A narrativa é bem simples e não contém nenhum tipo de inovação na linguagem, talvez um tanto &#8220;certinha&#8221; demais. Porém não deixa de prender o espectador.</p>

<p>Before Time (Collectors Edition &#8211; the original studio recording sessions of &#8220;Time Code&#8221; by David Wright &#38; Robert Fox)</p>
<p>This download album gathers the original studio recordings of the momentous Code Indigo album &#8220;Time Code&#8221; as composed by David Wright &#38; Robert Fox. The album includes previously unreleased <a title="instrumental music" href="http://www.admusiconline.com">instrumental music</a> and the original unreleased versions of some of the music to be found on the Time Code album. It is a fascinating insight into the compositional process, showing the original compositions and how they differ from the eventual album release after the input of Dave Massey (rhythms), Louise Eggerton (vocals) and Andy Lobban &#38; Nigel Turner-Heffer (guitars) transformed the Wright/Fox compositions into Code Indigo music.</p>
<p>The music on &#8220;Before Time&#8221; was recorded live and edited afterwards to review for inclusion in the Code Indigo Time Code project, so there is a real spontaniety and live feel to it all that makes the whole album wonderfully chilled and compelling. The 15 Before Time&#8221; tracks are interlinked to produce one drifting electronic<a title="space music" href="http://www.admusiconline.com/main/CodeIndigo-Index.php" target="_self"> space music</a> epic and it&#8217;s much, much more than just a rough draft &#8211; here are the original, sometimes quite inspired <a title="electronic music" href="http://www.admusiconline.com">electronic music</a> performances of tracks like &#8220;24am&#8221; and &#8220;Call of the Earth&#8221;, plus beautiful additional pieces that never made the final album simply because of the time constraints and the sheer amount of excellent material composed. And in the bonus &#8220;Time Code Exodus&#8221; track, you&#8217;ll hear further alternate versions and arrangements. This collection shows just how prolific Wright &#38; Fox were during this period and it is a worthy companion to the &#8220;Time Code&#8221; album itself, and most definitely worthy of a special download release.</p>

<p>David Wright remains a popular figure in the <a title="electronic music" href="http://www.admusiconline.com" target="_self">electronic music</a> scene and there has been increased interest in his music since New World Music took on the distribution of his extensive catalogue in 2009. &#8220;Sines of Life (Vol. 1) is David&#8217;s 20th solo CD release in a career that spans more than 20 years and the album has been something of a labour of love, as explained in the informative 16 page booklet that also includes lots of photos and details of additional music to be found on the download only &#8220;Volume 2&#8243; album.</p>
<p>&#8220;Sines of Life &#8211; Volume 1&#8243; contains new studio material alongside imaginative live re-workings of classic David Wright compositions from concerts during 2007 and 2009 featuring guest musicians, and it&#8217;s no understatement to say that it&#8217;s a majestic tour de force of <a title="instrumental music" href="http://www.admusiconline.com/main/DavidWright-index.php" target="_self">instrumental music</a> and <a href="http://www.admusiconline.com/main/ADMusic-news.php" target="_self">new age electronica.</a></p>
<p>From the evocative opening &#8220;September Dawn&#8221; to the truly awesome closing epic &#8220;All Good things&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.&#8221;, the music on offer here covers rhythmic to emotive, atmospheric to melodic and is mature instrumental electronic music with class and style that is nothing short of sensational.</p>
<p>The perennial favorite &#8220;Walking with Ghosts&#8221; is replayed as a brand new arrangement that is simply sublime and features another UK synth luminary Ian Boddy on keyboards and German guitar legend Klaus Hoffmann Hook, who also plays the Memotron.</p>
<p>Another beautiful reworking is &#8220;Beyond Paradise&#8221;, this time featuring Hoffmann-Hoock on electric sitar, while &#8220;Just an Illusion&#8221; and &#8220;State of Bliss&#8221; are again completely new imaginings of the original album tracks that here feature stunning cosmic guitar work from Hoffmann-Hoock.</p>
<p>The remaining songs include the atmospheric piano based title piece, a previously unreleased live track featuring Robert Fox &#38; Nigel Turner-Heffer titled &#8220;3 a.m.&#8221; and a new interpretation of David&#8217;s popular epic &#8220;Cassini&#8221; recorded at his 2007 USA concert.</p>
<p>The production is superb and with a running time of over 78 minutes this fitting anniversary album provides both quality and quantity. If you&#8217;re already familiar with the work of David Wright, then this album really is a &#8220;must have&#8221; because the reworked live tracks are significantly different from the originals to differentiate this set from a traditional &#8220;Greatest Hits&#8221; compilation. If you&#8217;re not and you&#8217;re into good quality, melodic and emotive electronic music, then &#8220;Sines of Life&#8221; has more than enough quality to warrant your investigation and ensure your interest.</p>
<p>An album that&#8217;s destined to run and run and a terrific addition to an already impressive catalogue.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong><a href="http://videodromo.wordpress.com/2009/11/06/diez-finales-antologicos/" target="_blank">No hay finales</a></strong> sin principios, y a petición de diversos lectores (Gonzalo, <a href="http://radagast-elpardo.blogspot.com/2009/11/memeces-videodromicas_06.html" target="_blank">Radagast</a>, etc) aquí da comienzo este espero que curioso TOP TEN rebosante de nostalgia por un tipo de cine que no volveremos a ver. Quiero dejar claro que a veces los realizadores optan por poner los rótulos de crédito en la secuencia inicial, otras no. En algunos casos están realizados y concebidos por los propios directores, y en otras no. Por eso, indicaré quién elabora los títulos cuando sea preciso. Para comenzar esta selección quiero hacerlo de una forma un tanto retórica. Si comenzamos elegiendo diez finales y ahora vamos a hablar de inicios, pues quien mejor que Chistopher Nolan para abrir fuego. Fue este arriesgado director que se atrevió a poner el final de la historia al principio del largometraje. Así pues, vayamos pues hasta el año 2000 cuando se estrenó <strong>&#8220;MEMENTO&#8221;</strong>.  Estamos ante un final y un principio, todo en uno. Mejor forma de empezar esta selección de comienzos de película no he podido encontrar. Ojo, a pasar de que me gusta mucho, este no cuenta. Se trata sólo de una forma de comenzar, allá vamos&#8230;</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">En <strong>el puesto número diez</strong> tenemos&#8230; el inicio de <strong>&#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076759/" target="_blank">LA GUERRA DE LAS GALAXIAS</a>&#8220;</strong>  dirigida en 1977  por <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000184/" target="_blank"><strong>George Lucas</strong></a>. Los títulos de crédito fueron obra de<strong> </strong><a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0674635/" target="_blank"><strong>Dan Perri</strong></a>, creador también de los de &#8220;El exorcista&#8221; o &#8220;Taxi driver&#8221;. Este es uno de esos comienzos que uno tiene grabado a fuego en la memoria. Era un niño que deseaba verla. Había visto por la tele que habían estado en el festival de San Sebastián C3PO, R2D2, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, La princesa Leia. Tengo el recuerdo vago de verlos posando ante las cámaras en la playa de Donosti. Desde ese mismo instante quise verla. Tras mucha turra en casa y diversos intentos, conseguí que me llevaran a verla. Lo recuerdo perfectamente aún, fue en los cines Roxy de la calle fuencarral de Madrid, en sesión de noche, estaba abarrotada la sala y nos tocaron de las últimas filas A pesar de que era canijo y alguna cabeza me tapaba parte de la pantalla me fue absolutamente indiferente. Al oir los maravillosos acordes de Williams, entré en un fascinante mundo del que todavía creo que no he salido.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>INICIO DE STAR WARS: UNA NUEVA ESPERANZA</strong><br />

<p style="text-align:justify;">En <strong>el puesto número nueve</strong> tenemos&#8230; el comienzo de <strong>&#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114369/" target="_blank">SEVEN</a>&#8220;,</strong> dirigida por <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000399/" target="_blank"><strong>David Fincher</strong></a> en 1995, en este caso fue el siempre genial <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0178204/" target="_blank"><strong>Kyle Cooper</strong></a> quien se encargó de los títulos de crédito. En su currículum hasta ese momento tenía &#8220;Breaveheart&#8221; de Gibson y &#8220;Quiz Show: El Dilema<em>&#8220;</em> de Redford. Me parece fascinante la maestría con la que resuelve este inicio, y por eso lo he elegido. La secuencia inicial incluye los títulos de crédito y nos describe perfectamente la mente y el <em>modus operandi</em> de este asesino en serie. Destacar tanto la fotografía de Darius Khondi y la música de Nine Inchs Nails, y la barroca voz de Trevor Horn.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>INICIO DE SE7EN</strong><br />

<p style="text-align:justify;">En <strong>el puesto número ocho</strong> tenemos el inicio de una gran adaptación literaria&#8230; <strong>&#8220;</strong><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094947/" target="_blank"><strong>LAS AMISTADES PELIGROSAS</strong></a><strong>&#8220;</strong> realizada por <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001241/" target="_blank"><strong>Stephen Frears</strong></a> en 1988. Impresionante me parece la labor de Stephen Frears en cómo plantea esta secuencia que engloba los rótulos de crédito. Hace una descripción física y psicológica de los personajes inmejorable. Todo acentuado por la increible suite de George Fenton, que recalca el momento histórico. Maravillosa la actuación de Glenn Close y John Malcovick.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>INICIO DE &#8220;LAS AMISTADES PELIGROSAS&#8221;</strong><br />

<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong> </strong>En <strong>el puesto número siete</strong> venido de la Tierra Media tenemos&#8230;<strong> &#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120737/" target="_blank">EL SEÑOR DE LOS ANILLOS</a>&#8220;</strong> dirigida por <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001392/" target="_blank"><strong>Peter Jackson</strong></a> en el años 2001. Todo un gran comienzo para una obra épica que consta de tres partes. Estamos una vez más ante una magnífica adpatación, y se me ponen aún los pelos de punta con la música de <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006290/" target="_blank"><strong>Howard Shore</strong></a> y la narración en off, es brutal.</p>

Film dirigido por <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000631/" target="_blank"><strong>Ridley Scott</strong></a>, contaba para sus rótulos de crédito con la colaboración de<strong> </strong><a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006331/" target="_blank"><strong>Vangelis</strong></a>, que le componía un score de lujo que te dejaba noqueado en la butaca. Esta es una de esas secuencias que ningún amante del séptimo arte olvida. Esa belleza postindustrial, llena de coloridos neones y llamaradas. Esos encuadres que parecen sacados de una viñeta de cualquier historia del &#8220;Metal Hurlant&#8221; merecen todo un respeto. Eso por no hablar de los increíbles efectos y fotografía obra de los desaparecidos <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0874320/" target="_blank"><strong>Douglas Trumball</strong></a> y<strong> </strong><a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005675/" target="_blank"><strong>Jordan Cronenweth</strong></a>.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>INICIO BLADE RUNNER VERSION 1982</strong><br />

<p style="text-align:justify;">En <strong>el puesto número cinco</strong> tenemos nada más y nada menos que los&#8230;<strong>&#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105236/" target="_blank">RESERVOIR DOGS</a>&#8220; </strong>dirigidos en 1992 por <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000233/" target="_blank"><strong>Quentin Tarantino</strong></a>,<em> le</em> <em>enfant terrible</em> de la industria de Hollywood. Cinéfago, cinéfilo, inclasificable, esos pueden ser algunos de los adjetivos con los que podemos calificar a este director norteamericano. De dialogos contundentes y salvajes tanto por duración como por temática. En el inicio de su ópera prima tenemos todas las claves de lo que veríamos con el paso del tiempo a lo largo de sus ocho películas como director. Brillante y delirante comienzo donde los haya.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>INICIO DE RESERVOIR DOGS</strong><br />

<p>En <strong>el puesto número cuatro</strong>&#8230; <strong>&#8220;</strong><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0125659/" target="_blank"><strong>ABRE LOS OJOS</strong></a><strong>&#8221; </strong>dirigida por <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0024622/" target="_blank">Alejandro Amenabar</a> en 1997. El creador de los rótulos de crédito del film fue <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0764007/" target="_blank"><strong>Carlos J. Santos</strong></a>, pero estos no llegan a estar incluidos en la secuencia inicial van tras la segunda secuencia. Su trabajo es de sobra conocido, ha hecho también los de &#8220;Acción mutante&#8221; de Alex de la Iglesia, &#8220;Familia&#8221; o &#8220;Torrente, el brazo tonto de la ley&#8221;. Creo que este es uno de los inicios más inquietantes del cine español. Considero que esta es su mejor película, y que no creo que vuelva  a realizar nada Amenabar a la altura de esta. Maravilloso el plano con la Gran Vía vacía.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">En <strong>el puesto número tres</strong> tenemos<strong>&#8230; &#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067023/" target="_blank">EL DIABLO SOBRE RUEDAS</a></strong>&#8221; realizada en 1971 por <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000229/" target="_blank">Steven Spielberg</a>. A pesar de ser un telefilm consiguió traspasar las fronteras de lo catódico y lo cinematográfico y consigió venderse si mal no creo en el festival de Cannes, y en Europa se distribuyó en cines con este título. Os recuerdo que el original es &#8220;DUEL&#8221;, que podríamos traducir como &#8220;Duelo&#8221; y está basado en un relato corto de <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0558577/" target="_blank">Richard Matheson</a>, otro viejo conocido de la videoarena.<strong> </strong></p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Y esta lista no puede acabar sin la gran labor de dos grandes genios. En primer lugar, aquí tenéis a un viejo amigo del blog, hablo de mi tocayo <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000033/" target="_blank"><strong>Alfred Hitchcock</strong></a>, así que <strong>en el puesto número dos</strong> tenemos&#8230;<strong>&#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0040746/" target="_blank">LA SOGA</a>&#8220;</strong> realizada en 1948. En esta secuencia inicial plantea las múltiples lecturas que posee este largometraje. Por la forma en que está rodada, por la actitud de los personajes, por miles de cosas, pero es algo más que un asesinato, es el final de un trio sexual. Soberbio. Cómo se enciende el cigarro, aprece que acaba de echar el polvo de su vida como dice el detective Nick Curran en &#8220;Instinto básico&#8221;. Atentos y no dejar que se os escape ningún detalle. Y sobre todo los remordimientos que quedan después. Soberbio el maestro una vez más.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>INICIO DE &#8220;LA SOGA&#8221;</strong><br />

<p style="text-align:justify;">Y para finalizar en <strong>el puesto número uno</strong> tenemos al otro gran maestro, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000040/" target="_blank"><strong>Stanley Kubrick</strong></a> y su&#8230; <strong>&#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066921/" target="_blank">LA NARANJA MECÁNICA</a>&#8220;</strong> realizada en 1971. Se dice, se comenta, que los rótulos de crédito iniciales fueron elaborados por otro de los grandes, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0274998/" target="_blank"><strong>Pablo Ferro</strong></a>, pero no encontréis acreditado este trabajo por ningún lado, y eso es raro en Kubrick, así que le pasaría como a Alex North en &#8220;2001&#8243;.  En esta secuencia inicial comprenderéis la función y el sentido de un travelling. Es maravillosa la forma en la que describe el entorno y a los personajes. Su simplicidad es sólo igualable a su efectividad. Arropándolo con todo el mimo del mundo estan los estupendos acordes de <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0137793/" target="_blank"><strong>Wendy Carlos</strong></a>. Además, en la pasada edición de Sitges Malcom McDowell recogió el premio por su labor en este film. Os puedo decir hasta cuando la vi por primera vez, porque luego le siguieron unas cuantas. Fue con dieciseís años en el extinto cine Torre de Madrid en la sala dos en la sesión de siete de la tarde. Desde entonces la tengo taladrada esta escena en mi cabeza. Mi madre no quería que la viera, ella consideraba que era ultraviolenta. Lo curioso es que con el paso del tiempo ya no lo parece tanto. Pero a pesar de todo, es impresionante.</p>

<p>One of the greatest pieces of music written by <strong><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vangelis" target="_blank">Vangelis</a></strong>, for one of the best science fiction films. The <em>Blade Runner</em> soundtrack by <strong>Vangelis</strong> is a dark melodic combination of classic composition and futuristic synthesizers which mirrors the film-noir retro-future envisioned by <strong>Ridley Scott</strong>. Vangelis, fresh from his Academy Award winning score for <strong><em>Chariots of Fire</em></strong>, composed and performed the music on his synthesizers. He also made use of various chimes and the vocals of collaborator Demis Roussos. Despite being well received by fans, the release of the official soundtrack recording was delayed for over a decade. There are two official releases of the music from <em>Blade Runner</em>. In light of the lack of a release of an album, the New American Orchestra recorded an orchestral adaptation in 1982 which bore little resemblance to the original. Some of the film tracks would in 1989 surface on the compilation <em>Vangelis: Themes</em>, but not until the 1992 release of the Director&#8217;s Cut version would a substantial amount of the film&#8217;s score see commercial release.</p>
<p><strong>The movie</strong></p>
<p><em><strong>Blade Runner</strong></em> is a 1982 American science fiction film, directed by <strong><a title="Ridley Scott" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ridley_Scott">Ridley Scott</a></strong> and starring <strong><a title="Harrison Ford" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harrison_Ford">Harrison Ford</a></strong>, Rutger Hauer, and Sean Young. The screenplay, written by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, is based on the novel <em><strong>Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep</strong>?</em> by Philip K. Dick. The film depicts a dystopian Los Angeles in November 2019 in which genetically manufactured beings called replicants — visually indistinguishable from adult humans — are used for dangerous or menial work on Earth&#8217;s &#8220;off-world colonies&#8221;. Following a replicant uprising, replicants become illegal on Earth and specialist police called &#8220;blade runners&#8221; are trained to hunt down and &#8220;retire&#8221; escaped replicants on Earth. The plot focuses on a brutal and cunning group of recently-escaped replicants hiding in Los Angeles and the semi-retired blade runner, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who reluctantly agrees to take on one more assignment.</p>

<p>Terwijl de vele pogingen om elektronica te mixen met rock ons decennia aan tenenkrommende muziek hebben opgeleverd, is de mix van postrock en elektronica zeer vruchtbaar gebleken. De nieuwste aanwinst in dat spannende grensgebied is Pivot. Hun opwindende, dynamische debuutplaat &#8216;O Soundtrack My Heart&#8217; verscheen vorig jaar op het Warp-label, maar is eigenlijk de tweede Pivot-plaat. De allereerste plaat, &#8216;Make Me Love You&#8217;, wordt door de huidige groepsleden echter beschouwd als het product van een geheel andere band, die nu ter ziele is. Nadat de kernleden van de band, de bekrulde Australische broers Richard en Laurence Pike, alle andere leden van het oude Pivot hadden ontslagen, bliezen ze Pivot immers nieuw leven in met hulp van Dave Miller, een in Engeland wonende elektronicaknutselaar. Met hem ontwikkelden ze de flarden elektronica die het oude geluid al bevatte verder uit en voegden ze er nog een extra element aan toe: Pivot verwelkomde de synthesizer.<br />
Bevatte &#8216;Make Me Love You&#8217; nog vrij traditionele postrock, met door elkaar geweven gitaar- en keyboardpartijen en gegoochel met dynamiek en climaxen – het recept is inmiddels overbekend –, dan is het geluid van het nieuwe Pivot dus vooral een stuk ‘proggier’. Een naar woord, maar uiterst geschikt om de ommezwaai die de groep heeft gemaakt, aan te duiden. Tegenwoordig houdt de band er namelijk een esthetica op na die een vrijwel evenredige mix is van geluiden die het uitstekend doen bij de indie-incrowd – nerveuzige, instrumentale rock à la Battles, Do Make Say Think en This Is Your Captain Speaking – en geluiden waar diezelfde incrowd nog niet dood bij in de buurt gevonden wil worden: de synthesizerpracht van Vangelis en Jean Michel Jarre. Beide grootheden uit de jaren 1970 prijken boven aan het lijstje van invloeden op de MySpace van Pivot en hun geluid is duidelijk herkenbaar aanwezig in de composities van het drietal: over de hoekige ritmes en de nerveuze gitaarmelodieën worden dikke, wollige synthesizertapijten gelegd. En net als je je helemaal Harrison Ford waant in een grimmige, bloederige scène van Blade Runner, wordt er weer een scherp post-punkritme ingezet. Voor dit schizofrene en tamelijk controversiële geluid bedacht een recensent al de passende beschrijving ‘Van Halen meets Vangelis’. We zochten de bandleden op en deden een ijdele poging ze te doorgronden.</p>
<h2>Bombast</h2>
<p><b>Laten we beginnen bij de belangrijkste kwestie: waarom in vredesnaam Vangelis?</b><br />
Richard Pike (gitaar, toetsen): “O, je houdt niet van Vangelis? Nou, wij ook weer niet zo veel hoor. We vinden vooral de ‘Blade Runner’-soundtrack erg goed. We hebben niet eens zoveel andere platen van hem.”<br />
Laurence Pike (drums): “Jawel, tegenwoordig wel. We zijn ze nu aan het sparen.”<br />
Dave Miller (laptop, toetsen): “Zo’n lijstje invloeden is altijd triviaal. We hebben net zoveel naar Kraftwerk geluisterd.”<br />
Laurence Pike: “Ja, maar Vangelis heeft natuurlijk heel mooie platen gemaakt met heel sterk thematisch materiaal, rijk aan melodie en bombast. En op het gebied van synthesizergeluiden is hij absoluut een voorbeeld. Maar we zijn vooral gefascineerd door de periode die hij vertegenwoordigt. Hij was namelijk ontzettend populair in zijn tijd en scoorde grote hits, met puur op synthesizer gebaseerde, instrumentale en soundtrack-achtige muziek. Dat is tegenwoordig ondenkbaar; het is voor ons een mysterie hoe dat destijds kon. Dat vinden we fascinerend. Niet dat het ons per se daarom te doen is, om het scoren van hits, maar dat er een tijd is geweest waarin zo veel mensen daar aandacht en interesse voor hadden, dat is prachtig.”<br />
Richard Pike: “En voor Jean Michel Jarre geldt natuurlijk hetzelfde. Een meester in de hoogtijdagen van de instrumentale synthesizermuziek en een soort pop/rock die nu gewoon niet meer bestaat. Dat trekt ons erg aan.”<br />
Laurence Pike: “En dat ze niet cool zijn, ach. De coolste muzikanten zijn zij die niet nadenken over hun muziek, maar haar gewoon maken.”</p>
<p><b>Hoe hebben jullie elkaar gevonden? Ik begreep dat Richard en Laurence al eerder samen in een band zaten onder de naam Pivot en daar een debuutalbum mee opnamen, waarna die band is geëvolueerd in het huidige Pivot…</b><br />
Laurence Pike: “Dat klopt. De band bestaat al behoorlijk lang en is begonnen als een soort jamband. We waren vooral erg jong en gebruikten Pivot als vehikel om te experimenteren.”<br />
Richard Pike: “We zetten radio’s tegen over elkaar op verschillende frequenties en zetten er gitaarpedalen tussen, dat soort dingen.”<br />
Laurence Pike: “En toen kwam het punt dat de ene helft van de band een kant op wilde en de andere helft een andere kant. En wij kwamen vervolgens Dave tegen en het was heel duidelijk dat wij met z’n drieën ergens heen wilden waar de rest van de band niet naartoe wilde.”<br />
Dave Miller: “Het is als je relatie met je vriendinnetje op de middelbare school: er is natuurlijk een kans dat je bij elkaar blijft voor de rest van je leven, maar een grotere kans dat je allebei bij iemand anders eindigt.”<br />
Laurence Pike: “We hadden met z&#8217;n drieën samen een vrij duidelijk idee over waar we heen wilden. We spraken er ook over, maar dan niet zozeer over de muzikaal-technische kant van ons geluid, maar vooral over de energie die we wilden uitstralen en de gevoelens die erin moesten zitten. Niet dat we al te ‘new age’ over willen komen, maar dat was zo’n beetje de insteek. We wilden vooral iets doen dat anders was. Iets dat gevaarlijk voelde.”</p>
<h2>Clicks</h2>
<p><b>Hoe verliep het vormgeven van dat ‘gevaarlijke’ geluid vervolgens?</b><br />
Richard Pike: “Nu ja, het format was nieuw voor ons allemaal, dus het was wennen. Dave had nog nooit in een band gespeeld, hij was alleen maar gewend om achter zijn laptop te zitten. En wij hadden nog nooit met geprogrammeerde muziek gewerkt. We hadden bijvoorbeeld ineens geen bassist meer, de bas kwam uit Daves computer.”<br />
Dave Miller: “En ik woonde in Londen, terwijl Laurence en Richard in Australië woonden. Dus het verliep allemaal via internet; we wisselden bestanden uit per e-mail.”<br />
Richard Pike: “Meestal ging het zo dat Dave beats en loops maakte en die naar ons stuurde. Dan speelden wij daar drums en gitaar en keyboards overheen en stuurden dat weer terug naar Dave, die er vervolgens weer mee aan de slag ging.”<br />
Laurence Pike: “We vonden het zelf niet zo’n vreemde manier van werken, maar een heleboel mensen snappen er echt niks van. Die hebben nog steeds het traditionele idee van een band die bij elkaar in een kamer nummers zit te schrijven.”<br />
Dave Miller: “Ik kreeg laatst zelfs een e-mail van een collega-muzikant die vroeg hoe we dat live nou doen met de drums. We combineren immers beats uit mijn laptop met live-drums van Laurence. ‘Hoe houden jullie het ritme strak?’, wilde hij weten. ‘Gebruikt hij clicks?’ Nee, zei ik. We repeteren. Hij kent de nummers. Hij luistert.”<br />
Laurence Pike: “De meeste rockdrummers kunnen niet luisteren, dat is helaas zo.”<br />
Dave Miller: “Zelf speelde hij in een elektronische band die live verborgen tussen de coulissen een drummer lieten meespelen. Een slechte.”<br />
Laurence Pike: “Ik heb echt een hekel aan drummers die spelen met een koptelefoon op met clicks. Ik ben blij dat wij dat nooit gedaan hebben.”<br />
Richard Pike: “Ach kom nou, dat hebben we wel gedaan. Toen we zeventien waren, of zo. Dat was pure hel, maar dat is wel hoe je geleerd hebt om te drummen zoals je doet. Zo heb je absolute ritmes geleerd. Computerritmes. Wat iets heel anders is dan menselijke, subjectieve ritmes, die je ‘voelt’.”</p>
<p><b>Is jullie geluid nog veranderd nu jullie elkaar wel vaak zien en gewoon met z’n drieën op een podium of in een oefenhok kunnen spelen?</b><br />
Richard Pike: “Jazeker. Ons geluid heeft vooral veel meer energie. En de fraseringen zijn beter. Energieker, krachtiger. Laatst hoorde ik onze plaat weer eens en er zaten een hoop stukken op waarvan ik het idee had dat we ze nu veel energieker zouden spelen. Ik vond hem eigenlijk vrij soft.”<br />
Dave Miller: “We hebben al wat nieuwe dingen geschreven, samen in dezelfde ruimte. En we neigen ernaar om de nieuwe dingen zo te schrijven zoals we nu ook de oude dingen spelen. De nieuwe nummers zijn erg live, precies zo geschreven zoals we ze met z’n drieën op een podium kunnen spelen.”</p>
<h2>Walkietalkies</h2>
<p><b>‘O soundtrack my heart’ riep bij mij sterke associaties op met oude, jaren 1970 science-fiction; die inmiddels volkomen gedateerde beelden van de toekomst met knullige ruimteschepen en gigantische walkietalkies.</b><br />
Laurence Pike: “Ja, dat is precies waar we van houden.”<br />
Richard Pike: “Ja, niet zozeer visueel, het is niet zo dat we allemaal visioenen hebben van buitenaardse werelden en ruimteschepen, maar we houden erg van die retrogeluiden die daarbij horen. Die oude klanken, vermengd met digitale, samensmeltend in een cataclysmische, orgastische chaos!”<br />
Laurence Pike: “Er is zo’n periode in de jaren 1970, begin jaren 1980 geweest in de muziek en film waarin men zo’n conceptie van de toekomst had vol van oneindige mogelijkheden. Alles kon. En de films en muziek die dat uitstralen, hebben een vreemd soort tijdloosheid over zich heen.”<br />
Richard Pike: “Dat optimisme is tegenwoordig verdwenen. Inmiddels weten we te veel.”<br />
Laurence Pike: “Maar die visie van de toekomst van toen is ergens nog steeds een droom die leeft.”</p>
<p><b>Mochten jullie het aanbod krijgen om op een festival naar keuze te spelen, wat zou het dan zijn: een indierockfestival, een elektronicafestival of een Star Trek-conventie?</b><br />
Richard Pike: “Een indierockfestival, zonder meer; dat zou immers het enige zijn waar ook nog vrouwen op afkomen.”<br />
Laurence Pike: “We zijn absoluut een rockband, meer dan iets anders. We zijn zeker geen dance-act, bijvoorbeeld.”<br />
Richard Pike: “Als het op live spelen aankomt is live rocken gewoon het leukst om te doen. Ik zie zelf ook liever een goede rockband dan een avond vol kereltjes die op laptops zitten te prutsen.”<br />
Dave Miller: “Bestaan dat soort avonden eigenlijk nog wel?”<br />
Laurence Pike: “Het mooist zou misschien zijn om te spelen op een festival dat precies tussen die drie in zit.”</p>
<p>Het concert dat de heren na afloop gaven vond helaas niet plaats op een dergelijk festival, maar in het &#8216;ouderwetse&#8217; Utrechtse Tivoli. Dat weerhield hen er niet van hun retro-futuristische geluid met veel bravoure en experimenteerdrang over het publiek uit te storten en hen beneveld en licht in het hoofd terug de kou in te sturen, met een Talking Heads-cover als uitsmijter. De tijdloze, eeuwige behoefte aan zaligmakende trips was weer bevredigd.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-689" title="david and neil 1" src="http://admusic.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/david-and-neil-1.jpg?w=300" alt="david and neil 1" width="300" height="184" />Well, it came around pretty quickly after a long and busy year for Dave Massey and me, culminating in a several last minute panics when new Callisto on stage member Neil Fellowes was poorly and forced to miss the planned final rehearsals prior to the gig. Then on the day, during set up, I somehow managed to damage cruciate knee ligaments and was forced to play the entire gig seated and in considerable pain. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the event and not playing was never an option. Neil enjoyed himself too on his first Callisto outing and the new look live line-up means there is a good chance of future Callisto performances.</p>
<p>This years Hampshire Jam was coordinated by Ian Boddy (Din) and Dave Law (SMD), and was a thoroughly professional and highly enjoyable event for all concerned if the initial reaction is anything to go by &#8211; one big <a title="electronic music" href="http://www.admusiconline.com" target="_self">electronic music</a> party with a high quality line up producing varied high quality electronic music from traditional Berlin school to avante garde style <a title="electronica" href="http://www.admusiconline.com" target="_self">electronica</a>. All those concerned with its planning and organization on the day deserve full praise for a job well done.</p>
<p>I didn&#8217;t watch any of the other acts, no disrespect to them, but in my experience artists try to keep their head clear for their own performance. However, sitting chatting to other musicians in the dressing room during the day, we could hear the on stage acts quite clearly and it all sounded really great. It was also nice to chat to fans as well before our set, but sorry I wasn&#8217;t able to socialize afterward due to the knee problem.</p>
<p>Our set for Hampshire Jam was based on music from the long overdue album NYX, and we decided to use several laptops to trigger sequences from Moog, ARP2600, Jupitor 6, Predator and Albino. Rhythms were from Stylus RMX plus some live toms via Alesis DM5 and then additional laptops ran softsynths that were being used for live playing of pads and leads, ie Omnispheres, Albino, ARP, Moog and Minimoog. Various controllers, Roland JP8000, Karma and MS20 completed the physical keyboards used.</p>
<p>We played extended versions of two tracks; &#8220;The lighter Side of Gravity&#8221; and &#8220;The Darkness of Night&#8221; and generally we were pleased with the performance. There are often some technical problems, (concerts wouldn&#8217;t be the same without &#8216;em), but mix levels aside, a few bum notes and a slightly &#8216;off &#8216;middle section that needs editing before release, the performance was okay and we will be releasing the concert performance through musiczeit, hopefully before Christmas. We&#8217;re working hard to finish the studio album &#8220;Nyx&#8221; for Christmas release, so hopefully the live Hampshire Jam performance will be a taster of what is to come and a good companion to Nyx! I am familiar with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vangelis">Ευάγγελος Οδυσσέας Παπαθανασίου</a> but that&#8217;s about it.</p>

Gli estremi mi accoglievano, durante la lettura, vivendo l&#8217;uno con l&#8217;altro e addirittura nell&#8217;altro. Era come avere occhi molto grandi e una curva all&#8217;altezza del ricordo, mentre delinea l&#8217;orizzonte del cuore e lo innarca nella mente, la barca dei segni, riuscendo ad emergere.</p>

<p>Il pellegrino stringe il suo racconto:</p>

<p><strong>Il favo</strong></p>
<p>A tavola gira vino dolce. Me ne danno a bere e ribere. Si mangia carne arrostita e si ride. Voci di donne e di ragazzi si mescolano e disegnano facce ai vetri aperti e nell’aria che brilla, al settembre pieno di sole. Mi alzo col sorriso tatuato che non mi vuole riposare e giro con gli occhi e con la stanza, cammino verso l’ombra della siesta guadando un lab-lap tra spruzzi di grida. Salgo la scala nella foschia del sudore, scende attraversandomi un profumo di rose. Sbando nella camera dei miei (dove saranno?), entro nel silenzio chiuso, segreto, che viene colto da un brivido, mi lascio cadere nella grande nuvola bianca. Odora di bucato e di sonni e sogni e amplessi lavati. Dormi dormi.</p>
<p>Non ho più tredici anni, ne ho diciotto come Angiolina, la porterò via a Gusto quando lei verrà a sbaciucchiarmi come un eterno bambino, le farò sentire come ferve la mia pelle su tutto il corpo, l’abbraccerò al collo e ai fianchi e cadremo insieme frugandoci e ridendo. Dimenticherà gli sguardi di lui e i fianchi che si toccano quando camminano vicini. Farà per me quel gesto di spostare all’indietro i lunghi boccoli biondi col capo filato dalla mano, seduta sulla panca in giardino abbandonerà le braccia sulla gonna affondata tra le ginocchia appoggiandosi indietro al ruvido vecchio melo per liberare lo sguardo tra i rami e l’azzurro.</p>
<p>Dormire di giorno è morire due volte. Mi risveglio che ho di nuovo tredici anni. Il pomeriggio ha spento una luce, un cerchio d’ombra mi stringe le tempie, sento friggere l’aria come per minuscole ustioni, ronzano scuri garbugli.</p>
<p>Ancora disteso mi rivolto sull’orlo del letto con la testa che sporge: da una fessura dell’assito germogliano voli frequenti, spicciano fuori api, soffiate d’api.</p>
<p>In piedi nella stanza alveare giro su me stesso come smarrito in mezzo a un frutteto in piena fioritura. Corro a dare la notizia.</p>
<p>Adesso intorno all’alcova un andirivieni di voci allegre e stonate, di curiosi e burloni che si parano agitando le braccia, si lascia dietro un’aria di sgombero. Dal trambusto emerge una certezza: si dovrà ricorrere al cugino Felice, che se gli rivolgi una parola la ripete canticchiando senza guardarti in faccia e, navigando nel mondo dei suoi gesti misurati ed esatti, conclude nel plauso ogni intervento idraulico, meccanico, elettrico o da esperto contadino apicoltore, com’è il caso. Qualcuno già cavalca una bicicletta a chiamarlo.</p>
<p>Scendo allo strato terreno della famiglia dispersa, tra tavoli mezzo sparecchiati, bucce e bicchieri con impronte di labbra.</p>
<p>Si gironzola. Angiolina sta assorta là in alto sul mio male nascosto, la bocca socchiusa come per un bacio, abbandonata al suo sogno.</p>
<p>Felice, padrone del tempo, compare con la sua orchestra sul palco ancora illuminato del tramonto . Lo precedono in camera, lo seguono. Largo, largo. S’inginocchia in mezzo al turbinìo, schioda un’asse e la rivolta: ecco la bestia, semiaddormentata, semidesta, adagiata fra una trave e l’altra nel suo morbo che si rapprende e pullula. Accanto il cugino si va ricoprendo di pustole alate, si mimetizza con l’animale, come uno sciamano ne assume la voce, ondeggia e incanta, nel mentre ha lasciato in disparte un’arnia vuota, una bella casetta d’illusioni. Immerge adagio le mani nel brulicante contagio, trasfigurato in una sagoma arcaica che attinge l’esca magica del fuoco, ne estrae la grande generatrice, la regina, il suo addome morboso e lo trasferisce nella nuova dimora. Abbandonate il campo, profani.</p>
<p>Da basso ci spartiamo i resti del giorno, nel chiarore cieco, non c’è quasi più nulla di cui ubriacarsi.</p>
<p>Qualcuno vuole sapere come mai, come mai è potuto accadere. Felice cala lì una spiegazione, mordendo il grappolo d’uva strappato alla pergola: una trave lasciata a filo di muro, rosicchiata dal tempo e dall’umidità diventa una porta segreta per il solaio. Risale solitario e ricompare con la sua nuova arnia chiusa, decorato da qualche pecchia ritardataria: potete dare l’assalto al favo!</p>
<p>E infatti corriamo a staccare pezzi di cera come da una pagnotta fresca, alzando le braccia per sottrarre la preda agli opportunisti, impiastricciandoci del miele, che cola fino ai gomiti, la faccia, i vestiti di una giornata dispersa. Va giù nella gola, nelle sacche della notte dove, ormai orbi, danziamo con le nostre ombre.</p>
