all the good times gone?

V/C 4: Yesterday was such an easy game for you to play / Ah, but then let’s face it, things are easier today / Yes you need some bringing down / Get your feet back on the ground / Where have all the good times gone?

I.

Early reports of the look of terror on Jim’s face when he was discovered at the end of the street, it turns out, were grossly overstated. Bemusement was a more fitting description, June thought. She thought he looked like he was savoring a funny line from a movie, one of those silly early sixties farces he loved to watch, like the one with Jimmy Stewart that always made him laugh, Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation, or some such nonsense. Hell, she remembered its name, for once.

Jim and June lived together at the end of the hill on Partridge Street, a sloping vista that ended in the far-busier Sloan Road, in a small house with a pointed roof, painted mustard brown for as long as they owned it. Many years had passed since they first shacked up there, in the parlance of the times, which June still used more often than not, but the street had not changed much, except now there seemed to be entire schools of kids pouring out of every yard as soon as the 3:20 bell rang at the local elementary. June’s child had attended school there for a couple of years, as had Jim’s.

For several months, an Asian border named Fu, but who went by Frank, had lived in the small, dark third floor of the house, which Jim had outfitted with a water closet three years ago. It’s a good investment, Jim had told June, It will pay for itself and then some when we go to sell. Every time he mentioned leaving Partridge Street, June crossed her eyes and stuck her tongue out in a gesture that meant, God, when will that ever happen? But they both knew they were there for awhile.

For a year or so, I co-hosted a radio show on WRRG 88.9FM in River Grove with my friend and bass player at the time, Brian. We were charged with spinning local Chicago bands’ records for two hours a week.

When I asked Brian what we should call the show, he immediately said, “Chicocal Locago?”

So stupid it just might work.

Well, we needed a theme song. I’d written and recorded an instrumental tune that I intended to give to my friend Mike Lust for his band, Tight Phantomz. (I imagined it as a combination of his band with Van Halen — “Tight Halen.”) Well, when I played him the demo I’d recorded (with me playing all the parts…) he politely passed.

Biggest mistake that guy ever made. Except for, you know, kicking himself in the head every night as his signature stage move…

Since the song was just lying around collecting dust, and seemed too bouncy for my band at the time, the Grackles, it became the Chicocal Locago Theme Song. Brian and I (and some heavy reverb) laid down some goofy vocals over the beginning. We left the end instrumental to provide some “bed music” for the intro to our show.

Given that the station’s broadcast radius was roughly the same distance I can spit, I’m going to doubt anyone’s ever heard this.
