BUFFALO, N.Y. — Sabres left wing Thomas Vanek missed Buffalo’s game against Pittsburgh on Saturday because of soreness in his stomach/abdominal region.

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff disclosed the injury at the team’s morning skate, but didn’t say how much time Vanek may miss. Vanek’s problem stems from taking pucks to the midsection over the past week.

“He hasn’t been himself the last couple of games,” Ruff said.

Vanek scored his 10th goal of the season in the Sabres’ 5-2 win over Toronto on Friday, tying him with Clarke MacArthur for the team lead.

The two-time 40-goal scorer missed two games earlier this season with an upper-body injury.

Tough guy Patrick Kaleta returned after missing Friday’s game because of a head/neck injury sustained against Ottawa on Wednesday.

MedIdea is represented in the suit by Capshaw & DeRieux, LLP, Parker, Bunt & Ainsworth, P.C., Vanek, Vickers & Masini, P.C., and Eugeme M. Cummings.

ARNOLD

Aufgelegt ist es, ein ABC zur Steiermark mit Arnold beginnen zu lassen. Etymologisch leitet sich dieser männliche Vorname nämlich aus dem althochdeutschen arn, Adler ab. Und dieser fliegende Hochgebirgsjäger findet sich auch in der ersten Zeile der Landeshymne, dem Dachsteinlied, wieder: „Hoch vom Dachstein an, wo der Aar noch haust“, heißt es dort. Das mutet anachronistisch an, so wie die ganze Hymne, die das Steirerland noch bis zur Sav (Save) und Dr(Drau) gehen lässt, also auch die Untersteiermark (Spodnja Štajerska), die seit 1918 zu Slowenien gehört besingt. 2004 wollte man das ändern, tat es aber dann doch nicht. Indessen hat man 2005 den Namen des Sportstadion in Graz Liebenau, die Heimstätte von SK Puntigamer Sturm Graz und dem GAK, geändert. Und zwar von „Arnold Schwarzenegger Stadion“ in „UPC Arena“. Der größten lebenden Arnold aller Zeiten („GRÖLAAZ“), der es vom Panzergrenadier bis zum Gouverneur von Kalifornien brachte, verbat nämlich der Stadt Graz mit seinem Namen zu werben, nachdem sich die Regionalpolitik mit seiner Haltung in punkto Todesstrafe nicht ganz einverstanden zeigte. Da sein Geburtshaus in Thal wahrscheinlich zum ihm gewidmeten Museum wird, dürfte er seiner Heimat mittlerweile wieder verziehen haben. Wo noch Eichen stehn, voll und grün von Saft die kein Sturmwind je noch hat gebeugt antizipiert die dritte Strophe der Landeshymne bereits dieses Politikum, geschrieben übrigens 1844 von Jakob Dirnböck.

Die Grazer Spiele- und Softwareentwickler von Bongfish sind seit 1999 im Geschäft. Einen formidablen Hit landeten sie mit der Snowboard-Simulationsserie „Stoked Rider“, der weltweit an die 600.000 Käufer fand. Ebenfalls seit zehn Jahren im Geschäft ist die SMS-Portal sms.at, gegründet vom Grazer Brüderpaar Martin und Jürgen Pansy. Im weststeirischen Köflach zu verorten sind die vier Mittzwanziger vonCommendo. Sie erhielten im Juli 2009 eine Million Dollar Preisgeld für ein Empfehlungsprogramm, das den Kundenrücklauf des US-Online-Film-Verleihs Netflix (Prinzip: Wenn Ihnen das gefallen hat, gefällt Ihnen vielleicht auf folgendes…) um mehr als 10 Prozent verbessern soll.

COOKS OF GRIND

Seit 2001 kombiniert das zwölfköpfige Kollektiv Kochen mit Aktionskunst. Das geht hart an die Grenze des guten Geschmacks, denn „sie haben schmutzige Gedanken, lausbübischen Witz, ein großes Herz für die Kunst, ein ebensolches für die Lust an der Provokation, keine Furcht davor, das zusammenwachsen zu lassen, was eigentlich nicht zusammengehört“, beschreibt Journalist und Künstler Martin Behr über die Cooks of Grind. Behr selbst ist Gründungsmitglied der Grazer Kunstgruppe G. R. A. M., die er gemeinsam mit Günther Holler-Schuster leitet. Schwerpunkt ist Multimedia-Art.

DIAGONALE

Seit 1998 findet die Diagonale, das Festival des Österreichischen Films in Graz statt, seit geraumer Zeit blickt man aber auch über die Grenzen und zeigt Schienen, die sich mit dem Filmschaffen in Slowenien und anderen Staaten aus dem ehemaligen Ostblock beschäftigen. Diskurs wird also groß geschrieben. So wie bei der Filmreihe agit.DOK die im Forum Stadtpark politische Dokus zeigt und im Anschluss diskutiert. Diskussionen, Vorträge und Workshops gibt es auch beim Festival für moderne Musik Elevate, das seit 2005 im Herbst rund um den Grazer Schlossberg stattfindet. Weitere wichtige steirische Veranstaltungen wären: Das Springfestival(Electronic Art & Music), das GrätzeltreibenLendwirbel, die Hochkulturveranstaltung Styriarte, die eng mit Nikolaus Harnoncourt verbunden ist, oder der steirische herbst, Europas ältestes Festival für moderne Kunst, gegründet von Hanns Koren, dem umtriebigen Uni-Professor, Volkskundler und ÖVP-Politiker.

ERZHERZOG JOHANN

Der Habsburger-Spross starb vor genau 150 Jahren und ist ein steirischer Säulenheiliger und Mythos der im Laufe der Zeit auch zu einem Jodlertext verarbeitet wurde oder als Taufpate für Straßen, Käsesorten oder die Fachhochschule Joanneum herhalten muss. Er galt als sehr volksnah, war am Ende seines Lebens gar Bürgermeister von Stainz und heiratete die Postwerkstochter Anna Plochl aus Bad Aussee, dem geografische Mittelpunkt Österreichs übrigens. Von dort stammen übrigens auch Ulla Weigerstorfer (Miss World 1987, die mittlerweile für Frank Stronach als PR-Lady im Magna Racino arbeitet) und Klaus Maria Brandauer. Obwohl der Erzherzog nur einen Sohn (Franz) hatte, umfasst seine Nachkommenschaft um die tausend Personen. Darunter etwa auch die Familie Harnoncourt, die tief in der Steiermark verwurzelt ist. Musiker Nikolaus kennt man, Bruder Philipp ist ein bedeutender Theologe und Franz Harnoncourt war Vorstandsvorsitzender beim Kaufhausunternehmen Kastner & Öhler. In der Grazer Hauptfiliale des Warenhauses wurde übrigens Österreichs erste Rolltreppe hineingebaut – super!

FÜRSTENFELD

Die südoststeirische Bezirkshauptstadt erlangte traurige Weltberühmtheit in Österreich durch das musikalische Denkmal, das ihr das Gitarrentrio S.T.S. gesetzt hat. Die Steiermark scheint zudem so etwas wie ein Austropop-Nest zu sein. Namedropping gefällig: Stefanie Werger, E. A. V., Opus, Wilfried(Beutesteirer), Boris Bukowski, Alex Rehak, Carl Peyer, aber auch Ludwig Hirsch, der in Weinberg geboren wurde, allerdings in Wien aufwuchs. Definitv keine Austropopschis sind Gustav (Eva Jantschitsch) und Soap & Skin (Anja Plaschg),Son of the Velvet Rat, Killed by 9-Volt Batteries, oder Binder Krieglstein. Beim DuoLuttenberger*Klug und Anna F. (Anna Wappel) wird aber die Zuordnung schon wieder etwas schwieriger, aus der Steiermark kommen sie trotzdem.

GRÜN/WEISS

Das grüne Herz Österreichs, oder die Grüne Marksind geläufige Namen für das Bundesland, von dem ca. 61 Prozent bewaldet sind. Außerdem ist Grün die Flaggenfarbe, neben Weiß übrigens, das auch nicht selten vorkommt. Vor allem im Winter auf Loipen und Schipisten. Die berühmteste davon ist wohl die Planai in Schladming. Dort wird 2013 die Alpine Schi-WM stattfinden, zum zweiten Mal nach 1982 übrigens, bekannt ist der Zielhang, ob des Nachtslaloms, der jedes Jahr im Dezember vor rund 50.000 Besucher stattfindet.

HUMANIC

Die Schuhfirma ist ein Tochterunternehmen der „Leder und Schuh AG“, zu der auch Corti, Jello, Schuh 4 You und Dominici gehören. Mit immerhin 479,5 Mio. Euro Umsatz ist das Grazer Unternehmen der größte Schuhanbieter Europas. Erzrivale Stiefelkönig kommt übrigens ebenfalls aus Graz. Im kollektiven Gedächtnis verankert sind die Werbelinien von Humanic, die mit Unlogik provozierten. Anfang der 80er Jahre traten in diesen Spots etwa H. C Artmann, Gerhard Rühm, Andreas Okopenko, Herwig Seeböck und auch Wolfgang Bauer auf, der den Claim „Übrigens, Sie sind jetzt im Fernsehen“ lässig in die Kamera sagte. Der steirische Autor, Sprachkünstler und Dramatiker, berüchtigt für seine enttarnende Derbheit starb 2005. Bauer war Mitglied der Grazer Autorenversammlung (GAV), zentrale Figur in der Kunstaktionsgemeinschaft Forum Stadtpark und gründete mit den Künstlern Martin Kippenberger und dem Grazer Jörg Schlick, der ebenfalls 2005 starb, die „Lord Jim Loge“. Leitspruch der Verbindung: „Keiner hilft keinem“. Jörg Schlick plante übrigens mit Werner Schwab, neben Bauer der zweite trinkfeste Radikaldramatiker aus Graz, einen Briefroman zu schreiben. Es wurde nichts daraus, weil Schwab die Silvesternacht auf 1994 (4,1 Promille) nicht überlebte.

HEINZ FISCHER

Der achte Bundespräsident von Österreich wurde in Graz geboren und verbringt seine Sommerfrische im Jagdschloss in Mürzsteg, dem traditionellen Sommersitz des Bundespräsidenten. Also urlaubte dort auch bereits Amtsvorgänger Thomas Klestil, den Fischer 2008 posthum für die Präsidenten-Galerie in der Wiener Hofburg porträtieren ließ. Und zwar vom steirischen Künstler Josef Schützenhofer. Originelles Detail am Rande: Der Künstler gestaltete nicht nur die Wahlplakate der KPÖ Steiermark (vier Sitze im Landtag) sondern ist auch Neffe des steirischen ÖVP-Obmanns Hermann Schützenhofer.

INSEL

Was den Wienern ihre – auch künstlich angelegte – Donauinsel, war den Grazern ihre Murinsel. Zumindest im Kulturhauptstadtjahr 2003 erlangte sie als architektonisch auffällige Wegmarke mitten im Fluss, der Graz teilt, internationale Berühmtheit und war 12 Monate lang nicht aus den Hochglanzgazetten wegzudenken. Heute hängt sie stahlseilgesichert immer noch inmitten der Mur. Von Touristen besucht, von Einheimischen eher wenig beachtet.

JELINEK, ELFRIEDE

Die Schriftstellerin und Dramatikerin wuchs in Mürzzuschlag auf, lebt mittlerweile aber in Wien und München. Zu ihr gibt es soviel zu sagen, dass man am Wiener Germanistikinstitut ein eigenes Forschungszentrum eingerichtet hat. Und zwar bereits bevor sie 2004 den Literaturnobelpreis erhielt. Überraschend übrigens. Überraschend hat diesen Peter Rosegger nicht erhalten. Der Bergbauernbub vom Alpl galt 1913 als Favorit für den Preis. Das Komitee entschied sich anders. Zu recht übrigens, denn monarchietreuer Patriotismus, tief verwurzelter Katholizismus und ungebrochene Heimatliebe schwingen in Roseggers Texten stets mit. Trauriger Höhepunkt: Während des Ersten Weltkriegs verfasste der gelernte Schneider Kriegs bejahende Lyrik und Texte. Es bleibt also ein fahler Beigeschmack, gegen die Nazi-Vereinahmung konnte er sich aber trotzdem nicht mehr wehren, da er 1918 in Krieglach, Bezirk Mürzzuschlag, starb.

KERNÖL

Der dunkle Zaubertrank ist eine Vitamin E-Bombe, hilft bei Reizblasen und beugt Prostatabeschwerden vor – so die Fama – und gehört zur steirischen KKKK-Gruppe (Kernöl, Kren, Kukuruz und Käferbohnen). Seit 1996 ist das Öl herkunftsgeschützt, weswegen auf der Flasche „Steirisches Kürbiskernöl g. g. A.“ (geschützte, geografische Angabe) draufstehen sollte, will man echtes Kernöl, von den rund 1.700 zertifizierten Kernölbauern übers Vanilleeis gießen. Steht das nicht drauf, ist es gut möglich, dass sich in der Flasche Importkerne aus China, Russland oder Ungarn befinden. Zudem ist nicht überall Kernöl drinnen, wo ein Kürbis (steir. Plutzer) drauf ist. Ganz sicher nicht etwa bei der Plattform für Kulturarbeit „Kulturinitiative KÜRBIS Wies“, gegründet vom Schriftsteller und Musiker Wolfgang Pollanz, der auch den Kleinverlag „Edition Kürbis“, das Musik-Label Pumpkin Records und die Literaturzeitschrift „Sterz“ initiiert hat.

LENA HOSCHEK

Als pars pro toto für die Kreativszene in Mode und Kunst und Design sei hier die Grazerin Lena Hoschek genannt, die nach einem Praktikum bei Vivienne Westwood eine – eigentlich schon – ziemliche Weltkarriere in der Modebranche hingelegt hat. Extrovertierter 50er und 60er-Jahre-Style, den auch Katy Perry liebt. Gefördert und unterrichtet wird Kreativität in der Steiermark etwa in der renommierten Ortweinschule.

MAKAVA

Zwei Studenten, suchen nach einem Lebenselixier, im argentinischen Nationalgetränk Maté Tee werden sie fündig. Sie verfeinern den Tee, setzen auf Fair-Trade, Bio und Nachhaltigkeit und nennen den Trank Makava. Firmensitz ist fortan in Graz, abgefüllt wird in Kärnten, geliefert mittlerweile auch nach Deutschland und verkauft wurden mittlerweile 500.000 Flaschen von der bitteren Bobo-Gsiff.

NORTHLAND

Der Outdoor-Experte produziert hochwertige Bergsteigermode, hat Shops in über 36 Ländern und wurde 1973 von Gerwalt Pichler gegründet. Seit einigen Jahren produziert das (nach wie vor) Familienunternehmen auch multifunktionale (Sport-)Mode, die im Alltag getragen werden kann. Hauptsächlich von Sport- und Geografiestudenten, manchmal aber auch schon von HipHoppern.

OSTROWSKI, MICHAEL

Charmebolzen, Conferencier, Scherzkeks und kreativer Theatermacher – das ist der in Rottenberg aufgewachsene Michael Ostrowski (eigtl. Stockinger). Er ist einer der treibenden Kreativkräfte beim Schauspielkollektiv Theater im Bahnhof, einer Art Löwingerbühne der Subkultur, die gern mit Trash- und Pop-Ästhetizismen spielt. Zum Ensemble gehören neben Ostrowski u. a. Helmut Köpping, Pia Hierzegger oder Martina Zinner. Die künstlerische Leitung beim Theater im Bahnhof hat Ed Hauswirth inne. Regelmäßig wird auch mit dem Schauspielhaus Graz für Produktionen zusammengearbeitet und gerne werden die Ensemblemitglieder auch für Filmproduktionen engagiert. In Filmen wie „Nacktschnecken“ oder „Contact High“ vom steirischen Regisseur Michael Glawogger etwa oder im Film „Kotsch“ der in Fohnsdorf spielt.

PUNTIGAM

Puntigam ist der 17. und jüngste Grazer Stadtbezirk, 1988 wurde er aus Teilen der Bezirke Straßgang und Gries ausgegliedert. Im 6.900 Einwohner zählende Bezirk findet sich das Puntigamer Brauhaus. Dort wird seit 1478 Bier gebraut, jährlich gehen rund eine Million Hektoliter raus – Österreichrekord. Ebenfalls dort zu finden: Die Landesnervenklinik Sigmund Freud, im Volksmund auch als „Puntigam links“ bezeichnet, „(…) weil Autobahnabfahrt Puntigam und dann links.“ So der Krimi-Autor Wolf Haas in „Das ewige Leben“ (Hoffmann & Campe) und der muss es wissen, da er mit seinem Ermittler Simon Brennereinen waschechten Puntigamer geschaffen hat. Realer ist da schon der Grazer Scherzbold und Schauspieler Martin Puntigam, der seit Jahren auf FM4 sein Satire-Unwesen treibt und als Science-Buster Aufklärungsarbeit in Sachen Physik und Alltag leistet.

Q

Seit Ewigkeiten belagern Gothic-, Metal- und Hardcore-Gestalten sowie unzählige andere verirrte Seelen auf der Suche nach dunkler Heimeligkeit das Q, das selten vor Sonnenaufgang seine Türen schließt. Etwas szeniger und gehaltvoller gibt sich Graz in der Postgarage, im legendären Sub oder im gerade – samt Proberäumen, Clubräumen und Büros für Kulturiitiativen – neu gegründeten KKZ Annenstraße.

ROTOR

Dem bürgerlichen Mainstream wohl mindestens zwei, drei Jahrzehnte voraus ist seit jeher Rotor (http://rotor.mur.at), das seit 1993 agierende Projekt des Künstlerpärchens Anton Lederer und Margarethe Makovez’. Nicht nur wagten sich die beiden mit ihren grenzüberschreitenden Arbeiten, von der EU geförderten Projekten und Kollaborationen schon weit nach Südosteuropa vor als andere noch „Grenze schauen“ gingen, sondern fungierte ihr sich aus dieser Tätigkeit natürlich ergebende internationale Kunst-Netzwerk auch zu einem permanenten kreativen Austausch über die Grenzen hinweg. Herausragend bleibt Rotors Aktion „Land of Human Rights“. Demnächst, im Rahmen des Festivals Steirischer Herbst aktuell: ihr Projekt „Annenviertel. Die Kunst des urbanen Handelns“.

SKULPTURENPARK

Auf dem Gelände der ehemaligen Gartenausstellung zeigt das von Peter Pakesch geleitete Landesmuseum Joanneum im Süden von Graz an die 60 zeitgenössischen Skulpturen primär österreichischer Künstler. Dort u.a. zu sehen: das „Fat Car“ von Kunst-Star Erwin Wurm, welcher wiederum aus Bruck an der Mur stammt.

TURNTABLISM

Kein unbeschriebenes Blatt ist Graz das DJing betreffend. Bereits seit 1997 prägen etwa die Artists von Tiefparterre die Szene, wobei auch schon DJ-Contests gewonnen wurden. Genauso umtriebig sind die Leute von Disko404 oder die Runde rund um Clara Moto und ihre DJ-Workshops.

UNTERWEGER, JACK

Die Steiermark ist auch ein guter Boden für Psychos, Borderliner und Mörder: BriefbomberFranz Fuchs zum Beispiel, Karl Otto Haas, der Nazi-Mörder Aribert Heim oder eben Jack Unterweger. In den 70er Jahren zu lebenslanger Haft verurteilt, begann Unterweger im Gefängnis zu schreiben. Österreichische Schriftsteller und Intellektuelle wie Günther Nenning, Milo Dor und Elfriede Jelinek machten sich für seine Entlassung stark. Als dann Prostituierte in Österreich, Tschechien und den USA ermordet wurden, war der Ofen aber aus und die Sache mit der Resozialisierung ein Stammtischthema.

VANEK, THOMAS

Der österreichische Eishockey-Star Thomas Vanek verbrachte Teile seiner Jugend, ehe er mit 14 in die USA auswanderte, in Graz. Das reicht, um ihn zum Steirer zu machen. So bei Formel-1-Weltmeister Jochen Rindt, der in der Landeshauptstadt bei seinen Großeltern aufwuchs, allerdings als aktiver Sportler in der Schweiz lebte und zeitlebens deutscher Staatsbürger war. Am Österreichring im obersteirischen Spielberg, der mittlerweile Didi Mateschitz gehört hat Rindt allerdings nie gewonnen. Ähnliche kernölchauvinistische Vereinahmung widerfuhr Fußballer Ivica Vastic, der 1998, nach einem Tor bei der WM in Frankreich die Staatsbürgerschaft von der Kronen Zeitung, de facto aber vom Steirer Hans Dichandverliehen bekam. „Ivo, jetzt bist du ein echter Österreicher“ titelte damals das größte Kleinformat der Welt. Beim Leibnitzer Thomas Muster, Inbegriff des Sandplatz-Hacklers und ehemaliger Tennis-Weltranglisten-Erster (ATP), war so etwas nie nötig.

WEINSTRASSE

Straßenrouten die durch ein Weinanbaugebiet gehen, werden landläufig als Weinstraßen bezeichnet. In Wirklichkeit ist das aber ein Tarnname, um Pensionistenbussen und Radtourfamilien zum Saufen in den Buschenschank zu locken. Die südsteirische Weinstraße ist die berühmteste, sie erstreckt sich entlang der österreichisch-slowenischen Grenze. Nicht zu verachten ist auch die Schilcherweinstraße in der Weststeiermark. Der Rosé Wein zählt wie Kernöl zum steirischen Stolz, macht aber in groben Mengen genossen etwas aggressiv – angeblich. Ein großer Freund des Schilcher ist Autor Reinhard P. Gruber, der 1988 die Satire „Schilcher ABC“ veröffentlichte, seinen literarischen Durchbruch schaffte er aber mit der blutrünstigen Heimatsatire „Aus dem Leben Hödlmosers“. Die spielt in Kumpitz, einer Katastralgemeinde von Fohnsdorf, einem traditionellen Bergbauort (Kohle). Teile seiner Jugend verbrachte übrigens Patrick Pulsinger in dieser Ecke im Murtal, aber auch Ex-Burgtheaterdirektor Klaus Bachler oder der 2005 verstorbene Kurier-Kolumnist Herbert Hufnagel, der die gängige Abkürzung wie ULP (Unsere Liebe Post) oder UHBP (Unser Herr Bundespräsident Heinz Fischer) schuf, stammen von dort.

ZIRBENSCHNAPS MIT RED BULL

Derzeit unter Komatrinkern bei Feuerwehrfesten ein sehr beliebtes Mixgetränk. Obgleich der süßbittere Zirbenschnaps im gesamten Alpenbereich hergestellt wird, sind die Steirer auf ihr „Zirberl“ besonders stolz. So wie auf den Mürztaler Didi Mateschitz, der in den 80er Jahren aus einem Thailand-Urlaub das Rezept für Energydrink Red Bull mitbrachte, ein Marketingimperium aufbaute und gegenwärtig auf der Forbes-Liste der Superreichen auf Platz 151 rangiert. Da polarisiert Austrokanadier Frank Stronach, der im steirischen Weiz als Franz Strohsack zur Welt kam ein bisschen mehr. Onkel Frank wanderte in den 50er Jahren nach Kanada aus und gründete dort den Autozulieferer Magna Inc., einen Global Player reinsten Wassers, der 1998 etwa die Steyr Daimler Puch AG übernahm und 2009 nach langem Hin und Her wohl den angeschlagenen Opel-Konzern kaufen wird. Wie Stronachs Koffeinbrause „Frank’s Energy Drink“ mit Zirbenschnaps schmeckt, ist leider nicht überliefert, er wird – obwohl abgefüllt und hergestellt in Oberwaltersdorf (NÖ) – nur in Nordamerika verkauft und hat auf Facebook bereits 310 Fans.

Ryan Miller holds the Sabres Hopes

The Buffalo Sabres have probably suffered more from having their players poached than any other NHL team. They lost Drury to the Rangers, Briere to the Flyers and Campbell to the Hawks over the last three seasons, all of whom have not earned their high salaries in their new homes. After losing this much talent they were forced into overpaying to keep Vanek and probably gave Ryan Miller more than he would have received if the Sabres weren’t already gun shy. In spite of losing $20 million worth of talent the Sabres still have an exciting talented team who should find their way back into the playoffs this season. Last season they came up one win away from making the playoffs in spite of an inconsistent season. This was their second straight missed playoffs after winning the Eastern conference the year previous. Last season if Miller hadn’t gone down with injuries they probably would have won that extra needed game as he finished the season with ten more wins than losses including overtime losses while his back-up Lalime only won 5 out of his 21 decisions. The Sabres have maintained their solid team of Lindy Ruff coaching and Darcy Regier as GM. They have kept Buffalo a fast skating, exciting team to watch built with talented character players. Hopefully Icethetics is correct when they postulate that the Sabres will be migrating back to their classic jerseys. The slug jersey of the last few years is despicable and should be burned.

Reason for Hope: Ryan Miller has proven himself one of the most consistently strong goaltenders in the league who had an excellent year last season before getting injured. The Sbares also boast one of the most exciting group of forwards in the league. Led by Derek Roy, Thomas Vanek and Jason Pomminville the Sabres boast an array of talented scorers. Tim Connolly has battled injuries for the last few years but if he stays healthy he should be able to rack up at least a point a game. The Sabres have also grabbed mike Grier to boost the strength of their third line. I have found the Sabres to be an exciting and fun team to watch for years and I expect to see them bounce back from just missing the playoffs.
What Could Go Wrong? : The Sabres defense has some big question marks. They have lost their spiritual leader in Teppo Numminen and the underrated Jaroslav Spacek. To replace them they have added Steve Montador a journeyman, Joe diPenta a fringe NHLér and Tyler Myers a hugely talented 19 year old monster. At 6′8″ it is expected Myers will be a dominant NHL defenseman but those years are still in the future. The talent on the point is expected to come from Toni Lydman, Henrik Tallinder and Craig Rivet. All capable players but none of them studs.
Prediction: 8th in the Eastern conference. Actually I expect the Sabres to be somewhere in the 6 to 10 slot for the East but it is near impossible to nail down who should go where. With the Sens, Leafs and Canadians all going through major changes I expect the division to be very unpredictable. With little changes it is possible the Sabres could feast on these divisional opponents enough to make the playoffs.

Milý Brouku,

konečně jsme dostali od Iluš Tvoji adresu a konečně se také dostávám k tomu, abych Ti napsal. Tak jsem se až trochu toho psaní bál. Lyon a všechno, co jsme tam prožívali, se mi vrací, ale už je to jiné, už to není špinavá bída fabriky a věčné počítání usmolených franků, ale je to zase ta sladká Francie se svým bohatým a pestrým životem, procházky v údolí Saony a hospody, kde se na všechno zapomíná u dobré skleničky, ta věčně zalévaná naděje na lepší zítřek a smutek loučení s drahými včerejšky. My jsme v Kanadě a Ty v Austrálii a myslím, že je to obojí stejné. Je zde všechno, co si jen přeješ, ale schází tomu mech a plíseň staré evropské kultury. V kostelech jsou záchody, výtahy a šatny, jídlo má příchuť spolehlivé desinfekce a hospody jsou smutná místa pro ještě smutnější hosty, kde se počítají láhve jako v pivovarské expedici. Lidé jsou moc bohatí a žijí v dobrých domech, mají překrásné automobily a utrácejí peníze mnoha způsoby, ale žádný z nich nestojí za to, co stojí. Chudobní lidé jako my se honí celé dny, bydlí také moc dobře, mají lacinější automobily (kromě právě přišlých emigrantů) – zkrátka je to taková komfortní otrava. Země je zde moc hezká, ale všechno hrozně daleko. Když lidé někam jedou, tak se dohadují, lze-li to vozem udělat za dva dny nebo za tři. V radiu slyším denně všechny písničky, které jsme poslouchávali ve Francii – nebo zase v anglickém rozhlasu šlágry, které se podle obliby vysílají třeba dvacetkrát denně. A posloucháš-li nějakou vážnější hudbu, riskuješ, že během jediné Beethovenovy symfonie to pětkrát přeruší a řeknou Ti, že to nebo ono mýdlo je lepší než ostatní, že firma Lajeunesse prodává nejnovější modely fordek za bezkonkurenční ceny. Ale nakonec si i na to zvykneš a řekneš si, že ten ledničkový komfort je přece lepší než bytová kultura à la usine de Lyon a trpělivě skládáš vydělané dolary do banky, abys si mohl koupit jednoho dne od pana Lajeunesse ten psolední model fordky, nebo ještě lepší ledničku, než máš v bytě. […]

nezlob se na mě, že Ti teprve teď píšu. Měl bych sice všechny důvody, abych se teprve teď vzpamatoval z úžasu nad Tvým posledním dopisem, ale přece si jen myslím, že bys mi to nevěřil, a tak se kajícně přiznávám, že jsem, jak se říká v Praze, „moc kecal a málo psal“ – že jsem tuto sensační novinku trousil po zbývajících světadílech a zcela speciálně po Montrealu a nejbližším okolí. Bylo z toho strašlivé divení, někteří lidé mi to dodnes nevěří – ztratil jsem důvěru mnoha přátel, když jsem jim vážně vykládal, že jsi měl svatbu v kostele před hlavním oltářem. Prosím, ještě mi to potvrď v příštím dopise, abych si trochu spravil pověst. […]

ani nevíš, jakou radost jsi mi způsobil svým dopisem. Cestoval sice dvakrát kolem světa, než jsem ho dostal do rukou, ale hlavně, že došel. […] Překvapil mě Tvůj odjezd tak daleko, ale chápal jsem, že poměry ve Francii jsou takového rázu, že si člověk nemůže vybírat. Tesně před odjezdem do Londýna odjel Frant. Meloun do Mnichova, ač také nevěřil, že se tam dostane, s ním tam odjel red. a spisovatel V. Štědrý, který také vegetoval v Londýně. Měl jsem tedy pevné přesvědčení, že i Ty jsi tam odjel, protože jsem neviděl žádného důvodu, proč bys měl být odmítnut. Nyní mi píšeš, žes marně čekal a nedočkal se. Nechápu podle jakého klíče se tu postupovalo a jaké kvality rozhodovaly. […]

Až do nedávna jsem byl bez zaměstnání a i to, co jsem teď našel, nevím, jak dlouho vydrží. Chápeš proto, že jsem měl hodně osobních starostí a tak přes nejlepší vůli jsem zanechal korespondence, až budu mít lepší náladu. Pravdu máš, že ti chlapi na Západě nechápou, že se musí bojovat proti komunismu také zlepšováním sociálních poměrů a nejen přípravou zbraní a případným jich použitím. K tomuhle patrně dojdou až později, až to zase někde vybuchne a dělníci se ozvou. […]

Zajímají mě Tvé poměry v té nové zemi a zkušenosti, jichž jsi nabyl. Platíš-li téměř polovinu platu na byt – je to hrozný nepoměr a je třeba opravdu se divit, co dělala ta dělnická vláda, když si téhle otázky nevšímala. Měl jsem vždy dojem, že právě tam si počínala nejlépe – a nyní píšeš, že tam není ani soc. pojištění, tak to je hnedle jako v Kanadě, zde také se musíš na všecko pojistit u soukromé pojišťovny. S překvapením jsme vzali s Mílou na vědomí, že ses znovu oženil – domnívali jsme se, že jsi nenávistník žen a najednou píšeš takovéhle věci. Tož, přejeme Vám oba, aby to byl krok šťastný a přispěl k tomu, abyste lépe snášeli všechny útrapy exilu. Ve dvou se to lépe táhne, to říkával už starý Kuděj, patrně měl pravdu. A v těch emigrantských zemích musí pracovat dva, aby se mohlo existovat, to vidíme tady v Kanadě zcela jasně. Ani my se zde s nikým nescházíme, krajané jsou živel nám odlehlý, s nimi nás nic nepojí, a s nově přistěhovalými je potíž, každý tady se brzy nakazí horečkou získat rychle peníze, že se snimi nedá o ničem hovořit. To není jako v Paříži, kde byl přece jen kruh lidí, kteří měli jakési společné zájmy. […]

Hrom do police, to byla rána, když přišel Tvůj dopis. Nemohl jsem ani věřit svým očím, že by Bohuslav Brouk psal. […]

Tak tedy bys chtěl vědět něco o nás a o našich mladých. Začněme tím mládím, je to taky útěšnější. Milan je už skorem dva roky učitelem českého jazyka ve vojenské škole v Kalifornii. Je to náhodou nejkrásnější kousek této polokoule vůbec, kde je ta jejich škola, mají tam od armády vilku se třemi pokoji jako je to v Americe zvykem (a se zahrádkou ovšem), pěstují angorského kocoura Frantíka, který jim dělá starosti, protože když přijde jeho čas, toulá se celé noci za slečnama jako Brouk a potom má kruhy pod očima, jak tvrdí Martička. […]

Tož to máš povšechný referát o nás. Snad bych dodal ještě to, že mě překvapil Tvůj opovržlivý názor na anglosaský způsob života, ale ten termín se mi nezdá. Američani nejsou také nic jiného než Anglosasové a přece žijí docela jinak. Snad bys měl spíše říkat anglický, ostrovní způsob života – to je ovšem hrůza nejhrůzovatější. […] Američani jsou docela jiní, veselí, družní, poživační, neukáznění, stejně nevzdělaní jako Angličani, ale nedělají ze sebe intelektuály – no, ti by se Ti líbili. Už proto, jak dovedou chlastat, ale vesele chlastat v houfu, ne o samotě zarputile a krutě jako Angličani. […]

[…] S dr. Broukem jsem se poznala v roce 1962 při své návštěvě Londýna, dostala jsem totiž povolení navštívit svoji sestru Libuši, která se zotavovala z mozkové příhody (aneurisma), která ji postihla, když jí bylo 39 let. Do té doby jsme vůbec nevěděli, za koho se Libuše provdala, nikdy to nenapsala, dokonce se po své svatbě na dlouhá léta odmlčela. Měla bych snad vysvětlit, proč o něm mluvím jako o Broukovi, ale každý, kdo ho jen trochu důvěrněji znal, mu říkal Brouku, protože své křestní jméno nenáviděl a zakazoval si, aby někdo jeho křestní jméno vyslovoval. On, bezvěrec, a Bohuslav. […] Naše setkání bylo pro nás oba osudové, ale bez vyhlídek. On morálně vázán k Libuši, která se vlastně nikdy už nezotavila ze své nemoci, a já, vdaná s dcerou Renatou, žijící v Praze. Byli jsme tedy odkázáni na dopisování a jeho dopisy po celá ta léta byly plné smutku, beznaděje a roztrpčení. Tak jak jsem ho poznala za své dvouměsíční návštěvy, udivoval mne svými obrovskými vědomostmi, důkladnými znalostmi na poli kulturním i politickém. Znal každého, kdo v kultuře nebo politice něco znamenal. Měl ohromnou paměť a myslím, že byla velká škoda, že nenapsal něco o lidech, s kterými se v životě setkal. Jsem si jista, že by to nebylo nic lichotivého, věděl, jak si dělat nepřátele, ale jistě by to bylo zajímavé. Z básníků si nejvíce vážil Seiferta, Holana, Závady, osobně měl rád Hrubína a Biebla, který byl vlastně jeho švagr a seznámil ho s Áťou, měl za ženu její starší sestru Marii. Při mé návštěvě mě žádal, abych se pokusila spojit s Hrubínem, že by si sním rád dopisoval. Napsala jsem panu Hrubínovi dopis, ale nikdy neodpověděl. Těžce nesl, že se Nezval ve svých pamětech o něm nikdy nezmínil, ač byli po léta velice důvěrní přátelé. Dostal se do této společnosti mnohem starších lidí už v devatenácti letech, vždy říkával, že s mladými lidmi si neměl co říci. V té době se také seznámil s paní Toyen (paní Toyen je malířka, která snad ještě žije v Paříži), byla to po dlouhá léta jeho velká láska, ač byla o mnoho let starší. Měl rád Teigeho, nikdy neměl rád Hoffmeistra. Měl [Adolf Hoffmeister – pozn. Viktor A. Debnár] prý vždy plnou pusu socialismu, ale svého šoféra nechával mrznout až do ranních hodin ve voze, aby ho pak odvezl z některého pražského baru domů. V debatách vždy opovrhoval pracující třídou, ale když byl za války nucen „jako“ pracovat v Bílé labuti, všichni zaměstnanci ho měli raději než jeho bratra Jaroslava. Byl introvert, těžký cholerik a svým cynismem zakrýval svoji tak lehce zranitelnou povahu. Byl útočný, napadal každého ve svém okolí, ale vždy zpříma, nikdy zákeřně. […]

Hecht und Vanek keine Erfolgsbringer für Buffalo

Die Tore stimmten, aber Thomas Vanek fehlten 20 Punkte in der vergangenen Saison zu seiner Karriere-Bestleistung aus 2006-07.

Die Phrasen von Thomas Vanek und Jochen Hecht klingen fast einstudiert. Die interne Analyse der Buffalo Sabres nach einer weiteren enttäuschenden Saison muss eindeutig ausgefallen sein: Ihr seid kein Playoff-Team.

Buffalo hat eine echte Spaßmannschaft, die auch nach den Weggängen von Chris Drury, Daniel Briere und Martin Biron noch intakt scheint. Doch die “Konstanz” ging mit den besagten Namen, die Konstanz eines Kapitäns, eines Erstlinien-Stürmers und eines Ersatztorhüters. Genau diese drei Positionen fehlten des Sabres im vergangenen Jahr und dem davor, um die Runde der letzten 16 zu erreichen.

Es reichten kleine Dinge, um das ach so intakte Team aus dem Leistungsbereich auf die Verliererstraße zu bringen. Craig Rivet, der 23. Kapitän (zugleich die Rückennummer vom Ex-Kapitän Chris Drury) der Buffalo Sabres, fehlte dem Team in 19 Spielen der ersten Saisonhälfte. Der zitierte Star-Flügelspieler Thomas Vanek verpasste im Februar und März neun Spiele durch eine Verletzung. Im gleichen Zeitraum fehlte der Star-Torhüter Ryan Miller weitere 13 Spiele, ebenfalls durch eine Verletzung. Drei Stützen brachen weg und schon verfiel ein “intaktes” Team in Inkonstanz.

Jochen Hecht hätte als altgedienter Buffalo-Führungsspieler die Lücke des robusten Defensiv-Verteidigers Rivet auffangen können – doch er war überfordert, lieferte seine schlechteste NHL-Saison seiner Karriere ab. Patrick Lalime sollte als erfahrener Torhüter Millers Verletzung abpuffern – jedoch kassierte er in 24 Einsätzen mehr als drei Gegentore pro Spiel und gewann nur fünf Spiele, bei 13 Niederlagen. Jason Pominville müsste als sicherer Punktelieferant die Eiszeit von Vanek in effektives Spiel umsetzen – aber auch er fand nicht zu sich, spielte die schlechteste seiner ersten drei vollen Spielzeiten.

Buffalo holte 2007 die “Presidents Trophy” als bestes NHL-Team, verpasste den großen Preis am Ende nur knapp. Danach verließen Drury, Briere und Biron eine spielerische atemberaubende Mannschaft, die sich bestens verstanden hat. Verstehen tun sich die heutigen Büffel immer noch. Aber der Spielwitz, die Geschwindigkeit und damit der Erfolg sind weg.

Diesen Mißerfolg haben die beiden deutschsprachigen Spieler, die mit acht und fast vier Millionen Dollar die beiden teuersten Spieler in Buffalo waren, maßgeblich mitzutragen.

The Buffalo Sabres are 4 points out of a playoff spot and currently sit in 10th in the Eastern Conference of the NHL.  According to this test, the team has a 37% chance of making the playoffs.  The good news is no one is chasing them in the standings, the team is just on the outside looking in. Out of the teams ahead of the Sabres:

• Pittsburgh and Carolina are the only hot ones
• Florida, NYR and Montreal are all on thin ice. Their collective confidence and recent form has not been stellar to say the least.  Average at best could sum up their play of late.
• The pressure is on an underachieving young team in Montreal. Goaltending is n/a there as well. We predict they crack.
• Buffalo has a game in hand on the ‘Canes the current 8th spot holder.

The key is the next 9 games for the team.  By April 1st, the team will know if they are in the playoffs or not.

Getting Vanek back from injury is like adding a player at the trade deadline. Adding Dominic Moore was only a depth move and he’s not being asked to save this team like he was in Toronto. All the Buffalo Sabres need is the D to hold them in games and the offense will come thru. The Sabres have got too many weapons on the O, so the goals and good results will come. With so many games against the teams they are in the mix with, it is imperative not to let the games end in ties or shootouts therefore giving those teams points. The Sabres need wins in regulation to secure a playoff berth! Especially in the next nine games!

An uphill battle but not impossible.  Sabres in the playoffs? Is that an April Fool’s joke?  We’ll see.  We believe its not.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Sabres all-star Thomas Vanek will be sidelined three to four weeks after having surgery Sunday to repair a fractured jaw.

Vanek, whose 32 goals ranks third in the league, was hurt in the first period Saturday night in Ottawa after being struck in the face by a slapshot by Senators defenceman Anton Volchenkov.

The Austrian native clutched his bloodied mouth and immediately skated off the ice and into the Sabres dressing room.

“He was in a lot of pain,” Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said after the game. “The teeth got pushed up a little bit.”

The injury comes just as the Sabres appear to be hitting their stride. They’ve won two of their last three, and are 11-5-1 in their last 17 games to move into seventh place in the Eastern Conference, three points ahead of eighth-place Carolina.

Vanek had played in a team-high 225 consecutive games. The four-year pro has only missed one regular season game since the Sabres selected him with the fifth overall pick in 2003, and that was when he was a healthy scratch against Toronto in April 2006 during his rookie year.

Vanek is the second Sabres player in the last month to miss time because of a jaw injury. Defenceman Teppo Numminen missed six games because of a small bone fracture in his jaw sustained Jan. 17 against Carolina. Numminen was struck by a shot by Hurricanes defenceman Tim Gleason.

The 25-year-old Vanek was the first player in the league to score 20 goals this season and was on pace to eclipse his career-high of 43 goals scored in 2006-07. He notched his fifth career hat trick, and fourth natural hat trick, in Wednesday’s win against Toronto, becoming just the second player in NHL history to have four consecutive natural hat tricks.

Cy Denneny of the old Ottawa Senators was the other, accomplishing the feat during a 14-month period that began in February 1923.

Scott Clemmensen had the night off which left the net minding to the veteran Kevin Weekes.Weekes did not have one of his best games, he let to many rebounds out from his controll and right to the oposition and an open net.

The scoring got started early by the legues leading goal scorer Thomas Vanek, at 1:10 into first period Jochen Hecht took the puck behind the net andslid the puck through 2 Devils defensemen and Kevin Weekes and there was Thomas Vanek sitting in the corner of the net and he cashed it in for his 23 of the year.

The Devils had there chances in the 1st they just could not capitlize like when Bobby Holik took a chance at a wrap around but Patrick Lalime was there to rob him of his first of the year, Holik would not go quitely.The Devil came out rolling in the 2nd period, 0:58 seconds into the 2nd Colin White took the puck for Weekes from behind the net and passed it up passed the blue line to Brian Gionta who took the puck into the offensive zone and then droped the puck for Patrik elias who took a snap shot to the far upper post and burried it, for his 13 of the year.

Bobby Holik would get revenge from his chance before.Michael Rupp passed the puck upp to the center of the ice to Bobbly Holik who gave it to David Clarckson who entered the zone, Clarckson gave it back to Holik who to a wrist shot over the right leg pad of  Patrick Lalime for his 1st of the year and his 199th of his carrerr.That would e the closest thing the devils got to a W.

Six minutes later the Sabers would score again and never look back , Johnny Odoya toom a tripping penalty wich gave the Sabera a power play. Nathan Gerbe  took a sharp angled shot that deflected off the leg pad of Weekes and right to the goal hanging Drew Stafford  who put it home fro his 6th of the season.

This tied it up at 2-2, Jaroslav Spacek  passed the puck to Derek Roy  who passed it back Spacek passed it back again to Derek Roy  who put it home, it looked like Weekes was expecting a diffrent pass which left a wide open net for him to shoot at this was his 9th of the year. This play broke the tie in the game, it was a contoversial powerplay goal, the call for the tripping penalty on Patrik Elias could’ve gone either way, Coach Sutter had some words to say on the penalty, “There was nothing else called all night. Whether it’s questionable or not, I don’t know,” Sutter said. “There were other things that weren’t called all night. I’m not saying it wasn’t a penalty, I’m not saying it was. I’m just saying under the circumstances, I guess it probably was.”

Thomas Vanek took a pass from derek Roy who passed it to Vanek who was wide open in the slot .Vanek took a snap shot high glove side for his 24th of the year. This would ice the game for the Sabers .

Game Notes: Bobby Holik scored his first goal as a devils since April 1, 2002.

The Devils did not have a power play for the first time since Nov. 10, 2007

Colin White who assisted on Elia’s goal now has 99 carrerr points.

Last night, well, last night was not very good.   Let’s take a look at the stat sheet from the Sabres game against the suddenly surging Columbus Blue Jackets

So yeah,  last night’s +/- leaders for your Buffalo Sabres were Adam Mair and Andrew Peters with a 0 rating.  That is, well, it is good new for Andrew Peters fans, right?

Seriously though, the Sabres were short handed a mere three times while giving up 6 goals!?!?   The Blue Jackets on the other hand were victims of 9 penalties while Buffalo capitalized only only one opportunity.   That sucks, then again, it is better than no goals.

Are the Sabres this bad?  Of course not.  Are the Sabres as good as the 6-0-2 record that they started the season with?  No way.  The truth is this team falls somewhere in between the two.   The very same team that will face last season’s Eastern Conference Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Penguins are led by Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby.  The two Pittsburgh stars have combined for 47 points so far this season.   Buffalo’s leading scorer, as of today, is Thomas Vanek with 15 points.  Oh, and to rub a little bit of salt in the wound,  Miroslav Satan leads all Penguin goal scores with 8.

Hey, at least Miller is starting tonight, right?   Face off is at 7:30 from Mellon Arena.

TORONTO — Buffalo Sabres left-winger Thomas Vanek was named NHL first star of the week Monday.

He picked up eight points (six goals, two assists) in four games last week, helping Buffalo to a 3-0-1 record over the stretch. Vanek has nine points (7-2) in his first five games and is off to the best start of his four-year career.

Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom was named second star and Dallas Stars rookie left-winger Fabian Brunnstrom was the third star.

Backstrom posted a 3-0-0 record with a 1.30 goals-against average, .952 save percentage and one shutout last week as the Wild won three consecutive road games.

Brunnstrom scored a hat trick last Wednesday against Nashville to become just the third player in league history to score three times in his NHL debut.

Alex Smart scored three times in his debut for Montreal in 1943 and Real Cloutier matched the feat with Quebec in 1979.

Brunnstrom also scored a power-play goal against Colorado on Saturday.

Given that we tend to not do well in Atlanta (we’ve lost the past 3 times in the land of nothing good that I can think of…PEACHES) I’m not sure how the sabres will be tonights game…then again, we’ve never had Laaaalleeeeeeeee in goal in Atlanta.

I’ve got to say, I’m not too upset about not winning in the shoot out, I don’t have much of a hope for Sabres and Shoot Outs, after last year, where we won hardly any.  I hate shoot outs with the Sabres (Love them with the oil) but when it comes to Buffalo…there’s no hope for me with shootouts.

Sabres top one of the best teams in the league at 5-2.  It was nice to hear from Big Bear Bernier again, I miss him so…but, as to all players who leave Buffalo (and therefore, making them a traitor) they certainly got what they deserved.  Two traitors, well, only two goals then.  Sucks to be you.

Astro was downright astronomical, one goal and one assist, woohooo!  3rd Star, you deserve it!

Kotaaaaaaa! Two goals, man oh man, my Czech jumbotron lover!

Vanity!  If you were anything but vain today, that was YOUR net…why. because you’re THE BEST…aw…Vanity.

But, the best of the night, regardless of who’s ’stars’ say so

Broad Leafed- Ferny!  putting his lanky and robust fronds to good use and keeping every goddamn puck out of the net and in the game.  2 out of 25 shots?  Well to do Math…that’s 92% save percentage…mmmm…Delicious.

The way I see it, the Sabres BURIED one of the best teams in the league, who beat THE best team in the league, D-Troit.  This makes us the best team in the league :]

I think it’s important to realize that we were confident, though.  Without Luongo in the net, It’s easy to assert dominance over the opposition.  Luongo is scary in all his little tiny, adorable glory.  (…ok…he’s 6′3″…not so little tiny, but still adorable).   Sanford, is not so scary.  It’s like a tiger to a ravenous school of minnows…

And wouldn’t you know? the Oilers game just ended.

Well nothing else is new with Shelly getting hurt, his poor shoulder just had surgery, I’m wondering how the prognosis will be.  And the poor Samcicle!  He’s never hurt!  What of the kid line now?  It’s like a soap opera, i guess we’ll all be tuning in tomorrow night for  the latest news on what’s to happen.  I hope prognoses are good! (knowing our luck…it’s been good…knock on wood but it’s not good forevs.)

And if the Kid line was anything but perfect tonight!  Two points to the Kid line with Cogs and Niles.  But If anything was best it had to be….

VISSY!    If a boy was ever more perfect tonight, Vissy’s one goal one assist was a match made in heaven that was out to make a win certain for the boys.  A win that I am oh so happy about.

And Eric Cole?  He was the first star…and as a defenseman with a goal, that’s always special.  And the fact that he got the goal and Shelly didn’t (while Sheldon is known for his BOMB)…Yeah, he deserved that.

What about Delauriers?  It was his first game of the regular season and he was amazing!  For a new kid in the crease (he got one or two games last season and some pre-season time) and a 10% Save percentage…mmmm yummy.

Now, Let’s hope the Flames STILL have no fame tomorrow night…they deserve not one ounce of it.  BOO flames BOOOOO.

CHED is saying the Delaurier was shaky…I have no input until I see the post game video…tonight was a radio night.  A great radio night if you ask me!
